Apr 8 2024Davies signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies will report to Triple-A Omaha where he figures to serve as starting pitching depth. He made 18 starts for Arizona a season ago, accruing a 7.00 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with 72 strikeouts over 82.1 innings.
Mar 22 2024Davies was released by the Nationals on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was informed he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster and presumably then triggered the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract. He should be able to latch on with another club in search of rotation depth.
Sep 29 2023Davies was released by the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment Wednesday and will get an early start to free agency. The 30-year-old right-hander struggled to a 7.00 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 82.1 innings (18 starts) this season with Arizona.
Sep 27 2023Davies was designated for assignment Wednesday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move comes one day after Davies yielded four runs over just three innings in Arizona's win over the White Sox. He didn't go more than four frames in any of his last four outings and heads to the waiver wire having posted a 7.00 ERA over 18 starts this season. Ryne Nelson pitched well in relief of Davies on Tuesday and could now take his spot in the rotation Sunday. Davies has a $5.5 million mutual option or $300,000 buyout for 2024, so the Diamondbacks will pay that latter figure.
Sep 26 2023Davies did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over three innings against the White Sox. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite being 10 days removed from his last start due to a postponement, Davies failed to go deeper than three frames Tuesday. He was immediately tagged by Eloy Jimenez for a three-run homer in the first inning, then was hit again by Jimenez in the second inning on an RBI single. Davies has now lasted four or fewer innings in four consecutive outings, a stretch in which he's surrendered at least three runs in every start. The veteran is lined up to make one more start this season, which is expected to come Sunday against the Astros.
Sep 23 2023Davies' scheduled start Saturday against the Yankees has been postponed due to rain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The game will be moved to Monday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports, pushing the start of next week's series against the White Sox from Monday to Tuesday. The Diamondbacks have yet to announce their updated rotation plans.
Sep 16 2023Davies allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has labored over his last three starts, allowing 11 runs across 11 innings, going no more than four innings in each of those appearances. The 30-year-old right-hander is now at a 6.81 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 69:38 K:BB through 79.1 innings across 17 starts this season. He's projected for a road start versus the Yankees next weekend.
Sep 11 2023Davies did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over four innings against the Mets. He struck out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies held the Mets off the board through his first three innings before surrendering three runs in the fourth on a Jeff McNeil homer and a Ronny Mauricio two-run double. The 30-year-old Davies has now given up eight runs in his last two outings (seven innings). Overall, he's 2-5 with a 6.81 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 64:36 K:BB through 16 starts (75.1 innings) this season. Davies is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Cubs in his next outing.
Sep 6 2023Davies did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over three innings against Colorado. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a rough outing for Davies, who had allowed just two runs over his previous two starts (11 innings). The Rockies got to him early Wednesday, scoring four times in the first inning after the first four batters reached safely. Overall, Davies is 2-5 with an unsightly 6.81 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 59:33 K:BB across 15 starts (71.1 innings) this season. He'll look to get on track in his next start, currently scheduled for early next week against the Mets.
Sep 1 2023Davies (2-5) allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to earn the win Friday over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has allowed a combined two runs over 11 innings since returning from a back injury. His win Friday was his first since June 7. The right-hander finally appears to be in his best form after an injury-plagued season that has seen him record a 6.45 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 57:30 K:BB over 68.1 innings across 14 starts. He's tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Rockies next week.
Aug 26 2023Davies (back) allowed a run on five hits and two walks while striking out five over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was solid in his return from lower-back inflammation, with his lone mistake being a solo home run by Matt McLain in the sixth inning. Davies threw 86 pitches (54 strikes) in the start, his sharpest since he posted seven shutout innings against the Rays on June 28. The veteran right-hander has had more downs than ups in 2023, pitching to a 6.93 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 51:29 K:BB through 62.1 innings over 13 starts. He's projected for a tough home start versus Baltimore next week.
Aug 22 2023Davies (back) is scheduled to return to the Diamondbacks' rotation Saturday at home against the Reds, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies got the go-ahead Tuesday after throwing 87 pitches over six innings in his third and final minor-league rehab outing Sunday with Triple-A Reno. The 30-year-old right-hander has been on the injured list since July 19 due to lower-back inflammation. He's posted a rough 7.38 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 12 major-league starts this season.
Aug 19 2023Davies (back) will make a third rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies is on schedule to pitch Sunday and was Arizona's likely starter in San Diego, but that game was moved up to Saturday as part of a doubleheader due to the impending hurricane scheduled to make landfall in Southern California on Sunday. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Davies won't start Saturday, so the right-hander will instead make another rehab start in Reno before returning from the 15-day injured list.
Aug 18 2023Davies (back) is ready to return from the 15-day injured list and could start Sunday against the Padres, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The caveat to Davies pitching in San Diego is the weather. Hurricane Hilary is gaining strength off the coast of Mexico and is expected to bring heavy rains to Southern California on Sunday. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo indicated that he wants Davies to throw that day and implied the right-hander could make another rehab start in the minors if the Diamondbacks are rained out. If the right-hander doesn't get activated Sunday, then his return to Arizona's rotation would be pushed back to the following weekend for a home series versus the Reds.
Aug 17 2023Arizona manager Torey Lovullo would not commit to activating Davies (back) for a start Sunday, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies had a second rehab start Tuesday, throwing 80 pitches, which lines up perfectly for a Sunday return, but the skipper isn't ready to make that decision. "We're just gonna evaluate him day to day," Lovullo said. "He's gonna rejoin us at some point. When that happens, we're not sure." Perhaps the results of Tuesday's start linger with the manager. The right-hander allowed seven runs on 11 hits with just two strikeouts in three innings. Lovullo was encouraged that Davies pitched with more of a gameplan following a five-run first inning, then added he wants to make sure Davies is feeling good following the outing.
Aug 16 2023Davies (back) allowed seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies made his second rehab start in advance of what could be an activation this weekend. The organization seemed intent on having the right-hander up his pitch count regardless of the results. He threw 80 pitches and appears to be stretched out enough to rejoin the club and start Sunday, if the Diamondbacks choose to keep in the rotation. Davies has a 7.38 ERA over 12 starts.
Aug 14 2023Davies (back) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies will be making his second rehab start after throwing 4.1 innings last Thursday for the Aces. It looks like the Diamondbacks may get creative with the rotation until Davies is ready to return. The club cut the cord on rookie right-hander Ryne Nelson, who was optioned back to Reno as part of a roster shakeup Sunday. That essentially leaves them with three starters -- Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly (leg) and Brandon Pfaadt. "Ryne did a good job in some of his games," Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said. "It just was wildly inconsistent for us. We ended up using a lot of bullpen in those days, anyway. The decision was, if we're using a lot of bullpen in those days, anyway, looking at it just as a traditional starter situation wasn't the right way we should be looking at it." Bryce Jarvis, a starter throughout his career, was called up Sunday and will pitch out of the bullpen. Slade Cecconi is up with the team and made one start and one relief appearance. Arizona also has Tyler Gilbert for multiple innings.
Aug 12 2023Davies (back) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies kicked off a rehab assignment, throwing 74 pitches (45 strikes). Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the right-hander will make at least one more rehab start, per MLB.com.
Aug 9 2023Davies (back) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Reno, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The date of his rehab debut has moved around a bit, but Davies is now officially locked in to return to live competition Thursday at Reno and the expectation is that will throw around 75 pitches in that start. Out since mid-July due to lower-back inflammation, he could rejoin the Diamondbacks as early as next week.
Aug 8 2023Davies (back) is on track to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Reno, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davis worked a successful simulated game over the weekend and is slated for one final bullpen session Tuesday before he heads to the farm for what would be his first live appearance since June 23. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a rough 7.38 ERA across 12 major-league starts this season, but the quickly-sinking Diamondbacks could sure use him back to at least eat some innings.
Aug 5 2023Davies (back) is scheduled to pitch a simulated game Saturday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies will throw three to four innings or about 55 pitches. The right-hander has already served the 15-day minimum and can be activated at any time.
Jul 19 2023Arizona placed Davies on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with lower-back inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies struggled mightily in his last start Tuesday at Atlanta, surrendering nine earned runs on eight hits and three walks over 3.2 innings while recording only one strikeout. He'll be sidelined until at least early August and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday to determine the full extent of the lower-back issue.
Jul 9 2023Davies (1-5) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings Sunday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Most of the damage against Davies came in the second inning when Ji-Man Choi belted a two-run shot. Davies has fallen to 0-4 over his last six starts while posting a brutal 7.85 ERA during that span. Through 11 outings, the veteran righty has registered a 6.37 ERA alongside a 45:24 K:BB through 53.2 innings.
Jul 5 2023Davies didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Mets, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The ball was flying at Chase Field, with Davies serving up two of the six homers that left the yard Tuesday afternoon, and the right-hander exited the game after 94 pitches (58 strikes) with the score tied 4-4. He'd been tagged for only one long ball in his prior seven starts combined, but that hadn't resulted in much success -- Davies had a 6.75 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 33.1 innings over that stretch. He lines up for one more start before the All-Star break, at home against the Pirates.
Jun 28 2023Davies allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three over seven scoreless innings but took a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies did an excellent job in his best and longest start of the season, but Scott McGough couldn't close it out. Over his previous three starts, Davies had allowed a combined 21 runs (18 earned) over 10.2 innings. The right-hander's recent slump is large part of why his season numbers -- 6.54 ERA, 1.62 WHIP -- are less than impressive. He's added a 33:20 K:BB over 42.2 innings through nine starts on the season. Davies' next start is projected to be a home outing versus the Mets next week.
Jun 24 2023Davies (1-4) took the loss Friday, allowing six runs on six hits and four walks over four innings against San Francisco. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies continues to struggle mightily this year, as he now has a 7.82 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 35.2 innings pitched on the season. With the Diamondbacks unexpectedly in first place, it remains to be seen whether or not the right-hander will continue to hold his spot in the rotation, as the squad may view him as a liability down the stretch. As of now, he's tentatively slated to face the Rays on Thursday for his next appearance.
Jun 18 2023Davies (1-3) allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has hit a brutal skid, allowing 15 runs (12 earned) over 6.2 innings across his last two starts. He's completed six innings just once in seven appearances this season, and he's lost three of his five starts since returning from an oblique injury. The right-hander now has a 7.11 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB through 31.2 innings on the year. He'll look to get back on track in a projected road start versus the surging Giants.
Jun 14 2023Davies (1-2) took the loss against the Phillies on Tuesday, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out four over just three innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies sandwiched in a clean second inning between giving up four runs in the first and another two in the third. It was his shortest outing of the year and his second time giving up at least four runs through six starts this season. He's struck out more than four batters just once thus far and has allowed multiple walks on four different occasions. For the year, Davies sits at an unsightly 5.46 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB over 28 innings. His next start projects to be over the weekend against the Guardians.
Jun 8 2023Davies (1-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Nationals. He struck out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies finished with season highs in innings pitched and strikeouts during his first win of the year. The right-hander has made three starts since being reinstated from the injured list at the end of May, posting a 4.02 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB during that stretch. It's a limited sample size (five starts), but Davies is putting up similar numbers as last year when he finished with a 4.09 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 102:52 K:BB over 27 appearances (134.1 innings).
Jun 1 2023Davies did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Rockies. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies didn't miss many bats Thursday but managed to hold Colorado to three runs on seven hits. The 30-year-old Davies has yet to pitch into the sixth inning through four starts this season. He's 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB. Davies is currently lined up to face the Nationals in his next outing.
May 27 2023Davies (0-1) took the loss against Boston on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 3.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies didn't figure to go deep into Saturday's start given that he hadn't pitched in the majors since April 8 due to an oblique injury, but he made his outing even briefer due to control issues. The right-hander threw just 41 of 75 pitches for a strike and walked a pair of batters, though he navigated out of trouble until giving up three singles to the first four batters he faced in the fourth. Davies was replaced after the third hit and went on to take the loss. The veteran figures to retain a spot in Arizona's rotation, but he has neither the ratios nor the strikeout numbers to be worth consideration in a majority of fantasy formats.
May 22 2023Davies (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday before the Diamondbacks determine whether he'll be activated or make another rehab start, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies struck out seven over 4.2 scoreless innings for Double-A Amarillo over the weekend. Assuming he comes out of Wednesday's bullpen session with no issues, he would appear likely to rejoin Arizona's rotation as soon as this weekend.
May 20 2023Davies (oblique) is scheduled for his first rehab start Saturday for Double-A Amarillo, the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davis has thrown bullpen sessions and in extended spring training on the road to recovery from the injury he suffered April 8. The Diamondbacks will evaluate him following Saturday's outing to determine if he'll need another rehab start before being activated from the injured list.
