Jun 28 2025Turner went 4-for-6 with a double, two solo home runs, four total runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 13-0 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Paul Casella of MLB.com, Turner briefly considered deliberately missing home plate on his second long ball of the night in the ninth inning -- which by rule would have been scored a triple instead, giving him his major-league record fourth career cycle. The shortstop has been locked in during the month of June, slashing .307/.352/.564 over 24 games with eight doubles, six homers, six steals, 12 RBI and 20 runs.
Jun 16 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and an additional run scored in Monday's 3-2 victory over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Philadelphia shortstop took Miami starter Sandy Alcantara deep on the game's second pitch to notch his 18th career leadoff homer. Turner also tallied another RBI on a single in the seventh to stretch his team's lead to 3-1. The 31-year-old has been carrying the Phillies' offense this month, as he's now batting .328 (19-for-58) with three homers, 13 runs scored, eight RBI and five steals across 14 June games.
Jun 15 2025Turner went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored Sunday's 11-4 victory over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was the fourth multi-game of the month so far for Turner, who rapped his eighth extra-base hit of June. The All-Star shortstop has been a force atop the Phillies' lineup -- he's slashing .311/.374/.553 with 14 extra-base knocks, 16 RBI, 20 runs scored and nine stolen bases over his last 115 plate appearances (25 games). Turner has nine multi-hit efforts during that stretch, and he's recorded at least one hit in 19 of those contests.
Jun 7 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies managed only seven hits in total on the night, with Turner being the only one to record multiple knocks. The All-Star shortstop has banged out five extra-base hits (three doubles, two homers) over the last five games, and over the last 20 contests he's slashing .318/.359/.600 with five long balls, seven steals, 16 RBI and 18 runs.
Jun 4 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner kicked off a six-run first inning with a two-run homer off Bowden Francis and later added some insurance with a solo blast in the eighth. This was his eighth game this season with at least three hits and his first with multiple homers. In 14 games since May 19, Turner is hitting .339/.394/.678 with five homers, 13 RBI, 12 runs, six steals and a 5:9 BB:K.
May 25 2025Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner accounted for three of Philadelphia's four runs Sunday and logged his fifth multi-hit game in his last seven appearances. The shortstop's three RBI marked a season high. On the year, Turner is slashing .310/.365/.443 with five home runs, 14 stolen bases and 37 runs scored.
May 23 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 4-3 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner took the fourth pitch of the game 426 feet to center field off Jacob Lopez. Turner also added an RBI single that ended up being a vital insurance run in the ninth inning. He's logged multiple hits in four of the last five games while swiping a bag in three straight contests. The shortstop is up to a .310/.364/.433 slash line with four homers, 20 RBI, 34 runs scored, 13 steals, nine doubles and two triples across 49 games this season.
May 22 2025Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 9-5 victory versus Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner led off the game with a single and scored the first run on a double steal and subsequent throwing error. The star shortstop added a 424-foot solo blast -- the first of back-to-back jacks with Bryce Harper -- in the third inning. The long ball was Turner's first in his past 13 games, but he's been effective at the plate of late. Over his past three contests, Turner has gone 7-for-15 with four extra-base hits (two doubles, a triple and Wednesday's home run).
May 20 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with two RBI, a double, a triple and a run scored in Monday's 9-3 victory over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was notably Turner's second triple in his past four outings, and he now has 15 multi-hit games on the season. The All-Star shortstop has been sizzling at the dish over his last 21 contests, a stretch where he's batting .359 (33-for-92) with one home run, four doubles and 10 RBI to go with 17 runs scored and four stolen bases. Turner is tied for fourth in the National League with 56 hits overall in 2025.
May 7 2025Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner snapped a 24-game homerless skid Wednesday, also registering his sixth multi-hit game in his last nine outings. During this nine-game stretch, the All-Star shortstop has gone a sizzling 18-for-39 (.462) with two doubles, five RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases. Turner is now up to 10 multi-hit efforts on the season.
May 1 2025Turner went 3-for-4 with one run scored in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of Turner's hits resulted in singles, and he came around to score in the sixth inning on a Nick Castellanos infield single. Turner has collected three hits or more in three of his last four games and has gone 13-for-30 with five runs scored and five RBI over his last seven outings. He ranks in the top-15 in the National League in hits (34), steals (six) and batting average (.298).
Apr 19 2025Turner went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 11-10 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies didn't hit a home run on the afternoon among their 18 knocks, but six different players recorded multiple hits led by Turner's four. The shortstop has had a sluggish start to the season at the plate, but he's more than capable of turning things around quickly. Through 19 games, he's now slashing .257/.337/.351 with one homer, five steals, six RBI and 12 runs.
Apr 9 2025Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in a 4-3 victory versus Atlanta on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner broke a 3-3 tie with his solo blast to left-center field in the ninth inning, and that run held up as the decisive margin of victory for the Phillies. It was a much-needed big hit for the veteran shortstop, as he entered played Wednesday with just one extra-base knock and one RBI through 33 plate appearances. Turner is off to a somewhat slow start to the campaign, but he has been impactful on the bases with four steals, and he holds a solid .395 OBP so far.
Apr 4 2025Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner was the only member of the Philadelphia lineup to log an extra-base hit against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Friday, and he was able to cross the plate on a throwing error after stealing third base in the first inning. Although Turner has just one extra-base knock over 19 plate appearances thus far, the star shortstop is hitting .313 with two runs scored, two steals and three walks in the early going.
Apr 2 2025Turner went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday's 5-1 win against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner didn't start in any of the Phillies' previous three games while dealing with back spasms, though he was able to pinch run Monday. That appearance served as a precursor to his return to the lineup and to the field Wednesday, and the veteran shortstop showed no ill effects from the back issue, as he tallied three hits -- including an RBI single in the seventh inning. Turner has reached base safely in five of his first 11 plate appearance to begin the campaign.
Mar 31 2025Turner (back) drew a walk and scored a run as a pinch hitter in Monday's 6-1 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner hit for the left-handed-hitting Brandon Marsh against Rockies southpaw Scott Alexander, and he then crossed the plate for a go-ahead run on an Edmundo Sosa double in the seventh inning. Although Turner's appearance Monday doesn't necessarily guarantee he'll be back in the lineup for Wednesday's meeting with Colorado, the fact he was healthy enough to enter the contest suggests the star shortstop is nearly fully recovered from back spasms that scratched him from the lineup Saturday against Washington. Prior to Monday's matchup, Turner reported improvement and expressed about returning Wednesday.
Mar 30 2025Turner (back) isn't expected to be in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner missed a second consecutive game Sunday due to lower-back spasms, and it appears the Phillies plan to take advantage of Tuesday's team off day and give the shortstop four straight days of rest. Assuming the 31-year-old sits as expected, Edmundo Sosa is likely to receive another start at shortstop Monday.
Mar 29 2025Turner was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus Washington due to lower-back spasms. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The severity of Turner's injury is unclear, though it's apparently enough of an issue to keep him out of Saturday's contest. While he recovers, Edmundo Sosa will fill in at shortstop and bat ninth.
Feb 18 2025Manager Rob Thomson said last week that he's considering moving Kyle Schwarber down to third or fourth in the Phillies' everyday lineup this season, potentially clearing the way for Turner to serve as the club's primary leadoff hitter, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In 2024, Schwarber started 149 of the Phillies' 162 games out of the leadoff spot, with Bryson Stott (10 starts) and Whit Merrifield (three) setting the table in the other 13 contests. Merrifield wasn't re-signed in free agency, and Stott doesn't appear to be an ideal candidate to slot in atop the lineup when the Phillies are at full strength since it would create an imbalance atop the batting order with three lefties (Stott, Schwarber and Bryce Harper) in the first four spots. With Thomson having acknowledged after the past season, during Winter Meetings and last week that he feels Schwarber's power production would be better served in the No. 3 or 4 spot behind Harper, Turner represents the most logical candidate to fill the void atop the lineup. Turner batted exclusively out of the two-hole in 2024, but he made 15 starts out of the leadoff spot during the 2023 campaign and saw plenty of usage atop the order during his stints with the Nationals and Dodgers earlier in his career. A move to the leadoff spot could open up increased running opportunities for Turner, whose 19 steals in 2024 were his fewest in a season since the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
Sep 23 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with two steals and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner had two of the five hits the Phillies managed in the game and swiped multiple bases for the second time in his last three contests. He has at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, posting a .343 average over that span. Turner is treading around the .300 mark for the season once again, slashing .298/.342/.465 with 19 homers, 59 RBI, 84 runs, 19 steals and a 27:94 BB:K in 514 plate appearances.
Sep 20 2024Turner went 2-for-5 with two steals, two runs scored and one RBI in Friday's win against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old shortstop pilfered his 16th and 17th bags in this contest, marking his second time notching two stolen bases in a game this season. Turner is now riding a six-game hitting streak over which he's collected multiple hits three times. Overall, it has been another solid year for the Philadelphia star when in the lineup, as he's hit .299 with 19 homers, 83 runs scored and 59 RBI across 113 games.
Sep 10 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers in Tuesday's 9-4 win over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner put the Phillies ahead 4-2 with his first home run off Taj Bradley in the third inning before cranking another two-run shot off Edwin Uceta in the eighth to cap the Phillies' five-run frame. Turner had gone just 1-for-10 in his previous three games prior to Tuesday's three-hit, four-RBI performance. The shortstop is now slashing .299/.345/.474 across 467 plate appearances this season with 18 homers, 55 RBI, 78 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
Sep 7 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner was one of four Phillies with three hits in the 16-2 thrashing of the Marlins. He wasted no time making an impact early; Turner singled and scored in the first inning before drilling a two-run shot in the second. He later added an RBI double and another run scored in the fifth. Turner has gone 17-for-54 (.315) over his last 13 games, driving his season slash line up to .300/.347/.467 with 38 extra-base hits and 15 steals through 100 games.
Aug 31 2024Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-0 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner made decent contact in August, going 28-for-112 (.250) over 27 contests for the month, but just eight of those hits went for extra bases. This homer was his fourth over the last 38 games, matching the amount of long balls he hit in the week before the All-Star break. The shortstop is now at a .299/.343/.462 slash line with 15 homers, 48 RBI, 70 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and 20 doubles over 95 contests this season.
Aug 24 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 11-2 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner had gone 0-for-16 over his previous four games before snapping the slump in a big way Saturday. All three of his hits were singles in this contest, but he also delivered multiple RBI for the third time in his last 14 games. The shortstop got his batting average back over .300 -- he's hitting .302 with an .810 OPS, 14 home runs, 46 RBI, 67 runs scored and 14 stolen bases across 88 contests this season.
Aug 14 2024Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner went 2-for-16 at the dish over the Phillies' last four games and hadn't had a day off since July 31, so manager Rob Thomson will give the veteran shortstop a chance to regroup before Philadelphia opens a four-game series with Washington on Thursday. Edmundo Sosa will replace Turner at shortstop and bat seventh.
Aug 12 2024Turner went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner singled his first time up, stole second and eventually scored on double from Alec Bohm. He was held in check for the remainder of the game and is now up to 14 steals for the year. It's been a rough stretch lately for Turner, who's still hitting over .300 for the season but is slashing just .172/.209/.230 with a homer, five RBI, eight runs and a 4:17 BB:K over his last 20 games. He's only driven in two runs so far this month and has just two extra base hits. For the year, the 31-year-old is slashing .301/.347/.468 with 13 homers, 39 RBI, 59 runs and an 18:66 BB:K in 352 plate appearances.
Jul 31 2024Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner will join fellow lineup regulars Bryson Stott, J.T. Realmuto and Brandon Marsh on the bench while manager Rob Thomson gives all four players rest for the day game after a night game. Edmundo Sosa will step in at shortstop for Turner, who had started every contest since the All-Star break while slashing .167/.231/.292 with two home runs and one stolen base.
Jul 24 2024Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner got to work early in this one, swiping his 13th base of the season in the top of the first inning before taking David Festa deep in the fifth to tie the game. The hamstring injury that cost Turner six weeks earlier this season appears to have sapped his stolen base production -- the 31-year-old has just three steals since returning on June 17. Even so, the shortstop has been on a tear in the month of July, batting .356 with 10 home runs, 22 RBI, 18 runs scored and three stolen bases in 18 games played.
Jul 11 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base during Thursday's 5-1 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has been red-hot in July, with Thursday's solo homer off Anthony Banda the shortstop's sixth homer in the month. Turner also added his 12th pilfer of 2024, swiping second base after being walked in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old is slashing .348/.393/.529 with nine home runs across 244 plate appearances.
Jul 9 2024Turner went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner's grand slam off Bobby Miller put the Phillies ahead 8-0 in the fourth inning. It's the fifth homer in eight games for Turner, who's now batting .341 (28-for-82) with 17 RBI in 19 games since returning from the injured list on June 17. He's slashing .342/.387/.516 through 235 plate appearances this season with eight homers, 27 RBI, 44 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.
Jul 5 2024Turner went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner belted a two-run shot in the fourth inning followed by another in the sixth. He's gone deep five times in 16 games since returning from the injured list, with four of those coming in his last four games. Turner has knocked multiple hits in eight of those 16 games, good for a .338 average. On the year, he's slashing .341/.386/.510 with 21 extra-base hits and 22 RBI through 49 contests.
Jul 3 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI during Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner homered off Hayden Wesneski in the third inning to give Philadelphia a 3-0 lead, and then again in the fifth to put the team in front, 5-1. An RBI single in the seventh frame capped off the Phillies' scoring and gave Turner his sixth hit in the past two games. The 31-year-old shortstop is now slashing .367/.406/.667 with two homers and six RBI over his last seven games and has recorded four multi-hit performances in that span.
