Sep 14 2021Anderson underwent surgery to repair his left shoulder capsule Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson will now officially miss the rest of the season after undergoing the procedure, though he's expected to be healthy in time for spring training in February. The 28-year-old had a down season while dealing with multiple injuries and finished with a .249/.337/.378 slash line in 67 games.
Sep 10 2021Anderson will undergo shoulder surgery next week, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson has been sideliend since late August with a left shoulder subluxation. Previous reports indicated that he would likely miss the remainder of the season, and that appears to be locked in now with the news that he'll require surgery. Isan Diaz has served as the primary third baseman in his absence.
Sep 3 2021Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson has been dealing with shoulder discomfort since Tuesday, and he recently underwent an MRI that revealed left shoulder subluxation, the same injury that forced him to miss two month earlier in the year. As a result, the 28-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Isan Diaz and Joe Panik should share duties at third base in Anderson's absence.
Sep 2 2021Anderson is considered day-to-day due to shoulder discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson is slated to miss a second consecutive game Thursday, and manager Don Mattingly revealed the third baseman is dealing with shoulder discomfort after diving for a ball Tuesday. It's not yet clear whether the 28-year-old will return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Phillies.
Aug 31 2021Anderson is out of the lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson went 2-for-4 in the resumption of the suspended contest Tuesday afternoon, and he'll take a seat for the regularly scheduled game. Isan Diaz will start at the hot corner in his place.
Aug 26 2021Anderson went 1-for-2 with three walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead by coming around on a Jorge Alfaro single in the second inning and then taking Josiah Gray deep in the sixth for his seventh homer of the season. Anderson's big on-base performance came out of the blue, as he hadn't drawn multiple walks in a game since May 21, and through 21 contests in August he's slashing a sluggish .183/.284/.310.
Aug 22 2021Anderson is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI on Saturday, raising his average to .182 with seven RBI in the last 10 games. Isan Diaz is playing third base and batting sixth Sunday.
Aug 18 2021Anderson isn't starting Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson will get a breather after he went 1-for-11 with a strikeout across the last three games. Isan Diaz will take his place at the hot corner and bat sixth.
Aug 15 2021Anderson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson's sixth long ball of the season came with two outs in the sixth inning and allowed the Marlins to overcome a 1-0 deficit. The third baseman will carry a four-game hitting streak into Sunday's series finale and will bat fifth for Miami.
Aug 6 2021Anderson is out of the lineup Friday against the Rockies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson started the past three games and will take a seat while mired in a 2-for-15 slump. Isan Diaz will start at the hot corner Friday in his place.
Aug 2 2021Anderson isn't starting Monday's game against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson snapped a six-game hit streak in Sunday's loss to the Yankees, and he'll retreat to the bench for the first time since he returned from the injured list July 24. Isan Diaz will start at the hot corner and bat fifth.
Jul 28 2021Anderson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson missed two months with a dislocated left shoulder but returned to action over the weekend, and he's quickly found his power stroke with long balls in Sunday's and Tuesday's contests. The 28-year-old had a .687 OPS in 35 games prior to the injury, but he's 5-for-12 with two homers, two walks and an additional run in three games since being activated from the injured list Saturday.
Jul 24 2021Anderson (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list before Saturday's game against the Padres, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third baseman, having been sidelined since May 24 with a dislocated left shoulder, returns to the Marlins on his first day of eligibility. Before the injury, Anderson hit .250 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 12 walks in 36 games. The Marlins have yet to announce whom they're removing from the 40-man roster to clear a space for Anderson.
Jul 16 2021Anderson (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson has been out since late May with a left shoulder subluxation. The long absence means he's in line for a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, especially as he's been placed on the 60-day injured list and is ineligible to return before July 25.
Jul 13 2021Anderson's injured left shoulder has responded well to baseball activities, but the Marlins have yet to set a date for him to begin a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. "He's been hitting on the field, he's been taking ground balls," manager Don Mattingly said Saturday, when asked about Anderson. "He's actually swinging right at this very second. And we haven't went backwards." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mattingly added that he believes Anderson will have a chance to return from the 60-day injured list when first eligible July 25, but that will hinge on the third baseman completing a multi-game rehab assignment without issue. Before being shut down in late May with a left shoulder subluxation, Anderson was batting .250 with three home runs and three stolen bases through 36 games.
