Mar 23 2024Mancini opted out of his minor-league contract with the Marlins on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini's decision suggests he was not going to make Miami's Opening Day roster, so he will now try his luck on the open market. Mancini slashed .234/.299/.336 with 28 RBI across 261 plate appearances with the Cubs last season and may still be able to find a big-league opportunity with a team in search of 1B/OF depth.
Jan 24 2024Mancini signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini slashed just .234/.299/.336 with four home runs over 263 plate appearances with the Cubs last season and was even worse than that (.622 OPS) in the second half of 2022 with the Astros. Still, a modest rebound in what will be his age-32 campaign in 2024 is possible, and he should make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Aug 30 2023The Reds released Mancini on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After reaching agreement with the Reds on a minor-league deal last week, Mancini hit .316 with two home runs in just five games at Triple-A Louisville before being handed his walking papers. The Reds may not have intended to promote Mancini to the big leagues when the active roster expands from 26 to 28 men Friday, so the 31-year-old will now be given the opportunity to find work elsewhere. Mancini had posted a .635 OPS in 261 plate appearances with the Cubs this season before being released earlier this month.
Aug 23 2023Mancini signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was dropped by the Cubs at the start of August after putting up a .234/.299/.336 slash line through 261 plate appearances. The 31-year-old will now serve as organizational depth for the Reds and could work his way back into a major-league bench role if his bat heats up in Triple-A.
Aug 3 2023Mancini was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was designated for assignment Tuesday and predictably passed through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old inked a two-year, $14 million contract with the Cubs over the winter but struggled to a .234/.299/.336 batting line with only four home runs in 79 games. Chicago is still on the hook for his $7 million salary in 2024.
Aug 1 2023Mancini was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Jeimer Candelario, who was acquired from the Nationals on Monday and will officially join the Cubs ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Reds. Mancini, 31, had slashed just .234/.299/.336 with four home runs through 263 plate appearances this season for Chicago. He is owed $7 million in 2024 and will almost certainly pass through waivers unclaimed.
Jul 26 2023Mancini is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Cody Bellinger is starting at first base and Christopher Morel will serve as the Cubs' designated hitter as they face off against right-hander Lance Lynn. Mancini has doubled in each of his last two games but holds an overall .243/.296/.329 batting line in 154 plate appearances this year against right-handed pitching.
Jul 22 2023Mancini will sit Saturday against St. Louis, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has been in and out of the Cubs' lineup throughout the regular season, with his .237/.301/.339 slash line failing to earn him a regular role. He recently started six straight games but has since found himself on the bench for two in a row, with Cody Bellinger starting at first base on both occasions.
Jul 20 2023Mancini will start at first base and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Cubs having seemingly pulled the plug on Jared Young as their primary first baseman, Mancini has been the main beneficiary from a playing-time perspective. Cody Bellinger has moved from the outfield to take over as the Cubs' main option at first base, while Mike Tauchman has settled back into center field after a brief run as Chicago's primary designated hitter. The DH spot has now reopened for Mancini, though he'll play defense Thursday while the lefty-hitting Tauchman gets a day off versus southpaw Steven Matz. Mancini will be picking up his sixth consecutive start.
Jul 9 2023Mancini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini started each of the last two games at first base but will head to the bench Sunday, with Jared Young getting the start. Young started off quickly but has fallen into a slump more recently, so Mancini could earn a larger share of playing time after the All-Star break. The veteran is batting .239 with a .652 OPS across 68 games.
Jul 2 2023Mancini went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini no longer has to contend with Matt Mervis on the MLB roster for playing time, though Jared Young is now getting a look at first. The latter started there Sunday, with Mancini slotting in as the DH. That should allow the veteran to still see frequent playing time, though the Cubs figure to rotate several players in as the DH moving forward. Mancini isn't particularly splashy, though he is batting an even .300 over his last 10 games, giving him some fantasy appeal when he's in the lineup.
Jun 19 2023Mancini is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will remain on the bench for a third straight game Monday. Cody Bellinger will make a third consecutive start at first base and has seemingly jumped Mancini as the Cubs' primary first baseman moving forward.
Jun 18 2023Mancini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old will sit for the second straight contest and for the third time in four games since Cody Bellinger was reinstated from the injured list Thursday. The demotion of Matt Mervis likely means Mancini will continue seeing regular starts at first base, but Bellinger could mix in there more often with Mike Tauchman playing well enough to warrant receiving reps in center field.
Jun 17 2023Mancini isn't in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After reaching base in all four of his plate appearances Friday, Mancini will catch a day off Saturday. Cody Bellinger will serve as the Cubs' first baseman in Mancini's place, allowing Mike Tauchman to start in center field and bat in the leadoff spot.
Jun 16 2023Mancini went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two runs scored in Friday's 10-3 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini started his career in Baltimore and spent his first six seasons there before being traded to Houston last year. The slugger appeared locked in from the start versus his former team and reached safely four times for the first time this season. It was also the first time Mancini had recorded multiple extra-base hits in a game and third time he worked multiple walks. Mancini has fallen into a platoon at first base and isn't receiving regular at-bats, but it'll be difficult to keep him out of the lineup if he continues to deliver like he did Friday.
Jun 4 2023Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini got the start with Matt Mervis hitting the bench against San Diego southpaw Ryan Weathers. The veteran responded with his fourth home run of the season, and while he should still see some time against lefties moving forward, his fantasy production may be sporadic on the short side of a platoon.
May 29 2023Mancini is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After sitting out four consecutive games from last Sunday through Wednesday, Mancini returned to the lineup as either the Cubs' designated hitter or starting first baseman for all three of the team's games with Cincinnati this past weekend. Mancini went 0-for-6 over the first two contests, but he salvaged his series with a 2-for-3 effort to go with a walk in Sunday's 8-5 loss. Even so, Mancini is still maintaining a pedestrian .683 OPS for the season, and he looks like he could be stuck in more of a part-time role until his bat heats up and he warrants more playing time.
May 24 2023Mancini remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is on the bench versus a right-handed pitcher (Kodai Senga) for the third consecutive game and may have lost hold of a regular spot in the Chicago lineup. He'll cede his spot as the Cubs' designated hitter to the hot-hitting Christopher Morel, who draws another start after slugging a home run in his fifth consecutive game in Tuesday's 7-2 win.
May 23 2023Mancini is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The hot-hitting Christopher Morel will fill the DH role and bat fifth versus the Mets and right-hander Tylor Megill. Matt Mervis is playing first base and batting ninth.
May 21 2023Mancini is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will head to the bench after he went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a walk over the first two games of the series. Christopher Morel will draw the start at designated hitter and bat sixth in the series finale with Philadelphia.
May 14 2023Mancini is starting at designated hitter and batting sixth in Sunday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini sat out Saturday's contest, with Eric Hosmer getting the nod at DH. Both veterans have largely been displaced from first base with the arrival of top prospect Matt Mervis. That leaves Mancini in a timeshare for at-bats, so he'll have to produce when given the opportunity if he wants to have any key impact offensively.
May 13 2023Mancini will not start Saturday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini owns an .892 OPS in his last 20 games after struggling to a .470 OPS in his first 14 games as a Cub. The recent arrival of Matt Mervis is cutting into his playing time despite his uptick in results, however. In the eight games Mervis has been with the team, Mancini has started four times at designated hitter an once at first base. Eric Hosmer has seen an even bigger hit to his playing time, as his appearance as the designated hitter Saturday is just his third start since Mervis joined the team.
May 7 2023Mancini is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini went 2-for-7 with a double and a walk in the first two games of the series, but he'll head to the bench for Sunday's finale. Eric Hosmer will serve as the designated hitter while prospect Matt Mervis, who was promoted from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, receives his third straight start at first base.
May 4 2023With top prospect Matt Mervis expected to get called up from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.com, Mancini could be in danger of losing playing time. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mervis is expected to see regular action at first base, where he could push out Eric Hosmer, but the former is also expected to serve as the designated hitter often. That would cut into Mancini's playing time. The veteran has a .695 OPS across 27 games while Mervis has a stellar .924 OPS at Triple-A, so the youngster would seem to be an upgrade over Hosmer, who has a .657 OPS, and Mancini.
Apr 30 2023Mancini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the series finale beginning at 12:05 p.m. ET, Mancini will get a chance to rest for the matinee after he started in each of the Cubs' last five contests. Edwin Rios will replace Mancini as the Cubs' designated hitter.
Apr 4 2023Mancini went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 12-5 win over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini only had the one hit, but he also contributed two sacrifice flies, so he still finished with a productive night. He only has four hits through 19 at-bats so far, though the veteran should be able to push his batting average upward. Mancini was the DH on Tuesday, and he figures to see most of his time there moving forward.
