The second baseman is clearly taking advantage of this weekend's series in Colorado, especially since he's had momentum all month -- he's batting .371 (26-for-70) with 10 extra-base hits over 18 games in June. Marte is now batting .311 on the year, the first time he's been over .300 since May 5. He's added a 1.007 OPS, 13 home runs, 30 RBI, 43 runs scored, 11 doubles and two stolen bases over 50 games. |

Jun 15 2025 | Marte went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning produced the first of five runs, giving Arizona a comeback victory. The hit also extended the second baseman's on-base streak to 12 contests, during which Marte has gone 15-for-43 (.349) with 11 walks, four home runs, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. He's slashing .295/.418/.564 with 12 home runs and 23 RBI over 44 games on the season. |

The 31-year-old went deep three times in the series against Atlanta and has now hit safely in 14 of his past 15 games. On the season, he's slashing .299/.422/.606 with 11 home runs, 19 RBI, 30 runs and two stolen bases across 154 plate appearances. |
Jun 4 2025 | Marte went 3-for-3 with two walks, two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-3 win over Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Long before Corbin Carroll's three-run blast in the ninth inning put the game away, Marte's homers in his first two plate appearances set up Arizona for the win. His two-run homer in the third was the game-winning hit and moved him ahead of Steve Finley on the Diamondbacks' all-time RBI list. He now has 481 career RBI as a D-back, which ranks third in franchise history. Marte is in the midst of a blistering 15-game stretch, during which he's slashed .345/.465/.741 with seven home runs, 11 RBI, two steals and 15 runs scored. |

May 30 2025 | Marte (illness) will start at second base and bat second Friday against the Nationals, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte sat out Arizona's last two games while fighting off an illness, but he seems to be feeling better ahead of Friday's contest. The 31-year-old will look to remain scorching hot during his return after compiling a nine-game hitting streak before getting sick. |
May 28 2025 | Marte (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The second baseman was held out of the starting nine Tuesday due to flu-like symptoms and will sit Wednesday for a second consecutive game. Arizona has a team day off Thursday, which should give Marte enough time to get healthy for Friday's series opener against Washington. Jordan Lawlar is receiving another start at the keystone in Wednesday's series finale. |
May 27 2025 | Marte isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus Pittsburgh due to an illness, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is slashing .263/.366/.600 with eight homers, 12 RBI and 17 runs scored since the start of May, but he'll have to miss Tuesday's contest while he battles the flu. Jordan Lawlar will get the nod at the keystone instead and could continue to start at second if Marte has to miss any additional games. |
May 24 2025 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 loss to St. Louis. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte gave Arizona an early lead with a fourth-inning home run. It was the second straight game with a homer for Marte, who has five long balls over the last eight games. He's gone deep eight times in 27 contests this season, with seven of those being solo shots. |
May 22 2025 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte whacked a no-doubter into the right-field stands at Dodger Stadium to give Arizona the lead in the fourth inning. It was his second home run in four games. Marte missed nearly a month with a hamstring injury, and there were timing issues initially upon his return in early May. However, the second baseman has rediscovered his swing, posting a .277/.393/.745 line with seven home runs and 10 RBI over the last 13 contests. |
May 18 2025 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during Sunday's 1-0 win over the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte accounted for two of the seven combined hits in Sunday's game and provided the only run by taking Chase Dollander yard in the first inning. The long ball was Marte's sixth of the season, and his third in the last four games. During that four-game stretch, Marte is 6-for-16 (.375) with five RBI and six runs scored. |
May 17 2025 | Marte went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was in Friday's starting lineup after he was pulled from Wednesday's game with stiffness in his hip. Thursday's off day allowed for healing, and Marte showed the hip wasn't an issue by stealing his first base of the season. |
May 16 2025 | Marte (hip) is starting at second base and batting in the leadoff spot against the Rockies on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was lifted from Wednesday's win against the Giants due to stiffness in his hip, but the 31-year-old second baseman has been cleared to play in Friday's series opener. Marte is slashing .262/.377/.554 with five home runs and eight RBI over 77 plate appearances this season. |
May 15 2025 | Marte was removed from Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Giants due to stiffness in his hip, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The removal was preventative, and both the player and manager Torey Lovullo expect Marte to be in the lineup Friday following Thursday's off-day. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte moved around the bases pretty easily on a pair of home runs early in the game but was eventually removed from the game in the seventh inning. This was the first time he played a day game following a night game since returning from a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Jordan Lawlar. Marte is still in a phase where his playing time is being managed, meaning there are planned days off. |
May 14 2025 | Marte went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After belting a solo shot off Jordan Hicks in the first inning, Marte tagged Hayden Birdsong for a two-run blast in the fourth as he bookended the scoring for the Diamondbacks. Marte has two multi-homer performances in the last seven games and five long balls in total over that stretch, but he's otherwise struggled to find his rhythm since coming off the IL at the beginning of the month, going 8-for-39 (.205) through 12 games in May. |
May 11 2025 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the first three games of the series versus Los Angeles and went 4-for-10 with a double and three home runs, but he'll take a seat for Sunday's finale. Tim Tawa will start at the keystone and bat eighth against righty Tony Gonsolin. |
May 9 2025 | Marte went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs, two walks and three total runs scored in Friday's 14-11 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went yard in the first and eighth innings. All three of his homers this season have come over the last two games, and it looks like he's starting to settle back in after missing a month to a hamstring injury. The second baseman is batting .292 with four RBI, 11 runs scored, three doubles and no stolen bases over 59 plate appearances. It wouldn't be surprising to see him run less given the hamstring concern, but he should continue to offer solid production in the other counting stats while occupying a near-everyday role. |
May 8 2025 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte hit his first homer of the season, stretching Arizona's lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning. The second baseman missed nearly a month due to a hamstring issue, so he's likely still working on his timing at the plate. Through 14 contests, he's batting .267 with a .789 OPS, two RBI, eight runs scored and no stolen bases over 54 plate appearances. Marte should handle a starting role most of the time, but Tim Tawa has gotten some extra looks at the keystone while Marte gets regular rest to avoid aggravating his hamstring, which has been a recurring concern in his career. |
May 7 2025 | Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tim Tawa will draw the start at second base Wednesday while Marte gets some rest for the day game after a night game. Since making his return from the injured list Friday after missing nearly a month due to a strained left hamstring, Marte has started in four of the Diamondbacks' ensuing six games and has gone 2-for-15 with two walks and a run. |
May 4 2025 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned from the injured list Friday and started at second base the past two days, going 1-for-7 with a walk. The 31-year-old hasn't reported any setbacks following his one-month stay on the IL due to a hamstring strain, so his absence Sunday is most likely a pre-planned rest day. Tim Tawa will draw the start at second base in his stead. |
May 3 2025 | Marte went 1-for-4 in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was activated off the 10-day injured earlier in the day and was in the lineup at second base and leading off against a left-hander. The initial plan for Marte, who is coming off a hamstring injury, is to see time in the field and at designated hitter, but at either spot he should bat first or second in the order. |
May 2 2025 | The Diamondbacks activated Marte (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back onto the active roster after missing nearly a month of action with a strained left hamstring. The 31-year-old had slashed .346/.469/.462 in his first eight contests before getting hurt. |
Apr 15 2025 | Marte (hamstring) will take live batting practice Tuesday, Jose M. Romero of AZCentral.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is ramping up activities, but the big test will come when he's cleared to run, and it's uncertain when that might happen. The Diamondbacks hope the second baseman is ready to return by late April or early May. |
Apr 12 2025 | Marte (hamstring) began taking groundballs and swings in a batting cage Friday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As Marte begins baseball activities, his timeline has become more clear. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo estimated a return for the final week of April or the first week of May. That provides much more definition than the "series of weeks" comment Lovullo offered up earlier this week. While Marte works his way back, Tim Tawa and Garrett Hampson will share second base. |
Apr 9 2025 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Marte will miss a "series of weeks" with a left hamstring strain, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. "There's no timeline on it," Lovullo said while referring to the injury as a Grade 1 strain. "We just gotta let him heal, let him recover and once we get to that point, we'll start to initiate some baseball activities." | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte sustained the injury last Friday during the Diamondbacks' recent road trip and underwent an MRI when the club returned to Arizona on Monday. His absence leaves a hole in the Arizona lineup, which is being filled defensively by Tim Tawa and Garrett Hampson for now. Geraldo Perdomo has taken over Marte's spot in the order, serving as the leadoff batter against lefties and batting second against right-handers. |
Apr 5 2025 | The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte made an early exit from Friday's contest after hurting himself running to second base on a first-inning double, and he'll now be kept on the sideline until at least April 15. Tim Tawa was recalled from Triple-A Reno to fill the open roster spot, though Garrett Hampson will likely be the one seeing more time at second base until Marte returns. |
Apr 4 2025 | Marte was pulled from Friday's game against Washington due to a strained left hamstring. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte limped off the field Friday after injuring himself running to second base on a double in the first inning. His diagnosis didn't come with a return timeline, though there's a chance the 31-year-old infielder will end up spending time on the injured list. If that ends up being the case, Garrett Hampson would be the favorite to take over as the Diamondbacks' regular second baseman. |
Apr 3 2025 | Marte is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the first day off this season for Marte, who agreed to a contract extension with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Garrett Hampson will start at second base and bat eighth while Marte gets a breather. |
Apr 2 2025 | The Diamondbacks signed Marte to a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension Wednesday that includes a player option for the 2032 season, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was already under contract through 2027 with a club option for 2028, but this new deal adds additional years and $64 million in new money, $46 million of which is deferred. The 31-year-old second baseman slashed .292/.372/.560 with 36 home runs and 95 RBI for the Diamondbacks last season, finishing third in National League MVP voting. |
Mar 29 2025 | Marte batted second and went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 8-1 win over the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who logged a second straight two-hit game to start the season, was dropped from leadoff Thursday to second in the order, as he and Corbin Carroll switched places against right-hander Jameson Taillon. Marte is expected to lead off against lefties, as was the case Thursday, and he is 4-for-10 with two doubles and three runs scored to begin the new season. |
Mar 7 2025 | Marte batted leadoff and went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's spring game against Seattle. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Marte and Corbin Carroll (back) split leadoff duties in 2024, Marte has batted first in all nine of his Cactus League games so far this spring, including the times when both he and Carroll have played. Marte was the leadoff hitter for 58 games in 2024 and slashed .314/.384/.572 with 16 home runs and 43 RBI in those contests. |
Sep 29 2024 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 11-2 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte tagged Martin Perez for a two-run home run in the fourth inning, marking the second baseman's 36th long ball of the campaign. In September, Marte is 15-for-63 (.238) with five home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. On the year, he holds a .932 OPS. |
Sep 25 2024 | Marte started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double in Tuesday's 11-0 loss to the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was held out of Monday's starting lineup, as manager Torey Lovullo indicated the second baseman had been grinding and was in the "red zone." With four games left in the regular season and a playoff spot to be won, Marte is expected to be in the starting lineup every day. |
Sep 24 2024 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Monday the decision to hold Marte out of that day's starting lineup was "preventative" and described the second baseman as being in the "red zone," Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. "The left leg, it probably wasn't 100% when he came back, if you guys studied the swings enough, you could recognize he was protecting that space," the manager said. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Lovullo added that Marte was available off the bench, and the infielder entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and finished the game at second base. The Diamondbacks lost to the Giants and are now one-and-a-half games ahead of Atlanta for the final wild card spot with five games left (six for Atlanta). Reading between the lines of Lovullo's comments, Monday's lighter-than-normal effort sets up Marte to finish out the season as an everyday lineup presence. |
Sep 23 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will hit the bench for the third time since he was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Sept. 6 after missing three weeks with an ankle sprain. Kevin Newman will step in at second base in place of Marte, who is slashing .271/.407/.625 with five home runs, one stolen base, 12 RBI and nine runs across 14 games in September. |
Sep 21 2024 | Marte went 2-for-2 with three walks, a home run, a stolen base, two total runs and two total RBI in a 5-0 victory against the Brewers on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte reached base in each of his first four plate appearances, then capped his performance with a two-run blast in the ninth inning. It was the second straight game with a home run for the second baseman, and he's reached base safely in nine of his 10 plate appearances during the two-game span. With two RBI Saturday, Marte tied his career-best mark of 92 in a season, and he's already established a new high with 34 home runs on the campaign. |
Sep 20 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has scuffled (.184/.295/.368) in the 11 games since coming off the injured list earlier this month, but he has knocked in seven runs during that span. He's up to 88 RBI for the season, four shy of his career-best posted in 2019. |
Sep 17 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the previous six games and will receive a maintenance day after going 6-for-22 with a double and two homers during that stretch. Luis Guillorme is receiving a start at second base while batting eighth. |
Sep 16 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and three strikeouts in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte got the scoring started Monday when he took Antonio Senzatela deep in the first inning. The 32 home runs have tied Marte's career high he set during the 2019 season. The 30-year-old seems to be finding his power stroke again since returning from an ankle injury, as he now has two homers and six RBI over his last five games. Overall, Marte is slashing .292/.366/.553 with 87 RBI in 124 games this season. |
Sep 12 2024 | Marte started at second base and went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 14-4 win over Texas. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first game in the field since returning from an ankle injury last week. He served as the designated hitter his first three games back and was hitless over 11 at-bats before breaking out Wednesday. He led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and scored Arizona's first run, then his three-run homer in the fourth upped the Diamondbacks' lead to 8-2. Marte has 31 home runs -- one shy of the career high he set in 2019 -- and 85 RBI through 120 games. |
