May 28 2025The Royals released Renfroe on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went unclaimed off waivers after being DFA'd by Kansas City on Friday, and he'll now be pushed out of the organization. The 33-year-old outfielder is currently having the worst season of his career, slashing .182/.241/.242 across 108 plate appearances, and he's unlikely to attract more than a minor-league deal at this point.
May 23 2025The Royals designated Renfroe for assignment Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe opened the season with a regular role in Kansas City's outfield, but he started just eight of 20 games in May and has now been removed from the big-league roster. The 33-year-old struggled to a .182/.241/.242 slash line in 108 plate appearances after fading to a .689 OPS in 120 contests last year. Given that production, plus what remains of his $7.57 million salary for 2025, Renfroe is a safe bet to pass through waivers unclaimed.
May 2 2025Renfroe is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will come off the bench for the fourth time in the last five games and appears to be falling into a reserve role for the Royals. Drew Waters is making the start in right field and batting seventh against starter Dean Kremer. Renfroe is off to a miserable start at the plate this season, slashing .167/.243/.197 with no home runs, four RBI, and a 7:16 BB:K across 74 plate appearances.
May 1 2025Renfroe is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has now been out of the lineup three times across the Royals' last four games. Mark Canha is covering right field and batting seventh in the series finale.
Apr 19 2025Renfroe isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is slashing just .130/.231/.152 on the season and has seen his playing time diminish recently as a result. He'll step aside again Saturday so Maikel Garcia can start in right field while Michael Massey covers second base, putting Salvador Perez at DH and Freddy Fermin behind the plate.
Apr 17 2025Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has now started only three of the last nine games against right-handed pitching and hasn't started consecutive contests over that span. Cavan Biggio will patrol right field and hit seventh for Kansas City.
Apr 16 2025Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is out of the lineup against a right-hander for the third time in four games after an 0-for-3 performance in Tuesday's 4-2 loss brought his season-long batting line down to .119/.213/.143 over 47 plate appearances. While Renfroe continues to languish, the Royals will likely continue to give opportunities to Cavan Biggio and Drew Waters in right field as they look to see whether either player can offer more of a boost to the offense.
Apr 14 2025Renfroe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe cracked the starting nine in eight of the Royals' first 10 contests, but his hold on a near-everyday role could be slipping. He hasn't started consecutive games since April 6 and 7 while he's gotten off to a miserable start to the season, as he's slashing just .128/.209/.154 with a 27.9 percent strikeout rate over 43 plate appearances. Cavan Biggio will replace Renfroe in right field Monday.
Apr 12 2025Renfroe isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has gotten off to a poor start this season, slashing just .143/.231/.171 across 39 plate appearances through 11 games. He'll get another day off to regroup Saturday, and his absence will open up a spot in the lineup for Cavan Biggio to start at first base while batting sixth.
Apr 10 2025Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's a routine day off for Renfroe, who is sporting a lowly .416 OPS across his first 10 games of the season. The Royals are going with Cavan Biggio in right field and in the fifth spot in the lineup for Thursday's series finale.
Apr 8 2025Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started eight of Kansas City's first 10 games of the season but has gone 5-for-29 with three walks, a double and nine strikeouts in 32 plate appearances. MJ Melendez will shift to right field while Mark Canha receives a start in left.
Apr 4 2025Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old is off to a slow start and will begin Friday's series opener on the bench, as Cavan Biggio is in the lineup at designated hitter with MJ Melendez in right field. Renfroe is 2-for-18 at the plate with one double, three RBI, three walks and six strikeouts through five games this season.
Mar 29 2025Renfroe is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Opening Day and will now step out of the lineup Saturday. His absence will open up a spot in the lineup for Cavan Biggio to bat eighth while covering first base.
Mar 13 2025Renfroe is hitting just .188 (3-for-16) with a home run this spring, but he says a return to full health has been his priority after a back injury, a broken left toe and right hamstring strain slowed him last season, MLB.com reports. "It was a big issue," Renfroe said. "Toward the middle part of the season, some things popped up. And that led to lower back, hamstring. It's all connected. But it feels good now. I was hoping that when I started up this offseason that I wouldn't feel it, and I didn't, which was great." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe had a disappointing 2024 season by hitting just .229 with 15 home runs and a .689 OPS over 120 regular-season games. His performance this spring isn't inspiring confidence that he'll have a bounceback season, but he appears set for an everyday role in right field.
Oct 31 2024Renfroe exercised his player option worth $7.6 million for the 2025 season, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe began the season as the starting right fielder for the Royals, though his role shrunk after the acquisition of Tommy Pham. His primary shortcoming was a lack of power, as he posted a career-low .163 ISO across 424 plate appearances. Pham is entering free agency, which could give Renfroe a shot to start again entering 2025.
Oct 1 2024Renfroe is not in the lineup for Tuesday's Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started eight of the final 12 games of the regular season in right field (five against lefties, three versus righties). However, with Vinnie Pasquantino back in action and limited to designated-hitter duties, the Royals are going with Tommy Pham in right field for Game 1 versus righty Corbin Burnes.
Sep 29 2024Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has homered in two of his last three games, giving him 15 long balls on the year. It's his lowest power output in any season in which he's played at least 100 games. The veteran outfielder has added 52 RBI, 44 runs scored, one stolen base, 18 doubles and a .229/.297/.392 slash line over 120 contests. He enters the postseason in a timeshare with Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier for playing time in right field.
Sep 26 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe tied the game at 1-1 with his second-inning blast. The veteran outfielder has gone 8-for-44 (.182) with two homers and four RBI over 14 games since he returned from a hamstring injury. He's now at a .230/.300/.389 slash line with 14 homers, 51 RBI, 43 runs scored, one stolen base and 18 doubles through 118 contests. With Tommy Pham and Adam Frazier also in the mix for playing time in right field, Renfroe is likely to remain in a part-time role to close out the regular season.
Sep 21 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will sit for a second straight contest, with Adam Frazier filling right field Saturday. Renfroe has one hit in his last 16 at-bats and is slashing .232/.303/.387 on the year.
Sep 20 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the previous three games but will sit Friday amid a 1-for-16 slump. Adam Frazier will shift to right field while Maikel Garcia starts at the hot corner.
Sep 15 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will hit the bench for the third time in four matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Jared Jones). The 32-year-old is slashing a modest .237/.308/.397 over 393 plate appearances on the season and looks like he could have to settle for a part-time role down the stretch.
Sep 14 2024Renfroe isn't in Kansas City's lineup Saturday versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 in Friday's victory, snapping a four-game hitting streak that began when he returned from the injured list. While Renfroe sits, Adam Frazier will patrol right field while Tommy Pham serves as the DH.
Sep 11 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will head to the bench for the series finale in New York after he had picked up starts at either designated hitter or in right field in each of the past three contests while going 3-for-12 with a solo home run. Tommy Pham will cover right field Wednesday, while Adam Frazier gets a turn as the Royals' DH.
Sep 10 2024Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-4 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has gone 4-for-12 with three RBI over three games since he returned from a hamstring strain he suffered in late August. The outfielder has made all three of his starts in right field since his return, pushing Tommy Pham to left field or designated hitter more regularly. For the year, Renfroe is at a .240/.313/.405 slash line with 13 homers, 50 RBI, 42 runs scored and a stolen base across 107 contests.
Sep 5 2024The Royals activated Renfroe (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has been shelved since late August with a right hamstring strain but got through a rehab game this week with no issues. It's unclear how the Royals will make all the pieces fit, as they acquired Tommy Pham, Yuli Gurriel and Robbie Grossman since Renfroe was last active. He will likely start against most lefties, but it's possible he could ride the pine against some righties.
Sep 4 2024Renfroe (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went through a full workout Tuesday and will now test himself in a game setting. The 32-year-old could require just one rehab contest, as he is poised to rejoin the Royals' active roster this weekend if all goes well. Renfroe has been shelved since late August with a right hamstring strain.
Sep 3 2024Renfroe (hamstring) hit on the field and ran the bases at Kauffman Stadium on Monday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Royals have yet to decide whether Renfroe will go out on a rehab assignment, but regardless, he is tracking toward a return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend, just a few days after he's first eligible for activation. Renfroe has seen virtually all of his playing time this season in right field, but with Tommy Pham recently being added to the roster and with Vinnie Pasquantino (thumb) out for the season, the Royals could consider using Renfroe some at first base, where he has a bit of experience.
Aug 25 2024The Royals placed Renfroe on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right hamstring strain, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said that Renfroe had been dealing with general soreness of late, but he tweaked his hamstring during Saturday's 11-2 loss to the Phillies. Quatraro characterized Renfroe's injury as a low-grade strain, though that doesn't necessarily guarantee that the veteran outfielder will be ready to go when he's first eligible to return from the IL on Sept. 4. The Royals recalled outfielder Tyler Gentry from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.
Aug 24 2024Renfroe went 1-for-2 with two walks, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-4 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His third-inning shot off Taijuan Walker capped a five-run frame for Kansas City. Renfroe snapped a 16-game homerless drought in the process, but he's been heating up of late, starting five of the last six games and going 8-for-19 (.421) with a 3:3 BB:K. Renfroe's .713 OPS on the season is identical to his 2023 performance, but with just 12 homers in 103 contests, he has some work to do if he's going to reach the 20-homer mark for the fourth straight year and the seventh time in his career.
Aug 19 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe broke out of his 0-for-24 slump during Kansas City's three-game set against Cincinnati, going 3-for-9 with a double and a run scored across two starts. However, the 32-year-old will retreat to the bench Monday as Adam Frazier fills right field.
Aug 16 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get the night off to clear his head after going 0-for-24 in his last six games. Adam Frazier will bat seventh and fill right field.
Aug 13 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is hitless in his last 20 at-bats while striking out eight times during that stretch, and he'll take a seat Tuesday. In his place, Adam Frazier will bat seventh and play right field.
Aug 10 2024Renfroe isn't in the Royals' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has had a tough time at the plate as of late, going 0-for-16 with six strikeouts over his last four games. He'll get a day to regroup while Garrett Hampson starts in right field and bats eighth.
Jul 29 2024Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 8-5 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is batting .300 (9-for-30) with three homers and 11 RBI over 10 games since the All-Star break. He also has a 6:6 BB:K in that span. The outfielder has had a difficult first year in Kansas City, but it looks like he's turning things around. Overall, Renfroe has a .234/.314/.415 slash line, 11 homers, 41 RBI, 33 runs scored, 15 doubles and one stolen base through 86 contests.
Jul 27 2024Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a home run and three total RBI In a loss to the Cubs on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe swatted a solo homer in the second inning and added a two-run single in the sixth. He finished with his first multi-hit game since July 14 and just his second three-hit performance of the campaign. Renfroe has never hit fewer than 20 long balls among his six full big-league campaigns, but he has some work to do if he's going to extend that streak since he's at only 10 home runs this season.
Jul 24 2024Renfroe is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the first two games of the series, slugging a home run Monday and drawing a couple walks Tuesday. He'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench while Drew Waters draws a start in right field.
Jul 22 2024Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-4 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe tacked on a run in the fifth inning when he took Arizona reliever Miguel Castro deep. This was Renfroe's first homer since June 28, though he hit a strong .283 over the 16 games between long balls. The outfielder is at a .227/.305/.397 slash line with nine homers, 35 RBI, 31 runs scored, one stolen base and 15 doubles through 80 contests overall, though he's been trending in the right direction in July.
Jul 7 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the previous 13 games and will receive a day off after hitting .310 with two homers during that span. Adam Frazier will take over in right field and bat leadoff Sunday.
Jun 28 2024Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went back-to-back with Salvador Perez in the second inning, and the Royals never looked back. This was Renfroe's second multi-hit effort in seven games since he returned from a bruised toe. He's up to eight homers, 28 RBI, 25 runs scored and one stolen base while slashing .211/.292/.389 through 63 contests. As long as Adam Frazier (thumb) remains on the injured list, Renfroe should see a majority of the playing time in right field for the Royals.
Jun 25 2024Renfroe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 4-1 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's blast was his first in three games since he returned from a minimal stay on the injured list with a bruised toe. The outfielder has gone 8-for-25 (.320) in June, adding three homers and seven RBI across nine contests. While he's slashing just .198/.279/.373 on the year, his bat has started to come around, offering him a bit of security in a starting role in right field. Renfroe has added seven homers 27 RBI, 23 runs scored, 10 doubles and one stolen base over 197 plate appearances.
Jun 22 2024Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will take a seat Saturday after returning from the injured list Friday, going 0-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts. The lefty-hitting Adam Frazier will start in right field Saturday and bat in the leadoff spot against Rangers right-hander Jon Gray.
Jun 21 2024The Royals reinstated Renfroe (toe) from the 15-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 32-year-old resumed taking swings over the weekend and is back on the active roster after spending the 10-day minimum on the shelf with a bruised toe. Renfroe had a hot start to June prior to the injury as he went 7-for-18 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI in six games.
Jun 18 2024Renfroe (toe) resumed playing light catch last Wednesday and was spotted taking some swings on the field last weekend, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was placed on the 10-day injured list June 11 with a bone bruise and stress reaction in his left big toe, but he's already starting to take some small steps forward in his recovery. Shortly after Renfroe was placed on the IL, the Royals estimated that the 32-year-old outfielder would be out for 2-to-3 weeks. He'll thus have a chance to make it back from the shelf before the end of June.