May 11 2023Davies (oblique) is scheduled to pitch in another extended spring training game Sunday or Monday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies tossed 34 pitches over two innings in his first extended spring training start Tuesday in Arizona and will try to work four innings or around 55 pitches in his second outing. The 30-year-old right-hander is almost fully recovered from the oblique strain he suffered in early April and should be an option for the Diamondbacks' rotation later this month.
May 10 2023Davies (oblique) threw two innings and 34 pitches in an extended spring training start Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This marked Davies' first action since he suffered a left oblique strain in the second week of the season. The right-hander is on target to pitch again in five or six days, when the Diamondbacks plan to stretch him out to 50 or 55 pitches.
May 5 2023Davies (oblique) threw a 41-pitch bullpen before Friday's game against the Nationals, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The next step according to Mackie is having him pitch in the Arizona Complex League for his next outing. That'll be the first time Davies pitches in a live situation since he suffered his oblique strain on April 8 against the Dodgers. The right-hander will likely need to make multiple starts in the minors before he can rejoin the Arizona rotation right around the end of May -- assuming things go well and there are no setbacks.
Apr 30 2023Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday that Davies (oblique) is expected to throw a bullpen session this week, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies recently started a throwing program and threw out to 120 feet Saturday. The bullpen session will be the right-hander's first time on a mound since sustaining the oblique injury during a start April 8.
Apr 3 2023Davies did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks across five innings during a 2-1 win over the Dodgers. He struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies gave up a two-out, solo home run to Will Smith in the bottom of the first inning but steadied the ship and cruised through five innings. It was a solid first outing for the veteran right-hander, who struggled mightily during spring training. Across 27 starts with Arizona in 2022, Davies posted a 4.09 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with a 102:52 K:BB over 134.1 innings.
Mar 12 2023Davies allowed six runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings in Saturday's start against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As has become common for Arizona starters, Davies was pulled with two outs in the first inning -- when he allowed four runs and two home runs -- and returned to start the second inning. He gave up another pair of runs in the third before leaving with one out and reaching his pitch limit. Davies shrugged off the outing, telling Jack Magruder of MLB.com that once the game got away from him, he worked on stuff. "I'm working toward getting built up. I'm not worried about it. Stuff didn't feel quite as sharp," the team's projected fourth starter said. Davies also wants to focus on incorporating more curveballs into his fastball/changeup mix. The right-hander has thrown his curveball just five percent of the time, on average, over the last four years.
Feb 28 2023Davies allowed one hit and two walks while striking out three over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was the first member of the projected rotation to debut in the Cactus League. The right-hander made 27 starts for the Diamondbacks last season, posting a respectable 4.09 ERA over 134.1 innings, which was aided by a low BABIP (.257). The 30-year-old doesn't overpower hitters and won't strike out many. He currently projects as fourth in the rotation, behind Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly (who starts Friday) and Madison Bumgarner.
Jan 4 2023Davies re-signed Wednesday with the Diamondbacks on a one-year, $5 million contract that includes up to $3 million in incentives, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Davies declined his side of a $1.5 million mutual option for 2023 to become a free agent earlier this offseason, he'll ultimately return to Arizona at a higher salary figure for the upcoming campaign. While his peripherals weren't outstanding last season (4.71 SIERA, 8.8 K-BB%), Davies remained a serviceable innings eater at the back end of the rotation while logging 27 starts in total. Davies will likely open the 2023 season with a rotation spot, though he could give way to one of the Diamondbacks' many pitching prospects before the end of the year.
Nov 7 2022The Diamondbacks declined Davies' $1.5 million club option for 2023 on Monday, making him a free agent. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies will receive a $250,000 buyout as part of the deal, effectively taking home $1.75 million in salary from the deal he signed with Arizona last March. Though $1.5 million is more than a fair price for a back-end starter like Davies, Arizona evidently felt it was better off pursuing an upgrade this winter or giving its younger, higher-upside arms a chance at staking claims to spots in the rotation. Davies was an effective innings eater for Arizona in 2022 -- he covered 134.1 frames over 27 starts -- but his underlying peripherals (4.71 SIERA, 8.8 K-BB%) didn't make him a particularly appealing fantasy option. The 29-year-old is unlikely to be a priority free agent this winter and may need other teams' pitching staffs to get hit by injury before he signs with a club that can present him with a clearer path to a rotation spot.
Oct 2 2022Davies allowed a run on two hits and five walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was a bit wild in this one, with the five walks marking a season high. He threw just 50 of 91 pitches for strikes in what his final start of the year. The right-hander rarely had truly awful starts, but he didn't record a win over his last 20 outings of the campaign, taking four losses and 16 no-decisions. For the year, he finished with a 4.09 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 102:52 K:BB through 134.1 innings across 27 starts.
Sep 27 2022Davies (2-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 4.1 innings in a 10-2 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Altuve got to Davies to lead off the first inning, and after recording a couple of clean innings, Davies ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings. The 29-year-old has now failed to complete five innings in four of his last five starts, a period in which he has allowed 14 earned runs in 21 innings. He will take a 4.18 ERA into his next start.
Sep 15 2022Davies allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was staked to a two-run lead after two innings, and that held up until Los Angeles slugged a pair of solo homers against him in the fourth. The right-hander remained in the game and finished having allowed just those two runs through 5.1 frames, but he ended up with his 10th consecutive no-decision. Davies hasn't earned a win since May 13, though he's been pretty average with a 4.26 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 86.2 innings across 17 outings since that victory. He's allowed two runs or fewer in five of his past six starts.
Sep 10 2022Davies gave up six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings in a 13-10 loss to the Rockies on Friday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies struggled immensely in this road start at Colorado, giving up three home runs on 74 pitches. It was Davies' worst start of the year and the first time he has given up six runs this season. Davies' ERA jumped from 3.74 to 4.09 with the appearance. The 29 year-old right-hander remains stuck at two wins despite making 23 starts for the Diamondbacks this season. He is expected to make his text turn in the rotation against the Dodgers.
Sep 2 2022Davies allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.2 innings during Friday's 2-1 win over the Brewers. He didn't factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies had lasted at least five innings in each of his five starts ahead of Friday's outing, but he fell just short of the mark against the Brewers since he required 91 pitches to get through 4.2 innings. Although the right-hander was able to hold the opposition in check once again, he was forced to settle for yet another no-decision. He's settled for no-decisions in eight consecutive outings and has posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 33 innings over his seven starts since returning from the injured list. Davies tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against San Diego on Wednesday.
Aug 29 2022Davies gave up two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings in a 3-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies held his own in a road appearance against the White Sox and left the game an out short of a quality start. Davies had pitched five scoreless frames to open the contest but was given the hook by Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo after allowing a couple of runs to score on a sacrifice fly and infield single in the sixth. Davies has a K:BB of 80:38 in 108.1 innings this season and is stuck at only two wins despite making 21 starts. He will look for win number three his next expected time out against the Brewers.
Aug 24 2022Davies gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out one over 5.1 innings in a 7-3 win over the Royals on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies threw 45 of his 84 pitches for strikes and gave up only one run against the struggling Royals but was not able to pick up the win. Davies is winless in his last 12 starts and only has two victories on the season despite pitching 102.2 innings. The 29-year-old right-hander lowered his WHIP to a respectable 1.19 with the performance. He is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Phillies on Monday.
Aug 18 2022Davies did not factor in the decision against San Francisco on Wednesday, pitching five innings and allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was effective in the contest, allowing just one run on a third-inning homer by LaMonte Wade Jr. Davies threw 45 of 82 pitches for strikes and registered his most punchouts since mid-June, but he got little run support and extended his stretch of outings without a win to 11. The inability to record a victory has been especially frustrating of late, as Davies has allowed just four runs over his past 15 innings.
Aug 12 2022Davies allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two in five innings versus the Rockies on Friday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies still hasn't stretched out much -- Friday was his third start since returning from a shoulder injury, and he threw just 49 of 82 pitches for strikes in this contest. The right-hander allowed a two-run double to Elehuris Montero in the fourth inning and a solo home run to Brian Serven in the fifth, taking himself out of contention for the win when he left with the game tied. Davies has a 4.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB through 92 innings across 18 starts. He's allowed seven runs across 12 frames in his last three outings, and he'll look to be more efficient in a projected road start versus the Giants next week.
Aug 7 2022Davies allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies put in a solid performance in his second start back from a shoulder injury. He threw 49 of 80 pitches for strikes, but the Rockies weren't able to capitalize on his so-so command. It was a significant improvement after he allowed four runs in two innings in his previous start. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 4.03 with a 1.22 WHIP and 66:30 K:BB through 87 innings across 17 starts this year. Davies is projected for a road rematch with the Rockies next week.
Aug 2 2022Davies didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Guardians, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks over two-plus innings. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Two of the hits Davies allowed left the yard, including an Amed Rosario two-run blast to left-center field that chased the right-hander from the game with nobody out in the third inning. It was an inauspicious return to the rotation for Davies, who missed all of July with a shoulder issue, and he'll take a 4.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 63:28 K:BB through 82 innings into his next outing.
Aug 1 2022Davies (shoulder) was activated from the injured list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported Sunday that Davies would rejoin Arizona's rotation for the opener of its three-game set with the Guardians, and the team made the move official one day later. Davies will attempt to pick up where he left off after posting a 2.56 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over his previous five big-league starts.
Jul 31 2022Davies (shoulder) is starting Monday against the Guardians, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies spent just over a month on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, but he resumed mound work July 23 and faced live batters Tuesday at the Diamondbacks' spring training complex. Over his five starts prior to his absence, he posted a 2.56 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 31.2 innings.
Jul 29 2022Davies faced live batters Tuesday at the Diamondbacks' spring training complex for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury and being placed on the injured list June 28. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has had a succession of promising throwing sessions since July 19 and appears to be closing in on a return. His next outing has yet to be determined. It's unclear if the Diamondbacks intend to put him back in the rotation or continue experimenting with Tyler Gilbert and Corbin Martin.
Jul 23 2022Davies (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was the second bullpen session of the week for Davies, who also threw a 20-pitch session Tuesday. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the right-hander came out of Friday's session feeling "very good." Davies' next step will be to face live batters, although Lovullo did not provide a timeline for the pitcher's full return. Davies, who has a 3.94 ERA over 15 starts, landed on the injured list June 28 with shoulder inflammation. Since his injury and another to Humberto Castellanos (elbow), the back end of Arizona's rotation has been wobbly.
Jun 28 2022Davies was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies presumably sustained the injury Saturday during his last start, when he gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk over five innings. It's unclear exactly how long the 29-year-old is expected to be sidelined, though he'll be eligible to return from the injured list July 11.
Jun 25 2022Davies allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings, taking a no-decision versus the Tigers on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It wasn't really a good or bad start, instead treading the line of average for Davies as his winless run extended to eight starts. The right-hander has been fairly sharp in June, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) across 31.2 innings across five outings. Overall, he's at a 3.94 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 62:26 K:BB through 80 innings in 15 starts. Davies is projected for an unforgiving road start in Colorado next week.
Jun 20 2022Davies (2-4) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was spotted a one-run lead before he took the mound, but he gave it back on a Jake Cronenworth solo home run. The right-hander was also tagged for a two-run single by Ha-Seong Kim in the second and a solo shot from Trent Grisham in the fifth. Davies has alternated dominance with middling performances in his last five outings, going 0-2 in that span. He now has a 3.96 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 60:25 K:BB through 75 innings across 14 starts overall. He's projected for a home start versus the Tigers this weekend.
Jun 14 2022Davies allowed six hits and struck out seven over seven shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Tuesday. He didn't walk a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Davies' third straight quality start, but he was outplayed by Reds starter Tyler Mahle (12 strikeouts in nine shutout innings). Despite allowing just three runs in his last 20.2 innings, Davies has taken no-decisions in all three starts in that span. The right-hander owns a 3.78 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 57:22 K:BB across 69 innings in 13 starts overall. He's in line for a road start versus the Padres next week.
Jun 9 2022Davies allowed three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven across six innings Thursday against the Reds. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies allowed four hits prior to recording an out, which led to all three of his earned runs coming in the first inning. However, he retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced to turn in his second consecutive quality start. Davies has also seen an uptick in strikeouts in recent starts, tallying 18 punchouts across his last 19 frames. Overall, he has a 4.21 ERA with a 50:22 K:BB across 62 frames on the season.
Jun 4 2022Davies pitched 7.2 shutout innings Saturday versus the Pirates, allowing three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in a no-decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was excellent, throwing 62 of 101 pitches for strikes in easily his best start of the year. The Diamondbacks generated just one run of support, and that thin lead didn't stick when Mark Melancon blew the save in the ninth inning. Considering Davies had allowed at least three runs in each of his last four starts, this is a step in the right direction. He's now at a 4.18 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB through 56 innings in 11 starts this year. The 29-year-old is expected to make his next start in Cincinnati next week.