Mar 6 2023Mancini went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Notably, Mancini started this game in right field, where he could play some in the early going with Seiya Suzuki (oblique) unlikely to be ready for the start of the regular season. Mancini has a strong .538 batting average so far this spring, and he could have decent fantasy appeal as an everyday player for the Cubs this year, with his playing time coming in right, as well as at first base and DH.
Mar 2 2023Mancini is an option to play some in right field with Seiya Suzuki (oblique) questionable for the start of the regular season, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is primarily a first baseman and will likely get some starts as the DH, but the Cubs could try him in right field part of the time as well. The veteran logged 86 innings in right last season and was a plus defender there. No matter where he plays, Mancini should get plenty of at-bats in 2023 for a Chicago team looking to boost its offense.
Feb 26 2023Mancini went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini looked good in his first game with the Cubs. The veteran was brought over in the offseason to likely fill the DH role most days, though he could also see some time at first base. Mancini had a down year with a career-worst .710 OPS in 2022, but he still hit 18 home runs to go along with 63 RBI.
Jan 23 2023Mancini will not play for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini believes that it will be better for him to spend that time with his new organization rather than participate in the WBC. The 30-year-old was signed to a two-year, $14 million contract with the Cubs after declining a $10 million option with the Astros after the season. He's expected to see plenty of playing time at first base and designated hitter while he's with Chicago.
Jan 14 2023Mancini agreed to a two-year deal with the Cubs on Saturday which includes an opt-out clause after the first season, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Rogers, Mancini is likely to see time at first base and designated hitter for the Cubs. A longtime Oriole, Mancini was traded to the Astros last year and struggled to the tune of a .176/.258/.364 line following the trade, resulting in Houston declining his $10 million option for 2023. Mancini, who turns 31 in March, is a career .265/.330/.457 hitter in the major leagues.
Nov 9 2022The Astros declined their $10 million mutual option on Mancini's contract for 2023 on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Considering that Mancini wasn't an everyday player during the Astros' run to the World Series and hit just .176 to close out the regular season after coming over in a trade with the Orioles on Aug. 1, Houston's decision to move on from him isn't a major surprise. The 30-year-old's solid track record prior to arriving in Houston should give him a good chance at resurfacing elsewhere in 2023 as a regular starter at either first or designated hitter.
Nov 2 2022Mancini is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 4 of the World Series matchup with the Phillies, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has now been excluded from the starting nine of the third game in a row and appears to have lost hold of his regular spot in the lineup. Aledmys Diaz will man left field while Yordan Alvarez handles designated-hitter duties in Game 4.
Oct 31 2022Mancini is not in the lineup for Game 3 of the World Series against the Phillies, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has acted as a liability at the plate all postseason for Houston, remaining hitless through 16 at-bats. His struggles will move him to the bench and allow David Hensley to fill in as the Astros' designated hitter Monday, batting seventh.
Oct 29 2022Mancini will be on the bench for Game 2 of the World Series against the Phillies, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is struggling significantly at the plate this postseason, going hitless in 16 at-bats. Aledmys Diaz will take his place in the lineup, starting in left field and pushing Yordan Alvarez to the designated hitter spot.
Oct 20 2022Mancini is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the ALCS versus the Yankees on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old sat for the series opener Wednesday and didn't make an appearance off the bench, and he won't join the lineup for Game 2. Mancini appeared in 51 games for Houston this season after being acquired at the trade deadline and posted a .622 OPS with eight home runs and 22 RBI. Aledmys Diaz will receive another start in left field while Yordan Alvarez serves as the designated hitter.
Oct 19 2022Mancini is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 1 of the Astros' American League Championship Series matchup with the Yankees, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through Houston's first four postseason contests, Mancini and Aledmys Diaz have now made two starts apiece as the Astros' designated hitter. Neither of the two has done much to create separation in the job battle, as Mancini and Diaz have combined to go 1-for-13 thus far in the playoffs.
Oct 13 2022Mancini is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Houston's ALDS matchup with Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini went hitless in four Game 1 at-bats, so manager Dusty Baker decided to hold him out Thursday and go with Aledmys Diaz as the designated hitter.
Oct 4 2022Mancini is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini continues to scuffle with his new team, hitting .129 with two doubles over his last 10 games. Aledmys Diaz draws the start in left field, batting seventh.
Oct 1 2022Mancini isn't starting Saturday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will get a day off after he went 1-for-10 with a double, a run, an RBI, two walks and a strikeout over his last three games. Yordan Alvarez is serving as the designated hitter while Aledmys Diaz starts in left field.
Sep 25 2022Mancini is not in Sunday's lineup against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will sit for back-to-back games after starting in 10 straight. Mauricio Dubon will start in left field with Yordan Alvarez getting the nod at designated hitter.
Sep 24 2022Mancini isn't starting Saturday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is resting after he went 0-for-10 with three strikeouts over the last three games. Yordan Alvarez will serve as the designated hitter and bat third.
Sep 13 2022Mancini is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Aledmys Diaz (groin) was activated after missing four weeks, which introduces another competent hitter who can steal time from Mancini in left field, at first base and at designated hitter. Mancini is hitting .172 with a .368 OBP and one home run in his last 10 games.
Sep 11 2022Mancini went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer in Sunday's victory over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was selective at the dish Sunday as he walked three times and homered on a full count. His home run in the fifth inning, his 17th on the season, was a three-run blast which extended the Astros' lead to five. Since joining the Astros on Aug. 2, Mancini is batting .206 (21-for-102) with seven home runs, 20 RBI and 14 runs scored.
Sep 9 2022Mancini is starting Friday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An initial lineup listed by the Astros didn't have Mancini in the starting nine, but he'll ultimately start at first base and bat sixth. Over six games since the start of September, he's gone 3-for-18 with a double, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
Aug 26 2022Mancini went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 6-3 victory over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini capped a big first inning for Houston with his blast to left field off Chris Archer. It marked his second straight game with a long ball, and he's gone deep six times in 18 contests since joining the Astros in an early-August trade. Mancini also has 16 RBI with his new club.
Aug 25 2022Mancini went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini homered for the 15th time this season and for the fifth time as a member of the Astros. Immediately after being traded from Baltimore, Mancini received regular days off. However, he's now started six of the team's last seven games, but he has maintained only a .217 average with a 29.2 percent strikeout rate in that span.
Aug 24 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Tuesday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini tallied his first multi-hit performance in his last six starts, with his primary production coming on an RBI double in the fourth inning. Mancini has had a mixed profile since joining the Astros, as he's racked up seven runs scored and 11 RBI across 16 games. However, he's also struck out a 26.8 percent clip and maintained only a .226 average in that span.
Aug 21 2022Mancini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Yordan Alvarez being eased back into the lineup as the Astros' designated hitter following a one-game absence after experiencing shortness of breath Friday, Mancini will see his streak of four consecutive starts come to an end. Assuming Alvarez comes out of Sunday's contest feeling fine, he should see more work in left field in the wake of Aledmys Diaz's (groin) move to the injured list, which should pave the way for Mancini to pick up regular starts at DH.
Aug 19 2022Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini took Lucas Giolito yard in the second inning to tally his 14th home run of the season. Since joining the Astros on Aug. 2, Mancini has four homers, 10 RBI and six runs scored across 43 plate appearances. After originally being in the lineup inconsistently, Mancini has started five of Houston's last six games.
Aug 16 2022Mancini is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will take a seat after he went 3-for-10 with a double, two walks, two runs an an RBI while starting in each of the last three games. During that three-game stretch, Mancini made his first start in the outfield (in left field), but the Astros don't seem to trust his defense enough to make him a regular at a corner spot. Instead, Mancini is likely to see most of his action at first base or designated hitter while Aledmys Diaz and Chas McCormick play ahead of him in left field.
Aug 9 2022Mancini is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will take a seat for the series opener after going 4-for-18 with three home runs and seven RBI through his first six games with the Astros. He's thus far picked up his first four starts at first base or designated hitter, but Mancini could get some exposure to the corner-outfield spots if the Astros are eager to get his bat in the lineup on a more frequent basis.
Aug 6 2022Mancini went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both blasts came off rookie Hunter Gaddis, with the second being a grand slam -- remarkably, it took Mancini only four games with the Astros to hit a slam after he failed to do so at all in over 700 games as an Oriole. The 30-year-old's first three hits for Houston have all left the yard, pushing his slash line on the year to .268/.345/.425 with 13 homers and 48 RBI through 96 games.
Aug 4 2022Mancini isn't starting Thursday against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini drew his first start with the Astros on Wednesday and went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and two strikeouts. He'll head back to the bench a day later while Chas McCormick starts in left field and bats seventh.
Aug 1 2022Mancini will be traded to the Astros, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not yet known who Houston will send to Baltimore to complete the trade, but Mancini's tenure with the Orioles will come to a close. While he will likely hit lower in the order with Houston, Mancini should continue to play nearly every day between left field, right field, first base and designated hitter.