Jun 29 2021Anderson (shoulder) has been participating in defensive drills and taking soft toss, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson taking soft is the first word of the third baseman taking swings since landing on the injured list with left shoulder subluxation in late May. Anderson won't be eligible to come off the 60-day IL until July 27, but he could potentially go on a rehab assignment earlier in July.
Jun 14 2021Anderson (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move comes shortly after it was revealed the 28-year-old has yet to resume hitting as previously expected, and he now won't be able to be activated until at least late July. Anderson landed on the shelf May 25 with a left shoulder subluxation and will end up missing two months dues to the injury, at minimum. Isan Diaz should continue operating as Miami's third baseman in the meantime.
Jun 8 2021Anderson (shoulder) is moving well and preparing to start a hitting progression, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old likely remains at least a couple weeks from returning as he recovers from left shoulder subluxation. It's unclear whether Anderson will require a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, but the Marlins eagerly await the return of his bat to their struggling lineup.
May 25 2021GM Kim Ng said Tuesday that Anderson (shoulder) will be sidelined for at least the next several weeks, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old landed on the injured list earlier Tuesday with a left shoulder subluxation, and he'll end up being sidelined well beyond the 10-day minimum. Anderson can safely be ruled out into mid-June, though it's possible he misses more time. Jon Berti and Isan Diaz are the likely candidates to see reps at third base in the meantime.
May 24 2021Anderson was removed from Monday's game against the Phillies due to left shoulder soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The initial prognosis appears promising for the third baseman, but he's likely headed for further evaluation to determine his status moving forward. Jon Berti and Jose Devers could time at the hot corner if Anderson is forced to miss extended time.
May 22 2021Anderson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third baseman is heating up at the plate. Anderson extended his hitting streak to six games with this performance, and he's hitting .283 (17-for-60) in May with two homers, three steals, six RBI and eight runs.
May 20 2021Anderson went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-0 win over Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third baseman drew his first walk of the game in the second inning. He then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but he was left on base. Anderson has recorded two of his three stolen bases this year in the last four games. The 28-year-old sports a .221/.279/.345 slash line with three home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored through 122 plate appearances.
May 19 2021Anderson went 1-for-4 with a home run in Wednesday's win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson is only hitting .216 with a meager .605 OPS this season, but he made his presence felt with his third homer of the campaign. The third baseman seems to be turning things around following a slow start to the season and has hit safely in five of his last six contests.
May 12 2021Anderson is not starting Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third baseman receives his second day off since returning from the injured list May 4. Anderson has gone 6-for-26 with four RBI since then and is now hitting just .209 on the season. Jon Berti is manning third base and batting fifth.
May 7 2021Anderson is out of the lineup Friday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson returned from the injured list Tuesday and started the past three games, and he'll head to the bench Friday after going 3-for-10 with a home run, a walk, four RBI and three runs. Jon Berti will take over at third base for the Marlins in the series opener versus Milwaukee.
May 4 2021Anderson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed the prior 11 games with an oblique strain, but Anderson got the ball rolling for the Marlins' offense by taking Riley Smith deep in the first inning. The third baseman has had a slow start to the season even aside from the injury, batting .206 with two homers and eight RBI through 18 games.
May 2 2021Manager Don Mattingly expects Anderson (oblique) to return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old was eligible to be activated during the weekend series against the Nationals, but he'll end up spending a little more than the 10-day minimum on the shelf. Anderson was off to a slow start before the injury with a .200/.262/.300 slash line, one home run, five RBI and three runs in 17 games.
Apr 28 2021Anderson (oblique) is expected to return to the lineup around when he is first eligible, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Saturday is the earliest possible date for Anderson's activation from the IL, but with the Marlins getting an off day Monday, a more cautious approach would see him back on the field Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old has had a sluggish start at the plate, slashing .200/.262/.300 with one homer and five RBI through 17 games.