Sep 8 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went 0-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts as the designated hitter the past two games after being reinstated from the injured list Friday, and he'll receive a day off for the series finale in Houston. Luis Guillorme is starting at second base while Joc Pederson is back at designated hitter Sunday. |
Sep 7 2024 | Marte served as the designated hitter, batted leadoff and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 8-0 loss to the Astros. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday, resumed his role as the team's leadoff batter against a lefty, though he didn't play the field. He missed two and a half weeks due to an ankle sprain and could be brought back at a measured pace before returning to second base. |
Sep 6 2024 | The Diamondbacks reinstated Marte (ankle) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old landed on the injured list in mid-August due to an ankle sprain, but he's back with the Diamondbacks after a two-and-a-half-week absence. Marte has a .298/.370/.560 slash line with 30 homers through 116 games this season, and his return to the lineup will provide a major boost to Arizona's offense for the playoff push. |
Sep 2 2024 | Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Marte (ankle) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during the team's upcoming road trip, which begins Tuesday in San Francisco and ends Sunday in Houston, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has been ramping up workouts in recent days and appears to be making significant progress. The second baseman has been sidelined since Aug. 19 due to an ankle sprain but looks to be on track for activation either mid-week or during the weekend. |
Aug 27 2024 | Marte (ankle) began hitting in a batting cage Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It appears to be the first time Marte has swung a bat since landing on the injured list Aug. 19 with an ankle sprain. Manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that the 30-year-old infielder is no longer receiving treatment, though it remains unclear how far away he is from a return. |
Aug 24 2024 | Marte (ankle) is expected to begin running on a pool treadmill soon, MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear when the pool work will begin, or if Marte can return after a minimum stay on the IL. Marte, who injured his left ankle Aug. 10, had a couple of failed attempts to get back on the field, but the Diamondbacks finally added him to the 10-day injured list Aug. 19. The team decided Marte simply needed rest. |
Aug 19 2024 | The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Monday with a sprained left ankle. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte initially injured the ankle more than a week ago and has been in and out of the lineup since then. He aggravated the injury during a pinch-hit appearance Sunday versus the Rays and the Diamondbacks have finally decided to make a roster move with the 30-year-old. No imaging is planned for Marte, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, and it sounds like he should have a good shot to return on Aug. 29 when his 10 days are up.Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander should fill in at second base while Marte is sidelined. |
Aug 18 2024 | Marte was removed from Sunday's game against the Rays after he appeared to aggravate his left ankle sprain during a pinch-hit appearance, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old returned to the lineup Saturday as the designated hitter after he sat out the previous three games due to an ankle sprain, but he quickly aggravated the injury after coming off the bench late in Sunday's contest. The severity of the injury this time around is unclear, but Marte needed to be helped off the field and could require a trip to the injured list. |
Aug 17 2024 | Marte (ankle) is serving as the designated hitter and batting in the leadoff spot for Saturday's game against the Rays, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has sat out Arizona's last three games after being diagnosed with a low-grade ankle sprain Tuesday. He'll return to the lineup Saturday and avoid fielding duties as he plays DH while Kevin Newman starts at second base. |
Aug 16 2024 | Marte (ankle) is absent from the starting nine for Friday's game against the Rays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was diagnosed with a low-grade ankle sprain Tuesday and will spend Friday's series opener on the bench. The second baseman hasn't started and finished a game since Aug. 8 but the Diamondbacks have already indicated he won't require an IL stint. Blaze Alexander will bat ninth and play the keystone Friday. Per Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona, Marte said Friday that he's feeling better and could be in the lineup Saturday. |
Aug 14 2024 | Marte (ankle) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Rockies, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte aggravated a low-grade left ankle sprain in Monday's 5-4 win and will now miss out on a second straight start against Colorado. He is expected to avoid the injured list, and with a team off day coming Thursday, it's possible Marte will be ready to play this weekend at Tampa Bay. Blaze Alexander was called up from Triple-A Reno and will start at second base Wednesday as the Diamondbacks look to complete a sweep. |

It remains unknown how many more games the 30-year-old will need to sit out before his ankle returns to 100 percent, but the Diamondbacks' decision to keep him on the active roster is an encouraging sign. |
Aug 12 2024 | Marte will undergo an MRI on his left ankle Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte attempted to give it a go Monday against the Rockies but aggravated his left ankle injury in his first at-bat of the game and was forced to depart. A timeline for the second baseman's return should come into focus once the team's medical staff reviews his scans. |

Aug 11 2024 | Marte (ankle) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The second baseman exited Saturday's contest due to a left ankle contusion and said after the game he'll likely need a day off to recover, so it's no surprise he's on the bench Sunday. Marte also indicated he expects to rejoin the starting nine Monday versus the Rockies, so this should be a brief absence for the 30-year-old. Kevin Newman is manning the keystone Sunday for Arizona. |
Aug 10 2024 | Marte (ankle) will likely miss Sunday's game against the Phillies but expects to play Monday against Colorado, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After being slid into by Garrett Stubbs on Saturday and folding awkwardly, Marte expects to miss only one game with what's being labeled a bruised left ankle. The Diamondbacks determined that X-rays were unnecessary, a very positive sign for the second baseman. While he'll get a day off Sunday, Marte should be back in action Monday -- a favorable outcome considering he appeared to be in significant pain following the collision. |
Aug 9 2024 | Marte is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will begin Friday's contest in the dugout after going 0-for-4 with one walk, one run scored and three strikeouts in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Philadelphia. Kevin Newman will start at second base and bat ninth against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler. |
Aug 5 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-6 win against the Guardians. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte took Logan Allen deep in the very first pitch of the game. It was Marte's fifth leadoff homer this season, which trails only Kyle Schwarber and Gunnar Henderson for most this season. Marte has been on a tear over his last 13 games with nine home runs and 21 RBI in that span. The 30-year-old is putting together another stellar campaign, hitting .300/.366/.557 with 28 home runs and 78 RBI through 108 games. |

The two homers were part of a recent power surge from Marte, who is 16-for-36 with seven home runs and 17 RBI over the last 10 games. The second baseman is up to 26 homers for the season, six shy of the career-best 32 he hit in 2019. |
Jul 31 2024 | Marte went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 17-0 win over Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Like the summer months in Arizona, Marte's bat is sizzling with multiple hits in 10 of his last 14 starts. He's gone 24-for-53 (.453) with seven home runs during that run. The hot bat stretches further back to the beginning of June; Marte is slashing .359/.439/.653 with 14 homers and 43 RBI over 47 games since June 2. |

In the month of July, the second baseman is batting .338 with five homers, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored. |

During that sample, he's hitting .417 (15-for-36) with 10 RBI and two stolen bases. The second baseman continues to be an engine for the Diamondbacks with a .294/.364/.521 slash line, 61 RBI, 69 runs scored, six stolen bases, 19 doubles and two triples through 97 contests overall. |
Jul 13 2024 | Marte went 2-for-3 with two walks, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 12-1 win over the Blue Jays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte earned his third multi-hit effort in his last four games. The second baseman is batting .297 (11-for-37) with three steals over 10 games in July as he continues to provide well-rounded offense in the top-third of the order. Overall, Marte has 18 home runs, six steals, 53 RBI, 63 runs scored and a .288/.359/.506 slash line across 404 plate appearances this season. |

Jul 8 2024 | Marte (back) will start at second base and bat second in Monday's game against Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had to depart a game this past Friday with a back issue and then sat out the next two contests. However, he's feeling well enough to give it a go in the series opener versus Atlanta. |
Jul 7 2024 | Marte (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was removed from Friday's contest due to lower-back tightness and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive game. The 30-year-old was reportedly available off the bench Saturday but didn't see the field, so he'll presumably be available again Sunday. Kevin Newman is manning the keystone in place of Marte. |
Jul 6 2024 | Marte (back) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres but could be available off the bench, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was removed from Friday's contest with lower back tightness and the D-Backs will keep him out of the starting lineup Saturday. However, manager Torey Lovullo said that Marte could be available off the bench if needed. Marte should be considered day-to-day. |
Jul 5 2024 | Marte exited Friday's game against the Padres due to lower-back tightness, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had gone 0-for-4 during Friday's loss before Randal Grichuk pinch hit for him in the ninth inning, and manager Torey Lovullo confirmed after the game that Marte's removal was due to a lingering back issue that has been bothering him for a while. He won't require any imaging, however, and the team is viewing him as day-to-day. |
Jun 29 2024 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and one RBI in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Athletics. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, which was ultimately enough offense for Arizona to win. He's been good over the latter half of June, going 16-for-45 (.356) with seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI over his last 12 contests. Marte is at a .290/.352/.525 slash line with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, 55 runs scored, three stolen bases, 19 doubles and two triples across 80 games this year. |
Jun 25 2024 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Twins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's homer opened the scoring in the first inning and he added a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to put the Diamondbacks ahead for good. The second baseman had gone just 2-for-16 over his previous four contests before this multi-hit effort. He's been a big contributor throughout the campaign with a .280/.340/.507 slash line, 16 homers, 46 RBI, 51 runs scored and three stolen bases across 76 games. |
Jun 23 2024 | Marte started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 12-1 loss to Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte hadn't played the field since Wednesday; he served as the designated hitter Thursday then was held out of the starting lineup Friday. All appears to be fine for Marte, who was merely given a two-game respite from playing the field. |
Jun 21 2024 | Marte is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte served as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter Thursday and is now out of their lineup altogether, although there's no indication at this point that this is anything other than a routine day off. Blaze Alexander is handling second base Friday. |
Jun 19 2024 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 5-0 win over Washington. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte got it started early with a two-run home run in the first inning. He later plated a run on a sacrifice fly. While he's had a good season to date -- one that's generating All-Star buzz from Arizona Sports -- Marte can be even more productive if Corbin Carroll's bat stays hot ahead of him in the lineup. Carroll's batting .340 over the last 12 games, and Marte has driven in 10 runs during that stretch. For the season, Marte has an .863 OPS, 15 home runs, 42 RBI, three steals and 50 runs scored. |
Jun 13 2024 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was his 14th homer in 66 games. The second baseman is in the midst of a hot streak, going 14-for-32 (.438) with four home runs, eight RBI and additional five runs over the last 10 contests. |
Jun 12 2024 | Marte went 0-for-2 with three walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte drew multiple walks for the first time this season and has now swiped a bag in back-to-back games, bringing him up to three steals on the year. He continues to have a sharp eye at the plate so far in June, as he's slashing .375/.512/.688 with three homers, six RBI, eight runs and an 8:7 BB:K in 41 plate appearances. |
Jun 10 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk, a steal and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was back in Sunday's lineup after being scratched Saturday due to back soreness. His back didn't appear to hinder him, as he picked up just his second steal of the season after walking to leadoff the fourth. Marte has been scorching hot at the plate in June, slashing .462/.548/.846 with three homers, six RBI, six runs and a 4:5 BB:K over his last seven games. |
Jun 9 2024 | Marte (back) is starting at second base and batting second Sunday against the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old was scratched from Saturday's starting nine due to lower-back soreness but will end up sitting just one game. Marte is 11-for-26 with three homers, six RBI and a 4:7 BB:K through seven games in June, which has boosted his OPS for the season to .848. |
Jun 8 2024 | Marte was scratched from Arizona's lineup Saturday due to lower-back soreness, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte appeared to tweak something in his back during Friday's contest, and he'll sit down Saturday as a precaution. He is available off the bench, however, so his injury likely isn't a major issue. Blaze Alexander will start at second base and bat sixth. |
Jun 7 2024 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The second baseman is on a roll to begin June, going 11-for-26 (.423) with three homers and six RBI over his first seven games of the month. Marte is up to 13 long balls, 35 RBI, 41 runs scored, one stolen base and a .282/.340/.508 slash line over 63 contests this season. Marte's topped the 20-homer mark just twice in his first nine major-league seasons, but he's on pace to do it for the second year in a row. |
Jun 5 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had started each of the previous 18 contests for the Diamondbacks but will receive some rest during Wednesday's afternoon tilt. Blaze Alexander will cover second base for Marte. |
Jun 2 2024 | Marte went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and a walk Sunday against the Mets, finishing with three RBI and two runs scored. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte got the scoring going in the top of the first with a leadoff homer against Jose Quintana. He saved his best for last though, launching a decisive two-run shot in the ninth to propel Arizona to a 5-4 victory. The multi-HR performance was Marte's first of the season and the seventh of his career. The 30-year-old is off to a strong start, slashing .270/.330/.502 with 12 home runs, 32 RBI and 39 runs scored in 58 games played. |
May 31 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte produced Arizona's only offense with a two-run double in the third inning. The hit snapped an 0-for-22 run for Marte, who despite the slump, still leads the team's qualified batters with a .265 average. He's also tops among teammates in doubles (13) and is tied for second in RBI (29). |
May 23 2024 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte singled in his first at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 23 games and later added a solo homer to lead off the eighth, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead. The long ball was the second baseman's fifth this month, and he's now recorded at least one RBI in three of his last five games, batting .318 over that brief stretch. |
May 20 2024 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over Detroit. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte extended a hit streak to 18 games with a second-inning single. His single two innings later ended another streak: the switch hitter entered Sunday's contest with exactly one hit in 15 consecutive games. It seems counter-intuitive, but Marte's batting average has actually dropped during the streak, from .307 to .292. It should be noted he's done more than just hit singles during the run; Marte has four doubles, two triples, four home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored over those 18 games. |