Jul 29 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has put together a pair of multi-hit efforts in his last two games. The homer was his third in July and his 10th of the season. The 30-year-old is hitting. 271 with a .757 OPS, 40 RBI, 37 runs scored, 16 doubles and a triple through 89 contests. He'll often hit second against southpaws and third against right-handers, which is a good spot for Mancini to generate run production with the Orioles' offense showing improvement in the last month.
Jul 28 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a walk in Wednesday's 6-4 extra-inning loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Entering Wednesday, Mancini had gone 0-for-23 in his previous six games. He was able to shake the slump with singles in the fifth and ninth innings. The 30-year-old still owns a .268/.345/.401 slash line with nine home runs, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored and 16 doubles through 383 plate appearances. With the trade deadline less than a week away, Mancini's tenure with the Orioles could be nearing a close, as he's considered a trade candidate as part of the team's ongoing rebuild.
Jul 25 2022Mancini is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will get a breather after went 0-for-11 with two walks and a run scored in the three game series with the Yankees. Anthony Santander will slide over to designated hitter while Ryan McKenna starts in right field and bats eighth in the series opener.
Jul 15 2022Mancini went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has hit safely in 11 of 13 games in July, going 16-for-51 (.314) this month. This was the designated hitter's first three-hit effort since May 30, but he's remained fairly consistent at the plate despite the lack of huge performances. For the season, the 30-year-old owns a .285/.359/.429 slash line with nine homers, 37 RBI, 35 runs scored, 16 doubles and a triple through 81 contests.
Jul 10 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in Sunday's 9-5 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has built his hitting streak to nine games, and if not for going 0-for-1 while coming off the bench in a 3-2 loss to the Twins on July 1, his streak would be at 17 games. Though he hasn't been a premium source of counting stats between the two streaks -- he has two home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs over his last 18 contests -- Mancini's .288 average over that stretch has made him a useful piece for fantasy managers.
Jul 3 2022Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 win over the Twins on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini's home run off Devin Smeltzer gives him eight on the year, and the designated hitter now has hits in 10 of his last 11 games. He has been a consistent player during his five full seasons in the big leagues and continues to chug along with a .279/.355/.428 slash line in 2022. His ability to get on base should ensure that he continues to hit out of the two-spot in the Orioles lineup.
Jul 2 2022Mancini (hand) is starting Saturday's game against the Twins, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini wasn't in the lineup Friday due to a right hand issue, but he went 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter. The 30-year-old will start in right field and bat second during Saturday's matchup. He's recorded hits in eight of his last nine games and has hit .250 with a homer, four doubles, five RBI, four runs, a walk and nine strikeouts during that time.
Jul 1 2022Mancini's absence from the lineup Friday against the Twins is due to a carpal boss (a type of bone growth) in his right hand, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was hit in the hand against the Blue Jays back in mid-June and missed a pair of games. His latest issue may date back to that incident. While it sounds rather worrisome, the injury apparently isn't a big deal, as Mancini expects to return to the lineup Saturday and may even appear off the bench Friday.
Jun 28 2022Mancini will sit Tuesday against the Mariners, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini started each of the last seven games and got at least one hit in all seven. He was hit in the hand by a pitch Saturday against the White Sox but was in the lineup for both of the next two games, so it's likely his absence here is routine maintenance. Adley Rutschman will take advantage of the vacant designated hitter spot to rest his legs while Robinson Chirinos starts behind the plate.
Jun 26 2022Mancini (hand) will serve as the Orioles' designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was cleared to make his sixth consecutive start after X-rays administered on his left hand -- which was struck by a pitch in Saturday's 6-2 win -- returned negative. The 30-year-old recently missed a few games due to soreness in his other hand, but he's produced at least one hit in each of his five contests since re-entering the lineup.
Jun 25 2022Mancini underwent a precautionary X-ray on his left hand that came back clean following Saturday's win over the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning Saturday, but he ultimately remained in the game and went 1-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a strikeout. Although his hand was wrapped after the game, he said that he was fine. The 30-year-old should be considered day-to-day ahead of Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.
Jun 22 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-0 rain-shortened win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini provided the last runs of the game, a two-run blast in the sixth and ultimately final inning. This was his first multi-hit effort since June 3 and his first homer since June 7. The 30-year-old has battled a hand injury recently which has caused his slash line for the year to dip to .286/.365/.427. He's added seven homers, 27 RBI, 27 runs scored and 10 doubles through 62 contests overall.
Jun 21 2022Mancini (hand) will serve as the Orioles' designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini had been out of the lineup for four of the Orioles' previous six games due to recurring soreness in his right hand, but he looks to be feeling fine coming out of Monday's off day. After opening June with six extra-base hits in as many games, Mancini has since gone 3-for-25 with zero home runs and one double over his last seven starts, with the hand issue perhaps playing a factor in the lack of production.
Jun 19 2022Mancini is sitting out Sunday's game against the Rays due to recurring soreness in his right hand, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old played the past two days following a three-game absence after being hit by a pitch on his right hand Monday, and the injury apparently remains troublesome nearly a week later. The Orioles have a scheduled day off Monday, so Mancini will have an extra day to recover ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Nationals.
Jun 17 2022Mancini (hand) is starting at first base and batting second Friday against the Rays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old has been sidelined since being struck on the right hand by a pitch Monday, but he'll be back on the field for Friday's series opener versus Tampa Bay. The fact Mancini is playing the field and not just serving as the designated hitter further indicates that he's fully recovered from the injury. He's 3-for-23 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored across his past seven contests.
Jun 16 2022Mancini (hand) remains out of the lineup as expected Thursday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini hasn't played since getting hit by a pitch in his right hand in Monday's series opener. He said Wednesday that he was still two or three days away from a return to the lineup, so it's unsurprising to see him on the bench again. Adley Rutschman will rest his legs in Mancini's usual designated hitter spot, with Robinson Chirinos starting behind the plate. According to Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun, Mancini was able to take some swings during batting practice Thursday, so he could be available to pinch hit during the series finale in Toronto.
Jun 15 2022Mancini said Wednesday that the inflammation has subsided in his right hand and noted that he believes he's two or three days away from rejoining the Baltimore lineup, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini will miss a second straight contest Wednesday in Toronto, but he has some optimism that he might be available as a pinch-hitting option off the bench for Thursday's series finale if he continues to show more improvement overnight. The 30-year-old is targeting Friday's game against the Rays for his return to the starting nine, but the Orioles could still choose to play it safe with Mancini if he's still experiencing some swelling by then.
Jun 14 2022Mancini said Tuesday that he's out of the lineup for the Orioles' game in Toronto due to a right hand injury, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. "I don't want to put a day or a timetable on [rejoining the lineup], but I'm hoping in the next two or three days," said Mancini, who doesn't expect to require a stint on the 10-day injured list. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini relayed that he's dealing with swelling on both sides of his hand after being hit by a pitch in Monday's 11-1 loss in the series opener. Since preliminary X-rays revealed no structural damage to his hand, Mancini is hopeful he'll be ready to go by the end of the week, but his return will be contingent on the swelling subsiding. If Mancini needs more time than expected to shake off the injury, it could extend prospect Kyle Stowers' stay on the big-league roster.
Jun 7 2022Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini went back-to-back with Cedric Mullins in the first inning. This was Mancini's third homer in his last six games, and he's gone 7-for-23 (.304) in that span. The 30-year-old's power has surged lately -- he's lifted his slugging percentage from .399 to .448 on the season just since May 31, with six homers, a triple and nine doubles through 53 contests overall. He's added 24 RBI, 24 runs scored and a .303 batting average.
Jun 5 2022Mancini went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has gotten on base in 10 straight games, slashing .378/.465/.703 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and nine runs scored in that span. The 30-year-old is playing some of his best ball of the year, lifting his overall slash line to .309/.379/.443 in 219 plate appearances. The slugger has five homers and nine doubles in 51 contests, and he should continue to see steady playing time in the No. 2 spot in the order behind leadoff man Cedric Mullins.
Jun 1 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and two runs scored Wednesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini went hitless in his first two at-bats, but he smacked a two-out double and came around to score in the fifth frame. He followed that up by capping off a five-run fifth inning for the Orioles with his fourth home run of the season. After a power drought during the latter portion of May, Mancini has four extra-base hits across his last four games. For the season, he has maintained a .308/.379/.423 line across 206 plate appearances.
May 30 2022Mancini went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 10-0 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini knocked in the opening run with a first-inning triple, his first three-bagger of the year, but he was thrown out at the plate attempting to turn it into an inside-the-park home run. His other two hits were singles. This was the 30-year-old's second straight three-hit game, lifting his slash line to .309/.379/.406 with three homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, six doubles in 198 plate appearances.
May 29 2022Mancini went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk in Sunday's 12-2 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini knocked in the Orioles' first run with an RBI single in the fifth inning. He entered Sunday on a 2-for-16 skid in his previous four games before this strong performance. The 30-year-old is up to a .298/.368/.386 slash line with three home runs, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored and six doubles through 45 contests.
