Nov 4 2023The Rays placed Tapia on outright waivers Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia bounced around three different organizations this season, slashing .236/.317/.338 over 168 major-league plate appearances. The 29-year-old outfielder's production has fallen since leaving Colorado in 2022, but he may still be able to function as a reserve outfielder next year.
Oct 2 2023Tapia went 3-for-5 with two steals and a run scored in Sunday's 12-8 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia's three hits Sunday were his first and only hits for the Rays in five games since he was called up Sept. 23. It's certainly possible the team opts to keep Tapia on their playoff roster as a depth option with multiple field players currently sidelined due to injury.
Sep 23 2023The Rays selected Tapia's contract from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Brandon Lowe (knee) on the injured list and facing an extended absence, Tapia will be added to the Rays roster to give the team an extra bat off the bench. Tapia has slashed .230/.308/.338 with 13 RBI across 157 plate appearances with the Red Sox and Brewers this season.
Aug 4 2023Tapia signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was cut loose by the Brewers in late July. The 29-year-old outfielder has struggled to a .256/.296/.369 batting line in 187 major-league games since being traded away from Colorado in the spring of 2022.
Jul 24 2023Tapia elected free agency after clearing waivers Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia spent just over five weeks in the Milwaukee organization and slashed .173/.267/.288 over 20 games with the big club before he was cast off the 40-man roster Saturday when the Brewers called up outfield prospect Sal Frelick from Triple-A Nashville. Rather than reporting to Nashville, the 29-year-old Tapia will now look to catch on elsewhere on a minor-league or major-league deal.
Jul 22 2023Tapia was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had been with the Brewers since mid-June, hitting an unimpressive .173/.267/.288 in 20 games. He'll exit the roster as the Brewers clear space to call up Sal Frelick.
Jul 21 2023Tapia is not in the starting lineup Friday versus Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will take a seat after he went 1-for-8 with a run scored and a stolen base while starting two out of three against the Phillies. Blake Perkins will draw the start in right field and bat eighth in the series opener with Atlanta.
Jul 19 2023Tapia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he'll take a seat Wednesday with southpaw Cristopher Sanchez on the hill for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting Tapia may have supplanted Blake Perkins and Tyrone Taylor as the Brewers' preferred option in right field versus right-handed pitching. Tapia went 2-for-8 with a stolen base and a run scored while starting against right-handers Ben Lively and Aaron Nola in the past two contests, while Taylor and Perkins were on the bench for both of those games.
Jun 21 2023Tapia went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Wednesday's 5-1 loss against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting his tenure in Milwaukee 0-for-10 with five strikeouts across his first four games, Tapia's first hit as a Brewer was a solo homer off Zac Gallen. Though Tapia has gotten off to a rough start with his new team, fantasy managers should expect him to pick things up moving forward and return to numbers closer to his .264/.333/.368 slash line with the Red Sox prior to his release.
Jun 14 2023The Brewers activated Tapia for Wednesday's game in Minnesota after signing him to a one-year contract, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now that his contract with Milwaukee has been finalized, Tapia will likely settle in as a fourth outfielder behind Christian Yelich, Joey Wiemer and Brian Anderson. Before being released by the Red Sox on Sunday, the 29-year-old Tapia slashed .264/.333/.368 with a home run and six stolen bases across 96 plate appearances.
Jun 13 2023Tapia signed a major-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being released by the Red Sox on Sunday, Tapia will latch on with Milwaukee and join the team ahead of Tuesday's game against the Twins. The 29-year-old outfielder is slashing .264/.333/.368 with 10 RBI through 96 plate appearances this season. He'll provide the Brewers with additional outfield depth and could receive a fair amount of plate appearances against righties (.815 OPS vs RHP).
Jun 11 2023The Red Sox released Tapia on Sunday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After designating Tapia for assignment Monday, the Red Sox weren't able to find a trade partner willing to take on the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Tapia went unclaimed off waivers, too, and rather than having him stick around at Triple-A Worcester as outfield depth, the Red Sox will allow the 29-year-old to test his luck on the open market. Given that he has parts of eight years of MLB experience under his belt and is capable of playing all three outfield spots, Tapia shouldn't have too much difficulty securing a minor-league deal, if not a new MLB contract.
Jun 5 2023The Red Sox designated Tapia for assignment Monday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia already seemed like a candidate to lose his roster spot later this week when Adam Duvall (wrist) likely returns from the 60-day injured list Friday, but the Red Sox ended up moving on from Tapia a few days early to make room for infielder Christian Arroyo, who was reinstated from the 10-day IL ahead of Monday's game versus the Rays. The 29-year-old Tapia has hit .264/.333/.368 with one home run and six stolen bases this season. Under contract on a modest one-year, $2 million deal, Tapia could be claimed off waivers if another team views him as a quality fourth or fifth outfielder.
May 31 2023Tapia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in four of the past five games and going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs in Tuesday's 9-8 loss, Tapia will retreat to the bench. Despite the recent uptick in playing time, Tapia still looks like the Red Sox's fourth outfielder now that all of Alex Verdugo, Masataka Yoshida and Jarren Duran are all available.
May 30 2023Tapia is starting in right field and batting leadoff Tuesday versus the Reds, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will fill in for Alex Verdugo in both spots while the latter receives some rest. In 35 contests this season, Tapia sports a .659 OPS with one home run and five stolen bases.
May 28 2023Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia went 3-for-12 with a walk and an RBI while starting in each of Boston's last three games, but he'll be back on the bench for the series finale. While all of Masataka Yoshida, Jarren Duran and Alex Verdugo are available for the Red Sox, Tapia's playing time will likely be somewhat sporadic while he serves as the team's fourth outfielder.
May 27 2023Tapia went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Friday's 7-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia's second-inning single plated Connor Wong, which turned out to be the winning run. Around his appearances as a pinch hitter and mid-game replacement, Tapia has hit safely in 11 consecutive starts, going 14-for-43 (.325). He started in center field Friday and could steal at-bats from the slumping Jarren Duran (0-for-19).
May 20 2023Tapia went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was on the front end of a double steal in the second inning before scoring on Emmanuel Valdez's home run. While he's hit safely in nine of his last 12 contests, Tapia doesn't have a multi-hit effort in May. He's up to a .246/.313/.344 slash line with a home run, seven RBI, 11 runs scored and five steals through 67 plate appearances this season. He remains in a reserve role in Boston's outfield.
May 10 2023Tapia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia concluded the past weekend with his fourth consecutive start in the corner outfield, but he's moved back to the bench for both of Boston's first two games with Atlanta. Though he's currently sitting on a five-game hitting streak and has made an impact as a baserunner lately, Tapia is expected to remain on the bench more often than not with Jarren Duran having established himself as a regular in the outfield alongside Masataka Yoshida and Alex Verdugo.
May 7 2023Tapia will start in left field and bat third in Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The backup outfielder will make a fourth consecutive start. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia twice filled in for ailing right fielder Alex Verdugo (illness) and gave left fielder Masataka Yoshida a rest Saturday, when Verdugo returned to action. Boston manager Alex Cora is hoping to take advantage of Tapia's productive run as a starter. He had three hits, two walks, a double, three steals and five runs scored over the last three games.
May 5 2023Tapia is starting in right field and batting leadoff for the Red Sox on Friday in Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's his second day in a row filling in for Alex Verdugo (illness). Tapia stole two bases and scored three runs in Thursday's win over the Blue Jays.
May 4 2023Tapia went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, one RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored in Thursday's 11-5 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has logged all three of his steals this season in three games in May. The outfielder has gone 4-for-12 (.333) with two doubles over his last four contests. He'll need to keep up this improved hitting to start clawing back some playing time -- he filled in for Alex Verdugo (illness) in Thursday's game, so there's not a long-term path to playing time opening up yet. Tapia is batting .235 with a .716 OPS, one home run, three steals, five RBI and eight runs scored through 39 plate appearances.