Jun 30 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner gave himself the best birthday present by driving in the go-ahead runs in Sunday's win. He hit a two-run single in the seventh to complete the Phillies comeback after trailing 6-2. Turner has had three multi-hit games over his last five and at least one hit in 10 of his last 12. The veteran has been doing very well since returning from the injured list June. 17 and is now hitting .332/.380/.453 for the season.
Jun 21 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner hit a two-run home run off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning then added an RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh. Turner has gone 5-for-14 since returning from the injured list with a hamstring injury, and the homer was his first since April 17. He has been excellent when healthy this season, slashing .344/.389/.470 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 29 runs scored and 10 steals over 162 plate appearances.
Jun 19 2024Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner's absence for Wednesday's day game is likely part of a predetermined maintenance plan for the veteran shortstop, who returned from a six-week stay on the 10-day injured list Monday. The 30-year-old exhibited no apparent signs of being nagged by his left hamstring while starting Monday and Tuesday and going 3-for-10 with a run scored between those contests. Edmundo Sosa will spell Turner at shortstop in the series finale versus San Diego.
Jun 17 2024The Phillies activated Turner (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll start at shortstop and bat second in his return to the lineup for Monday's series opener versus the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner rejoins the first-place Phillies following a six-week absence with a strained left hamstring. He didn't go out on a rehab assignment prior to being activated, so it's possible Turner will some extra off days mixed in as he returns to action. Edmundo Sosa performed well as Turner's main replacement at shortstop and will most likely return to a bench role, though the Phillies have discussed the possibility of getting him some reps in the outfield.
Jun 16 2024Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Turner (hamstring) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has been on the shelf since May 4 with a left hamstring strain, but he'll rejoin the big club without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand after the Phillies came away from his recent workouts convinced enough that he's at or near full health. Once he's formally activated from the IL ahead of Monday's game against the Padres, Turner should settle back in as the Phillies' everyday shortstop, pushing Edmundo Sosa back into a utility role. Sosa performed well during Turner's extended absence, and Thomson recently floated the possibility of Sosa seeing some looks in the outfield once Turner is back in the fold.
Jun 14 2024Turner (hamstring) could be activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday or Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While the Phillies have been vague about Turner's timetable, Gelb notes that the shortstop ran again Friday and while he could "maybe" return Sunday, it will "probably" happen Monday. Philadelphia begins a six-game homestand on Monday against the Padres. Turner has been shelved since early May with a left hamstring strain and it's looking like he'll skip a rehab assignment.
Jun 9 2024Turner (hamstring) said Sunday he's "getting close" to returning from the 10-day injured list, and it's possible he's activated within the next week, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Rob Thomson indicated the shortstop is running at about 75-to-80 percent of full speed, which makes a return this week seem less likely. Turner isn't expected to embark on a rehab assignment before being reinstated, however, which shortens his potential return timeline. The 30-year-old will attempt to get back to running full speed this week in Boston, which could be one of the final hurdles before he's cleared for game action.
Jun 3 2024Turner (hamstring) had a minor setback when he felt some leg soreness following a high-intensity workout May 25, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner resumed workouts this past weekend, doing some light jogging and change-of-direction running in addition to fielding grounders and hitting in the cage. The Phillies haven't offered a timetable for when he will run the bases, and Turner will need to start up a running program in addition to taking part in sliding drills before he's cleared for a rehab assignment. Turner will travel with the Phillies for their series in London against the Mets later this week to continue workouts, but he won't be activated from the 10-day injured list. After he had seemingly been trending toward an earlier-than-expected return, Turner now looks to be at least a couple weeks away from rejoining the Phillies lineup.
May 25 2024Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Turner (hamstring) ran at a higher intensity Saturday, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner could progress to running the bases as soon as the Phillies' series in San Francisco against the Giants which begins Monday. He will need to complete that step and also see live pitching before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment, but rehab games wouldn't seem to be too terribly far off if he continues moving in the right direction.
May 21 2024Turner (hamstring) hit on the field and ran at 80 percent effort level Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has ramped up his workouts over the last week and has not reported any soreness in his left hamstring. The Phillies have been encouraged by Turner's progress, but they insist he won't be rushed and have not offered an amendment of the shortstop's initial six-week timetable. However, Friday will be just the three-week mark of the injury, so it sure seems as though Turner is ahead of schedule.
May 16 2024Turner (hamstring) went through a workout at Citizens Bank Park for the second straight day Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner went through agility drills and took grounders on the field and also hit in the indoor batting cage. While the Phillies are not ready to say the shortstop is progressing from his left hamstring strain ahead of schedule, it sure seems like he might be. Turner is less than two weeks into a projected six-week recovery timetable.
May 15 2024Turner (hamstring) went through agility drills and fielded grounders at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner is less than two weeks removed from suffering a left hamstring strain, so it would seem to be a positive development that he's already working out on the field. Phillies manager Rob Thomson insisted Wednesday that "there is no timeline" for Turner's return, but it's possible the shortstop has a shot to beat the initial six-week recovery timetable he was projected for upon being placed on the 10-day injured list May 4.
May 4 2024Turner (hamstring) said Saturday that he expects to miss at least six weeks with his left hamstring strain and that a return sooner than that "would be a win," Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner strained his left hamstring Friday against the Cubs, and he was placed on the 10-day IL a day later. It's a big blow for the Phillies, as Turner has been one of their most productive players at the plate this season with an .852 OPS, second on the team behind Alec Bohm. Six weeks would take Turner to a potential return for mid-June, though the star shortstop could be out until July depending on how he progresses in his rehab. Philadelphia will turn to Edmundo Sosa to be the primary shortstop with Turner on the shelf, and Bryson Stott could shift over from second base in platoon lineups against right-handed pitching.
May 3 2024Turner was removed from Friday's game against the Giants due to left hamstring soreness, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner stole second base and then scored from second on a passed ball during the fourth inning, but he was replaced on defense by Edmundo Sosa before the fifth frame. It remains unknown how severe Turner's injury is, but the Phillies should offer an update on his status in the near future.
Apr 17 2024Turner went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Wednesday's 7-6 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner went back-to-back with Kyle Schwarber in the first inning for solo home runs off Ryan Feltner, marking the shortstop's second long ball of 2024. He's been on a tear during the Phillies last two series, going 12-for-29 (.413) at the plate with six extra-base hits and seven runs scored over seven games.
Apr 14 2024Turner went 3-for-4 with a solo home run with an additional RBI during Sunday's 9-2 loss to Pittsburgh. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner was the lone source of offense for the Phillies, notching a solo homer off Mitch Keller in the third inning and then driving in Johan Rojas on a fifth-inning single. Turner is slashing .302/.371/.397 with four stolen bases across 16 games played.
Apr 10 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner was one of three players in the lineup to have two hits but was the only one who was active on the basepaths, picking up his fourth steal of the season. He's now had multiple hits in three of his last four games but has totaled just two extra-base hits so far.
Apr 7 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's win over Washington. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner doubled in his first at-bat before coming around to score on a J.T. Realmuto home run two batters later. The star shortstop then added an infield single and swiped a bag in the eighth, giving him three steals on the season. Turner has now hit safely in seven of nine games to open the 2024 campaign but is still looking for his first home run.
Apr 2 2024Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Monday's 6-3 loss against Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old has gone 4-for-15 with two runs and two stolen bases in his first four games to begin the new campaign. The All-Star speedster has batted out of the two-hole every game to begin the year, and given Philadelphia's high-powered offense, he has a good chance for another 100-run season.
Oct 3 2023Turner went 2-for-3 with one walk and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Marlins in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner entered the contest with 30 stolen bases across 155 games in the regular season and Tuesday marked his sixth multi-steal game of the year. He has now gone a perfect eight-for-eight on the basepaths for his career in the postseason, working to a cumulative .245/.289/.346 slash line with 23 runs and eight RBI in the process.
Sep 30 2023Turner (elbow) will be held out of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Rob Thomson stated after the second half of Saturday's twin bill that Turner is fine, but he'll miss Sunday's matchup. He'll presumably be good to go for the Wild Card Series, though confirmation on his availability likely won't come until early next week.
Sep 27 2023Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies punched their ticket to the playoffs with Tuesday's win over the Pirates, so Turner will receive Wednesday off after making 18 straight starts. The 30-year-old delivered an ugly first half but has a .308/.361/.621 slash line since the start of August to improve his season-long OPS to .770
Sep 13 2023Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old continued his torrid play Tuesday, swiping his 27th base and launching his 26th homer -- a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning off Atlanta closer Raisel Iglesias. Turner has been a hit machine lately, recording multi-hit efforts in 12 of his last 15 games, including four straight. In 34 games since Aug. 4, the five-tool shortstop has posted a slash line of .388/.430/.820 with an incredible 16 home runs, 10 doubles, one triple, 41 RBI, 34 runs and six steals across 151 plate appearances. Turner's batting average has risen from a paltry .236 to a respectable .272 during that same time frame.
Sep 8 2023Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, walk, two runs scored and one steal in Friday's 3-2 loss to Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner had missed the past two games on paternity leave, but celebrated with a solo homer in his first at-bat to kick off the scoring. He later added a walk, a single, a stolen base and scored both Phillies' runs to complete an all-around effort in their loss. Turner is now slashing .265/.316/.458 with a career-high 23 homers, 68 RBI, 88 runs, 30 doubles, five triples and 26 steals in his inaugural season with the Phillies.
Sep 5 2023Turner was placed on the paternity list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner will likely miss the final two games of the Phillies' three-game set in San Diego as he welcomes a new addition to his growing family. He went 2-for-6 with a homer and two RBI in Monday's series opener.
Sep 3 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a second run scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop extended his hitting streak to 13 games with yet another impressive effort, and over that stretch Turner is slashing .357/.383/.929 with nine of his 21 homers and three of his 25 steals on the season. The 30-year-old has now posted his third straight 20-25 season, and he has yet to be caught stealing in 2023 -- in fact, he's nabbed 30 straight bags dating back to last September. Turner's career 85.9 percent success rate on the basepaths is the second-highest of all time among players with more than 200 attempts, behind only Carlos Beltran's 86.4 percent mark.
Aug 30 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run and three total RBI in Tuesday's 12-7 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner's current hit streak has now reached double digits after he notched a two-run triple and a solo homer Tuesday. In those 10 games, Turner has posted a slash line of .349/.370/.860 with six home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs and a stolen base across 46 plate appearances.
Aug 29 2023Turner went 2-for-3 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's victory over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old shortstop took Lucas Giolito deep twice Monday, sending a first-inning changeup out to left center for a solo shot and later adding a two-run homer to give Philadelphia a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Turner's hitting streak now spans nine games, during which he has batted .342 (13-for-38) with five home runs, two doubles, 10 RBI, 11 runs, one steal, and a gaudy 1.155 OPS. Turner's season-long batting average has risen from .248 to .255 in that same timeframe, still a far cry from his .295 career mark.
Aug 24 2023Turner went 1-for-5 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner went back-to-back with Kyle Schwarber against Alex Cobb in the sixth inning, cutting the Phillies' deficit to 4-2. Turner has now hit safely in five straight games and has three long balls in that span. Over his last 18 contests, the 30-year-old Turner has gone 25-for-73 (.342) with a 1.015 OPS, boosting his slash line to .250/.303/.405 on the season with 15 homers, 72 runs scored, 49 RBI and 22 stolen bases across 558 plate appearances.
Aug 20 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop didn't just go yard twice against the team he made his big-league debut with in 2015, Turner went yard twice in the same inning against the same pitcher, bookending the Phillies' eight-run eruption in the eighth inning with blasts to left field off Cory Abbott. Turner's bat has come alive in August, and over the last 14 games he's slashing .370/.414/.704 with six doubles, four homers, one steal, nine runs and 12 RBI.
Aug 13 2023Turner went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies' offensive malaise Saturday didn't slow down Turner's resurgence. The shortstop has hit safely in nine straight games, collecting multiple hits in five of them and batting .457 (16-for-35) over that stretch with six doubles, two homers, one steal, six runs and 10 RBI. While his numbers on the season remain well below expectations, Turner appears to have flipped the switch and could be poised for a stretch run worthy of a player who signed a $300 million contract over the winter.
Aug 11 2023Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-2 victory over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old shortstop belted a two-run homer off Andres Machado in the sixth inning, giving Philadelphia a 2-1 lead. Turner has now hit safely in seven consecutive contests, batting .370 (10-for-27) with two home runs, eight RBI and a steal during that span.
Aug 9 2023Turner went 3-for-7 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Facing his former club, Turner collected two-baggers in each end of the twin bill, extending his extra-base hit streak to four games. The shortstop has been mired in nearly a season-long slump to kick off the 11-year, $300 million contract he signed with Philadelphia in the offseason, but despite a career-worst .677 OPS he still has 11 homers, 22 steals (without a caught stealing), 40 RBI and 63 runs through 112 games. A big finish to 2023 could re-establish him as a first-round pick at 2024 draft tables.
Aug 7 2023Turner went 4-for-12 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI during the Phillies' three-game series with the Royals over the weekend. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In what's been a disappointing first season in Philadelphia, Turner might have had his finest moment in a Phillies uniform Saturday. He contributed two extra-base hits in the Phillies' 9-6 win, including a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning that snapped a 21-game stretch without a long ball. Despite Turner's solid weekend, the Phillies aren't yet ready to move him up from the bottom-third of the lineup. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's series opener with the Nationals.
Aug 3 2023Turner is hitting eighth Thursday against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He hit seventh in the lineup July 29, and had hit sixth in the lineup the past three games, but this represents a new low for Turner. The big-ticket free agent signee is slashing .238/.303/.369 with five home runs and 14 steals in 52 games since June 1.