Apr 26 2021Anderson (oblique) resumed light baseball activities Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson will be eligible to return from the injured list Saturday. The Marlins have yet to confirm that he's expected to do so, but he's progressing well and isn't expected to miss too much time.
Apr 22 2021Anderson will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson was held out of Wednesday's lineup with side soreness, though it was reported that his condition did not improve as expected Thursday. As a result, he'll be placed on the 10-day injured list. Jon Berti should pick up playing time at third base in Anderson's absence.
Apr 21 2021Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday that Anderson is "a little nicked up" with a side issue, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Several position players for the Marlins are dealing with injuries, so Mattingly elected to hold Anderson out of the lineup Wednesday to help preserve his long-term health. The injury doesn't sound like a significant concern, but it's not yet clear whether Anderson will return to action for Thursday's series opener against San Francisco.
Apr 14 2021Anderson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 14-8 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson finally rewarded fantasy managers for their patience with Tuesday's performance. The 27-year-old had been struggling early on with just five hits in his first 30 at-bats but shook off the rust with a three-hit performance including his first home run of the season. It's an encouraging sign to see him finally liven up at the plate, but fantasy managers should continue to take a cautious approach with installing him into their lineups until he can prove that Tuesday's hitting clinic wasn't just a one-game effort.
Apr 3 2021Anderson will sit Saturday against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson started both of the first two games of the season at third base, going 1-for-7 at the plate. He'll hit the bench Saturday despite the fact that the Rays will start the game with the left-handed Rich Hill on the mound. Jon Berti makes his first start of the year in his absence.
Mar 21 2021Anderson has gone 9-for-31 (.290) through 12 Grapefruit League games with a double, a home run and a 0:14 BB:K. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old saw his strikeout rate rise to 28.8 percent last season, but Anderson's 45.0 percent rate this spring is something else entirely. There's little reason to put much stock in the small spring sample, as Anderson has wielded a consistent bat for the Marlins the last two years, slashing .259/.343/.467 with 31 homers and 104 RBI in 185 games. He still has time in camp to find his timing at the plate.
Jan 15 2021Anderson and the Marlins agreed to a one-year, $3.8 million contract Friday, avoiding arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson helped the Marlins to their third ever postseason appearance last season, hitting a solid .255/.345/.465 with 11 homers. The 27-year-old hasn't shown signs that he's about to break out and become a true star hitter, but he should remain a key piece for a Marlins team that's looking to earn consecutive playoff berths for the first time.
Sep 26 2020Anderson isn't starting Saturday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson went 0-for-4 with one run and one walk in Friday's win as Miami clinched a spot in the postseason. Jon Berti will shift to third base Saturday with Jazz Chisholm starting at second.
Sep 24 2020Anderson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored during Wednesday's loss to the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson mirrored Jesus Aguilar with a solo shot of his own as the two combined to hit back-to-back home runs off Max Fried to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead in the first. The 27-year-old would reach base twice more and cross home plate a second time on a Lewis Brinson single in the fourth. Anderson is having a solid season in which he's hitting .267/.355/.476 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI across 214 plate appearances.
Sep 18 2020Anderson went 3-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBI during Friday's win in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson turned things around in a major way after going hitless in three at-bats during Friday's matinee. The third baseman had home runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to power the Marlins to a blowout win. He now carries a .857 OPS with nine home runs and 34 RBI this year.
Sep 14 2020Anderson is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson is hitting a strong .386/.481/.500 in the month of September. He'll hit the bench for Monday's afternoon contest, with Miguel Rojas sliding to third base and Jazz Chisholm starting at shortstop.
Sep 13 2020Anderson went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Saturday in a 12-6 loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson got the Marlins on the board in the third with a three-run homer. It was the 27-year-old's first long ball since Aug. 31 and his sixth of the season. He is hitting .273/.374/.453 with 24 RBI.