Jun 12 2024MRI results revealed Wednesday that Renfroe does not have a fracture in his left big toe, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was initially diagnosed with a fractured toe after he fouled two pitches off his left foot during Monday's contest, but it now appears he managed to avoid a significant injury. It's unclear if the 32-year-old outfielder will be able to come off the IL when eligible June 21, but his expected return timeline has been significantly shortened nonetheless.
Jun 11 2024Renfroe (toe) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was removed from Monday's game after fouling two pitches off his left foot and he'll head to the injured list after being diagnosed with a broken big toe. In a corresponding move, the Royals called up Drew Waters from Triple-A Omaha. Dairon Blanco should also see some work in right field while Renfroe is sidelined.
Jun 10 2024Renfroe has been diagnosed with a broken left big toe, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was unable to continue Monday after fouling a pair of pitches off his left foot, and the team later revealed that he had suffered a toe fracture. Kansas City has yet to establish a timeline for his return, but Renfroe will almost certainly require a trip to the injured list to rehab. Dairon Blanco appears to be the next man up in right field, though Nelson Velazquez and Adam Frazier are also candidates to see time.
Jun 9 2024Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe nearly propelled the Royals to another comeback win, but they fell a run short after the outfielder's 10th-inning blast. He's now hit safely in nine straight games, going 12-for-32 (.375) with two homers and seven RBI in that span. Renfroe is up to a .201/.274/.367 with six homers, 26 RBI, 22 runs scored and one stolen base over 55 contests while seeing a starting role in right field. Among the Royals' outfielders, he's been hitting the best lately, but he could still continue to sit versus some right-handers in favor of Adam Frazier.
Jun 8 2024Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will begin Saturday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-4 with two RBI in the series opener Friday. He's currently on a seven-game hitting streak, going 9-for-26 with four doubles, one home run and five RBI over that span. The lefty-hitting Adam Frazier will start in right field and bat seventh against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo.
Jun 5 2024Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has quietly started to turn things around, going 13-for-49 (.265) with two homers, five doubles and eight RBI over his last 15 contests. That's a vast improvement over the first quarter-plus of the season, though he's still at an ugly .179/.256/.327 slash line through 172 plate appearances. Renfroe has added five homers, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, one stolen base and eight doubles over 51 contests. He sat out both games over the weekend with Nelson Velazquez and Adam Frazier each getting a turn in right field, but Renfroe remains the Royals' primary right fielder.
Jun 2 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: For the third time in four games, the right-handed-hitting Renfroe will take a seat against a right-handed starting pitcher. Though he's posted a .797 OPS over his last 14 games, Renfroe looks to be moving into more of a part-time role in right field. Adam Frazier will get the nod in right field Sunday.
Jun 1 2024Renfroe is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get a breather after he went 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in the team's 11-8 loss in Friday's series opener. Nelson Velazquez will slot in at right field while Freddy Fermin enters the lineup at catcher after some shuffling.
May 30 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe appears to be receiving some routine maintenance while the Royals and Twins wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Nelson Velazquez will step in for Renfroe in right field.
May 26 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran will get a breather for Sunday's day game after he went 1-for-6 with a double, three walks, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base while starting in right field in the first two games of the series. Nelson Velazquez will replace Renfroe in right field Sunday.
May 25 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-1 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe did a little of everything in this contest. He's starting to find some modest success at the plate, going 7-for-27 (.259) with six RBI over his last nine games. The outfielder is slashing .164/.243/.291 with four homers, one steal, 19 RBI, 16 runs scored and five doubles over 148 plate appearances. Despite the poor numbers, Renfroe is still getting a majority of the playing time in right field over Dairon Blanco, Nelson Velazquez and Adam Frazier.
May 22 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran outfielder will get a breather for the day game after he had started in right field in each of the Royals' last three contests. Renfroe has mustered a lowly .518 OPS over 144 plate appearances on the season, but he's shown some signs of life of late by going 6-for-24 with a home run and 3:3 BB:K over his last seven games.
May 21 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has gone 6-for-24 (.250) with five RBI over his last seven contests. While that's still modest hitting, it's a vast improvement on his .160 batting average for the season. Despite the middling results at the plate, Renfroe has started six of the last eight games in right field and appears to have fended off challenges for playing time from Dairon Blanco and Adam Frazier that popped up earlier in May. Renfroe has four homers, 18 RBI, 15 runs scored, four doubles, no stolen bases and a .518 OPS over 144 plate appearances.
May 18 2024Renfroe is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get a day off after he went 2-for-10 with a run scored while starting the team's last three contests. Adam Frazier enters the lineup at second base after some shuffling, batting eighth against Oakland.
May 10 2024Renfroe isn't in the Royals' lineup for Friday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get a chance to regroup Friday after going 0-for-10 across his last three games. Dairon Blanco will cover right field instead and bat eighth.
May 5 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the first two games of the series and will head to the bench for the finale after he went 2-for-7 with a homer, a walk and three RBI. Adam Frazier will start in right field and bat eighth Sunday.
May 4 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 7-1 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has struggled to get his bat going -- he's 3-for-27 (.111) over his last 10 games. The outfielder has started to lose playing time to Adam Frazier, who was squeezed out of a full-time role at second base when Michael Massey returned from a back injury. Renfroe is slashing a poor .155/.228/.298 with three homers, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and three doubles over 92 plate appearances, so he'll need to put together better performances to continue playing regularly.
May 1 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe looked to be on the outs for an everyday role when he was held out of the lineup for consecutive games last Thursday and Friday, but he started in each of the past four games. However, Renfroe went just 1-for-12 with two walks in those contests, and he now finds himself back on the bench while his season-long slash line now sits at .150/.218/.263. Adam Frazier will get the nod in right field Wednesday, and manager Matt Quartaro could be inclined to lean on a timeshare between Frazier and Renfroe at that spot in the lineup until one player starts to heat up at the plate.
Apr 26 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfoe isn't starting for the second straight game and for the third time in Kansas City's past four contests. The 32-year-old has a .149/.208/.284 slash line in 72 plate appearances and appears to be losing his grip on an everyday role. Adam Frazier will receive a start in right field Friday.
Apr 25 2024Renfroe is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will sit for the second time in three days while Kansas City opens up room in the outfield for Adam Frazier, who will occupy left field while MJ Melendez shifts over to right. Through 72 plate appearances this season, Renfroe is slashing just .149/.208/.284 with two home runs and 10 RBI. He could be in danger of fading into a part-time role in the Kansas City outfield.
Apr 23 2024Renfroe is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is in the midst of a 2-for-21 slump and will sit Tuesday after starting the previous six games. Dairon Blanco will take over in right field and bat seventh.
Apr 18 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went 0-for-3 with one RBI in the nightcap as well. The veteran outfielder is still holding onto a starting role in right field, but he's struggling at the plate in 2024. Renfroe is batting .176 with two homers, eight RBI, six runs scored and two doubles over 56 plate appearances. Nelson Velazquez has occasionally moved from designated hitter to right when Renfroe rests, and Adam Frazier could be an option there as well once Michael Massey (back) is activated from the injured list.
Apr 11 2024Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has a modest six-game hitting streak going but will take a seat in the series finale as the Astros send right-hander Hunter Brown to the rubber. MJ Melendez will slide over to right field and Nelson Velazquez will get a start in left.
Apr 8 2024Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe got the scoring going for the Royals with a fifth-inning home run off Garrett Crochet but was otherwise held quiet. He's now recorded a hit in four straight games but Sunday's blast were his first two RBI and his first hit for extra bases as he's gotten off to a very slow start to the year.
Apr 6 2024Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has struggled at the plate to begin the season, going 3-for-26 with one run, one walk and nine strikeouts. Garrett Hampson will get the start in left field Saturday, while MJ Melendez will move to right field for Renfroe.
Mar 1 2024Renfroe (back) is batting fifth as the designated hitter in Friday's spring game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran slugger has been held out of spring games thus far due to lower-back tightness, but he'll join the lineup for Friday's contest. Renfroe struggled to a .713 OPS last season after topping .800 the previous two seasons, and he'll be a key lineup piece for the Royals after signing a two-year, $13 million deal.
Feb 26 2024Renfroe has been held out of the Royals' Cactus League games thus far due to lower-back tightness but is expected to play Wednesday against the Mariners, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is participating in the Royals' workout Monday and looks to be nearly over the hump with his minor back issue. The veteran outfielder signed a two-year deal with Kansas City this offseason and is expected to be the club's everyday right fielder, with some starts at designated hitter also likely mixed in.
Dec 15 2023Renfroe is finalizing a two-year, $13 million contract with the Royals, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal includes an opt out after the first year, effectively making it a one-year contract with a player option. Renfroe battled through a disappointing 2023 campaign, slashing .233/.297/.416 with 20 home runs over 140 games between the Angels and Reds. The 31-year-old has been a consistent power source throughout his career, though, and should provide Kansas City's lineup with a little more thump.
Sep 21 2023The Reds released Renfroe on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After slashing just .128/.227/.205 across 44 plate appearances with Cincinnati, Renfroe was DFA'd by the team Monday and will now enter the open market. He wouldn't be eligible for the postseason if he were to sign elsewhere, so it's possible Renfroe remains without a team through the end of the year.
Sep 18 2023The Reds designated Renfroe for assignment Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went just 5-for-39 at the plate after being claimed off waivers from the Angels in August and was deemed expendable with Stuart Fairchild (illness) returning from the COVID-19-related injured list. Though he reached the 20-homer plateau again in 2023, Renfroe has put up a modest .713 OPS in 140 games after exceeding an .800 OPS in both of the previous two seasons. The 31-year-old will be a free agent this offseason.
Sep 14 2023Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the fourth straight game that we've seen Refroe on the bench against a left-hander, although a minor hamstring injury could have played a part in that. Jake Fraley is in the designated hitter spot and Nick Martini is in right field.
Sep 8 2023Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's loss against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe tallied his first Reds home run with a 378-ft shot off Drew Rom in the 3rd inning. Starts have been sporadic for the 31-year-old in the crowded Cincinnati outfield since being acquired from the Angels. Since joining the Reds on Sept. 1, Renfroe has started just four out of eight possible games.
Sep 6 2023Renfroe (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe drew a walk as a pinch hitter in the Reds' win over the Mariners on Tuesday, but he's not quite a full-go due to lingering left hamstring tightness. Nick Martini, TJ Friedl and Will Benson will start across the outfield Wednesday as Jake Fraley fills the DH role.
Sep 5 2023Renfroe was scratched from the lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners due to left hamstring tightness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Will Benson will move from left field to right field, with TJ Friedl taking over in left and Harrison Bader joining the Reds' lineup in center. Renfroe should be considered day-to-day for now.
Sep 3 2023Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe made his Reds debut in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader and is 0-for-9 with an RBI and a strikeout so far. The veteran outfielder may not have an everyday spot in Cincinnati's lineup but should still see regular at-bats down the stretch after being claimed off waivers from the Angels.
Sep 2 2023Renfroe started in right field and went 0-for-4 in a 6-2 loss to the Cubs in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. He entered as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1 in the nightcap. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe, who was awarded to the Reds after he was placed on waivers from the Angels, made his Cincinnati debut. His addition provides another competent bat to a team that has struggled to score runs consistently since the All-Star break.
Sep 1 2023Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader with the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 in his debut with Cincinnati in their opener Friday. Will Benson will take over in right field and bat seventh against Chicago.
Aug 31 2023Cincinnati claimed Renfroe off waivers from the Angels on Thursday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and four total RBI in his final game with the Angels on Wednesday in Philadelphia. The 31-year-old brings an established power stroke to the Reds' lineup, whether at DH or in the corner outfield, as they aim to reach the playoffs for just the second time in the last 10 years. Their other postseason appearance in that span was during the COVID-affected 2020 campaign. Also adding Harrison Bader on a waiver claim from the Yankees, the Reds are suddenly much more dangerous against left-handed pitching opponents.
Aug 29 2023The Angels waived Renfroe on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After slashing .239/.300/.425 across 496 plate appearances with the Angels this season, Renfroe -- alongside four other players -- will be let go by the team in an effort to dump a bit of salary. The 31-year-old outfielder signed a $11.9 million deal with the Halos in the offseason, but the team that claims Renfroe will be on the hook for only roughly $2 million of his salary. Renfroe's new team will mark his sixth in the past five seasons.
Aug 28 2023Renfroe is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has not sat much since the All-Star break, but he has not hit much in recent weeks either -- he owns a .481 OPS over his last 16 games -- so he will get a day to clear his head. Trey Cabbage will start in right field in Renfroe's place.
Aug 20 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Game 2 of a doubleheader split with Tampa Bay on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe didn't start Game 1, though he logged one plate appearance and struck out as a pinch hitter. The outfielder attempted to get the Angels into the game with a solo shot in the fifth inning of Game 2, though the Rays ultimately poured on the offense in an 18-4 rout. Renfroe's long ball was his first over 18 games in August, and he's batting a paltry .197 (12-for-61) with just five RBI and a 2:19 BB:K this month.
Jul 30 2023Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe opened the scoring Sunday with a sacrifice fly in the third inning before snapping a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer off Yimi Garcia in the 10th. The 31-year-old Renfroe has been on quite a run of late, going 11-for-19 (.579) with a pair of home runs over his last five games following a 1-for-23 stretch in his previous eight contests. Overall, Renfroe is slashing .256/.315/.463 with 17 homers, 48 runs scored and 47 RBI across 403 plate appearances this season.