Aug 1 2023Turner will bat sixth and start at shortstop in Tuesday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has now batted between fifth and seventh in the order in four consecutive games while the Phillies have since tried out Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm in the No. 2 spot the shortstop had occupied for most of the season. Even though Turner has showed modest signs of a turnaround by reaching base five times in the last three games, his on-base percentage is still below .300 for the season and sits at .278 since the All-Star break. Needless to say, Turner has been a major disappointment for fantasy managers who invested a top-three pick into him on draft day after he signed an 11-year, $300 million deal with Philadelphia in December.
Jul 26 2023Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner is hitless in the first two games of the series and also got ejected from Monday's contest for arguing balls and strikes, so the Phillies may have viewed Wednesday as a good time to give him a breather. Edmundo Sosa will handle shortstop in Turner's stead.
Jul 16 2023Turner went 4-for-8 with two walks, a double, two RBI and two stolen bases across both games of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop posted nearly identical lines in each game of the twin bill, but he swiped both his bags in the matinee before rapping out his 19th double of the season in the nightcap. Turner has picked up the pace since the beginning of June, slashing .270/.335/.414 over his last 37 games with five of his 10 homers and 14 of his 21 steals on the season, and he still has yet to be caught stealing in 2023.
Jul 6 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's victory over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner reached base on a single in his second trip to the plate but was quickly returned to the dugout after a double-play ball in the following at-bat. However, he came right back in the top of the fifth and launched a hanging slider from Yonny Chirinos into the foul pole in left field to open the frame, tying the game at 4-4. It was only Turner's second home run since June 5 and marked his first RBI so far in July. He's now recorded multiple hits in three of his last six games.
Jun 29 2023Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with four steals and seven RBI during his active six-game hitting streak. The shortstop was a bit hesitant on the basepaths earlier in the year, but he's now amassed 10 steals through 25 games in June. For the season, he's slashing just .249/.304/.386 with 17 thefts, eight home runs, 29 RBI, 46 runs scored, 17 doubles and two triples over 79 contests.
Jun 25 2023Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, two additional RBI, one additional run scored and two steals in Sunday's victory over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner hit a home run and stole a base in the same game for just the second time this season. The shortstop now has eight homers, 28 RBI, 15 steals and 44 runs scored across 76 games (340 plate appearances), but he's still slashing just .248/.305/.387, which would all be his lowest marks since his rookie campaign in 2015 when he played in only 27 games.
Jun 14 2023Turner went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two steals in Tuesday's 15-3 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner notched his fourth multi-hit effort in June and is now slashing .313/.377/.500 with two homers, five RBI, 12 runs, four steals and a 5:10 BB:K over 53 plate appearances since June 1. He already has as many steals in 12 games this month as he had in April and one more than he had in May. He seems to be picking things up after a sluggish first couple of months and is now slashing .249/.297/.394 for the year.
Jun 11 2023Turner went 3-for-5 with one double, three runs scored and one steal in Sunday's victory over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner scored all three times he reached base and stole his ninth base of the season. The shortstop slashed just .208/.257/.368 across 25 May contests, but he's off to a hot start in June, totaling 13 hits (five for extra-bases), five RBI, nine runs and two steals over 10 games.
Jun 5 2023Turner went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner ripped a pair of solo shots of Tigers starter Joey Wentz. It's been a rough start for Turner in Philadelphia but his first multi-homer game Monday could be a sign of an impending breakout. He snapped an ugly 3-for-28 (.107) skid over his previous seven games. The 29-year-old is now slashing .243/.286/.398 with 23 extra-base hits and 32 runs scored through 59 games.
Jun 2 2023Turner is batting fifth for the Phillies in Friday's game against the Nationals, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the first time all season that we've seen Turner hit lower than second. He is entering play Friday sitting on a season-low .648 OPS following a 4-for-29 stretch. How long this new Phillies lineup sticks -- it features Kyle Schwarber in the leadoff spot against right-hander Josiah Gray, who was part of the package going the other way in 2021 when Turner and Max Scherzer were shipped from the Nats to the Dodgers -- remains to be seen, but the move may not be great news for Turner's immediate fantasy value.
May 28 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 win over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a fifth-inning two-bagger and also stole his seventh base of the year in the third. Turner hasn't changed his habits on the basepaths in 2023 despite the new steal-friendly rules, but he has yet to be caught stealing this season and is on pace for his seventh career campaign with 20 or more thefts.
May 24 2023Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner smacked a two-run, two-out homer off Jose Ruiz to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth before the Phillies would win it in extras. It's Turner's fifth home run of the season and his first since May 6. The clutch hit may be what Turner needed to get his season going -- he's still slashing just .250/.295/.392 with 25 runs scored, 13 RBI and six stolen bases through his first 217 plate appearances with the Phillies.
May 20 2023Turner will be on the bench Saturday against the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The start to Turner's first season in Philadelphia hasn't gone as he or the team would have hoped, but Saturday's off day (the first of the season for Turner) looks like nothing more than a routine one. After slashing .302/.355/.487 across his first eight seasons, he's hitting just .257/.302/.390 this year, and his five steals are a disappointing total given the explosion of stolen bases across the league. He's also developed an uncharacteristic strikeout problem, with 18 strikeouts in his last 12 games raising his season strikeout rate to 26.6 percent. The Phillies will hope the day off allows him to reset and get back to his old self.
May 13 2023Turner went 0-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner's 11-game hitting streak came to an end, but he still managed to be productive. The steal was his first since April 19 versus the White Sox, which was also the last time he scored multiple runs in the same game. The shortstop is slashing .256/.307/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI, five steals and 24 runs scored through 39 contests.
May 6 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Saturday in a loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner accounted for the final run of the contest with a solo shot to left field in the seventh inning. He extended his hitting streak to seven games, though this was the first time during the streak that he's collected multiple hits. Turner may not be entirely living up to the 11-year, $300 million contract he signed in the offseason just yet, but he's been fine with a .262/.301/.414 slash line, four homers, nine RBI, 20 runs and four stolen bases though 153 plate appearances.
May 2 2023Turner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 13-1 loss to the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Phillies mustered only two hits Tuesday, with Turner's blast off Julio Urias accounting for the visitors' lone run. After hitting .298 with an .809 OPS with the Dodgers last year, Turner's Phillies career is off to a slower start. He's slashed .262/.304/.392 with three homers, eight RBI, 18 runs scored and four stolen bases over 138 plate appearances, but he's also striking out at a 24.6 percent rate. He's shown signs of turning things around by hitting safely in each of the last four games.
Apr 5 2023Turner went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After singling to left field in the seventh inning, Turner swiped his first bag of the year in close fashion -- the throw from Kyle Higashioka beat him, but his slide jostled the ball out of Anthony Volpe's glove. Turner has had a blistering start to the season at the plate, batting .391 (9-for-23) through five games with a double and two triples, and after stealing 27 bases on 30 attempts in 2022, MLB's rule changes to boost the running game could allow the 29-year-old shortstop to challenge his career high of 46 steals, set back in 2017 with the Nationals.
Apr 3 2023Turner went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he didn't hit any home runs or steal any bases in the Phillies' season-opening series versus the Rangers, Turner still looks to be dialed in at the dish on the heels of his standout performance during the World Baseball Classic earlier this spring. He recorded five hits over the three games in Texas, including a pair of triples.
Mar 18 2023Turner hit a grand slam to help Team USA to an 9-7 win Saturday over Team Venezuela in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Team USA trailing 7-5, Turner crushed a Silvino Bracho offering over the left-field fence to give USA the lead and ultimately the victory. The star shortstop has his second home run of the tournament, and he's slashing .286/.375/.714 in the WBC thus far. Turner and Team USA will face Cuba on Sunday in the semifinals.
Feb 17 2023Turner is likely to open the season as the Phillies' leadoff hitter, manager Rob Thomson said Thursday, per John Foley of 2008Philz.com. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Thomson indicated that things could change when Bryce Harper (elbow) returns around midseason, but initially Turner appears pegged for the top of the batting order. His RBI total could take a hit in the role after he drove in 100 runs for the first time in 2022 while batting primarily second and third for the Dodgers. However, Turner will score a ton of runs from the leadoff spot and might also be more aggressive as a base stealer after going 27-for-30 on stolen-base attempts last season.
Dec 5 2022Turner agreed Monday with the Phillies on an 11-year, $300 million contract, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes a full no-trade clause. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner, who began his big-league career with the Nationals in 2015 before spending the past season and a half with the Dodgers, will return to the National League East after slashing .298/.343/.466 with 21 home runs, 100 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 2022. Heading into his age-30 season, Turner should maintain enough to range to spend at least a few more years as an everyday shortstop. He'll likely hit either first or second in Philadelphia's lineup, providing a significant boost near the top of the order for last season's World Series runners-up.
Oct 15 2022Turner (finger) will bat second and play shortstop Saturday in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner jammed his right ring finger sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt in Game 3, though he was able to remain in the game. His X-rays were negative, and while it's possible the injury affects him in some fashion, the fact the he's cleared not just to hit but also to throw is seemingly a good sign.
Oct 5 2022Turner went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run Wednesday in a 6-1 victory versus Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner reached the 100 RBI mark for the first time in his career with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. The speedy shortstop was one of nine major-leaguers to go 20/20 this season, finishing with 21 long balls and 27 thefts. He slashed .298/.343/.466 and ranked second in the league in hits (194) behind teammate Freddie Freeman.
Oct 1 2022Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a pair of runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner logged multiple hits for the third time in five games, and he's added a pair of steals in that span. The shortstop is now 27-for-30 in steal attempts this season, and he's swiped five bags since the start of September. He's slashing .299/.344/.467 with 20 home runs, 97 RBI and 100 runs scored through 156 contests this year.
Sep 29 2022Turner went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner and Freddie Freeman completed a double-steal in the sixth inning. The theft was Turner's first in 13 games and his 26th of the year. The shortstop is up to a .300/.345/.471 slash line while adding 20 home runs, 97 RBI, 98 runs scored, four triples and 39 doubles through 154 games this year.
Sep 28 2022Turner went 3-for-5 with a double and scored two runs in Tuesday's loss to San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers managed only three hits in the loss, and Turner was responsible for half of those. He also scored two of the team's three runs, including the game-tying tally on a passed ball in the top of the ninth. It was a promising performance following a four-game mini-slump during which Turner uncharacteristically went 1-for-12. The All-Star shortstop ranks second in MLB with 187 hits on the season, trailing only teammate Freddie Freeman (191).
Sep 20 2022Turner (back) will start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old was struck in the back by a throw and removed from the matinee as a precaution, according to manager Dave Roberts, and the shortstop's return to the lineup for Game 2 further indicates the issue isn't a serious concern. Turner extended his hit streak to 16 games by going 1-for-3 prior to his exit.
Sep 16 2022Turner went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-0 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has yet to go hitless in a game in September, as he now owns a 12-game hitting streak. In that span, he's gone 15-for-54 (.278) with eight extra-base hits, 11 RBI and three steals. The shortstop has reached the 25-steals mark for the sixth time in the last seven years, with the abbreviated 2020 campaign the lone exception. He's added a .304/.349/.485 slash line, 20 home runs, 98 RBI and 90 runs scored through 141 contests.
Sep 14 2022Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner received his first day off of the season Sept. 2 and will take a seat again Wednesday after the Dodgers clinched the NL West title with a victory Tuesday. Hanser Alberto will step in at shortstop and bat ninth in the series finale at Arizona.
Sep 11 2022Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run and RBI in an 11-2 win against the Padres on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner singled home a run and scored as part of a six-run seventh inning and tacked on a solo shot in the ninth for his third multi-hit game in his last five. The 29-year-old has hit safely in each of nine September contests, slashing .300/.333/.575 with six extra-base hits and two stolen bases.
Sep 10 2022Turner went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, three runs and three RBI in Saturday's 8-4 victory against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner scored the Dodgers' first run in the third inning and produced their next three tallies with a bases-clearing double in the fifth. He extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's batting .286 with a homer, eight RBI, six runs and two stolen bases. Turner's 94 RBI on the campaign are already a career high, and he ranks fourth in the majors in that category.
Sep 6 2022Turner went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner picked up his 23rd steal of the season after a third-inning single, and he scored on a Max Muncy home run later in the frame. While he's gone just 8-for-38 (.211) over his last nine games, he's picked up one home run, three steals and four RBI in that span. The shortstop is slashing .305/.349/.479 with 19 homers, 90 RBI, 84 runs scored, 34 doubles and two triples through 134 contests, and it's safe to assume his bat won't stay quiet for long.

The infielder is just 1-for-11 over his past three games but still leads the National League with a .316 batting average and 27 stolen bases.
Sep 10 2021Turner went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner notched half of the Dodgers' four hits in the contest and knocked in the team's lone run with a third-inning RBI single. The infielder's effort extended his hitting streak to 16 games, a career-best mark and the longest on the team this season. During the streak, he is batting .308 with two home runs, six doubles, nine runs and a pair of stolen bases.
Sep 4 2021Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout in a 6-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner ignited a three-run first inning with a leadoff home run against San Francisco starter Jay Jackson but failed to produce in his other three at-bats. He's now strung together an 11-game hitting streak though he has a single hit in all but one of those contests and is batting 13-for-43 with two doubles and long balls apiece during the streak.
Aug 29 2021Turner went 3-for-3 with a run, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner was on base four times Saturday, reaching on singles in the first, third and seventh innings and walking in the fifth. He scored in the third after swiping his 26th bag, good for third in the league, to record his seventh run in his last eight games. Turner has posted an excellent .329/.372/.506 slash line in 20 games with Los Angeles that's nearly identical to his .323/.370/.518 figures on the season.