May 29 2022Davies (2-3) took the loss during Sunday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts 5.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies avoided major damage but served up a Will Smith solo shot in the second inning and two runs on three baserunners in the third to fall in line for the loss as Arizona's offense was dormant. The biggest takeaway is that the 29-year-old showed no ill effects of a lower-leg injury that put Sunday's start in question. After delivering consecutive scoreless outings to open May, Davies has allowed at least three runs in each of his last four starts and will look to get back on track next weekend against Pittsburgh.
May 27 2022Davies (leg) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session Thursday, Jack Sommers of MLB.com reports, and the right-hander is scheduled to start Sunday against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies left his most recent start during the fourth inning after taking a 112.4 mph liner to the leg off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. According to the report, Thursday's bullpen session went well, and Davies will not miss a turn.
May 23 2022Davies left Monday's start against the Royals due to an apparent lower leg injury, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies took a line drive off his lower leg and limped off the field with a trainer. Prior to the injury, he allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out two across 3.2 innings. He will not factor into the decision, as the game was tied upon his exit. It's not clear whether Davies will be available for his next turn through the rotation.
May 13 2022Davies (2-1) earned the win during Friday's 4-3 victory over the Cubs, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies pitched well aside from the third inning, when he surrendered all three runs on three hits, but Arizona clawed back from the early deficit to put the 29-year-old in line for the victory. Davies has been his typical solid yet unspectacular self this season, permitting no more than four earned runs in any of his seven starts, though a 4.27 FIP compared to a 3.57 ERA indicates he's been a bit lucky so far. He's scheduled to toe the rubber again next week against the Dodgers.
May 8 2022Davies hurled 6.1 scoreless innings against Colorado on Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander submitted his finest effort of the campaign thus far, pitching beyond the fifth inning for the first time and holding the Rockies scoreless while racking up 14 swinging strikes. Unfortunately for Davies, opposing starter Kyle Freeland matched him in putting goose eggs on the board, leaving both hurlers to settle for a no-decision. Nonetheless, this was a promising outing for Davies, who hasn't allowed an earned run over his past two starts covering 11.1 frames. That has lowered his ERA, which stood at 5.40 through four starts, to a much more appealing 3.34 overall.
May 1 2022Davies allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A one-out error by Ketel Marte ultimately allowed two runs to come across the plate in the third inning. Davies left the game in line for the win, but the Diamondbacks' bullpen couldn't maintain the lead. The right-hander won't see any damage added to his ratios after this start -- he has a 4.24 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 16:11 K:BB through 23.1 innings across five outings. He lines up for a home start versus the Rockies next weekend.
Apr 26 2022Davies didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies got off to a rocky start, surrendering a bases-clearing double to Will Smith in the first inning, but was able to limit the damage to those three runs despite heavy traffic on the bases, and Arizona rebounded to eventually win the game. The eight baserunners increased the 29-year-old's WHIP to 1.47 -- a bottom 10 mark -- and he likely won't be able to strand as many runners as he did Tuesday. He's tentatively scheduled to toe the rubber on Sunday in St. Louis for his next start.
Apr 21 2022Davies (1-1) allowed two hits, two runs and two walked while recording seven strikeouts over five innings in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies bounced back nicely after getting pummeled by the Mets six days ago. The Diamondbacks are Davies' third team in three seasons after one-year stints with the Padres and Cubs, and his work n the Cactus League ensured him a spot in Arizona's rotation this season. His seven strikeouts are an encouraging metric for the 29-year-old veteran.
Apr 15 2022Davies (0-1) took the loss Friday against the Mets, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work, striking out two while walking one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies managed just one scoreless inning in his second start of the year. Pete Alonso drove in runs with sacrifice flies in both the first and third innings, while Robinson Cano hit a solo shot in the fourth and Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Davies now owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through two outings, striking out four and walking four. He'll look to turn things around in his next outing, which lines up to come Wednesday in Washington.
Apr 10 2022Davies didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Padres after allowing two runs on four hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was just three outs away from posting a quality start in an outing during which 43 of his 75 pitches went for strikes. He's looking to rebound from a 2021 season in which he posted a 5.78 ERA across 32 starts with the Cubs, and while he was far from perfect in this one and recorded more walks than strikeouts, it was still a decent performance as he limited the damage. Davies is expected to make his next start against the Mets next week.
Mar 29 2022Davies allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three over three innings in Tuesday's spring training start against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies made his Cactus League debut after the Diamondbacks signed him one week ago and started against the team for which he made 32 starts in 2021. There's enough time in spring training for one more start, so the right-hander may not build up enough pitches for the first turn of the rotation in the regular season, although he could be used as a game opener or in a piggyback role. Davies is the leading candidate to claim the No. 5 starter job.
Mar 25 2022Davies threw two innings in a simulated game Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks inked Davies earlier in the week, and the right-hander is a frontrunner for the final spot in the rotation, provided he can build up innings and pitch counts by the first week of the season. He had a career-worst year with the Cubs in 2021, posting a 5.78 ERA and 1.52 K/BB ratio over 32 starts, while also tying for the NL lead in walks (75). His track record prior to 2021 -- 3.79 ERA (114 ERA+) across six seasons -- is what Arizona found attractive. The Diamondbacks appear to have the first four rotation slots set, but Zac Gallen (shoulder) might not be ready for the first turn. Davies joins a long list of candidates in the mix for the fifth starter job and whatever time Gallen needs to get ready. Tyler Gilbert, Taylor Widener, Caleb Smith, Corbin Martin, Dan Straily and Humberto Castellanos are also being considered.
Sep 30 2021Davies won't pitch during this weekend's series against the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies' final turn through the rotation lined up for Friday's series opener, but he'll instead shut things down after discussing it with the team. The 28-year-old struggled during his first season with the Cubs, posting a 5.78 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 114:75 K:BB over 148 innings, and he's poised to hit free agency during the offseason.
Sep 25 2021Davies (6-12) lasted just two innings Friday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two as he took the loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was slammed right away as five consecutive Cardinals hitters reached base in the first, amounting to three runs. He came back out for the second and allowed a pair of base hits before Tyler O'Neill took him deep to make it a 6-0 advantage for St. Louis. The 28-year-old has had a month to forget, as he's put up a 15.32 ERA, 2.92 WHIP and 9:11 K:BB over 12.1 innings in September. Davies has failed to make it to the third inning in two of his last four starts but is set up for a favorable matchup to end the year with a meeting against the Pirates next week.
Sep 18 2021Davies allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings Friday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies held the Brewers off the board for three innings but was unable to contain them after that. The 28-year-old allowed five straight batters to reach to kick off the fourth, resulting in three runs for the opponents. He then allowed three of the first four hitters he faced in the fifth to reach before being pulled with the bases loaded and one out. One more run would come in to score that would be charged to Davies. The right-hander allowed 15 earned runs over his last three starts and has not seen the sixth inning since Aug. 20. He now sits at a 5.49 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 112:73 K:BB over 146 innings this season and leads all qualified pitchers in walks.
Sep 11 2021Davies (6-11) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout through two innings, taking the loss in Saturday's 15-4 defeat to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was one strike away from escaping a bases-loaded situation in the second unscathed, but a two-RBI single from Tommy La Stella and a subsequent three-run homer from Brandon Belt spelled the end of the right-hander's day. After compiling a 1.72 ERA in May and a 4.17 ERA over the course of June and July, Davies has a 8.73 ERA over eight starts in August and September. The long ball has haunted the impending free agent lately, as he's given up 14 home runs in his last eight starts. He conceded just 10 in his first 22 starts of the season.
Sep 6 2021Davies allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three batters over four innings Sunday against the Pirates. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was punished by the long ball Sunday. He allowed a first-inning solo home run to Yoshi Tsutsugo and then a grand slam to Brian Reynolds in the third. Reynolds would chase Davies out of the game in the fifth after leading off with a single and eventually came around to score, charging the 28-year-old with his sixth run of the game. Davies has now failed to reach five innings in seven of his last 11 starts and sits at a 5.16 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 108:67 K:BB over 139.2 innings. He tentatively lines up for a meeting with the Giants his next time out.
Aug 31 2021Davies allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out three across 4.1 innings in the win over the Twins on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies' only run allowed came in the first inning after allowing the first two batters to reach. He was pulled with one out in the fifth with the top of the lineup coming to bat. The 28-year-old has had an inconsistent season, but he's allowed just seven runs in his last four starts. He has a 4.91 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 105 strikeouts in 135.2 innings.
Aug 26 2021Davies pitched 4.2 innings against Colorado in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander threw 47 of 72 pitches for strikes but was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning. He hasn't earned a win since July 23, going 0-4 with two no-decisions over his past six starts. Over that span, he has posted a troublesome 7.53 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Davies will try to find his way back into the win column when he next takes the mound, which is likely to be next week at Minnesota.
Aug 20 2021Davies (6-10) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings to take the loss against the Royals on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies began Friday's game by tossing three scoreless innings, but he gave up four solo home runs across his final three frames. The righty has given up at least four earned runs in four of his last five appearances, and he's been charged with four losses across that span. He'll attempt to right the ship in his next start and tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road against the White Sox on Friday.
Aug 15 2021Davies allowed three unearned runs across six innings and did not factor into the decision Saturday against the Marlins. He gave up four hits and one walk while striking out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies had a bit of tough luck, as a Sergio Alcantara error in the sixth inning extended the frame before Brian Anderson launched a three-run home run with two outs. That accounted for the only runs allowed by Davies, who recorded seven or more strikeouts for the third time this season. It was a much-needed good outing for the righty after allowing 14 earned runs across six innings in his last two starts. He's slated to face the Royals on Friday in his next scheduled start.
Aug 8 2021Davies (6-9) lost Sunday's 9-3 game to the White Sox, allowing seven runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in two innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies labored immediately, allowing three home runs and five runs in the first inning and two more in the second to mark consecutive starts permitting seven runs. The 28-year-old righty has now lost three straight starts, allowing 18 runs in 12 innings, causing Davies' ERA to balloon to 5.26 from 4.30 in the span. The one positive has been 22 strikeouts over his last 17.1 innings pitched.
Aug 3 2021Davies (6-8) allowed seven runs across four innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Rockies. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out just one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was bitten by the beast that is Coors Field, and it's hard to have much success at altitude while only striking out one batter. Colorado hitters managed to put the ball in play frequently, and that led to two doubles and two home runs against Davies. The righty now has a 4.79 ERA and 6.31 K/9 this season, which makes him more of a matchup option at this point. Davies has a tough matchup in his next scheduled start Sunday against the White Sox, so fantasy managers may want to look elsewhere.
Jul 28 2021Davies (6-7) allowed four runs across six innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Reds. He gave up seven hits and four walks while striking out eight. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies allowed too many baserunners, and the Chicago offense didn't do him any favors by not scoring any runs until the ninth inning, but the righty was still able to turn in a decent outing. The eight strikeouts certainly helped him get out of trouble, and he's now struck out exactly eight batters in his last two starts. The figure is a season high and a bit of an outlier for Davies, who came into Wednesday's contest with a 6.1 K/9 this season. He'll now carry a 4.39 ERA into his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Rockies at Coors Field as he looks to even up his record.
Jul 23 2021Davies (6-6) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight in 5.1 innings to earn the win against the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies returned to the win column for the first time in nearly a month after he was forced to settle for a pair of losses and a pair of no-decisions in his last four starts. He got plenty of run support from the Cubs' offense in the 8-3 victory, and he's now allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last six appearances. The right-hander tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Reds on Wednesday.
Jul 19 2021Davies allowed two earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings on Sunday in the loss to the Diamondbacks. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies managed to surrender just two runs, but it could have been much worse. He stranded the bases loaded with no outs after a run scored in the fourth frame and found himself stuck in another bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. Davies walked another four batters, continuing his streak for worst BB/9 among qualifying pitchers in all of baseball with a 4.8. Sunday was his sixth start where he walked more batters than he struck out. The 28-year-old carries a 4.35 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 97.1 innings this season.
Jul 10 2021Davies (5-6) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in 4.1 innings, taking the loss versus St. Louis on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was the third straight start Davies didn't work into the sixth inning after doing so in his four previous outings. He mostly settled in after allowing an RBI single to Matt Carpenter in the first inning, but Paul Goldschmidt took him deep in the fifth. Tyler O'Neill followed with a single, and reliever Adam Morgan allowed him to score on a Tommy Edman home run. Davies' ERA ticked up to 4.37 with a 1.45 WHIP and 59:48 K:BB across 92.2 innings this year. He's alternated between strong and poor stretches, so he'll probably welcome the All-Star break to get some additional rest.
Jul 5 2021Davies allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeouts in five innings in a no-decision versus Philadelphia on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the Cubs lost 13-3, Davies actually had a fairly effective start. The two runs he allowed came on solo home runs by Andrew Knapp and Didi Gregorius in the third and fourth innings. The right-hander has now allowed four runs across his last 15 innings spanning three starts. He has a 4.28 ERA with a troubling 1.42 WHIP and 56:46 K:BB in 88.1 innings overall. Davies' next start lines up for this weekend's series versus St. Louis.