Jul 27 2023Renfroe went 6-for-9 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and two RBI across both games of Thursday's doubleheader sweep of the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe collected three hits in each game of the twin bill, knocking two doubles in the matinee and swatting a solo homer in the nightcap. His six hits on the day were more than he had tallied over his past 11 contests combined coming into Thursday. Renfroe had been slumping badly prior to the doubleheader, going just 1-for-23 over his previous eight games.
Jul 23 2023Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe appears to be receiving a routine off day after he had started in each of the Halos' last 13 games. The Angels will roll out an outfield of Taylor Ward, Mickey Moniak and Trey Cabbage from left to right for the series finale.
Jul 5 2023Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two totals runs Tuesday in a loss to San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe plated the Angels' first run with a solo shot in the fifth inning, giving him three long balls over his past seven games. The stretch follows a span of 11 contests during which he didn't go deep at all. Despite the uptick in power, Renfroe has largely struggled since a 5-for-5 performance against Colorado on June 24, batting .152 with 10 strikeouts across 33 at-bats over his subsequent 10 games.
Jul 2 2023Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the past five games and will take a seat Sunday after he went 2-for-20 with two homers during that stretch. Mickey Moniak will man right field and bat leadoff.
Jun 30 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday in a loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is ending June on a positive note, as we went deep both Wednesday and Thursday. Prior to the pair of contests, the outfielder had hit just two long balls in 19 games this month, though he had posted a respectable .271/.301/.457 slash line over that span. Renfroe is up to 14 home runs on the campaign, giving him a shot at notching the third 30-homer season of his career.
Jun 28 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 11-5 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was 0-for-8 over the last three games following his five-hit effort Saturday versus the Rockies. The outfielder was on his way to another quiet game before popping a solo shot in the seventh inning Wednesday. He's up to 13 homers this season, three of which have come over 20 games in June. Renfroe's slashing .254/.301/.454 with 38 RBI, 38 runs scored, 18 doubles and no stolen bases over 74 contests. He made a couple of starts at first base over the weekend but has been in his usual spot in right field for the last two contests.
Jun 26 2023Renfroe isn't in the Angels' lineup Monday against the White Sox, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is slashing .414/.433/.586 with four RBI and four runs scored across his last eight games. Je'll get a breather Monday while Mickey Moniak takes over in right field and bats in the leadoff spot.
Jun 24 2023Renfroe went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, four RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 25-1 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started at first base, but the change of position didn't change his mindset at the plate. The 31-year-old turned in a massive performance with his fourth multi-hit effort over his last seven games, a span in which he's gone 12-for-25 (.480 with five doubles. The outfielder is up to a .261/.310/.460 slash line with 12 home runs, 37 RBI, 37 runs scored, 18 doubles and no stolen bases through 70 contests. Renfroe's turn at first may be a one-time thing after the Angels acquired Mike Moustakas from the Rockies following Saturday's game. If that holds true, Renfroe will likely go back to starting in right field while competing with Mickey Moniak for playing time.
Jun 21 2023Renfroe isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is 3-for-8 with two extra-base hits over his last two games and will get a breather Wednesday. Mickey Moniak will take over for Renfroe in right field and bat in the leadoff spot.
Jun 17 2023Renfroe will sit Saturday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's .243/.294/.442 line with 12 homers in 64 games is below expectations despite the fact that his 21.0 percent strikeout rate is his lowest mark since his 11-game debut back in 2016. He'll sit for the second time in three games, with the Angels again giving Mickey Moniak a look in right field. Moniak is hitting .325/.350/.675 through 22 games, so he could continue to cut into Renfroe's playing time as long as he remains hot.
Jun 15 2023Renfroe isn't in the Angels' lineup Thursday against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is slashing just .095/.174/.286 since coming off the paternity list Saturday and will get Thursday off to regroup. Mickey Moniak will take Renfroe's place in right field while batting sixth.
Jun 14 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe hit his 12th long ball of year in the sixth inning of Tuesday's contest. The home run was his first since coming off the paternity list Saturday, and just his second in the last 26 games. The 31-year-old outfielder has struggled mightily on the road this season, batting just .193 with three home runs compared to a .308 average with nine homers at home.
Jun 10 2023Renfroe was reinstated off the paternity list by the Angels on Sunday and is hitting seventh while playing right field, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe comes back after leaving the club on Wednesday to spend time with the new addition to his family. Jo Adell was optioned back to Triple-A in a corresponding transaction.
Jun 8 2023Angels manager Phil Nevin said Renfroe (paternity) is due to return Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's wife gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday and he'll return to baseball duties this weekend against the Mariners after spending some time with his growing family. The 31-year-old slugger has put up 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 58 games this season.
Jun 7 2023Renfroe was placed on the paternity leave list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will miss the next 1-to-3 games while he tends to more important matters. Jo Adell has been recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Jun 6 2023Renfroe is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Cubs, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will take a seat after he went 5-for-16 with a solo homer and a double while striking out twice during the four-game series with Houston. Mickey Moniak will draw the start in right field and bat eighth in the series opener with Chicago.
Jun 3 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe came into the contest having gone 20 games without a homer, so his seventh-inning solo shot was a welcome sign for his fantasy managers. The outfielder had maintained a tolerable .253 batting average and 21.7 percent strikeout rate during the homer drought, so he hasn't been been at risk of losing any playing time. Renfroe is up to 11 long balls on the campaign, putting him on pace to reach the 25-homer mark for the sixth time over six full big-league seasons (not including the shortened 2020 campaign).
May 31 2023Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will head to the bench for the second time in four days while Mickey Moniak fills in for him in right field. Both Renfroe (.638 OPS in May) and Taylor Ward (.639 OPS in May) have offered similarly underwhelming production this month, and the two players may be temporarily stuck in a timeshare for one spot in the Anaheim outfield while Moniak has played well enough since his call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake to warrant a regular place in the outfield alongside Mike Trout.
May 28 2023Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News, manager Phil Nevin said Renfroe is just getting a routine day off after he went 1-for-9 at the dish in the first two games of the series with Miami. With Renfroe on the bench, the Angels will have room in the outfield for both Mickey Moniak and Taylor Ward at the corner-outfield spots alongside center fielder Mike Trout.
May 20 2023Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Friday's 5-4 victory versus the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe produced what ended up being the game-winning run with an RBI single in the seventh inning. He tallied three hits in total, marking his third three-hit effort of the season. Renfroe has been an excellent addition by the Angels, as he's slashing .262/.317/.488 with 10 homers, 29 RBI and 27 runs through 189 plate appearances on the campaign.
May 16 2023Renfroe is not in the Angels' lineup for Tuesday's contest in Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It would appear to be a routine day off for Renfroe, who doubled twice and plated a run in Monday's win over the Orioles. Mickey Moniak is in right field and batting leadoff Tuesday.
May 11 2023Renfroe went 2-for-2 with two walks and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's two-run home run gave the Angels a 2-1 lead in the second, and he went on to reach safely in all four of his plate appearances Wednesday. The slugger has hit a long ball in three of his last four starts, racking up five RBI during that stretch. On the season (36 games), he's slashing .257/.316/.521 with 10 homers and 26 RBI.
May 8 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a 6-4 win against Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe hit the only homer for the Angels in the victory, taking Hunter Brown deep to center in the second inning. The veteran outfielder leads the club with nine long balls and 24 RBI on the campaign, as he's proving to be an excellent offseason addition to complement the dynamic bats of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Renfroe is on seven-game hitting streak, and he's knocked exactly one hit in each of those contests.
May 7 2023Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly in Sunday's 16-8 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe got the Angels within two runs in the third inning with the sac fly, but his solo shot in the ninth did little to make the lopsided loss look better. He's hit safely in his last six games, going 6-for-26 (.231) in that span. The long ball was his first since April 26, and he's up to eight homers, 23 RBI and 23 runs scored while slashing .254/.308/.492 through 33 contests overall.
May 6 2023Renfroe is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rangers, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is hitting .214 with one home run, eight runs and three RBI over his last 10 games. Luis Rengifo gets the start in right field while batting ninth.
Apr 27 2023Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and three total runs in Wednesday's 11-3 victory over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe hit one of three homers for the Angels in the win, belting a 420-foot solo shot in the third inning. The long ball was his seventh of the season, the most on the club so far. Renfroe also leads the Angels with 19 RBI, and he is proving to be a big addition to an offense centered on superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
Apr 5 2023Renfroe went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 11-2 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's two hits tied Taylor Ward for the team lead on a night the Halos offense couldn't get much going against Seattle starter Luis Castillo and a fleet of relievers. Fantasy managers that selected Renfroe in the middle-to-late rounds of drafts hoping for power production have been disappointed thus far; he's yet to record an extra-base hit across 23 plate appearances.
Mar 29 2023Renfroe went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's exhibition contest against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe hit the first of back-to-back homers off Ryan Pepiot in the third inning. The veteran outfielder's first spring with the Angels went well, as he finished the exhibition slate with a .289/.360/.600 slash line, four homers, nine RBI and a 5:5 BB:K. Renfroe will slot in as the team's starting right fielder after blasting 60 homers over the past two seasons.
Feb 18 2023Renfroe won his arbitration case against the Angels on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will make $11.9 million, per Sam Blum of The Athletic. The slugging right fielder lines up for an everyday role in Anaheim after hitting .255/.315/.492 with 29 home runs in 125 games as a Brewer last season.
Nov 22 2022Renfroe was acquired by the Angels from the Brewers on Tuesday in exchange for Janson Junk, Elvis Peguero and Adam Seminaris. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was acquired by Milwaukee from Boston in November 2021, and he's now on the move once again and will play for his fifth team in the past five years. The 30-year-old had a typical power-heavy campaign in 2022 with a .255/.315/.492 slash line, 29 home runs and 72 RBI in 125 games, and he'll provide an upgrade in the corner outfield for the Angels alongside Mike Trout and Taylor Ward.
Oct 5 2022Renfroe isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is getting a rare day off for Wednesday's season finale after he hit .350 with a homer, two doubles, three runs, two RBI and three strikeouts over the last five games. Tyrone Taylor will take over in right field and bat ninth.
Oct 3 2022Renfroe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's extra-inning win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe launched a solo homer off Joe Mantiply in the bottom of the ninth inning before ripping a walk-off single in the 10th frame. The home run was his 29th of the year and fourth in his last nine games. Renfroe has now notched at least one hit in nine out of his last 10 games, batting .375 with four homers, nine RBI and eight runs over that stretch.
Sep 24 2022Renfroe went 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 10-2 victory over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's first hit was a single to lead off the second inning. He then crushed two-run home runs in each of his next two at-bats in the fourth and fifth innings, driving in Rowdy Tellez both times. The right fielder's fifth RBI of the game came on a seventh-inning single that drove home Willy Adames. It was quite the night for Renfroe, who came into the game with just two hits in his last 21 at-bats (.095). It was also just his second four-hit game of the season.
Sep 20 2022Renfroe isn't starting Tuesday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's production has taken quite the hit lately -- he's slashing .197/.240/.338 since the start of September. To give him a break, Andrew McCutchen will play in right field for Renfroe and Keston Hiura will serve as the Brewers' designated hitter, batting seventh.
Sep 5 2022Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was essentially the entirety of the Milwaukee offense in the series finale in Arizona, as he finished with two of the team's three hits on the night and accounted for the Brewers' only run in the top of the ninth after Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen exited the game. The home run ended a nine-game drought for Renfroe and was his 24th of the season, leaving him four behind Rowdy Tellez for the team lead. Renfroe will be back in the lineup for Monday's series opener in Colorado, occupying the designated hitter spot and batting cleanup.
Aug 30 2022Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Monday's victory over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The multi-hit effort was Renfroe's fifth over his last 10 games, a stretch that raised his batting average from .239 to .254. He has been one of the top producers in the league in the second half, putting up 10 home runs and 29 RBI -- to go along with a .917 OPS -- over 33 games since the All-Star break.
Aug 25 2022Renfroe went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three total RBI in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe knocked in the Brewers' second run of the game with a double in the third inning, and he swatted a two-run homer off infielder-turned-relief-pitcher Hanser Alberto in the ninth. The homer was Renfroe's third in his past six games, and he's also had three multi-hit performances in that stretch, though he's gone 0-for-11 in the other three contests. Overall, the veteran slugger is slashing .246/.309/.508 with 23 homers, 53 RBI and a stolen base across 364 plate appearances on the season.
Aug 23 2022Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is 0-for-11 since hitting homers in back-to-back contests Thursday and Friday, and his absence from Tuesday's lineup will end a string of 32 consecutive starts. Andrew McCutchen will shift to right field while Keston Hiura serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 20 2022Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The homer, which hit the scoreboard in left field at Wrigley Field, was Renfroe's second in as many days and ninth since the All-Star break came to a close. He owns a stellar .935 OPS over that stretch, and thanks to his hot hitting has been in the lineup for all 25 games the Brewers have played in the second half.
Aug 15 2022Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-3 loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe kicked off the scoring in Sunday's contest with a two-run shot that scored Andrew McCutchen. It was Renfroe's first home run this month after hitting six in July. The outfielder now has 20 on the season. It has been a rough month for Renfroe who has an August batting average of .189 after going 7-for-37 with 10 strikeouts. His season batting average now sits at .246.
Aug 10 2022Renfroe went 1-for-2 with two walks during Wednesday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After racking up six home runs in nine games during late July, Renfroe has gone ice cold at the plate, slashing .154/.333/.192 since the start of August. Wednesday's performance was somewhat a return to form, but it is definitely safe to say Renfroe's hot streak has come to an end.
