Benintendi is posting excellent cross-category numbers and living up to the hype he garnered entering his first full campaign in the majors. It's also worth noting that Bentendi has been particularly hot in June with five homers and 13 RBI.

The two stolen bags give him five for the season.The Red Sox had been reeling, losers of three straight to Oakland, and unleashed the dogs on the basepaths Sunday. In toto, Boston stole five bases with Benintendi leading the way. This is not typically how Boston likes to operate but the offense has been spotty all season, and it worked out well for this one day. Whether or not there's been a change of philosophy, we'll have to wait and see. One other note, Red Sox manager John Farrell had Benintendi back in the cleanup spot Sunday after a one-day drop to the six-hole.

May 17 2017Benintendi was hitless in two at-bats Tuesday and is 0-for-21 over this last six games.Boston's cleanup hitter is grinding through the first major slump of his MLB career. Benintendi doesn't have a track record at the major-league level, so we can't confidently proclaim he'll snap out of his current funk. Pitchers have been working him down and away of late, per BrooksBaseball.net, and he's expanded the zone a bit, but there are signs that this isn't the "a-ha" moment for pitchers who think they may have the book on the rookie. Benintendi's slumps in the minor leagues have tended to be brief and during his current six-game fallow period, he's struck out only three times while accepting four walks. The plate approach remains sound, and he's displayed the ability to adjust in the minors.