Aug 28 2021Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday in a loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner's third-inning homer pushed the Dodgers into a 2-2 tie, but it proved to be the last run the team would tally in the game. The long ball was his 20th of the campaign, helping him join Cedric Mullins and Fernando Tatis as the only big-leaguers with at least 20 homers and 20 steals so far this season. This marks the first time in Turner's career that he has hit the 20-20 mark -- his previous season high for homers was 19 in both the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
Aug 25 2021Turner went 1-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run in a 5-2 victory versus San Diego on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner used his legs to help the Dodgers tack on a run in the eighth inning, doubling to lead off the frame before swiping third base and coming home on a sacrifice fly. In 16 games with the Dodgers, the infielder is slashing .323/.358/.484 with a home run, five RBI, 14 runs and four stolen bases.
Aug 21 2021Turner went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old entered Saturday batting .320 (16-for-50) as a Dodger, but he had yet to go yard with his new team. Turner changed that quickly, leading off the bottom of the first with a long ball, his 19th of the year, which matches his career high from 2018 and 2019. The infielder's three-hit effort lifted his slash line to .326/.372/.520 with 54 RBI, 79 runs scored and 24 stolen bases through 110 games between Los Angeles and Washington.
Aug 19 2021Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI, stolen base and caught stealing in Los Angeles' 4-1 win against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner singled and was caught stealing second in the third while he drove home a run with his fifith inning single and was successful in swiping second thereafter. The versatile speedster is now third in the bigs with 24 steals while being caught just four times and is slashing .304/.353/.413 in 12 games since joining Los Angeles though he's yet to homer.
Aug 18 2021Turner is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner started the past 10 games for Los Angeles, but he'll receive the day off after posting a .762 OPS during that stretch. Gavin Lux will work at second base Wednesday for the Dodgers.
Aug 16 2021Turner went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, four runs and one RBI in Sunday's 14-4 win over the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old reached base five times on the night, as he was also hit by a pitch in his final plate appearance. Though his Dodgers debut was delayed by a stint on the COVID-19 injured list, Turner has quickly settled in as the team's leadoff hitter. He's hit .265 with 10 runs, three RBI and two steals through his first nine games with Los Angeles.
Aug 8 2021Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner made his first start for Los Angeles after being acquired from Washington at the trade deadline. He led off for the Dodgers and played second base, with Corey Seager remaining in his customary shortstop role. Turner flashed his MLB-best sprint speed in the contest, scoring from first base on a first-inning Max Muncy double and notching a theft in the fifth. Turner ranks fourth in baseball this season in both steals (22) and batting average (.321).
Aug 7 2021Turner is batting leadoff and playing second base Saturday against the Angels, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After fouling out as a pinch hitter Friday, the infielder will make his first start in Dodger blue. Manager Dave Roberts said Turner will be the everyday leadoff hitter going forward, followed by Max Muncy and Mookie Betts.
Aug 6 2021Turner was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Although Turner isn't starting Friday's game against the Angels, he's with the club at Dodger Stadium and could be available to make his team debut off the bench. The 28-year-old is expected to serve as the Dodgers' primary second baseman now that he's back to full health, while Corey Seager will continue to play at shortstop.
Aug 2 2021Manager Dave Roberts said he's hopeful Turner (illness) will be cleared to return from the COVID-19 injured list as soon as Friday or Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Before dealing Turner away to the Dodgers in a blockbuster trade, the Nationals placed him on the COVID-19 IL on July 29, two days after he tested positive for the virus. Turner will have to complete a 10-day quarantine before he's eligible to return from the IL, but assuming he went into isolation the day he tested positive, he may end up missing the minimum amount of time. Assuming Turner is testing negative by the time 10 days are up and he isn't experiencing any side effects from the virus, a weekend debut for the Dodgers would seem realistic. After making all 96 of his starts with the Nationals at shortstop this season, Turner is expected to settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman with Corey Seager already in the fold at shortstop.
Jul 29 2021Turner (COVID-19) will be traded from the Nationals to the Dodgers on Thursday along with Max Scherzer, in exchange for Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray, Gerardo Carrillo and Donovan Casey, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Turner has had a tremendous season, maintaining a .322/.369/.521 line across 420 plate appearances. Once he is eligible to return from the COVID-19 injured list, he'll add another explosive bat to the Dodgers' lineup. However, his fit with his new team will be interesting, as Corey Seager (hand) already occupies shortstop for the club. Though shortstop has been Turner's sole position since 2017, he had played second base and center field earlier in his career. His debut with the team will be delayed until he clears the health and safety protocols after landing on the injured list earlier Thursday.

Jul 25 2018Turner will bat seventh and start at shortstop Wednesday against the Brewers, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Turner was left out of Tuesday's starting lineup after failing to run to first base following a bunt attempt during Monday's game. He did enter the game as a pinch runner, but got caught stealing after breaking for second base a little too early. Across 100 games this year, he's hitting .263/.338/.401 with 12 home runs, 40 RBI and 22 stolen bases.
Jul 24 2018Turner is benched for Tuesday's game against the Brewers. As expected, Turner will be forced to sit out after refusing to run to first base following a failed bunt attempt Monday. There hasn't been any suggestions that Turner will be held out for more than one game, so expect him back in the lineup Wednesday.
Jul 23 2018Turner will likely be benched for Tuesday's matchup against Milwaukee, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Turner attempted to bunt for a base hit during Monday's tilt, and after a poorly executed attempt, he refused to run to first base as he started launching his equipment onto the field prior to being ruled out. After the game, manager Dave Martinez stated "There's a good chance he won't play tomorrow." Expect Wilmer Difo to get the nod at shortstop with Turner likely to ride the pine Tuesday due to a lack of hustle.
Jul 15 2018Turner went 1-for-5 with two RBI during Sunday's 6-1 victory over the Mets.Turner extended the lead to five in the seventh inning after plating a pair on a single to left. The 25-year-old shortstop went 3-for-15 during Philadelphia's four-game series against the Mets, and he'll enter the All-Star break batting .267 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI over 96 games.
Jul 13 2018Turner is not in the lineup against the Mets on Friday.Manager Dave Martinez elected to load up the Nationals lineup with left-handed hitters against Noah Syndergaard, moving Turner to the bench in favor of Wilmer Difo. Across hit last five games, Turner has gone just 1-for-21 with 10 strikeouts, so this will also serve as a little breather to clear his head.
Jul 5 2018Turner went 3-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBI in Thursday's thrilling comeback victory over the Marlins. The Nationals' leadoff hitter was the hero Thursday as he led the charge in helping his team overcome a nine-run deficit. Turner's sixth-inning grand slam gave the Nationals their first lead of the game and he added a two-run single later in the game for good measure. According to Mark Zuckerman of MASN, Turner is just the sixth leadoff hitter in MLB history to record eight RBI in a game.
Jul 1 2018Turner went 3-for-6 with a run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.Turner also went 0-for-1 in stolen base attempts on the day, bringing him to 22-for-26 in 2018. The 25-year-old shortstop in slashing .274/.357/.412 with nine long balls in 328 at-bats. He's nearing his 2017 total of 412 at-bats, but he still has a long way to go to reach his career-high 46 stolen bases.
Jun 30 2018Turner went 3-for-5 with a walk, a home run, a stolen base, four runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 17-7 rout of the Phillies. His two-run blast off Nick Pivetta in the first inning kicked off a seven-homer barrage for the Nats. Turner now has nine home runs and 22 steals on the season to go along with his .270/.353/.411 slash line, but he's found another gear lately, slashing .368/.442/.605 over his last 10 games.
Jun 24 2018Turner went 2-for-5 with a triple, a run, an RBI and a stolen base in Washington's 8-6 victory over the Phillies on Sunday.Turner had gone eight games without swiping a bag coming into this game, but he was able to get back on the board in that department with his 21st steal of the season in Sunday's contest. The steals are always Turner's biggest fantasy appeal, with his eight home runs and .405 slugging percentage both representing unspectacular numbers. He's getting on base at a solid clip, with his .348 on-base percentage through 304 at-bats falling exactly in line with his career number, so as long as he continues to do that he'll continue to offer reliable production on the basepaths.
Jun 19 2018Turner went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and two runs scored Tuesday against the Orioles.Turner's monster night Tuesday was a much-needed sign of life, as the speedy shortstop was hitting just .200 over his first 14 games in June. The strong effort raised his batting average by 11 points to a .267 mark to go along with his eight homers, 26 RBI and 20 stolen bases on the year.
Jun 6 2018Turner went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Rays.Turner reached on a pair of singles in the first and sixth innings and came around to score each time. His 17 stolen bases are the third most in the majors, trailing only Ender Inciarte and Dee Gordon. Turner is now hitting .258/.342/.398 with seven homers, 24 RBI and 35 runs across 61 games this season.
Jun 3 2018Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Braves.Turner gave the Nationals a 2-1 lead in the third inning following a 2-run home run, but they'd ultimately lose 2-4. He's been consistent at the plate lately, recording a base knock in 14 of his last 15 games. Through 59 games, Turner has swiped 16 bags, and he's hitting .260 with seven home runs and 24 RBI.
Jun 2 2018Turner went 1-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Braves. The Nats only managed two hits all night off Mike Foltynewicz, but Turner still managed to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. The shortstop hasn't exactly been on fire over that stretch, however, collecting multiple hits only three times and posting a .281/.305/.404 slash line with one homer, seven RBI, six runs and three steals.
May 31 2018Turner went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored Thursday against the Braves.Turner stole a base each of the times he made it aboard on Thursday, raising his total to 16 on the season. After going 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts in April, Turner attempted only five stolen bases in the month of May. That's a troubling sign for a player that many were counting on for 50 stolen bases this season, though on the positive side of things he has been successful on 16 of his 17 attempts so he should certainly maintain a green light.
May 22 2018Turner went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Padres. While he didn't join in the Nats' homer barrage Monday, Turner continues to sting the ball, hitting .303/.378/.667 over his last eight games with three doubles and three home runs. The 24-year-old is well on pace for career highs in all four volume roto categories this year if he can avoid the injury bug.
May 20 2018Turner went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Dodgers.Turner was the lone source of offense for the Nationals on Sunday, with his sixth home run of the season briefly giving the team a one run lead. It also continued his improved power production, as he has now hit three home runs in his past seven games. However, his stolen base production has declined drastically since the calendar flipped to May, as he is just 1-for-2 on the basepaths this month after swiping 12 bases in April.
May 14 2018Turner went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run, a stolen base and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks,After a slow start in the power department, Turner's now launched three homers in the last week to give him five on the year. Hitting at the top of the Nats' order is limiting his RBI opportunities -- all three of those recent home runs were solo shots -- but otherwise the 24-year-old is supplying fantasy value across the board, and Turner's career-high 14.8 percent walk rate is giving him an additional boost in OBP leagues.
May 8 2018Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Monday's win over the Padres. The homer was his third of the season, and second in five days. Turner now carries a .365/.459/.577 slash line over his last 14 games with nine RBI, 12 runs and four steals, and hitting at the top of a dangerous Nats lineup should allow him to continue racking up fantasy production.
May 6 2018Turner is back in the starting lineup Sunday against the Phillies, batting second in the order and getting the nod at shortstop.Turner received a rare day off Saturday, but was drew a walk during a pinch-hit appearance, proving his absence was nothing physical. He'll be right back in his regular role Sunday, however, hitting out of the two-spot for the fifth time in the last six games.
May 5 2018Turner is out of the lineup against the Phillies on Friday.Turner will retreat to the bench for the first time this season for a scheduled off day. With Anthony Rendon (toe) back from the disabled list, manager Davey Martinez elected to take advantage of having an extra body in the infield, and placed Wilmer Difo at shortstop in Turner's stead. Expect Turner back in the lineup for Sunday's series finale.
May 3 2018Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Thursday against the Pirates.Turner helped the Nationals secure the series sweep with his go-ahead homer in the sixth inning. It was just his second homer of the season -- and his first since March 31 -- but Turner has been hitting the ball hard this season, so there's reason to believe that his homers will start to come. He's now hitting a solid .281/.374/.398 with 16 runs and 12 stolen bases through 32 games.
May 1 2018Turner went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's win over the Pirates. It's his fourth multi-hit performance in the last week, and Turner now boasts a .284/.381/.379 slash line through 29 games with only one homer and seven RBI, but 14 runs and 12 steals in 12 attempts. The 24-year-old power numbers are down, but his current 39.1 percent hard-hit rate would be a career high, so don't be surprised if the home runs come over the summer.
Apr 25 2018Turner went 5-for-6 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 15-2 rout of the Giants. He now has four multi-hit performances in his last eight games, pushing his slash line on the season up to .267/.362/.366. Turner's 10 steals in 10 attempts have been driving his fantasy value so far, but Wednesday's big performance could be a sign his bat is about to catch fire as well.
Apr 24 2018Turner has been given a green light to run whenever he wants by manager Dave Martinez unless he's been specifically told to stay put, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.Martinez's faith in his shortstop's ability on the basepaths has been rewarded, as Turner notched his ninth steal in nine attempts during Monday's loss to the Giants. Teammate Michael Taylor is enjoying the same privilege, and between the two of them they've led the Nats to the top of MLB with 27 stolen bases -- six more than the second-place White Sox -- and their overall 84.4 percent success rate also ranks the team among the league leaders. Turner set a career high with 46 steals in 98 games last year, but his current pace would see him shatter that mark.
Apr 18 2018Turner went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Mets.Turner's first double came off of Mets starter Zack Wheeler in the first, and the second he hit off of reliever Gerson Bautista in the ninth. The multihit showing brings Turner's season average up to .250, and the stolen base brings his total to eight (in eight attempts). The young shortstop has played in all 18 games for the Nationals, and his newfound ability to take walks (15 walks already this year) makes his value as a base-stealer and run-scorer even more intriguing.