Jul 31 2022Renfroe went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 7-2 loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe put Milwaukee on the board with his two-run shot off of Josh Winckowski and it proved to be the team's only offense of the afternoon. The 30-year-old outfielder has gone deep six times over his last nine games, going 12-for-38 (.316) with 14 RBI during that span. He improved his season slash line to .254/.305/.523 with 19 homers and 35 runs scored through 68 games.
Jul 27 2022Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in the Brewers' 7-6 win over the Twins on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe saw his three-game home-run streak come to an end in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Rockies, but it didn't take the 30-year-old to start up a new streak. He's now up to 17 home runs on the season, trailing Willy Adames (20) and Rowdy Tellez (18) for the team lead. Renfroe will be back in action for Wednesday's series finale, batting fifth while manning right field.
Jul 25 2022Renfroe went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's victory over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has come out of the All-Star break on a tear, recording three straight multi-hit games and homering in each one. He now owns an .827 OPS on the season, which would be the best full-season mark of his career.
Jul 23 2022Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe gave the Brewers their first lead in the fourth frame with his 424-foot three-run shot to center field. The blast was his second in as many games since the start of the second half, and he's gone 4-for-9 with five RBI over that brief stretch. Renfroe's power tends to come in bunches -- this is his third consecutive-game homer streak this season.
Jul 14 2022Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was 0-for-1 in stolen base attempts this year before swiping second as part of a double-steal in the first inning. Considering this was his 14th career steal in seven years, the outfielder shouldn't be expected to run often. He's gone 1-for-8 with a walk in two games since he returned from a calf injury that cost him a few weeks. Renfroe is slashing .243/.296/.481 with 13 home runs, 27 RBI, 27 runs scored and 10 doubles through 56 contests.
Jul 13 2022Renfroe isn't starting Wednesday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe returned from the injured list for Tuesday's matchup against Minnesota and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. However, he'll get a breather while Jonathan Davis starts in center field and Jace Peterson takes over in right.
Jul 12 2022The Brewers reinstated Renfroe (calf) from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game in Minnesota. He'll start in right field and bat eighth in his return to action. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported over the weekend that Renfroe was unlikely to make it back from the IL until the Brewers' final series before the All-Star break in San Francisco, but the 30-year-old will end up returning to action a couple days earlier than anticipated. He didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment while he was on the shelf, as the Brewers were evidently encouraged enough by how Renfroe's strained left calf responded to running and outfield work. Renfroe is expected to settle back into an everyday role in the outfield, leaving fewer opportunities available for the likes of Jace Peterson, Keston Hiura and Jonathan Davis.
Jul 9 2022Renfroe (calf) appears likely to return during the Brewers' series in San Francisco late next week, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has been on the injured list with a left calf strain since June 26, but he resumed baseball activities Monday. He's slated to miss at least a few more days, and it's possible that he's sent on a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Brewers.
Jul 4 2022Renfroe (calf) resumed baseball activities Monday, Joey Pollizze of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe had been inactive since landing on the injured list with a calf injury, but he was able to get some work in on the field Monday. It's not yet clear how much longer Renfroe will be sidelined and if he will need a rehab assignment before he returns.
Jul 2 2022Renfroe (calf) won't be reinstated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was initially optimistic that he'd be able to rejoin the Brewers following a minimal IL stint, but he's still bothered by his calf injury and hasn't yet resumed running on the field. The team will give him extra time to recover to prevent a long-term issue, but it's not yet clear when he's expected to return.
Jun 26 2022The Brewers placed Renfroe on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left calf strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe hasn't seen the field since Wednesday while dealing with the calf injury, and he'll now hit the shelf for the second time in less than a month after he was previously sidelined with a hamstring issue. According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Renfroe said he's hopeful to miss the minimum amount of time or about two weeks due the calf issue, but his timeline for a return won't become clear until he's able to resume baseball activities. Pablo Reyes was called up from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Jonathan Davis, who started the past three games, should continue to see increased playing time while Renfroe is out.
Jun 25 2022Renfroe (calf) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays and will be available off the bench only in an emergency, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe did some running today and it appeared he did well enough to avoid the injured list, but he'll still be sidelined for the third straight game by the calf injury. The Brewers have a scheduled day off Monday, so he could be held out again Sunday to provide some extra rest heading into Tuesday's series opener in Tampa Bay.
Jun 24 2022Renfroe has been held out of the lineup the past two games due to a calf injury, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The specifics of the issue remain unclear, but he apparently suffered the injury while going 1-for-4 with a double during Wednesday's matchup with the Cardinals. It should become clearer Saturday whether or not Renfroe will require a trip to the injured list.
Jun 23 2022Renfroe isn't starting Thursday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe recorded hits in seven of the last eight games and slashed .286/.429/.679 with three home runs, two doubles, seven RBI and four runs during that time, but he'll take a seat Thursday. Tyrone Taylor will shift to right field while Jonathan Davis starts in center.
Jun 20 2022Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk Sunday in the Brewers' 6-3 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was the star of the Brewers' three-game series sweep, leaving the yard in all three contests to bring his season total to 13, which ties Willy Adames for the team lead. He's also driven in at least one run in each of his last four games, a welcome sight for fantasy managers after he recorded only one RBI across his preceding 10 contests.
Jun 19 2022Renfroe went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The long ball was the second of the series for Renfroe, who also left the yard and drove in three runs in Friday's 5-4 victory. Since coming off the 10-day injured list June 7, Renfroe is batting only .195, but he's at least aided fantasy managers with three home runs and six RBI in his first 11 games back in action. He remains in the lineup for Sunday's series finale in Cincinnati, manning right field and batting cleanup.
Jun 7 2022Renfroe (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is ready to go after missing the last two weeks with a right hamstring strain. Prior to the injury, he hit .266/.303/.503 with nine homers in 155 plate appearances. He recorded a 191 wRC+ against lefties and a 90 wRC+ against righties, but it looks like he's in line for a true everyday role upon his return.
Jun 3 2022Renfroe is eligible to be activated Friday but the Brewers are expected to give him a few more days of running to test his hamstring, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Brewers are off on Monday, so they may be targeting Tuesday at home against the Phillies for Renfroe's activation if McCalvy's report is accurate. Tyrone Taylor has been performing well in Renfroe's absence and he draws another start in right field Friday.
Jun 2 2022Renfroe (hamstring) won't return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has made good progress in his recovery from a right hamstring strain and remains on track to return soon, but manager Craig Counsell said that the team wants the outfielder to have some more days to work on his running. The 30-year-old took batting practice Wednesday and went through a full workout Thursday, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him back in action at some point during that Brewers' weekend series against the Padres.
Jun 1 2022Renfroe (hamstring) took part in batting practice prior to Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old did some running on the field prior to Tuesday's contest, and he progressed to batting practice Wednesday. Renfroe hopes to return from the 10-day injured list Friday when first eligible, and he appears on track to be reinstated to the active roster.
May 31 2022Renfroe (hamstring) said he's at about 90 percent and expects to be ready to be reinstated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe began ramping up his rehab work Monday and did some running on the field prior to Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. The 30-year-old shouldn't require a minor-league rehab stint given the potential brevity of the absence, and he should be back Friday if he can avoid any setbacks over the next couple days.
May 29 2022Renfroe (hamstring) said Saturday that he anticipates being ready to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Renfroe definitely said he doesn't think his hamstring will be a concern by the time Friday rolls around, he acknowledged that whether he's activated ahead of the weekend will ultimately be decided by the organization. Renfroe will do his part to put himself in position for being activated Friday by initiating a rehab program Monday, and he's likely to steadily ramp up his activities in the days that follow. Whenever Renfroe's return from the IL comes, fewer starts out of the outfield will be available for Tyrone Taylor and Lorenzo Cain.
May 24 2022Renfroe was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a strained right hamstring, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old exited Monday's contest with right hamstring discomfort and will now head to the injured list after undergoing an MRI. According to Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin, Renfroe is dealing with a low-grade strain and is expected to be sidelined 10-to-14 days. Tyrone Taylor is likely to take over as Milwaukee's primary right fielder in the meantime.
May 23 2022Renfroe exited Monday's game against the Padres due to right hamstring discomfort, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe scored from first base in the third inning and was lifted from the game one frame later. It's not clear whether he'll require a stint on the injured list, though Tyrone Taylor would likely find his way into the lineup more regularly in Renfroe's potential absence.
May 21 2022Renfroe went 3-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk in Friday's victory over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe owned a .622 OPS at the end of play April 22, but thanks to a 23-game stretch over which he posted eight homers and 14 RBI, that mark now sits at .827. Renfroe is playing nearly every day for the Brewers and has primarily been hitting sixth against right-handers and cleanup against southpaws.
May 11 2022Renfroe went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs during Wednesday's 14-11 loss to the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe entered Wednesday's contest 3-for-19 over his past five games, but he bounced back with his second multi-homer game of the season. The 30-year-old's power has been on display early in 2022 with eight long balls, but he's struggled with consistency and has a .227/.265/.491 slash line with 13 RBI and 16 runs.
May 10 2022Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe looks to be getting some routine maintenance after he had started in each of the Brewers' 12 games since April 27. Tyrone Taylor will spell Renfroe in right field.
May 8 2022Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Braves on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe brought the Brewers to within a run with a seventh-inning 425-foot solo shot to center field, but Milwaukee's comeback attempt ultimately fell short. The long ball was Renfroe's sixth of the campaign and first in May. He's added a jolt of power into Milwaukee's lineup after slugging 31 homers for Boston last season.
May 1 2022Renfroe went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and two RBI during Saturday's 9-1 win against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe singled home a run and scored in the first inning, singled and scored again in the fifth and tacked on a solo shot in the eighth off Chicago reliever Locke St. John. The 30-year-old has tormented Cubs pitching through two games this weekend, going a combined 5-for-9 with three home runs to wrap up a scorching conclusion to April. Renfroe is now slashing .253/.288/.507 through 20 games this season.
Apr 26 2022Renfroe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will hit the bench for only the second time in the Brewers' first 18 games of the season. Tyrone Taylor will pick up a start in right field in place of Renfroe, who followed up a 3-for-4, two-extra-base-hit performance in Saturday's win over the Phillies with an 0-for-7 showing at the dish between the Brewers' subsequent two contests.
Apr 24 2022Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old right fielder took Cristopher Sanchez deep in the sixth inning for the Brewers' final run of the day. Renfroe's bat has woken up -- both his homers on the season have come in the last four games, and over the last 10 contests he's slashing .333/.359/.611.
Apr 19 2022Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went deep in the bottom of the seventh inning, connecting on a Roansy Contreras slider and extending the Brewers' lead to 5-2. Apr 17 2022Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will hit the bench for the first time this season after going 7-for-33 (.212 average) with two doubles, three walks, two RBI and a run while starting in each of Milwaukee's first nine games. With Renfroe riding the pine, Andrew McCutchen will patrol right field, while Keston Hiura handles McCutchen's usual role as the Brewers' designated hitter.
Apr 13 2022Renfroe will start in right field and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Along with Andrew McCutchen, Christian Yelich and Willy Adames, Renfroe is one of four Brewers who has picked up starts in each of Milwaukee's first six games. Renfroe has batted out of the No. 6 spot in the order in each of the team's three games against right-handed starters, and he'll occupy the cleanup spot for the third time in a row against a southpaw (John Means) on Wednesday. The 29-year-old should handle the starting job in right field for the Brewers, replacing Avisail Garcia, who left via free agency and recently signed with the Marlins.
Oct 1 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 4-2 win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder's sixth-inning blast was ultimately all Boston needed to pick up a valuable win in its chase for a wild-card spot. He'll take a seat Tuesday despite his recent success as J.D. Martinez, Enrique Hernandez and Alex Verdugo man the Boston outfield from left to right.
Sep 8 2021Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe, who singled earlier in the game, stepped to the plate with one on and the Red Sox trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning and launched a JT Chargois offering over the Green Monster. Aug 31 2021The Red Sox are activating Renfroe (bereavement) before Tuesday's game against the Rays, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder is back with the team after missing five games. Having hit .333 with seven home runs and 17 RBI in his last 13 games, Renfroe should provide an immediate boost to Boston's lineup and outfield defense.
Aug 28 2021Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Renfroe (personal) doesn't have a timetable to return from the bereavement list, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has been on the bereavement list since Thursday. The Red Sox short on position players with Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo on the COVID-19 injured list, but it's not yet clear when Renfroe will rejoin the team. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Boston recalled Jarren Duran from Triple-A Worcester to give the club an extra body in the outfield while Renfroe is away for at least the next 3-to-7 days. Look for Alex Verdugo to serve as the primary replacement for Renfroe in right field over the next few days, while Duran likely gets most of the work in center when the Red Sox face right-handed starting pitchers.

For the season, Renfroe owns a .256/.312/.480 slash line, 68 RBI, 63 runs scored and 24 doubles through 414 plate appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe brought Boston to within one run with his 427-foot blast to center in the fourth but failed to do anything else of note at the dish. This is 29-year-old's third straight game with an extra-base hit, though he's just 3-for-20 over his last six games.
Jul 24 2021Renfroe isn't starting Saturday against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will get a rare day off after he went 1-for-8 with an RBI and three strikeouts across the last two contests. Franchy Cordero will take over in right field and bat eighth.
Jul 21 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in a victory versus the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe capped the scoring in the contest with a 404-foot blast to center field in the eighth inning. The long ball was the fifth of the game for Boston and the eighth overall between the two squads. Renfroe has now homered in back-to-back games, collecting five RBI over the pair of contests.