May 28 2022Mancini isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini started at first base in Saturday's matinee and went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Ryan Mountcastle will take over at first base in the nightcap while Ryan McKenna enters the lineup in left field.
May 20 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 8-6 extra-innings win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is heating up at the plate, going 7-for-17 (.412) in his last four games. Both of his hits Friday were singles, and he was removed for pinch runner Ryan McKenna in the 10th inning. Mancini is slashing .298/.357/.397 with three home runs, 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and five doubles through 37 contests. He'll often serve as the designated hitter, though he's also split time at first base with Tyler Nevin while Ryan Mountcastle (wrist/forearm) is out of action. Mountcastle is expected to return Saturday, but that's unlikely to have much of an impact on Mancini's playing time going forward.
May 15 2022Mancini went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini's ninth-inning blast assured the Orioles wouldn't get shut out, but it was too late to change the result. The 30-year-old has homered twice in the last three games after a rather slow start to the year in the power department. He's hit safely in nine straight games, going 13-for-34 (.382) in that span. For the season, he's hitting .289/.348/.397 with three long balls, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored and four doubles through 135 plate appearances.
May 14 2022Mancini went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went back-to-back with Anthony Santander in the eighth inning to spoil Detroit's combined shutout bid, but it was all the offense Baltimore could muster. Mancini has hit safely in seven straight games and nine of 10 since returning to action from a minor rib issue, pushing his batting average on the season up to .287, but he still isn't hitting for much power with only two homers and 12 RBI through 30 contests.
May 9 2022Mancini went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-1 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini knocked in Jorge Mateo with a single and scored on a wild pitch during the Orioles' six-run fifth inning. This was Mancini's fifth multi-hit effort in his last eight games, a surge that's lifted his season slash line to .280/.321/.350 in 109 plate appearances. He's added a home run, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and four doubles while playing in a near-everyday role when healthy.
May 5 2022Mancini went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored during Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was a machine, getting on base during all four plate appearances. Wednesday's performance marked the slugger's seventh multi-hit game this season, but it was his first three-hit outing. Through 22 games, Mancini is slashing .265/.349/.664 with a 21:7 K:BB.
May 3 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini missed three games due to rib soreness, and he was limited to DHing in this one. He's posted multiple hits in three of his last six games, going 7-for-25 (.280) in that span. The slight uptick in hitting has his slash line up to .238/.284/.325 with one home run, nine RBI and five runs scored through 88 plate appearances.
May 2 2022Mancini (ribs) isn't starting Monday's game against the Twins, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has been dealing with soreness in his ribs recently and will be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. However, manager Brandon Hyde said the 30-year-old was available off the bench Sunday, and Mancini has shown enough improvement to be a reserve option again Monday, according to Zachary Silver of MLB.com. Tyler Nevin will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth.
May 1 2022Mancini (ribs) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini sat out Saturday's contest due to soreness in his ribs, and he'll remain on the bench for the series finale. According to Kubatko, manager Brandon Hyde said Mancini will be available off the bench Sunday, which bodes well for the 30-year-old's chances of returning to the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Twins. For Sunday's series finale, Ryan Mountcastle will shift to designated hitter, while Tyler Nevin starts at first base.
Apr 30 2022Mancini was unavailable for Saturday's game against the Red Sox due to soreness in his ribs, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini did not start Saturday, and it appeared that he was getting a simple day off. However, manager Brandon Hyde said after the game that he was given a breather after running into the wall in Friday's game. Hyde believes Mancini will be ready to rejoin the lineup Sunday, so he could avoid missing any further action.
Apr 24 2022Mancini went 2-for-4 with a home run, walk and three RBI in a 7-6 loss Sunday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Los Angeles got off to a 6-0 lead, Mancini cut the deficit in half with his three-run home run in the third inning off Jose Suarez. He walked in the fifth and singled to leadoff the ninth as the Orioles almost completed the comeback. It was the first homer of the season for the designated hitter as he doubled his season's RBI total with one swing.
Apr 21 2022Mancini was ejected from Thursday's game against the Athletics in the top of the fourth inning, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini reached base on a fielding error with two outs in the top of the fourth inning Thursday but was called out after he turned slightly toward second base. Mancini and manager Brandon Hyde were ejected afterward for arguing the call, marking the first time that Mancini has been tossed from a game in his career. The 30-year-old went 0-for-2 prior to his departure, and he should be available for Friday's series opener against the Angels.
Apr 19 2022Mancini went 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has gotten on base multiple times in three straight games, going 3-for-9 with three walks and a run scored in that span. The 30-year-old is slashing .243/.310/.324 through 38 appearances, and he's added three doubles in nine contests. He'll continue to hit in the heart of the Orioles' order, but the team's inability to produce much offense with runners in scoring position has been a factor in his lack of RBI and runs so far.
Apr 13 2022Mancini went 2-for-5 with a double and a strikeout in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has been the designated hitter in three of five games, but he's also seen starts in left field and at first base. The 30-year-old hits in the heart of the order and should continue to play nearly every day when healthy. He's batting .250 with three doubles and a 1:6 BB:K in 21 plate appearances, but he has yet to add any traditional fantasy counting stats.
Apr 4 2022Mancini and the Orioles agreed Saturday on a one-year, $7.5 million contract to avoid arbitration, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The deal includes a $10 million mutual option with a $250,000 buyout for 2023. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two sides were able to meet in the middle on a deal for 2022 after Mancini requested $8 million and the Orioles countered with an offer of $7.375 million. Mancini picked up a start in left field Monday in the Orioles' Grapefruit League game against the Pirates, but he's expected to see the majority of his plate appearances out of the designated-hitter spot in 2022.
Apr 2 2022Mancini is hitting .261 (6-for-23) with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in nine Grapefruit League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is penciled in as the Orioles' primary designated hitter this season, though there's also a decent chance he draws time at first base if Ryan Mountcastle needs to rest his legs. Regardless of how often he plays the field, Mancini can be expected to play nearly every day after posting a .255/.326/.432 slash line with 21 home runs, 71 RBI and 77 runs scored in 147 contests last season. The 30-year-old could also see some time in the corner outfield positions, though Austin Hays, Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander will be the usual outfield from left to right.
Oct 3 2021Mancini went 2-for-4 with a walk in Sunday's 12-4 loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old ended the year on a high note, going 9-for-29 (.310) across his last eight games. Mancini was in a power drought with no homers in last 21 contests, leaving him with 21 long balls overall. He added a .255/.326/.432 slash line with 71 RBI, 77 runs scored and 33 doubles across 616 plate appearances as a near-everyday option at designated hitter or first base.
Sep 22 2021Mancini is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini went 0-for-4 with a walk and three strikeouts Tuesday and will take a seat for the second time in the past three games since Baltimore is without the serves of a designated hitter in an NL park. The 29-year-old should return to his regular role when the Orioles return home to face the Rangers on Thursday.
Sep 20 2021Mancini is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles don't have the designated-hitter spot available in Philadelphia and Mancini recently shook off a right abdominal injury, so he'll get Monday off and cede duties at first base to Ryan Mountcastle. After sitting out four of the previous five games, Mancini checked back into the lineup in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox, finishing 1-for-5 with a three-run double.
Sep 19 2021Mancini went 1-for-5 with a three-run double in Sunday's 8-6 loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini gave Baltimore a short-lived lead with his three-run double in the seventh inning. He'd driven in just 11 runs in his previous 49 games since his last multi-RBI game on July 11. Since the start of September, Mancini has gone 10-for-34 (.294) with five RBI and five extra-base hits. The 29-year-old now owns a .778 OPS through 571 plate appearances.

He'll bat third against left-hander Chris Sale.
Sep 16 2021Mancini (abdomen) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Cedric Mullins will serve as the designated hitter while Ryan McKenna starts in center field.
Sep 15 2021Mancini was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Yankees, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was listed as the designated hitter in the Orioles' initial lineup for Wednesday's contest, but the team issued a revised lineup several minutes later. Anthony Santander will serve as the designated hitter while Ryan McKenna enters the lineup in left field.
Sep 14 2021Mancini was removed from Tuesday's game against the Yankees with right abdominal soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was batting cleanup as the designated hitter and walked in his first plate appearance, and he was replaced by a pinch hitter for his next turn through the order. The 29-year-old has recently been battling right oblique soreness, and Tuesday's injury is likely related to that issue. According to Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun, manager Brandon Hyde labeled Mancini's exit as a precaution, so he should be considered day-to-day.
Sep 12 2021Mancini is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. Sep 7 2021Mancini, who is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Royals, is dealing with right oblique soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was thought that Mancini was missing a second straight game due to fouling a ball off his foot Sunday, but it turns out he's managing an oblique issue as well. He says he didn't want to keep playing and risk his availability over the rest of the season. It sounds like he is day-to-day for now. DJ Stewart is starting at designated hitter Tuesday.