May 19 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with an RBI triple and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Tigers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went down on strikes in each of his first two at-bats before driving in the first run of the game with a one-out triple in the bottom of the sixth. He would come home to score as well on a Joc Pederson single in the following at-bat, though the effort would fall short as Detroit stormed back in the seventh to take the lead. The triple was Marte's second of the season and extended his hitting streak to 17 games. However, he's recorded only one multi-hit game over that stretch and is batting just .246 in May with four homers, 10 RBI and seven runs scored. |
May 14 2024 | Marte is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned to second base for the last two games after spending two contests at designated hitter due to general body soreness. It would appear that him being absent from Tuesday's lineup is just a routine day off. Blaze Alexander is getting a start at second base and will bat second for the Diamondbacks. |
May 13 2024 | Marte started at second base and went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 9-2 win over Baltimore. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was back playing the field after serving as the designated hitter Friday and Saturday due to general body stiffness. He produced a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning then plated two more an inning later with a bases-loaded single. The single extended a hit streak to 13 games, which features one game with multiple hits (14-for-54, .259). What the streak lacks in average is made up for by slugging. Nine of Marte's 14 hits have gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple, four home runs), and he's knocked in 10 runs. |
May 11 2024 | Marte is starting at designated hitter Saturday for the second day in a row due to his body feeling a little stiff, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He socked his eighth home run of the season Friday to extend his hit streak to 11 games. Marte should return to the keystone once he feels right. Blaze Alexander has started each of the last two games at second base. |
May 8 2024 | Marte went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Cincinnati. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte clubbed the second of back-to-back home runs in a four-run seventh inning that put the game out of reach. It was the second straight game with a home run for Marte, who extended a hitting streak to eight games. His seven long balls are tied for the team lead with Christian Walker. |
May 6 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 11-4 win over San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte took Matt Waldron deep with a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the Diamondbacks an early lead. It was the seventh consecutive game with a hit for Marte, who homered for the first time in 16 games. He's belted six home runs and is slashing .307/.361/.526 through 35 contests. |
Apr 28 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win over Seattle. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's two-out double in the eighth plated Kevin Newman with the winning run. It was the second consecutive game that Marte has hit out of the three-hole, as manager Torey Lovullo made recent changes to accommodate for Corbin Carroll's slow start. Marte had been the team's primary leadoff hitter. |
Apr 24 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will take a seat for the first time since April 9, ending a streak of 13 consecutive starts during which he slashed a blistering .364/.413/.564 with two home runs, seven RBI and 12 runs. Kevin Newman will replace Marte at second base in the series finale in St. Louis. |
Apr 19 2024 | Marte went 4-for-6 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Friday's win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte led the Diamondbacks offense to a monster night with his four-hit performance as the team scored 17 runs. This is the second baseman's first four-hit effort since Sept. 19, 2023, which also came against San Francisco. Marte has been scorching hot to start the season, slashing .345/.392/.598 with five home runs, 12 RBI and 21 runs scored over 97 plate appearances. |
Apr 18 2024 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, jumping on the first pitch he saw from Jordan Wicks to give the Diamondbacks an early 1-0 lead. He then doubled in his next at-bat to lead off the third and singled home a run in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. The second baseman continues to swing a hot bat and has now recorded at least three hits in back-to-back contests, raising his batting average to .325 in the process. Marte has also homered in two straight games, giving him five long balls in the early campaign. |
Apr 17 2024 | Marte went 4-for-6 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored during Tuesday's 12-11 win over the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte delivered a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off Adbert Alzolay, setting up the D-Backs 10-inning victory. He racked up a trio of hits outside of the homer and is now slashing .301/.361/.534 with four home runs and the second most runs scored in MLB (19). |
Apr 9 2024 | Marte is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the first 11 games of the season and has an .883 OPS with three doubles, three homers, seven RBI and 11 runs in 53 plate appearances, but he'll step out of the lineup Tuesday. Jace Peterson will take over at the keystone and bat sixth. |
Apr 6 2024 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a leadoff home run and an RBI double in Saturday's 9-8 loss to Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both hits actually came in the first inning. Marte led off the top of the first with a mammoth 461-foot blast off of Max Fried and later concluded the scoring in a six-run frame by doubling in a run off the lefty. He also drew a walk. It's the second straight game with a leadoff home run for Marte and his third straight contest with a long ball. He's reached base 18 times in his first nine games. |
Apr 4 2024 | Marte started at designated hitter and went 2-for-5 with a double and solo home run in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte popped his first home run of the season in the fifth inning, knotting the game 2-2 and setting up the extra frames. He eventually moved to shortstop for the 11th inning after Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was removed. Marte came up through the system as a shortstop, which is where he played early in his career, but has since evolved into a second baseman following a brief stint in center field. If Perdomo misses game action, the Diamondbacks are expected to cover his absence with a combination of Blaze Alexander and Jace Peterson. |
Apr 2 2024 | Marte went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte plated a couple of runs on sacrifice flies and has three RBI through the first five games. He's cooled off following two three-hit games to open the season, but Marte's getting on base with regularity (.417 OBP) early on and is tied for the team lead with six runs scored. |
Mar 30 2024 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte picked up where he left off after a scorching spring with two consecutive three-hit games to open the regular season. The second baseman slashed .370/.424/.574 with eight extra-base hits in 57 spring plate appearances. |
Mar 23 2024 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's spring game against the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is closing out the best spring of his career in terms of OPS (1.131). He's hit safely in 15 of 16 games, going 20-for-47 (.426) with eight extra-base hits, six RBI and 10 runs scored. The switch-hitting Marte is set to open the season as Arizona's primary second baseman and bat in the upper third of the order, likely leading off against lefties and batting second against righties. |
Mar 3 2024 | Marte went 2-for-3 with two doubles in Saturday's spring game against the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has hit safely in all five Cactus League games, going 8-for-13 with three extra-base hits. He will be Arizona's primary second baseman for a third consecutive season in 2024. Since moving to the keystone in 2022, Marte has played 137 and 150 games in successive seasons. Prior to moving full-time to second base, he was bedeviled by hamstring issues when the Diamondbacks made him a full-time center fielder from 2019 to 2021. |
Sep 29 2023 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Astros. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Two of Marte's eight steals this season have come in September. He's hitting .313 (26-for-83) this month, an improvement on his .278 mark for the season. The second baseman has added an .849 OPS, 25 home runs, 82 RBI, 94 runs scored, 26 doubles and nine triples through 149 contests. |
Sep 27 2023 | Marte started at second base and went 2-for-4 with walk, a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 15-4 win over the White Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte did not play in Sunday's game due to an illness and was held out of the starting lineup Monday, although he entered that game as a pinch hitter. He's hit in five straight games when starting, going 10-for-20 with three home runs, a double, six RBI and seven runs scored. He's up to 94 runs scored, three shy of the career-high 97 he had in 2019. The Diamondbacks have five games remaining while competing for a wild-card spot, so Marte should be a lineup staple going forward. |
Sep 26 2023 | Marte (Illness) walked as a pinch hitter in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Yankees. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte walked for Jordan Lawlar in the eighth inning, loading the bases before Corbin Carroll drove in two with a single to give Arizona a brief lead. Marte stayed in the game to play second base. He'd been dealing with a stomach bug that made him unavailable Sunday and held him out of Monday's starting nine, but his usage suggests a return to the starting lineup Tuesday, when Arizona is in Chicago to start a three-game set with the White Sox. |
Sep 25 2023 | Marte (illness) is out of the lineup for Monday's series finale against the Yankees, but he said he expects to return to the starting nine for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will hit the bench for the second game in a row while he recovers from a bout with the stomach flu, but he noted Monday that he's feeling better than he did a day earlier. He'll likely go through a workout early Tuesday before the Diamondbacks determine if he's fit to return to the lineup for the series opener in Chicago. With a .991 OPS thus far in September, Marte is doing his part to ensure the Diamondbacks stay in the thick of the National League wild-card race. |
Sep 24 2023 | Marte was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Yankees due to an illness, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was penciled in to start his 11th straight game but will instead hit the bench due to the illness. Jordan Lawlar was added to the lineup at shortstop, pushing Geraldo Perdomo to second base. |
Sep 21 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte followed up his perfect 4-for-4 performance Tuesday with a solo shot in the seventh inning for his 24th home run. The Diamondbacks won their fifth straight, all against wild-card competitors, and Marte has been prominent in the streak. The second baseman has gone 8-for-21 with a double, two home runs, five RBI, four walks, a stolen base and five runs scored during the run, as the Diamondbacks leapfrogged the Cubs for the second wild-card spot while perhaps putting a dagger in the Giants playoff hopes. |
Sep 19 2023 | Marte went 4-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first four-hit game of the season, though all of the hits were singles. For the season, he's up to a .279/.360/.487 slash line with 23 home runs, 79 RBI, 90 runs scored and six stolen bases over 142 contests. |
Sep 17 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double, a walk and an additional run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has had a strong September, hitting safely in 12 of his 15 games. He's gone 17-for-58 (.293) this month while producing nine RBI and nine extra-base hits. The second baseman is up to a .274/.355/.483 slash line wit h23 homers, 77 RBI, 89 runs scored and six stolen bases over 141 contests overall. He continues to regularly hit leadoff versus southpaws and second versus right-handed pitchers. |
Sep 12 2023 | Marte went 2-for-5 with an RBI double in Monday's 4-3 win over the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte plated the winning run in the top of the ninth inning when he doubled home Alek Thomas. He's hit safely in 18 of the last 21 games, batting .313 (21-for-67) with 10 extra-base hits and a .957 OPS. Marte returned to the lineup after sitting out Sunday's contest with a knee injury. |
Sep 11 2023 | Marte (knee) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll return to the lineup after a one-game absence due to a sore right knee. Marte has produced hits in all but one of his eight starts thus far in September, slashing .333/.394/.600 with five extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs. |
Sep 10 2023 | Marte (knee) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs but could be available off the bench if needed, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was removed from Saturday's contest with left knee soreness after being hit by a pitch, and he's considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. The 29-year-old will be held out of the starting nine for at least one game, with Jace Peterson handling the keystone Sunday. |
Sep 9 2023 | Marte left Saturday's game against the Cubs in the seventh inning due to right knee soreness. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After fouling a ball off his right knee in the first inning, Marte's injury caught up to him in the seventh, and he was replaced at second base by Geraldo Perdomo. Marte's injury doesn't seem to be severe -- especially since he remained in the game after initially injuring his knee -- and he could potentially return to the lineup in a day or two. |
Sep 8 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBI against the Cubs in Thursday's 6-2 victory. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte and Tommy Pham combined to drive in all six of Arizona's runs in the win, with Marte contributing a two-run homer in the third inning and an RBI single in the ninth. The second baseman extended his modest hit streak to six games, during which he's batting .391 (9-for-23) with five extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs. Marte is up to 22 long balls on the campaign, his highest mark since he slugged 32 homers in 2019. |
Sep 4 2023 | Marte is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It appears to be a routine day off, which would be Marte's first since August 17. Geraldo Perdomo will slide over to second base while Nick Ahmed gets a start at shortstop Monday. |
Aug 26 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's fifth-inning blast put the Diamondbacks ahead 4-0, but it wasn't a lead they could hold. The second baseman has gone 6-for-18 (.333) with two homers and five RBI over his last five games. For the season, he's at 21 long balls, 67 RBI, 80 runs scored, six stolen bases and a .274/.355/.479 slash line through 122 contests. |
Aug 22 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk Monday in a 4-3 extra-innings win against the Rangers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Arizona trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Marte tagged Aroldis Chapman for a solo shot to left field to tie the score. The long ball was his 20th of the campaign, just the second season in his career that he has reached that mark. The other time was in 2019, when Marte went deep 32 times and drove in 92 runs. He'll be hard-pressed to reach those totals this year, but with 20 homers and 63 RBI, he's already posted his best numbers in those categories since that 2019 season. |
Aug 17 2023 | Marte is not in Thursday's lineup against the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is hitting .151 with two home runs in 53 at-bats this month. Arizona will deploy both of its shortstops, with Geraldo Perdomo manning the keystone. |
Aug 8 2023 | Marte (quad) went 2-for-5 with one RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was able to avoid missing a game after exiting Sunday's game versus the Twins with quad tightness. He was back atop the order Tuesday after Monday's team off day, and he played all nine innings at second base. The 29-year-old is slashing .284/.359/.495 with 18 home runs, 58 RBI, 73 runs scored and six stolen bases through 107 contests, though he's gone just 3-for-25 (.120) over seven games in August. |
Aug 6 2023 | Marte was lifted from Sunday's game against the Twins with left quad tightness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republicreports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old went 0-for-3 before being replaced by Geraldo Perdomo during the bottom of the fifth inning. Marte will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery prior to Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers. |
Aug 3 2023 | Marte is absent from the lineup Thursday versus the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Diamondbacks' loss at San Francisco on Wednesday and will grab some physical and mental rest during Thursday's matinee. Geraldo Perdomo is getting the start at second base for Arizona, and Nick Ahmed will play shortstop. |
Aug 1 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, going 18-for-47 (.383) with seven extra-base hits in that span. The second baseman had one of three homers for Arizona in this contest. Marte is now at a solid .294/.372/.517 slash line with 18 long balls, 57 RBI, 73 runs scored and six stolen bases through 101 contests. |
Jul 28 2023 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a walk in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was able to make some noise against his former team, but he wasn't directly involved in any run-scoring plays. He saw a six-game hitting streak end Wednesday versus the Cardinals, but he's still logged six multi-hit efforts in 13 games since the All-Star break. The second baseman is at a .296/.375/.517 slash line with 17 home runs, 55 RBI, 70 runs scored and six stolen bases through 97 contests. |
Jul 26 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Diamondbacks down, 1-0, entering the eighth inning, Marte led off with a triple and trotted home on a single. An earlier single extended his hit streak to six games, and Marte is scorching hot since the All-Star break. The second baseman is 16-for-45 (.356) with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored over 11 contests. |