Jul 19 2021Renfroe went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Monday's 13-4 victory over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe did his damage in the top of the first inning, hitting a grand slam to extend his team's early lead. Despite a big hit Monday night, he's struggled of late, as he's now 10-for-50 with two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored through 13 contests in July.
Jul 7 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His ninth-inning blast off Raisel Iglesias was too little too late for the Red Sox, but it did give Renfroe his 13th homer of the year, including four in his last eight games. The 29-year-old has been a surprisingly steady performer for Boston in the first half, and he's on pace for career highs in batting average, OBP, runs and RBI through 75 contests.
Jul 4 2021Renfroe is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the last 17 games and will take a seat after slashing .313/.356/.594 with five homers and 17 RBI during that span. Alex Verdugo will shift to right field while Danny Santana starts in left.
Jul 1 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His solo shot in the eighth inning off Anthony Swarzak capped the scoring on the night. Renfroe has three homers and six RBI in his last three games as he put the finishing touches on a big June. He slashed .295/.378/.505 in 27 contests on the month with five of his 12 long balls on the year, in addition to 16 runs and 20 RBI.
Jun 28 2021Renfroe went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in Monday's 6-5 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe launched a two-run shot off Danny Duffy in the fourth inning and later hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth. The 29-year-old outfielder has been hot over his last 12 games, going 16-for-45 (.356) with four homers and 13 RBI during that stretch. For the season, he's gone deep 11 times and owns an .803 OPS through 264 plate appearances.
Jun 27 2021Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a RBI in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe tallied three singles in the game and drove in Xander Bogaerts in the third inning. He has been productive in his last 10 games, batting .368 with two home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored. The 29-year-old's current line of .272/.328/.453 is the highest of his career over a 66-game stretch. He has found a nice home in Boston this season after struggling to a .156 batting average for Tampa Bay in the shortened 2020 campaign.
Jun 26 2021Renfroe went 1-for-1 with two walks, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He also threw out Gio Urshela at the plate in the fourth inning as Urshela attempted to score from second base on a single, preserving what at the time was a one-run lead for Boston. Renfroe has hit safely in five straight contests and eight of his last nine, slashing .324/.385/.588 over that nine-game stretch with two homers, three doubles, six runs and nine RBI.
Jun 22 2021Renfroe went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe took advantage of a mistake from Ryan Yarbrough and took him deep for a two-run home run in the third inning, increasing Boston's lead to three runs at the time. It was his second long ball in the last week. In addition, he knocked in Rafael Devers on a single and later scored in the 11th inning. The 29-year-old Renfroe is slashing .260/.317/.443 with nine home runs, 34 RBI and 37 runs in 240 plate appearances.
Jun 16 2021Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and another RBI in Tuesday's 10-8 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was back in the starting lineup after getting a breather Monday. He went back-to-back with Rafael Devers in the first inning for his eighth homer and first in 14 games. He's settled into a regular role now that his bat heated up. In April, he started 18 of 28 games and batted .167 with a .485 OPS. Once May rolled around, Renfroe began hitting with more regularity (.319 and .938), solidifying his presence in the lineup. He's started 37 of the last 40 games.
Jun 14 2021Renfroe isn't starting Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has hit just .130 with three runs, three RBI and four walks in the last seven games. Alex Verdugo will shift to right field while Marwin Gonzalez starts in left field.
Jun 5 2021Renfroe is batting fifth and playing right field Saturday against the Yankees, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: So much for the day off, as Renfroe will be called upon to fill in for J.D. Martinez, a late scratch for undisclosed reasons. In his career against Yankees' starter Jameson Taillon, Renfroe is 3-for-6 with a homer and a double.
May 31 2021Renfroe went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, and two total runs scored in Monday's 11-2 loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In the sixth inning, Renfroe got aboard with a double and put Boston on the board when he scored on Alex Verdugo's double. Renfroe added a solo shot in the eighth. The 29-year-old has multiple hits in each of his last four games, and six out of nine of them have gone for extra bases. The recent surge has lifted the outfielder's slash line to .258/.292/.464 with seven home runs, 23 RBI, 25 runs scored and 10 doubles through 161 plate appearances this year.
May 29 2021Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That's now three straight multi-hit efforts for Renfroe, who has boosted his batting average to .250 -- its highest point of the season -- with the hot streak. The 29-year-old also has six homers, 22 RBI and 23 runs through 42 games, and with Franchy Cordero demoted to Triple-A, Renfroe's playing time is a little more secure.
May 27 2021Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run Wednesday in Boston's 9-5 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The pair of extra-base hits matched Renfroe's total from his previous 11 games combined. For the second straight season, Renfroe is sporting a slugging percentage under .400, but the 29-year-old still looks to have a decent amount of job security as Boston's primary right fielder.
May 22 2021Renfroe will hit the bench Saturday against the Phillies, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will lose his starting spot in part due to the fact that the series is in a National League park. J.D. Martinez can't play designated hitter under National League rules, so he'll head out to right field and push Renfroe to the bench.
May 19 2021Renfroe is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe receives his first day off since April 28. Early in the season, the right-handed hitter was not an everyday starter, but recent improvements at the plate and stellar defense have made Renfroe a staple in Boston's lineup as the Red Sox' right fielder. Alex Verdugo gets the start in right field Wednesday with Franchy Cordero playing left, though Renfroe is a safe bet to return to the lineup Thursday against lefty Steven Matz
May 14 2021Renfroe went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He gave the Red Sox an early lead by taking Griffin Canning deep in the second inning. Renfroe has caught fire in May, going 17-for-52 (.327) through 13 games with four of his five homers on the season, 10 runs and 11 RBI.
May 9 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe provided the Red Sox with some insurance via his solo shot in the eighth inning, and the home run proved to be the difference in the narrow victory. The 29-year-old has driven in at least one run in seven of his last eight games and has hit .314 with three homers, a double, nine RBI, seven runs and seven strikeouts during that time.
May 4 2021Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double, solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored Tuesday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe tallied at least one hit for the third consecutive game, this time notching two extra-base hits in a contest for the first time on the campaign. His production began with an RBI single in the first inning, though the highlight came four innings later when he slugged his third homer of the season. Despite the recent uptick in performance, Renfroe is still hitting just .222/.275/.389 across 80 plate appearances for the campaign.
May 1 2021Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old smacked a two-run homer off Jordan Lyles in the second inning, his second of the season. The right-handed hitter is slashing .188./.250/.313 as he looks to build off this current momentum.
Apr 28 2021Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Alex Verdugo (hamstring) returning from a two-game absence and with J.D. Martinez picking up a start in the outfield due to the lack of the designated hitter in the National League park, Renfroe will be squeezed out of the lineup. Look for Renfroe to settle back into an everyday role in the outfield Thursday, when the Red Sox open a four-game series in Texas.
Apr 24 2021Renfroe isn't starting Saturday's game against Seattle, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will retreat to the bench for the second time in the last four games. Marwin Gonzalez will step in as the right fielder Saturday, batting sixth.
Apr 21 2021Renfroe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alex Verdugo will cover right field in place of Renfroe, who heads to the bench following four straight starts. With one home run and a .171 average across 46 plate appearances this season, Renfroe has been the clear weak link in a Boston offense that has produced an MLB-best 127 wRC+ entering play Wednesday. If he doesn't turn things around soon, Renfroe could end up moving into a short-side platoon role in the outfield.
Apr 18 2021Renfroe went 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 3-2 loss to the White Sox in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's two-out high chopper took an odd bounce away from third baseman Yoan Moncada, allowing J.D. Martinez to score from third base. It was the fourth RBI in eight games for Renfroe, who entered the twinbill nightcap with a .571 OPS.
Apr 17 2021Renfroe isn't starting Saturday's game against the White Sox, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will sit for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-2 with two walks, one run and a strikeout Thursday. Alex Verdugo will shift to right field while Enrique Hernandez starts in center Saturday.
Apr 14 2021Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe blasted his first home run in the fifth inning to get Boston on the board and begin its comeback from a 2-0 deficit. He had been sidelined by general soreness and played for the first time in a week. Along with the soreness, Renfroe hasn't been a lineup regular against right-handers, as four of his six starts have come against lefties.
Apr 12 2021Renfroe (undisclosed) is starting Monday's game against the Twins, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was feeling sore over the weekend and didn't play in the team's three-game series against the Orioles, but he'll play center field and bat sixth in Monday's series opener against Minnesota. Through his first five games this year, Renfroe has gone 3-for-19 with a double, four runs and one RBI.
Apr 11 2021Renfroe (general soreness) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will end up sitting out all three games of the series on account of the injury, but the outfielder isn't believed to be at risk of moving to the 10-day injured list. Alex Verdugo spells Renfroe in right field Sunday.
Apr 10 2021Renfroe isn't starting Saturday against the Orioles since he's feeling sore, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe didn't start Thursday's series opener against Baltimore, and he'll remain sidelined through the remainder of the weekend series as a precautionary measure. Alex Verdugo is shifting to right field while Christian Arroyo starts at second base Saturday
Apr 8 2021Renfroe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against Baltimore, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has started against all three of the lefties the Red Sox have faced this season, but he finds himself on the bench against a righty (Matt Harvey) for the second time in four opportunities. Early indications seem to be that he'll have something in between a platoon role and a true everyday position. Alex Verdugo slides to right field in his absence, with Enrique Hernandez starting in center.
Apr 6 2021Renfroe went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 11-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was in the lineup against a right-hander for the first time this season. The first time Boston faced a righty, the second game of the season, manager Alex Cora made several lineup changes, one of which was removing Renfroe. It wasn't clear at the time whether Cora, who talked after that game about the lineup flexibility he has, was going to sit Renfroe against same-handed pitchers. Apparently, that's not the case.
Apr 3 2021Renfro was not in the lineup against Baltimore right-hander Matt Harvey on Saturday in a defensive alignment that is likely to be deployed often against right-handers, Christoper Smith of MassLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: At first glance, it was thought the right-handed hitting Renfroe would have a near-daily spot in the lineup, but his playing time will be significantly reduced if he's largely limited to left-handed starters. Alex Verdugo moved from center to right field Saturday while Enrique Hernandez shifted from second base to center. Marwin Gonzalez went from left field to second base, and Franchy Cordero patrolled left.
Mar 25 2021Renfroe went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's spring game against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe launched his third spring home run and has nine RBI over 16 Grapefruit League games. He projects as the primary starter in right field but can play all three outfield spots if needed.
Mar 6 2021Renfroe went 1-for-2 with an RBI-single in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe made his fourth spring start, all in right field, and is a cumulative 3-for-7 with a double, a run scored and four RBI. He's expected to serve as a starting corner outfielder, but manager Alex Cora told Christopher Smith of MassLive.com that he values Alex Verdugo's defense in right field at Fenway Park. If Verdugo moves from center to right field at home, Renfroe (three career games in CF) could move to left field (123 games) while Franchy Cordero patrols center (43 career starts) for games on the road.
Dec 14 2020Renfroe signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Red Sox on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe reached the World Series with the Rays last season but was designated for assignment in November after posting a disappointing .156/.252/.393 slash line. How exactly he fits into Boston's outfield plans won't become entirely clear until the conclusion of the offseason, but he should at least be able to carve out a role against lefties. He's a career .258/.339/.573 hitter against southpaws, but his .216/.268/.449 career line against righties makes it tough to rely on him as an everyday option.
Nov 25 2020Renfroe cleared waivers and became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, John Romano of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old was designated for assignment by the Rays last week, and he's now been fully cut loose by the team after going unclaimed on waivers. Renfroe was acquired by Tampa Bay from San Diego last offseason and struggled during the shortened campaign with a .156/.252/.393 slash line, eight homers and 22 RBI in 42 games.
Nov 20 2020Renfroe was designated for assignment on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays have the most talented 40-man roster in the American League, so Renfroe's disappointing 2020 season was enough for him to lose his roster spot. He hit .156/.252/.393 in 139 plate appearances and is starting to look like a short-side platoon bat at this point. It's possible a rebuilding team gives him a chance to re-establish himself with more regular playing time in 2021.
Oct 1 2020Renfroe launched a grand slam in Wednesday's Game 2 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, but his lone hit off Hyun-Jin Ryu was a massive one. The Rays will face the Yankees in the AL Division Series that begins Monday,
Sep 17 2020Renfroe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and another run scored during Thursday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe extended Tampa Bay's lead in the second half of Thursday's twin bill with a solo shot off Bruce Zimmermann in the third inning. The 28-year-old slugger now has eight home runs and 21 RBI this season while averaging .163/.261/.442.
Sep 10 2020Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Thursday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe took Mike Kickham yard in the fourth inning to record his seventh home run of the season. He's had only sporadic production this season, but has homered in two consecutive contests. Overall, Renfroe has put together a disappointing .160/.234/.420 with 20 RBI and 15 runs scored across 111 plate appearances.
Sep 7 2020Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in an extra-inning win over the Marlins on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's fifth-inning, 330-foot laser to right snapped a 2-2 tie at the time, and it served as his first hit since Aug. 30 and first round tripper since Aug. 25. Except for the occasional homer -- he's now up to six on the season -- the 28-year-old offseason acquisition has largely been a disappointment in his first Rays campaign, as he carries a .155/.231/.392 slash line over 108 plate appearances. Renfroe has lowered his strikeout rate from his career-high 31.2 percent figure last season in San Diego to 24.1 percent, but even that notable improvement hasn't led to much success; thanks in part to a career-low 8.3 percent line-drive rate, the outfielder is saddled with an absurd .136 BABIP.