Sep 7 2020Anderson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Braves, Andre Fernandez of Sirius XM Radio reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be taking a seat for the first time in 2020, ending a streak of 35 straight starts to begin the season. Despite the steady at-bats, Anderson's .740 OPS is 70 points below his mark from 2019, with the downturn mostly the result of a massive uptick in his strikeout rate. Anderson has struck out in 32.1 percent of his plate appearances this season, nearly 10 percentage points above his career rate (22.2 percent).
Aug 31 2020Anderson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson entered Monday in a slump at the plate, striking five times while failing to record a hit in his last 11 at-bats. Although he struck out twice more Monday, the third baseman belted a solo homer off Brad Brach to extend Miami's lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning. Anderson now has five long balls on the campaign and will look to improve upon a .222/.330/.424 slash line going forward.
Aug 12 2020Anderson went 1-for-6 with a three-run home run Wednesday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson took Nate Pearson deep in the first inning, getting the Marlins out to an early lead. He struggled the rest of the game, however, whiffing in four of his next five at-bats. That pushed his strikeout rate to 31 percent for the season, though Anderson has still managed to hit .286/.288/.619 with four home runs, eight runs scored and 13 RBI across 49 plate appearances.
Aug 7 2020Anderson went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson plated two runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, and he later drove in another run with an RBI triple in the seventh. Anderson has been one of Miami's biggest offensive threats to start the season, and he has reached base in all eight games he's played so far.
Aug 6 2020Anderson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old then followed it up with an RBI single in the second game -- with both hits proving to be game-winners in a couple of narrow victories. Anderson has had a solid start to 2020 despite the Marlins' COVID-19 woes, going 5-for-19 through six games with two homers and five RBI.
Jul 28 2020Anderson and the rest of his teammates won't play again for the rest of the week due to the team's COVID-19 outbreak, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Roughly half of the Marlins' roster has tested positive for the virus. It's not clear whether or not Anderson is part of that group, but all of the team's games through Sunday have been postponed, so he won't be taking the field even if healthy. Miami's next scheduled game is set for Tuesday against the Phillies.
Jul 26 2020Anderson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored against the Phillies on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson took Reggie McClain deep in the fifth inning, a big blow in the Marlins 11-run offensive performance. Anderson has started the season well, reaching base three times Saturday prior to his power production Sunday. He'll have the opportunity to build on these performances with a friendly matchup against the Orioles next on the schedule.
Mar 6 2020Anderson has consistently hit second in the Marlins' early spring contests, a likely indication of the regular-season batting order, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jonathan Villar has been in the leadoff spot, with Corey Dickerson and Jesus Aguilar slotting in behind Anderson. The 26-year-old posted career highs with 20 homers, 66 RBI and an .810 OPS last season, and he could be poised for even better numbers if he maintains a premium spot in the batting order.
Feb 26 2020Anderson (hand) will start at third base and bat second in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson exited early in Monday's contest against the Cardinals after being struck on the hand by a pitch, but he was fortunate to escape without any structural damage. After taking Tuesday off while waiting for the soreness to subside, Anderson is ready to reclaim his usual spot in the field and batting order.
Feb 24 2020Anderson said he's fine after being hit by a pitch on the left hand, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson was struck by a Ryan Helsley fastball during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, but thanks to a protective pad he was able to avoid a more serious injury. While the 26-year-old may miss a couple of games as a result, the issue shouldn't affect his buildup for the start of the season.
Feb 23 2020Anderson (finger) is starting at third base and batting second in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old missed the final seven weeks of the 2019 campaign after suffering a broken finger on his left hand from a hit-by-pitch, but he's unsurprisingly good to go for spring training. Anderson appeared in 126 games last season and had a .261/.342/.468 slash line with 20 home runs, and he should be a fixture near the top of the lineup for the Marlins in 2020.
Nov 1 2019Anderson (finger) was activated from the injured list Friday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move doesn't necessarily mean Anderson is healthy, as players can't be on the injured list over the offseason. Still, Anderson should be ready by spring training given that he avoided surgery on the fractured finger he suffered in late August.
Sep 3 2019Anderson was placed on the 60-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Anderson has already been shut down for the season after fracturing a finger on his left hand, so this move simply clears up a roster spot.
