Jun 20 2024Senzatela (elbow) tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rockies are bringing Senzatela along slowly as he works his way back from July 2023 Tommy John surgery, but he already has three bullpen sessions under his belt since being cleared for mound work earlier this month. Senzatela said that he won't be cleared to face hitters until he builds up to around 30-to-40 pitches in his side sessions. He thus looks to be at least a couple weeks away from pitching in live batting practice at the Rockies' facility in Arizona.
Jun 11 2024Senzatela (elbow) threw what he termed as a "touch-and-feel" bullpen session at Busch Stadium on Saturday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The bullpen session represents Senzatela's first known mound work since he underwent Tommy John surgery last July. The Rockies haven't ruled out Senzatela from coming off the 60-day injured list and pitching for the big club at some point later in the season, though even if the remaining steps of his rehab program go smoothly, he may not have sufficient time to get fully ramped up for a starting role.
May 6 2024Senzatela (elbow) has been throwing from 120 feet, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's expected that Senzatela won't return to the field until 2025, but his recovery has gone well to this point. He's hoping to make rehab appearances at some point late in the summer, intending to be at full strength to begin the new campaign.
Feb 28 2024The Rockies placed Senzatela (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela is expected to miss the entire 2024 season while he recovers from Tommy John surgery, so his move to the 60-day IL was an inevitability. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Sam Hilliard, whom the Rockies claimed off waivers from the Orioles on Wednesday.
Jan 28 2024Rockies GM Bill Schmidt said Sunday that Senzatela (elbow) isn't expected to pitch for the Rockies in 2024, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last July and is expected to miss the full 2024 campaign. Schmidt indicated Senzatela could be ready for rehab games at Triple-A before the end of the season, but he isn't expected to be a factor at the major-league level.
Jul 14 2023Senzatala (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The news effectively puts an end to Senzatela's season after he landed on the injured list May 12 with a sprained UCL. He'll finish the year with a 4.70 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 7.2 innings over just two starts. The 28-year-old righty will be held out until at least late 2024.
Jun 11 2023The Rockies transferred Senzatela (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela has been on the 15-day IL since May after he suffered a UCL sprain in his right elbow, and his move to the 60-day IL allows the Rockies to open a spot on their 40-man roster. Infielder Coco Montes was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Senzatela will be sidelined at least through the All-Star break.
May 12 2023Senzatela was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a UCL sprain in his right elbow, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela is expected to return before the end of the season, but he'll be shut down completely for at least the next couple of weeks and is likely to spend multiple months on the IL. He injured his right ulnar collateral ligament Wednesday in just his second start back from an ACL tear in his left knee.
May 10 2023Senzatela left Wednesday's start against the Pirates with right forearm tightness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. He allowed three runs on four hits and one walk in 2.2 innings before departing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander will be considered day-to-day until he's re-examined in Denver on Thursday, but there's a strong chance that he'll be headed to the 15-day injured list even if his MRI reveals no structural damage to his forearm. His start against the Pirates was just his second of the season after Senzatela spent the first month on the IL while recovering from the surgery he underwent last August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
May 5 2023Senzatela (0-1) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over five innings Friday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela made his season debut after recovering from an ACL tear. He turned in a solid outing; the 28-year-old threw 44 of 69 pitches for strikes and forced nine whiffs. The only run to score against him was Brandon Nimmo's solo shot in the fourth inning. Senzatela posted a 5.07 ERA across 92.1 frames last season. His next start is tentatively scheduled for next week in Pittsburgh.
May 2 2023Senzatela (knee) will return from the 15-day injured list and start Friday against the Mets, Suzie Hunter of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After tearing his left ACL last August, Senzatela will make his season debut Friday and rejoin a Colorado rotation that is currently starving for depth. The 28-year-old righty didn't perform well in his two rehab starts, allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits across 6.1 innings, and considering his subpar history in the majors, it will be hard for fantasy managers to trust Senzatela in 2023.
Apr 28 2023Senzatela (knee) is scheduled to make another minor-league rehab start Sunday, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He could then slot into the rotation spot left vacant by German Marquez, who was placed on the injured list Friday with an elbow issue and might be facing surgery. Senzatela tossed 3.1 innings of one-run ball in his rehab debut Tuesday at Triple-A Albuquerque. It was his first taste of live competition since he tore the ACL in his left knee last August.
Apr 6 2023Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Senzatela (knee) is close to pitching in an extended spring training game, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela has already made it through several bullpen sessions without issue and could be ready to join the Colorado rotation as early as the start of May. He required surgery last August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
Mar 30 2023Senzatela (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela is expected to miss at least the first month of the 2023 regular season as he completes his recovery from August 2021 surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
Mar 25 2023Senzatela (knee) threw 20 pitches in a live bullpen session Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela told Harding he felt well after the session. The right-hander is coming back from the torn left ACL he suffered in August. The hope is that Senzatela can come back at the start of May as a rotation option for Colorado, and this is a positive step in that direction.
Feb 24 2023Senzatela (knee) threw a bullpen session Friday, Danielle Allentuck of the Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's a big step for Senzatela as he continues to work his way back from last August's torn left ACL. The big right-hander is hoping to be ready to rejoin the Rockies' rotation at some point in May, although he still has plenty of hoops to jump through before a timetable for his return becomes clearer.
Feb 15 2023Senzatela (knee) is expected to make his return to the Rockies' rotation sometime in May, Danielle Allentuck of the Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela's season was cut short in 2022 after he tore his left ACL in August. Once he fully recovers, the 28-year-old righty figures to reclaim a spot in the back-end of Colorado's rotation. Senzatela held a 5.07 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 92.1 innings last year before tearing his ACL.
Aug 20 2022Senzatela will undergo surgery on his torn left ACL next week, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela suffered the injury Thursday against the Cardinals and is expected to miss 6-8 months, placing his expected return date sometime between late February and late April. A more precise timeline could emerge once the procedure is complete.
Aug 19 2022Senzatela was placed on the 15-day injured list with a torn left ACL on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela sustained his injury during Thursday's start against the Cardinals, and he underwent an MRI that revealed a torn ACL. The right-hander will be unavailable for the remainder of the 2022 season and has a return timetable of 6-8 months, but the Rockies hope that he'll be available sometime this spring, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. Jhoulys Chacin (toe) was reinstated from the 15-day IL on Friday, but it's not yet clear who will take Senzatela's place in the starting rotation.
Aug 18 2022Manager Bud Black said Senzatela will undergo an MRI on Friday after the right-hander exited Thursday's 13-0 loss to the Cardinals with a sprained left knee, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela dropped to 3-7 and was charged with five earned runs on six hits while striking out two over 1.2 innings before he departed the game when he landed awkwardly while attempting to field a Brendan Donovan dribbler down the first-base line in the bottom of the second. The injury looked to be significant, and the initial diagnosis of a sprain could mean that a damaged ACL or meniscus might be in play for Senzatela. The MRI will ultimately reveal the extent of Senzatela's injury, but even if he avoids ligament damage to his knee, a trip to the 10-day injured list appears to be a likely outcome.
Aug 12 2022Senzatela allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two across six innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela had problems with Cooper Hummel, who generated a run on a double-play groundout in the second inning and added a two-run double in the fourth. That was it for Arizona's scoring Friday, allowing Senzatela to secure his fourth straight quality start. In that span, he's allowed 11 runs, 27 hits and seven walks while striking out 14 across 25.2 innings while going 0-1 with three no-decisions. It's still a slight improvement for the right-hander, who has a 4.67 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 52:23 K:BB through 90.2 innings across 18 starts this year. He's projected for a road start in St. Louis next week.
Aug 6 2022Senzatela registered a no-decision during Saturday's 3-2 win against Arizona, allowing two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela's outing was bookended with runs -- he surrendered a Christian Walker RBI single in the first inning and a Daulton Varsho solo shot in the seventh -- but kept Arizona off the board in the middle innings thanks in part to a pair of double plays. The 27-year-old has now permitted three runs or fewer in four starts since returning from a stint on the injured list due to a shoulder injury, during which he's registered a 4.01 ERA in 24.2 innings. Senzatela possesses a 4.68 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with 50 strikeouts in 84.2 innings across 17 starts. He's currently scheduled for a rematch with Arizona next weekend.