Jun 30 2021Davies (5-5) took the loss Tuesday, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks over four innings as the Cubs were downed 2-1 by the Brewers. He struck out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander needed 84 pitches (47 strikes) to record only 12 outs, and while Davies was once again tough to make solid contact against, the results weren't as impressive as his last time out when he helped no-hit the Dodgers. He'll take a 4.32 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 55:44 K:BB through 83.1 innings into his next outing.
Jun 24 2021Davies (5-4) won Thursday's 4-0 game against the Dodgers, throwing six innings and allowing only 5 walks with four strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies pitched the first six innings of what was a combined no-hitter for Chicago against a formidable Los Angeles roster. The five walks are a season high and all of them came in the first four innings, but Davies ended strong by retiring nine straight Dodgers. It was an excellent rebound from his previous start against Miami and he'll look to carry the momentum forward next week in Milwaukee.
Jun 18 2021Davies (4-4) allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks with just two strikeouts across six innings, taking the loss versus Miami on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies' run of dominant pitching came to a halt with a stinker Friday. He allowed multiple home runs in a start for the first time this year, giving up a grand slam to Adam Duvall and a three-run blast to Jon Berti in the contest. The right-hander's ERA ballooned from 4.01 to 4.66, and he now has an unsightly 45:36 K:BB across 73.1 innings this year. Davies lines up for his next start versus the Dodgers next week.
Jun 14 2021Davies (4-3) picked up the win over the Cardinals on Sunday after pitching 6.2 shutout innings and allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was dominant yet again as he led the Cubs to a series sweep over the Cardinals. He allowed his first baserunner after retiring the first 13 batters and eventually saw his day come to a close in the sixth once the Cardinals got two men on base. The 28-year-old had a 9.47 ERA over five starts in April but since owns a 1.86 ERA and 29:18 K:BB over 48.1 innings. He'll look to keep things rolling in an expected home start against the Marlins during the week.
Jun 8 2021Davies (3-3) won Tuesday's 7-1 victory over San Diego, allowing no runs on a hit and two walks with four strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Pitching against his former team, Davies recorded more strikeouts than base runners allowed for the first time this season. He's pitched extremely well of late with a 2.18 ERA over his last eight starts and five starts allowing one run or zero runs.
Jun 4 2021Davies (2-3) was tagged with the loss Thursday against the Giants after allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning four across 4.1 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies ended a streak of his six straight outings allowing three or fewer runs, and he also failed to complete at least five innings since the beginning of May, so this was certainly an outing he'd like to forget as soon as possible. His next scheduled start is set for next week on the road against the Padres.
May 29 2021Davies didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Cubs after giving up one run on two hits and two walks while fanning three across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies ended just three outs away from what would've been his second quality start of the campaign, but he has pitched six or more innings just once all year long so he's never expected to pitch too deep into games. The right-hander has been impressive of late, though, allowing one or fewer runs in five of his last six outings and posting a 1.74 ERA in that stretch. His next start is scheduled for next week on the road against the Giants.
May 23 2021Davies took a no-decision Sunday against St. Louis, pitching five innings and allowing no runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in a 2-1 win. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies labored a bit by surrendering multiple base runners in three different innings but was able to prevent the big blow and keep the Cardinals off the board. The righty only needed 71 pitches to get through five innings and most likely had at least one more inning in him, but manager David Ross opted to pinch-hit for Davies in the top of the sixth, ending his night. After a rough April Davies has been much better in May, allowing five runs across five starts.
May 18 2021Davies allowed three runs across five innings and did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Nationals. He gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies turned in a so-so performance, as he wasn't able to miss a ton of Washington bats, which has been a theme this season. The righty now has just 23 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched to go along with a 5.58 ERA. Those numbers aren't going to grab the attention of fantasy managers, and they're a ways off from the 2.73 ERA and 8.2 K/9 Davies posted for San Diego last season. He'll look for better results and a return to the win column his next time out Sunday against the Cardinals.
May 12 2021Davies allowed a run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings versus Cleveland on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only run against Davies came in the sixth inning on an Amed Rosario RBI double. The 28-year-old Davies had an inconsistent start to the season, but he's allowed just three runs (two earned) in 16.1 innings across his last three starts. The right-hander has a 5.60 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 22:21 K:BB in 35.1 innings overall. He's projected to face Washington next week.
May 7 2021Davies (2-2) allowed five hits and one walk while striking out one in seven scoreless innings to earn the win against the Pirates on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies put together his first scoreless outing as a Cub on Friday, and he picked up his first win since his season debut April 4. Even though the right-hander only struck out one batter against the Pirates, he's now allowed just two runs (one earned) in 11 innings across his last two starts. Davies tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road Wednesday against Cleveland.
May 2 2021Davies didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Reds. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while fanning three across four innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has not pitched more than four innings in any of his previous five appearances, and in fact, this was just the first time he allowed fewer than two runs in any of his outings. He has been struggling of late with a 17:18 K:BB and a 8.22 ERA through 23 innings.
Apr 26 2021Davies allowed five runs on six hits across 3.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Monday against Atlanta. He walked four and struck out four. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies probably deserved his third loss of the season, but Atlanta starter Charlie Morton also allowed five runs, taking Davies off the hook. Other than not taking the loss, it was otherwise another poor performance for the righty, who has an abysmal 9.47 ERA after five starts. It's a far cry from the 2.73 ERA Davies posted in 2020, and considering he's part of the return Chicago received for Yu Darvish, he'll need to pitch a lot better to endear himself to Cubs fans and fantasy managers. He'll look to turn things around in his next outing, which is scheduled for Saturday against the Reds.
Apr 21 2021Davies allowed two earned runs on five hits across across four innings and did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 16-4 win over the Mets. He walked two and struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies got more than enough run support, but he couldn't last five innings to qualify for the win. The righty continued a trend of not going very deep into games, as he's now pitched four innings or fewer in three straight starts. Davies is 0-2 during the stretch, and he has an unsightly 8.80 ERA for the season. He'll look to pitch a little better in his next scheduled outing Monday against Atlanta.
Apr 16 2021Davies (1-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one in four innings as he was charged with the loss Friday against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was sharp in his Cubs debut, but he's struggled in each of his last two starts. He was able to limit his run production slightly better than he did in his last outing, but he still allowed 10 baserunners prior to his removal. Through his first three starts, Davies has posted a 10.32 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in 11.1 innings. The right-hander will attempt to turn things around at home against the Mets on Wednesday.
Apr 10 2021Davies (1-1) allowed seven runs on five hits and three walks while fanning two across 1.2 innings Saturday against the Pirates. He was tagged with the loss. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies pitched 5.2 innings in his Cubs debut and earned a win against the Pirates, but he was roughed up by the same Pittsburgh team he dominated one week ago -- he couldn't even get out of the second inning after allowing all seven of his runs during the second frame. Davies will try to put this outing behind him quickly since his next start is scheduled for April 16 at home against the Braves.
Apr 4 2021Davies (1-0) allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings to earn the win Sunday against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was sharp in his Cubs debut facing a weak Pirates lineup. He cruised through five scoreless innings before allowing a two-run home run to Collin Moran in the sixth inning. The 28-year-old provides consistent quality starts despite not having high strikeout totals. The Cubs will rely heavily on him this year since parting ways with Jon Lester and Jose Quintana in the offseason.
Mar 29 2021Davies allowed one run on two hits and two walks across 3.1 innings in Monday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies finishes spring training with a 1.08 ERA, and the righty looks ready to contribute for the Cubs and fantasy mangers. While the righty doesn't rack up strikeouts, he can still be an effective starter, which he proved with his 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 12 starts for the Padres last season. Davies is expected to start the year as Chicago's No. 3 starter behind Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta.
Mar 23 2021Davies is expected to begin the season as the Cubs' No. 3 pitcher, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Kyle Hendricks was officially named the Opening Day starter Tuesday, and Jake Arrieta has slotted in second all spring, so Davies figures to be third out the gate against the Pirates on April 4. The righty was solid for the Padres last year, registering a 2.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 63 strikeouts across 69.1 innings. Like Hendricks, Davies doesn't overpower hitters, but he can still be an effective fantasy pitcher due to good ratios and win potential.
Mar 8 2021Davies pitched three scoreless innings in Monday's Cactus League game against the Rangers. He walked one and didn't have any strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Through two starts this spring, Davies has pitched five scoreless innings with no hits allowed. He pitched well in 2020, posting a 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 12 starts (69.1 innings) for the Padres, and while the 28-year-old is not the flashiest name out there, he could be in line for continued success in his first season with the Cubs.
Mar 3 2021Davies pitched two scoreless innings in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. He walked one and struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies looked good in his team debut, recording his six outs without allowing a hit. The 28-year-old seems to be in line to serve as the Cubs' No. 3 starter this season. Davies posted a sub-3.60 ERA the past two years, so he could be a decent fantasy option, though he doesn't offer a ton of strikeouts.
Feb 17 2021Davies could be the No. 3 starter behind Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta to start the season, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was shipped to Chicago in December in the trade that sent Yu Darvish to San Diego. The Cubs have also parted ways with Jon Lester and Jose Quintana this offseason, so Davies will certainly have an opportunity to seize a prominent role with the Cubs. The 28-year-old posted a strong 2.73 ERA and 1.07 across 69.1 innings last season.
Dec 28 2020Davies has been traded to Cubs along with four prospects in exchange for Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies is coming off a solid year in which he logged a 2.73 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 69.1 innings for the Padres. With Darvish headed to San Diego, and southpaws Jon Lester and Jose Quintana currently testing free agency, the Cubs are likely hoping that Davies can slot in near the top of their rotation alongside Kyle Hendricks in 2021.
Oct 7 2020Davies took the loss in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers after allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and zero walks over five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander kept Los Angeles off the board over the first two frames, but he surrendered four runs on seven hits between the third and fourth innings. Davies didn't give up four earned runs in any of his 12 starts during the regular season, but he's allowed four earned runs in both of his playoff starts while covering only seven combined innings. The Friars will need to overcome a 2-0 series deficit for him to receive another start this postseason.
Oct 2 2020Davies lasted just two innings in his start Thursday against the Cardinals in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Round, giving up four runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. He did not factor into the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies gave up one run on a Yadier Molina single in the first inning, followed by an RBI single from Harrison Bader and a two-run homer by Kolten Wong in the second. While he finished that inning with a pair of strikeouts, he was pulled for Pierce Johnson to start the third. The performance, which was Davies' first career playoff start, was far out of line with what he accomplished during 12 regular-season outings, as he finished the year with a 2.73 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP.
Sep 27 2020Davies didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's game between the Padres and the Giants. He tossed three scoreless innings, giving up three hits while fanning three. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was widely expected to pitch this game on a short leash and that's exactly what happened, as he only tossed 51 pitches (32 strikes) through three innings in what was his first no-decision of the campaign. He finished the season with a career-best 2.73 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP -- another career best -- in 69.1 innings across 12 starts. Davies is lined up to take the ball in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Round next week.
Sep 25 2020Davies could be pushed up to start Saturday's game against the Giants on three days rest, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander lines up to start on regular rest Sunday after pitching Tuesday against the Angels, but the Padres have been shifting their rotation plans with Mike Clevinger (elbow) unlikely to be available for the National League Wild Card round. Taking the mound Saturday would line up Davies to pitch Thursday in Game 2 rather than the potential series finale Friday. Regardless of whether he pitches Saturday or Sunday, Davies is likely to have a short leash to mitigate any potential for injury.
Sep 22 2020Davies (7-4) suffered the loss against the Angels on Tuesday, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite notching a quality start, Davies scuffled in the outing, needing 97 pitches to get through six innings. He gave up a pair of homers to Angels catcher Max Stassi to account for all three of the runs scored against him. Davies is lined up to start the final game of the season at San Francisco, though it is uncertain how deep he'll go in that contest with the postseason around the corner. As it stands, the right-hander figures to have a spot in the team's playoff rotation.
Sep 15 2020Davies (7-3) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk and struck out five over six innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was a little less efficient than his Dodgers counterpart, Tony Gonsolin, and the former would be stuck with the loss. It's a third straight quality start for Davies, as well as his fifth overall. He has a 2.69 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB in 60.1 innings this season. The right-hander lines up to face the Angels next Wednesday in his next start.
Sep 9 2020Davies (7-2) allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies turned in a baseline quality start while racking up a season-best eight strikeouts. He did so on the strength of 14 swinging strikes and 19 called strikes across 99 total pitches. After this performance, Davies has yet to allow more than three earned run in any of his nine starts this season. He has a 2.48 ERA to show for it, also putting up a 50:15 K:BB across 54.1 innings. Davies will look to keep things going his next turn the rotation, currently projected to come Monday against the Dodgers.