Aug 27 2019After visiting a specialist, it's been determined that Anderson will not require surgery on his left hand, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
Aug 23 2019Anderson suffered a broken finger in his left hand after being hit by a pitch during Friday's game agianst the Phillies, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio reports.
Aug 21 2019Anderson went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk Tuesday in the Marlins' 5-1 loss to the Braves.
Aug 15 2019Anderson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Dodgers.
Aug 8 2019Anderson went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI during Thursday's 9-2 win over the Braves.
Aug 6 2019Anderson went 4-for-7 with three doubles and three runs scored across both games of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Aug 1 2019Anderson went 1-for-4 with a grand slam Wednesday in the Marlins' 7-4 loss to the Twins.

Jul 24 2018Anderson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over Atlanta.Anderson also reached base via a hit by pitch to help break out of a 1-for-15 slump over the last four games prior to Tuesday. The 25-year-old has a .285/.365/.419 slash line with eight home runs and 49 RBI in 102 games this season.
Jul 15 2018Anderson went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 10-5 win over Philadelphia.Anderson blasted a three-run home run in the fifth inning to cut Miami's deficit to one, pushing his RBI total on the season to 49. He's recorded a hit in eight of his past 10 games heading into the break, and he's batting .288 with 34 extra-base hits through 97 games in the first half.
Jul 7 2018Anderson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.Anderson has started all 90 games so far in 2018, but will take a seat Saturday as he is slashing only .162/.279/.351 over the last 10 games. The 25-year-old has a .284 average and .774 OPS and leads the Marlins with 44 RBI in 2018.
Jul 5 2018Anderson went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's loss to the Nationals.Anderson was a major part of Miami's offensive onslaught Thursday, cracking his 22nd double of the year and adding a three-run shot in the eighth inning. He had been struggling mightily of late, carrying a .179/.273/.282 slash line over his last ten games entering Thursday, but this could be the start of a turnaround at the dish for Anderson.
Jun 30 2018Anderson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Mets. His sixth-inning shot off Jacob deGrom got the Marlins on the board, giving Anderson five homers on the season to go along with a .292/.367/.416 slash line. While he offers limited power, his hit tool and consistent playing time still provide the 25-year-old with a solid floor for fantasy value in deeper formats.
Jun 20 2018Anderson went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.Anderson came through with an RBI single in the ninth inning as the Marlins mounted a late rally, but he was left stranded on second as the tying run to end the game. The 25-year-old is hitting .333 in June and leads the Marlins in both RBI (36) and runs scored (41).
Jun 12 2018Anderson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Giants. It's only his fourth homer of the year but second in the last seven games, and Anderson now boasts a massive .436/.488/.769 slash line through 10 contests in June with six runs and eight RBI. The 25-year-old is blossoming into a genuine offensive threat for the Marlins.
Jun 9 2018Anderson went 3-for-5 with a double in Friday's 4-0 win over the Padres. The 25-year-old remains locked in at the plate, hitting safely in 14 of his last 16 games with a stellar .391/.443/.563 slash line over that stretch. Anderson doesn't do much other than collect base hits, though -- he has one homer, nine RBI and nine runs over his hot streak, and three homers and 30 RBI in 63 games on the season despite a .304/.377/.426 performance.
Jun 6 2018Anderson went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.Anderson's third homer of the year was a two-run shot in the fifth inning, and he also drove in a third run earlier in the tilt after legging out an infield single. The 25-year-old has reeled off three straight multi-hit games and has also done so in six of the last eight. Boosted by this latest stretch, Anderson is slashing .298/.371/.418 and figures to continue hitting in the heart of the Miami lineup.
May 19 2018Anderson went 2-for-4 in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Braves. It's his third multi-hit performance in his last five games, although it speaks to the weak lineup around him that Anderson has only two runs and two RBI to show for it during that stretch. He now sports a respectable .273/.355/.382 slash line on the season, and he'll likely continue to hit in the heart of the Marlins' order given manager Don Mattingly's lack of better options.