Aug 1 2022Senzatela (3-6) allowed three runs on five hits, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out five over six innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela left his last start after getting hit by a comebacker in his left foot, but he was able to shake off the minor injury without missing time. He had a rough first inning Monday, allowing a solo home run to Jurickson Profar and two more runs before settling to keep the Padres from adding to their lead over the next five frames. The right-hander has now gone five starts without a win, allowing at least three runs in each of those games. He has a 4.87 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB in 77.2 innings across 16 starts. Senzatela is projected for a road start in Arizona this weekend.
Jul 27 2022Senzatela was removed from Wednesday's start against the White Sox after being hit by a comebacker on the left foot in the top of the seventh inning, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela talked with trainers for several minutes before being removed from the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Prior to his departure, he allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.2 innings. The right-hander returned from a shoulder issue last week, but it's not yet clear whether his foot injury will force him to miss additional time.
Jul 23 2022Senzatela gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings in a 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Brewers on Friday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark despite pitching on the road at American Family Field. He gave up home runs off the bats of Willy Adames and Andrew McCutchen in the third before leaving the game after 95 pitches and five innings of work. The 27-year-old right-hander has struggled all season long and ranks in the lowest first percentile of all pitchers in xBA. It doesn't appear that the Rockies have many alternatives so Senzatela is expected to take the mound again versus the White Sox next week.
Jul 22 2022Senzatela (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list and will start Friday versus the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was activated Friday as expected, returning to the rotation after he was placed on the 15-day IL on July 2 while suffering from right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander owns a 4.95 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with 34 punchouts over 60 innings in 13 starts this season.
Jul 19 2022Senzatela (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game in Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela initially appeared on track to make his return from the IL for Colorado's final game before the All-Star break last weekend against the Pirates, but the Rockies ultimately decided he was better off getting some additional recovery time. The right-hander built up to five innings in his rehab start July 12 with Triple-A Albuquerque, so he's not expected to face any limitations as he slots back into Colorado's rotation coming out of the break.
Jul 16 2022Senzatela (shoulder) won't start Sunday's game against the Pirates, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was initially expected to return to start the Rockies' final game ahead of the All-Star break, but Austin Gomber will draw the start instead. The right-hander will presumably get some extra rest during the team's layoff but will likely be able to return shortly after the All-Star break.
Jul 14 2022Senzatela (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list and start Sunday against the Pirates, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela pitched five innings in. a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque and he now appears set to make his return to the Rockies' rotation for the final game before the All-Star break. He's been out since July 2 with right shoulder inflammation, but he will spend the minitm 15 days on the IL. Senzatela has posted a 4.95 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with 34 punchouts over 60 innings in 13 starts this year.
Jul 13 2022Senzatela (shoulder) allowed one earned run on four hits and a walk over five innings Tuesday in his rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela didn't record any strikeouts in the 63-pitch outing, but that's not out of the norm, as any success he finds is typically derived from inducing weak contact rather than making bats miss. Aside from allowing a solo home run, Senzatela was mostly able to steer clear of trouble Tuesday, and his ability to cover five innings should set him up for a return from the 15-day injured list for the Rockies' final game before the All-Star break Sunday against the Pirates. Over his 13 starts this season, Senzatela has turned in a 4.95 ERA and 1.80 WHIP across 60 innings.
Jul 11 2022Senzatela (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela is expected to work about five innings or 75 pitches. Assuming things go to plan, he is projected to return to the rotation Sunday against the Pirates -- the last game prior to the All-Star break. Prior to being placed on the injured list, Senzatela had maintained a 4.95 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB across 60 innings on the season.
Jul 8 2022Senzatela (shoulder) will likely begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela felt good after throwing a bullpen session Thursday and plans to throw another bullpen Saturday. As long as he feels good afterward, he'll likely return to game action with the minor-league club early next week. Manager Bud Black hopes that the right-hander will require just one rehab start, which would put him on track to rejoin the Rockies just before the All-Star break.
Jul 2 2022Senzatela was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While an MRI showed no major issues with Senzatela's shoulder, he will still be forced to miss a couple starts at a minimum after exiting Friday's game. Senzatela will be eligible to return for the Rockies' final game before the All-Star break. Ashton Goudeau took Senzatela's place on the roster, but Ryan Feltner is reportedly the "most likely" to start Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.
Jul 1 2022Senzatela left Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks with right shoulder inflammation and tightness, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela lasted only two innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk with one strikeout en route to his fifth loss of the year. Manager Bud Black indicated the Rockies would know more about the right-hander's injury after further evaluation Saturday, which puts him in doubt for his next start. He has a 4.95 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB through 60 innings this year. Senzatela previously missed time with a lower-back strain in May.
Jun 26 2022Senzatela (3-4) took the loss against Minnesota on Saturday, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela fell behind by two runs after two innings, and he allowed two more runs in the fifth before exiting. That was more than the Twins needed to claim victory, as a group of five pitchers held Colorado to a single hit in the contest. Senzatela was coming off a strong run of three straight quality starts, but his subpar outing Saturday pushed his season ERA back up to 4.66.
Jun 20 2022Senzatela (3-3) earned the win against the Padres on Sunday, allowing one run on six hits while striking out three and walking two over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite giving up six hits and two walks, Senzatela was able to limit the damage to just one earned run, which came on a solo shot from Luke Voit in the second inning. The righty threw 51 of 87 pitches for strikes in the outing. It was Senzatela's third quality start in a row and his fourth this season. He will take a 4.42 ERA into his next appearance.
Jun 15 2022Senzatela gave up three earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four in a 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Guardians on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela pieced together a quality start despite only racking up four strikeouts. His strikeout percentage is in the lowest one percentile of all eligible pitchers and he has an abysmal 4.6 K/9 this season, which is markedly down from his career 6.0 K/9 number. The problems here cannot be chalked up to Senzatela's notoriously hitter-friendly home park. In 2022, he has a 6.75 ERA on the road. The Rockies continue to trot him out there every five days, so he lines up for his next start versus the Padres on Sunday.
Jun 9 2022Senzatela did not factor in the decision against San Francisco on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was knocked around for six earned runs over 5.1 innings in his previous start, so this was a nice response by the right-hander. He allowed only one run and went just long enough to finish with his first quality start since April 29. Senzatela isn't much of a fantasy asset given his 4.83 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and lowly 4.4 K/9 on the season thus far.
Jun 1 2022Senzatela (2-3) allowed six runs on 13 hits and struck out three in a loss to the Marlins in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela missed two weeks with a back injury, and his return didn't go very well. Seven of the Marlins' nine starting hitters logged multiple hits in the contest, which saw the visitors log 21 hits overall. The right-hander has given up five or more runs in three of his eight appearances this year. He now has a 5.40 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB through 35 innings. Senzatela will look to limit the baserunners on the road in San Francisco in his projected start next week.
May 31 2022Senzatela (back) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander landed on the shelf May 17 with a lower-back strain, but he'll rejoin Colorado's starting rotation after spending the 15-day minimum on the IL. Through seven starts this season Senzatela has a 4.55 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB across 29.2 innings.
May 29 2022The Rockies are hopeful that Senzatela (back) will be ready to return from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Marlins at Coors Field, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A decision on whether to bring Senzatela back from the IL this week will likely hinge on how he responds to a bullpen session Monday. After he was placed on the IL on May 17 due to a lower-back strain, Senzatela was cleared to head out on a rehab assignment this weekend at Triple-A Albuquerque. He covered four innings in his start Friday for the affiliate, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk while failing to strike out a batter.
May 23 2022Senzatela (back) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday and plans to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela has been on the 15-day IL for nearly a week due to a lower-back strain, but he's making good progress in his recovery. Assuming his upcoming rehab start goes well, the right-hander will likely be on track to rejoin the major-league club in late May or early June.
May 17 2022The Rockies placed Senzatela (back) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bud Black said after Senzatela suffered a lower-back strain in his start during Monday's 7-6 loss to San Francisco that a move to the IL was a likely outcome for the right-hander, so the transaction doesn't come as a surprise. In the short term, the Rockies have called up Justin Lawrence from Triple-A Albuquerque to provide an extra arm out of the bullpen, but Colorado will likely turn to Ty Blach or Ryan Feltner to take Senzatela's spot in the rotation when a fifth starter is next required.