Sep 6 2021Mancini was unavailable for Monday's loss to the Royals due to a foot injury, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was hit on the foot in Sunday's contest and was dealing with "general soreness" Monday, so manager Brandon Hyde said that the Orioles wanted to stay away from the 29-year-old. It's not yet clear whether Mancini will be available Tuesday.
Sep 4 2021Mancini went 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three hits were singles, but Mancini still kept the line moving all afternoon for the O's, and his walk off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning pushed Ryan Mountcastle to third base to set up Pedro Severino's game-winning sacrifice fly. Mancini has six multi-hit performances in his last 13 games, batting .358 (19-for-53) over that stretch with a homer, four RBI and eight runs.

Aug 17 2021Mancini (calf) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rays, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini exited Monday's loss with tightness in his calf, and it appears that the issue will keep him sidelined for at least one game. Mancini snapped a 13-game power drought with the blast, a stretch during which he slashed a paltry .151/.182/.208, and on the season he's batting .254 with 20 homers -- the fourth time in his career he's reached that mark.

Maikel Franco replaces Mancini at first base.
Apr 11 2021Mancini went 1-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and a walk in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Red Sox. Mancini is slashing .189/.244/.405 with two homers, eight RBI and six runs scored across 41 plates appearances. He's struck out 13 times this season as well.
Apr 4 2021Mancini went 2-for-6 with two RBI innings in Sunday's win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has been the feel-good story of the 2021 season, beating colon cancer to return to the Orioles after missing all of 2020 and still managing to start on Opening Day. The 29-year-old has a lot of pop in his bat and it will be interesting to see if he can return to his 2019 form where he hit 35 home runs and knocked in 97 runs.
Mar 13 2021Mancini has a hit in each of his last four spring games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini understandably needed a bit of time to get his timing down after missing all of last season while undergoing treatment for colon cancer. He had just one hit in his first three spring games but appears to be figuring things out now, improving his batting average to .294 through seven contests. Mancini should serve as the Orioles' primary first baseman this season and will look to recapture the form he showed in 2019, when he hit .291/.364/.535 with 35 homers.
Jan 27 2021Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Wednesday that Mancini will play primarily at first base in 2021, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Elias also reiterated that Mancini is 100 percent healthy and will report to Baltimore's camp in Sarasota, Fla. with no restrictions after he sat out the 2020 campaign when he was diagnosed with colon cancer last spring. While the Orioles aren't closing the door on Mancini being an option in the corner outfield, the 28-year-old hasn't graded out as a strong defender in left or right field, so manager Brandon Hyde is likely inclined to limit his exposure to those positions. Assuming Mancini does indeed see most of his reps at first base during the upcoming campaign, Chris Davis would likely be phased out of the Baltimore lineup on a more regular basis after struggling mightily at the plate through the first five seasons of the seven-year, $161 million deal he inked in January 2016.
Jan 15 2021Mancini agreed to a one-year, $4.75 million deal with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed the entire 2020 season after being diagnosed with colon cancer, but it was reported in November that his bloodwork showed no tumor DNA, putting him on track for a return to full baseball activities this spring. This agreement with Baltimore is another sign that the team believes in his recovery and availability for the upcoming season.
Nov 11 2020Mancini, who missed the entire 2019 season after being diagnosed with colon cancer, said Wednesday that his most recent bloodwork showed no tumor DNA, putting him on track to return to full activities during spring training, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While speaking to the media, Mancini noted that he's been working out five days a week and taking light batting practice so far during the offseason. Mancini should gradually ramp up his activity as spring training nears, and assuming he continues to receive good news in his follow-up tests, he'll be ready to go in full capacity. The 28-year-old noted that the Orioles haven't told him whether they envision him being someone who can contribute regularly at first base or in the corner outfield in 2021, but Mancini should at least have a clear path to everyday at-bats at designated hitter if the club prefers to limit his usage on defense.
Nov 5 2020Mancini (cancer) took batting practice in his cage Thursday, Jesse Pantuosco of Radio.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported earlier in the week that the Baltimore slugger was nearing resuming baseball activities, and he officially reached that milestone Thursday. Mancini completed treatment for colon cancer last month after missing the entire 2020 season. He is expected to be ready for spring training.
Nov 2 2020Mancini (cancer) is building up his strength and working his way towards baseball activities, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini missed the entirety of the 2020 campaign while undergoing treatment for colon cancer. While general manager Mike Elias' update was generally positive, Mancini understandably has quite a ways to go before he's back in baseball shape, with Elias merely saying, "He's slowly getting back into baseball-ish type activities."
Sep 26 2020The Orioles are hopeful that Mancini will be able to join the team for spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini missed the entire season while undergoing treatment for colon cancer. He has to regain his general physical strength, let alone his baseball-specific skills, but the Orioles are confident he'll be able to do so this offseason.
Jun 28 2020Mancini (cancer) was placed on the 45-day injured list Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old announced in April he was undergoing six months of treatment for his battle with colon cancer, so it was only a matter of time before the team removed him from the 40-man roster. Mancini isn't expected to see the field in 2020 as a result, though he's expressed optimism about making a full recovery and resuming his career next season.
Apr 28 2020Mancini revealed Tuesday in an essay posted on The Players' Tribune that he will require six months of treatment for his battle with colon cancer and noted that he will likely miss the entire 2020 season. "If baseball returns in 2020, it will probably be without me," Mancini wrote. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After missing time early in spring training with what was labeled as an illness, Mancini was determined to have a malignant tumor in his colon and required surgery to address the matter March 12. Major League Baseball suspended its season that same day, and even with the hiatus likely continue at least until some point in May, Mancini doesn't appear as though he'll be ready to rejoin the Orioles when teams are allowed to resume training. Instead, Mancini's activity will be limited while he undergoes rounds of chemotherapy treatment every two weeks for the next six months, effectively ruling him out for the season. The 28-year-old is optimistic that he'll be able to make a full recovery and resume his career in 2021.
Apr 13 2020Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Monday that Mancini's recovery timeline will be measured in months rather than weeks after the slugger underwent surgery in March to remove a malignant tumor from his colon, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Elias relayed that while Mancini is on track to make a full recovery from the emergency procedure, the 28-year-old won't be rushed back into action. Major League Baseball has yet to outline a clear target date for teams to resume training, but based on Elias' comments, Mancini looks like he'll still be restricted in workouts -- if not withheld entirely -- even if the league-wide suspension extends into the middle of the summer.
Mar 22 2020Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Thursday that Mancini (stomach) has been released from the hospital and is scheduled to undergo additional tests in the near future, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was hospitalized for roughly a week after requiring surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his colon. The Orioles aren't likely to reveal a timeline for Mancini's return to activity until more information is available following testing, but the delayed start to the Major League Baseball season could help the 28-year-old avoid missing games while he's on the mend.
Mar 12 2020Mancini (illness) underwent successful surgery Thursday to remove a malignant tumor from his colon, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini has not participated in any spring games since March 2 and continues to express his appreciation for fans' support and privacy during his absence. A timetable for the 27-year-old's recovery has not been determined. Opening Day has been pushed back, which could enable Mancini to return without missing regular season games.
Mar 7 2020Mancini (illness) will miss time due to a non-baseball surgical procedure, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini hasn't played all week due to illness, though there's been no indication that the procedure is for a related issue. The Orioles are respecting Mancini's privacy by not releasing the reason for the surgery, and no timeline for his return to action has been provided. Mancini may not undergo the procedure until next week, and his availability for Opening Day appears to be at risk, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Mar 6 2020Mancini (illness) remains day-to-day, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini continues to sit out since leaving Monday's game against the Rays with the illness. It's not clear when the slugger will be able to rejoin the Orioles lineup, but as long as he's able to resume playing in the near future, he should stay on track to be slotted in the middle of the order on Opening Day.
Mar 3 2020Mancini (illness) won't be available for the Orioles' Grapefruit League road games Tuesday versus the Nationals and Wednesday versus the Marlins, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is still trying to shake the flu and will stay back at the Orioles' spring home in Sarasota while Baltimore heads to the East Coast of Florida for the next two days. It's unclear if Mancini will be ready to re-enter the lineup when the Orioles host the Twins on Thursday, but the club hasn't suggested that the ailment is anything that will keep the slugger out long term.
Mar 2 2020Mancini left Monday's game against the Rays due to illness, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was able to get two at-bats in before being pulled from the contest. He also battled an illness in mid-February. Assuming he's not out for an unexpectedly long period, his preparation for the upcoming season shouldn't be significantly impacted.
Feb 19 2020Mancini (illness) was a full participant during Wednesday's full-squad workout, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini was idle the past two days of camp while battling the ailment, but he's apparently feeling healthy again. The Orioles open their Grapefruit League slate Saturday, so Mancini should be ready to make his spring debut that day or soon after.