Apr 6 2023Tapia started in center field and went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia made his first start of the season, filling in for the uber-hot Adam Duvall in center. Tapia's been used mainly as a pinch hitter early this season and remains a fourth outfielder. The former Rockies and Blue Jays outfielder is 2-for-5 with a walk and a run scored.
Mar 30 2023The Red Sox selected Tapia's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia won the team's final outfield spot. He'll have to perform in order to avoid being replaced by Jarren Duran.
Mar 26 2023Red Sox manager Alex Cora hinted that Tapia is not a lock to make the Opening Day roster, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: "We're still working on stuff," Cora said. "He's done everything possible. But we've got guys that they are good players too. So we'll make decisions when we have to make them." Tapia was signed as non-roster invitee in January, and the outfielder has an opt-out clause in his contract if he's not added to the 40-man roster before Opening Day. Tapia has put himself into strong position to be a member of the Boston bench after a good showing in Florida, but the final decision isn't likely to come until Thursday.
Mar 9 2023Tapia went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's spring game against Puerto Rico. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia is well known to the Red Sox, who watched him post a .290/.318/.516 line with three home runs and 17 RBI against them over 15 games last season when he played for the Blue Jays. He's showing those same skills in a Boston uniform now, going 7-for-17 with a 1.294 OPS over 17 Grapefruit League games. "He'll put the ball in play," manager Alex Cora told Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. "He's got some juice too. He's a smart hitter, hunting for certain pitches and putting a good swing on it." Tapia has an opt-out clause, which could be a factor in deciding who makes the Opening Day roster. He's in the mix with Rob Refsnyder and Jarren Duran, who has minor-league options, for a final outfield spot.
Jan 19 2023Tapia signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will receive an invitation to major-league spring training, where he stands a good chance to win a reserve spot. He was a semi-regular last season with the Blue Jays, putting up a .265/.292/.380 batting line with seven homers and eight steals over 128 games. Tapia can handle all three outfield spots and his presence, along with the signing of Adam Duvall, would seem to point to Jarren Duran beginning the season back at Triple-A Worcester.
Nov 15 2022Tapia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old was acquired from the Rockies in March and played in 128 games last season, but Toronto has elected to remove him from the 40-man roster in order to protect prospects from the Rule 5 draft. Tapia had a .265/.292/.380 slash line with seven home runs, 52 RBI, 47 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 431 plate appearances during 2022.
Oct 5 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia's move to the bench for the regular-season finale ends a streak of 11 consecutive starts. Gabriel Moreno will pick up the start in left field in place of Tapia, who went 1-for-5 in the Blue Jays' 5-4 loss in Game 1 to bring his season-long batting average down to .265.
Sep 22 2022Tapia isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia is in the midst of a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 5-for-16 with a triple, two doubles, six RBI, a run and a stolen base. Whit Merrifield will take over in left field and bat eighth Thursday.
Sep 21 2022Tapia went 2-for-6 with a triple, double, three RBI and a run in Tuesday's 18-11 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia made his sixth start Wednesday in the Blue Jays' last seven games and came through with his second three-RBI performance in the past four days. He should continue to handle a near-everyday role in the outfield while Lourdes Gurriel (hamstring) remains on the injured list.
Sep 18 2022Tapia went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in a 5-4 loss Sunday against Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia reached on an infield hit and stole second base in the second inning. It was his eighth stolen base in nine attempts this season and third this month. He started in center and could see more time there if George Springer (elbow) has limited availability.
Sep 15 2022Tapia is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, but he will be held out Thursday with the Blue Jays facing southpaw Shane McClanahan.
Sep 13 2022Tapia went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 3-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Getting another start in left field and batting ninth, Tapia swiped his second bag in his last three games and his seventh of the season. The 28-year-old has hit safely in five straight contests, going 6-for-18 (.333) with a homer, three RBI and four runs, and he should continue seeing regular playing time while Lourdes Gurriel (hamstring) is sidelined.
Sep 12 2022Tapia will start in left field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Rays, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will be making his fourth start in five games after going 4-for-11 with a home run, two walks and a stolen base across the past three contests. While Lourdes Gurriel (hamstring) is on the 10-day injured list, Tapia appears set to serve as his primary replacement in left field.
Sep 11 2022Tapia went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 11-7 victory over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia put Toronto up 8-3 with a homer off righty starter Kohei Arihara with nobody out in the third. The outfielder has struggled offensively in his last 15 games, recording a .163 average and .233 slugging percentage over 43 at-bats. The 28-year-old is turning in his lowest OPS (.661) since his rookie season in 2016, when he recorded a .556 OPS in 41 plate appearances.
Aug 21 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will sit for the third time in four games and may not have a clear path to an everyday role even with George Springer (knee) having now missed three straight contests. Jackie Bradley will draw the start in center field Sunday, and he and Whit Merrifield will represent potential threats to Tapia's opportunities in the outfield even if Springer is limited to the designated-hitter role whenever he returns to the lineup.
Aug 18 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With George Springer still relegated to the designated-hitter role since returning from the injured list Monday, Tapia and Whit Merrifield should continue to see most of the opportunities in center field. Tapia started and went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's 6-1 win over Baltimore, but it'll be Merrifield who draws the nod in center for the series opener at Yankee Stadium.
Aug 16 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started in center field each of the last three games and went 2-for-9 with a double and a walk, but he'll take a seat Tuesday and give way to Jackie Bradley. Though George Springer returned from the injured list Monday, he's been deployed at designated hitter in both of his first two games back, so Tapia and Bradley could continue to see work in center field until the Blue Jays are comfortable deploying Springer on defense.
Aug 12 2022Tapia is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started the past three games but will head to the bench for Friday's contest. Jackie Bradley was signed by Toronto earlier this week since George Springer (elbow) is on the injured list and will make his first start with the Blue Jays in center field.
Aug 9 2022Tapia will start in right field and bat sixth in Tuesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Toronto outfield became more crowded Monday with the signing of Jackie Bradley, but Tapia should have a chance at playing semi-regularly so long as George Springer (elbow) is on the injured list. Tapia will pick up his third start in a row after going 3-for-7 with an RBI in the Blue Jays' previous two contests.
Aug 4 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Thursday's game in Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had started the past five games in center field, going 2-for-15 with a run and an RBI over those contests while George Springer was either out of the lineup or limited to designated-hitter duties due to an elbow issue. Springer is back in the starting nine at DH on Thursday, but Tapia is on the bench with the newly acquired Whit Merrifield making his team debut as the Jays' center fielder. Merrifield will likely end up seeing most of his playing time at second base moving forward, but with Springer expected back in the outfield sooner rather than later, Tapia could see his opportunities tail off over the final two months of the season.
Jul 31 2022Tapia will start in center field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will pick up his third consecutive start in the outfield, with two coming at the expense of George Springer, who is resting for the series finale after sitting out Friday's loss with an elbow injury. Since opening the second half with three extra-base hits and 10 RBI in his first two starts, Tapia has gone 2-for-9 with an RBI over his subsequent three starts.
Jul 25 2022Tapia went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBI and a run scored in Sunday's victory over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia sent Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Matt Chapman home on a triple in the first inning to put Toronto ahead 5-0. He also singled home Teoscar Hernandez in the fifth, then came around to score later that inning on a Vladimir Guerrero single. This offensive outburst comes two days after Tapia went 3-for-7 with six RBI against Boston. The outfielder is on a six-game hit streak which includes three three-hit performances, 14 RBI, two home runs and six runs scored. Tapia is batting .409 for the month and if he continues to produce, it will be difficult to justify keeping his bat out of the lineup in Toronto.