May 16 2022Senzatela left Monday's start against San Francisco early due to a lower back strain, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This is not the news the Rockies were hoping for, as it initially looked as though Senzatela was simply cramping up as he went out for his warmup pitches before the third inning. He'll likely be re-evaluated within the next few days to determine whether he'll require a stint on the injured list, which is a likely outcome at this point but the move is not yet official, per Nick Groke of The Athletic. Chad Kuhl, Ty Blach and Ryan Feltner are all options to start in Senzatela's place Sunday, per Groke.
May 10 2022Senzatela (2-2) was handed the loss during Tuesday's 9-2 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout in 3.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela loaded the bases with none out in the second inning before letting all three runners score, then surrendered four straight hits in the fourth to push two more runs across the plate. The 27-year-old has now gone fewer than five innings in his last two turns while recording only one strikeout in each of his last three. He'll most likely take the mound again for a rematch with San Francisco early next week.
May 5 2022Senzatela allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out one across 4.1 innings Thursday against the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela allowed a home run to Juan Soto in the first inning, but he scattered six additional hits and avoided further significant damage. Senzatela exited the game in the fifth frame with runners on first and third but was bailed out by Jhoulys Chacin who induced a double play from the first batter he faced. As is usually the case, Senzatela was reliant upon generating soft contact as he recorded only one strikeout and five swinging strikes on 86 total pitches. For the season, he has seven strikeouts across 24 innings, yet he's still maintained a solid 3.75 ERA.
Apr 30 2022Senzatela (2-1) allowed one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out one across 6.1 innings to earn the win Friday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela wasn't dominant, but he used groundballs to limit the damage, as he induced double plays to end each of the fourth, fifth and sixth frames. Despite the positive outing, Senzatela has a minuscule 6.9 percent strikeout rate for the season and has failed to punch out more than three batters in any start. He's allowed only one home run across his first 19.2 innings to maintain a solid 3.66 ERA.
Apr 24 2022Senzatela (1-1) allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out three across five innings to take the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Tigers jumped on Senzatela early, as he allowed four of his five runs in the first inning. He did manage to settle in from there to give the Rockies some length in his outing, though the game was never particularly competitive. Senzatela has never possessed particularly strong swing-and-miss stuff, though he has a particularly poor five strikeouts across 13.1 innings this season. Even if he is able to limit hard contact, Senzatela's inability to miss bats will likely mean he runs into trouble regularly -- particularly when pitching at home.
Apr 22 2022Senzatela won't start Friday at Detroit after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game will be made up via a doubleheader Saturday, so Senzatela's start should be pushed back only one day. The 27-year-old has a 2.16 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 2:1 K:BB over 8.1 innings through his first two starts of the season.
Apr 16 2022Senzatela (1-0) got the win during Saturday's 9-6 victory over the Cubs, allowing one run on seven hits with two strikeouts in five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela scattered seven hits to prevent any one big inning and Colorado immediately responded to being down 1-0 with four runs in the bottom of the inning. It was an excellent rebound from permitting four runs in 3.1 innings on Sunday, though it would've been nice to Senzatela work more than 86 pitches and five innings. He currently lines up to face Detroit on Friday.
Apr 10 2022Senzatela allowed four runs (one earned) on nine hits and a walk in 3.1 innings during Sunday's win over the Dodgers. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela reached 66 pitches during his 2022 debut after briefly dealing with a lower-leg issue in camp, but he had lackluster results against the Dodgers. He avoided being charged with a loss since the Rockies' offense was effective Sunday, but the right-hander remains an unreliable fantasy option since he's posted a 4.84 ERA across his first five professional seasons. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Cubs on Saturday.
Apr 4 2022Senzatela (lower leg) will pitch in a minor-league game Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was scratched from a scheduled Cactus League start Sunday, but the Rockies downplayed the issue. Given that he'll pitch again just two days later, it looks as though his injury isn't anything to get too worried about.
Apr 3 2022Rockies manager Bud Black said that Senzatela has been scratched ahead of his scheduled Cactus League start Sunday against the White Sox due to a lower-leg issue, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The skipper said the Rockies are just being "super cautious" with Senzatela, who is still expected to make his final start of the Cactus League slate either Monday against the Brewers or Tuesday against the Guardians. Kyle Freeland has been named as the Rockies' starter for the Opening Day game Friday against the Dodgers at Coors Field, while Senzatela and German Marquez are in line to start the final two games of next weekend in some order.
Mar 31 2022Senzatela (0-1) allowed five runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three in four innings to take the loss in Tuesday's Cactus League matchup against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela made his spring debut Tuesday, and he issued a pair of two-out walks in the outing while also giving up two homers with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. The right-hander has said this spring he's focused on limiting his mistakes after he posted a 4.42 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 156.2 innings across 28 starts last year. While Tuesday's results weren't encouraging, he doesn't appear to be in danger of losing his rotation spot ahead of the regular season.
Oct 5 2021Senzatela agreed to a five-year, $50.5 million extension with the Rockies on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The deal buys out Senzatela's final two years of team control as well as the first three years of his free agency and includes a club option for a sixth season at $14 million. It looks like a good one for the Rockies, as they'll lock up a pitcher whose 4.84 ERA through his first five major-league seasons is good for a park-adjusted ERA- of 99, indicating he's been almost exactly league-average. His 4.42 ERA this season was nothing special, but both his 3.61 FIP and 4.17 xFIP represented career lows, thanks in part to a career-best 4.8 percent walk rate. The deal is much worse news for those who have Senzatela on their dynasty teams, as his only route out of Coors Field in the next five years will be via trade.
Oct 2 2021Senzatela (4-10) allowed six earned runs on six hits and two walks across two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela struggled immensely to begin the game, allowing eight runners to reach safely including three doubles before being pulled with two outs in the first inning. After firing at least six innings in each of his last nine starts, he failed to get through the first frame for his shortest outing of the season. The 26-year-old has a 4.42 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 105 strikeouts in 156.2 innings this season.
Sep 26 2021Senzatela allowed two earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two across six innings in the loss to the Giants on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela allowed nine total batters to reach base safely, but only one extra-base hit, limiting the damage to a pair of runs. He has eight quality starts in his last nine outings, and he went at least six innings in each of them to combine for a 3.00 ERA. The 26-year-old has a 4.10 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 105 strikeouts in 156 innings this season.
Sep 22 2021Senzatela did not factor in the decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday, hurling six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander entered the contest with seven straight quality starts dating back to Aug. 11, but that streak came to an end when Los Angeles posted a pair of sixth-inning runs to take a 4-2 lead. Colorado came back in the bottom of the frame to take Senzatela off the hook, though the Dodgers ultimately pulled out the win in extra frames. Despite the end to the impressive streak, the 26-year-old extended his stretch of consecutive starts of at least six innings to eight. Over that span, he has registered a 3.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP despite earning just two wins. Senzatela is on track to make his next start at home against San Francisco on Sunday.
Sep 15 2021Senzatela allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks with seven strikeouts through six innings, taking a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela handled every opposing bat not named Eddie Rosario on the night, as the Atlanta outfielder produced the RBI single and solo homer that accounted for all of the damage against the Colorado right-hander's line. Wednesday also saw a jump in strikeouts for Senzatela. The 26-year-old has punched out four or fewer in 17 of 25 starts this season, but found enough grip to rack up seven strikeouts in rain-soaked Atlanta. He'll look to build on this performance in his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled to come Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Sep 4 2021Senzatela (4-9) earned the win over Atlanta on Friday by allowing three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three over seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander threw an efficient 83 pitches -- 56 of which were strikes -- across his seven frames. He surrendered a single run in each of the first and second innings but then kept Atlanta off the scoreboard until the sixth. Senzatela has registered five straight quality starts, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB across 33 innings over that span. His lack of strikeouts limit his fantasy appeal, but Senzatela has been mostly reliable, yielding no more than four earned runs in 12 of 13 starts since the beginning of June. His next start is likely to come at home versus San Francisco next week.
Aug 29 2021Senzatela (3-9) won Sunday's 5-0 victory over the Dodgers, allowing two hits and a walk with five strikeouts across seven scoreless innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was brilliant Sunday, recording more strikeouts than baserunners permitted against a potent Los Angeles lineup. The 26-year-old righty retired the first 12 batters he faced and needed just 90 pitches to navigate seven strong innings. Senzatela concludes August with a 2.97 ERA in five starts and lines up to face Atlanta next weekend.