Apr 17 2018Turner went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 8-6 win over the Mets. He's now tied with Dee Gordon for the MLB lead in steals with seven. Turner's luck on balls in play has been poor so far -- he sports a .219 batting average fueled by a .265 BABIP that's 80 points lower than his career average -- but he'll still maintained a .359 OBP thanks to a career-high 17.9 percent walk rate, giving him plenty of opportunities to do damage on the basepaths. Once base hits start falling in for the 24-year-old, his overall fantasy value should skyrocket.
Apr 12 2018Turner is leading off Thursday's contest against the Rockies. With Adam Eaton (ankle) sidelined, Turner will take a turn hitting atop the order. He and Brian Goodwin seem like the logical leadoff candidates while Eaton is out, which could give them greater run-scoring opportunities while hitting ahead of Anthony Rendon and Bryce Harper.
Apr 10 2018Turner is batting second Tuesday against the Braves.Through the first 10 games of the season, Turner has only hit sixth or leadoff -- the latter of which only occurred when Adam Eaton was out. The speedy shortstop will now take a spot in the top third of the order, potentially opening up more run-scoring opportunities for him while he's hitting ahead of Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon.
Apr 9 2018Turner went 1-for-5 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.Despite the fact that he's hitting lower in the order, Turner already has five steals in five attempts through nine games. It's clear new manager Dave Martinez has no qualms about giving Turner a green light on the basepaths, so while the shortstop's outlook in steals would improve if he were hitting first or second in the lineup, he seems well on his way to matching or topping last season's career-high 46 SBs from right where he is.
Apr 5 2018Turner was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning of Thursday's game against the Mets for arguing balls and strikes. He finished the day hitless in three at-bats.Batting out of the sixth spot for the fourth time in seven games this season, Turner struck out in all three of his plate appearances, marking the ninth time in his career he's achieved that dubious distinction. While Turner's low placement in the batting order has been a source of frustration for fantasy owners, the shortstop has more or less met expectations thus far with a .375 on-base percentage, one home run and three stolen bases. Moreover, Turner's outlook could improve in the games to come after Adam Eaton exited early Thursday following an awkward slide into home plate. If Eaton is forced to miss time, Turner would be the top choice to fill in at the top of the lineup.
Apr 2 2018Turner is starting at shortstop and occupying the leadoff spot Monday against the Braves. With Adam Eaton getting his first breather of the season, Turner, who has been hitting fifth or sixth to start the season, will slide up to the top of the order. The speedster spent a lot of time as the Nationals' leadoff man in 2017 after Adam Eaton went down with a torn ACL, slashing .268/.289/.460 across 90 starts atop the lineup. Turner will likely jump up in the order when Eaton requires a maintenance day, and he could stick there on a more regular basis if he impresses manager Davey Martinez at the dish.
Apr 2 2018Turner went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Reds. The steal was his first of the year. Turner has been hitting down in the order in the early going, slotting in fifth Sunday, and while that may end up costing him some opportunities to run wild on the basepaths, there's no guarantee he'll be stuck there all season. The shortstop has already drawn three walks through three games, and he seems intent on proving to manager Dave Martinez he has the OBP chops to hit at the top of the order.
Mar 31 2018Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs scored Saturday against the Reds.Turner contributed to the Nationals' 13-7 rout with a solo shot off Luis Castillo to lead off the fourth inning. He batted sixth for the second straight game, which could cut into his plate appearance total, though he came to the plate five times in this high-scoring affair and reached base three times.
Mar 30 2018Turner is batting sixth and playing shortstop in Friday's game against the Reds. It's something of a surprise to see Turner moved down the order, as he hit exclusively first or second for the Nationals last season. He has prototypical leadoff man speed, though that trait has been decreasing in importance recently compared to on-base ability. Turner is respectable in that regard, with a .348 career on-base percentage, but Friday's leadoff man Adam Eaton and number two hitter Anthony Rendon both have .358 career figures. New Nationals manager Dave Martinez could be using that to drive his decision. It remains to be seen whether Turner will remain in the sixth spot or if this lineup is simply a one-off. If he sticks at sixth, it would drive down his run-scoring potential and his total plate appearances, which could leave him with fewer chances to steal bases.
Mar 21 2018Turner (toe) will man shortstop and bat second Wednesday in the Nationals' Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Turner was held out of action the past three days after experiencing an ingrown toenail, but the Nationals never expressed much concern over the injury. With outfielder Adam Eaton having recently resumed playing in Grapefruit League games and set to serve as the Nationals' leadoff hitter when the season opens, Turner will spend the remainder of the spring getting acclimated to manning the two hole on a full-time basis.
Mar 20 2018Turner is still dealing with an ingrown toenail but is expected to be back in the lineup Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. The issue remains minor and should not effect Turner by Opening Day, barring setbacks. The young shortstop is having a solid spring so far, hitting .324/.425/.353 in 14 games.
Mar 19 2018Turner has an ingrown toenail and will be held out of the Nationals' Grapefruit League game Monday against the Marlins, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. The issue is considered minor and Turner expects to return to spring action as soon as Tuesday. With Turner getting the day off Monday, Matt Reynolds will pick up the start at shortstop, according to Janes.
Mar 14 2018Turner went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.Hitting second behind Wilmer Difo in order to get him acclimated to his likely new spot in the batting order, Turner pumped his spring OBP up to .424 while swiping his first two bases. He's had some uncharacteristic contact issues so far, striking out 12 times in 33 plate appearances, but that's unlikely to carry forward into the regular season. If Turner is able to play a full schedule this year, expect the 24-year-old to be a fantasy dynamo given his ability to contribute in all five major fantasy categories.
Mar 8 2018Turner hit leadoff and went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. The 24-year-old is now hitting .353 (6-for-17) to begin the spring with a .476 OBP thanks to four walks, although he's still looking for his first steal or first extra-base hit. If Adam Eaton (knee) is ready to play by Opening Day, Turner will slip down to the No. 2 spot in the batting order, but otherwise he should once again hit atop a potent Nats lineup. If he can play a full schedule -- the shortstop has yet to play more than 98 games in a big-league season -- Turner should be poised for a very big fantasy season.
Feb 25 2018Nationals manager Dave Martinez plans to use Turner as the No. 2 hitter in the Washington lineup in 2018, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.Turner handled leadoff duties for most of 2017 after Adam Eaton (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear in late April, with the 24-year-old parlaying the favorable lineup slotting into 75 runs and 46 stolen bases. Though a healthy Eaton is set to reclaim the table-setting role during the upcoming season, Turner shouldn't lose out on any run-scoring opportunities while batting directly in front of 2015 National League MVP Bryce Harper in most games. It's less certain if Turner will remain as active of a basestealer upon moving down a spot in the order, though for what it's worth, Martinez said that the shortstop will have "free rein" on the bases, according to Collier. "I told [Turner], 'If you hit second, leadoff, wherever you hit in the lineup, it doesn't change anything,'" Martinez said. "I want him to be aggressive on the bases, and he knows that."
Sep 28 2017Turner is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.Turner is hitting a healthy .292/.364/.538 with nine stolen bases and four homers in 106 at-bats since returning from the disabled list, but he'll get the day off after starting 27 of the last 28 games. It will likely be his last breather of the season. In his place, Wilmer Difo will start at shortstop and hit leadoff.
Sep 27 2017Turner went 3-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Phillies. He's now hitting .284 (27-for-95) in September with four homers, seven steals, 12 RBI and 16 runs in 24 games. Turner is locked in as the Nats leadoff man as the team heads into the postseason, and his speed could be a big factor in the NLDS against a Cubs staff that's had issues containing the opposition's running game.
Sep 22 2017Turner is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. Most of the team's regulars are resting; Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon are all on the bench as well. This figures to be Turner's final breather of the regular season. Turner hasn't really missed a beat since his return from a wrist injury last month, and perhaps most encouraging is the fact that he's slugging .553 in 22 games since his activation.
Sep 21 2017Turner went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Braves. He led off the game with his 10th jack of the year, then helped kick-start the Nats' game-winning rally in the eighth inning with his two-bagger. Turner's put together a strong .286/.359/.543 slash line in September with three homers, five steals, 10 RBI and 14 runs in 18 games, and he seems more than ready for the postseason.
Sep 19 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Braves.Turner swiped his 41st and 42nd base of the season Tuesday, breaking Alfonso Soriano's single-season stolen base record set back in 2006. Following his strong night at the plate, the speedy shortstop is now hitting .262 during the month of September and holds a .281/.334/.443 line with nine homers, 69 runs and 42 RBI on the season.
Sep 11 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with a triple, a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Phillies. The 24-year-old appears to have finally shaken off the last of his rust following his lengthy DL stay, going 8-for-20 over the last five games with five extra-base hits (two doubles, a triple and two homers). The Nats have now clinched the NL East title, so there could be more rest days coming for Turner and the rest of the starters as the team looks ahead to October, but he should be a force at the top of the order when he is in the lineup.
Sep 8 2017Turner went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, a walk, two runs and three RBI Friday against the Phillies.Turner smashed his eighth homer of the campaign to extend the Nationals lead to five runs in the sixth inning of a home victory. Since returning to the lineup on August 29, this was his first homer to go along with three stolen bases, but with six hits over his last three contests, hopefully he's preparing to heat up for the stretch run.
Sep 8 2017Turner went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's win over the Phillies. He's been spinning his wheels at the plate since coming off the DL at the end of August, slashing .243/.349/.432 in 10 games, but Turner has seven runs and three steals over that stretch to salvage some fantasy value. The 24-year-old still has time to find his groove before the Nats head into the postseason, and despite his mediocre current form, his upside is too great to bench him even in shallow fantasy formats.
Sep 1 2017Turner went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Brewers. After going 1-for-7 in his first two games since returning from the DL, Turner found his stroke again. The 24-year-old hasn't supplied quite as much power or batting average as he did in 73 games last year, but his 37 steals in 71 games in 2017 have still given him plenty of value when he's been healthy.
Aug 29 2017Turner (wrist) was officially activated from the 60-day DL on Tuesday and is leading off and starting at shortstop against the Marlins, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports. It had already been confirmed that Turner was on track to be activated, and the Nationals waste no time deploying him back atop the lineup. With a little over a month left in the season, Turner still has plenty of time to make a significant impact in all five roto categories -- most notably steals and runs. He hit .279/.324/.422 with seven home runs and 35 steals in 68 games prior to suffering the injury.
Aug 28 2017Turner (wrist) will return to the Nationals on Tuesday, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.Turner struggled during his rehab assignment, as he went just 2-for-21 over seven games. His performance is less important than how his wrist felt after those games, though, and Turner is apparently feeling good enough to make his way back to the majors. The Nationals will be able to work Turner back slowly, as Wilmer Difo has performed admirably in his absence, but Turner's line drive ability, baserunning and defense are too good to leave on the bench down the stretch. Expect an official roster move to be made sometime Tuesday, as the Nationals will need to clear a 40-man roster spot to get Turner off the 60-day DL.
Aug 22 2017Turner (wrist) played five innings at shortstop and went 0-for-3 at the plate in his first rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. After being moved to the 60-day disabled list earlier this month, Turner won't be eligible for activation until Aug. 29, so it's expected that he'll remain with Syracuse for at least the next week. Unsurprisingly, Turner was eased back into action in his first game action since June 29, when he fractured his right wrist after being hit by a pitch. Turner should eventually play full games with Syracuse on back-to-back games before the rehab assignment comes to an end, at which point the Nationals will reinsert him back into the lineup in an everyday role at shortstop or center field.
Aug 20 2017Turner (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. He has been out since June 29 with the wrist injury, and since he is on the 60-day DL, he cannot be activated prior to Aug. 29. Once activated, he should take over as the everyday shortstop in an effort to get locked in prior to the postseason. He was hitting .279 with seven home runs and 35 steals in 315 plate appearances before the injury.
Aug 16 2017Turner (wrist) was moved to the 60-day disabled list prior to Wednesday's game, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. As Kolko acknowledged, this move will not impact Turner's timetable whatsoever, as the 24-year-old is still a couple weeks away from his return, at the earliest. The club transferred Turner to the 60-day DL due to Brian Goodwin's placement on the disabled list (groin), in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Alejandro De Aza.
Aug 15 2017Turner (wrist) took batting practice on the field Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. This is a huge step for Turner, as he had previously been limited to rotational exercises and fielding exercises. There is no specific timetable for his return to the big-league lineup, but it's possible he will be able to return before the end of the month.
Aug 10 2017Turner (wrist) has progressed to rotational exercises, but hasn't been cleared to hit as of yet, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Turner was able throw from 60-to-75 feet Wednesday while working on grounders and his tosses from second base prior to Washington's game against the Marlins. He was also able to throw from shortstop to first Thursday, which provides another key step in Turner's recovery, as he believes that he can make it back to the big-league club in time for 30-to-40 games before the end of the regular season. While that may be a tad premature, all that's left between the 24-year-old and a rehab assignment is being cleared to start hitting again. He will likely require an extended rehab assignment, but a late-August return date isn't out of the question.
Aug 9 2017Turner (wrist) was able to take grounders and throw from second base prior to Washington's game against the Marlins on Wednesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Turner has been easing his way back into the fold during his time on the disabled list, with Wednesday marking the first time that he's been able to field ground balls on the diamond. The 24-year-old will continue ramping up his efforts, as he's expected to begin hitting in the very near future. He still has a way to go before rejoining the club, but these activities provide a positive sign for Turner's progress.