Jul 22 2022Tapia went 3-for-7 with a homer, a double, seven RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 28-5 win against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drilled an inside-the-park grand slam during Toronto's seven-run third inning. He later doubled in another pair of runs in the fifth. The hot-hitting outfielder is 10-for-19 (.526) with four extra-base hits during his active five-game RBI streak. On the year, Tapia owns a .709 OPS with 31 RBI and 29 runs scored through 76 games.
Jul 12 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With catcher Danny Jansen (finger) returning from the 10-day injured list and starting behind the plate Tuesday, Alejandro Kirk is likely to begin seeing more starts out of the designated-hitter spot. As a result, Tapia and Cavan Biggio are likely to see their opportunities decrease moving forward, since the Blue Jays had previously been able to open up spots in the lineup for the two while rotating a number of different players at DH. Tapia had started in seven of the Jays' previous 11 games in July, while Biggio picked up nine starts over that stretch.
Jul 10 2022Tapia went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia went deep off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert in the fourth inning. This was Tapia's first homer since June 20 and his fourth long ball of the season. The outfielder hasn't posted a hitting streak of more than three games since a nine-game stretch between June 11 and June 21. He's logged a solid .263/.289/.375 slash line with 22 RBI, 25 runs scored, four stolen bases and 14 doubles through 245 plate appearances, primarily serving as a reserve outfielder.
Jul 6 2022Tapia will start in center field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game in Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will pick up his fourth start in five games, with a spot in the outfield opening up for him Wednesday while George Springer gets a rest day. Springer, Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel are locked in as the Blue Jays' top outfielders, but Tapia should continue to handle at least a part-time role while manager Charlie Montoyo often deploys one of three aforementioned players at designated hitter.
Jun 27 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Toronto still has a regular spot in the lineup open while Danny Jansen (finger) remains on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Tapia has now found himself on the bench for two games in a row against right-handed starting pitcher (Chi Chi Gonzalez and Connor Seabold). Rather than Tapia or Gabriel Moreno, Cavan Biggio -- who is making his fourth consecutive start Monday -- seems to be benefiting the most of late from Jansen's absence.
Jun 26 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With George Springer (elbow) returning from a three-game absence and with Vladimir Guerrero handling designated-hitter duties in the series finale in Milwaukee, Tapia will be forced to the bench. Tapia had started each of Toronto's last seven games in the outfield, going 7-for-27 (.259 average) with a home run, two doubles, a stolen base, three RBI and two runs.
Jun 21 2022Tapia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the White Sox on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia gave the Blue Jays an early lead with his two-run shot to left field in the second inning. The long ball extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's slashing .345/.345/.586 with four doubles, a homer and four RBI. Tapia has been taking advantage of increased playing time since Danny Jansen (finger) was placed on the injured list June 8.
Jun 15 2022Tapia will start in right field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia remains the Blue Jays' fourth outfielder, but Danny Jansen's (finger) presence on the injured list creates a slight opening for the 28-year-old to hold down at least a semi-regular spot in the lineup. He'll be rewarded with his third consecutive start after going 3-for-7 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs in the first two contests of the series.
Jun 9 2022Tapia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He swatted his second homer of the season off Brady Singer in the second inning to get the Blue Jays on the board. Tapia has been producing lately, batting .333 (9-for-27) over his last 10 games with four runs and six RBI, but the addition of top prospect Gabriel Moreno to the roster this weekend will push Alejandro Kirk to DH more often and leave less playing time for the team's bench options, including Tapia.
Jun 8 2022Tapia will start in right field and bat fifth in Wednesday's game in Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will be filling in for a resting Teoscar Hernandez on Wednesday, but the 28-year-old could benefit from a steadier role moving forward as part of the domino effect of top backstop Danny Jansen (finger) landing on the 10-day injured list. While Jansen is on the shelf, Alejandro Kirk will see more work behind the plate, which should allow the Blue Jays to rotate a number of their outfielders in the designated-hitter spot. If that ends up being the case, the lefty-hitting Tapia would be in good position to pick up regular starts versus right-handed pitching.
May 31 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Tapia will sit for the second time in three games, with his absence from the lineup Tuesday coming against a right-handed starting pitcher (Lucas Giolito). With both Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk excelling at the plate of late, the Blue Jays could choose to open up more playing time for both players by deploying one of the two catchers as a designated hitter. If that ends up being the case, Tapia may find himself as the odd man out of the lineup against right-handed pitching in most games.
May 28 2022Tapi will sit Saturday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia struggled to a .243/.260/.329 line in April, but he's hit an even worse .210/.258/.210 thus far in May. As of Sunday, it will be one month since his last extra-base hit. Cavan Biggio will start in left field Saturday.
May 23 2022Tapia will be on the bench Monday against St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia sits after starting seven of the last eight games. He hasn't done much at the plate this season, hitting .230/.258/.279. Lourdes Gurriel will start in left field.
May 18 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Tapia will take a seat against Seattle southpaw Marco Gonzales after he went 2-for-10 with three walks, a run and an RBI while starting in each of Toronto's last four games. Toronto will run out an outfield of Lourdes Gurriel, George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez from left to right.
May 13 2022Tapia isn't starting Friday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has gone 1-for-7 with two strikeouts over his last three games, and he'll be on the bench for the third time in the last five matchups. Lourdes Gurriel will take over in left field and bat sixth while Zack Collins enters the lineup at catcher.
May 10 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though both Tapia and Zack Collins are on the bench Tuesday, the former appears to have taken claim to the near-everyday role that previously belonged to the latter. The lefty-hitting Collins has now sat out three straight games, with his last two absences coming against right-handed pitchers. Meanwhile, the lefty-hitting Tapia has drawn three starts over Toronto's last five games.
May 8 2022Tapia went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in an 8-3 win over the Guardians in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hitting ninth for the Blue Jays and getting the start in right field, Tapia had run-scoring singles in the second and fourth innings and came around to score each time. The performance snapped a 1-for-18 mini-slump over his prior six games, and with Teoscar Hernandez now back in the lineup, Tapia's playing time is likely to fall by the wayside. On the season, the former Rockie is slashing a rough .222/.237/.289 through 94 plate appearances with a homer, three steals, seven RBI and 11 runs.
May 4 2022Tapia isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drew starts in the last two games but went just 1-for-8 with two strikeouts. Vinny Capra will take over in right field and bat seventh.
May 1 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started the past 12 games and played at every outfield spot during that stretch, but he'll head to the bench for Sunday's contest. That everyday role isn't likely to continue for long, with Teoscar Hernandez (oblique) targeting a return from the injured list later this week. Vinny Capra, Bradley Zimmer and George Springer are starting from left to right in the outfield Sunday.
Apr 23 2022Tapia went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base from the leadoff spot in Friday's win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Teoscar Hernandez (oblique) and George Springer (forearm) sidelined, Tapia has started to get consistent playing time and he's finding a rhythm at the plate, going 5-for-14 (.357) over the last three games with a homer, two steals, two RBI and three runs. Springer could be back at some point this weekend, but Tapia's hot streak could keep him in the starting lineup for a little while longer.
Apr 21 2022Tapia went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He got the Blue Jays on the board by taking Nick Pivetta deep in the second inning, then swiped a bag in the seventh after reaching first on dropped third strike against Matt Barnes. The homer and steal were both the first of the season for Tapia, and until Wednesday he hadn't been taking much advantage of the playing time that's opened up with Tesocar Hernandez (oblique) on the shelf. Through his first 31 plate appearances with Toronto, Tapia is slashing .200/.200/.333 with a 0:9 BB:K.