Aug 31 2020Renfroe went 1-for-5 with an RBI double, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Marlins on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's two-bagger, his fourth of August, gave the slugger a brief reprieve from the 2-for-25 skid he came into the game with. The veteran outfielder had entered the season with plenty of optimism regarding his ability to bounce back from an anemic .216 average and .289 on-base percentage last season in San Diego, but Renfroe is slashing .165/.234/.400 over his first 94 plate appearances of 2020. His 10 extra-base hits (five doubles, five home runs) and 18 RBI have given his fantasy managers occasional hope, but Renfroe's unusually low .153 BABIP is certainly playing a role in his struggles.
Aug 26 2020Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Manuel Margot in the second inning, giving Tyler Glasnow and the Tampa bullpen all the offense they would need on the night. Renfroe hadn't reached the seats since he launched a pair against the Red Sox on Aug. 13, and he's gone just 2-for-21 in the six games since. Brandon Lowe has taken over the bulk of the work in right field, leaving the struggling Renfroe on the short side of a platoon. On the season, the 28-year-old is slashing .171/.247/.421 with five homers and 17 RBI.
Aug 24 2020Renfroe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Lowe will draw the start in right field for the second straight game in which the Rays have faced a right-handed starting pitcher, suggesting that the struggling Renfroe may be fading into a short-side platoon role. Renfroe has gone 1-for-17 over his last last five starts to drop his season-long slash line to a lowly .167/.247/.389 across 81 plate appearances.
Aug 23 2020Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started in the Rays' previous three games and went hitless over 10 at-bats, dropping his season average to .167. The 28-year-old's slugging percentage is also down 100 points from 2019, potentially putting him at risk into settling into more of a part-time role rather than the larger side of a platoon. Brandon Lowe will spell Renfroe in right field Sunday, but Manuel Margot is probably the greatest threat to poach playing time from Renfroe.
Aug 19 2020Renfroe isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will take a seat for the third time in the past four games as he's slashing .194/.282/.452 with four home runs and 15 RBI to begin the season. Manuel Margot will start in right field.
Aug 18 2020Renfroe is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays will trot out seven left-handed hitters against righty Masahiro Tanaka. Brandon Lowe will move out to take Renfroe's usual spot in right field, with Joey Wendle starting at second base.
Aug 15 2020Renfroe isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went 0-for-3 with one RBI and one strikeout in Friday's series opener, and he'll play a bench role Saturday. Manuel Margot will start in right field, batting eighth.
Aug 13 2020Renfroe went 3-for-6 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored Thursday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was a big part of the Rays offensive onslaught against the Red Sox, contributing his third and fourth home runs of the season. The first was two-run shot in the third inning, followed by a solo long ball in the sixth frame. Prior to this effort, Renfroe had gone 12 games without a homer, recording just three extra-base hits in the at span. Overall, he's hitting just .200/.302/.491 across 63 plate appearances.
Aug 12 2020Renfroe is not starting Wednesday against the Red Sox, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brandon Lowe is covering right field in place of Renfroe on Wednesday, with Joey Wendle starting at the keystone. Through 16 games this season, Renfroe is 8-for-49 with two home runs and 11 RBI.
Aug 10 2020Renfroe isn't in the lineup Monday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went hitless over the past three games with one run, three walks and three strikeouts. With the 28-year-old sitting for the second time in the past five games, Manuel Margot will start in right field and bat seventh.
Aug 8 2020Renfroe isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe crossed the plate once in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, but he'll take a seat for the second contest. Austin Meadows will shift to right field with Jose Martinez entering the lineup as the designated hitter.
Aug 7 2020Renfroe is out of the lineup Friday against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe started the past 10 games but will head to the bench after going 7-for-34 with two home runs, two doubles and nine RBI during that stretch. Austin Meadows and Brandon Lowe will start in the corner outfield spots Friday for Tampa Bay.
Aug 5 2020Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's .189/.231/.405 season line continues to leave plenty to be desired, but the big outfielder is still tiding fantasy managers over with some very timely hits. Renfroe was at it again Tuesday, as his two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning erased an early 1-0 deficit. The 28-year-old's nine RBI are a co-team-high figure alongside Brandon Lowe's tally, and he's now hitting .400 (4-for-10) with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI with runners in scoring position.
Aug 1 2020Renfroe went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk in a loss to the Orioles on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's third-inning double brought home Willy Adames, giving the slugger his seventh RBI over the last three games. That tally actually constitutes Renfroe's season total overall, and he's still looking to capture his first hot streak of the campaign. The veteran outfielder has been putting plenty of good wood on the ball (44.4 percent hard contact), but he's been partly undone by a minuscule .188 BABIP that appears to at least partly stem from an unusually high 61.1 percent groundball rate.
Jul 27 2020Renfroe went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Monday's 14-5 rout of Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old blasted a three-run shot off Mike Foltynewicz in the fourth inning and then touched up Touki Toussaint for a solo shot in the fifth for his first homers in a Rays uniform. Renfroe has started three of four games so far, but he could become a fixture in right field despite Tampa's roster depth if his bat continues to heat up.
Jul 25 2020Renfroe isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe went 0-for-4 with a run, a walk and two strikeouts in Friday's season opener, and he'll play a bench role Saturday. Manuel Margot is starting in right field, batting sixth.
Jul 3 2020Renfroe, who trained at his home in Mississippi while spring training was shut down, was present and took batting practice during the Rays' first day of summer camp Friday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe had a full range of training amenities in his home, including a batting cage, so he was presumably able to remain in solid baseball shape during the multi-month shutdown. The slugger did obviously make it back in time to join his teammates at Tropicana Field, and he was able to get an immediate jump on working on his hitting under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.
May 25 2020Renfroe, who has been diligently working out at his home in Mississippi while spring training remains suspended, isn't likely to join the Rays immediately for the limited workouts that will begin at Tropicana Field on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has a full workout facility at his home, one that actually provides him access to a much more comprehensive array of equipment than some of his teammates will have at Tropicana Field. Because amenities such as the weight room and batting cages won't be immediately available due to ongoing COVID-19 precautions, Renfroe is one of the players the Rays have encouraged to stay put until and when there is more of an indication the owners and players' union are close to an agreement on the conditions for an abbreviated 2020 season.
Apr 13 2020Renfroe has a full workout facility in his Mississippi home that is allowing him to maintain a comprehensive workout regimen during the current shutdown, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Topkin reports the outfielder recently joined 95.3 WDAE-FM for an interview and confirmed his personal equipment includes a batting cage with a pitching machine, weights, a Peloton bike and a treadmill. That array of fitness tools offers Renfroe a chance to keep every aspect of his training up and running while spring training remains suspended. The extra batting practice may come in particularly handy for the slugger, who hit just .200 across 12 Grapefruit League contests.
Apr 10 2020Renfroe, who hit .200 (6-for-30) across 12 Grapefruit League games before spring training was suspended, projects to be in the regular lineup against left-handed starters this season, John Romano of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugging outfielder was generally sluggish at the plate this spring, but he's traditionally been successful versus left-handed pitching. Renfroe owns a career .269/.345/.579 slash line and .380 wOBA across 444 plate appearances versus southpaws, compared to a .221/.271/.459 line and .306 wOBA against righties. The disparity doesn't mean Renfroe won't log any at-bats versus right-handed pitching as well, but a spot in the lineup whenever a lefty is on the hill appears particularly secure.
Mar 13 2020Renfroe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a Grapefruit League loss to the Phillies on Thursday. He finished spring training hitting .200 (6-for-30), one double, Thursday's home run, three RBI, a walk and three runs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugging outfielder took Jake Arrieta deep to start the fourth inning. Renfroe began camp at full health after enduring multiple injuries last season, and even though he hasn't quite been able to parlay that into much success at the plate in exhibition play, he'll carry robust expectations heading into the delayed 2020 regular season.
Feb 18 2020Renfroe (foot) cleared the fence nearly a dozen times during Tuesday's batting practice, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The feat is notable for those looking for signs of how much pop a healthy Renfroe might be capable of providing this season. The slugging outfielder saw multiple lower-leg injuries rob him of a substantial amount of power in the second half of last season, but early indications are Renfroe is in as good a shape as he claimed to be coming into camp.
Feb 15 2020Renfroe (foot) says he feels fully recovered from the foot and ankle issues that have plagued him since last season, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. "Everything is good, everything is fixed," Renfroe said. "I was going to the physical therapist and stuff like that and strengthening the ankle and getting it back to 100 percent, and now it feels like I never even had surgery, so that's great." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The slugger, who was obtained in a December trade with the Padres that saw Tommy Pham head west, underwent three procedures over the last several months to address his myriad of lower-leg issues. Renfroe dealt with both a high ankle sprain and foot problems throughout 2019, with the issues exacerbating during the second half of the season after a strong start to the campaign. The 28-year-old still finished with a career-high 33 home runs, but 27 of those came prior to the All-Star break. Considering the drain on his power the injuries clearly had, it's certainly encouraging to hear Tampa's projected starting right fielder appears back to full health.
Jan 10 2020Renfroe (foot) and the Rays avoided arbitration with a one-year, $3.3 million deal Friday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe was picked up from the Padres in a December trade which sent Tommy Pham the opposite way. He hit a lopsided .216/.298/.489 with 33 homers in 140 games last season and should factor into the mix in the outfield corners in 2020, though the acquisitions of Yoshi Tsutsugo and Jose Martinez, who figure to spend time in the corners when not serving as the designated hitter, could cut into his at-bats. Renfroe underwent foot surgery in late September but is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
Dec 5 2019Renfroe was traded from San Diego along with Xavier Edwards in exchange for Tommy Pham on Thursday night, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe underwent foot surgery at the end of September, but he's expected to be ready to roll for Opening Day. He slashed .216/.298/.489 with 33 home runs and 64 home runs over 140 contests a season ago, showing he's a serious power threat at the dish. He could see time in both right and left field with Tampa Bay.
Sep 29 2019Renfroe is set to have minor foot surgery to remove a bone spur from the top of his right foot, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's surgery is expected to keep him out for about the first week of the team's offseason workout program but the left fielder should be a full-go after that period. It's uncertain how long Renfroe has been dealing with the injury. The 27-year-old dealt with other issues to his elbow and ankle during the season but was able to gut this foot injury out during the 2019 campaign. Renfroe will look to head into next season healthy and hungry for a turnaround year with a young Padres team.
Sep 27 2019Renfroe isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe will catch a breather after taking the collar in Thursday's series finale against the Dodgers (0-for-3). Josh Naylor gets the call in right field and is set to hit fifth.
Sep 25 2019Renfroe is not starting Wednesday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe is just 2-for-17 (.118) -- albeit with a pair of home runs -- in six games since returning from an ankle injury earlier in the month. He'll give way to Josh Naylor in right field in this one.
Sep 22 2019Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe launched a 421-foot shot to center field to put the Padres on the board in the fifth inning. The long ball was his second in 10 at-bats since returning from an ankle injury Sept. 17. Renfroe is unlikely to reach the 40-homer mark that once seemed inevitable after he went deep 27 times before the All-Star break, but he has nonetheless solidified his role as a power bat with a career-high 33 round trippers this season.
Sep 18 2019Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe made his return to the field after missing nine games with a sprained right ankle and plated the Padres' lone rune in the contest with a solo shot to left field in the seventh inning. The round tripper was his first in his last 47 at-bats dating back to Aug. 10. The 27-year-old leads San Diego with 32 homers this season but has hit only five long balls while batting .172 since the All-Star break.
Sep 17 2019Renfroe (ankle) is starting in right field and hitting fifth Tuesday against Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe had been held out of the starting lineup since Sept. 7 due to a right ankle sprain, but he's returned to full strength and draws the start in the second game of the series. He'd gotten off to a rough start to September prior to suffering the injury, going 1-for-11 with two walks and six strikeouts over five games.
Sep 16 2019Renfroe (ankle) is expected to be in the starting lineup against the Brewers on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe participated in batting practice and spent time running the bases and shagging fly balls Monday in preparation for his return. He has been available to pinch hit over the last three games but is expected to instead make his return in a starting role Tuesday. Renfroe has been out since Sept. 7 while nursing a sprained right ankle.
Sep 14 2019Renfroe (ankle) will not play this weekend but is nearing batting practice and could return next week, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has indicated that his ankle is improving and suggested that he may be ready to return on San Diego's current road trip. Although he won't play in Colorado this weekend, the door remains open for Renfroe to see action during the Padres' four-game series in Milwaukee beginning Monday. The 27-year-old has not played since Sept. 7.
Sep 12 2019Renfroe (ankle) indicated Thursday that he should be ready to play during the Padres' upcoming road trip, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe suggested that his sprained right ankle is improving, thus making possible a return on the team's upcoming seven-game road trip that begins Friday in Colorado. While Renfroe slugged 27 homers before the All-Star break, multiple ailments have limited him to four in the second half and none in his last 59 at-bats. The 27-year-old last started Sept. 4 and has not played since Sept. 7.
Sep 11 2019Renfroe (ankle) is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has been out since Sept. 7 and was hitting .091 with a 48.1 percent strikeout rate in 18 games prior to the injury. Manuel Margot starts in center field while Wil Myers starts in right field.
Sep 10 2019Renfroe has been battling an ankle issue, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The exact nature and severity of the issue are not yet clear. Renfroe's awful .364 OPS over his last 22 games gives the the Padres plenty of reason to bench him, though it's still a surprise to see him out of the lineup against lefty Jose Quintana and the Cubs on Tuesday. The ankle problem presumably partially explains his absence.