Jul 24 2023 | Marte went 2-for-2 with three walks and a run scored in Sunday's 7-3 loss to Cincinnati. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is rolling with hits in four straight games. |
Jul 22 2023 | Marte went 3-for-5 with a triple, two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran infielder took Ben Lively deep in the first inning for a solo shot before launching a two-run blast in seventh off Fernando Cruz. The 11 total bases were a single-game career high for Marte, who is having his most productive season since his breakout 2019 -- through 91 games, he's slashing .286/.361/.516 with 17 homers, six steals, 54 RBI and 67 runs. |
Jul 16 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double and three RBI in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Blue Jays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte cleared the bases with a three-run double in the ninth inning. The runs driven snapped an 11-game drought without an RBI. Prior to that rally, that Diamondbacks' offense consisted of two runs on a two-base throwing error and wild pitch. Arizona had scoring issues during a three-game sweep, scoring just six runs over the previous 26 innings. The loss dropped them to third third place in the NL West. |
Jul 15 2023 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte scored the Diamondbacks' first run on a wild pitch after hitting a leadoff double in the fourth inning, but that was not enough to offset the damage he did in the field. A second-inning error led to a run, then he misplayed a potential double-play groundball and had a throwing error during Toronto's five-run seventh inning. In addition to Marte's foibles, two Arizona baserunners ran into two outs and another was caught stealing. Marte's minus-two Outs Above Average mark ranks tied for 30th among MLB second basemen. |
Jul 6 2023 | Marte (back) went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 9-0 loss to the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks fell behind early, but Marte still played seven innings at second base after not starting Tuesday or Wednesday. He's hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, going 11-for-44 (.250) in that span. For the season, Marte owns a .285/.364/.498 slash line, 15 home runs, 44 RBI, 61 runs scored and six stolen bases through 81 contests. |
Jul 5 2023 | Marte is out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Mets due to lower-back soreness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This back issue also explains his absence from Tuesday's series opener against New York, though there has been no indication that Marte will require a trip to the injured list. He could maybe return for Thursday's series finale. Geraldo Perdomo is playing second base for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and Nick Ahmed will cover shortstop. |
Jul 4 2023 | Marte is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Geraldo Perdomo is playing second base and batting leadoff. Nick Ahmed will start at shortstop and hit eighth. This appears to be a planned day of physical and mental rest for Marte, who went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Sunday's series finale versus the Angels. |
Jul 2 2023 | Marte batted leadoff and went 1-for-5 in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks hadn't seen a left-handed starter in nearly two weeks, and in the previous instance Geraldo Perdomo was elevated to leadoff. It was unclear if Perdomo would handle the role full time, but it appears Marte has retained the spot atop the order against lefties as he'd been doing all season. |
Jun 27 2023 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rays. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's power swing remained in action Tuesday, as he clobbered his fifth homer in his last seven games. He's up to 15 long balls on the year, his most since a 32-homer campaign in 2019. The second baseman has also been hitting well generally of late with at least one knock in 10 of his last 11 games. Marte is up to a .295/.374/.526 slash line with 43 RBI, 60 runs scored, 13 doubles, four triples and six stolen bases through 74 contests. His place in the top half of a strong lineup bodes well for his continued production as long he keeps hitting well. |
Jun 25 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and a walk in Sunday's win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's two-run blast in the eighth inning proved to be the deciding hit of Sunday's victory. Over his last 12 games, he's drilled five home runs while going 18-for-44 (.409). Marte's bounce-back campaign is still going strong; he's slashing .294/.373/.518 with 31 extra-base hits and 58 runs scored through 322 plate appearances. |
Jun 22 2023 | Marte went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run during Thursday's 5-3 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old went deep during the seventh inning to give Arizona a four-run advantage, which proved pivotal since Washington rallied for a couple late runs. Marte extended his on-base streak to 16 games and is hitting .328 with four home runs, 14 RBI, 20 runs and a 14:9 BB:K during that span. |
Jun 20 2023 | Marte went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored during Tuesday's 7-5 loss at Milwaukee. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte extended Arizona's lead to 4-0 with a three-run shot, his 11th homer of the year, to right field during the second inning, but the bullpen was unable to maintain the advantage. The 29-year-old extended his hit streak to seven games and has gone 12-for-25 with four extra-base hits, eight RBI and 10 runs during that stretch, raising his season slash line to .293/.366/.498. |
Jun 18 2023 | Marte is not in the starting lineup versus the Guardians on Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has been excellent in the month of June with a .998 OPS over 49 at-bats, but he'll get a chance to rest for the series finale against Cleveland. Geraldo Perdomo is leading off and playing second base in Marte's absence. |
Jun 16 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned to the starting lineup after being given two days off due to back tightness, although he did serve as a pinch hitter Wednesday. His third-inning homer briefly gave Arizona a lead, but starter Ryne Nelson couldn't hold it. The home run was the 10th in 64 games for Marte, who hit 12 in 137 games last season. |
Jun 15 2023 | Marte (back) is in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will play second base and bat second against the Phillies and right-hander Aaron Nola as he returns in full from a bit of lower-back tightness. He drew a walk off the bench Wednesday and is slashing .280/.353/.473 with nine homers and six steals through 63 games this year. |
Jun 14 2023 | Marte is sitting out Wednesday due to lower-back tightness which he first felt on a slide in Monday's game versus the Phillies, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It explains why Marte is missing a second straight start. The good news is it doesn't appear to be serious, with Marte expecting to be available off the bench Wednesday before possibily return to the lineup Thursday. Geraldo Perdomo is sliding over to second base Wednesday, with Nick Ahmed drawing the start at shortstop. |
Jun 13 2023 | Marte is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Josh Rojas will cover second base and bat seventh versus the Phillies and right-hander Zack Wheeler. This looks to be a routine night off for Marte, who tallied three hits and three runs scored in the Diamondbacks' series-opening victory Monday. |
Jun 8 2023 | Marte is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will get a breather with it being a day game after a night game. The Diamondbacks are going with Josh Rojas at second base and Emmanuel Rivera at the hot corner. |
Jun 5 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk and two-run home run in Sunday's 8-5 loss to Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's two-run home run in the fourth was shaping up to be the game-winning hit, but Atlanta stunned the home team with a grand slam in the ninth to steal the victory. The homer was Marte's ninth in 56 games, which far outpaces the 12 hit over 137 games in 2022. |
Jun 1 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte cut the Rockies' lead to 4-3 with an RBI double in the seventh before eventually scoring the winning run after doubling again with two outs in the ninth. The 29-year-old Marte has hit safely in 11 straight games, going 15-for-48 with six extra-base hits in that span. He's now slashing .284/.342/.486 with eight homers, 33 runs scored, 23 RBI and six stolen bases through 231 plate appearances this season. |
May 31 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned to the lineup after getting Monday off and wasted no time in extending his on-base streak to 28 games and hit streak to nine with a first-inning homer. The second baseman is 12-for-39 with three homers, one triple, five RBI, two steals and six runs scored during the nine-game hit streak. |
May 29 2023 | Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is likely receiving a routine day off after starting at second base in each of Arizona's last nine games and producing at least one hit in the last eight contests to bring his season average up to .282. Josh Rojas will slide over from third base to fill in for the resting Marte at the keystone. |
May 28 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Red Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte gave the Diamondbacks an early lead with a first-inning blast. It was the seventh home run for Marte, who has produced regularly this month. The second baseman is 28-for-92 (.304) with 11 walks, four home runs, two triples, one double, three steals and 12 runs scored over 23 May games. |
May 21 2023 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte homered in the first inning to give the Diamondbacks an early and later had the first of back-to-back infield singles that resulted in a run. Prior to the second of the those infield hits, Marte and Josh Rojas executed a double steal, putting a runner in scoring position for Corbin Carroll to knock in. Marte has heated up in May, posting a .323 average (21-for-65) with 10 walks over 17 games. |
May 17 2023 | Marte is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will get a breather with Arizona and Oakland getting together for a day game after Tuesday night's contest lasted 12 innings. Josh Rojas will slide over to second base and Emmanuel Rivera gets a start at third base while Marte heads to the bench. |
May 3 2023 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI, an additional run and two walks in Wednesday's 12-7 win at Texas. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had just two home runs and six RBI in his first 24 games of the season, but he's surpassed and doubled up those numbers over the past four contests with three long balls and six runs driven in. The 29-year-old typically hits second against right-handed pitchers and leadoff against lefties, so his run scoring is likely to be more consistent than his RBI production. |
May 2 2023 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-4 loss against the Rangers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the scoring with a first-inning home run. He picked up his second RBI on a sac fly in the second inning. Marte has come across to score 17 runs in 27 games this season, as he hits second in a Diamondbacks lineup producing the 10th most runs in baseball. |
Apr 29 2023 | Marte is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He hit his third homer of the season in the first game of the series in Coors Field but will head to the bench against righty Noah Davis. Josh Rojas is starting at second base while Emmanuel Rivera starts at the hot corner. Marte has a .311/.347/.556 slash line with two home runs, nine strikeouts and one walk in his last 12 games. |
Mar 25 2023 | Marte (illness) will lead off and play second base in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had been scratched due to illness Thursday but is ready for game action two days later. He's gone 4-for-19 at the plate in spring training, plus an additional 2-for-8 at the World Baseball Classic. |
Mar 20 2023 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a double in Sunday's spring game against Kansas City. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first game since returning from the World Baseball Classic, where he played for Team Dominican Republic. He had a couple of hard-hit balls, including the double and a 105.8 mph lineout to center field, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Marte had been slumping prior to playing in the WBC, so perhaps the hard-hit balls are a sign his swing has come around. |
Mar 16 2023 | Marte is batting .154 (2-for-13) with one double, three walks, one RBI and one run scored over five spring games. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is currently at the World Baseball Classic as part of Team Dominican Republic. When he returns to MLB action, the 29-year-old will be Arizona's primary second baseman. After a brief dalliance as a center fielder, the Diamondbacks decided to move him back to the keystone due to injuries that were perceived as a result of him playing the outfield. As an infielder in 2022, Marte played 137 games, but his .728 OPS was his lowest output since 2016. |
Sep 30 2022 | Marte (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He was originally listed as part of Friday's lineup, so it's unclear what the exact injury is, but Marte hasn't been 100 percent healthy for much of the season. Buddy Kennedy, who was recalled in a corresponding move, could get some opportunities over the final days of the season. |
Sep 21 2022 | Marte isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will get a breather after going 2-for-7 with a home run and three runs scored between both games of Tuesday's doubleheader. In his place, Sergio Alcantara will start at second base and bat sixth. |
Sep 17 2022 | Marte will hit the bench Saturday against San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte sits after starting five straight games. He isn't having a particularly strong September, slashing .188/.250/.333 in 14 games. Josh Rojas will be the second baseman Saturday. |
Sep 16 2022 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 4-0 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte hit the first of three Arizona solo homers in the contest, smashing a 423-foot shot in the fourth inning. It was his first long ball since July 27, a span of 36 games. After going deep 32 times in 2019, Marte has hit only 27 homers in 260 contests since. |
Sep 11 2022 | Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte knocked in a run each of the last two days, but he will get a day off amid a 4-for-37 (.108) stretch at the plate. Josh Rojas will cover the keystone Sunday in Marte's place. |
Sep 10 2022 | Marte started at second base and went 0-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 13-10 loss to Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Arizona manager Torey Lovullo indicated Marte would get a day off during the three-game set in Denver, which means fantasy managers should expect a day off Saturday or Sunday. The day off is due to Marte's history of hamstring injuries occurring in Colorado, but the manager could also give him a break amid a slump. Marte is hitless over his last four contests. |
Sep 8 2022 | Marte will play two of the three games in Colorado this weekend, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The Diamondbacks begin a three-game set in Denver on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has an injury history at Coors Field, including his latest hamstring issue in mid-August which prompted two days off and several games limited to designated hitter. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said at that time that Marte would likely get one day off the next time the team travels to Colorado. |
Sep 4 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Josh Rojas will play second base and Jake McCarthy will handle designated-hitter duties while Marte gets some maintenance in the series finale. Marte had started each of the previous six games, going 5-for-23 with four doubles, two walks, three runs and one RBI during that stretch. |
Aug 30 2022 | Marte started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 13-7 win over Philadelphia. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was restricted to designated hitter and pinch-hit duty the past week, but he returned to the field just in time to accommodate Arizona's call-up of top prospect Corbin Carroll. Opening up the DH slot allows manager Torey Lovullo to fill up the outfield with young guns Carroll, Alex Thomas and Daulton Varsho while giving Jake McCarthy's hot bat a home in the lineup. |
Aug 28 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had served as Arizona's designated hitter in each of the past five games, going 3-for-22 with a walk, two RBI and a run over those contests. Rookie Stone Garrett will fill in for him in the series finale. |
Aug 21 2022 | Marte went 1-for-5 with a strikeout in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte missed six games with a left hamstring injury. The lackluster return to action put him at a .257/.341/.431 slash line through 431 plate appearances this year. He's added 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 56 runs scored and four stolen bases, though he shouldn't be expected to run much since he's had hamstring issues off and on throughout the year. If Marte continues to serve as the designated hitter, Josh Rojas and Emmanuel Rivera should both be able to fit into the lineup regularly at second base and third base, respectively. |
Aug 20 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is not in Saturday's lineup against St. Louis. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte made a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, but he has not started a game since injuring his hamstring during last Sunday's contest versus the Rockies and leaving the game early. Prior to his injury, he had posted an OPS of just .541 over 50 plate appearances since the beginning of August. |
Aug 19 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is not in Friday's lineup against the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury and appeared Wednesday as a pinch hitter. He is hitting .213/.275/.255 with zero home runs and zero steals in 13 games this month. |