Aug 7 2017Turner (wrist) may be cleared to resume hitting in the coming days as he continues to progress during his rehab, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. The Nationals will likely ease Turner into hitting activities slowly, with the 24-year-old presumably getting some work in with a tee and in soft toss before progressing to batting practice. The nature of Turner's injury will leave some question about his ability to drive the ball with authority once he eventually comes off the disabled list, but even if he's slow to regain power, he'll still likely offer enough production in terms of runs and stolen bases to bring value to fantasy owners.
Aug 2 2017Turner (wrist) will head to the Nationals' spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. later this week to continue his rehab, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.Turner has already begun to do some light throwing and may soon start swinging a bat again with his fractured right wrist starting to show some improvement. The Nationals don't expect it to be long before Turner takes part in simulated games, followed by a rehab assignment soon after that. An exact return date hasn't been fleshed out for Turner, but with the news regarding his recovery sounding positive thus far, he's probably worth holding on to in most formats.
Jul 29 2017Turner (wrist) did some light throwing on the field prior to Saturday's game, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. The throwing was described by Kolko as "very, very light," but this is positive development nonetheless. He has done conditioning work, lifting and even fielding of groundballs in recent days, but these are just the baby steps. Turner will remain without even a vague timetable until he progresses to more arduous activities.
Jul 26 2017X-rays on Turner's wrist showed healing, but he still hasn't been cleared to partake in baseball activities without the use of a wrist brace, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. It seems like some progress has been made here, although it certainly isn't encouraging to hear that he can't shed the brace yet. That being said, he's been able to do a good amount of things while wearing the brace, such as weightlifting and fielding (without throwing), so it's not like this development completely hinders the speed demon's rehab. Unless things change drastically, it doesn't seem like he'll be ready until a good portion of August is already gone.
Jul 25 2017Turner (wrist) fielded groundballs with the big-league club Tuesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. He is awaiting the results of X-rays he had earlier in the day, and while he was fielding grounders, he was not permitted to throw to first base. Turner is still wearing a brace on his wrist, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports. He did conditioning work and lifted weights recently in Florida, as he continues to make slow progress in his recovery.
Jul 23 2017Turner (wrist) will undergo follow-up X-rays in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo indicated Sunday that Turner has progressed from the fractured right wrist as anticipated, but the team won't have a clearer idea of the extent of his healing until the results of the X-rays are made available. Turner has yet to resume baseball activities and remains without a firm timetable for a return.
Jul 20 2017Turner (wrist) has begun rehabbing at the Nationals' spring training complex in West Palm Beach, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports. The shortstop has yet to be cleared for baseball activities, but he's running and staying in shape while he waits for the go-ahead to start fielding and swinging a bat. The Nats have yet to release a timetable for Turner's return, although the team has indicated that he's on schedule.
Jun 30 2017Turner (wrist) was put on the 10-day disabled list Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. In the least surprising move of the day, the Nationals placed their star shortstop on the DL following the fracture of his right wrist during Thursday's game. Adrian Sanchez was called up from Triple-A Syracuse in his place while Sammy Solis (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL to provide a roster spot. There is still no timetable for Turner's return, but more information will appear in the coming days.
Jun 29 2017Turner is being sent in for X-rays on his right wrist, MASN's Dan Kolko reports. The results are set to be released later, but this is a concerning development regardless. Turner was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of Thursday's loss to the Cubs but was able to stay in the game until the top of the ninth before being replaced by Stephen Drew. More updates on Turner's status figure to be made available late Thursday or early Friday.
Jun 29 2017Turner has been diagnosed with a broken right wrist and there is no timetable for his return, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports. This is crushing news for the Nationals as Turner had been a key cog in the top third of the lineup and a game-changer on the basepaths. He suffered the injury late in Thursday's game when he was plunked on the wrist by a pitch and was sent for X-rays directly after the game. There's no timetable for him at this point, but this is an injury that could keep Turner on the shelf for awhile. Stephen Drew and Wilmer Difo stand to platoon at shortstop in Turner's absence unless the Nationals opt to look outside the organization for other shortstop options.
Jun 29 2017Turner was removed from Wednesday's game against the Cubs before the ninth inning, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. There has been no word of any injury at this point, but Turner was hit on the wrist by a pitch in the seventh inning, so there's a possibility that had something to do with his early removal. The move could have simply been precautionary, but more should be known following the conclusion of Thursday's contest.
Jun 28 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and four stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Cubs.Little more than a week after setting a new franchise record with four steals in a game, Turner does it again. The 23-year-old now has 11 swipes in his last 15 games, pushing him to the top of the MLB leaderboard with 32 on the year -- one more than Billy Hamilton.
Jun 18 2017Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk and four stolen bases in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Mets. With Mets starter Jacob deGrom and closer Addison Reed limiting the Nationals to four hits on the afternoon, Turner received the green light from manager Dusty Baker to try and manufacture runs with his legs. While Turner was stranded in scoring position in three of his four plate appearances and never ended up crossing home plate, his aggressiveness on the basepaths allowed him to set a new franchise record for steals in a game. With 26 stolen bases on the season, Turner is just three shy of the Reds' Billy Hamilton's MLB-leading total, which is even more impressive when considering that Turner missed nearly two weeks in April with a strained hamstring.
Jun 13 2017Turner went 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Braves. He led off the game with his sixth homer of the season, setting the tone on a night when the two teams combined to put eight balls in the seats. Turner is now slashing .338/.372/.500 over his last 16 games with two homers, six RBI, 13 runs and 10 steals.
Jun 11 2017Turner is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. After starting the team's past 29 contests, Turner will receive a breather Sunday as the Nationals face off against Austin Bibens-Dirkx and the Rangers. Stephen Drew will take over at shortstop in his absence. Expect to see Turner back in the lineup Monday against the Braves.
Jun 9 2017Turner went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and three stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Orioles. The 23-year-old is arguably the hottest leadoff hitter in the league right now, and Turner has put together a .390/.432/.488 slash line with 10 steals and nine runs in his last nine games. Expect him to continue racking up big numbers in those fantasy categories from atop a very potent Nats offense.
Jun 7 2017Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. The Nats leadoff man now has 18 steals on the season, seven of which have come in the last week to go along with a .364/.400/.424 slash line. Turner's still got a long way to go to match last year's performance, but he's quickly making up for lost time.
Jun 5 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's win over the A's.It's his fifth multi-hit performance in the last seven games, a stretch during which Turner is hitting .343/.361/.400 with six runs, three RBI and five steals. The 23-year-old is now 16-for-19 on the basepaths through 45 games, putting him on pace to top 50 steals in his first full big-league campaign.
Jun 3 2017Turner went 2-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's rout of the A's.That's now five multi-hit performances in the last seven games for Turner, who has shaken off his early-season slump with a .348/.362/.478 slash line, a homer, four RBI, seven runs and five steals in his last 10 games.
May 31 2017Turner went 3-for-5 with a run scored and his 12th stolen base of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants. It's his third multi-hit performance in his last five games and Turner is starting to put his early-season slump behind him, hitting .302/.318/.442 with a homer, three steals, four RBI and six runs in his last 10 games.
May 29 2017Turner went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Padres. He seems to be putting things together at the plate, and Turner now has a .303/.324/.485 slash line over his last eight games with a homer, two steals, four RBI and five runs. Despite his slow start, the 23-year-old still has plenty of time to turn his season around.
May 26 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer Friday against the Padres.Turner launched his fifth homer of the season to put the Nationals on the board in the first inning of a winning effort. Other than his 11 steals, his subpar hitting has been a source of frustration for fantasy owners who paid a premium price to acquire him on draft day.
May 25 2017Turner went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Mariners. The 23-year-old may finally be snapping out of his early-season slump, as Turner now has six hits, four runs, four RBI and three steals in his last five games. His .242/.269/.409 slash line marks him as one of the biggest disappointments of 2017 so far given the preseason hype that accompanied him, but there's still plenty of time for Turner to turn things around.
May 21 2017Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Braves. The 23-year-old's been stuck in a slump since the calendar flipped to May, slashing .178/.208/.288 on the month with 20 strikeouts in 17 games. Turner is starting to show signs of life at the plate, however, putting together two multi-hit performances and stealing three bases over the last five games, so a breakout could be brewing.
May 15 2017Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run during Sunday's loss to Philadelphia in the first game of their doubleheader. It was the shortstop's second home run in as many days, and he's now up to 21 runs, 13 extra-base hits (four home runs), 18 RBI and six stolen bases for the campaign. His .248/.283/.442 slash line and 25.8 strikeout percentage are underwhelming marks, but leading off for the Nationals is a cushy virtual spot, and Turner boasts incredible upside with a reliable fantasy floor.
May 14 2017Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run during Saturday's win over Philadelphia. While Turner's .257/.297/.438 slash line doesn't jump off the page, he has 19 runs, 13 extra-base hits, 15 RBI and six stolen bases through just 25 games. Setting the table for a potent offense provides a high fantasy floor, and Turner's cross-category profile also presents tremendous upside.
May 8 2017Turner is out of the lineup Monday against the Orioles, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.Turner has gone hitless in his last three games, so manager Dusty Baker will give the second-year shortstop a night off to clear his mind. Wilmer Difo will assume Turner's position in the field, as well as leadoff duties.
Apr 26 2017Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two RBI and three runs in Colorado on Wednesday. He's been killing it in this series at Coors, as Turner's now 8-for-15 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, nine RBI and eight runs in three games. Great news: The Nats draw one more game at Coors on Thursday for Turner to keep padding his stats.
Apr 26 2017Turner went 4-for-6 with a double, a triple, a home run, four runs scored and a career-high seven RBI in Tuesday's 15-12 win over the Rockies. The homer was his first of the year while the cycle was the first of Turner's career, and the ninth in franchise history dating back to the Nationals' days as the Expos. The 23-year-old boosted his batting average 70 points in one night, which isn't unheard-of during an April series in Coors Field, and is now slashing .289/.308/.526 through 10 games.
Apr 22 2017Turner entered Friday's game in the 11th inning as a pinch hitter and drew a bases-loaded walk off Jeurys Familia to give the Nationals a 4-3 win over the Mets.It wasn't exactly proof that he's completely recovered from his hamstring injury, but after being activated from the DL on Friday, Turner should resume his spot as the starting shortstop Saturday and seems safe to use in fantasy lineups once again.
Apr 22 2017Turner is batting second and starting at shortstop Saturday against the Mets.It will mark the rookie's first start since April 8, when he suffered a hamstring strain that landed him on the disabled list. Turner made a dramatic return in the series opener Friday night, drawing the game-winning walk in the 11th inning as a pinch hitter. Look for the 23-year-old to improve upon his .158 average as he returns to regular action.
Apr 21 2017Turner (hamstring) was activated from the disabled list on Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports. While he's now back on the active roster, Turner will not immediately return to the starting lineup as manager Dusty Baker has opted to go with Wilmer Difo at shortstop again Friday. Turner has not seen major-league game action since going down on April 8, but it appears that will be changing very soon.
Apr 20 2017Turner (hamstring) played shortstop Wednesday during an extended spring training game and stole a base, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports. "I had urged him not to try to steal, but when running's in your blood, it's in your blood," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "Hopefully he'll be back in a couple days."It seems safe to say Turner's hamstring is feeling just fine. Expect him back in the Nats' starting lineup by the weekend.
Apr 20 2017Turner (hamstring) is expected to come off the disabled list Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.Although it looks like Turner will come off the DL on Friday, manager Dusty Baker said it's unlikely that he'll start Turner for the team's series-opener against the Mets. However, Turner was fully active in an extended spring training game Wednesday, so he should be taking the field for the big club very soon.
Apr 19 2017Turner (hamstring) is expected to continue working out at the Nationals' extended spring training facility rather than heading out on a rehab assignment in the minors, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.Turner is eligible to return from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, but the Nationals stated earlier in the week that they wanted him to take part in a brief rehab assignment before rejoining the big club, likely at some point over the weekend. However, with poor weather scheduled to hit many of the team's affiliates in the coming days, the Nationals are instead planning on just having Turner remain in Florida. He'll likely take part in some fielding, hitting and running drills and perhaps log some at-bats in simulated games before the Nationals determine he's ready for activation. Once back with the big club, he'll take back his starting role at shortstop from Wilmer Difo.
Apr 18 2017Turner (hamstring) will be sent out on a short rehab assignment, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Manager Dusty Baker confirmed that Turner will not be activated from the DL on Wednesday, when first eligible. Turner seems to be progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring strain, as he ran sprints on the field prior to Sunday's game and advanced to running the bases Tuesday. A return before the end of the weekend series against the Mets seems possible.
Apr 18 2017Turner (hamstring) is running the bases in an effort to test his hamstring, Mark Zuckerman of MASN reports.Over the past week, the speedy infielder has been ramping up his running work, and it's seeming more and more likely each day that he could return to the lineup Wednesday after the minimum 10-day absence. Nothing is set in stone as of now, and even though things are looking up, keep an eye on Turner's status heading into Wednesday's contest with Atlanta.
Apr 16 2017Turner (hamstring) was spotted running sprints in advance of Sunday's matchup against the Phillies, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports. It's another good sign for Turner, who was able to take batting practice and perform defensive drills before Saturday's game. The team has yet to commit to a Wednesday activation, but it seems as if Turner could be back in action as soon as he's eligible.
Apr 16 2017Turner (hamstring) believes he's ahead of schedule and should be ready to come off the DL when first eligible Wednesday, MLB.com's Jamal Collier reports.Turner was seen running sprints in advance of Sunday's game, and later proceeded to take batting practice and perform fielding drills for the second day in a row. He'll likely be active in pregame warmups early in the week, and although the team hasn't confirmed it, a Wednesday return is looking more and more likely.