Apr 17 2022Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started the past three games and will take a seat despite going 4-for-11 with a double and two runs during that stretch. The 28-year-old should continue to see more regular playing time until Teoscar Hernandez (oblique) returns from the injured list, but it's Cavan Biggio who will start in right field Sunday.
Apr 13 2022Tapia will start in left field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: From a playing-time perspective, Tapia could be one of the big winners of Danny Jansen's recent move to the injured list with an oblique strain that manager Charlie Montoyo said would likely sideline the catcher for multiple weeks. While Jansen is out, Alejandro Kirk is expected to see more work behind the plate and fewer starts out of the designated-hitter spot. The Blue Jays could look to rotate the likes of Teoscar Hernandez, Lourdes Gurriel and George Springer in the DH spot, with Tapia being the main beneficiary of more starts in the outfield as a result. The lefty-hitting Tapia may have a tougher time finding regular at-bats against southpaw starters, however.
Apr 9 2022Tapia is starting in left field and batting eighth in his debut for the Blue Jays on Saturday against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He figures to sit against most lefties and some righties, as the Jays will want to have Alejandro Kirk at designated hitter some days along with their top three outfielders. However, Tapia will get a chance to show his new team what it has in him with righty Dane Dunning on the hill.
Mar 24 2022Tapia and Adrian Pinto were traded from the Rockies to the Blue Jays on Thursday in exchange for Randal Grichuk and cash considerations, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The core of the deal is an unusual swap of major-league outfielders in Tapia and Grichuk. Tapia gets the short end of the stick there, as he's moving away from the hitters' paradise of Coors Field and joins a much stronger roster where playing time will be harder to come by. Tapia has been a fine fantasy option in Colorado, as the large outfield at Coors Field has helped him to a .280 batting average, but he owns a lifetime 78 wRC+ once the very hitter-friendly park is factored in, so it's hard to see him carving out a significant role for a contender like the Blue Jays, unless there's an injury ahead of him on the depth chart.
Mar 23 2022Tapia and the Rockies agreed Tuesday on a one-year, $3.95 million contract to avoid arbitration, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will receive a $2 million pay raise in his second year of arbitration after he slashed .273/.327/.372 with six home runs, 20 stolen bases, 69 runs and 50 RBI across 533 plate appearances in 2021. With the Rockies bringing aboard Kris Bryant earlier this month and planning to install him as their everyday left fielder, Tapia could move into more of a fourth-outfielder role during the upcoming season.
Mar 19 2022Tapia (not injury related) reported to spring training Saturday, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was a late arrival to camp due to visa issues, but he'll now be able to begin working out with the team after missing nearly a week of spring training. The 28-year-old is in line for a depth role to begin the 2022 campaign since Kris Bryant is expected to mainly play in left field, while Ryan McMahon should see the bulk of the playing time at third base. Tapia had a career-high 20 stolen bases last season and is a potential trade candidate heading into 2022.
Mar 16 2022Tapia's (not injury related) role with the Rockies is in flux after the team signed Kris Bryant to a seven-year, $182 million contract Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia hasn't yet reported to spring training due to visa issues, but he may not have a starting role once he joins the team. The 28-year-old has had plenty of playing time across the last three seasons and hit .282 during that time, but he didn't post double-digit homers in any of those years despite playing his home games at Coors Field. Tapia recorded a career-high 20 stolen bases in 2021, but Bryant provides more pop in the top half of the batting order. If the Rockies plan to use Bryant in left field while playing Ryan McMahon at third base, Tapia is a potential trade candidate since he's shown promise with his contact and speed abilities across the last several seasons.
Sep 28 2021Tapia is not starting Tuesday against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drew starts in five of the previous six games, but he'll move back to the bench Tuesday with Washington sending southpaw Patrick Corbin to the mound. Sam Hilliard, Garrett Hampson and Yonathan Daza will man the outfield from left to right.
Sep 27 2021Tapia will start in left field and bat leadoff Monday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia appeared to have moved into more of a fourth-outfielder role earlier this month, but he's recaptured playing time as the season winds to a close. He'll be awarded his fifth start in six games Monday after going 5-for-15 with a home run over his prior four contests.
Sep 23 2021Tapia went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia took Max Scherzer yard in the fifth inning to record his sixth home run of the season. It was Tapia's first long ball since May 21, a span of 292 at-bats. Despite the lack of power, Tapia has stolen 20 bases and scored 67 runs this season across only 496 plate appearances.
Sep 19 2021Tapia is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marks the sixth time in nine games that Tapia has been omitted from the lineup. He's hit .184 with two extra-base hits and two RBI in 13 games since the beginning of September. Sam Hilliard is starting in left field and batting seventh Sunday.
Sep 18 2021Tapia is not in Saturday's starting lineup against Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not particularly notable that the left-handed Tapia is not in Saturday's lineup with southpaw Patrick Corbin on the mound for the opponent. However, he has now opened on the bench in five of his team's last eight games. In addition, the Rockies called up prospect Ryan Vilade, only further crowding the team's outfield. Vilade will start in left field and hit seventh in Saturday's contest.
Sep 17 2021Tapia is not in the starting lineup Friday against Washington, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has just seven hits (two XBH) in 38 September at-bats, and he'll now take a seat for the fourth time in the last seven games. Sam Hilliard starts in left field and will bat eighth Friday.
Sep 15 2021Tapia isn't starting Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started each of the last two games and went 1-for-8 with a run, a walk and three strikeouts. Sam Hilliard (elbow) will return to the lineup to start in left field and bat sixth.
Sep 11 2021Tapia is out of the lineup Saturday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He is hitting .148 this month and will sit for a third straight game. Sam Hilliard has started in left field over Tapia in all three of those games.
Sep 10 2021Tapia is not in the starting lineup Friday against Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was limited to pinch-hitting duties in Thursday's win, and now he's absent from the starting nine for the second straight night. Sam Hilliard will man left field and bat seventh.
Sep 6 2021Tapia went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in Sunday's 9-2 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia tallied the only two hits of the day for the Rockies after singling in the first and leading off the fourth with a triple. A groundout by Brendan Rodgers would end up bringing Tapia across home plate for the team's first run. The 27-year-old hasn't been seeing the ball well lately, with just three base knocks over his last eight games, but he is slashing a respectable .281/.332/.379 with 30 extra-base hits, 46 RBI, 63 runs scored, 20 steals and 34:60 BB:K over 456 plate appearances.
Sep 2 2021Tapia isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has been in the lineup each of the last three games but went just 1-for-12 with a walk. Connor Joe will take his place in left field and lead off.
Aug 30 2021Tapia (toe) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had been on the injured list since early August due to a toe strain, but he began a running program recently and went 5-for-14 with three doubles, two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in four rehab games. He'll start in left field and bat seventh in Monday's series opener against the Rangers.
Aug 28 2021Tapia (toe) is expected to return from the injured list for Monday's game against the Rangers, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has been out since early August with a strained big toe, but he's nearly ready to return after going 3-for-6 with a steal in a pair of rehab games. The Rockies seem confident in his ability to run, as they're considering starting him in center field down the stretch to keep Connor Joe in the lineup in left.
Aug 23 2021Tapia (toe) was spotted running in the infield prior to Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Diamondbacks, the Associated Press reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia initiated a running program Friday, when he did some sprinting in the outfield. The 27-year-old added more change-of-direction running to the mix Sunday when he moved his workout to the infield, but he'll still need to prove he can sprint out of the batter's box without discomfort before the Rockies sent him out on a rehab assignment. Tapia doesn't look like he's on pace to return from the 10-day injured list at any point during the Rockies' upcoming six-game week, but he could be reinstated when rosters expand Sept. 1.