Feb 17 2020Mancini was held out of workouts Monday due to an illness, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both Mancini and Hunter Harvey didn't practice Monday as an illness makes its way through the Orioles' clubhouse. The severity of the illness is unclear, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Mancini back in action soon.
Jan 10 2020Mancini and the Orioles agreed to a one-year deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini set career highs in homers (35), RBI (97), runs (106), on-base percentage (.364) and slugging percentage (.535) last season. He'll make $4.75 million next season, per Joe Trezza of MLB.com.
Sep 28 2019Mancini went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in Saturday's victory over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The homer, a solo shot off Josh Smith, put the Orioles up by five runs in the ninth inning. He now has 35 homers on the season, significantly more than the 24 he hit in each of the previous two seasons. He's been a rare bright spot for the 54-win team, posting a strong .291/.364/.537 slash line on the season.
Sep 24 2019Mancini went 5-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs in an 11-4 victory against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His five hits Tuesday set a new season high and raised his average seven points, which is quite incredible considering the large sample at this point in the season. Mancini already has set new career highs with 34 home runs, 94 RBI and 103 runs this season, and now he has a shot to set a new high-water mark in average. He's slashing .293/.363/.537 in 661 plate appearances during 2019.
Sep 23 2019Mancini (leg) is back in the lineup Monday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Leg soreness kept Mancini out of Sunday's game, but he's back batting third as the designated hitter Monday. He has a hit in each of his last nine games, hitting .425 with four homers nad 16 RBI over that stretch.
Sep 22 2019Mancini is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mariners, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is experiencing some soreness in his leg and will be absent from the lineup for the first time since Sept. 3. It doesn't sound as if the injury is serious, but the Orioles also wanted to get both Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis in the lineup for the team's final home contest of the season. Mancini's next chance to return to the lineup will come Monday against the Blue Jays.
Sep 19 2019Mancini went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in the Orioles' 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Mancini is red-hot, with this four-hit game representing his sixth multi-hit effort during his current seven-game hitting streak. The 27-year-old has been a bright spot on a lowly Orioles team all season, posing an excellent .286/.356/.536 slash line with 34 homers, 36 doubles and 93 RBI in 146 games.
Sep 17 2019Mancini went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in an 8-5 loss against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Mancini's fourth homer in his last five games. During that stretch, he's hitting .391 (9-for-23) with five extra-base hits. Mancini is batting .280 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI, 99 runs and a steal in 560 at-bats this season.

Jul 15 2018Mancini is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini receives a breather heading into the All-Star break since his is 3-for-37 over his last 14 games. Joey Rickard will start in left field and bat eighth for the Orioles' first half finale.
Jul 12 2018Mancini 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Philadelphia.Mancini's seventh-inning blast chased Phillies start Nick Pivetta, but it wasn't enough as his team couldn't get much else going at the plate. He's just 3-for-29 (.103) in July, but on the bright side, two of those hits are long balls, bringing him to 12 on the season.
Jul 11 2018Mancini isn't in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini is in the midst of a 0-for-12 skid at the plate, so he'll take a seat against Sonny Gray in the series finale. Joey Rickard will take over in left field and bat eighth.
Jul 9 2018Mancini isn't in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini went 0-for-3 with a walk during Game 1 of the twin bill, but he'll get the second matchup of the day off. Jace Peterson will take over for Mancini in left field.
Jul 7 2018Mancini is out of the lineup against Minnesota on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-3 with a walk during Friday's tilt. In his place, Jace Peterson will man left field and bat ninth.
Jul 1 2018Mancini will start in left field and bat sixth Sunday against the Angels.Mancini made his fourth straight start as the Orioles' leadoff hitter Friday, but he's since been relegated to the heart of the order for the final two games of the series. Though Mancini's bat is beginning to come around -- he has gone 9-for-24 (.375 average) over his past seven games -- the second-year outfielder has mostly disappointed in the table-setting role this season. Tim Beckham will get the nod atop the order for the second straight contest and could run away with the role if he performs well over the next few games.
Jun 30 2018Mancini went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 loss to the Angels. After hitting a woeful .177 (11-for-62) through the first 17 games in June, Mancini seemed to have found his swing again, going 9-for-22 over his last six games with three multi-hit performances. The 26-year-old has still only managed a .234/.303/.378 slash line on the season, but with regular at-bats at the top of the order for Baltimore, Mancini could still put together a strong second half if he continues to build momentum at the plate.
Jun 24 2018Mancini (neck) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Braves, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. He will man left field and bat seventh against right-hander Brandon McCarthy after missing three consecutive starts with a stiff neck. It's been a disappointing season so far for Mancini, as his average has fallen more than 70 points from a year ago. However, Statcast suggests he's been the victim of some bad luck and is deserving of an average closer to .260.
Jun 23 2018Mancini (neck) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini will stay on the bench for a third straight game due to neck stiffness, though he was able to serve as a pinch hitter during Friday's 15-inning outing. He will likely be available again off the bench, but it looks like manager Buck Showalter would like to keep him out of the game if possible. Consider him day-to-day ahead of Sunday's series finale.
Jun 22 2018Mancini (neck) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Braves.Mancini was unavailable for Thursday's game with neck stiffness, but manager Buck Showalter indicated he expected Mancini to be in the lineup Friday. Chris Davis will instead return to the lineup at first base, with Craig Gentry drawing the start in left field. Mancini hopes to be available off the bench Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports, but he should still be considered day-to-day.
Jun 21 2018Mancini was not available off the bench Thursday due to neck stiffness, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports. It initially appeared Mancini was out of the lineup as a routine day off, but it has since come out that he's dealing with a stiff neck. Manager Buck Showalter told reporters he hopes to have Mancini back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Braves. If Mancini is unable to give it a go, Jace Peterson or Joey Rickard would take over in left considering Chris Davis is making his return to the lineup at first base.
Jun 21 2018Mancini is not in the lineup against Washington on Thursday, Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts during Wednesday's outing. In his place, Mark Trumbo will start at first base and bat in the cleanup spot.
Jun 18 2018Mancini went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Orioles' 10-4 win over the Marlins.Mancini's third-inning single marked the only time during the three-game series that he reached base. Since posting back-to-back two-hit games May 12 and 13, Mancini is hitting just .150/.229/.234, with the downturn in performance costing him his leadoff role. The 26-year-old could probably benefit from a brief stint in the minors to regain some confidence at the plate, but the Orioles' lack of appealing alternatives in the outfield or at first base will likely result in Mancini working through his struggles in an everyday role with the big club.
Jun 10 2018Mancini went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double Sunday against the Blue Jays.Mancini put the Orioles ahead in the second inning with a solo homer to center field, but the Blue Jays would ultimately plate 13 runs on the day. He went 4-for-15 with two doubles, a home run, and one walk during Baltimore's four-game weekend series with Toronto. Mancini is slashing .233/.309/.381 with a.690 OPS through 62 games this season.
May 29 2018Mancini is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Nationals, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini will be replaced in left field by Jace Peterson, who's slated to bat ninth. He's struggled at the plate over his last 10 games, batting .143 with one home run and nine strikeouts in 42 at-bats.
May 28 2018Mancini is starting at first base and hitting sixth Monday against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini is hitting just .206/.291/.340 through 25 games this month, so he'll slide down to the six hole for the first time this season as he looks to get things going at the dish. Joey Rickard will man the leadoff spot Monday. If Mancini finds a groove, he should work his way back to a more favorable spot in the order.
May 24 2018Mancini went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored Thursday against the White Sox.Mancini got just enough of a pitch from Lucas Giolito in the second inning to pull it over the left field wall for his seventh home run of the season. It was his first extra-base hit since May 13, and only fifth for the month of May. He is batting a disappointing .251/.330/.406 in 187 at-bats this season, but he does have a respectable 28 runs scored thanks to his role as leadoff hitter for the Orioles.
May 13 2018Mancini went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs to help the Orioles to a 17-1 rout of the Rays on Sunday.Mancini has been thriving since his move to the leadoff role and he seems to have found his power stroke of late too, as this was his third long ball in his last four games to bring his total up to six on the season. He's scored eight runs and collected six RBI over that stretch, a hot streak that has pumped his slash line up to .275/.343/.444 and he should continue to see increased upside as a source of runs as long as he remains a fixture atop Baltimore's lineup.
May 12 2018Mancini went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in a 10-3 loss to the Rays during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. After going 0-for-3 with a walk in the opener, Mancini connected on his fifth homer of the season in the nightcap, pushing his slash line up to .270/.337/.426. He's reached base safely in eight straight games and 13 of his last 14, and the 26-year-old figures to remain a fixture at the top of the O's order as long as he's providing the hitters behind him with run-producing opportunities.