Sep 8 2019Renfroe is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the third straight game on the bench for Renfroe, who has an abysmal .364 OPS and 45.7 percent strikeout rate in his last 22 games. Josh Naylor receives another start in right field in his place.
Sep 7 2019Renfroe remains on the bench Saturday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe's .105/.235/.140 slash line over his last 21 contests could cause him to lose his starting job. Josh Naylor starts in right field for the second straight game Saturday.
Sep 6 2019Renfroe is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has gone 2-for-22 with 12 strikeouts over his last 10 games. Josh Naylor gets the nod in right field in his absence.
Sep 4 2019Renfroe went 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and a stolen base Tuesday in the Padres' 2-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Renfroe has been efficient on the basepaths on the rare occasions he's chosen to run, going 5-for-5 on steal attempts. The stolen-base production has been a nice boon for fantasy managers who roster Renfroe mainly for his power production, which is where most of his value comes from. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to build on his huge first half, smacking only four home runs in 45 games since the All-Star break.

Jul 23 2018Renfroe went a combined 3-for-8 with a double, an RBI and a run scored across Sunday's doubleheader against the Phillies.Manuel Margot (wrist) wasn't ready to return to action after getting injured Friday, allowing Renfroe to start both games of Sunday's twin bill. The 26-year-old has been relegated to a fourth-outfielder role of late, but he should continue to start until Margot is cleared for action. Renfroe is slashing .245/.317/.451 with seven homers in 60 games this season.
Jul 15 2018Renfroe went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Cubs.Renfroe took left-hander Randy Rosario deep in a pinch-hit at-bat in the seventh inning for this sixth home run of the season. The Padres' outfield has crowded since the return of Wil Myers, which has caused Renfroe to lose everyday playing time. He hasn't done much to help his cause to remain in the lineup, as he has hit just .241/.312/.441 through 170 at-bats this season.
Jul 15 2018Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Cubs.Renfroe cracked the starting lineup thanks to southpaw Jon Lester taking the mound, but he took right-hander Pedro Strop deep for his seventh home run of the season. While he has two home runs in his past two games, he has only three other hits in his last 25 at-bats. He has been ceding at-bats to Travis Jankowski when the Padres face righties, putting him on the short-side of a platoon and limiting his playing time.
Jul 8 2018Renfroe is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.Renfroe is 2-for-12 with five strikeouts over the first three games of the series, but will head to the bench for the finale after starting six of the last seven games overall. Travis Jankowski will get the call in right field in his stead.
Jul 1 2018Renfroe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI Sunday against the Pirates.Renfroe doubled in the third inning to drive in his first run of the game and followed that up with a solo shot in the fifth inning. He now has five home runs and 14 doubles on the season, adding up to a .472 slugging percentage. The Padres' outfield remains crowded, and Renfroe has often been the odd man due to his struggles against right-handed pitching -- he has just a .393 slugging percentage against them in 89 at-bats this season.
Jun 26 2018Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a double and his first stolen base of the season in Monday's loss to Texas.Renfroe has contributed six hits while starting three consecutive games for the Friars. The 26-year-old's brief hot streak upped his slash line to .254/.331/.452 through 42 games, but his inability to hit righties (.225 compared to .304 versus southpaws) has left the slugger on the short side of a platoon with Travis Jankowski. The latter has been sidelined with a hamstring injury over the past two games, but he is being considered day-to-day. Until Renfroe can prove that he can handle same-handed pitchers, his playing time will remain inconsistent when the rest of the outfield is at full strength.
Jun 23 2018Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Giants. The homer was his first since June 3 and just his fourth of the season through 40 games. Renfroe's power stroke hasn't fully returned since his lengthy absence due to an elbow injury earlier in the year, and until it does his .237/.316/.441 slash line makes him an unappealing option in most fantasy formats.
Jun 19 2018Renfroe is not in the lineup Tuesday against Oakland.Renfroe sits after starting three in a row and seven of the last eight. Since coming off the disabled list May 28, he's hitting .273/.355/.436 in 18 games. Franmil Reyes starts in right field Tuesday.
Jun 17 2018Renfroe will start in right field and bat cleanup Sunday against the Braves. With Renfroe making his 11th start in 13 games Sunday, it appears he has moved ahead of Franmil Reyes -- who has started eight times over that same span -- on the depth chart in right field. The 26-year-old has maintained a .850 OPS since returning from the disabled list in late May and should be in store for a full-time role so long as he continues to hold his own against right-handed pitching. After righties limited him to a .202/.244/.393 batting line (66 wRC+) in 2017, Renfroe has upped his slash line to .239/.301/.448 (107 wRC+) in those matchups this season.
Jun 16 2018Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in Friday's win over the Braves.Renfroe put the Padres in the lead with a two-run single in the seventh, coming around to score on a Freddy Galvis home run. Renfroe had gone hitless over his last three games, so Friday's two-hit night was a welcome sight. Since coming off the disabled list, the 26-year-old has one home run, 10 RBI and nine runs in 16 games. Last year Renfroe hit .231 with 26 home runs and 58 RBI in 122 games.
Jun 10 2018Renfroe will start in right field and hit cleanup Sunday against the Marlins.Despite only an ugly .222/.264/.435 (84 wRC+) career line against right-handers, Renfroe will get the starting nod over Franmil Reyes in the series finale against Marlins righty Jose Urena. It's the third time in four games against right-handed pitching that Renfroe has been included in the lineup, a sign that manager Andy Green is willing to let the 26-year-old prove he's deserving of a full-time role. Renfroe didn't make much of an impact in those prior two matchups against righties, going a combined 2-for-9 with a double in those contests.
Jun 3 2018Renfroe had a pinch-hit grand slam in his only at-bat to help the Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Reds on Sunday.Renfroe didn't start this contest, but he made his presence felt in his only at-bat, launching a mammoth grand slam in pinch-hit duties in the fifth inning off Reds starter Luis Castillo. He only has 64 at-bats on the year after spending time on the disabled list with an elbow injury, but the numbers over that small sample size look good, as he's slashing .266/.342/.531. With Renfroe, the issue is always his splits, as the 26-year-old has a 1.027 career OPS against left-handed pitching that falls all the way to .689 against righties, making him one of the more matchup-dependent hitters out there until he shows sustained signs of evening out those numbers.
Jun 1 2018Renfroe started in left field and went 2-for-3 with a double, a pair of walks, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's victory over the Marlins.Renfroe has started just two games (both against southpaws) since returning from the disabled list May 28, indicating that he is on the short side of a platoon in left field with Travis Jankowski. This shouldn't come as a big surprise, considering the slugger's struggles against righties in his young career (.219/.262/.427 in 412 at-bats compared to .302/.376/.651 in 170 at-bats versus lefties).
May 28 2018Renfroe (elbow) was reinstated from the disabled list and is starting in left field and batting fourth Monday against the Marlins.Franchy Cordero (forearm strain) was placed on the DL as a corresponding move, so Renfroe should get plenty of at-bats in the short term while Wil Myers (oblique) is still on the disabled list. Renfroe hit just .220/.256/.390 during his rehab assignment at Triple-A after hitting .200/.281/.440 in the big leagues, so expectations shouldn't be too high for the 26-year-old slugger.
May 27 2018Renfroe (elbow) will be reinstated from the disabled list Monday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Renfroe began a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on May 17, and he's returned to health after suffering from elbow inflammation. In 19 games this season, Renfroe is hitting .200 with two home runs and eight RBI. He figures to help out in center field with Franchy Cordero headed to the 10-day disabled list.
May 17 2018Renfroe (elbow) will begin on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.Renfroe has been on the DL since mid-April due to elbow inflammation but was able to appear in a few simulated games at extended spring training over the past two weeks. He will likely play a couple contests in the minors before being reinstated, though his role with the Padres is unclear with Franchy Cordero manning left field and the recent call-up of outfielder Franmil Reyes.
May 14 2018Padres manager Andy Green suggested Saturday that Renfroe (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment at some point this week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.Renfroe has been playing in simulated games at extended spring training for the past week and a half and resumed working in the outfield last Wednesday. With the Padres apparently satisfied with how Renfroe has looked in those contests, the 26-year-old should soon be ready to test his health in a more uncontrolled setting at a minor-league affiliate. Prior to hitting the 10-day disabled list April 21, Renfroe had been a staple in the San Diego lineup against lefty pitching, but his role with the big club will be less clear once he's healthy again. Rookie Franchy Cordero has made a compelling case for full-time duty in the outfield, while right-handed power hitter Franmil Reyes will join the Padres on Monday and could render Renfroe expendable, given their overlapping skill sets.
May 1 2018Renfroe (elbow) began a stay at the Padres' spring training complex Monday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Renfroe has been out since April 21 with elbow inflammation. He'll resume baseball activities at the complex in Arizona and then well get in some extended spring games before moving on to an official rehab assignment. He's eligible to return from the disabled list already but it doesn't sound as though his return is imminent.
Apr 21 2018Renfroe was placed on the 10-day disabled list with elbow inflammation Saturday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Renfroe had been playing through serious pain for the last few days. He's hitting just .200 through his first 17 games, though he does at least have two home runs. Manuel Margot was activated from the disabled list to take his spot on the roster.
Apr 15 2018Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and one run scored Saturday against the Giants.Renfroe provided the game-winning runs for the Padres with a two-run home run in the seventh inning off right-hander Cory Gearrin. This home run was his second of the season off right-handed pitching, a positive sign as he had shown a relative inability to hit right-handed pitching entering the season. While Wil Myers has been out of the lineup, Renfroe has gotten a number of at-bats in the cleanup spot and batted third tonight with Eric Hosmer also out of the lineup.
Apr 10 2018Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in San Diego's 5-2 win over Colorado on Tuesday.Renfroe finally broke through his first long ball of the year with the seventh-inning blast off Bryan Shaw to help the Padres to the victory. It's still been a dismal start for the 26-year-old coming off his 26-homer campaign of last year and he's slashing just .188/.257/.375 over 32 at-bats on the season even with the homer now in the books.
Apr 9 2018Renfroe is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Rockies, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Renfroe had started four straight games in right field after Wil Myers (arm) landed on the disabled list. Jose Pirela will slide over to right Monday, with Cory Spangenberg taking Pirela's spot in left. It's a shame for Renfroe's owners that they won't get to take advantage of his power in Coors Field on Monday, though he remains the primary right fielder until Myers returns, so he'll likely get the chance to play Tuesday and Wednesday in Denver.
Apr 4 2018Renfroe started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rockies. While Wil Myers' triceps injury opened up a spot in the outfield for Renfroe, manager Andy Green likely would have found a way to somehow make room for Renfroe against Rockies southpaw Kyle Freeland after the 26-year-old terrorized left-handed pitching to the tune of a .316/.392/.684 line last season. Renfroe should make for an appealing DFS option nearly any time a lefty is on the hill, but he'll likely see his overall percentages suffer if he's exposed to more right-handed pitching in the event Myers misses additional action.
Apr 3 2018Renfroe would be a logical choice to replace Wil Myers (triceps) until the outfielder returns to the field. The slugging outfielder loss the battle to be the Friars' starting left fielder this spring to Jose Pirela, but Myers' back and triceps injuries could open up a window of regular playing time for Renfroe in right field. The 26-year-old posted dramatic splits last season (.316/.392/.684 versus southpaws and .202/.244/.393 versus righties), but he could still be a cheap source of power if Myers is forced to miss extended time.
Mar 4 2018Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI in Saturday's spring win over the Athletics.Renfroe -- who struggled against righties as an everyday player in 2017 -- runs the risk of falling on the short side of a platoon in left field with the acquisition of Eric Hosmer pushing Wil Myers into a crowded situation in the outfield, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old slugger has been working on drills specifically designed to improve his approach against righties, and Saturday's homer off of the right-handed Emilio Pagan is a good start. Renfroe destroyed southpaws to the tune of a .316 batting average and 11 long balls in just 114 at-bats, so he will have to build off this performance and prove that he can handle righties at an acceptable level this spring if he wants to maintain an everyday role. Falling into a platoon with any of the Padres' other left field options would nullify his fantasy value almost completely.
Feb 18 2018Renfroe will have to compete for an everyday role in the corner outfield in spring training after the Padres agreed Saturday with free agent Eric Hosmer on an eight-year contract, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. With Hosmer penciled in for regular at-bats at first base, Wil Myers, the Padres' top slugger, is expected to primarily play the corner outfield for the first time since the 2015 season. Myers will work out mostly as a right fielder Sunday, so it appears playing time in left field is up for grabs for Renfroe and a number of other players, including Jose Pirela, Franchy Cordero and Alex Dickerson (back). Renfroe offers more power upside than any of those players, but his struggles against right-handed pitching to this point in his career -- he owns a .216/.253/.423 line over 375 plate appearances -- may put him at risk of settling for short-side platoon duty.
Oct 2 2017Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Giants. It was an up-and-down campaign for the 25-year-old rookie. The slugger flashed his tremendous power potential (26 homers and a .236 isolated power rating), but it didn't come without flaws (.231 batting average and 29.2 percent strikeout rate). Renfroe's raw power should keep him relevant in fantasy circles with a regular role next season.
Sep 27 2017Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-2 loss to the Dodgers. He's ending the season on a high note, homering five times in the last seven games since his latest recall from the minors. Renfroe's also struck out eight times in those seven games, however, and improving his contact and strikeout rates will be paramount in 2018 if he's going to take full advantage of his power potential.