Aug 23 2021Senzatela allowed a run on five hits and two walks over six innings in Monday's loss to the Cubs. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela rolled through five scoreless innings before loading the bases with no outs in the sixth. He managed to escape the jam after allowing just one run and was in line for a win before Colorado's bullpen coughed up five runs over the next 2.1 innings. It was his third straight quality start but he's still looking for his first win since June 2. In 10 starts since then, Senzatela owns a 4.37 ERA and a 48:10 K:BB. He's lined up to face the Dodgers in Los Angeles this weekend.
Aug 16 2021Senzatela allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings in Monday's win over the Padres. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through five innings, the only run to score against Senzatela came on a wild pitch in the second inning. He later allowed an RBI base knock to Manny Machado in the sixth. The 26-year-old was in line for his first win since June 2 before Daniel Bard blew a save chance in the ninth. Senzatela had allowed at least three runs in each of his last three outings but he lowered his season ERA to 4.58 after Monday's quality start. He's projected to face Arizona at home this weekend.
Aug 11 2021Senzatela (2-9) allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings, taking the loss versus Houston on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander continues to yield a lot of hits, as this was his ninth straight start in which he's given up at least seven hits. Senzatela put together a quality start despite the hit total, but he received little help from his Colorado teammates. He owns a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 74:23 K:BB across 105 innings this season. Senzatela lines up for an unfavorable home start versus San Diego next week.
Aug 5 2021Senzatela allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six across 4.2 innings Thursday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela made his first start since July 7 after being activated from the COVID-19 injured list Thursday. He held the Cubs scoreless through four innings, but fell apart with two outs in the fifth frame. Immediately prior to being pulled, Senzatela allowed five hits in the span of six batters, including four singles and a double. Senzatela had tossed a quality start in three of his four starts prior to being placed on the injured list, and he will look to return to that form his next turn the rotation.
Jul 27 2021Senzatela (COVID-19 injured list) completed a bullpen session Monday at the Rockies' spring training facility in Arizona and is expected to make a minor-league rehab start this weekend, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela has yet to make his second-half debut after he was placed on the COVID-19 IL on July 16, just hours before he was scheduled to start against the Dodgers. While he's apparently cleared all the protocols, Senzatela will need some additional time to build up his arm following the shutdown. Assuming his rehab start goes as expected, Senzatela should be on track to slot back into Colorado's rotation next week.
Jul 16 2021Senzatela will no longer start Friday against the Dodgers after being placed on the COVID-19 injured list. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was placed on the COVID-19 IL along with three other Colorado players as a result of the league's protocols. Chi Chi Gonzalez will move up a day to start Friday. It's not yet clear if Senzatela has tested positive for the virus or if he could possibly start later in the series if he clears the protocols in time.
Jul 8 2021Senzatela (2-8) took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks after allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All the damage against Senzatela came in the second inning when the Diamondbacks got to him for three runs on four singles and a sacrifice fly before he struck out Josh Rojas to end the frame. The 26-year-old righty went on to toss four more scoreless innings but was stuck with the loss after the Rockies failed to put up a run until the seventh. He's now put up quality outings in three of his last four starts and will head into the All-Star break with a 4.58 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB over 94.1 innings.
Jul 1 2021Senzatela didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 5-2 win against St. Louis, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela went toe-to-toe with Adam Wainwright in this one as both starters allowed two runs apiece in at least seven innings. The damage against the 26-year-old righty was limited to a Paul DeJong second inning single and Paul Goldschmidt home run as he went seven innings for the fourth time in 16 turns. It was a strong opening to July as Senzatela has a 4.06 ERA in six starts since the beginning of June.
Jun 18 2021Senzatela yielded four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings in Friday's win over the Brewers. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela served up a solo shot to Luis Urias in the third inning. He later coughed up three runs in the fifth, including a two-run double by Jackie Bradley. The 6-foot-1 right-hander has given up 13 runs across 18 innings over his last three outings. He's sporting a 4.83 ERA and a 50:17 K:BB through 76.1 frames this season. Senzatela is projected to get a rematch in Milwaukee next week.
Jun 13 2021Senzatela (2-7) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Reds after allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela has dropped three of his last four decisions and is currently among the leaders in MLB in the losses department, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's been awful on the mound. In fact, Sunday's outing snapped a streak of four appearances in which Senzatela had given up two or fewer earned runs. He owns a 4.86 ERA across 70.1 innings this season and is expected to make his upcoming start against the Brewers at home next week.
Jun 9 2021Senzatela (2-6) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Marlins after allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk while fanning eight across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was coming off his best start of the season in his previous appearance, but he wasn't able to build off that outing and picked up his sixth loss of the campaign despite pitching at least six innings. He's hurled at least six frames in back-to-back games, something that hadn't happened before all season long, and he'll attempt to bounce back in his next scheduled outing. The right-hander is slated to take the ball this weekend on the road against the Reds.
Jun 2 2021Senzatela (2-5) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three across 7.2 innings, earning the win over the Rangers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela surrendered three doubles, leading to three runs. However, only one run was charged against him due to a fielding error prior to a pair of runs scored in the sixth inning. The 26-year-old has a mediocre 4.47 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP, although eight of his 11 starts have come at Coors Field. He isn't a strong strikeout candidate, posting a low 5.3 K/9. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday in Miami.
May 27 2021Senzatela (1-5) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three across four innings in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela let the first two batters reach base and surrendered a run in the first inning. In the fourth frame, he allowed the bases loaded with only one out. He got out of it with just a single run crossing the plate. The 26-year-old has a mediocre 4.97 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 50.2 innings. He is not a strikeout threat, with just a 5.5 K/9.
May 22 2021Senzatela didn't factor in the decision Saturday against the Diamondbacks after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old opened with five scoreless frames Saturday, but he was pulled during the sixth inning after surrendering three hits to begin the frame. Senzatela has a 5.01 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB across 46.2 innings this season.
May 16 2021Senzatela allowed a run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings Sunday versus Cincinnati. He hit two batters and did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the right-hander didn't display the best control, it was a noticeable improvement from Tuesday, when he gave up four runs in five innings in his first start back from a groin injury. Sunday's outing was Senzatela's third quality start of the season. He's been inconsistent with a 5.18 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 41.2 innings. He projects to face Arizona next weekend.
May 12 2021Senzatela (1-4) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings, taking the loss to the Padres on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela struggled in his first start off the injured list Tuesday. His outing was capped off by a two-run home run by Manny Machado in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old has only two quality starts this season, allowing one run in 14 innings in those outings. However, he has a 9.15 ERA in 20.2 innings otherwise.
May 11 2021Senzatela (groin) was activated from the 10-day IL and will start Tuesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander was set to return Monday but a rainout delayed his activation to Tuesday. Senzatela allowed three runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings in an April 29 start, his last before being placed on the IL.
May 10 2021Senzatela (groin) and the Rockies won't face the Padres on Monday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two teams will make up Monday's game as part of a traditional doubleheader in Wednesday's series finale. Colorado planned to activate Senzatela from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Monday, but look for the club to delay that transaction until Tuesday or Wednesday. The Rockies have yet to announce whether Senzatela will be pushed back a day in the schedule to start Tuesday, or if he'll be reserved for one of the doubleheader games.
May 9 2021Senzatela (groin) will be activated from the 10-day injured list and start Monday versus the Padres, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old landed on the shelf May 1 with a strained right groin, but he'll return after spending the 10-day minimum on the IL since it was a minor issue. Senzatela has struggled to open 2021 with a 5.76 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 29.2 innings (six starts).
May 2 2021Senzatela (groin) will play catch Sunday and is expected to increase his activity within a few days, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained right groin, but the fact he's still throwing a day later indicates it's a minor injury. Senzatela is eligible to be activated May 10 and could end up missing only one start.
May 1 2021Senzatela was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was hit hard in Thursday's start against the Diamondbacks, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three in 4.2 innings. His groin issue could have contributed to his struggles, and he'll now have additional time to recover. It's not yet clear when Senzatela could return to action, and the team hasn't announced who will take his place in the rotation. However, left-hander Lucas Gilbreath was recalled in a corresponding move and could make his major-league debut as a starter while Senzatela is sidelined.
Apr 29 2021Senzatela allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three over 4.2 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty has struggled as of late, as he threw a whopping 104 pitches in under five innings of work. The 26-year-old saw now has a 5.76 ERA for a Rockies team that has struggled immensely all season. After what many believed to be a breakout year in 2020, Senzatela has regressed in a small sample size in 2021.