Aug 18 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte entered as a pinch hitter in Wednesday's contest, but he is not ready for a full nine innings just yet. Josh Rojas will again man the keystone for the Diamondbacks. |
Aug 17 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old suffered the injury Sunday against the Rockies and will be sidelined Wednesday for the third consecutive contest. Manager Torey Lovullo previously indicated the injury wouldn't necessitate a trip to the injured list, so Marte should still be considered day-to-day. |
Aug 16 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's injury prevented him from starting Monday, and it will keep him in a reserve role for at least another night. Manager Torey Lovullo downplayed the injury when asked, so Marte should have a chance to get back in there Wednesday. |
Aug 15 2022 | Marte (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The extent of Marte's injury is not yet known, but it will force him to the bench for at least one night. Josh Rojas will man the keystone in Marte's place. |
Aug 11 2022 | Marte is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will take a seat after he went 7-for-23 with two doubles, six RBI and three runs scored over the last six games. Sergio Alcantara will start at second base and bat eighth in the series finale. |
Aug 9 2022 | Marte went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's 3-0 win over the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte helped give Diamondbacks closer Ian Kennedy some added cushion with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, when he poked a base hit past a diving Oneil Cruz to plate two runs. Though he often occupies a spot in the heart of the order for Arizona, Marte now has just three multi-RBI games since the beginning of July, and his production in other categories has been rather empty as well. Over the past five weeks, he's managed only six home runs, zero stolen bases and 18 runs while batting .252 over a 31-game stretch. |
Jul 22 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 10-1 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte provided a big three-run homer in the third inning and added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. This was his third multi-hit effort in his last five games, and he's gone deep four times in his last seven. Notably, the 28-year-old started at second base -- lingering effects from a hamstring injury had kept him limited to designated hitter for much of the last month. He owns a .274/.364/.466 slash line with nine homers, 33 RBI, 47 runs scored, four stolen bases, two triples and 26 doubles in 340 plate appearances. |
Jul 15 2022 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was involved in both of Arizona's scoring plays Friday. He hit a solo shot in the first inning and was on base when Christian Walker hit a two-run blast in the fourth. This was Marte's third homer in the last four games, a span in which he's gone 7-for-15 (.467). He's up to a .276/.368/.459 slash line with eight long balls, 29 RBI, 45 runs scored and four stolen bases in 80 contests. He was caught stealing in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday, which was his first attempted steal since June 15 -- that suggests he's starting to move past a hamstring injury that has nagged him since late June. |
Jul 14 2022 | Marte was caught stealing to end the first inning of Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Marte's first attempted steal since returning from a hamstring injury June 21. The hamstring continues to be bothersome and has recently limited him to DH duty, but the attempted swipe suggests Marte is feeling better. |
Jul 13 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte took Sam Long yard in the third inning to record his seventh home run of the season. He returned to the lineup after getting Tuesday to allow an extra day of rest for his lingering hamstring injury. The issue has caused him to serve as Arizona's designated hitter exclusively since June 21. In 18 games since, Marte has managed a .268 average with three home runs, six RBI and 10 runs scored. Overall, Marte owns a .269/.363/.444 line across 322 plate appearances for the season. |
Jul 12 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Daulton Varsho will step in as Arizona's designated hitter, the spot Marte has exclusively occupied since returning to action June 21 after a stint on the injured list due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Manager Torey Lovullo recently suggested that Marte could soon be ready to play second base, with the Diamondbacks ideally breaking him back into the infield at some point over their final few games before the All-Star break. |
Jul 8 2022 | Marte isn't starting Friday against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started in the last four games and went 4-for-13 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. However, he'll take a seat while Cooper Hummel serves as the designated hitter and bats sixth. |
Jul 7 2022 | Marte started at designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo continues to use Marte at DH, fearing the aggravation of a recent hamstring injury if the manager puts the player in the field. That fear was apparently at play in the ninth inning, when Lovullo removed Marte for a pinch runner after the DH singled home a run and became the tying run. Marte has not played in the field since June 21. |
Jul 3 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will head to the bench for only the second time since he made his return from a hamstring injury June 21. Because the injury still inhibits his lateral movement in the infield, Marte has served exclusively as a designated hitter in his eight starts since returning to the lineup, going a collective 6-for-27 with a home run, nine walks, four runs and two RBI over those games. Cooper Hummel will serve as Arizona's DH in the series finale Sunday. |
Jul 2 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Saturday's 11-7 loss to the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went 0-for-8 in his previous two games, and his homer Saturday was his first extra-base hit in eight contests since he returned from a hamstring injury. The 28-year-old is expected to remain as the designated hitter, as he's been kept out of the field since his return. The second baseman is slashing .264/.351/.424 with five homers, 24 RBI, 37 runs scored, four stolen bases and 23 doubles in 285 plate appearances. Given how cautious Arizona has been with the star infielder, it would be surprising to see him test his luck on the basepaths much in the near future. |
Jun 29 2022 | Marte went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte once again served as the designated hitter as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. He was never tested on the basepaths, scoring easily from second base on Buddy Kennedy's double in the seventh inning and walking home from third base when Carson Kelly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth. This was the fifth straight game in which Marte served as the DH, and he's 4-for-15 with eight walks during that stretch. |
Jun 27 2022 | Marte is taking ground balls and hitting during practice but is not yet up to full speed after missing time due to a hamstring injury, Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte served as the designated hitter for a fifth consecutive game Sunday. The Diamondbacks are being careful with their starting second baseman, who's had a history over hamstring injuries. The team is off Monday, so the next chance for Marte to take the field is Tuesday against the Padres. |
Jun 25 2022 | Marte started at designated hitter and went 0-for-2 with two walks in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Tigers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte hasn't played the field since injuring his hamstring last weekend. He served at DH on Tuesday and again Friday. Jake Hager filled in at second base with Buddy Kennedy nursing a wrist injury. |
Jun 22 2022 | Marte isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Padres, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned to the lineup Tuesday against San Diego and went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Jake Hager starts at the keystone and bats eighth. |
Jun 21 2022 | Marte (hamstring) went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in Tuesday's 3-2 extra-innings loss to the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte didn't get on base until the 11th inning, and he was promptly lifted for a pinch runner (pitcher Luke Weaver). Marte missed four games before serving as the designated hitter Tuesday, and he may need to stick in that role for a little longer before returning to his regular position at second base. He's now batting .264 on the year after Tuesday's lackluster performance at the dish. |
Jun 20 2022 | Marte (hamstring) isn't starting Monday against the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is expected to return at some point during the Diamondbacks' three-game series against the Padres, but he'll remain out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game. Buddy Kennedy is starting at the keystone and batting sixth. |
Jun 19 2022 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo expects Marte (hamstring) to be available during the upcoming three-game series against San Diego, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. The series begins Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was held out of the weekend series against the Twins due to a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. The Diamondbacks downplayed the injury, as Lovullo described it as "very, very mild." The club initially didn't request an MRI but eventually did when the second baseman didn't respond as quickly as hoped. Jake Hager started at second base Friday while Buddy Kennedy started Saturday and Sunday. |
Jun 18 2022 | Marte has a Grade 1 left lateral hamstring strain and is considered day-to-day, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He has been sidelined since Wednesday and was hitting .306/.390/.500 with one home run over his last 10 games. The team will see how Marte progresses over the next day or two before deciding if a roster move needs to be made. |
Jun 17 2022 | Marte (hamstring) isn't in the lineup Friday against the Twins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte exited Wednesday's game against the Reds due to hamstring tightness and will be out of the lineup following Thursday's off day. Jake Hager is starting at the keystone and batting eighth. |
Jun 15 2022 | Marte was removed from Wednesday's win over the Reds with tightness in his hamstring, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run before being replaced in the field for the ninth inning, and manager Torey Lovullo labeled the second baseman's removal a precautionary move. The Diamondbacks have a scheduled day off Thursday, so the 28-year-old will have a full day to recover ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Twins. |
Jun 11 2022 | Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte does not sit much, but he will get a breather after snapping a three-game multi-hit streak Friday. Jake Hager will cover the keystone Saturday in Marte's place. |
Jun 8 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-8 loss to the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's blast was part of Arizona's five-run eighth inning. After just two homers over his first 49 games, Marte has gone deep twice in the last five. |
Jun 4 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is on a 16-game hitting streak, and he was the only Diamondback to record multiple hits Saturday. He's 23-for-59 (.390) during the streak. The second baseman hasn't enjoyed over-the-fence power with just three home runs in 50 contests, but he's up to 19 doubles. He's posted a .268/.338/.432 slash line with 18 RBI, 25 runs scored and three stolen bases this season. |
May 31 2022 | Marte went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-7 extra-inning win over Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was initially given the day off, but he entered as a pinch hitter for Jake Hager in the seventh inning, grounding into a double play. He stayed in the game at second base and delivered a single and a stolen base in Arizona's ninth-inning rally to tie the game. Marte's hitting streak is up to 11 contests, a span in which he's gone 15-for-43 (.349). For the season, the veteran infielder is up to a .260/.325/.405 slash line with two home runs, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases through 191 plate appearances. |
May 29 2022 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a double in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two-bagger extended Marte's hitting streak to eight games, leaving him one contest away from matching his season-long total. In spite of the two eight-plus-game hitting streaks, Marte is still sitting on a disappointing .250/.315/.390 slash line for the season. He'll look to stay hot in the series finale Sunday, when he'll be batting third as Arizona's designated hitter. |
May 21 2022 | Marte is starting Saturday against the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has dealt with a sore hand recently, and he was out of the lineup for three of the last four games. However, he'll start at the keystone and bat third during Saturday's matchup, and he's also expected to start Sunday. Since the start of May, the 28-year-old has hit .365 with a home run, a triple, seven doubles, 11 runs, five RBI and a stolen base over 16 games. |
May 20 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte returned to the lineup Thursday after missing two games with a sore hand, and he'll head back to the bench for Friday's matchup with Chicago, though there's been no indication he aggravated the injury. Yonny Hernandez will man second base in his place. |
May 19 2022 | Marte (hand) is starting Thursday against the Cubs. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte missed the last two games due to left hand soreness, but he'll start at the keystone and bat third during Thursday's series opener at Wrigley Field. Over his last five games, he's gone 7-for-17 with three doubles, three runs and three RBI. |
May 18 2022 | Marte (hand) isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was scratched from the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader due to a sore left hand, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second straight game. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but Jake Hager will start at the keystone and bat ninth. |
May 17 2022 | Marte was scratched from Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers due to left hand soreness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte came off the bench during Game 1 and apparently suffered the injury during his last at-bat, and he was spotted icing his hand between the two contests. The 28-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available on the injury. |
May 10 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-3 win over the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's sixth-inning blast was the game-deciding hit, as he continued to put a season-opening slump in the past. He's hit safely in nine straight game (13-for-32, .406), including an extra-base hit in eight of those contests. The improved bat may also have calmed him in the field, where he ranks lower half among second baseman in Outs Above Average and success rate, per MLB's Baseball Savant. Marte made a game-ending double play on a ball hit sharply to his left -- the kind of play he hadn't made on multiple occasions over the past month. |
May 9 2022 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte extended his hitting streak to eight games and climbed above .200 for the first time in three weeks. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that Marte has gotten "a little bit of his swagger back" at the plate. "He's not there quite yet. But he's checking off the pitches he's supposed to. He's starting to impact the ball at certain times in certain situations," the manager added. The second baseman is 11-for-28 (.393) with five walks, seven extra-base hits and seven runs scored during the eight-game run. |
May 8 2022 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Colorado. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte extended his hitting streak to seven straight, during which he's 8-for-24 with six extra-base hits, two RBI and six runs scored. He was hitting a paltry .135 before the seven-game run and currently sits at .184 for the season. |
May 5 2022 | Marte went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is still batting below .200, but he extended a hit streak to five games, during which he's 6-for-18 with five extra-base hits, three walks and six runs scored. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has moved him around the order in effort to jumpstart the bat, and his recent run batting sixth against right-handers appears to have helped. |
May 2 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will sit for the second time this season after going 3-for-26 with a solo home run and no other RBI while starting each of Arizona's last seven games. The poor stretch at the plate was a continuation of a rough start to the season for Marte, who enters Monday's contest with a .151/.213/.279 slash line across 94 plate appearances. |
Apr 30 2022 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Saturday against the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning, leading off the inning with a homer off Miles Mikolas. The homer was just the first of the season for Marte, who's still hitting a miserable .146/.211/.256 on the year. |
Apr 25 2022 | Marte has a 32.2 chase percentage, up nearly five points over his career average, per Baseball Savant. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was given a scheduled day off Sunday, which came at an opportune time for the struggling infielder. He entered the game batting .169 (10-for-59) with a 27.3 percent strikeout rate, well above his career norm. The issues at the plate may be impacting him in other areas. He muffed a couple of balls in the field Saturday -- not the first he's kicked this season -- and Marte is expanding the strike zone as seen by his chase rate. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo made note of Marte's issues but downplayed them to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "I know it looks awkward and that it's a hotspot right now," Lovullo said. "But, for me, it's really not." Look for Marte back in the lineup Monday when the Diamondbacks begin a series at home against the Dodgers. |