Sep 5 2020Davies (6-2) earned the win Friday against Oakland by tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks while fanning five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies earned a fourth straight win and has not allowed more than three earned runs in any outing this season while fanning at least five in all but one game so far. In fact, he is coming off back-to-back scoreless performances, so the right-hander is clearly trending in the right direction. He will carry a 2.23 ERA and a stellar 0.93 WHIP into next Wednesday's matchup at home against Colorado.
Aug 28 2020Davies (5-2) earned the Friday after holding the Rockies to four (unearned) runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six across 5.2 innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies struggled in the first inning, giving up back-to-back singles and a walk, setting up Matt Kemp for a three-run home run. Luckily, the runs were unearned due to a missed catch error by Eric Hosmer. The 27-year-old Davies kept Colorado's bats quiet the rest of the way, exiting with two outs in the sixth following his 93rd pitch of the night. Davies has been solid this season, with his only rough outing of the year coming at Coors Field earlier this month, when he allowed three runs over five innings. The right-hander will carry a 2.61 ERA and 0.90 WHIP into next Friday's matchup at Oakland.
Aug 23 2020Davies (4-2) earned the win against Houston on Saturday, going eight innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies allowed a first-inning run before San Diego staked him to a 10-run lead through two frames, allowing the right-hander to glide to an easy win. His eight innings established a season high while he notched a season-best seven strikeouts. Davies has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his six starts in 2020, resulting in a solid 3.03 overall ERA. He'll next take the mound in a road game at Colorado on Friday.
Aug 17 2020Davies (3-2) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks over five innings Monday, striking out six and earning the win over Texas. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: San Diego's offense exploded for 14 runs Monday, so Davies had plenty of breathing room. He allowed just two runs through five innings but left after allowing a lead-off single in the sixth to Danny Santana, who came around to score and charge Davies with his third run. The 27-year-old will carry a 3.25 ERA into Sunday's home start against Houston.
Aug 13 2020Davies (2-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers. He tossed seven innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while fanning five. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth -- on an RBI single from Edwin Rios that scored A.J. Pollock, and on an RBI groundout from Austin Barnes that scored Chris Taylor. Despite the fact Davies was tagged with the loss, he delivered a strong performance against one of the best offenses in the National League and extended what has been a strong start to the season for him. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in three of his first four starts and carries a 2.78 ERA with a 0.84 WHIP after his first 22.2 innings.
Aug 7 2020Davies (2-1) earned the win Friday against Arizona after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and fanning six. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was absolutely dominant in this game, allowing only three singles throughout the course of his 84-pitch outing -- he threw 53 of those for strikes. Davies now has a 2.87 ERA in the season and will try to repeat this performance in his upcoming start, scheduled for Aug. 12 at the Dodgers.
Aug 6 2020Davies will have his next start moved up to Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies has been following Joey Lucchesi in the rotation, but with an off-day Thursday, the Padres have elected to skip Lucchesi's spot and roll with Davies on five days rest for Friday's series opener against Arizona. Whether the change indicates a move away from Lucchesi as a starter remains to be seen. San Diego has not yet announced its starter for Saturday, though it stands to reason that Chris Paddack will take the mound that day on regular rest.
Aug 2 2020Davies (1-1) allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two across five innings to take the loss Sunday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies was beaten by the long ball, as he first served up a solo shot to Daniel Murphy in the second inning. Two frames later, Matt Kemp took him deep for a two-run home run. Davies has now pitched in two extreme environments -- his first start was at Oracle Park against the Giants -- and allowed five earned runs across 10 innings this season. He's in line to draw his next start at home against Arizona on Saturday.
Jul 28 2020Davies (1-0) was charged with three runs (two earned) on five hits over five innings in a win over the Giants on Tuesday. He struck out five and did not issue a walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After five seasons in Milwaukee, Davies joined the Padres this past winter as part of the Trent Grisham-Luis Urias deal. He pitched well enough to get the win in his team debut, though the Giants' lineup is one of the worst in baseball and this was in San Francisco, so it's hard to get too excited about this performance. Davies is a finesse pitcher who throws 88 mph with a career K/9 a little over 6.0; he will need to be at the very top of his game if he's to achieve a similar result this weekend in Colorado.
Jul 27 2020Davies will start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was expected, but we didn't get confirmation until after Monday's game. Davies will likely be caught by Austin Hedges, as he benefited greatly last year from having an excellent framer (Yasmani Grandal) behind the plate for most of his starts with the Brewers. He will need to hold his own in the early going to avoid getting replaced in the rotation, as the Padres have several young arms coming up behind him.
Mar 27 2020Davies solidified his spot in the Opening Day rotation with a strong showing in Cactus League play, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies allowed only one earned run and posted an 8:1 K:BB over eight innings this spring, all but assuring his place in San Diego's rotation. While he doesn't offer much in the strikeout category -- Davies has yet to reach a 20 percent strikeout rate over any season in his career -- the right-hander possesses a steady floor as he has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in all but one major-league campaign.
Jan 10 2020Davies agreed to a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Padres on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies put together a career year in 2019 with Milwaukee, finishing with a 3.55 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 102 strikeouts across 159.2 frames. He should slot in the near the back end of San Diego's rotation.
Nov 27 2019The Padres acquired Davies and outfielder Trent Grisham from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for infielder Luis Urias and pitcher Eric Lauer, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Grisham and Urias are the principal pieces in the deal, while Davies and Lauer amount to a swap of depth rotation arms. Davies delivered a career-best 3.55 ERA across 159.2 innings in 2019, but his weak 5.7 K/9 limited his appeal from a fantasy perspective. He'll at least benefit from a change in home field from hitter-friendly Miller Park to the more forgiving Petco Park, which should aid Davies' chances of delivering another sub-4.00 ERA in 2020.
Oct 1 2019Davies is not on the Brewers' Wild Card roster.
Oct 1 2019Davies is not on the Brewers' wild-card roster.
Oct 1 2019Davies is not on the Brewers' wild-card roster. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies threw five innings Friday and won't be asked to pitch again on just three days' rest. He'll almost certainly play a role in the divisional round should the Brewers win Tuesday's contest.
Sep 27 2019Davies did not factor into the decision during Friday's loss to the Rockies, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two across five innings. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite leaving the game with the Brewers on top, the Rockies quickly tied things up and soon took the lead for good following Davies' exit. The right-hander turned in a solid performance of his own, surrendering his lone run of the night in the form of an RBI single to Tony Wolters in the third inning. Davies finishes the regular season with a 10-7 record, 3.55 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.
Sep 22 2019Davies didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 10-1 rout of the Pirates, giving up an unearned run on three hits over four innings. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander only tossed 57 pitches (34 strikes) before exiting the game with Milwaukee ahead 5-1, giving Davies no chance to pick up an easy win. He'll take the mound one more time in 2019, carrying a 3.61 ERA and 100:50 K:BB through 154.2 innings into a road start Friday against the Rockies.
Sep 16 2019Davies (10-7) gave up one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four through five innings to earn the win over the Padres on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies delivered five innings with only four baserunners and did enough to earn his 10th win of the season. Five innings seem to be the current expectation for Davies, as he hasn't pitched more than five frames since mid-July. The 26-year-old has a 3.70 ERA with 98 strikeouts through 29 starts this season. Davies is scheduled to make his next start Saturday against the Pirates at Miller Park.
Sep 11 2019Davies gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings during Wednesday's win at Miami. He had three strikeouts and did not qualify for the decision. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Davies entered the fifth inning with a 5-2 lead, but he was pulled at 89 pitches with one runner on base only for the bullpen to surrender the lead anyway. The 26-year-old has a 3.77 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 94:48 K:BB through 145.2 innings and lines up to pitch Monday versus San Diego.
Sep 7 2019Davies (9-7) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings while striking out four in a 7-1 victory over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The red-hot Nicholas Castellanos touched him up for a solo shot, but otherwise Davies cruised through his five frames before being lifted after 79 pitches (47 strikes). He'll take a 3.69 ERA and 91:46 K:BB through 141.1 innings into his next start Wednesday in Miami.
Aug 31 2019Davies allowed four hits and one walk while striking out two over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.
Aug 25 2019Davies (8-7) allowed four runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts across four innings while taking a loss against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Aug 19 2019Davies (8-6) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over five innings Monday, striking out four batters and taking the loss against the Cardinals.
Aug 16 2019Davies (back) will come off the injured list to start Monday's game in St. Louis, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Aug 13 2019Davies (back) is on track to rejoin the Brewers' rotation during their upcoming road trip, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Aug 10 2019Davies (back) threw a successful bullpen session Saturday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Aug 5 2019Davies (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports.
Jul 28 2019Davies (8-4) gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one through five innings to take the loss against the Cubs on Sunday.

Jul 23 2018Davies (shoulder) is scheduled to start Thursday for Low-A Wisconsin and then make a pair of starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies has been out since late May with a shoulder issue and has also suffered from back tightness. He got through a sim game Monday and now has a comprehensive rehab schedule on tap. Assuming that all three rehab starts come on the standard four days' rest, he could be lined up to return Aug. 10 in Atlanta.
Jul 6 2018Davies (shoulder, back) suffered another setback in his rehab Friday, as his back tightened up during a throwing session, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Manager Craig Counsell acknowledged that the Brewers would need to take a more conservative approach with Davies' rehab, and at this point it seems possible that we may not see him back in a big-league game before August or even September. Brent Suter hit the disabled list with forearm tightness, so it seems that Milwaukee will really need to lean on their young starting pitchers in the short term before potentially adding reinforcements at the trade deadline.
Jun 30 2018Davies' (shoulder) rehab start Friday for Low-A Wisconsin was cut short due to a lower-back issue, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. He exited the start after 48 pitches, well short of the 80 pitches or seven innings the Brewers had planned for Davies to achieve in what could have been his final rehab start before rejoining the big-league rotation. After this setback, Davies is now without a clear timetable to resume his rehab assignment. This means Brent Suter and Freddy Peralta will stick in the big-league rotation for now.
Jun 26 2018Davies (shoulder) is on track to rejoin the Brewers' rotation next week, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. When asked Tuesday Davies said his shoulder feels "great," which provides optimism that he has moved past the soreness that has plagued him since early May. Davies is set to make one more rehab start Friday with Low-A Wisconsin, and as long as all goes well that day, he will take the bump for the Brewers around the middle of next week and likely bump Freddy Peralta from the rotation.
Jun 25 2018Davies (shoulder) threw 57 pitches over 4.1 innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday.Davies tossed just 31 pitches and 1.2 innings in a rehab start with Colorado Springs on June 19, but he was able to up both numbers his second time out. Davies was expected to make at least three rehab starts before rejoining the Brewers, so look for an update on his status after he takes the ball again later this week.
Jun 16 2018Davies (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies completed another successful bullpen session Saturday and is now on tap for at least three rehab starts. The Brewers seem to be exercising additional caution as the 25-year-old makes a return from rotator cuff inflammation for the second time in the last month, giving him a likely return date in early July if he avoids any setbacks.
Jun 13 2018Davies (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issue, but is several weeks away from returning to the Brewers' rotation, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.Details regarding Davies' recovery from his latest setback have been minimal up to this point, but on the heels of a successful throwing session Wednesday, manager Craig Counsell indicated that Davies would throw "several mound sessions" then make "2-3 rehab starts" before coming off the disabled list. That likely pushes Davies' return date to sometime in July, but a better estimate will be able to be made once he is sent out on an official rehab assignment.
Jun 6 2018Davies (shoulder) will not return from the 10-day disabled list during this weekend's series in Philadelphia, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. There was a possibility that Davies would be back in action for Sunday's series finale but the club announced that he won't be an option to rejoin the rotation just yet. The right-hander went down with right rotator cuff inflammation following his start against the Cardinals on May 29. Outside of this update, the Brewers have remained relatively quiet regarding his status, but a plan for his return should come into focus in the near future. In his place, Freddy Peralta could make another spot start after tossing 6.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
Jun 1 2018The Brewers placed Davies on the 10-day disabled list Friday with right rotator cuff inflammation.Davies mentioned he was dealing with some shoulder soreness after his last start, and the Brewers are in the midst of an eight-day stretch in which they play just five games, so the club decided to place him on the disabled list to give him ample recovery time without taking up a roster spot. Neither Davies nor the Brewers have expressed much concern about Davies' setback, so as long as he is just dealing with only soreness and nothing worse, he should miss just one start, and figures to rejoin Milwaukee's rotation on or around June 9, the first day he is eligible to be activated from the DL.