Apr 15 2017Turner (hamstring) took batting practice Friday and had to be shooed off the field afterwards by third base coach Bobby Henley before he could get in many reps on defense, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. All signs point to Turner being ready to come off the disabled list Wednesday after the minimum 10 days, but manager Dusty Baker won't yet commit to that timetable. "He hit the other day, and said he felt pretty good. He's been getting a lot of treatment, riding the bike, and running as tolerated," Baker said. "So my experience with hamstrings is whenever they tell you they're ready, I believe in giving them another couple days." In fantasy leagues with weekly transactions, GMs with shares in Turner might face a tough choice on whether to activate him after this weekend or play it safe and wait until the following week, but either way the 23-year-old looks set to be back at the top of the Nats' batting order very soon.
Apr 10 2017Turner (hamstring) is expected to return from the DL once he becomes eligible, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Manager Dusty Baker said that the implementation of the 10-day disabled list aided in the decision to move Turner to the DL, as the team is optimistic that he won't need to miss extra time. Baker also stated that there was concern that the hamstring strain could linger throughout the season had Turner not been rested right away, which led to Washington erring on the side of caution with the young star.
Apr 10 2017Turner was placed on the disabled list with a strained hamstring Monday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.Washington had said that Turner was expected to miss a few games after suffering a hamstring injury Saturday, but it appears that he's due for a more extended absence. At this point in time, there's no timeframe for his return, but it's possible that he'll be able to return shortly after becoming eligible if his recovery doesn't incur any setbacks. With Turner out, Stephen Drew will likely see an increase in playing time at shortstop.
Apr 9 2017Turner (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. This comes as no surprise, as the speedy shortstop pulled his hamstring during Saturday's game. Turner isn't expected to miss extended time and will be replaced by the veteran Stephen Drew on Sunday.
Apr 8 2017Turner's injury that forced him to leave Saturday night's game against the Phillies is being called a pulled hamstring, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.Nationals trainers said the injury isn't too bad with manager Dusty Baker saying there's no defect in the muscle. Turner is expected to miss a couple of days, per Baker.
Apr 8 2017Turner was removed from Saturday's game with an apparent leg injury, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.Wilmer Difo came in to replace the 23-year-old, who was lifted from the game after he apparently pulled up while advancing to third on a single. More should be known about Turner's status after the game.
Apr 8 2017Turner went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Friday's win over the Phillies. The 23-year-old shortstop has stumbled out of the gate, going 2-for-18 (.111) through four games and failing to cross the plate despite the fact that he's been hitting leadoff for a Nats team producing five runs a game so far. Turner has stolen two bases, though -- not bad for a guy who's only reached base twice -- so fantasy owners who bought into his preseason hype should be patient when it comes to getting a return on their investment.
Mar 28 2017Turner went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. Both long balls came off Seth Lugo, and Turner is now slashing .279/.323/.459 on the spring in 61 at-bats with three homers and six steals in six attempts. The 23-year-old appears to be more than ready for Opening Day.
Mar 19 2017Turner went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He also committed his second error of the spring, but for the most part Turner's looked sound defensively at shortstop. His .222/.301/.343 line through 35 at-bats isn't impressive, but the 23-year-old seems locked in as the Nats' leadoff hitter and will be looking to prove his explosive rookie campaign was no fluke.
Mar 3 2017Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and his first two stolen bases of the spring in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He's just 2-for-11 to begin the spring, but both Turner's hits have gone for extra bases. The 23-year-old could have an adjustment period with his glove to begin the season as he settles in as the Nats' starting shortstop, but his bat and legs should remain very productive from the top of the order.
Feb 28 2017Turner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He once again hit leadoff, and Nats manager Dusty Baker seems committed to keeping him in that spot despite the offseason acquisition of Adam Eaton, who hit sixth in this one. Turner could have a hard time repeating his 2016 numbers at the plate given last year's .391 BABIP, but he should still provide plenty of value hitting at the top of a potent Washington offense.
Feb 25 2017Turner will hit leadoff Saturday in the Nationals' Grapefruit League opener against the Mets, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.Nats manager Dusty Baker made it clear that he hasn't decided on an Opening Day batting order, but Turner will most likely hit first or second during the regular season. The 23-year-old, who is 35-for-43 (81.4 percent) on the basepaths in 100 games to begin his big league career, figures to get frequent green lights in 2017 no matter what slot in the order he occupies.
Feb 23 2017Turner, who was summoned for jury duty Wednesday morning and missed a team workout, returned to camp that afternoon, Ben Cosman of MLB.com reports. He was informed his services weren't required, and ended up only missing a few hours of camp. Turner's services are very much required by the Nats as he looks to build on last season's impressive rookie campaign, so the club can consider themselves fortunate he didn't get dragged into a case that lasted for weeks.
Feb 22 2017Turner skipped Wednesday's team workout because he was summoned for jury duty, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Turner understands that even MLB superstars must fulfill their civic obligations. He shouldn't miss more than a few days as he returns to D.C. Turner, the Nationals' starting shortstop, is coming off a breakout year in which he finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
Dec 12 2016Turner will be the Nationals' starting shortstop in 2017 following the acquisition of Adam Eaton and the trade of Danny Espinosa to the Angels, The Washington Post reports. While Turner is a defensive downgrade at shortstop from the slick Espinosa, the Nats got a major upgrade in offense with the moves. Given that Turner hit .342 with a .937 OPS last season despite mostly playing out of position in center field, it's possible the move back to shortstop might even help him at the plate, in addition to adding to his 2B and OF eligibility in most fantasy formats.
Oct 2 2016Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo shot, two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Marlins. The fifth inning blast, his 13th home run in just 72 big league games this season, proved to be the difference in the game. Despite the late callup, Turner has put himself firmly in the conversation for NL Rookie of the Year with a .342/.367/.569 slash line, 53 runs scored and 32 steals.
Sep 27 2016Turner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and two steals Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.Turner has been an excellent source of runs and steals since taking over atop the Nationals order, with 51 and 29, respectively, in 68 games played. His free pass today helped improve the 23-year-old's walk rate to 3.3 percent, so patience is still something he's working on. Still, it's hard to complain given that the 2014 first-rounder has come out of nowhere with a .340/.362/.560 line.
Sep 25 2016Turner is out of Sunday's lineup against the Pirates, Dan Kolko of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network reports. After clinching the NL East on Saturday, Turner will have Sunday off. He has an impressive .336 batting average for the season, but has gone just 7-for-31 (.226) over the last seven games. With Turner out, Ben Revere will start in center field and hit leadoff.
Sep 21 2016Turner went 1-for-5 with a home run in the Nationals' 8-3 win over the Marlins on Wednesday.Turner had been hitless in the first two games of the series against the Marlins, a slump by his standards this year. Turner has done it all for the Nationals since being called up from Triple-A, hitting .342 with 12 home runs and 27 steals in 62 games for the Nationals.
Sep 17 2016Turner went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers, walk and stolen base in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Braves. The dynamic leadoff man continues to terrorize pitching around the majors and was the only member of the Nationals line to have an impact Saturday. He led off the game with a 374-foot solo shot to left and followed up with a 389-foot encore in the fifth to get Washington to within 3-2. Turner has five multi-hit outings in his last six games and 10 overall in what has been an outstanding September so far. He also has three homers in his last pair of contests and is now slashing .356/.377/.585 in 253 at-bats.
Sep 16 2016Turner went 4-for-5 with two RBI, a home run, two stolen bases and four runs scored.Turner has been the catalyst for a Nats offense that has come alive over the second half after a lackluster first. A player who can hit for power, run, steal bases and play defense will always will always find a good home in fantasy lineups.
Sep 12 2016Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases in Sunday's win over the Phillies. His extraordinary rookie campaign continues. Turner is now slashing .343/.365/.552 with eight homers, 30 RBI, 40 runs scored and 23 steals in 26 attempts in just 54 games with the Nats, all while getting on-the-job training in center field.
Sep 10 2016Turner went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and a game-winning solo shot in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Phillies. The dynamic leadoff man was the hero, blasting a ninth-inning solo shot off reliever Frank Herrmann to send the Nationals home winners. Turner had also extended the Washington lead to 4-1 in the seventh with a 409-foot two-run shot that plated Danny Espinosa. After an August where he slashed .357/.366/.571, Turner has now started September with multi-hit outings in five of his first eight games of the new month, including three homers and eight RBI over that span.
Sep 5 2016Turner went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, and three RBI in a Nationals 6-4 victory over the Braves on Monday.Turner's blast came with one runner on during the Nationals' five-run third inning that chased young Atlanta starter Ryan Weber. The strong performance comes on the heels of being named Rookie of the Month of August, and raised his batting line to .343/.362/.539. Turner continues to prove that he's much more than just a speed guy, with 22 extra-base hits in just 48 games on the season.
Sep 4 2016Turner was named the National League Rookie of the Month for August, The Washington Post reports. He set a franchise rookie record with 45 hits in the month en route to a .357/.366/.571 slash line with five home runs, 15 RBI, a mammoth 27 runs scored and 11 steals. Turner becomes the third National to win the award after Bryce Harper (who won it twice) and Ryan Church.
Aug 31 2016Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.Turner will get a rare day off, as the Nationals go with Michael Taylor in center field. Taylor will serve as the leadoff man against Phillies' left-hander Adam Morgan.
Aug 29 2016Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Rockies. The homer was his fifth in 177 big league at-bats this season after hitting just nine in 519 at-bats over the last two years at Triple-A. Turner's .345 batting average and 17 steals in 20 attempts are the main drivers of his fantasy value, but if he can supply double-digit home run potential as well he'll head into 2017 as one of the top options on the board at shortstop.
Aug 27 2016Turner went 2-for-6 with a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 extra-inning loss to the Rockies. The dynamic leadoff man continued to be a highly effective table-setter Saturday, getting on base twice and swiping his 17th bag of the season. Turner has now rattled off five consecutive multi-hit efforts, although he's only managed one extra-base hit, a double, over that span. However, the 23-year-old continues to put together a spectacular rookie campaign, slashing .341/.363/.532 over 173 at-bats.
Aug 23 2016Turner went 4-for-4 with a double, but was caught stealing twice in Tuesday's 8-1 loss at Baltimore. The rest of the Nationals offense was dormant in this one, so their leadoff man failed to accrue any other statistics despite the strong showing at the plate. Turner has been setting the table exceptionally well of late for the Orioles, and now has nine multi-hit efforts in August. The poor effort on the base paths is likely just an aberration, as he came in with 14 steals in 15 attempts.
Aug 20 2016Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Braves. The rookie is working on a nine-game hitting streak, during which he's hitting .405 (17-for-42) with 13 runs scored and five steals. Whether it's in center field or at second base or shortstop when Daniel Murphy or Danny Espinosa need a day off, Turner figures to remain a fixture atop the Nationals' order for the rest of the season.
Aug 19 2016Turner went 1-for-4 with a steal, an RBI and a run against the Braves on Thursday. He's now hit safely in eight consecutive games and has racked up five steals in that span. It'd be nice to see Turner develop his plate discipline a little more, as he's got an unimpressive 4:27 BB:K, but he's still been an electric presence at the top of the Nationals' lineup, and the speedster's just getting started on what should be an illustrious career.
Aug 17 2016Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a pair of runs scored in Wednesday's high-scoring loss in Colorado.Turner has been nothing short of exceptional since being called up to the majors for good on July 10th. The young shortstop is hitting .315, and has flashed blazing speed on a regular basis. The triple was amazing Turner's sixth of the season in just 30 games played, a 162-game pace of 32 that would be the most triples in a season since 1912. He also has 12 stolen bases for a 162-game pace of 65. In short, Turner has been a stellar leadoff man in his short time in the majors, and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Aug 15 2016Turner went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Braves. The rookie certainly enjoyed his first exposure to the Braves' pitching staff, going 8-for-15 in the three-game series with three extra-base hits including his third home run in August, six runs scored and two steals. Don't expect Turner to slow down any time soon, as the Nats head to Coors Field on Monday.
Aug 14 2016Turner put together his consecutive 3-for-5 effort in Saturday's 7-6 victory over the Braves, with a triple, solo homer and three runs overall. The dynamic leadoff man was at it again, legging out his fifth three-bagger of the season and blasting his third homer in the third inning off starter Rob Whalen. The 23-year-old now has five multi-hit efforts and all three of his homers in August, and continues to provide outstanding multi-category fantasy production during a month in which he's slashed .313/.327/.625 over 48 at-bats.
Aug 13 2016Turner went 3-for-5 with an RBI single, a pair of stolen bases and a run in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Braves. The dynamic leadoff man was a bright spot in the loss, getting on base often and swiping two bags in the process. Turner also drove in Ben Revere with a third-inning single that opened the Nationals' scoring on the night. The 23-year-old now has four multi-hit efforts in August, along with his first two homers of the season and six RBI.
Aug 6 2016Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, solo homer and two runs overall in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Giants. The dynamic leadoff man is now adding the long ball to his already-impressive repertoire, as he's homered in back-to-back contests. The 23-year-old has also hit safely in each of the first four games of August, and has multi-hit efforts in three of those contests. Turner also has five RBI over that span and has already racked up 10 extra-base hits as part of an impressive .321/.353/.543 line over 81 at-bats.
Jul 30 2016Turner went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Giants. The 23-year-old remains red-hot, with Saturday's effort marking his fourth multi-hit outing in the last five starts. The speedy Turner also has four stolen bases over that span, and continues to be a multi-category threat in all fantasy formats thanks to his blazing speed.
Jul 29 2016Turner is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants, MASN's Dan Kolko reports. This is a little surprising, as Turner has provided a spark atop the Nationals' order recently with eight hits and three steals in his last four games, but it seems manager Dusty Baker is intent on keeping Ben Revere involved. Turner still seems like the favorite for playing time in center field moving forward.