Apr 24 2022 | Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the first 15 games of the season but will take a seat Sunday with a .496 OPS and 27.3 percent strikeout rate through 66 plate appearances. Geraldo Perdomo will cover the keystone in his place for the series finale. |
Apr 21 2022 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Nationals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is the latest Diamondback regular to push his average to .200 or better, making him one four players at or above the Mendoza line. He barely missed a home run on his first bat before popping out Wednesday, but the second baseman later was involved in a pair of rallies in a breakout performance for the team. The Diamondbacks plated half as many runs in this one game as they had in the previous 11. |
Apr 13 2022 | Marte went 1-for-3 with two RBI and was hit by a pinch in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte knocked in his first two runs of the season, neither one coming as the result of a base hit. He was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning, then a bases-loaded, walkoff sacrifice fly in the 10th produced the winning run. The Diamondbacks are still struggling to hit -- Wednesday's six-hit output (all singles) were a season high -- but they are working the plate. Their nine walks Wednesday featured prominently in both scoring rallies, and they lead MLB with 33 free passes over six games. |
Apr 10 2022 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and stolen base in a 10-5 loss to San Diego on Sunday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte doubled and stole third in the first inning and later tacked on a walk in the eighth. Arizona's best player had reached base just once through the first three games of the season. It was encouraging to see Marte active on the bases after he notched only three steals across 135 games in 2020 and 2021 combined. |
Mar 27 2022 | Marte signed a five-year, $76 million contract extension with Arizona on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has developed into a strong second baseman across the last several seasons, and he'll now have his two upcoming option years guaranteed while remaining under contract with the team through the 2027 season. The 28-year-old appeared in 90 games last year and slashed .318/.377/.532 with 14 homers, 52 runs, 50 RBI and two stolen bases. |
Mar 25 2022 | Marte started at second base, batted second and went 1-for-4 in Thursday's spring training game against Milwaukee. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who had been delayed by left-eye irritation, delivered his first base hit of the Cactus League in what was his first appearance in the field. As expected, he played second base and batted in the top third of the order. Injuries have been his biggest concern, particularly the nettlesome hamstrings that limited him to 90 games in 2021. That followed back and wrist injuries the previous two seasons. He told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that he hopes the focus on second base, which requires less stress than center field, will keep him healthy for the season. |
Mar 24 2022 | Marte is expected to make his on-field debut in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Brewers, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Irritation in Marte's left eye limited him at the start of camp, and his lone game appearance thus far in the Cactus League has been as a designated hitter. When Marte does hit the field, he is expected to line up at second base. |
Mar 21 2022 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo expects Marte (eye) to make his first Cactus League appearance Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday and eventually get starts at second base, where he's expected to make his primary home in 2022. He ramped up activity toward the end of last week, first batting in a cage then taking live batting practice. The 28-year-old's activity also included fielding high-intensity groundballs. |
Mar 20 2022 | Marte (eye) took live batting practice Saturday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After two consecutive days of batting in a cage, Saturday's session was Marte's first against live pitching since camp started. He's expected to make his spring game-action debut this week. |
Mar 19 2022 | Marte (eye) should be a full participant by Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte took swings in the batting cage for a second consecutive day Friday then was informed by the eye doctor that he'd be a full go next week. Marte has been dealing with eye irritation that prevented him from participating in any workouts since camp began. |
Mar 18 2022 | Marte (eye) did not participate in workouts Thursday but did take swings in the batting cage, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The batting-cage activity represents progress for Marte, who is still bothered by irritation in his left eye. He has yet to participate in a workout since the truncated spring training began earlier this week, but Marte is expected to be a full go soon, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. |
Mar 16 2022 | Marte (eye) missed a second consecutive day of workouts Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has irritation in his left eye, which isn't expected to linger too long. At this point, there's no talk of him missing Opening Day. |
Mar 14 2022 | Marte didn't participate in Monday's team workout after experiencing left eye irritation, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte labeled the eye issue as a minor concern and said he expects to be back on the field Tuesday. The 28-year-old switch-hitter is expected to make a full-time move to second base during the upcoming season, after he primarily played center field in 2021. |
Mar 12 2022 | Marte is expected to open the season as Arizona's starting second baseman, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The wear and tear of playing center field has finally prompted the Diamondbacks to move Marte back to second base, where his career began. That move leaves a gaping hole in the outfield, which could be filled by Daulton Varsho. |
Oct 3 2021 | Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started the past eight games but will take a seat for the final game of the season. If the 27-year-old doesn't make an appearance off the bench, he'll finish 2021 with a .319/.378/.534 slash line, 14 homers, 29 doubles, 50 RBI and 52 runs in 89 games. Josh VanMeter will start at the keystone in his place. |
Oct 2 2021 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rockies on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's 419-foot blast was part of Arizona's seven-run third inning, though even that wasn't enough to prevent the team from registering its 110th loss of the campaign. While Marte has been set back by multiple hamstring injuries this season, he has been the team's best hitter when healthy, slashing .317/.378/.530 with 14 homers, 48 RBI and a pair of stolen bases over 334 at-bats. |
Sep 30 2021 | Marte started at second base and went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started at the keystone for the 10th consecutive game and has played at least an inning there in 12 straight. The Diamondbacks appear to be preparing him as the 2022 starter at second base. |
Sep 25 2021 | Marte went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a 7-2 win over the Dodgers on Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte led off the bottom of the first with his 13th long ball of the season, singled in the third and singled and scored in the fifth for his second three-hit game this week. A recent 9-for-20 stretch has contributed to an excellent .297/.398/.541 slash line in 19 September games for the 27-year-old. |
Sep 23 2021 | Marte isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had started each of the last five games, and he hit .350 with four doubles, two runs and an RBI during that time. Jake McCarthy will start in center field and bat eighth. |
Sep 22 2021 | The Diamondbacks are expected to have Marte anchored at one position next season instead of bouncing between second base and center field, Steve Gilbert of the Diamondbacks' official site reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has battled injury issues since the end of 2019, which management believes could be partially related to having him play multiple positions. This is the same refrain we've heard from Arizona's decision makers the last couple of seasons, but they've opted to take advantage of Marte's versatility. "I would think at this stage, we're going to probably zone in a little bit more on one position," Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said. "That is my gut feeling right now, but I want to hear from the coaches as well." Marte has seen a lot of time at second base over the last week, which could be a sign of things to come. Particularly if they deem outfield prospect Alek Thomas is ready for the majors to start 2022. |
Sep 21 2021 | Marte started at second base and went 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI in Monday's 11-4 loss to Atlanta. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's three doubles give him 26 in 79 games this season and raised his slugging to a team-high .542. This was the third straight start at second base and fourth in the last five contests for Marte, who has been Arizona's primary center fielder this season when healthy. He may not be done as an outfielder, but the Diamondbacks have talked for a couple of seasons about splitting his duties more evenly between the outfield and infield as a way to sustain his long-term health. Daulton Varsho started in center field Monday. |
Sep 17 2021 | Marte will get a rest Friday against Houston. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte sits after starting 16 straight games, a stretch in which he hit .226/.324/.435 with four homers. Jake McCarthy will take over in center field. |
Sep 14 2021 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a strikeout in an 8-4 loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was the only Diamondback to find success Tuesday; he singled in the fourth and sixth innings before launching a three-run home run in the seventh to bring Arizona within two runs. The three hits matched Marte's total from the prior six games combined, though the long ball was his sixth in his last 19 games. |

Sep 12 2021 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went deep off Erik Swanson in the seventh inning to extend the Diamondbacks' lead to three runs. He extended his on-base streak to nine games, even though he is batting just .194 in that stretch. The 27-year-old is slashing .320/.380/.524 with 11 long balls, 42 RBI and 43 runs scored in 304 plate appearances. Despite playing in just 73 games this season, he is tied for the most home runs on the team. |
Sep 5 2021 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Saturday's loss to the Mariners. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's fourth-inning long ball tied the game 5-5, though it proved to be Arizona's final run in the loss. The 27-year-old has hit a modest 10 homers this season, but six of those have come over his past 20 games, during which he is also slashing .312/.376/.636 with 16 RBI. |
Sep 2 2021 | Marte went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of Marte's hits went for singles. He began a six-run third inning with a base hit to left and came around to score from first off a double from Pavin Smith. The 27-year-old later led off the eighth with another base knock and eventually came home on a bases-loaded walk. Marte has logged a hit in 12 of his last 13 games and 18 of his last 21. He has been one of baseball's more productive hitters when healthy but has missed a bunch of time in 2021 with multiple injuries. He now stands at a .344/.395/.549 slash line with 31 extra-base hits, 38 RBI, 38 runs scored, a steal and 19:42 BB:K over 266 plate appearances. |
Aug 31 2021 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a grand slam home run in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Prior to Marte's blast, the Diamondbacks floundered on offense and in the field, which prompted a lecture from manager Torey Lovullo. The manager doesn't need to lecture Marte, whose homer extended his hit streak to 11 games, during which he's 15-for-40 (.375) with four home runs, three doubles and 12 RBI. Going back further, he's reached base safely in 19 consecutive contests. |
Aug 29 2021 | Marte started in center field and went 1-for-4 in Saturday's 7-0 loss to Philadelphia | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte made his first start since leaving Thursday's game with a hip injury. He entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter then played four innings at second base. It was uncertain if Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo would continue to use Marte in center field -- having his primary position be second base has often been a discussion topic among the team's decision makers -- but it looks like he'll continue on in center. |
Aug 28 2021 | Marte (hip) entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter and played four innings at second base in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to Philadelphia. He went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic prior to the game that Marte's hip injury was not serious, adding that Marte would be available off the bench Friday. Marte is expected to start Saturday. It's interesting that Marte played second base, and not his usual home in center field. That could be due to the circumstances of the game, or perhaps the Diamondbacks want the oft-injured Marte playing a less stressful position. After the Diamondbacks waived Asdrubal Cabrera, at-bats are available at second and third base, though the team may want to give more regular infield work to players like Josh Rojas, Josh VanMeter and Drew Ellis. |
Aug 27 2021 | Marte (hip) isn't starting Friday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was removed from Thursday's game due to right hip discomfort, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench. Jake McCarthy will take his place in center field and bat seventh. |
Aug 26 2021 | Marte exited Thursday's game against the Phillies with right hip discomfort. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not clear how Marte suffered the injury, or if he's expected miss extended time. Marte was sidelined over two months with a pair of hamstring injuries earlier this season, so the team may opt to rest him regularly even if he avoids a serious issue. |
Aug 24 2021 | Marte is not starting Tuesday against Pittsburgh. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte enters the day with a hot bat, having gone 8-for-16 with three doubles, a homer and four RBI across the last four games. He'll get a rest Tuesday as Daulton Varsho mans center field. |
Aug 21 2021 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a walk in a loss to the Rockies on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte connected on the only homer of the night for Arizona in the fourth inning, drilling a 402-foot shot to right field. The long ball was only the second in his past 33 contests in what has been another season of limited power following Marte's 32-homer season in 2019. The lack of long balls and significant missed time due to injury have limited Marte's fantasy appeal this season despite a standout .342 batting average. |
Aug 19 2021 | Marte isn't starting Thursday's game against the Phillies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had drawn starts in each of the last nine games, but he'll get a breather after he went 2-for-11 with a triple, a run and an RBI across his last three appearances. Daulton Varsho will start in center field and bat fifth. |
Aug 14 2021 | Marte went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte doubled off Joe Musgrove and knocked in Josh VanMeter in the first inning. In addition, he scored late in the frame. The 27-year-old is slashing .348/.395/.527 with five long balls, 25 RBI and 30 runs scored in 199 plate appearances. Over his last five games, he is batting .348 with three RBI and four runs. |
Aug 7 2021 | Marte isn't starting Saturday's game against San Diego, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started in each of the last three games, and he went 3-for-12 with a double, an RBI and a walk. Josh VanMeter will start at second base while Pavin Smith takes over in center field. |
Aug 3 2021 | Marte is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started both of the previous two games after being reinstated from the injured list Saturday. Despite logging three hits and scoring two runs across his last nine at-bats, he'll return to the bench against Johnny Cueto on Tuesday. |
Aug 2 2021 | Marte started in center field and went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 13-0 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was activated off the injured list Saturday but did not appear in a game until Sunday's blowout loss to Los Angeles. He was the lone member of the starting lineup with a batting average higher than .259. |
Aug 1 2021 | Marte, who was activated off the injured list Saturday, did not play in an 8-3 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's odd that Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo left Marte on the bench after he was activated, then didn't use him as a pinch hitter later in the game, instead opting for Josh Reddick. Presumably, when he does re-enter the starting lineup, Marte will be the center fielder. |
Jul 31 2021 | Marte (hamstring) was activated off the injured list Saturday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte missed just over a month with a strained left hamstring. He went hitless in three rehab games but is nonetheless considered ready to go. Andrew Young was optioned in a corresponding move. |
Jul 28 2021 | Marte (hamstring) went 0-for-2 with a walk for the Arizona Complex League D-backs on Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who has been on the injured list since June 27, initiated a rehab assignment Tuesday, playing five innings in center field and getting three plate appearances. He had been scheduled to begin the assignment Monday, but instead he got seven at-bats in a "B" game at the team's training complex. It's unclear how many at-bats the club wants Marte to get while on assignment. |