May 30 2018Davies mentioned after his start Tuesday that he felt some lingering soreness in his shoulder thanks to a comebacker that struck him in his previous start, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies did not blame his struggles in two starts since returning from the disabled list on the injury, but he did say "everything hasn't felt great" his last two times out. Given that he took the ball Tuesday it would seem he will be good to go for his next scheduled start, but the shoulder soreness leaves him day-to-day for now. While Davies isn't leaning on the injury, he would certainly stand to benefit to some degree from getting back to 100 percent.
May 29 2018Davies (2-5) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks across five innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals. He struck out four.Davies struggled mightily in the second inning, when he allowed four runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batsmen before escaping the jam. He settled down a bit before allowing a solo home run to Matt Carpenter to lead off the fourth. It was one of the poorer starts of the season for Davies, who's allowed nine earned runs across nine innings in a pair of losses since his return from the disabled list. He'll try to improve upon his 5.23 ERA in his next scheduled start this weekend against the White Sox, though the team could elect to use him next Tuesday against the Indians.
May 24 2018Davies (2-4) took the loss against the Mets on Thursday, giving up four runs on six hits over four innings, striking out two and walking two in the Brewers' 5-0 loss.Davies (shoulder) was shaky his first start after getting activated off the disabled list, giving up a run in the third inning before getting tagged with three in fifth and exiting the contest after throwing 81 pitches. He now has a 4.74 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP through 38 innings and he'll look to bounce back in his next start, which will come at home against the Cardinals next Tuesday.
May 23 2018Davies (shoulder) was activated ahead of Thursday's start against the Mets, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies had already been confirmed for this start, so the activation was simply a procedural move. He logged a 4.24 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB in 34 innings (six starts) prior to landing on the DL. Brandon Woodruff was optioned to Triple-A as a corresponding move.
May 21 2018Davies (shoulder) is expected to start Thursday against the Mets, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies has been on the 10-day disabled list for most of May, but it sounds like he'll be activated ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Mets after getting through a minor-league rehab start with no issues over the weekend. The Brewers will likely wait and see how he feels after a between-starts bullpen session Tuesday, but the 25-year-old is trending towards rejoining Milwaukee's rotation later this week. Prior to landing on the shelf, Davies compiled a 4.24 ERA across six starts. His return to the rotation likely means that either Brent Suter or Brandon Woodruff will be sent to the bullpen.
May 21 2018Brewers manager Craig Counsell said that Davies (shoulder) would be evaluated during a between-starts bullpen session Tuesday before it's determined whether he'll be activated from the 10-day disabled list this week or require another minor-league rehab start, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies was flawless in his first rehab outing Saturday for Low-A Wisconsin, covering 4.2 scoreless innings and whiffing nine while throwing 44 of his 56 pitches for strikes. The exceptional control Davies displayed is an indication that the rotator cuff irritation in his throwing shoulder is no longer much of an issue, but the Brewers may want to see him build up his pitch count a little more before slotting him back into the big-league rotation. If the Brewers are satisfied enough with Davies' bullpen session to activate him this week, the earliest he could take the hill would be Thursday's series opener against the Mets. With Chase Anderson (illness) returning from the DL on Monday and Davies seemingly in line for an activation soon after, two of Brent Suter, Freddy Peralta and Brandon Woodruff figure to lose out on spots in the Milwaukee rotation.
May 20 2018Davies (shoulder) allowed two runs while striking out nine over 4.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Low-A Wisconsin on Saturday. The results were pristine, and most importantly, there were no reported issues with the shoulder. That said, Davies only built up to 56 pitches in the outing and it seems likely that he will require at least one more rehab start to prepare for a return to Brewers' rotation.
May 17 2018Davies (shoulder) will make a rehab start with Low-A Wisconsin on Saturday.Davies threw a bullpen session Wednesday, and the results must have been encouraging, as he is set to resume pitching in games this weekend. It's not clear how many rehab starts Davies will need before being activated from the disabled list, but if he is deemed ready after just the lone minor-league outing, he would rejoin the Brewers' rotation later next week.
May 15 2018Davies (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies has been out for over two weeks with a nagging shoulder injury. If his bullpen session goes off without a hitch, he'll advance to throwing in a simulated game or partake in a minor-league rehab start. An update on his condition should be provided following his Wednesday workout.
May 13 2018Davies (shoulder) will play catch Sunday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies is on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. If he's able to throw with no apparent setbacks Sunday, he'll advance to throwing off a mound in the coming days. His timeline for return is still a bit foggy, but his rehab results over the next few days will shed some light on his eventual return date.
May 10 2018Davies (shoulder) said he "didn't feel right" during his bullpen session Wednesday and will not pitch during the Brewers' series against Colorado this weekend, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies said he shut his bullpen session down after 10 pitches or so, though he added that he wasn't overly concerned about the setback. He's expected to take a few more days off before attempting to throw again, after which there should be a clearer idea regarding when he might return to Milwaukee's rotation. For now, Brandon Woodruff is expected to summoned from the minors to start for the Brewers on Friday.
May 10 2018Davies (shoulder) will not start Friday against the Rockies, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies is on the 10-day disabled list with right rotator cuff inflammation and was originally hoping to return Friday when first eligible. That no longer appears to be the case, however, as the Brewers have listed Brandon Woodruff and Chase Anderson as their starters against the Rockies on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Davies threw a bullpen session Wednesday, though it's unclear if he suffered a setback or if the team is simply playing it safe and giving him some extra time to recover. Milwaukee hasn't announced a starter for Sunday's series finale, so Davies could still potentially return to action over the weekend.
May 9 2018Davies (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issues, and if he feels fine Thursday, he will start the following day against the Rockies, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The Brewers were hoping Davies would miss just one start when they placed him on the disabled list last week, and as of now it appears that will be the case, with no setbacks reported since. An official announcement regarding Davies' status for Friday's contest figures to be made at some point Thursday.
May 3 2018Davies was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with right rotator cuff inflammation. This comes as a bit of a surprise, as there had been no word of any injury following Davies' solid outing against the Cubs in his last start. Fortunately, the move appears to be precautionary, as the Brewers are only expecting the right-hander to miss one start while on the shelf. The move is retroactive to Monday, so Davies will be eligible to return May 10. The Brewers will simply push their rotation up by a day to account for Davies' absence, with Junior Guerra, Jhoulys Chacin and Chase Anderson now lined up for the team's three-game series against the Pirates. Seeing as Milwaukee is working with another off-day Monday, the team can simply stick with a four-man rotation until Davies is activated, assuming that happens when -- or shortly after -- he's first eligible. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Friday's series opener against the Pirates.
Apr 29 2018Davies (2-3) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks across 5.2 innings while taking the loss Sunday against the Cubs. He struck out three.Davies cruised through the early part of the game, allowing just one man past first base through the first four innings. He surrendered an RBI single to opposing pitcher Tyler Chatwood in the fifth before loading the bases and allowing another run before his removal in the sixth. Davies nearly turned in a quality start, but Chatwood pitched a gem of his own and walked away with the victory. Davies has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts and will cake a 4.24 ERA into his next scheduled outing against the Pirates.
Apr 24 2018Davies (2-2) got the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings against the Royals. It wasn't an overly dominant outing, but Davies still earned his second straight quality start while only striking out a pair but inducing 11 groundouts. The 25-year-old has sprinkled in a couple of blow ups in his five starts, but in the other three he's gone at least six innings and allowed either one or zero runs. He won't overpower anyone, as his 6.4 K/9 is an improvement on last year's 5.8 mark, but if he keeps holding opposing offenses in check, he could be worth a flier. Davies lines up to take his next start Sunday against the Cubs.
Apr 18 2018Davies (1-2) picked up the win over the Reds on Wednesday, firing 6.1 scoreless innings and scattering three hits and two walks while striking out two.The Brewers defense committed three errors behind him, but the right-hander was able to escape every jam it created before turning things over to Dan Jennings and Jacob Barnes to complete the shutout. Davies has had a roller-coaster start to the season, recording two quality starts and two ugly ones in four outings, but he'll try to break that pattern Tuesday in Kansas City.
Apr 13 2018Davies gave up five earned runs in 4.1 innings on seven hits, striking out four and walking two as the Brewers fell to the Mets 6-5 on Friday. It was a disappointing showing for the right-hander coming off a solid start where he limited the Cubs to just one run over six innings and struck out eight. Opponents are hitting .306 off him so far this year and he's got a bloated 6.75 ERA, so Davies is probably in the streaming tier of starting pitchers until he shows he's regained his solid form of last year, when he had a 3.90 ERA and 17 wins in 191.1 innings. If there is a silver lining to his uneven start to the campaign, he does have a solid 18:5 K:BB through his first 16 innings.
Apr 7 2018Davies (0-1) had to settle for a no-decision in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over six innings while striking out eight. The right-hander's only real mistake resulted in a Kris Bryant solo shot in the sixth inning, and Davies was in line for the win before the Brewers' bullpen -- without Corey Knebel (hamstring) -- fell apart in the ninth. Davies now has an impressive 14:3 K:BB through his first 13.2 innings heading into Friday's road start against the Mets.
Apr 2 2018Davies (0-1) was touched up for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits despite six strikeouts over 5.2 innings Monday against the Cardinals.Davies was undone in a fifth inning by a home run by his counterpart for the Cardinals, starter Miles Mikolas. Everything was sharp for Davies until he approached that third time through the order. Davies showed top-half-of-the-rotation quality at times for the Brewers in 2017, but he'll have to show he can be more consistent if he is to take the next step in 2018.
Mar 25 2018Davies will start the Brewers' home opener, Monday, Apr. 2 against the Padres.Davies will throw one more before the exhibition season comes to a close, but it has already been a successful spring for him outside of a brief hiccup with an oblique injury. Davies has shown no ill effects of the injury, giving up just one earned run in 8.1 innings over two outings since returning to game action. While his first regular-season start will not come until the Brewers' fourth game, he was pushed back intentionally to give him the honor of starting the first game in Milwaukee in 2018, and is locked into the starting rotation as long as he stays healthy.
Mar 17 2018Davies (oblique) allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out three batters in 3.1 innings Saturday against the Rockies.Davies, who missed his previous start due to an oblique strain, looked solid in his return to Cactus League action. He now owns a 4.26 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB across 6.1 spring training innings. Barring any setbacks throughout the remainder of spring, Davies is expected to start the team's home opener against the Cardinals on April 2, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Mar 12 2018Davies (oblique) will pitch in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Rockies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Davies was able to get through three innings of an intrasquad game Monday with no issues, clearing the way for him to rejoin the Brewers' rotation over the weekend. If he gets through Saturday's contest as planned, Davies should be on track to be ready for the start of the season. Assuming this is the case, he would likely get the ball during the Brewers' opening series against the Padres.
Mar 9 2018Davies (oblique) is expected to throw a simulated game within the next few days and then toe the rubber in a Cactus League contest barring any setbacks, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies stated that he had no issues with the oblique during his bullpen session Friday and that everything "felt great." Though he's not completely out of the woods just yet, it seems likely that Davies will be fully operational come Opening Day. More should be known following his upcoming simulated game, including a date for his next Cactus League outing.
Mar 8 2018Davies will continue his normal throwing program Thursday before testing his oblique during a bullpen session Friday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. On Wednesday, manager Craig Counsell said that Davies is expected to miss one Cactus League start due to a minor left oblique strain. Davies has remained in good spirits, stating that he's feeling "really good" and that he isn't concerned about the injury. The right-hander added that he plans to "cut it loose" Friday, as he would rather test if now than have a setback closer to the season, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
Mar 7 2018Davies is set to miss one Cactus League start due to a minor left oblique strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.Manager Craig Counsell stated that this injury isn't considered serious but the club will stress precaution with the right-hander as Opening Day looms just three weeks away. He will test the oblique during a bullpen session within the next few days to determine whether he will need more time to recover. Davies posted a 3.90 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over a career-high 191.1 innings last season, and was able to find a groove in the second half of the campaign to cement a spot in the Brewers' rotation for 2018.
Feb 28 2018Davies will start in his Cactus League debut Wednesday against the Giants, Tom Haudricourt and Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.Though Davis' first outing of the spring came later than many of the Brewers' other pitchers in camp, manager Craig Counsell stressed that the right-hander isn't behind schedule or dealing with any unreported health issue. Instead, Davies' lack of work to date speaks to his security in the team's rotation, with Counsell indicating that some combination of Davies, Chase Anderson and Jhoulys Chacin will take the hill for the Brewers' first series of the regular season against the Padres. Counsell indicated that Davies isn't experimenting with any new pitches coming off a season in which the 25-year-old supplied a 3.90 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 191.1 innings, and is instead using his exhibition appearances to get a better feel of his command prior to Opening Day.
Sep 30 2017Davies will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Cardinals, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The Brewers were eliminated from postseason contention with a loss Saturday, and with that, the team has decided to turn to Aaron Wilkerson instead for the 2017 finale. Davies had a nice fantasy season, but his value was closely tied to his 17 wins, and pitcher wins can be unpredictable (see: Rick Porcello). The 24-year-old Davies had a bottom-seven K-BB% among qualified starters.