Apr 24 2021Senzatela didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Phillies. He allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning four across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela gave up a two-run shot to Rhys Hoskins as part of a four-run third inning, but he settled down afterward and only allowed two baserunners the rest of the way before being lifted. It hasn't been a good start to the season for the 26-year-old right-hander, though, as he has given up four or more runs in three of his first five outings while posting a 5.76 ERA.
Apr 18 2021Senzatela (1-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings Sunday, striking out four and taking the loss against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela turned in a solid outing but was simply outdueled by Marcus Stroman on Sunday. The 26-year-old righty put runners on second and third with no outs in the second inning but escaped after just one run crossed home. He then allowed a run in the fourth after a throwing error by C.J. Cron. Senzatela lowered his season ERA to 5.40 with an 11:5 K:BB through 20 innings. He'll take the mound at home again Saturday against Philadelphia.
Apr 13 2021Senzatela (1-2) was charged with five runs (four earned) on five hits over 2.2 innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. He struck out two and walked two batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Los Angeles played ball early, with Corey Seager, Chris Taylor and Mookie Betts all going yard against Senzatela in the first three innings. Senzatela has drawn the defending champs twice in his first three starts of 2021 and the Dodgers have crushed him both times, but in between the right-hander shut out the Diamondbacks over eight innings at Coors Field. He will take a 7.07 ERA into a home matchup against the Mets on Sunday.
Apr 8 2021Senzatela (1-1) earned his first win of the season Wednesday against the Diamondbacks after tossing eight scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and two walks with three strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The difference between Senzatela's first outing and this one was night and day. The 26-year-old induced 14 groundball outs and allowed runners to get into scoring position on only three occasions. Despite his first two starts coming at Coors Field, Senzatela has yet to surrender a home run through 11.1 innings. Unfortunately, he doesn't whiff many hitters, as he currently sports a 10.2 percent strikeout rate, so he'll need to continue inducing weak contact to maintain fantasy relevance.
Apr 3 2021Senzatela (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Rockies fell 11-6 to the Dodgers, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and a walk over 3.1 innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander didn't serve up any homers, but that's about the only positive takeaway from an otherwise rough 2021 debut. Senzatela somehow managed a 2.10 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 34.1 innings last year at Coors Field, but any chance of a repeat of those numbers was quickly dispelled. He'll look for a better result in his next scheduled start Wednesday on the road in Arizona.
Mar 27 2021Senzatela allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings during Friday's spring loss to Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela gave up eight hits during his last spring start but was much sharper against Cleveland on Friday. The right-hander has moved past his hamstring issue during his two Cactus League starts and could start during the Rockies' opening series against the Dodgers this year since Kyle Freeland (shoulder) is slated to miss at least a month.
Mar 22 2021Senzatela (0-1) allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela made his first Cactus League appearance since sustaining a hamstring strain in early March, and he looked healthy despite allowing eight baserunners. The right-hander fielded several bunts during the outing and wasn't bothered by his hamstring, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Senzatela should be healthy enough to begin the regular season in Colorado's rotation.
Mar 17 2021Senzatela allowed one run on two hits and no walks while striking out four over three innings during Tuesday's "B" game, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela sustained a hamstring strain in early March but wasn't bothered by the issue during Tuesday's "B" game. He threw 45 pitches across his three innings and only allowed a solo home run to Max Stassi. The right-hander's next appearance should come in a Cactus League game, and he remains on track to be built up in time for the start of the regular season.
Mar 15 2021Senzatela (hamstring) is slated to pitch in a "B" game Tuesday at the Rockies' spring training complex, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though the Rockies aren't yet integrating Senzatela back into their Cactus League pitching schedule, his ability to face hitters in a more controlled setting is an indication that he's made a full recovery from his strained right hamstring. If all goes well in Tuesday's outing, Senzatela could make his spring debut early next week.
Mar 13 2021Senzatela (hamstring) threw two innings during a simulated game Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela's recovery has progressed smoothly since he suffered a hamstring strain in early March. He's successfully thrown twice in the past three days and could return to Cactus League games soon. Manager Bud Black is hopeful that Senzatela will be able to begin the season in the rotation.
Mar 12 2021Senzatela (hamstring) will throw a two-inning simulated game Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old completed a bullpen session Wednesday and will following that up with a simulated game. Senzatela suffered a hamstring strain at the start of March but could be ready for Opening Day if he continues on his current progression.
Mar 10 2021Senzatela (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela continues to recover from a minor hamstring strain that he sustained at the beginning of March, and manager Bud Black was impressed with his bullpen session Wednesday. The right-hander is expected to throw in a simulated game in the coming days, and he should progress to Cactus League games after that if all goes well.
Mar 7 2021Senzatela (hamstring) threw a light side session Sunday with no issues, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela suffered a minor hamstring strain during conditioning drills Monday and is expected to miss two spring starts as a result. However, the team hasn't expressed much concern regarding the injury. If he continues to throw with no issues, the right-hander could be able to return to spring games in the near future.
Mar 3 2021Manager Bud Black said Wednesday that Senzatela suffered a slight strain in his right hamstring and is expected to miss two spring starts, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old picked up the injury during conditioning drills Monday and will have his spring debut pushed back. It's considered a minor injury, so Senzatela could see game action relatively quickly if he avoids any setbacks.
Jan 12 2021Senzatela signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Rockies on Wednesday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander came on strong for Colorado during the shortened season and had a 3.44 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB over 73.1 innings. Senzatela should enter spring training with a spot in the starting rotation.
Sep 25 2020Senzatela (5-3) allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings as he was charged with the loss in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela entered Friday's contest after posting quality starts in each of his last two outings, but he gave up a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning before allowing another run in the fifth. Although the right-hander finished the season on a lackluster note, he posted a career-best 3.44 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 73.1 innings during his 12 starts in 2020.
Sep 20 2020Senzatela (5-2) picked up the win Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing one run on three hits and two walks across 6.1 innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After allowing just one run in a complete game against Oakland in his last start, Senzatela was able to stymie yet another division leader Sunday. Though he fanned just three, the right-hander was able to keep Los Angeles off the board through six innings. He recorded an out to start the seventh, but was pulled after allowing consecutive one-out walks. The 25-year-old was charged with a run when Yency Almonte allowed an RBI single to Edwin Rios. Sentazela will take a solid 3.13 ERA into his start against Arizona on Friday.
Sep 15 2020Senzatela (4-2) went the distance in Tuesday's win over the Athletics, allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela's only hiccup came in the second inning when Tony Kemp's sacrifice fly scored Jake Lamb. The right-handed Senzatela threw 74 of his 109 pitches for strikes in his first major-league complete game. He lowered his ERA to 3.30 with a 1.15 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB across 62.2 innings this season. The 25-year-old's next start is expected to be Sunday at home versus the Dodgers.
Sep 9 2020Senzatela (3-2) allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela got off to a shaky start, allowing a hit to three of the first four batters he faced -- including a two-run homer. Things got better from there, though he lost his control when he came back out for the sixth inning as he walked two and also allowed a single and triple. That resulted in the additional runs against him, ruining his otherwise solid outing. Even after this effort, he's maintained a 3.69 ERA with a 33:11 K:BB across 53.2 frames for the season. Senzatela will take his next turn through the rotation Wednesday against the Athletics.
Sep 4 2020Senzatela took a no-decision during Friday's loss at Dodger Stadium, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three across 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After giving up a solo home run to Max Muncy in the first inning, Senzatela held the Dodgers at bay until the sixth, when Corey Seager snuck in another run to tie the game with an RBI single. That would be the last damage of the night charged to Senzatela, though unfortunately the Rockies came up short in the end. The right-hander has now allowed seven homers this season, five of which have been against the Dodgers. Senzatela will carry a 3.33 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into a Wednesday matchup at San Diego.
Aug 30 2020Senzatela didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's game between the Rockies and the Padres. He tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while fanning three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was dominant, throwing 70 of his 101 pitches for strikes and limiting the Padres -- one of the best offenses in the NL -- to just eight baserunners. The bullpen prevented him from earning the win but, nonetheless, this was an impressive performance from the 25-year-old right-hander.