Aug 18 2021Tapia said he plans to test out his strained right big toe by running on the field Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has been throwing regularly since the Rockies placed him on the injured list Aug. 10, but how he fares during a running program will provide a better barometer of where he stands in his recovery from the toe issue. While Tapia has been on the shelf, Connor Joe has taken over as the Rockies' everyday left fielder and has been running hot at the plate with a .361 on-base average and two home runs over the past week of action.
Aug 10 2021Tapia (toe) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right big toe strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had been hot at the plate, hitting .390 in his last 41 at-bats before exiting Sunday's contest with the toe injury. It's unclear how long he'll spend on the IL and, further, if he'll require a rehab assignment before returning. Taylor Motter was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
Aug 8 2021Tapia was removed from Sunday's win over the Marlins due to a sprained big toe, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia went hitless in his lone at-bat to begin Sunday's contest, and he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the bottom of the second inning. The left fielder missed two games last weekend due to his toe injury, and manager Bud Black said Sunday that the 27-year-old will be evaluated to make sure he isn't dealing with more than a sprain.
Aug 7 2021Tapia isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia returned from a toe injury Tuesday and went 6-for-20 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI across the last four games. Connor Joe will start in left field and bat seventh.
Aug 5 2021Tapia went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored Wednesday in the Rockies' 3-2 loss to the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In addition to his accomplishments at the plate, Tapia nearly saved the game for the Rockies on the defensive end. Unfortunately for Tapia, he was unable to secure a deep fly ball to left field off the bat of Patrick Wisdom, with the ball falling out of his glove when he made contact with the fence to go for a bases-clearing double. The three-run hit proved to be the difference in the game. Tapia is hitting well over his past nine games with a 1.002 OPS, four RBI, seven runs and three stolen bases.
Aug 3 2021Tapia (toe) is starting and leading off and playing left field Tuesday against the Cubs, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia missed the previous two games with a sprained big toe, but he feels good enough to give it a go Tuesday. The outfielder enters the contest on a five-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 12-for-26 with two doubles, three RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases.
Aug 1 2021Tapia (toe) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia didn't start Saturday due to a sprained big toe and won't be back in the starting nine Sunday. He'll have Monday's scheduled off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing more time. Connor Joe will start in left field in his place.
Jul 31 2021Tapia isn't starting Saturday's game against the Padres due to a sprained big toe, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had recorded multi-hit performances in three of the last four games, but he apparently sustained a toe injury that will keep him out of Saturday's lineup. Connor Joe will start in left field and bat sixth.
Jul 29 2021Tapia went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia got things rolling quickly with a leadoff double and stole third before he scored on a homer from Trevor Story. The 27-year-old added two base hits and drove in two runs with a double in the seventh. Tapia is two doubles off from setting his new season high and already has more stolen bases than his past two years combined. He's been a solid contributor across the board, slashing .285/.340/.386 with five homers, 43 RBI, 58 runs scored, 19 steals and 32:55 BB:K over 401 plate appearances.
Jul 26 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a pair of stolen bases in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia relied mostly on his legs to help manufacture the game's first run in the top of the first inning. After drawing a leadoff walk on five pitches, Tapia stole second base, advanced to third on a Brendan Rodgers groundout and then came around to score on Trevor Story's base hit. The outfielder would add his second steal of the game following his infield single in the fifth inning, bringing his stolen base total up to 18 on the season. That output doubles up Tapia's next-best mark from any of his first five years in the big leagues.
Jul 21 2021Tapia (undisclosed) is starting Wednesday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had been out of the lineup during each of the last three games, but he appeared as a pinch hitter and drew a walk in Tuesday's loss to Seattle. He'll lead off in his return to the starting nine Wednesday.
Jul 20 2021Tapia (undisclosed) remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the Mariners but will resume baseball activities prior to the game, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's still not clear what has kept Tapia out of the lineup for the past three games. He will remain out of the starting nine Tuesday, but his participation in baseball activities indicates that he has a chance to be back in the lineup for Wednesday's series finale.
Jul 18 2021Tapia (undisclosed) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It remains unclear what is causing Tapia's absence from the lineup after he was a late scratch Saturday. The Rockies have a day off Monday, so perhaps the outfielder will be ready to return from whatever he's dealing with Tuesday against Seattle. Chris Owings is playing left field and batting eighth Sunday.
Jul 17 2021Tapia was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers for a currently unknown reason. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was originally slated to bat leadoff as the left fielder, but now he's absent from the starting nine for the second game in a row. While the Rockies have not formally announced why the outfielder was removed from the lineup, all signs point toward him dealing with some sort of issue. The club figures to provide an update later Saturday.
Jul 16 2021Tapia isn't starting Friday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drew seven straight starts ahead of the All-Star break, but he'll retreat to the bench in the Rockies' first game back. Chris Owings will start in left field and bat eighth.
Jul 10 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with a run, two walks and two stolen bases in a 3-0 victory over the Padres on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia reached base and stole second in the first and third, scored in the fifth and walked in the seventh to reach base three times for the first time in July. The lefty now has 10 steals since the start of June and a career high 15,which ranks eighth in the majors.
Jul 7 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia came up with an RBI single in the fifth inning to plate Colorado's second run. He subsequently swiped second base, but the Rockies were unable to bring him home. Through five games in July, Tapia is batting .308 (4-for-13) with a pair of runs and a pair of steals.
Jul 5 2021Tapia went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia notched a pair of singles Sunday afternoon and ended up crossing home to tie the game up in the eighth. He also recorded his 12th steal of the year and has double-digit steals for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old is turning in another productive season, slashing .292/.340/.401 with five homers, 38 RBI, 50 runs scored and a 24:46 BB:K over 338 plate appearances.
Jul 3 2021Tapia isn't starting Saturday against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-4 with a walk in Friday's loss. Yonathan Daza will shift to left field while Garrett Hampson takes over in center.
Jul 1 2021Tapia isn't starting Thursday's game against the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will get a breather after he went 2-for-9 with a double, two runs, two RBI, a stolen base and a walk across the last two games. Yonathan Daza will start in left field while Garrett Hampson starts in center.
Jun 27 2021Tapia is out of the lineup Sunday at Milwaukee, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started the past 12 games and will head to the bench after posting an .849 OPS during that stretch. Yonathan Daza, Garrett Hampson and Chris Owings will start from left to right in the outfield.
Jun 19 2021Tapia went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia's June tear continued, as he upped his hitting streak to 16 games. The outfielder has gone 32-for-73 (.438) with two stolen bases, four doubles, 10 RBI and 20 runs scored during the streak. While he hasn't shown over-the-fence power lately, he's produced good overall numbers during an extended surge.
Jun 17 2021Tapia went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 7-3 win over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The outfielder extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Tapia is now 28-for-64 (.438) during the streak. He added a walk and a stolen base in the eighth inning. The speedy 27-year-old has a .298/.342/.419 slash line with five home runs, 34 RBI, 39 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 10 attempts this year.
Jun 16 2021Tapia went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 win over San Diego. The massive surge has lifted the outfielder's slash line to .299/.341/.421 in 273 plate appearances this year. He's added five home runs, 33 RBI, 38 runs scored and six stolen bases in nine attempts. He'll look to keep up the hot hitting as Colorado opens a four-game series versus Milwaukee on Thursday.
Jun 15 2021Tapia went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has been one of the hottest hitters in the National League this month and extended his hitting streak to 12 games with another multi-hit effort -- he has recorded two or more knocks in eight of those 12 contests. The outfielder is hitting .436 with 10 doubles, seven RBI and 14 runs scored during this sizzling 12-game stretch.