Sep 26 2017Davies allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over four-plus innings in Tuesday's win over the Reds. He did not record a strikeout nor factor into the decision.Davies clearly didn't have his best stuff working for him Tuesday, as he had trouble locating his pitches and was frequently squared-up in his four-plus innings of work. He was sitting at 66 pitches after allowing the first two hitters of the fourth inning to reach base when manager Craig Counsell gave him the hook with Joey Votto at the plate. He's now alternated good and bad starts over his past four outings and will look to close out his regular season on a high note in the upcoming series against the Cardinals.
Sep 21 2017Davies gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in seven innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Cubs.He needed just 77 pitches (51 strikes) to cruise through seven frames, but in a crucial close game against the division leaders, manager Craig Counsell understandably opted to pinch hit for Davies in the bottom of the seventh inning. Davies was coming off his shortest and possibly worst start of the year, so this was an impressive outing in a huge game that the Brewers ended up losing in extra innings. He lines up to start Tuesday at home against the Reds and then again on the last day of the regular season in St. Louis.
Sep 17 2017Davies (17-9) landed in the loss column after allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out two batters in four innings Saturday against the Marlins. It was a forgettable night for Davies, who hadn't allowed six earned runs in his previous six starts combined prior to Saturday. The outing was also his shortest of the season; the only other time he failed to pitch five innings was in his first start of the year. Still, he owns a league-leading 17 wins to go along with a respectable 3.89 ERA through 180.1 innings this season, so he should be kept in most lineups - unless you're in dire need of strikeouts - even with a matchup against the Cubs next on the docket.
Sep 10 2017Davies (17-8) allowed just a single run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six batters through seven innings during Sunday's win over the Cubs. The 24-year-old righty continues to stymie opposing hitters and has now allowed just five earned runs through 39.1 innings over his past six starts. With 17 wins and a 3.67 ERA for the campaign, Davies has been a strong enough fantasy contributor that owners can settle for his underwhelming 1.33 WHIP and 6.1 K/9. Davies projects to make his next start against Miami at Marlins Park.
Sep 5 2017Davies (16-8) gave up two runs -- one earned -- on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings Tuesday, which was enough to hand him a loss to the Reds. He struck out four.Milwaukee's offense didn't give him enough support, but Davies continued his streak of terrific mound performances -- over his last five starts, he's allowed only four earned runs in 32.1 innings, good for a 1.11 ERA. Of course, Davies' lack of strikeout ability means stretches like that are hard for him to sustain, but he's done well to keep the ball on the ground (and thus not over the fence) this year. That said, his 2016 numbers were better in a number of categories -- K/9, BB/9 and FIP, for a few examples. He'll make his next start Monday at home against the Pirates.
Aug 26 2017Davies (15-7) earned the win over the Dodgers on Saturday, giving up three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk. The right-hander stymied the best team in baseball for the second time this season -- he pitched six scoreless frames against them back in June -- ending the Dodgers' 13-game winning streak. Davies now has a 2.28 ERA since the All-Star break despite a couple hiccups against the Phillies and Twins. After a shaky first three months, Davies has reemerged as a viable option in nearly all formats.
Aug 21 2017Davies (14-7) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings but took the loss Monday against the Giants.Davies threw his sixth quality start in his past seven outings, but the Brewers didn't give him a single run in support. Davies now owns a 2.92 ERA since the All-Star break. His 35:17 K:BB over 52.1 innings is uninspiring, but Davies has allowed just two home runs over eight starts, and he'll continue to excel if he can keep the ball in the yard like that.
Aug 16 2017Davies (14-6) picked up the win over the Pirates on Tuesday, giving up only one run on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings while striking out two. While the right-hander has been far from dominant lately, managing only a 5.3 K/9 over his last six starts, his ability to generate weak contact and keep the ball in the yard has led to a 2.20 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over that stretch. Davies will look to keep rolling Monday in a favorable road matchup against the Giants.
Aug 10 2017Davies (13-6) allowed seven runs (six earned) on a season-worst 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 5.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Twins.Davies was victimized by a lot of light contact, as 10 of the hits against him were singles with the lone exception being an Eddie Rosario double. This outing ended a stretch of four consecutive quality starts in which Davies posted a 0.94 ERA despite a 4.11 xFIP, so his luck was due to swing back the other way at some point. The 24-year-old right-hander's ability to induce ground balls at a 48.4 percent rate has allowed him to find success despite a paltry 5.98 K/9, so expect him to bounce back in his next start Wednesday against the Pirates.
Aug 5 2017Davies (13-5) tossed seven shutout innings on one hit and two walks while striking out two to earn the victory Saturday against the Rays.Davies was locked up in a pitcher's duel, as he left the contest with a one-run lead, but the bullpen was able to preserve his 13th victory of the season. He's allowed just three earned runs over his last four starts to lower his ERA from 5.08 to 4.18, and during that time he's been an outstanding fantasy option. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Twins.
Jul 30 2017Davies (12-5) allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out six batters through seven innings during Sunday's loss to the Cubs.Davies entered Sunday's outing with 14.2 scoreless frames through his previous two starts, so this was another solid showing. With 12 victories already this season, Davies has established himself as a serviceable fantasy asset for owners that have lived with his underwhelming 4.42 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 6.2 K/9. He lines up for a road start at Tropicana Field against the Rays next.
Jul 25 2017Davies (12-4) tossed 7.2 shutout innings in Tuesday's win over the Nationals, allowing three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.Davies was excellent in this one, shutting down one of baseball's most prolific offenses while delivering his longest outing of 2017 while tying his season high in punchouts. He yielded one extra-base hit and permitted just two men to reach second base on the evening. Davies has now gone 14.2 innings since last allowing a run, with his ERA falling to a respectable 4.45 during that span. After a poor start, the 24-year-old seems to be turning a corner and will look to keep it going Sunday against the Cubs.
Jul 19 2017Davies went seven innings against the Pirates on Wednesday, allowing just an unearned run on eight hits and a walk while striking out four. He didn't factor into the decision in the eventual 10-inning loss.Davies turns in sharp outings like this one every now and again, but he tends to put way too many men on base (1.49 WHIP) while striking out way too few hitters (6.0 K/9) -- not a formula for success in the fantasy realm. Yes, he somehow owns an 11-4 record, but don't mistake that for an indication of success on the mound. The soft-tossing righty's next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Nationals.
Jul 14 2017Davies (11-4) picked up the win despite allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings Friday against the Phillies.Davies was gifted an eight-run second inning and just barely managed to keep the floodgates from bursting. This has been the story of Davies's season thus far. He was getting an average of six runs of support per game entering Friday's start, fifth most among all qualified MLB starters. Davies's ERA is up to 5.08, though, so don't get too enamored by that slick win-loss record.
Jul 6 2017Davies (10-4) collected his 10th win of the season Thursday against the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings pitched. He also struck out three and walked none. The right-hander filled the zone all afternoon, firing 71 of his 102 offerings for strikes. He got into some trouble in the third inning, but he managed to escape thanks to some nice defense behind him. Davies continues to be blessed by tons of run support, but he has also stepped up his game as of late, sporting a 2.84 ERA in his past three starts. He'll make his next start against the Phillies on the Sunday following the All-Star break.
Jul 1 2017Davies (9-4) allowed four runs on five hits and two walks in six innings during Saturday's win over the Marlins. He struck out five.Davies continues to benefit from some exceptional run support this season, as he is tied for the second-most wins (nine) in the National League despite some unimpressive numbers. The 24-year-old has only notched four quality starts in 17 tries this season, and his 5.03 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 60 strikeouts across 91.1 innings fail to move the fantasy needle. He's lined up to make his next start Thursday against the Cubs.
Jun 25 2017Davies (8-4) pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and a walk during Sunday's win over Atlanta. He didn't record a strikeout.Davies had surrendered 15 runs through 15 innings over his previous three starts, so this was a nice rebound. He's been the beneficiary of excellent run support this season, as his underwhelming 4.98 ERA and 1.51 WHIP aren't the marks of a typical eight-game winner. Failing to strike out a batter Sunday also dropped his K/9 to a low-end 5.8. While there's hope he can lower his ratios, Davies isn't an overwhelmingly intriguing fantasy asset in at this stage of the game. He projects to make his next start against Miami at Miller Park.
Jun 20 2017Davies (7-4) gave up seven runs on 10 hits -- including a pair of homers -- in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates. He struck out four, walked one and hit a batter.A mediocre starter at best and a disaster at worst, Davies belongs on only the most desperate fantasy owners' rosters. The 24-year-old righty has seen his strikeouts decline while his walks and homers have increased, and that's resulted in only three quality starts among his 15 outings this year. He'll next draw the Braves on Sunday.
Jun 16 2017Davies allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out just a single batter during Thursday's win over St. Louis. He didn't factor into the decision. After flashing some upside through the first 34 starts of his career over the past two seasons, Davies has underwhelmed in 2017. He sports a lackluster 4.91 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 6.3 K/9. His seven wins soften the blow of his poor ratios, but his fantasy floor and ceiling are still both low at this stage of the game. He projects to face the Pirates at Miller Park in his next start.
Jun 5 2017Davies (6-3) pitched six scoreless innings with just three hits and a walk allowed while striking out six batters during Sunday's win over the Dodgers.Sunday's outing stands out from an otherwise mediocre campaign for the 24-year-old righty. Davies sports a 4.69 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 6.5 K/9, and his 4.93 FIP suggests he might actually be overachieving. Still, he posted a 3.92 ERA and 3.88 FIP through the first 34 starts of his career, so his smoke-and-mirrors pitch arsenal probably has positive regression ahead. He has a daunting road matchup against the Diamondbacks up next, though.
May 31 2017Davies gave up two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings Tuesday against the Mets. He struck out just a single batter and didn't factor into the decision. He'd delivered his first two six-inning outings of the season in his last two starts, but Davies wasn't able to last that long this time. The 24-year-old was able to limit the damage against him, but he continues to play with fire in every outing because he misses precious few bats and is rather homer-prone; he didn't give up a homer in this one for just the third time in 11 starts. Davies is a low-end streaming option at best right now.
May 18 2017Davies allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings Thursday against San Diego. He struck out three. It was a solid performance for the 24-year-old righty, who got through the sixth inning for the first time this season. He entered this contest having won four of his last five decisions, and looks to be trending in a positive direction after a disappointing April in which he featured a 6.57 ERA and 1.86 WHIP. He'll take the mound again Wednesday at home against Toronto.
May 14 2017Davies (4-2) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out just two batters over five innings during Saturday's win over the Mets. This wasn't Davies' sharpest showing, but Milwaukee blew the game open with an eight-run fifth inning, and he left as the pitcher of record. Davies had allowed just eight runs through 21 innings over his previous four starts, and he's now won four of his past five outings. Don't overlook the 24-year-old righty in favorable matchups. A road start at Petco Park against the Padres is up next for Davies.
May 7 2017Davis (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings during Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.Davis has now won three of his past four starts with just eight runs allowed and 21 strikeouts over 21 innings. After finishing 2016 with an 11-4 record and 3.54 ERA over 25 starts, his current stretch has him trending in the right direction again. With the pool of starting pitchers decimated by injuries, Davis could be a serviceable option to slot in against favorable opponents. He lines up to face the Mets at home next week.
May 1 2017Davies allowed two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three over five innings for a no-decision in Monday's 7-5 win over the Cardinals.Davies has yet to go over 5.1 innings in any of his starts this season, and he needed 81 pitches in Monday's outing. The right-hander was able to lower his ERA to 6.07 on the year. Home runs have been a problem for him in his six starts, as he's allowed five of them. Davies has a 7.6 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 and is a very mediocre fantasy starter across the board.
Apr 26 2017Davies (2-2) scattered six hits and a walk over five scoreless innings while striking out six in Tuesday's 9-1 win over the Reds.He needed 95 pitches (65 strikes) to barely qualify for the win. but this still ranks as Davies' strongest outing of the season so far. Despite an ugly 6.57 ERA and 1.86 WHIP, the 24-year-old does seem to be steadying the ship and has a 21:7 K:BB over his last 20.1 innings, offering an encouraging sign that he'll be able to keep chipping away at those ratios. Davies will next take the mound Monday in St. Louis.
Apr 21 2017Davies (1-2) collected his first win of the season Thursday against St. Louis, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks across 5.1 innings. He also fanned five Cardinals.Despite being one of the few pitchers to be a lock for the rotation heading into the season, Davies has been less than stellar this season, with Thursday's start being no different. Just 57 of his 99 offerings went for strikes, which led to a lot of hitter-friendly counts and ultimately chased him from the contest after 5.1 frames. The right-hander was fortunate that the Brewers' offense was clicking, but he'll look to hold up his end of the bargain better in his next start Tuesday against Cincinnati.