Jul 26 2021 | Marte (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who took five at-bats in a simulated game at Chase Field on the Saturday, had missed taking at-bats at the team's complex due to weather. He's recently begun taking grounders and appears ready to ramp up running activity this week. |
Jul 25 2021 | Marte (hamstring) was moved from the team's training complex to Chase Field to take at-bats against live pitching, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Weather at the complex has put a hold on Marte's at-bats, so the Diamondbacks moved him to be with the team in Phoenix where he'll get in more work. Marte will remain in town and perhaps get at-bats in the Arizona Complex League. |
Jul 21 2021 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Marte (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which showed he is "near a full resolution." | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: To celebrate the promising news, Marte took three live at-bats later in the day. The next step for the injured outfielder is to ramp up his running activity. "He looks very powerful," Lovullo said. "I think he's very close to making some turns on the basepaths." Marte could potentially return by the end of July. |
Jul 20 2021 | Marte (hamstring) had been scheduled for an MRI on Monday, but it has been pushed back to Tuesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Apparently, the MRI machine was not working properly, so the procedure was pushed back a day. The Diamondbacks are anxious to see the state of his hamstring before determining his next steps. Marte has hit in the batter's box, executed some forward movements, and taken grounders. |
Jul 3 2021 | Marte (hamstring) took at-bats in a live batting practice session Friday but did not run out of the batter's box, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who was placed on the injured list earlier in the week, is trying to stay sharp while recovering from his second IL stay due to balky hamstrings. |
Jun 28 2021 | Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Monday, retroactive to June 27. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte underwent imaging Monday after he aggravated his hamstring injury Saturday, and he's been diagnosed with a strain. It's not yet clear when the 27-year-old will be cleared to return to game action, but Tim Locastro and Pavin Smith could see increased time in center field in his absence. |
Jun 27 2021 | Marte will undergo imaging on his hamstring Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte aggravated his hamstring injury Saturday following a two-game absence, and he was held out of the lineup Sunday. The 27-year-old didn't appear off the bench, and his tests Monday could help determine the extent of his injury. |
Jun 26 2021 | Marte exited Saturday's game against the Padres in the first inning after appearing to aggravate the hamstring issue that sidelined him for the previous two games, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Josh Reddick replaced him as a pinch runner. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte initially tweaked his hamstring during Tuesday's game against Milwaukee. He did not play Wednesday or Friday, but felt good enough to give it a go Saturday. The outfielder singled in his first-inning at-bat, so he likely aggravated his hamstring while running to first base. The Diamondbacks figure to provide additional updates later Saturday. |
Jun 25 2021 | Manager Torey Lovullo said that Marte (hamstring) ran the bases Friday and is available off the bench for Friday's game against the Padres, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is absent from the starting nine for the second straight game after he exited Tuesday's game against the Brewers with left hamstring tightness. Given that he's available off the bench Friday, he figures to have a good chance of returning to the lineup Saturday. |
Jun 23 2021 | Marte (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks' decision to keep Marte on the bench for the day game after a night game comes as little surprise after a tight left hamstring forced his removal in the first inning of Tuesday's 5-0 loss. Manager Torey Lovullo labeled Marte as day-to-day after the contest, but that doesn't necessarily mean the 27-year-old is out of the woods as far as avoiding a trip to the injured list. The Diamondbacks will presumably check back in with Marte following Thursday's team off day before determining his availability for the three-game weekend series in San Diego. |
Jun 22 2021 | Marte was removed from Tuesday's game versus Milwaukee with left hamstring tightness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte suffered the injury while rounding first base after hitting a double during the first inning. The 27-year-old missed a month earlier this season due to a strained right hamstring, and he's now managing an injury to the same muscle on his other leg. |
Jun 20 2021 | Marte went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, two RBI and a walk in Sunday's 9-8 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte doubled and scored in both the fourth and six innings and came up twice in the eighth, walking and recording a two-RBI single. This was his fifth straight game with a hit and although he only has four home runs, Marte's batting a robust .357 with a .404 on base. |
Jun 17 2021 | Marte is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte gets a rest despite the fact that he's recorded three multi-hit games in his last four contests. Pavin Smith will be the center fielder in his absence. |
Jun 14 2021 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte got on base three times, but to no avail, as nothing came out of the chances. He's slashing .321/.372/.449 with two home runs, nine RBI, 11 runs scored and a 7:14 BB:K in 22 games since returning from the injured list in mid-May. He's been an exception in what has otherwise been a disastrous season for the Diamondbacks as he's kept up his solid play despite the team only having won twice since he was reinstated. |
Jun 12 2021 | Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte sits after grabbing just one hit in his last three games, a poor stretch which followed an excellent one in which he posted a 1.136 OPS over 10 games. Pavin Smith will be the center fielder in his absence. |
Jun 7 2021 | Marte went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Milwaukee. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks may be in a free fall, but Marte's offense isn't. The 27-year-old infielder/outfielder extended a hit streak to seven games, during which he's 15-for-30 with five extra-base hits, six RBI and six runs. The offense has been good, but Marte's defense in center field has slipped, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "It's not necessarily closing in on the ball or moving full speed, it's the first moves to the baseball, the angles to the baseball," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. "Those are things we feel he could do a little better job with." Marte is near the bottom of the league among center fielders in defensive runs saved and ultimate zone rating. He already qualifies at second base this season, but he's yet to earn a start at the keystone in 2021. If the declining defense moves him to second base going forward, then fantasy managers can eke out another year of middle infield flexibility from Marte next season. |
Jun 4 2021 | Marte will sit Friday against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will sit for the fourth time in 16 games since his return from a hamstring injury in mid-May. He struggled initially upon his return but has been on fire over his last five games, going 11-for-21 with a pair of homers, two doubles and just a single strikeout. Pavin Smith will handle center field in his absence. |
Jun 2 2021 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Mets. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte got Arizona on the board with his first-inning homer. The 27-year-old has hit safely in eight of the last nine games, going 12-for-35 (.343) with two homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored in that span. That's in line with his season numbers -- he's slashing .347/.390/.587 across 82 plate appearances overall. |
May 31 2021 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a second run scored in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is dialing in his swing after missing six weeks with a hamstring injury. Sunday's long ball was his first since returning to the active roster May 19, and the outfielder is 7-for-23 (.304) with five RBI and five runs over the last six games. |
May 28 2021 | Marte isn't starting Friday's game against the Cardinals. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will get a breather after he went 4-for-13 with two runs, an RBI and a walk across the last three games. Tim Locastro will start in center field and bat eighth. |
May 22 2021 | Marte is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It appears to be a regular day of rest for Marte, who has gone 2-for-10 since coming off the injured list. The 27-year-old was an offensive force, albeit in a small sample size, before suffering the hamstring injury and will be one of his team's most valuable contributors once he gets back in the swing of things. |
May 21 2021 | Marte started in center field, batted second and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was activated off the injured list Wednesday and started Thursday for the first time since injuring his hamstring April 7. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo is expected to slow-walk Marte's return initially -- evidenced by having him in the two-hole instead of his customary leadoff spot -- so expect rest days during the first week or so before he resumes an everyday role in center field. |
May 19 2021 | Marte (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list but isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old has been sidelined since April 7 with a strained hamstring, and he won't immediately rejoin the lineup upon his activation from the injured list. Marte should be back in the starting nine within a day or two, while Tim Locastro receives the start Wednesday in center field. |
May 16 2021 | Marte (hamstring) will join Triple-A Reno for a rehab assignment Monday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old has been playing in rehab games at the alternate training site but will progress to minor-league contests this week. Marte has been sidelined since early April with a hamstring strain, but he appears to be on the cusp of returning from the injured list. |
May 13 2021 | Marte (hamstring) will play center field in a four-inning simulated game Friday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had hoped that he'd be able to begin a rehab assignment Thursday or Friday, but he'll instead see game action in a sim game. If his appearance in the simulated game goes well, the 27-year-old could begin a rehab assignment in the near future. |
May 11 2021 | Marte (hamstring) hopes to begin a rehab assignment Thursday or Friday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old has been on the shelf for over a month with the hamstring strain, so it's not much of a surprise he'll head to the minors to get back up to game speed before being activated. Marte could return sometime next week if he does begin the rehab stint Thursday or Friday. |
May 10 2021 | Marte (hamstring) will rejoin the Diamondbacks for an assessment Monday or Tuesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The purpose of the evaluation is to determine how close Marte is to beginning a potential minor league rehabilitation assignment. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo is "strongly in favor" of Marte playing games in the minors prior to returning from the injured list. Marte has been out since April 7. |
May 8 2021 | Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Marte (hamstring) is "very close" to beginning a rehab assignment, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte is currently at the alternate training facility at Salt River Fields and has performed running drills. At this point, he's mostly running straight ahead with "some arcs and some curves and some change of direction." |
May 5 2021 | Marte (hamstring) will begin taking at-bats during games at Arizona's alternate site, NIck Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The plan is to have Marte lightly jog out of the batter's box before ramping up his intensity. Manager Torey Lovullo did not have an update on where Marte was in his running progression. |
Apr 27 2021 | Marte (hamstring) had a recent follow-up MRI that "showed healing," Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As has been the case since he first got injured, there hasn't been much in the way of detail regarding the severity of Marte's hamstring injury or a timetable for his return, but things at least seem to be moving in the right direction. He took live batting practice last week. |
Apr 21 2021 | Marte (hamstring) will participate in a live batting practice session Wednesday, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte resumed some baseball activity over the weekend, and he'll take another step in his recovery process Wednesday. It's not yet clear when the 27-year-old will be cleared to return to game action, but a better idea of his return timetable could come into focus after his live batting practice. |
Apr 17 2021 | Marte (hamstring) did light running, played catch and hit off a tee Friday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was the first return to anything resembling baseball activity for Marte, who has been sidelined by a sore right hamstring since April 7. He's eligible to return Sunday, but it appears his absence will extend into next week. |
Apr 16 2021 | Marte (hamstring) continues to get treatment and has not yet begun baseball activities, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte, who is on his feet and doing light movement, is eligible to come off the injured list April 18, but it's unlikely he'll return by then. Tim Locastro will continue to be the primary fill-in at center field. |
Apr 8 2021 | Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain Thursday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte pulled up while running to first base in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies, and he'll miss additional time as a result. He'll undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the injury, but Tim Locastro should serve as the primary center fielder while Marte is sidelined. Andrew Young was recalled from the taxi squad in a corresponding move to serve as outfield depth. |
Apr 7 2021 | Marte exited Wednesday's game at Colorado with an apparent right hamstring injury, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old pulled up and appeared to grab at his right hamstring during the sixth inning, and he was subsequently helped off the field by training staff. Marte entered Wednesday's contest 12-for-23 with two homers and four doubles through five games, and it would be an enormous loss for the Diamondbacks should he be forced to miss time. |
Apr 3 2021 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double in a loss to the Padres on Friday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte supplied both of the Diamondbacks' runs in the loss, taking Craig Stammen deep for a two-run blast in the seventh inning. Through two games, the center fielder has collected six hits in 10 at-bats, going deep twice and driving in three. |
Mar 29 2021 | Marte (illness) is back in the lineup Monday against the Cubs, leading off and playing center field, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was scratched Sunday with a non-COVID illness, but it was evidently a minor issue. There's little reason to fear for his readiness for Opening Day. |
Mar 28 2021 | Marte was scratched from Sunday's Cactus League lineup with a non-COVID illness, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old was slated to start in center field and bat leadoff, but he'll instead receive the day off. The specifics of the situation remain unclear, but it's unlikely to affect Marte's availability for Opening Day. |
Mar 25 2021 | Marte went 1-for-1 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's spring game against Cleveland. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte went deep for the third time this spring, leading off the bottom half of the first inning -- the sixth time in 13 games that he's batted leadoff. He's also made six starts as the second batter in the order. Marte appears poised to return to his 2019 form, having gone 12-for-34 with five doubles, three home runs, six RBI, five walks and 11 runs scored this spring. Additionally, per David Adler of MLB.com, Marte's tied with Giancarlo Stanton for the spring lead with five balls having left his bat at 110 mph or higher. |
Mar 19 2021 | Marte (ankle) is starting in center field and batting leadoff in Friday's spring game against the Brewers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old exited Tuesday's matchup with the A's due to soreness in his left ankle, but he's ready to retake the field Friday. Marte seems likely to open the season as the starter in center field but could also see time at the keystone. |
Mar 16 2021 | Marte was pulled from Tuesday's spring game against the Athletics due to left ankle soreness, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old apparently rolled his ankle while running the bases Tuesday, though manager Torey Lovullo indicated it's not a serious concern. Marte should be considered day-to-day, but at this point it doesn't appear his status for Opening Day should be affected by the injury. |
Mar 15 2021 | According to manager Torey Luvullo, Marte is "fine" after being struck by a pitch on his right foot during Monday's spring game against Seattle, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was lifted from the exhibition after getting hit by the pitch, but it appears this move was only precautionary. The Diamondbacks will likely proceed with caution over the next few days with their starting center fielder, however. |
Mar 14 2021 | Marte started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's spring game against San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte led off the game with his first Cactus League homer and has hit safely in six of seven games played. The Diamondbacks have not confirmed which position will be Marte's primary spot this season, but Saturday's outing was his fourth start in center field compared to one at second base and two as designated hitter. |