Aug 23 2020Senzatela (3-1) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Sunday, striking out one batter and taking the loss against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela's ERA jumped from 2.90 to 3.96 after allowing four homers and six runs against the lethal Dodgers offense. A big chunk of the damage came in the fourth inning with a three-run shot by Enrique Hernandez. Prior to Sunday, Senzatela had allowed just two homers in 31 innings. He'll take the mound at home against the Padres on Friday.
Aug 18 2020Senzatela allowed three hits with six strikeouts and zero walks over eight scoreless innings during Tuesday's 11-inning loss to the Astros, and he didn't factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old and Zack Greinke essentially matched each other pitch-for-pitch Tuesday afternoon, as both hurlers gave up only three singles across eight shutout innings. Senzatela had a 6.71 ERA for the Rockies last season, but through five starts in 2020 he has a 2.90 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB over 31 innings. He'll look to keep things rolling on the road Sunday against the Dodgers.
Aug 12 2020Senzatela gave up five runs on nine hits and zero walks over six innings during Wednesday's 13-7 loss to the Diamondbacks. He had four strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his first three starts, but he was unable to replicate that success versus Arizona. Senzatela has a 3.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB through 23 innings, and he lines up to pitch Tuesday at Houston.
Aug 7 2020Senzatela (3-0) picked up the win against the Mariners on Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out five across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela remained undefeated on the season with a strong outing against the Mariners. The right-hander allowed an RBI single to Mallex Smith in the second inning that registered as an unearned run due to a throwing error by Trevor Story. He then gave up his first home run of the season via a two-run shot to Austin Nola in the sixth. The 25-year-old now holds a sturdy 2.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 17 innings of work. He'll look for his fourth win Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
Aug 2 2020Senzatela (2-0) allowed one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out six across six innings to earn the win Sunday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela allowed only two singles through five innings, thoroughly dominating the Padres. Things unraveled for him a bit in the sixth frame, however, as he allowed a leadoff triple followed by a double and a walk to account for his one earned run. Still, the outing was impressive for Senzatela, and he has now allowed only three earned runs across 11 innings to start the season. He's in line to draw his next start Friday at Seattle.
Jul 28 2020Senzatela (1-0) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings in a win over the A's on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There was some talk in summer camp of Senzatela simplifying his delivery and impressing with sharper secondary stuff. He was not a completely new pitcher in his 2020 debut -- Senzatela only induced five swinging strikes on 86 pitches -- but a road win in Oakland qualifies as a step in the right direction after he had a 6.71 ERA last season. We'll see what Senzatela can do this weekend at home against the Padres.
Jul 22 2020Senzatela allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings as he earned the win in Wednesday's exhibition against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Showcasing his simplified delivery, Senzatela was sharp as he threw 80 pitches and didn't allow a baserunner until Danny Santana jammed a single in the fifth inning. Todd Frazier hit a three-run homer with one out in the fifth, but the right-hander was otherwise efficient. Senzatela shed 15 pounds over the offseason and will serve as the Rockies' fourth starter, putting him on track to make his season debut Tuesday in Oakland. He'll look to rebound from 2019, when he posted a 6.71 ERA and 5.5 K/9 over 25 starts with Colorado.
Jul 20 2020Senzatela gave up two runs and scattered seven hits while striking out two over 3.1 innings during his intrasquad start Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela looks in line to get his final tuneup of summer camp in Wednesday's exhibition versus the Rangers, which would seemingly put him on track to start the Rockies' fourth game of the regular season July 28 in Oakland. According to Kyle Newman of The Denver Post, Senzatela shed 15 pounds in the offseason and has shown a mid-90s fastball and sharper secondary offerings during spring training and summer camp, but the 25-year-old can probably be avoided outside of NL-only leagues until he delivers quality results in the games that count. Senzatela made 25 starts for the big club in 2019, posting a 6.71 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 5.5 K/9.
Mar 16 2020Senzatela spent spring training working on his curveball after employing it more often over his last four starts last season, often to better results, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Until he started throwing his curveball more, Senzatela was lacking a good offspeed pitch, as his changeup had caused 'uncomfortable sensations' along the nerves from his ring finger to his elbow. He's hanging on to hold his rotation slot this spring, and that hold got a little stronger when Peter Lambert got hurt this spring.
Sep 27 2019Senzatela (11-11) earned the win against the Brewers on Friday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out six across six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander turned in his ninth quality start with a surprisingly strong performance against a volatile Brewers lineup at hitter-happy Coors Field. His only damage of the night came from an RBI single by Ryan Braun in the first inning and a solo home run by Lorenzo Cain in the fourth. Otherwise, the 24-year-old reeled things to to finish off the season at .500 (11-11) with a 6.71 ERA and 1.75 WHIP.
Sep 22 2019Senzatela (10-11) suffered the loss against the Dodgers on Sunday, pitching four innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela shut Los Angeles down for four innings before allowing his first run on a homer by opposing pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu leading off the fifth frame. That opened the floodgates for the Dodgers, as the following three batters reached to load the bases and chase Senzatela from the game. Jake McGee then came on in relief and allowed a grand slam to Cody Bellinger, tacking three additional earned runs to Sentazela's ledger. The disappointing outing furthered the 24-year-old's disastrous second half in which he has posted an 11.13 ERA and 2.07 WHIP over eight starts. He'll try to end his season on a positive note when he takes on the Brewers at home on Saturday.
Sep 17 2019Senzatela (10-10) picked up the win against the Mets on Monday, giving up four earned runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one in the Rockies' 9-4 victory. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander served up a pair of long balls to Brandon Nimmo and Amed Rosario but he wound up missing a quality start by just one earned run and picking up his 10th win of the season to even up his record. He's gone six innings and bagged the win in each of his last two starts, but it's still been a struggle on the whole in 2019 for Senzatela, who is sporting a 6.83 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and an unimpressive 66:52 K:BB across 114.2 innings.
Sep 11 2019Senzatela (9-10) earned the win Wednesday after holding the Cardinals to one run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out five over six innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite coming into the game with opponents hitting .317 off the right-hander at Coors Field, Senzatela pitched a different story on Wednesday, holding an opponent to just one run for the sixth time this season and for the first time since June 18. In that span, Senzatela's ERA rose from 5.09 to 6.87 as he surrendered 46 runs across his last nine starts. The 24-year-old will look for his 10th win during a Monday matchup against the Mets.
Sep 4 2019Senzatela (8-10) gave up five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one through three innings to take the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Senzatela was hit hard in the third inning, allowing three hits, a walk and four runs. It has been a rough stretch for Senzatela, giving up five or more runs in each of his last seven starts. The 24-year-old has a 7.19 ERA with 57 strikeouts through 21 starts this season. Senzatela is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Cardinals at Coors Field.
Aug 30 2019Senzatela (8-9) was charged with the loss against the Pirates on Friday after surrendering six runs on 10 hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts across five innings.

Jul 22 2018Senzatela (3-3) got the loss against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, giving up four earned runs on five hits over 5.1 innings, striking out six and walking two in Colorado's 6-1 defeat. It wasn't a terrible final line for the right-hander, but he still labored for a second straight outing after giving up six earned to the Mariners in his last start, eventually taking his third defeat of the season. He'll take a 5.55 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP and a 26:11 K:BB through 35.2 innings into his next start, which will see him take on the Athletics next Sunday.
Jul 22 2018Senzatela (finger) was activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The Rockies cleared room for Senzatela on the active roster by placing German Marquez on the paternity list. Senzatela was sidelined for two weeks with a blister on his right middle finger, but he proved his health by completing a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday.
Jul 21 2018Senzatela (finger) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list and start Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The Rockies were deciding between Senzatela and Jon Gray to start the final game of their first post-All-Star break series and ultimately opted for the former after he came out of a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday without incident. After dazzling in his first start of the season with the Rockies on July 3 against the Giants with seven shutout innings, Senzatela fell back to earth in his next turn five days later in Seattle, giving up six runs and six innings. Senzatela developed a blister after that outing and missed a turn through the rotation, but it appears the break provided sufficient time for him to recover from the issue.
Jul 20 2018Senzatela (finger) is a candidate to get the nod Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Senzatela was placed on the 10-day disabled list July 13 due to a blister on his throwing hand, although he managed to toss a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday without issue. Either Jon Gray or Senzatela will take the hill for Sunday's series finale. The 23-year-old has made two starts for the Rockies this season, giving up six runs across six innings in his last outing against the Mariners.