May 15 2018Anderson (finger) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Anderson exited Sunday's game with a sore finger. The issue was evidently a minor one, as he won't end up missing a single start.
May 13 2018Anderson exited in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Braves due to a sore finger on his right hand, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. He finished the day 1-for-3 with his 10th double of the season.Anderson relayed afterwards that he hurt the finger while flying out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but he remained in the game defensively for another inning before giving way to J.B. Shuck. X-rays after the contest came back negative for Anderson, so he'll hopeful that the soreness will subside enough for him to return to the lineup for Miami's next game Tuesday against the Dodgers.
May 13 2018Anderson (undisclosed) was removed from Sunday's game against the Braves prior to the eighth inning, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Anderson was 1-for-3 with a double before being replaced in the outfield prior to the eighth inning. The reason for his early departure hasn't been announced, but Frisaro notes that Anderson has been sporting a wrap on his left hand after games recently.
May 8 2018Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.It was Anderson's second extra-base hit in as many games, and he's now hitting .345 (10-for-29) over his last eight games. With the latest hot stretch, the 24-year-old is slashing .268/.367/.378 to go along with 18 RBI.
May 1 2018Anderson went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Monday's win over the Phillies. The homer was his second of the season. The 24-year-old's now gone 5-for-16 since getting bumped out of the starting spot at third base by the return of Martin Prado, but manager Don Mattingly continues to give Anderson regular playing time in right field. He doesn't have a lot of home run upside, but his 16 RBI in 28 games leads the Marlins.
Apr 27 2018Anderson is batting fourth and playing right field Friday against the Rockies, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports. The Marlins alluded to a potential position switch for Anderson once Martin Prado returned, and with the veteran officially back in action Friday, Anderson will get his first start in right field. It's unclear if he'll play consistently, though his current six-game hit streak certainly helps his case to play regularly.
Apr 26 2018Anderson could see time in right field and at first base once Martin Prado (knee) comes off the disabled list, Doug Padilla of MLB.com reports. "We'll mix [Anderson] in with some outfield and maybe some first [base], and find ways to get both in the lineup," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday.Mattingly seems to prefer using Prado at third base, suggesting he'd get at least one day off a week as the regular starter at the hot corner, which could make it tough for Anderson to see regular playing time as the Marlins already have a player in Derek Dietrich who can fill the third base/first base/corner outfield utility role. It remains to be seen exactly how Mattingly's lineups will shake out once Prado is back, but Anderson being stuck as a platoon partner for Dietrich and Justin Bour isn't out of the question, which would put a significant damper on his fantasy value.
Apr 24 2018Anderson went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Dodgers. He's now picked up five hits in his last four games to break out of a mid-April slump, leaving Anderson with a .256/.389/.359 slash line on the season. The 24-year-old was hitting in the cleanup spot Monday as manager Don Mattingly continues to tinker with his lineup, but that show of confidence from his skipper is a good sign for Anderson given that Martin Prado (knee) is getting very close to coming off the disabled list.
Apr 20 2018Anderson went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Thursday's loss to the Brewers. The young third baseman is now 2-for-24 over the last week, dropping his slash line on the season to a weak .231/.367/.338. Anderson's 11:11 BB:K through 18 games remains strong, and his .264 BABIP is likely due for at least a mild rebound, but with Martin Prado (knee) having begun a rehab assignment Thursday and getting close to a return to action, the timing on Anderson's slump could not have been worse. The rebuilding Marlins will likely stick with the 24-year-old at the hot corner even after Prado's activation from the disabled list, but if Anderson's struggles continue through next week, a demotion to Triple-A to try and regain some confidence at the plate -- and open up a roster spot for Prado -- isn't out of the question.
Apr 11 2018Anderson went 2-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Mets. The 24-year-old continues to bang out base hits, and Anderson now has a robust .317/.462/.488 slash line through 11 games with one home run, eight runs and nine RBI. He's also shown a dramatically better approach at the plate, posting a 17.3 percent walk rate and 11.5 percent strikeout rate so far after managing 10.5 percent and 29.5 percent marks in 25 games during his big-league debut in 2017. The sample size is of course very small, but if he can maintain even a portion of those improvements, he could prove to be a surprisingly useful fantasy asset.