Jul 29 2016Turner once again hit leadoff and played center field during Thursday's win over the Giants, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. He's now started three straight games in center and over Turner's last four games he's reached base 10 times (eight hits and two walks) while stealing three bases, scoring four runs and pushing his slash line on the season up to .333/.382/.510, albeit in just 51 at-bats. As long as the converted shortstop doesn't make any glaring defensive miscues in the outfield, Nats manager Dusty Baker will likely keep writing the rookie's name on his lineup card.
Jul 27 2016Turner got the start in center field Tuesday and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and his fifth stolen base of the season. The Nationals, who have lost six of their last eight games, are looking for someone to spark their offense and the speedy Turner might just fit the bill. All five of his steals have come in his last seven games, although he's hitting just .250 (8-for-32) during that stretch. With Ryan Zimmerman off the DL and Daniel Murphy shifted back to second base, Turner's best route to playing time will likely continue to be in center at the expense of the struggling Ben Revere.
Jul 27 2016Turner went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in Wednesday's game against the Indians.Washington's been searching for production from the leadoff spot, and perhaps the club has found it with Turner. Hitting atop the lineup over the last three games, the 23-year-old sophomore is 6-for-13 with two doubles, one triple, three RBI, three runs and two stolen bases. Turner played the outfield for the second straight day in this one, but manager Dusty Baker wouldn't commit to playing Turner out there once the team returns to NL parks and loses the DH. If Turner does in fact earn an everyday spot, he's worth a pickup in most formats, especially if Baker inserts him in the leadoff spot.
Jul 26 2016Turner will make his first career start in center field on Tuesday, Dan Kolko of MASN reports. It was reported on Monday that Turner could be making a transition to center field with the return of Ryan Zimmerman from the disabled list. Turner will lead off for the Nationals on Tuesday and will be accompanied in the outfield by Ben Revere in left and Bryce Harper in right. Jayson Werth will serve as the designated hitter as Washington is on the road facing Cleveland in interleague play. It will be interesting to see what Dusty Baker does with the lineup when he doesn't have the luxury of a DH this weekend.
Jul 25 2016Turner could transition to center field when Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) returns Tuesday, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Chase Hughes reports. The Nationals have been open about the fact that Turner's days of being a regular in the infield will come to an end once Zimmerman returns, but he has worked a little in center field in the minors, and it is currently an area of need for the Nationals. Turner is hitting .282 with four steals and five runs in 10 MLB games this season and should already be owned in all formats. If he transitions to the outfield that would be a boon for his owners, otherwise he'll serve as backup infielder and pinch runner.
Jul 22 2016Turner will play second base and hit seventh as the Nationals host the Padres on Friday, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.Turner will look to extend his five-game hitting streak tonight as the Nationals face Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo. In his short time with the Nationals, Turner is hitting .290/.313/.452 with three stolen bases in 31 at-bats. With Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) and Stephen Drew (illness) expected to return soon, Turner must continue to play well if he wants to remain on the Nationals roster.
Jul 21 2016Turner went 1-for-4 against the Dodgers on Wednesday with a triple, an RBI and a run -- which he scored by stealing home.He became just the third National in franchise history to steal home, reacting to the Dodgers catching Danny Espinosa between first and second by taking off from third and sliding in ahead of the tag. Turner's looked good in his first seven MLB games of the year, knocking out eight hits in 26 at-bats (.308) with a couple steals. He's also tripled in consecutive games.
Jul 20 2016Turner got the start at second base and hit leadoff in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers, going 1-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI.With both Anthony Rendon and Stephen Drew sidelined due to a flu bug, Turner is finally getting a chance at regular at-bats and has collected four hits in his last three games. He'll likely return to the bench once the roster gets healthier in a couple of days, however.
Jul 17 2016Turner got the start at second base Sunday, going 2-for-7 with his first stolen base of the season in an 18-inning loss to the Pirates. He showed some jitters in extra innings, bobbling a potential double-play ball and then getting thrown out at second base trying to stretch a single in the 17th, but Turner also showed flashes of being the dynamic leadoff hitter his minor league performance suggests he can be. He only got into the lineup with Daniel Murphy (hamstring) unavailable and Anthony Rendon (illness) a late scratch, though, so it seems clear manager Dusty Baker doesn't view Turner as quite ready for regular duty.
Jul 17 2016Turner, a late addition to Sunday's lineup, will bat leadoff in the series finale against the Pirates, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Turner was originally scheduled to get the day off Sunday, but after fellow infielder Anthony Rendon was scratched due to flu-like symptoms, he was inserted into the order. Furthermore, rather than just add him to the bottom, manager Dusty Baker will use him atop the order, a place he's been used twice since getting called up. So far this season, the 23-year-old has collected four hits in 11 at-bats.
Jul 10 2016Turner is leading off and playing second base for the Nats on Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Daniel Murphy is sliding over to play first base to open up the keystone for Turner, whose assignment to the leadoff spot is likely the byproduct of Ben Revere getting the day off.
Jul 9 2016Turner is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets. The Nationals will keep the same lineup that they've used for the past two games Saturday, meaning Turner will spend another game on the bench. That said, MASN's Mark Zuckerman notes that Turner could draw into the lineup at second base Sunday with the Nationals facing a left-hander, which would result in Daniel Murphy sliding over to first base and Clint Robinson getting the day off.
Jul 8 2016Turner will apparently be called up by the Nationals on Friday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.Manager Dusty Baker said the Nationals would make a roster move Friday, and Turner is reportedly on his way to New York, so it appears he will be the player getting the call. It's not immediately apparent where Turner will fit in the Nationals' lineup, or if he will remain with the team after the All-Star break, but he has spent time in center field of late, so he could be used as a super-utility player if he stays with the big league club for good. Turner will have eligibility at shortstop in most leagues, so it doesn't necessarily matter if he's not playing there this year, as long as he is getting steady at-bats. He brings a plus-plus hit tool and plus speed to the table, and would be worth an add in almost all formats if it starts to look like he'll get pretty regular playing time.
Jul 8 2016Turner was recalled by the Nationals on Friday.Turner, the Nationals' top infield prospect, will join the big club for the second time this season. There isn't an immediate opening for him with the Nationals at shortstop -- or in center field, for that matter -- but the team did place Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list Friday in a corresponding move, so there may be times where Daniel Murphy and Danny Espinosa both shift to the right and allow Turner to see some starts at the shortstop position.
Jun 6 2016Turner was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday following Ryan Zimmerman's reinstatement from the paternity list, CSN Mid-Atlantic reports. The young infielder started just one game over the weekend while Zimmerman was away from the team. Turner's time will come, but if the Nats are waiting for his Super-2 status to elapse, he may not rejoin the big league roster on a permanent basis for another few weeks yet.
Jun 3 2016Turner is in the lineup Friday against the Reds, starting at second base and batting second in the order. The highly-touted prospect was recalled earlier Friday with Ryan Zimmerman going on the paternity list and manager Dusty Baker wasted no time getting Turner into the mix. He'll take over at second base while Daniel Murphy slides over to first base Friday. Turner can not only hit for average, given his .310 mark at Triple-A, but he's a threat on the base paths as well with 17 steals on 17 attempts at Syracuse this season.
Jun 3 2016Turner went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Reds. The dynamic rookie made quite a splash in his 2016 debut, an extension of the success he'd been experiencing at the Triple-A level this season. Turner's promotion to the big league club has been termed as strictly temporary by manager Dusty Baker, but the 22-year-old will certainly attempt to make an impression during whatever stretch of time he does have at his disposal.
Jun 3 2016Manager Dusty Baker said Friday that Turner's promotion "is a weekend thing," James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. The Nats brought up the heralded prospect Friday with Ryan Zimmerman going on paternity leave, and there has been speculation Turner could stick long term now that the organization has gained an extra year of control. Baker indicated Turner will go back to Triple-A once Zimmerman returns, although it shouldn't be long be long before Turner's up for good, and he projects as a prolific source of speed once in a regular role. Turner is starting at second base and batting second Friday with Daniel Murphy at first base.
Jun 3 2016Turner was recalled from Triple-A on Friday, MASN's Mark Zuckerman reports. It is unclear how long Turner will be up with the big league club, as this was the corresponding move to Ryan Zimmerman being placed on paternity leave. However, Turner should be owned in most formats, as the Nationals have waited long enough to gain an extra year of control even if they keep him up for the rest of the season, factoring in his time on the active roster in 2015. Danny Espinosa sports a .637 OPS, and while he has offered strong defense at shortstop, Turner offers a pretty clear overall upgrade at this point. The 13th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Turner has really impressed at every stop, and that has continued this year at Triple-A. He is slashing .310/.376/.472 with three homers and is a perfect 17-for-17 on stolen-base attempts.
Jun 2 2016Turner, who is not in the lineup at Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, is a candidate to be called up by the Nationals in the coming days, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.According to Wagner, Ryan Zimmerman may be placed on the paternity list in the near future, which would open a roster spot for the Nationals to promote a top minor leaguer. Turner, a former first round selection in 2014, has been on a torrid pace at Triple-A Syracuse this season, slashing .310/.476/.472 with 13 doubles and five triples over 197 at-bats. The young shortstop should be on fantasy owners' watch lists given his potential fit with the Nationals in addition to the fact that he's a Top-10 prospect in all of baseball. There is nothing definite at this point regarding Turner being called up, but the fact that he was out of the lineup at Syracuse on Thursday could mean that there's something brewing.
Jun 2 2016Turner will join the Nationals in Cincinnati on Friday for their series against the Reds, William Ladson of MLB.com reports.Rumors surfaced Thursday about a potential promotion for Turner after he was left off the lineup card at Triple-A Syracuse. Ladson reports that Ryan Zimmerman will likely be placed on the paternity list Friday, which would open up a spot on the roster for Turner. However, given that a player can only be on the paternity list for up to three games, this could potentially be an abbreviated debut for Turner. Once the move is made official, Turner's role with the team moving forward should come into focus. The hyper-talented prospect has 21 extra-base hits in 197 at-bats at Triple-A this season.
May 4 2016Turner is hitting .309/.393/.443 with two homers, 11 RBI, and a 10-for-10 mark as a basestealer at Triple-A Syracuse this season.Meanwhile, Danny Espinosa is mired in a month-long slump. While the Nationals currently sit atop the National League East, it may not be long before they opt to make Turner their starting shortstop, which will likely push Espinosa into a utility role going forward.
Jun 14 2015Turner acquired by the Nationals on Sunday, completing a three-team deal dating back to Dec. 18.Turner, who is batting .322 with five homers and 11 steals for Double-A San Antonio, will be assigned to Double-A Harrisburg for his first game with his new organization. The acquisition will officially complete the three-team deal that landed outfielder Steven Souza in Tampa Bay this offseason. The 21-year-old Turner has been impressive so far, but is currently blocked by Ian Desmond at the Major League level. He could get a look as a September call-up, however.
May 27 2015Turner is hitting .344/.422/.522 with five home runs and nine steals in 181 plate appearances with Double-A San Antonio.Turner is riding a 12-game hitting streak that has helped boost his batting average to second among active players in the Texas League. It is hard to say how much luck has gone into his .344 average, as his .408 BABIP obviously raises a red flag, but Turner has plus-plus speed and hits everything hard, so it may not be too inflated. While he continues to play for the Padres' affiliate at Double-A for the time being, Turner will be allowed to join the Nationals' organization on June 13, completing a trade that was agreed to this offseason.
Apr 7 2015Turner will start the season at Double-A San Antonio, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reports.Turner is widely believed to be the player to be named later in the three-team deal that sent Wil Myers to the Padres in December. He can't officially join the Nationals organization until June 13, so for now he will be on the Padres' Double-A affiliate in San Antonio.
Mar 9 2015Turner was reassigned to the Padres' minor league camp on Monday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.Turner initially reported to San Diego's big league camp, but will now be at mini-camp before position players report to minor league spring training next week. All signs point to the 21-year-old joining the Nationals when he is eligible to do so given that he is reportedly the player to be named later in the three-team deal that netted the Padres outfielder Wil Myers. Since Turner can't officially be traded until June 13, he will likely start the season with High-A Lake Elsinore in the Padres' farm system.
Dec 18 2014Turner could theoretically join the Nationals as a loaned player, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America speculates.Virtually no one benefits from Turner staying with the Padres until June. The Padres waste a spot on a minor league roster they could give to one of their own prospects, the Nationals don't get access to one of their top players, and Turner's development could stagnate if San Diego management doesn't help him. This is pure speculation, but a loan would probably be best for everyone if possible.
Dec 17 2014Turner has been traded to the Nationals as part of the three-team, 11-player deal involving Wil Myers, Jeff Passan reports.Turner won't join the Nationals until next June because he was drafted in 2014, so he'll be a PTBNL until then. While that could be awkward, Turner is still probably the best prospect involved in this deal. The NC State product scorched Single-A ball in his first professional year, hitting .369/.447/.529 in 46 games with Fort Wayne. Long term, he projects to offer decent batting average and good stolen base numbers at shortstop as a major leaguer.
Jun 5 2014The Padres have selected Turner with the 13th overall pick of the 2014 first-year player draft.A teammate of highly coveted lefty Carlos Rodon, Turner closed out a three-year career at North Carolina State with a .342/.435/.507 line and 113 stolen bases in 127 attempts over 173 games despite an ankle injury that limited his impact as a basestealer during his sophomore campaign. Speed is easily Turner's best tool and he's an 80-grade runner, while his bat and plate discipline should be good enough for him to develop into a leadoff hitter at the big league level down the road. Defensively, Turner shifted to shortstop after the 2013 season for the Wolfpack, and it's believed that he has the footwork necessary to stick at short as he advances, and the arm strength necessary to handle third base if the Padres decide he's a better fit there.