Jul 13 2018Senzatela was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the Mariners with a blister on his middle finger, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Jeff Hoffman will start in Senzatela's place. If Senzatela ends up needing to miss more than three days, he won't be in line to start until after the All-Star break. It's possible he could be bumped from the rotation entirely at that point, with Chad Bettis potentially ready to return from his own blister and Jon Gray could be recalled at any time.
Jul 13 2018Senzatela (finger) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday. After being scratched from his scheduled start Friday against Seattle, Senzatela will hit the shelf with a blister on his throwing hand. The injury isn't expected to force him to miss more than the minimum, so he should return shortly after the All-Star break.
Jul 8 2018Senzatela (3-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing six runs in six innings on three walks and five hits in a 6-4 loss to Seattle. He struck out two and allowed a home run. After giving up three runs in the first inning, Senzatela settled in for most of the outing before giving up a three run shot off the bat of Ryon Healy. The 23-year-old was stellar in his last outing, firing seven shutout innings in a win against the Giants. Prior to being sent back to Triple-A Albuquerque, Senzatela was working in a relief role in Colorado, but should retain a spot in the rotation with Jon Gray now in the minors. Assuming he makes his next start, he'll see the Mariners once again on Saturday.
Jul 4 2018Senzatela (3-1) tossed seven scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Giants, allowing three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.Senzatela was brilliant in his first big league start since Apr. 27, notching five separate 1-2-3 innings and scattering three singles as he stifled the visitors. He avoided hard contact for the most part, inducing nine groundball outs mixed in with some weak fly balls. Perhaps most importantly, Senzatela was economical with his pitches, needing just 95 to make it through seven frames and thus providing the bullpen with some much-needed rest. Though his previous stint with the club was awful, Senzatela has earned another turn in the rotation for now and is slated to face the Diamondbacks at home this Tuesday.
Jul 3 2018Senzatela was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of his start against the Giants on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. As expected, Senzatela will take the mound for a spot start after tossing seven scoreless innings in a Triple-A tilt against Sacramento on Thursday. The right-hander has appeared in 10 games for the Rockies this year, logging a dismal 6.23 ERA and 1.67 across 17.1 innings of relief.
Jun 7 2018Senzatela was removed from his start with Triple-A Albuquerque in the first inning due to groin tightness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.Senzatela was at 32 pitches with just two outs in the first inning before getting the hook. The Rockies deemed his removal precautionary and said the 23-year-old is fine, so it doesn't sound like he'll require a stint on the minor-league DL as a result of the minor injury. Senzatela owns a solid 2.70 ERA and 33:8 K:BB across six starts (26.2 innings) with the Isotopes this season.
Jun 7 2018Senzatela was removed from his start with Triple-A Albuquerque in the first inning Wednesday due to groin tightness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.Senzatela was at 32 pitches with just two outs in the first inning before getting the hook.
Apr 28 2018Senzatela (2-1) threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to get the win Friday, striking out four while issuing one hit and one walk.Senzatela came on in relief Friday as starter Tyler Anderson exited in the second with an injury. Senzatela was terrific, allowing only two baserunners across 3.2 innings, while driving in the only run on an RBI double. The young right-hander has had a few rough outings which have inflated his ERA, and he's currently sporting a .311 batting average against. Friday's performance was certainly a step in the right direction, but Senzatela figures to remain in a middle-relief role for the time being.
Apr 26 2018Senzatela could pick up a spot start if Kyle Freeland (heel) is unable to make his next start, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Freeland was hit in the heel by a comebacker in his previous start, but he managed to stay in the game and toss seven scoreless innings. However, the Rockies may want to tread carefully with him and are considering skipping his scheduled start Monday. Enter Senzatela, who was primarily a starter in the past before switching to long relief at the end of last season. The right-hander holds a lofty 7.90 ERA in 13.2 innings of work this season, but he has the ability to work multiple innings and found some success in the majors last season. The Rockies haven't officially announced anything on this front, but things should clear up as Freeland tries to ramp up his activity over the weekend.
Apr 4 2018Senzatela ceded three runs on two hits and a walk in one inning of relief during Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Padres. After losing out on a rotation spot in spring training, Senzatela hasn't taken well to the transition to the bullpen. He's been lit up for five runs in 3.2 innings while allowing hitters to reach base at a .389 clip. Senzatela could be at risk of a demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque the next time the Rockies need to make an addition to the 25-man roster.
Mar 31 2018Senzatela (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits over 2.2 innings to take the loss against Arizona on Friday.Senzatela entered in the bottom of the third inning after starter Tyler Anderson surrendered seven runs through just 2.1 frames. Pitching out of the bullpen limits Senzatela's fantasy appeal, but if he returns to the rotation, he could resurface as a matchup-based option. However, it's important to remember that the 23-year-old righty plays half his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
Mar 27 2018Senzatela will likely open the season in the Rockies' bullpen, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. With Zac Rosscup (finger) expected to open the season on the disabled list, Senzatela appears to be in line to secure the team's final bullpen spot. The 23-year-old, who failed to lock down a rotation spot despite a strong showing in camp (1.62 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 16.2 innings), will likely serve as a long reliever. He could ultimately be sent back to the minors if the Rockies want to keep him stretched out.
Mar 22 2018Senzatela appears unlikely to win a spot in the Rockies' Opening Day rotation, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. While it's conceivable that manager Bud Black will go in a different direction at the back end of the rotation by the time camp breaks, Saunders views Jon Gray, Tyler Anderson, German Marquez, Chad Bettis and Kyle Freeland as the Rockies' top five starters heading into the season opener. With a 1.62 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 16.2 frames this spring, Senzatela has been a valiant challenger, and that performance could help him claim a long-relief role with the big club if he does in fact get squeezed out of the rotation. The Rockies still view Senzatela as a starter over the long haul, however, so if Black doesn't foresee a way to get him consistent innings with the big club to begin the season, the right-hander would likely head to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Feb 20 2018Senzatela is a candidate for the final spot in the Rockies' rotation, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Jon Gray, German Marquez, Tyler Anderson and Chad Bettis seem to be favorites for the top four spots in the rotation heading into spring. This leaves Senzatela, Jeff Hoffman and Kyle Freeland for the final spot. Senzatela has great minor-league numbers to his name to go with the fact that he actually won this same competition last spring, but there are a number of reasons to be wary of his as well. The 23-year-old righty faded significantly down the stretch and put up mediocre strikeout numbers at best. His upside is relatively low especially given his struggles at Coors Field, so he's relatively unattractive even if he does crack the Opening Day roster.
Oct 3 2017Senzatela allowed five earned runs on eight hits in 9.2 innings pitched in the month of September.Senzatela was moved into a relief role for the stretch run, but he did little to cement his status as a sure-fire MLB arm for 2018. After a strong start to the season, the rookie really faded down the stretch, and now he likely faces an uphill battle to even break camp with Colorado in 2018. He'll need to prove his worth during spring training, otherwise he could wind up having to develop further in Triple-A to start next season.
Sep 5 2017Senzatela will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday against the Braves, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.Senzatela hasn't pitched in a week and would have been available to start either of the first two games of the series, but Rockies manager Bud Black ultimately decided to move the rookie to a relief role and reinsert Tyler Chatwood back into the rotation. After Senzatela reeled off a 9-2 record and 4.10 ERA through his first 14 starts of the season, it's been nothing but downhill ever since, with the right-hander submitting a 5.83 ERA and 1.49 over 41.2 innings in his subsequent 13 appearances. Senzatela could prove to be more of an asset out of the bullpen, but it appears at least for now, the Rockies will see if Chatwood or one of their other options can provide an upgrade at the back end of the rotation.
Aug 28 2017Senzatela (10-5) took the loss Monday against the Tigers as he lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. So much for Senzatela's hot start. He hasn't completed the sixth inning since June 16 against the Giants, and at this point, it would be surprising if he manages it again this season. He has a 5.83 ERA with a 33:19 K:BB over 41.2 innings in his past 13 outings, and his presence in the Rockies rotation is more about their lack of acceptable options than Senzatela's ability at this point.
Aug 23 2017Senzatela allowed two runs on nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts over five innings in Wednesday's no-decision against the Royals.Senzatela was able to stay away from hard contact, surrendering eight singles and a double. He was in position for his 11th win heading into the ninth inning, but a blown save from closer Greg Holland denied the rookie that accomplishment. Assuming he sticks in the rotation, Senzatela's next start will come Monday against the Tigers.