Apr 8 2018Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and one run scored Sunday against the Phillies.Anderson continued his impressive start to the campaign, recording his third multi-RBI game of the season Sunday. Despite the small sample, it is worth noting he has done the majority of his damage against left-handed pitching, posting a .643 slugging percentage against them to this point as opposed to just a .278 against right-handed pitching. That continued Sunday, as he doubled against left-hander Adam Morgan. To begin the season, Anderson has 14 at-bats against left-handed pitching and only 18 against right-handers, so if his splits continue his numbers will fall as he faces more right-handed pitching.
Apr 3 2018Anderson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox.Although the homer was his first of the season, Anderson's collected at least one hit in all five Marlins games so far, going 7-for-21 with six RBI. The young third baseman is quickly dispelling any notion of Martin Prado (knee) challenging him for the starting job at the hot corner when the veteran comes off the disabled list.
Apr 2 2018Anderson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and three RBI in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Cubs. The young third baseman hit cleanup for the Marlins with Justin Bour getting the day off, and he's earned the assignment -- Anderson has gone 6-for-18 with five RBI in the first four games of 2018. The double was his first extra-base hit, though, and despite his hot start, he'll need to show more power to get on the radar in shallower fantasy formats.
Mar 30 2018Anderson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Cubs. Not much went right for the Marlins on Opening Day, but Anderson's performance was a rare bright spot. There are questions about the 24-year-old's ultimate fantasy upside given that his stroke seems more geared to line drives than homers, which likely restricts his utility to deep mixed and NL-only formats, but the rebuilding franchise will give Anderson every chance to prove himself in 2018.
Mar 29 2018Anderson will start at third base and bat fifth in Thursday's season opener against the Cubs, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports. It became apparent Anderson would break camp as the Marlins' primary third baseman once Martin Prado (knee) incurred a setback in mid-March that ultimately resulted in the veteran opening the season on the disabled list. Prado is tentatively in line to rejoin the Marlins around mid-April, but his ability to play the corner outfield could allow Anderson to hang on to an everyday role if the 24-year-old's performance warrants it. Anderson doesn't offer much power from the corner infield, but he displayed a solid hit tool throughout his minor-league career and during his brief time with the Marlins last season, which could allow him to maintain a serviceable batting average.
Mar 14 2018Marlins manager Don Mattingly confirmed Wednesday that Anderson would open the season as the team's everyday third baseman after Martin Prado (knee) suffered a setback that will result in the veteran heading to the disabled list, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Prior to experienced renewed soreness in the back of his surgically repaired right knee during a workout Tuesday, Prado hadn't appeared in any Grapefruit League games and was always facing an uphill battle to be ready for Opening Day. Prado's setback should at least give Anderson a little more leash in the full-time role, which the 24-year-old may have been able to earn outright in any case due to his strong performance at the dish in spring training. Anderson has maintained a .400 on-base percentage through 14 Grapefruit League appearances and has notched five extra-base hits, including two home runs. Fantasy owners throwing a late-round dart on Anderson shouldn't expect much in terms of power, but the youngster offers a solid batting-average floor due to his line-drive tendencies and could be a better-than-expected source of runs if his on-base skills earn him a spot in the top half of the order.
Mar 12 2018Anderson went 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees. It's his second homer and third double of the spring, giving Anderson a robust .640 SLG through 13 games, but perhaps more impressive has been his 7:5 BB:K after he struck out 29.5 percent of the time in his big-league debut last year. Martin Prado (knee) is still expected to be healthy by Opening Day, but the veteran may have to settle for a bench role with the 24-year-old Anderson making a strong case for the starting job at third base.
Mar 3 2018Anderson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. He's got only two hits in his first 11 spring at-bats, but both have gone for extra bases, with Friday's homer being his first of the year. Anderson will need a big camp, or for Martin Prado (knee) to remain on the shelf, to win the Opening Day starting job at third base, but once Prado proves he's healthy he could well join the veteran exodus out of Miami. Either way, the 24-year-old Anderson figures to be the future at the hot corner for the Marlins.