Jun 13 2021Tapia went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was one of four Colorado players that reached base at least twice Sunday in what was an anemic showing for the Rockies offense (6-for-32 as a team). In fact, he was the only player who notched more than one hit. The outfielder has been one of the most productive hitters in baseball over the last two weeks, notching a 10-game hitting streak that includes seven multi-hit appearances. He's gone 21-for-46 (.456) during that sizzling run.
Jun 12 2021Tapia will not start Saturday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia sits after starting 13 straight contests. He's riding a nine-game hitting streak, a stretch in which he's hit .463 with a 1.122 OPS. Connor Joe starts in left field in his absence.

The 26-year-old is slashing .261/.317/.367 in 204 plate appearances. Despite being the primary leadoff hitter, he has more RBI (29) than runs (23). His 29 RBI are second on his team behind Ryan McMahon's 32. In addition, Tapia has five long balls in the 2021 campaign.
May 27 2021Tapia isn't starting Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia went 0-for-3 while leading off in Thursday's matinee. Connor Joe will take over in left field and bat seventh.
May 21 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Friday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia slammed his fifth home run of the season off Seth Frankoff in the second inning Friday. Prior to the home run, Tapia was 1-for-16 in his last five games. May 18 2021Tapia is not in the lineup Tuesday at San Diego. The 27-year-old will take a seat Tuesday with lefty Blake Snell on the mound for the Friars.
May 15 2021Tapia (thumb) will return to the lineup Saturday against Cincinnati, leading off and playing left field, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was scratched from Friday's lineup with a left thumb injury, but the issue evidently isn't serious enough to sideline him for more than one game. He's good to go after taking the precious day off and will look to build on a recent stretch which has seen him hit .353 with four steals in his last 13 games.
May 14 2021Tapia was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds with a left thumb issue, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While he initially wasn't sure which hand was bothering Tapia, manager Bud Black later specified that it's Tapia left hand/thumb area. Per Danielle Allentuck of the Denver Gazette, the injury isn't believed to be serious and Tapia tried to hit in the cage earlier in the day. The staff decided he could use a day to rest and get treatment.
May 12 2021Tapia went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in a 5-3 loss to San Diego in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia got aboard with a single and stole second in the fifth inning. The hot-hitting outfielder has gone 16-for-43 (.372) over his last 11 contests. Apr 26 2021Tapia went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 12-2 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia did most of his damage during a seven-run fourth inning when he notched a two-RBI single with the bases loaded and then later came around to score on a Trevor Story grand slam. The 27-year-old Tapia is currently riding a seven-game hit streak and sports a slash line of .306/.363/.458 with three home runs, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and a 7:7 BB:K this season.
Apr 23 2021Tapia went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in a victory over the Phillies on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia came up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with a pair of singles already on his ledger, and he proceed to notch the biggest hit of the evening with a solo shot off Hector Neris to provide the walkoff win. The blast was Tapia's third this season after going deep just once in 204 plate appearance in 2020. The 27-year-old has registered a sub-10-percent strikeout rate on the campaign while slashing .297/.352/.453.
Apr 17 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Jacob deGrom deep in the fifth inning, capping a three-run outburst that put the Rockies in position to win before a bullpen meltdown. Tapia has yet to get rolling at the plate, and through 14 games he's slashing .260/.302/.380 with two homers and five RBI.
Apr 15 2021Tapia went 2-for-4 with a walk in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now at .286, Tapia's average has been steadily rising after an unremarkable first few games of the season. The outfielder's production figures to improve when Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon, who hit behind Tapia in the order, begin posting their expected offensive numbers. Tapia doesn't take many walks, but he's struck out only six times in 42 at-bats and has the contact skills to repeat his strong 2020 season and become a force in the Colorado lineup.
Apr 7 2021Tapia is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After recently returning from a stiff neck, the lefty-hitting Tapia will head to the bench Wednesday with southpaw Madison Bumgarner on the bump for Arizona. The right-handed Chris Owings fills in for Tapia in left field, batting second.
Apr 6 2021Tapia (neck) is back in the lineup Tuesday against Arizona, leading off and playing left field. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia sat Sunday against the Dodgers due to a sore neck, though he did appear off the bench, striking out in his lone plate appearance. He's good to go from the start of this one following Monday's off day.
Apr 4 2021Tapia's neck is still sore but he is doing better and will be available Sunday against the Dodgers, if needed, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A collision with the outfield wall Saturday resulted in symptoms of whiplash for Tapia. He is out of the lineup Sunday and it sounds like he's only available in an emergency, but fortunately, it seems he avoided a concussion. The Rockies have an off-day Monday before they welcome the Diamondbacks for a three-game set.
Apr 3 2021Tapia went 1-for-3 with a home run in Saturday's loss against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia might have connected on his first homer of the season when he took Walker Buehler deep in the third inning with two outs, but he will undoubtedly be remembered for his defensive mistake that allowed the inside-the-park homer of Zach McKinstry. Tapia has hit safely in each of the Rockies' first three games, but he's still looking for his first multi-hit game of the campaign.
Mar 3 2021Tapia went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 10-7 spring win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia hit just one home run last season, but he put the Rockies on the board Wednesday with a homer to left field in the third inning. Tapia has been effective at hitting for average over the past two years, as he hit .289 over 189 games during that time. He's effective at making contact with balls outside the zone, but he's also struggled with meaningful contact since he chases so many pitches. However, the 27-year-old's plate discipline has improved over the past few seasons, and the Rockies are hopeful that he'll develop more power if he continues to shift his approach at the plate, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Jan 15 2021Tapia and the Rockies agreed to a one-year, $1.95 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia started 48 games in last year's shortened season, hitting .321/.369/.402 with one homer and eight steals. That slash line translates to an unimpressive 96 wRC+ when Coors Field is factored in, but he'll remain an interesting enough fantasy option as long as he remains a regular in Colorado given the boost his home park provides.
Sep 24 2020Tapia went 1-for-5 with an RBI single, sacrifice fly and stolen base in the 5-4 win over the Giants on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drove in Ryan McMahon in the fourth and stole his eight base later in the inning. The outfielder later came up with the game-winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 11th. Tapia is slashing .296/.348/.367 on the campaign.
Sep 15 2020Tapia (head) will lead off and play left field Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Dizziness forced Tapia to exit Sunday's game against the Angels, but he's ready to go following Monday's off day. He hasn't shown much power this season, but his .302/.371/.381 slash line is nevertheless decent.
Sep 13 2020Manager Bud Black said that Tapia was removed after four innings in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Angels after experiencing dizziness during the contest, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. He went 1-for-2 with a base hit and a run scored before departing. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bud Black said that Tapia was feeling ill prior to Sunday's game, and he was dizzy after he made a diving catch in the third inning. He was removed from the game as a result. The Rockies are off Monday, so Tapia will get a full day to recover before the team determines whether he's fit to play Tuesday against the Athletics.
Sep 11 2020Tapia went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia led off the first inning with a single and stole second, but didn't score. In the fifth, he singled again and scored on a Trevor Story triple. Tapia has been solid in his last six games, going 8-for-27 (.296) with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored. That's right in line with his seasonal production -- he's slashing .300/.372/.383 with five stolen bases, a homer, 12 RBI and 16 runs scored in 15 games. The outfielder's productive hitting lately has him batting leadoff ahead of Story and Charlie Blackmon.
Sep 6 2020Tapia went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three hits were singles. Tapia's biggest contribution to the offense came in the fifth inning, when he knocked in Garrett Hampson with a single and then came around to score on Nolan Arenado's single. The 26-year-old Tapia has hit safely in nine straight games, going 14-for-37 (.378) with five RBI, a homer, and six runs scored in that span.