May 10 2018Mancini went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Royals.Mancini's homer-less streak ended at eight games after his two-run shot in the fourth inning that helped break the game open for the Orioles. He also recorded his first multi-hit game since May 3. Mancini seems to have settled into a groove at the top of the Orioles order and figures to continue on as their leadoff man for the foreseeable future.
May 6 2018Mancini is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini struck out three times Saturday and has four hits in 24 at-bats over the last six games, so he'll be given a mental break from the daily grind and take a seat in the series finale. Jace Peterson will pick up in the start in left field in Mancini's place.
Apr 29 2018Mancini went 1-for-4 with a home run and a walk in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Tigers.Sunday's blast was Mancini's third home run of the year. Since missing two games to a knee injury, Mancini has appeared in six outings, over which he's gone 5-for-22 (.227) with two doubles and a home run.
Apr 24 2018Mancini (knee) is starting in left field and leading off Tuesday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini has been dealing with a knee injury lately, but he was able to pinch hit in Monday's game and felt no ill effects, clearing the way for him to return to the starting lineup after a few games off. The 26-year-old, who is hitting .280/.348/.415 through 21 games this season, will face Jake Faria in his return to action.
Apr 24 2018Mancini (knee) made a pinch-hit appearance in Monday's loss to the Indians. He wound up striking out against reliever Andrew Miller, but the fact that he could make an appearance in the contest at all is an encouraging sign. Mancini said that his knee was feeling better Sunday, so there's a decent chance that he'll be ready to return for Tuesday's game.
Apr 23 2018Mancini (knee) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Indians, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. As expected, Mancini will remain sidelined for a third consecutive game as he continues to nurse a sore right knee. The 26-year-old said his knee was feeling much better Sunday, so while he remains without a timetable for his return, he's trending in the right direction. In the meantime, Craig Gentry will pick up another start in left field in Mancini's stead.
Apr 22 2018Mancini, who was held out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, said prior to the contest that his sore right knee is feeling much better, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. After requiring sutures in the knee when he slid into a brick wall in foul territory Friday, Mancini said he was unable to bend the knee Saturday before healing up overnight. Mancini walked on a treadmill Sunday with limited pain to alleviate some of the Orioles' concern about his health, but manager Buck Showalter was unable to commit to a return date for the outfielder. Showalter and the Orioles' trainers will likely see how Mancini looks Monday morning before determining his status for the series finale with Cleveland later that evening.
Apr 22 2018Mancini (knee) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini received positive news Saturday when an MRI on his right knee returned negative, but he'll nonetheless hit the bench for the second day in a row while he continues to deal with some stiffness. It's not expected that Mancini will be available until at least Tuesday, so Craig Gentry should see more run in left field until Mancini is ready to go.
Apr 21 2018The results of a Saturday MRI on Mancini's knee came back negative, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini has undergone an MRI and X-ray since colliding with the wall in left field Friday night, both confirming he has avoided any structural damage. The 26-year-old's stiff and swollen knee will continue to be evaluated, but he seems unlikely to return prior to Wednesday's series opener against Tampa Bay.
Apr 21 2018Mancini will be sidelined for a couple games after receiving stitches on his knee, but he will not require a stint on the DL, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.Mancini confirmed that there was no structural damage to the knee, but the area is sore, swollen and can't bend following his exit from Friday's game after colliding with the wall in left field. Depending on the swelling, Mancini hopes to be back in action against the Rays next week, though more should be known in the coming days.
Apr 21 2018Mancini (knee) is not in the lineup against Cleveland on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini was removed in the eighth inning of Friday's game after banging into the wall on a sliding catch attempt. The outfielder underwent X-rays following the game and he may require some stitches, so it's unsurprising that he's out of the starting lineup for Saturday's affair. In his place, Craig Gentry will play left field and bat atop the order. Consider Mancini day-to-day for the time being.
Apr 20 2018Mancini exited Friday's game against the Indians with a right knee injury, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini left in the 8th inning after attempting a sliding catch on a foul ball and colliding with the wall down the left-field line. Craig Gentry replaced him in left field, and Mancini should be considered day-to-day.
Apr 20 2018Mancini (knee) underwent X-rays following Friday's win over the Indians and may require stitches, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini exited in the 8th inning of Friday's game after colliding with the wall on a sliding catch attempt down the left-field line. Overall it doesn't seem to be an overly serious injury as the 26-year-old was able to walk off the field, but Craig Gentry seems the likely candidate to take over in left field while Mancini continues to be evaluated.
Apr 13 2018Mancini (hand) will play left field and bat atop the order against the Red Sox on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini was removed from Wednesday's game a couple innings after being struck by a fastball on his right hand, but he won't miss any additional time due to the incident. The 26-year-old underwent X-rays which came back negative following the contest, so don't expect him to face any limitations during this weekend's series in Boston. Over 13 games this year, he's hitting .255 with a .683 OPS and four RBI.
Apr 11 2018X-rays on Mancini's hand came back negative Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini was hit in the right hand by a fastball during his sixth-inning at-bat Wednesday against the Blue Jays. While he was initially able to stay in the game -- finishing that at-bat with a single and completing his next at-bat in the eighth inning -- Mancini was replaced before heading out to the field in the top of the ninth inning. He'll likely undergo further testing during the Orioles' off-day Thursday; consider him day-to-day in the meantime,
Apr 7 2018Mancini went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Yankees.Hitting in the leadoff spot, Mancini reached base multiple times for the third straight game to boost his OBP to .325 on the young season. Remaining at the top of the order could cost him RBI opportunities over the long haul even if it improves his outlook in runs, but for the moment he appears to be the O's best option for setting the table.
Apr 5 2018Mancini will bat atop the order and play left field for Thursday's series opener against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini has hit out of the five-hole during each of the Orioles' first six games of the season, but will earn a chance in the leadoff spot with manager Buck Showalter searching for answers. Thus far in 2018, Mancini is hitting just .150 with a .550 OPS and two RBI. With Mancini's move up in the order Thursday, Chris Davis is hitting fifth for Baltimore.
Apr 2 2018Mancini went 1-for-4 with his first home run of the season to account for Baltimore's lone run in a 6-1 loss to Houston on Monday.Mancini was in a bit of a funk to start 2018 with just one hit in first nine at-bats but he left the yard for the first time this season with Monday's ninth-inning solo shot off Colin McHugh. He'll look to build on that going forward coming off last year's standout rookie campaign that saw him hit .293 and smack 24 home runs in 147 games.
Apr 1 2018Mancini has gone 1-for-9 (.111) with two walks over the Orioles' first three games of the season.Mancini had his second straight hitless outing Sunday, as he went 0-for-3 in a shutout loss to the Twins. Mancini is a versatile defensive option and can play first base or in the outfield, so he'll have plenty of time to find the form that hit .293 with an .826 OPS during his rookie campaign in 2017.
Feb 21 2018Mancini seems to be the Orioles' primary left fielder heading into spring training, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports. The 25-year-old surpassed many by becoming a mainstay of the Orioles' lineup last season, producing a .293 batting average with 24 homers and 78 RBI in 147 games played. He exclusively played first base in the minor leagues, but after 88 games in left field and Chris Davis still locking down starts at first, Mancini will likely see most of his playing time in the outfield once again. Regardless of where he's playing, Mancini is an attractive fantasy asset given his performance last season, but be wary of his high groundball rate, as it might limit his power numbers a bit if fewer of his flyballs leave the yard.
Sep 17 2017Mancini went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's victory over the Yankees. The rookie's RBI double in the third inning gave Mancini 24 doubles and 77 RBI on the year. Mancini is making the most of 2017's final month, collecting a hit in all but two of the O's games in September. He's currently riding a seven-game hitting streak, going 10-for-28 (.357) with five extra-base hits, three RBI and four runs during that stretch.
Sep 13 2017Mancini went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and one RBI in Wednesday's victory over Toronto. The Rookie of the Year candidate continued adding to his impressive resume by collecting his 23rd double, fourth triple and 75th RBI of the campaign. Passing Yankee Aaron Judge for the ROY Award remains a long shot, but Mancini ranks among the top three AL rookies for hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, and batting average. Needless to say, the O's first-year slugger looks nothing short of a budding superstar.
Aug 30 2017Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's win over Seattle. The rookie is beginning to heat up again. Mancini has gone 15-for-35 at the dish with two homers, nine RBI and seven runs through his past nine games. He sports a rock-solid .294/.344/.518 for the campaign and has been locked into the five-hole of the Baltimore lineup for most of August. Mancini is probably still undervalued in plenty of fantasy circles, too.
Aug 23 2017Mancini went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored during Wednesday's win over Oakland. The rookie sported an underwhelming .230/.313/.432 slash line through his first 20 games of August, so squaring up Wednesday's three-run homer was encouraging. Mancini is still having a solid campaign with 22 round trippers, 65 RBI, 50 runs and a rock-solid .285/.339/.508 line. Even with a down month, those numbers still move the needle in the majority of fantasy settings.