Feb 21 2018Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said that Anderson remains behind Martin Prado (knee) at third base heading into this spring, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.Even though Prado is recovering from a late-July scope of his right knee, Hill stated that Anderson is "behind Prado for now" and will not move over to second base. At this point, Prado is expected to return to action around the middle of March, which would give him a few weeks to get back into the swing of things before Opening Day. Obviously in the event that he's unable to get healthy, Anderson will take over the starting gig at the beginning of the season. Furthermore, Anderson could change the organization's opinion with a solid spring camp. This is a situation to monitor throughout the Grapefruit League, and either way, Anderson should receive plenty of at-bats in 2018 as the Marlins head into a new era.
Oct 1 2017Anderson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored in the Marlins' 10-2 rout of the Braves on Saturday. The top prospect continues to thrive in an everyday role for Miami, as he now holds a .275/.352/.388 slash line in 24 games this season. Anderson certainly has proven his worth, but with Martin Prado (knee) likely manning the hot corner again in 2018, the 24-year-old will have to make quite the case during spring training if he wants to carve out a role in the big leagues at the start of next season.
Sep 28 2017Anderson is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Braves, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.Anderson will stick on the bench for a second straight game as Derek Dietrich draws another start at the hot corner in his place. The 24-year-old has held his own in his first major-league stint, slashing .268/.346/.366 in 21 games while serving as the Marlins' primary third baseman over the past few weeks.
Sep 27 2017Anderson is not in the lineup against Colorado on Wednesday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.Anderson heads to the bench after going 1-for-3 during Tuesday's loss as Derek Dietrich takes his place at third base. Over the course of his 20 games with the big-league club, Anderson is slashing .261/.342/.348 with five extra-base hits and six RBI.
Sep 25 2017Anderson is out of the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.Since the start of September, Anderson has been operating as Miami's primary third baseman. Since the start of the month he's hit .258/.342/.348. Strikeouts have been a challenge for him, as he's struck out 20 times over 75 plate appearances. He'll sit out Monday while Derek Dietrich heads to the hot corner.
Sep 17 2017Anderson is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Anderson has been operating as the Marlins' primary third baseman over the past couple of weeks, but he'll be stationed on the bench for the second consecutive day as the Marlins close out their home-away-from-home series against the Brewers. Derek Dietrich will take over at third base and bat sixth in his stead.
Sep 4 2017Anderson will start at third base and bat seventh Monday against the Nationals, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.Derek Dietrich had been seeing most of the starts at third base in August, but the Marlins have been using him as a roving infielder so far in September, opening up a fourth consecutive start for Anderson at the hot corner. Anderson has held his own with a .385 on-base percentage in the previous three contests, and could continue to see at least semi-regular work throughout the final month of the season if he keeps it up at the plate.
Sep 1 2017Anderson was called up by the Marlins on Friday, and will be starting at third base against the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.Anderson will make his major-league debut at third base, just a month and a half since earning a promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville. During his time with the Triple-A club, Anderson slashed .339/.416/.602 with eight home runs and 26 RBI. The 24-year-old is one of the top prospects in the Marlins system, and looks to get a decent amount of opportunities on the field over the next month with Miami.
Jul 15 2017Anderson was moved up to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday.Anderson has impressed all season for Double-A Jacksonville, hitting .251/.341/.450 with 14 home runs and 55 RBI through 87 games. He stole the show in front of Miami fans at the All-Star Futures Game last Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a double during Team USA's win. The 24-year-old will make his first trip to Triple-A, and could be a viable candidate to join the big-league team at some point next season if he continues to improve.
Jul 9 2017Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 7-6 win for Team USA in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game.Getting the start at DH before shifting to third base to close out the game, the Marlins' No. 10 prospect made a good impression on his possible future hometown fans in Miami. The 24-year-old Anderson has a .254/.343/.454 slash line in 83 games for Double-A Jacksonville but has already set a new career high with 14 home runs.