Sep 4 2020Tapia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Friday's loss at Dodger Stadium. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia cranked open the scoring with a solo homer against Dustin May in the first inning. It was the first home run of the season for the 26-year-old, who has now hit safely across seven games. On the season, he's batting .301/.391/.398.
Sep 2 2020Tapia will serve as the Rockies' designated hitter and will bat leadoff Wednesday against the Giants, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia looks to be firmly locked in as the Rockies' table setter at this point, as he'll be occupying the top spot in the lineup for the 12th spot in 13 games. He enters Wednesday's series finale with a five-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 7-for-20 with three RBI and two runs.
Aug 27 2020Tapia (elbow) is starting in left field and hitting leadoff Thursday against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has been cleared to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's series finale after missing Wednesday's game with an elbow injury. Over his past 10 games, Tapia is 12-for-36 with three stolen bases and an 8:4 BB:K.
Aug 26 2020Tapia was a late scratch Wednesday against the Diamondbacks due to a right elbow contusion. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was slated to bat leadoff and start in left field, and it remains unclear when he picked up the elbow injury. Tapia should be considered day-to-day until the team provides more information on the injury. Sam Hilliard will start in left field in his place.
Aug 24 2020Tapia went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a stolen base in Monday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of Tapia's hits were singles, and none were bigger than the one in the fifth inning that scored Tony Wolters for the go-ahead run. Tapia then stole second base, but failed to score in that same inning. The outfielder is slashing .306/.397/.355 with four steals, seven RBI and nine runs scored in 21 contests this year.
Aug 22 2020Tapia went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia walked and stole second in the first inning, but he wasn't able to score, and he didn't get back on base. The left fielder is slashing .288/.397/.346 with three steals, six RBI and nine runs scored in 63 plate appearances. He's shown improved plate discipline this year, cutting his strikeout rate from 22.4 percent in 2019 to 17.4 percent in 2020. He's also boosted his walk rate from 4.7 percent (2019) to 15.9 percent (2020).
Aug 20 2020Tapia will start in left field and bat leadoff Thursday against the Astros, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will pick up his ninth consecutive start Thursday after going 11-for-27 (.407 average) with six runs, five RBI and two stolen bases over the prior eight games. With David Dahl (back) moving to the injured list Wednesday, Tapia looks like he'll at least have a clear path to a large-side platoon role in the short term.
Aug 17 2020Tapia went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia drew a walk in the second inning and then stole second. That was his second stolen base of the year. For the season, Tapia is slashing .278/.341/.361 with four RBI and seven runs scored in 41 plate appearances.
Aug 15 2020Tapia will start in left field and bat seventh against the Rangers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia failed to record a hit Friday night against Lance Lynn but will get another start Saturday. The 26-year-old outfielder will be making his fourth start in five games.
Aug 11 2020Tapia went 3-for-4 with a two-RBI double, a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia got aboard with a single and stole second in the third inning, but couldn't come around to score. He made a bigger contribution in the Rockies' six-run eighth inning, plating two with a double before scoring what would be the decisive run of the game on a Tony Wolters single. The 26-yea-rold Tapia now has a steal, three RBI, three runs scored and a .250 batting average across 22 plate appearances.
Aug 4 2020Tapia is not starting Tuesday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia has now started just four of the Rockies' first 10 games and has been on the bench for four straight, with Matt Kemp serving as the designated hitter each time. Tapia has just two hits on the season, which hardly helps his case for regular at-bats.
Aug 3 2020Tapia is not in the lineup Monday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia will take a seat for the fourth time in the past five games as he's been in a slump to begin the year. Matt Kemp will once again serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh Monday.
Aug 2 2020Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia hits the bench for the third time in the last four games as he is 2-for-13 to begin the season. Matt Kemp will serve as the designated hitter Sunday and could seize the everyday role if he continues his strong start.
Jul 29 2020Tapia is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Oakland, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia hits the bench for the second time in the first five games, finding himself out of the lineup against a righty (Frankie Montas) for the first time. Sam Hilliard will start in left field, while Daniel Murphy rests his legs as the designated hitter.
Jul 14 2020Tapia should begin the season as Colorado's starting left fielder, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Potential platoon-mate Ian Desmond is opting out of the shortened season, providing Tapia the opportunity to seize control of the starting gig in left field. The 26-year-old had a .275/.309/.415 slash line with nine home runs and nine stolen bases in 138 games last season. Sam Hilliard, the organization's top prospect, could receive a look if Tapia is unable to take advantage of the situation early on.
Mar 20 2020Tapia could begin the season in a platoon in left field with Ian Desmond, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia spent the offseason trying to bulk up, and reportedly came into camp with 15-20 pounds of extra muscle. He put that to good use by hitting .355/.394/.613 across 33 plate appearances in Cactus League action. Even so, he'll have to hold off Sam Hilliard, another candidate for playing time in left field.
Sep 29 2019Tapia went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both of Tapia's runs came late in the game, including the game-tying run in the ninth to send it to extras. The 25-year-old finishes the 2019 campaign with nine homers and nine stolen bases with 54 runs scored.
Sep 27 2019Tapia launched a grand slam during his only at-bat in Friday's win over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Tapia came in to pinch hit and launched a grand slam. It was his ninth long ball of the season, his fourth pinch-hit homer and the second pinch-hit grand slam of his career. After a strong second half to the season, the 25-year-old outfielder is batting .276/.311/.419. If he is able to lock in a consistent spot in the lineup, Tapia may hold underrated potential for the 2020 campaign.
Sep 21 2019Tapia went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia's contributions came in the third inning, as he plated Garrett Hampson with a single, then stole second base. Tapia completed the lap around the bases on a Charlie Blackmon single. The outfielder has a .279/.315/.417 slash line with eight steals, eight homers, 40 RBI and 50 runs scored in 131 games, but recent hand and knee injuries have hampered his ability to stay in the lineup.
Sep 16 2019Tapia (knee) went 1-for-5 with a stolen base Sunday in the Rockies' 10-5 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia had been on the bench for the Rockies' previous three contests after fouling a ball off himself Wednesday, but his stolen base in the bottom of the first inning indicates the knee injury is no longer a concern. He'll be out of the lineup Monday against the Mets, but that's probably a result of a lefty (Steven Matz) being on the mound for the opposition more than anything else.
Sep 15 2019Tapia (knee) is starting in left field and batting second Sunday against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was withheld from the lineup the last two games after leaving Thursday's contest with a sore right knee, but he's ready to go for the series finale. The 25-year-old is 1-for-18 over eight games in September.
Sep 14 2019Tapia (knee) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia is set to miss a third straight start after fouling a ball off his knee Wednesday. Garrett Hampson is starting again against a lefty. It will be between Tapia and Sam Hilliard for starts in center against right-handed pitching moving forward, with David Dahl (ankle) ruled out for the rest of the season.
Sep 13 2019Tapia (knee) isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's game against San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia was scratched from Thursday's starting nine due to right knee soreness, and he'll remain on the bench Friday. He'll continue to be considered day-to-day.
Sep 12 2019Tapia (knee) was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Cardinals, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tapia is apparently still sore after fouling a ball off his right knee Wednesday, so he'll head to the bench for Thursday's series finale as Yonathan Daza enters the lineup in his place.
Sep 8 2019Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After returning from the injured list Tuesday, Tapia started in two of the Rockies' four games, going hitless across 11 at-bats. So long as David Dahl (ankle) remains on the shelf, Tapia, Ian Desmond, Garrett Hampson and Sam Hilliard will likely vie for two spots in the outfield in most contests alongside right fielder Charlie Blackmon.