Aug 13 2017Mancini has come a long way in understanding how to adjust to the way pitchers attack him, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Like most rookies, Mancini has been quite streaky in his first major-league campaign. A big reason why is because the scouting report on him grows each day, giving opposing pitchers a better idea on how to get the slugger out. "It's kind of been a cycle," Mancini said. "I got challenged a lot at the beginning of the year with fastballs and everything. And then I think after I started having some success, they went to a lot of breaking stuff for a while. Then, I had a little tough go of it at first and kind of adjusted to that. Now, I think they're just kind of mixing everything." The 25-year-old's ability (and commitment) to make adjustments is a characteristic of hitters who last a long time in MLB.
Aug 10 2017Mancini belted a pair of solo home runs in Thursday's win over the A's and finished the night going 3-for-4.The Notre Dame product added a double to finish the night with three extra-base hits. It was particularly encouraging for Mancini to get back on track at the dish Thursday after going hitless in the Orioles' three-game set against the Angels, a span of 11 at-bats. Mancini now has 20 home runs on the season to go with a .296/.344/.530 slash line.
Aug 7 2017Mancini went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and one walk in Sunday's game against Detroit. The rookie's 18th bomb of the year was part of a three-homer first inning by the O's off Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez. Mancini's .263/.337/.475 slash line since the All-Star break has dipped across the board from the .312/.354/.538 mark he posted during the first half. Regardless, the 25-year-old continues to produce marks that make him valuable across most fantasy formats.
Aug 5 2017Mancini (knee) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Tigers. He fouled a ball off his knee Thursday, but X-rays were negative, and Mancini is now set to return after missing just one start. Mancini has been one of the bigger surprises of the fantasy season, as he's posted an .865 OPS, with a .321/.372/.583 line against same-handed pitching. The 25-year-old should remain in the middle of the order for Baltimore.
Aug 4 2017Mancini had X-rays on his injured knee come back negative, Dan Connolly of Baltimore Baseball reports.Mancini fouled a ball off his knee on Thursday but doesn't appear to have a serious injury. While it's unclear if Mancini can return Saturday, he was not expected to require a disabled list trip, and clean X-rays suggest he should be back sooner rather than later.
Aug 4 2017Mancini is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Tigers.Mancini hasn't had a day off since June 2, but fouled a ball of his knee during Thursday's contest and finished the night 0-for-4, so the rest day appears to come at a good time. The 25-year-old slugger has continued his tear at the plate as of late, hitting three home runs and knocking home 13 RBI since the All-Star break, but gives way to Seth Smith as the designated hitter, allowing Joey Rickard to take over in right field.
Jul 26 2017Mancini went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Rays. The rookie's had a little trouble building any momentum at the plate since the All-Star break, hitting only .256 (11-or-43) in 12 games, but Mancini's still supplied two homers and nine RBI during that stretch. With 16 homers and an .879 OPS on the year, he'd be firmly in contention for the AL Rookie of the Year Award were it not for Aaron Judge.
Jul 19 2017Mancini went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run in a 10-2 drubbing of the Rangers on Wednesday. He drove in all three with his bases-loaded triple, which capped off the scoring for Baltimore. A solid hitter throughout his career in the minors, Mancini has exploded onto the scene in his first MLB campaign, propping up many a fantasy team that was lucky enough to snag him off the waiver wire. He's now tallied 50 RBI to go with 15 homers and a shiny .309 batting average -- numbers that play in all formats.
Jul 6 2017Mancini went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs in Thursday's loss to the Twins. Both of Mancini's doubles were of the leadoff variety, which led to two of the Orioles' four runs on Thursday. He did squander a key opportunity in the seventh inning, however, as he grounded out with the bases loaded to end the frame. Still, Mancini has shown to be one of the more consistent hitters in baseball with runners in scoring position prior to that groundout as he entered that at-bat hitting .408 in those situations according to MASN's Roch Kubatko. He'll continue to see regular playing time at first base in Chris Davis' absence and will likely shift back to an outfield role upon Davis' return.
Jun 25 2017Mancini went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.Mancini also homered Saturday, and he's now up to a rock-solid season of 14 bombs, 43 RBI and 28 runs with a .321/.366/.589 slash line. The youngster has been especially hot of late with seven homers and 18 RBI over his past 19 games, and he's locked into a ripe spot in the lineup to continue driving in runs. Mancini's fantasy value is on the rise.
Jun 24 2017Mancini went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two runs and two RBI Saturday against the Rays.Mancini blasted his 13th homer of the year as part of a four-run seventh inning, helping to lead the Orioles to a road win. In his first full season, he's been one of the best fantasy values of the year, as he's slashing .322/.368/.580.
Jun 12 2017Mancini went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.The homer, an eighth-inning shot off Gregory Infante, was Mancini's 10th of the year and third in his last six games. He began the game in left field, but shifted to first base when Chris Davis left with an oblique strain -- it was Mancini's eighth appearance at first base this season.
Jun 8 2017Mancini entered Wednesday's game against the Pirates as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, launching a two-run homer off closer Tony Watson to tie the game and then blasting a three-run shot in the 11th to win it.The rookie hadn't homered since May 8 but now has nine long balls on the season to go along with a .296/.338/.542 slash line and 30 RBI in 43 games. Expect Mancini to remain a fixture in left field for the Orioles, as Wednesday's heroics should buy him plenty of job security.
Jun 7 2017Mancini is out of the lineup against the Pirates on Wednesday.Mancini will get the day off Wednesday as Hyun Soo Kim takes over in left field for the series finale. The 25-year-old is hitting .286/.329/.493 thus far in 2017, adding in seven home runs and 25 RBI.
Jun 2 2017Mancini is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.Mancini's strong start to the season has made him a mainstay in the Orioles' lineup, but he'll get a night off after four consecutive starts. Hyun Soo Kim will take over in left field for the evening.
Jun 1 2017Mancini made an adjustment to his offensive approach in May after recognizing opposing pitchers began attacking him low in the zone, SB Nation reports. The breakdown on Mancini's report is fairly simple. Early in the season, pitchers worked the inner-half of the plate against the Rookie of the Year candidate -- that didn't work. By the end of April, pitchers were attacking low and away, even running some pitches out of the zone enticing Mancini to chase. The 25-year-old slid into a 2-for-24 slump (which included 12 strikeouts), and he ended the campaign's first month with a .216 average. He adjusted and -- even while his opponents continued working low and away -- Mancini pumped out a .345/.398/.479 slash line over 73 at-bats in May. Sure, he has a brutal 27.2 strikeout rate, but that's to be expected with many young hitters. What's unexpected for a rookie is the ability to outsmart opposing pitchers by quickly recognizing and adjusting to new scouting reports. Mancini is proving that he can do just that, while at the same time illustrating what makes him one of the most attractive targets in keeper formats.
May 28 2017Mancini is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.Mancini has been able to hold his own for the most part since settling into more of a full-time role in left field, but he'll still cede a couple starts per week to Hyun Soo Kim against right-handed pitching. Though he'll man left field Sunday, Kim is slashing an unremarkable .241/.323/.328 for the season and isn't an immediate threat to turn the position into a timeshare.
May 26 2017Mancini is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.Hyun Soo Kim gets the start against right-hander Joe Musgrove on Friday, which bumps Mancini back to the bench. Mancini has actually outperformed Kim against right-handed pitching this season, hitting .304 with a 1.002 OPS as opposed to Kim's .222 average with a .596 OPS. Look for Mancini to rejoin the lineup Saturday in Houston.
May 20 2017Mancini is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays. The Orioles will start Hyun Soo Kim in left field Saturday and give Mancini his first day off since last Sunday. Mancini is still Baltimore's regular left fielder, but the Orioles are looking to get Kim some at-bats against righties when possible. Look for Mancini to rejoin the lineup for Sunday's series finale.
May 18 2017Mancini is batting second and playing left field Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. The outfielder is hitting a cool .300/.323/.578 with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 96 plate appearances and gets a boost up the card with Manny Machado (finger) taking a day off. "Boom Boom" Mancini has given the Orioles a pleasantly surprising jolt this year. He increases his Thursday DFS stock with the prime lineup spot against human pitching machine Jordan Zimmermann.
May 14 2017Mancini is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.Mancini seems to have taken over as manager Buck Showalter's preferred option in left field, but he'll give way to Hyun-Soo Kim in the series finale after drawing starts Friday and Saturday. The rookie has mustered only one hit in his last 11 at-bats, but with a .282/.313/.603 batting line for the season, Mancini still has plenty of room for slippage before ceding at-bats to Kim.
May 11 2017Mancini isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals. The Orioles are playing in the Nationals' home park, so they won't have the luxury of using a designated hitter. As a result, Mark Trumbo will head to the outfield while Mancini is sent to the bench. Look for Mancini to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend when Baltimore squares off against the Royals.