Aug 20 2017Senzatela will be added to the Rockies' rotation during the upcoming week and is line to start Wednesday's game against the Royals, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports. The Rockies moved Senzatela back to the bullpen a week earlier after the team recalled Chad Bettis from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill an opening in the rotation, but the rookie only made two appearances during his latest run as a reliever before earning another promotion back to the starting ranks. This time around, Senzatela will swap in for Jeff Hoffman, who was optioned to Albuquerque after a dismal eight-start stretch in which he's submitted a 6.80 ERA. Like Hoffman, Senzatela has regressed following a hot start to the season, with a decline in velocity representing a main factor in his decline. After going 9-2 with a 4.10 ERA over his first 14 starts of the season, the 22-year-old has turned in a 5.73 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over his subsequent 11 appearances (four starts).
Aug 13 2017Senzatela isn't listed as a starter for any of the Rockies' first five games of the upcoming week, suggesting that he may move to the bullpen, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The Rockies will recall Chad Bettis from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Monday's series opener against the Braves while Kyle Freeland (groin) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list to start Tuesday, so there won't be room on the starting staff for Senzatela unless manager Bud Black decides to expand the rotation to six men. Senzatela fared well his last time out Aug. 9 against the Indians, giving up two runs over five innings and striking out five, but he's struggled on the whole since the beginning of June, submitting a 6.55 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 45.1 innings.
Aug 9 2017Senzatela allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five batters through five innings during Wednesday's win over Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision. This was Senzatela's first start since July 24, as the Rockies are being cautious with the rookie's workload. The 22-year-old righty through just 38 innings last season, after all. It makes him a risky fantasy asset moving forward, and playing his home games at Coors Field also limits his appeal. Additionally, his 4.73 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 are hardly standout marks. If Senzatela sticks in the rotation another turn, he projects to face the Braves at Coors next.
Aug 6 2017Manager Bud Black said that Senzatela would start Wednesday against the Indians, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.Black tipped his hand days earlier that Senzatela would rejoin the rotation during the upcoming week, but he made it official Sunday by moving Tyler Chatwood to the bullpen to create an opening for the rookie right-hander. With a 4.78 ERA and a 6.6 K/9 rate over 107.1 innings this season, Senzatela isn't exactly oozing with fantasy upside, and may need a quality outing Wednesday in order to guarantee his stay in the rotation beyond that start.
Aug 3 2017Senzatela is expected to remain in the starting rotation moving forward, according to manager Bud Black, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.Senzatela tossed three innings of work out of the bullpen during Wednesday's loss against the Mets, allowing just one hit while striking out four. His last start came July 24, where the right-hander was battered around by St. Louis. It sounds as if Black will fit him back into the rotation soon, although there hasn't been word on when Senzatela's next appearance will occur.
Jul 26 2017Senzatela's next turn in the rotation will be skipped, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.Senzatela has been severely struggling of late, with a brutal 7.18 ERA over his past 31.1 innings. Thanks to a day off Thursday and another one Monday, the Rockies can afford to go with a four-man rotation for the next week, and Senzatela will be the odd man out as a result.
Jul 24 2017Senzatela (10-4) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five across four innings en route to the loss Monday against the Cardinals. After a stellar start to the season, the rookie right-hander has fallen off the map. Although he collected three wins during June and July, Senzatela holds a 7.18 ERA and a 2.6 HR/9 in 31.1 innings pitched in that time. His season ERA is not up to 4.84, and he seems like a logical candidate to either move to the bullpen or be demoted when the injured members of the Rockies' rotation get back to full health. If he is awarded another start, it would likely come Sunday in Washington.
Jul 18 2017Senzatela was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. As anticipated, the rookie right-hander will return to the big leagues to fill the rotation spot created by the multiple injuries plaguing the Rockies' rotation. He'll face off with Dinelson Lamet and the Padres as looks to continue his surprisingly strong 2017 campaign.
Jul 18 2017Senzatela (10-3) gave up four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks while striking out just two in Tuesday's home win over San Diego. This certainly wasn't the worst Coors Field start, but it also wasn't a terribly promising one despite the positive outcome. Senzatela lost his rotation spot in June after an eight-start stretch in which he was tagged for 33 runs in 44.1 innings; he was ultimately demoted, but he's returned after making only one abbreviated appearance in the minors. His home park makes Senzatela a tough roll, but in all truth, he hasn't been that great on the road either.
Jun 26 2017Senzatela will work out of the bullpen going forward in an effort to lessen his workload, the Denver Post reports.Senzatela has been struggling of late, too. Since May 31, he has allowed an 8.54 ERA and eight home runs over five starts. But this is also his first campaign above the Double-A level, and his career high in starts is 26 with an innings high of 154. He's already well past halfway to both those marks, so it makes sense that the Rockies want to slow things down a bit. Jon Gray will take his place in the rotation. Senzatela will likely start again at some point, but for now, his work will come in multiple-inning bursts in relief.
Jun 22 2017Senzatela (9-3) allowed nine runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three batters over five innings during Thursday's loss to Arizona. The wheels appear to have fallen off for Senzatela. He entered Thursday's outing with a 5.49 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through his previous seven starts, and the rookie has now allowed 17 runs over his past three outings at Coors Field. That's a concerning trend. Often times, teams are able to get a read on young pitchers once there is more film on them at the highest level, and that is likely the case with Senzatela. How he deals with adversity and adjusts in his next handful of games will be telling. A soft matchup against San Francisco at AT&T Park is on deck for the 22-year-old righty, at least.
Jun 17 2017Senzatela (9-2) picked up the win Friday night against the Giants, allowing five runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one.The Rockies' offense bailed Senzatela out, despite him giving up three home runs. The right-hander, who is now tied for the league lead in wins (nine), receives the best run support in all of baseball at 7.14 runs per game, which helps negate his 4.10 ERA.
Jun 12 2017Senzatela allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters during Sunday's loss to the Cubs. He didn't factor into the decision. It's been a solid debut for the rookie. Senzatela has already earned eight wins and sports a 3.84 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 6.3 K/9. His 4.53 FIP suggests he might be overachieving and pitching his home games at Coors Field could eventually begin to catch up to him. After all, Senzatela's 3.18 ERA at Coors is a sterling mark. Still, he's proving to be a serviceable fantasy option. A home date with the Giants is up next for the 22-year-old righty.
Jun 6 2017Senzatela (8-2) held the Indians to three runs on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings Tuesday, striking out four en route to an 11-3 home win.He even helped his own cause at the plate, hitting a three-run double in the second inning. The rookie has been a curious case, as he's been noticeably better at Coors Field (where he's picked up six of his wins) than on the road, which isn't something you see too often from Rockies arms. However, Senzatela's luck-laden .255 BABIP, subpar 5.9 K/9 and deeply unfavorable home park should make fantasy owners wary of investing in him as anything other than a matchup-based play.
May 27 2017Senzatela (7-1) fired eight scoreless innings Friday, scattering five hits and striking out three in a 10-0 win over the Cardinals.Only one St. Louis hitter even reached second base, as the Rockies turned four double plays behind Senzatela to snuff out any hint of a rally and help produce a rare Coors Field shutout. The rookie's 3.19 ERA could be due for regression given his 4.54 FIP and 4.55 xFIP, but if the Rockies' offense keeps making him a winner, fantasy GMs who took a chance on him early won't have many complaints. Senzatela's next start will come in a much friendlier environment as he hits the road Wednesday in Seattle.
May 20 2017Senzatela (6-1) allowed four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five across five innings, but received no decision Saturday against the Reds.Senzatela struggled with control issues, but left the game with an 8-4 lead that the bullpen promptly blew in the sixth inning, keeping him from earning his seventh victory. After a blazing start to the season, the rookie has now allowed four earned runs in three of his last five starts to raise his ERA from 2.08 to 3.67. Although he's still a good fantasy option, fantasy owners should consider trading him if they feel his struggles will become a trend. He'll make his next start Friday against the Cardinals.
May 15 2017Senzatela (6-1) got through five innings to pick up the win Sunday against the Dodgers, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks. He also struck out five. The young right-hander wasn't as sharp as he has been in other contests, serving up two homers and needing 97 pitches to get through five frames. However, the Rockies offense picked him up, allowing Senzatela to move into a tie for the league lead in victories. Even with the lackluster outing, his ERA still sits at a solid 3.31 mark. He'll look to rebound in his next scheduled start Saturday in Cincinnati.