Sep 3 2019Tapia (hand) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As predicted, Tapia will return from the IL on Tuesday, though he's not in the starting lineup. He'd been sidelined by a left hand injury.
Sep 2 2019Tapia (hand) might be activated from the injured list Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Aug 26 2019Colorado placed Tapia (hand) on the 10-day injured list Monday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Aug 25 2019Tapia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a hand injury, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Aug 13 2019Tapia went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run Monday in the Rockies' 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Aug 6 2019Tapia went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in the Rockies' 11-6 defeat to the Astros on Tuesday.

Jul 21 2018Tapia supplied a pinch-hit grand slam Friday in the Rockies' 11-10 win over the Diamondbacks.Tapia's first home run of the season proved to be the decisive hit of the night, as it vaulted the Rockies to an 11-8 lead in the seventh inning. Though he's slashed .283/.326/.410 across 228 career plate appearances in the majors, Tapia seems unlikely to pick up consistent at-bats any time soon due to the crowding in the Colorado outfield. Since being promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque on June 30, Tapia has started in just two of the Rockies' 15 games.
Jun 30 2018Tapia was promoted to the major leagues Saturday.Tapia has yet to appear in the big leagues this season. In 92 major-league games over the past two seasons, the young outfielder has hit a mediocre .283/.322/.394. He's hitting .308/.353/.527 in 74 games for Triple-A Albuquerque this year. Jon Gray was optioned in a surprising corresponding move.
Mar 14 2018Tapia's chances of breaking camp with the major-league club decreased following the signing of Carlos Gonzalez, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Tapia was initially in the conversation for a starting outfield role, but with a veteran run producer now in camp to combine with Charlie Blackmon, Ian Desmond and Gerardo Parra in the outfield, the outfield may be too crowded for Tapia to remain in Colorado. The 24-year-old may begin the season at Triple-A Albuquerque in order to get consistent at-bats, but his speed (17-for-21 in stolen base attempts last season) and contact ability (80 percent contact rate this spring) could help him land a bench role.
Feb 19 2018Tapia gained 15 pounds over the offseason as he attempts to garner a starting outfield spot, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old speed demon produced well both at Triple-A and in the majors, sporting a .926 and .754 OPS at those levels, respectively. He also displayed his excellent speed, going 17-for-21 in stolen base attempts between the two levels. Although he has a lot going for him, Tapia still doesn't seem to be in line for a full-time role. Charlie Blackmon is entrenched in center, while Ian Desmond seems to be the primary left fielder heading into the season given that the Rockies are expected to give Ryan McMahon the chance to act as the starting first baseman. This leaves Tapia, Gerardo Parra (hand) and David Dahl to compete for reps in right field, a battle which seems to be primarily between the latter two. Naturally, things can change during spring training, whether it be injuries (such as Parra's hand surgery) or struggles at the plate by other players. For now though, it seems like Tapia is more in line for a reserve outfield role unless injuries strike or if Desmond or Parra are forced into more action at first base.
Oct 3 2017Tapia went 9-for-25 (.360) with five RBI and five runs scored in the month of September. The young outfielder did a lot of his damage in a reserve role due to the Rockies' postseason race, but he still managed to raise his season slash line to .288/.329/.425 by the regular season's end. Carlos Gonzalez's potential departure prior to the 2018 season could open up a spot for Tapia to get regular playing time, which means we could finally get to see if he can translate his gaudy minor-league numbers to the big leagues in an everyday role. His role for 2018 should become clearer once spring training draws closer.
Sep 7 2017Tapia was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.Tapia will rejoin the Rockies after finishing his season at Albuquerque with an impressive .369/.397/.529 line in 58 games. The 23-year-old spent some time with the big club earlier in the season, slashing a respectable .274/.324/.407 in 53 games, so he figures to see at-bats down the stretch as a reserve outfielder.
Aug 22 2017The Rockies recalled Tapia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. He'll assume the active roster spot of fellow outfielder Mike Tauchman, who was optioned to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. With a .287 average, 12 extra-base hits and five steals in 133 plate appearances across multiple stints with the Rockies earlier this season, Tapia could have some appeal in NL-only formats or deeper mixed leagues if he's able to find regular playing time.
Aug 11 2017Tapia was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.Despite slashing .318/.362/.545 with a .907 OPS over the month of July, the young outfielder has seen a rough decline in playing time recently thanks to the hot hitting of Gerardo Parra. Tapia should see more at-bats down in the minors -- where he was batting .349 with 25 RBI before being called up -- and presents a viable option for a promotion when rosters expand in September. Ryan McMahon was recalled in a corresponding move to provide infield depth.
Jul 29 2017Tapia was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. This marks Tapia's fourth stint with the big-league team this year. He played regularly from mid-June until the All-Star break and fared well at the plate, but with Gerardo Parra, Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez all presumed to be healthy, there doesn't appear to be a path to regular at-bats for Tapia. If regular starts were to open up, Tapia would become an appealing add in a variety of formats given his speed and contact skills.
Jul 16 2017Tapia is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mets, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The recent returns of Gerardo Parra (quad) and Carlos Gonzalez (shoulder) from injury had resulted in Tapia making one start over the last three games, and his chances of reemerging as a regular in the lineup will only grow more difficult now that Ian Desmond (hamstring) is healthy again. It wouldn't be surprising if Tapia was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque the next time the Rockies need to bring up a pitcher from the minors.
Jul 9 2017Tapia is out of Sunday's lineup against the White Sox.He will take a seat in favor of Gerardo Parra for the final game of the first half. Tapia is hitting .377/.407/.571 with two home runs and two steals over his last 77 at-bats, which should lock him into pretty regular playing time to start the second half of the season.
Jul 4 2017Tapia will start in left field and bat second in Tuesday's game against the Reds, Jenny Cavnar of Root Sports Rocky Mountain reports.Tapia, who is making his fifth consecutive start, will move up four spots in the order after falling a single short of the cycle in the series opener Monday. It will only be a short-term assignment in the upper third of the lineup with DJ LeMahieu receiving the night off, but Tapia should continue to see regular at-bats through the All-Star break following Ian Desmond's (calf) recent move to the disabled list.
Jul 2 2017Tapia will start in right field and bat sixth Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. With starts in eight of the previous nine games, Tapia seems to have emerged as the team's primary option in right field while Carlos Gonzalez (shoulder) remains sidelined. The 23-year-old has maintained a .296/.351/.408 line over 77 plate appearances this season and could be worth a short-term look in deep mixed leagues where available until Gonzalez comes off the disabled list.
Jun 15 2017Tapia went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Pirates. He had gone just 2-for-19 in the majors this season prior to Wednesday's outburst. The 23-year-old managed to avoid a demotion last week when Alexi Amarista returned from the paternity list, but Tapia will need to continue raking if he wants to avoid being sent back to Triple-A the next time the Rockies have a roster crunch.
Jun 6 2017Tapia was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.A roster spot opened up when Alexi Amarista (personal) was placed on the paternity list, so Tapia will shuttle back to the majors to add depth to the bench. Amarista will only be away from the team for three days at most, however, so the top prospect's stay in Colorado may be brief this time around.
May 12 2017Tapia was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.Although he has yet to pick up a hit in the majors this season, Tapia has been tearing Triple-A pitching apart. He currently holds a .400/.434/.583 slash line with 15 doubles, three triples and 20 RBI in 25 games for the Isotopes, so it was inevitable that the Rockies would give him another shot in the big leagues. However, with Mark Reynolds playing well, Ian Desmond is currently inhabiting left field on a regular basis, which could squeeze Tapia out of playing time unless they choose to play him over the highly-paid slugger Carlos Gonzalez. It's unclear how the Rockies plan to manage this situation, but things should become clear after a few games.