Apr 16 2017Davies (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings during Saturday's loss to Cincinnati.Davies entered 2017 with a serviceable 3.92 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over the first 34 starts of his career dating back to 2015. Those numbers don't move mountains in the majority of settings, and especially with a 19.4 strikeout percentage, but Davies was a viable streaming option and NL-only arm. Things have gone much worse to start this season, though. The 24-year-old righty has allowed 14 runs through three starts and sports a 8.79 ERA (4.89 FIP), 2.02 WHIP and 15.5 strikeout percentage. There is potential for Davies to turn it around, but you'll likely want to take a wait-and-see approach in all formats.
Apr 9 2017Davies (0-2) allowed five earned runs and seven hits in five innings of work against the Cubs on Sunday. The brunt of the damage inflicted on Davies came in the first inning when the Cubs scored four runs. After giving up another run an inning later, he seemed to settle down, allowing him to finish his start with three scoreless innings. Now two starts into the season, Davies is still looking to find his fastball command that is paramount to his effectiveness as a pitcher.
Apr 4 2017Davies (0-1) coughed up six runs on nine hits and four walks in 4.1 innings during Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies. He struck out only one.It was a rough beginning to the 2017 season for Davies, who threw just 50 of 98 pitches for strikes Tuesday. The 24-year-old was surprisingly reliable for the Brewers last year after shaking off an 8.78 ERA in April, though, so he'll likely have a long leash this year if he has another slow start.
Mar 2 2017Davies is a lock for the Opening Day rotation, according to Brewers manager Craig Counsell, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies and Junior Guerra will headline the quintet. Though Guerra had the sparkling season in 2016, Davies' improvements were lost in the shuffle. The 24-year-old's control (2.09 BB/9) says he's ready to take the next step in his development, one that fantasy owners hope will lead to an increase in strikeouts. His changeup remains a highly intriguing pitch that could facilitate his growth as a secret breakout arm.
Sep 17 2016Davies (11-7) gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings in Saturday's 11-3 victory over the Cubs. He struck out five. The young righty was solid against a dangerous Cubs lineup, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes and inducing 14 swinging strikes overall. Davies troubles were limited to the first inning, when he gave up an RBI triple to Kris Bryant and a 388-foot two-run shot to Chris Coghlan. He settled down from that point forward, notching his second victory in his last three decisions. Davies will try for two in a row when he takes on the Reds next Saturday.
Sep 5 2016Davies (10-7) allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 6.2 innings on Monday against the Cubs. He gave up six hits, walked two, and struck out three.Davies has been on a roll of late, allowing just six earned over his last 19 innings. The 23-year-old had a couple hiccups in August, but has been a serviceable option for the Brewers all season. He'll carry a 4.01 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into his start Sunday against St. Louis.
Aug 29 2016Davies allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out nine over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Monday against St. Louis.Davies has rebounded from a disaster start August 18 against the Cubs with a pair of quality starts. Nine strikeouts ties his season high, set twice before this season, June 1 against the Cardinals and June 24 against the Nationals. Davies allowed two more home runs and has now served up 18 in 24 starts this season, but he has a sharp 117:34 K:BB in 139.1 innings and has been one of the few Brewers starters to show promise for the future in 2016.
Aug 25 2016Davies (10-6) allowed one run on five hits, struck out eight and walked three over six frames in a victory over the Rockies on Wednesday.Nolan Arenado smashed a solo bomb in the first inning, but that's all Colorado would push across against the right-hander. Davies threw 60 of his 101 pitches for strikes and stranded the other five base runners for the Rockies. He is 10-6 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 108 strikeouts over 133.0 innings this season. He will pitch again versus the Cardinals on Monday.
Aug 18 2016Davies (9-6) was hammered over four innings by the Cubs in Thursday's loss. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out four.Davies, who held the Cubs to one run over 6.1 innings just a few starts ago, was lit up for a season high in hits and runs allowed. The 23-year-old righty has been the Brewers best arm overall this season, but he's struggled mightily in his last two outings. After going 9-1 over a 16-game stretch from May 10 to August 8, Davies has now dropped his last two starts while giving up 12 runs on 18 hits -- spiking his ERA from 3.58 to 4.18 -- over just nine innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start Wednesday at home against the Rockies.
Aug 13 2016Davies (9-5) allowed five runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked one in a loss to the Reds on Saturday. He had limited Cincinnati to just one run in five innings, but after allowing the first four base runners to reach in the sixth, Davies exited without recording an out in the frame. He now has a 3.80 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 123.0 innings this season.
Aug 8 2016Davies allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three over seven innings in a no-decision Monday against Atlanta.Davies was done in by a pair of solo home runs and struggled to miss bats, as he induced just four swinging strikes in 93 pitches. However, he kept the floodgates from bursting with 14 groundball outs, including the spoils of two double play balls. Davies has been somewhat prone to the home run ball this season (14 in 20 starts), but he has mitigated it with solid control (2.2 BB/9) and a 47.6 percent groundball rate.
Aug 2 2016Davies (9-4) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings in a win Tuesday over the Padres.Davies had his four-start quality start streak snapped, but he has still won all of his past four decisions. He continues to show sharp control, as he hasn't walked more than two batters since June 7 against Oakland. Davies owns a 3.57 ERA and is unlikely to be anything more than a mid-rotation starter, but he has been exceptionally consistent, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding him on a rebuilding Brewers team.
Jul 28 2016Davies (8-4) pitched 6.1 quality innings, allowing two earned runs, six hits and one walk while striking out five in Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks. The sophomore right-hander is rolling through the dog days of summer, collecting his fourth straight quality start while winning his third straight decision -- which includes victories over the NL division leaders, the Cubs and Nationals. Davies performance Thursday afternoon knocked his ERA down to a season-best 3.59 and made him 8-1 since May 10. There's a chance he's been overlooked in many leagues due to the team he plays for, but Davies has done more than enough to earn respect under any format. He draws a favorable matchup with a pathetic Padres lineup in his next start Tuesday.
Jul 23 2016Davies (7-4) allowed one run on three hits, struck out four and walked two over 6.1 innings in a victory over the Cubs on Saturday. The 23-year-old has been on quite a run, allowing just three runs in his last 20 innings. The three hits Davies allowed Saturday were the fewest for him in a start since he yielded three hits versus the Mets on June 12. He is now 7-4 with a 3.64 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 80 strikeouts in 99 innings this season. Davies will look to keep it going on Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.
Jul 17 2016Davies (6-4) came away with a no-decision Sunday despite holding the Reds scoreless for seven innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five.He and Dan Straily traded goose eggs for seven innings before Billy Hamilton scampered home on a passed ball in the ninth inning for the game's only run. Davies wasn't particularly sharp, throwing 59 of 92 pitches for strikes and just 14 first-pitch strikes to 23 batters, but Cincinnati hitters weren't able to make much solid contact against him. He'll next take the mound Saturday in a tough home matchup against the Cubs.
Jul 16 2016Davies was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday and will start Sunday's finale against the Reds, the MIlwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.Davies was sent down to Colorado Springs prior to the All-Star break and did not pitch for the Sky Sox as the organization wanted to give him an extended rest period. The right-hander, who's 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 15 starts, will be making his first start since July 5.
Jul 5 2016Davies (6-4) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs, nine hits and one walk while striking out three in Tuesday's win over the Nationals. The 23-year-old rebounded nicely after allowing nine runs on 15 hits over his previous two starts combined. After going winless in the season's first month, Davies is now 6-1 since May. He allowed a career-high three homers in his last start, but made a nice adjustment Tuesday by keeping the ball down in the zone and inducing a season-high 11 groundouts. The sophomore will hit the break sporting a 4.10 ERA after 15 starts.
Jun 30 2016Davies (5-4) took it on the chin at home Thursday against the Dodgers. He was hooked after allowing six runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out three in just 4.1 innings.Thursday's outing snapped a long streak of effective starts for Davies. From May 4 through Wednesday -- covering Davies' last 10 starts -- he was 5-0 with a 2.46 ERA, tied for 10th best in the NL over that period. The sophomore right-hander entered the game with a respectable 3.74 ERA, but left it with a blemished 4.22 mark. Davies three strikeouts were his least amount since May 10 when he whiffed just one batter. He'll look to start a new streak in his next start Tuesday in Washington.
Jun 17 2016Davies stayed sharp in Friday's start versus the Dodgers, allowing just one run with six strikeouts and one walk across seven strong innings. He did not factor into the decision as the game was decided in extra innings.Davies pounded the strike zone at a 64% clip and induced an impressive 15 swinging strikes, but the Brewers offense couldn't mount much of a charge and failed to help secure his fifth straight win. The right-hander has been on a roll over his last four starts, as he now has a 27:5 K:BB ratio and a minuscule 0.96 ERA over 28 innings during that span. He looks to be developing into a fine major league starter and will look to keep it rolling next Friday versus Washington on two extra days' rest.
Jun 7 2016Davies (4-3) gave up two runs on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts over seven innings in a win Tuesday over the Athletics.Davies carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning only to have it broken up by a Billy Butler two-run home run. Still, Davies came away with another start to be proud of on the heels of his eight shutout innings with nine strikeouts last time against the Cardinals. Davis has allowed more than two earned runs just once in his past seven starts after a rough beginning of the season that left him with an 8.78 ERA after his first three outings. Davies has his ERA down to 4.29 after Tuesday's effort and is realizing some of the promise he showed in a brief major league stint in 2015 (3.71 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 34 innings for the Brewers).
Jun 1 2016Davies (3-3) threw eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits, striking out nine and walking none in a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. This is by far the best start of his career. Davies has posted a scoreless outing two other times in his career, but in neither one did he pitch eight innings or not walk a batter. Additionally, the nine strikeouts were a new career high. The most punchouts Davies had in a start prior to Wednesday was six. He threw 73 of his 105 pitches for strikes, inducing 13 swing-and-misses and recording 24 called strikes. Davies will look to keep this going in his next outing Tuesday against Oakland.
May 28 2016Davies (2-3) surrendered six hits and five runs (two earned) over 5.2 innings in Friday's 9-5 victory over the Reds. He struck out four.It didn't look good early, as Davies was touched up by Adam Duvall for a three-run homer in the opening frame. However, the 23-year-old settled down after that point, only surrendering a sacrifice fly to Tyler Holt and a solo homer to Joey Votto before exiting with a man on and two out in the sixth. Despite notching two victories in his last three trips to the mound, Davies continues to make things interesting, having surrendered 11 runs (eight earned), including five homers, over that span.
May 15 2016Davies allowed two runs on three hits while striking out six over 6.1 innings, but received no decision Sunday against the Padres.Davies had a one-run lead before allowing a solo homer in the seventh inning that cost him an opportunity to pick up a win. He's now held opponents to two runs in each of his last three starts to lower his ERA to 5.58. He'll make his next start Saturday at the Mets.
May 10 2016Davies (1-3) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.Davies lasted just long enough to get through five innings and secure the win behind the 10 runs of support the Brewers gave him, but it was shaky all the way. The Marlins put runners in scoring position in four of Davies' five innings. He couldn't miss bats, as he induced just two swinging strikes, and he threw just four more strikes (43) than balls (39). Davies has a rough 14:13 K:BB in 24.1 innings, and his 6.29 ERA isn't going to get much better unless he can find his control soon.
May 4 2016Davies struck out three and walked three while holding the Angels to two runs on five hits over six innings in a no-decision Wednesday. The quality start Wednesday is Davies' first of the 2016 campaign in four tries. Given the lack of alternatives, he'll continue to occupy a spot in the Milwaukee rotation for the foreseeable future, but his struggle with walks during his brief time as a big league starter continues to be problematic. At his best, Davies will keep the ball down in the strike zone and induce a steady supply of groundouts. He's lined up for a two-start week, beginning Monday at Miami followed by a May 14 turn at home against the Padres.
Apr 30 2016Davies (0-3) gave up six hits, four earned runs and three walks over five innings in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins. He struck out five. The 23-year-old's forgettable start to the season continued, with Davies giving up at least four runs for the third time in his three trips to the mound. A complete lack of run support by his teammates versus the Marlins' Adam Conley certainly didn't help, as the Brewers found themselves completely blanked until the final frame. Davies didn't help his cause by frequently missing the strike zone, throwing only 54 of his 92 pitches for strikes. He's generated a 10:7 K:BB ratio on the season over 13.1 innings, and will try to right the ship in his next start on Wednesday against the Angels.
May 24 2015Davies, 22, has a 3.03 ERA and 32:14 K:BB through 38.2 innings for Triple-A Norfolk. What Davies lacks in size he more than makes up for in the ability to make his pitches. He had a 3.35 ERA and 109:32 K:BB in 110 innings last season at Double-A Bowie. While not overpowering, Davies does induce a bevy of groundballs. In 2015, he has a 1.63 GO:AO.