Sep 24 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.Renfroe went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during Saturday's win and will be stationed on the bench Sunday for the second time in the past three games. Travis Jankowski will man right field in his stead.
Sep 22 2017Renfroe is out of the lineup against the Rockies on Friday.Renfroe heads to the bench after starting the past four contests since his promotion, including a 3-for-5 day with three home runs during Wednesday's game against Arizona. In his place, Travis Jankowski draws the start in right, while batting eighth in the order.
Sep 21 2017Renfroe put his power on display Wednesday, going 3-for-5 with a trio of home runs and four RBI in a loss to Arizona. The normally pitcher-friendly Petco Park turned into Coors Field for a night with nine balls leaving the yard -- Renfroe delivered a third of them. The 25-year-old's power outburst helped him tie a Padres' rookie record with 24 homers on the season. Renfroe's .234 batting average and 28.6 percent K rate have limited his value as a whole, but with four homers and seven RBI in three games since being called up, he may end up being an MVP for his owners in the fantasy playoffs.
Sep 19 2017Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Monday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.Renfroe was immediately inserted into the starting lineup after getting called up to the majors, and he responded with his 21st homer of the season in his first plate appearance. Jabari Blash (undisclosed) and Matt Szczur have done next to nothing in his absence, so the rookie should receive the lion's share of starts in right field as the Padres play out the string. Renfroe may have figured things out in the minors, as evidenced by his eye-opening .509/.557/.891 triple-slash during his 14-game stint with Triple-A El Paso. Fantasy owners who are still playing for something may want to take a flyer on the 25-year-old for some late-season power.
Sep 18 2017Renfroe was recalled from Triple-A El Paso and is starting in right field Monday against the Diamondbacks.Renfroe is back with the Padres after tearing up Triple-A over the last month, slashing .509/.557/.891 with four homers, 18 RBI and a 7:6 K:BB across 55 at-bats. The 25-year-old struggled with the big club before his demotion, batting just .230 and striking out 28.7 percent of the time, but the Padres are hoping his time with El Paso helped him work the kinks out. With Jabari Blash sidelined with an undisclosed injury, Renfroe will immediately slide back into he starting lineup, batting fifth.
Aug 19 2017Renfroe was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. For the most part, Renfroe has struggled at the plate this season; hitting 20 homers but posting a .230 batting average and striking out an unsightly 28.7 percent of the time, essentially making him a one-category asset. He'll head back to the minors for the time being to straighten himself out and hopefully cut down on his strikeouts, but he should be back with the Padres when rosters expand in September. Jabari Blash was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move, and he will likely take over starting duties in right field while Renfroe is in the minors.
Aug 18 2017Renfroe is not in Friday's lineup against the Nationals.Renfroe will head to the bench following a trio of starts this week, as Cory Spangenberg draws the assignment in right for Friday's affair. Outside of a two-hit game against Philadelphia on Wednesday, Renfroe has been scuffling a bit at the plate, hitting just .152/.243/.212 since Aug. 7.
Aug 14 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.Renfroe is just 1-for-9 with six strikeouts over his last two starts, so he'll get the day off to gather himself. Matt Szczur is starting in right field for him, batting seventh.
Aug 8 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup for Wednesday's matchup against Cincinnati, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. After two consecutive two-hit games coming into the series against the Reds, Renfroe went hitless in the opener and will now take a seat for Wednesday's game. Jose Pirela will take his spot in right field and is third in the batting order.
Jul 28 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup Friday against the Pirates.Renfroe snapped his modest four-game hit streak Thursday, so he'll head to the bench for a night off. Jabari Blash will man right field in his stead.
Jul 26 2017Renfroe went 1-for-4 with his 20th homer of the season against the Mets on Tuesday. The rookie deserves plaudits for the first of what will likely be many 20-homer campaigns, but that's been the only area in which he's been helping fantasy owners. With relatively modest totals in RBI (44) and runs (40) as well as a .232 batting average and only three steals, Renfroe has essentially been a one-category asset, which limits his value to deeper formats. Nonetheless, the future is bright, especially if the 25-year-old outfielder can cut down on his strikeouts.
Jul 24 2017Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Mets.Renfroe was the lone bright spot in a lineup that was otherwise dominated by right-hander Jacob deGrom. The 13th overall pick in the 2013 draft should be a mainstay in the heart of San Diego's order for years to come, as he has already produced 23 home runs in his first 101 major league games. You should expect nothing less from a player with the initials H.R.
Jul 22 2017Renfroe is out of the lineup Saturday against the Giants.Renfroe has gone just 2-for-10 in two games since returning from the DL with a neck injury, so he'll get the day off following Friday's extra-inning win. Jabari Blash, who is hitting .440 this month while making a serious push for more playing time, takes over in right field.
Jul 20 2017Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Thursday's win over San Francisco. After missing seven games because of a neck injury, Renfroe showed no lingering signs of the ailment Thursday. At this stage of his career, the 25-year-old outfielder is a low-end fantasy asset in most settings, but he owns tremendous power upside, and he's already up to 17 homers this season. It's probably wise not to bank on much improvement to his .231/.287/.456 slash line moving forward, though.
Jul 20 2017Renfroe (neck) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Thursday. As expected, Renfroe will return from injury to fill the void left now that Manuel Margot is on the paternity list. Renfroe has been a three-true-outcome hitter this season, but he'll likely continue to get opportunities to hit as the regular right fielder moving forward, which will likely push Jabari Blash back to the bench.
Jul 17 2017Renfroe (neck) took batting practice Monday and is expected to return from the disabled list Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. It looks like Renfroe will only have to spend the minimum amount of time on the disabled list after suffering a neck injury in early June. The 25-year-old has shown good power in his first full season in the majors with 16 home runs, but has struggled with 95 strikeouts. The Padres right fielder is slashing .231/.287/.449 in 316 at-bats this season.
Jul 14 2017Renfroe (neck) was placed on the 10-day DL prior to Friday's game against the Giants, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Renfroe was removed from Saturday's game with a neck injury, and wasn't able to fully recover over the All-Star break. The 25-year-old will spend some time on the disabled list, but barring any setbacks, he should be ready to return once he's eligible before the series against the Mets. In his place, Matt Szczur is likely going to see an expanded role in right field during his absence, while Jabari Blash joins the team from Triple-A El Paso.
Jul 9 2017Renfroe (neck) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, Bob Scanlan of Fox Sports San Diego reports. As expected, Renfroe will be held out of the Padres' first-half finale after injuring his neck in Saturday's contest. He'll get four free days of rest over the All-Star break to get healthy in advance of Friday's opener with the Giants. Matt Szczur will log a start in right field in his stead.
Jul 9 2017Renfroe (neck) is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. He is out of Sunday's lineup, nursing a stiff neck. Renfroe is slashing .253/.322/.468 with three home runs and a 27.6 percent strikeout rate over his last 79 at-bats, and is worth a pickup for power-hungry owners in 15-team mixed leagues.
Jul 8 2017Renfroe's neck locked up Saturday on a seventh-inning swing that led to a double, and he's doubtful to play Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. The outfielder was removed shortly afterward and probably has played his last action of this season's first half. Renfroe likely will have to wait until Friday, the first day of action after the All-Star break, to build on an up-and-down campaign in which he's launched an impressive 16 home runs but also slashed .230/.287/.447 over 338 plate appearances.
Jul 2 2017Renfroe was perfect at the plate Sunday, going 4-for-4 with a double in a 5-3 win over the Dodgers.Surprisingly, the rookie outfielder didn't record a single counting stat despite recording four hits as the Padres' cleanup hitter. Renfroe has been hot over his last four contests, going 9-for-16 with four extra-base hits over that span. Sunday's four-hit performance only lifted the slugger's batting average to .236, but his 16 home runs give him deep-league value with potential for more if he can continue to improve his approach at the plate.
Jun 29 2017Renfroe went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Braves. The free-swinging outfielder had been taking a more conservative approach at the plate recently (five walks over last six games), and adjustment at the plate paid off in a big way Thursday. Renfroe remains a liability in the batting average department (.225), but his 16 homers give him deep-league value.
Jun 29 2017Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Braves. The 25-year-old has been mired in a June slump, batting .176 over 85 at-bats. Renfroe has kept his power pace going during the month-long slump (five homers), bringing him up to 15 on the year as a whole. A big part of the rookie's lengthy cold stretch has been a reversion to an impatient approach at the plate, needing 20 games to garner his first first walk of the month. With five walks over his last six games, Renfroe appears to be making an effort to deliver quality at-bats.
Jun 16 2017Renfroe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers. The two teams combined for seven homers on a warm night at Miller Park, and Renfroe took advantage of the favorable conditions to hammer his 15th long ball of the year. He's hitting only .238 (10-for-42) over his last 10 games, but five of those hits have left the yard.
Jun 14 2017Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Reds.Renfroe hit a game-tying two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth, crushing an Amir Garrett offering 430 feet. He added a third RBI with a groundout in the seventh, though it was disappointing as the bases were loaded. Renfroe's 14 home runs rank third in the majors among rookies, while his 32 RBI ranks sixth.
Jun 11 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.Renfroe was originally scheduled to get the day off Saturday but was ultimately added to the lineup after Wil Myers was scratched with flu-like symptoms. The 25-year-old will receive the breather Sunday with Matt Szczur taking over in right field.
Jun 10 2017Renfroe was added to the lineup after Wil Myers was scratched due to illness Saturday.Renfroe was set to earn his first day off this month, but will be thrust into the starting lineup with Myers unable to play. The Padres place Renfroe in his normal spot in right, with Jose Pirela moving over to first base and Allen Cordoba taking left.
Jun 10 2017Renfroe is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals, Bill Center of padres.com reports. This marks the first day off for Renfroe since May 26 as Allen Cordoba mans right field while batting seventh Saturday. Renfroe is currently enjoying a five-game hitting streak and batting .237/.290/.469 with 13 home runs and 30 RBI this season. Expect him back in the lineup for Sunday's affair.
Jun 7 2017Renfroe accounted for the entirety of the Padres' offensive production in Tuesday's 10-2 loss to the Diamondbacks by hitting a pair of solo homers in four at-bats.He also struck out two more times, but Renfroe nonetheless continued what's been a lengthy streak of elite production. Over the last 14 games, the rookie right fielder has hit .320/.370/.720 with five homers, 11 RBI and a steal. His strikeout rate is still high, so it'll be tough for Renfroe to hit for great average, but he also isn't likely to settle in at his current .232 season mark.
Jun 4 2017Renfroe drove in San Diego's only run and went for 1-for-3 during the Padres' 3-1 loss to the Rockies.Renfroe was hitless in his last three games before heading into this one, but he now has 27 RBI on the season after Sunday. Although he plays on the lowly Padres, expect Renfroe to see action essentially every day, mostly in right field, and to hit somewhere in the middle of the order.
May 30 2017Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a grand slam in Monday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.Renfroe's 10th home run of the year and second grand slam of his career was all the Friars would need in this one. The young outfield prospect has hits in seven of his last eight games, including two home runs. His poor plate discipline (53 strikeouts, 16 walks in 205 plate appearances) will hinder his development in the short term, but Renfroe certainly has intriguing pop in most fantasy formats.
May 26 2017Renfroe is not in the lineup Friday against the Nationals.Renfroe has been one of the Friars' hottest hitters as of late, but he'll head to the bench for his first off day since May 7. Matt Szczur will take over in right field to replace him.
May 24 2017Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Mets. The rookie has been red-hot over the last 12 games, slashing .300/.429/.675 with nine extra-base hits and nine RBI over that span. The marked difference during his recent hot stretch has been a newfound patient approach at the plate (nine walks over his last 12 games), which has led to better at-bats and overall results. Renfroe's recent hot stretch warrants consideration in most fantasy formats in the event he has turned a corner following a slow start to the season.
May 18 2017Renfroe is batting fifth and playing right field Thursday. The 25-year-old hadn't hit fifth since May 4 but gets the boost during the matinee contest. Renfroe is hitting only .182 against right-handed pitching but has five of his seven home runs against them, so matching up with the Brewers' Zach Davies (5.80 ERA) should pay off. Daily fantasy players should not hesitate to plug Renfroe into lineups.
May 18 2017Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a home run in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee. The rookie smashed a line drive homer into the seats in left field, his eighth tater of the season. The 24-year-old right fielder has struggled this season to the tune of a .214/.271/.416 slash line, but has shown considerable power as he's now second in the National League in home runs among rookies. Look for the average to rise as he gains more experience at the major league level.
May 16 2017Renfroe went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI, including a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in Monday's 6-5 win over the Brewers. The heroic home run was Renfroe's seventh of the season and second in as many days. He had been slumping for much of the season but has recorded two dingers and seven RBI in the last two games to raise his season slash line to .217/.273/.406. It appears that his newfound patience at the plate is starting to pay off, and fantasy owners shouldn't ignore it.
May 14 2017Renfroe busted out of his slump in a big way Sunday, going 1-for-2 and smashing a three-run home run in a loss to the White Sox.With a .209 batting average on the season, it is no secret that Renfroe has been struggling at the plate. The rookie has been making adjustments of late, showing more plate discipline over his last four contests (six walks) than he had in 34 games prior (four walks). A more patient approach could lead to future success for the 25-year-old, as opposing pitchers may be more reluctant to simply throw him junk balls. Renfroe is definitely worth monitoring in leagues where he is available in the event that his recent changes result in improved performances.