Mar 1 2021 | Marte started at second base, batted leadoff and went 1-for-2 with a run scored in Sunday's spring game against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's position has been the subject of much discussion thus far in camp, and he's expected to see time at both second base and center field. It's unclear if he'll bat leadoff this season, but he will occupy a spot near the top of the order. Last season, he led off 16 games and batted second 29 times. |
Feb 28 2021 | Marte has been fielding grounders at shortstop early in camp, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Nick Ahmed is entrenched at shortstop, but manager Torey Lovullo wants to determine who will back up at shortstop when Ahmed is off. Marte has appeared in 270 games at shortstop in the majors, so this is not about seeing if he can handle the position but rather if others can't handle the job. Other backup candidates to Ahmed include Josh Rojas and Andy Young. Marte is expected to see most of his time at second base or center field this season. |
Feb 19 2021 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo and general manager Mike Hazen have discussed lineup permutations depending on what position Marte plays, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks envision the flexibility Marte affords them, bouncing between center field and second base, but the decision-makers want to get the player's input first. "The luxury it affords us is that it allows us to be even more creative with how we feel we're putting the best eight hitters on the field on a given day," Hazen said. "The downside to that is what impact does that have on Ketel, because he's always the guy who has to make the adjustment." If outfielder Tim Locastro or catcher/outfielder Daulton Varsho have good springs, Marte could play second base; if infielders competing for a spot -- Josh Rojas, Josh VanMeter, Asdrubal Cabrera, Wyatt Mathisen or Andy Young -- impress this spring, then Marte could make center field his primary spot. But it all starts with Marte buying into such an arrangement. |
Feb 13 2021 | Marte could see most of his time in center field in 2021 after the Diamondbacks signed Asdrubal Cabrera, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks appear to view the switch-hitting Cabrera as a third baseman, who could force Eduardo Escobar to second base on days when he starts. The domino effect of that is Marte moving off second to center field, where he primarily played in 2019. Marte played 41 of 45 games in 2020 at second base. |

Sep 27 2020 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a double, two-run single and sacrifice fly in Sunday's 11-3 win over the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte extended Arizona's lead to 7-0 in the sixth and picked up two more RBI with a single an inning later. Though he logged a solid .287 batting average, Marte saw his power production drop off substantially this season. After swatting 32 homers and driving in 92 runs in 2019, Marte hit just two long balls while tallying 17 RBI across 181 at-bats during the shortened campaign. |
Sep 25 2020 | Marte isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Rockies. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will retreat to the bench after going 1-for-3 with one walk in the first game of the twin bill. Josh VanMeter will take over at second base. |
Sep 23 2020 | Marte will be in the starting lineup Wednesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was activated Tuesday after a stay on the injured list due to wrist inflammation and played second base in win over the Rangers. After Wednesday's game, the team will evaluate how he's feeling physically and whether he will play any innings in center field. The Diamondbacks are off Thursday before finishing off the season with four games against the Rockies, including a doubleheader Friday. |
Sep 22 2020 | Marte (wrist) went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Rangers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte hit a single in the fifth inning but couldn't come around to score. He played seven innings on defense before Josh VanMeter replaced him at second base in the blowout win. Marte has two homers, 14 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base in 41 contests. |
Sep 18 2020 | Marte (wriste) will take batting practice Saturday and has a shot to return during the final week of the season, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's required 10 days on the injured list with left wrist inflammation elapsed Friday, though it looks like he still needs a few more days to heal. When exactly the Diamondbacks expect to activate him remains unclear. |
Sep 16 2020 | Marte (wrist) hit off a tee for the first time since being placed on the injured list, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Arizona manager Torey Lovullo is optimistic Marte will return before the end of the season, although the Diamondbacks have just 11 games left. The organization must decide whether or not it's worth having Marte return to play regularly instead of evaluating its prospects during a season going nowhere. |
Sep 9 2020 | Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation Wednesday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear exactly how Marte sustained the injury, but he'll be sidelined at least 10 days as a result. While the severity of the injury isn't known, Tim Locastro and Daulton Varsho could see an uptick in playing time in center field. Marte was slashing .290/.324/.407 with two home runs and 14 RBI this season. |
Sep 6 2020 | Marte is not in Sunday's lineup against the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte will get a day off for the second time in the past four games. Tim Locastro will take a turn in the starting lineup, hitting first while manning center field. |
Sep 5 2020 | Marte went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 6-5 win over the Giants. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Diamondbacks offense has struggled for much of the season, and Marte's bat has been particularly quiet. Friday's home run was his first in 30 games, part of his most explosive game of the season. It was one of the few times in 2020 that Marte resembled the player that had a .981 OPS and 32 home runs in 2019. |
Sep 3 2020 | Marte is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now that the Diamondbacks have thrown in the towel on the season, we could see Marte get a maintenance day here and there to give the team's prospects more opportunities to show what they can do down the stretch. Tim Locastro will get the start in center field while leading off against lefty Clayton Kershaw. |
Sep 2 2020 | Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Marte and rookie Daulton Varsho will share center field after the team traded Starling Marte, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Varsho got the start Tuesday, but Lovullo said Marte will move from second base to the outfield as well. He spent most of his breakout 2019 campaign as a center fielder. Tim Locastro will also be in the center-field mix. |
Aug 28 2020 | Marte went 2-for-3 a double and two runs scored in Friday's win over San Francisco. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte continues to produce at a steady rate and has been one of the most consistent hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup. The star second baseman is hitting .309 with eight doubles, eight RBI and 11 runs scored in 97 at-bats this month. |
Aug 21 2020 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double in Thursday's loss against Oakland. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte notched his seventh double of the season off Sean Manaea, and he also pushed his hitting streak to five games -- he has delivered multi-hit outings in four of those contests. Marte has been one of the most productive hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup in 2020, slashing .343/.361/.441 with a .802 OPS in 108 plate appearances across 25 games. |
Aug 20 2020 | Marte returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Oakland. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a rest day Tuesday, Marte rapped out multiple hits for the 11th time in 24 games and raised his average to .337. That's higher than the mark he posted during his breakout 2019 season, but Marte's power is down -- just one home run and a .429 slugging percentage. Pitchers are attacking him differently, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, who notes Marte is seeing fewer fastballs over the plate and more on the edge. This has contributed to a reduction in barrels. Last year, when Marte slugged .592 and launched 32 home runs, he barreled up 9.3 percent of his batted balls. That has fallen to 3.6 percent in 2020. |
Aug 18 2020 | Marte will hit the bench for the first time this season Tuesday against Oakland, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has made excellent contact in recent games, hitting .387 over his last seven contests. Eduardo Escobar will slide to second base Tuesday, with Jake Lamb starting at third. |
Aug 17 2020 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte failed to extend his RBI streak Sunday but did steal his first base in 22 games. He swiped 10 bags in 144 games during his breakout 2019 season. The hot-hitting second baseman is 11-for-26 with six RBI over the last six games. Marte is a fixture atop the order, batting either leadoff or second in every game. |
Aug 16 2020 | Marte went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Saturday's win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte has driven in a run in each of his last five games, a span in which he's hitting .409 with a .940 OPS. Marte has been seeing the ball well all year long, and he is currently hitting .321 with a .717 OPS, seven RBI and eight runs scored in 53 August at-bats. |
Aug 10 2020 | Marte went 4-for-6 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored in a 12-8 win over Colorado on Monday. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte scored three runs in the first four innings and later drove in an insurance run in the ninth. The 26-year-old switch-hitter has just four RBI this season but owns a .333/.347/.449 slash line. |
Aug 5 2020 | Marte went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 14-7 win over the Astros. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's biggest contributions came in the fourth inning. In his first at-bat of the inning, he hit a leadoff single and scored on a Kole Calhoun inside-the-park homer. Marte then doubled home Stephen Vogt before scoring on a Calhoun single for the eighth of nine Arizona runs in the rally. The 26-year-old Marte has a homer, three RBI, six runs scored and a .319 batting average in 12 games this season. |
Aug 1 2020 | Marte started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte started at second base the first seven games before moving to shortstop Friday. The regular starter at short, the slumping Nick Ahmed, was given an off day. Marte's one of the few Diamondbacks making consistent contact to start the season. He's hit in seven of the first eight games, including multiple hits in four of them, with four extra-base hits and a slash line of .344/.371/.531. |
Jul 30 2020 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to the Dodgers. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte found his stride early with a leadoff single in the first inning, then got the Diamondbacks on the board by swatting an opposite field home run off Ross Stripling in the third. It was the first long ball of the season for the 26-year-old, who enjoyed a breakout 2019 campaign that included 32 homers and a .329 average across 144 games. |
Jul 26 2020 | Marte went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte scored the tying run in the eighth inning after getting aboard with a walk. In the ninth, his sacrifice fly put the Diamondbacks ahead. Marte has gone 4-for-11 with a pair of doubles in the first three games of 2020. Serving as the leadoff hitter will likely suppress his RBI count, but he gets on base frequently enough (.389 OBP in 2019, .342 career) to make up for that in runs scored. |
Jul 14 2020 | Marte belted a pair of home runs during Monday's intrasquad game, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte tagged Merrill Kelly in the first inning, then got to him again later. "I'm not surprised by what he's doing," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "He's locked in right now. It's what every hitter looks to get to." He hit well in spring training and has continued to rake in camp. Marte terrorized pitchers in 2019, smacking 32 home runs with a .263 ISO. |
Jul 7 2020 | Marte went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run during an intra-squad game Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte opened summer camp much like spring training when he homered in his first at-bat of the Cactus League. He could move around defensively but is expected to make second base his primary home. |
Jun 25 2020 | Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo talked about using the designated hitter position as a way to keep Marte's bat in the lineup while giving him a break in the field, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte had a breakout season in 2019 before he suffered a stress reaction in his back in September. The theory was that he played too much, particularly in center field, which was a new position to him. "It will give me a chance to get guys off their feet," Lovullo said of the DH. "Knowing the workload is going to be pretty heavy and we're going to be going full throttle, getting a guy off his feet for a day game in Colorado is probably something we would be addressing." The manager had every intention of giving Marte more downtime in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to MLB. The desire to rest him is still there during the 60-game sprint of a regular season. Only now, the rest will be in the form of having Marte serve as the DH. Others being considered for the DH rotation are Jake Lamb, Christian Walker, Eduardo Escobar and Kevin Cron. |
Mar 20 2020 | Marte showed no effect from last season's back injury during a productive spring. He batted .375 (9-for-24) with four extra-base hits, three runs scored and four RBI over nine Cactus League games. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's breakout 2019 season ended prematurely in September when a stress reaction in his back ended his campaign. It was an injury the Diamondbacks felt was brought on by him playing center field, a more active position than second base, his primary diamond home until last season. He showed no residual effects of the injury during the spring when he homered in his first at-bat and didn't stop hitting. Marte will move back to the less stressful second base in 2020. The switch-hitter bounced between leadoff and second in the order during the Cactus League, switching up with the newly acquired Starling Marte. |
Feb 24 2020 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-3 spring win over Oakland. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte wasted little time, jumping on a mistake from Athletics right-hander Chris Bassitt during his first spring at-bat. Marte, who had a breakout campaign in 2019, started at second base in Arizona's first Cactus League game. That's likely the position he'll occupy most frequently in 2020 after the Diamondbacks acquired Starling Marte to man center field. Ketel Marte led the Diamondbacks in 2019 with 96 starts in center. |
Jan 29 2020 | The Diamondbacks could have Ketel Marte (back) primarily play second base after the team acquired center fielder Sterling Marte from the Pirates, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ketel Marte, who shuttled between second base and center field in 2019, appeared in a career-high 92 games in the outfield before sustaining a back injury late in the season. The Diamondbacks believe the extra activity involved in being a center fielder contributed to the injury, so the acquisition of Sterling Marte gives manager Torey Lovullo the flexibility to have Ketel Marte play a less stressful position. |
Jan 12 2020 | Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said Marte (back) may be the everyday center fielder in 2020, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Hazen has actively pursued a center fielder during the offseason without success. "I would imagine that would put Ketel a little bit more squarely in center field, but we still have a ways to go and we still have some opportunities to explore," Hazen said. "But I would say we're probably moving more in that direction by the day." The Diamondbacks will proceed cautiously with Marte, who had a breakout 2019 season but suffered a stress reaction in his back. One theory is that Marte, an infielder by trade, sustained the injury partially due to the extra running involved in playing center field. That, coupled with increased baserunning opportunities -- Marte had a career-high .389 on-base percentage -- are seen as contributing factors. Marte played 96 games in center field last season, and Hazen added the organization has not established a threshold of a number of games it would be comfortable with him playing there this coming season. |
Sep 20 2019 | Marte has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his back and will be shut down for the rest of the season, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte was removed from Tuesday's matchup due to a stiff back, and the team announced prior to Friday's clash that the outfielder is done for the year. He won't require surgery and is expected to be ready to roll for the start of spring training, per Piecoro. Jarrod Dyson figures to see time in center field with Marte out of commission. |
Sep 19 2019 | Marte believes the added running that comes with playing center field has been a contributor to his current back discomfort, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: At first, Marte talked about how the new artificial turf at Chase Field "took a toll on me," echoing similar comments earlier this season from fellow outfielders Adam Jones and David Peralta. When reporters pressed on with follow-up inquiries, Marte walked back the comments, instead saying the increased running that comes with playing the outfield for the first time in his career was a possible source of back pain. "I feel like next year, when I'm more used to playing center and I have all that experience under my belt, then my body will be more conditioned to play the outfield," he said. Marte has started 92 games in center field in 2019. |
Sep 18 2019 | Marte is dealing with lower-back inflammation and will get a CT scan Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He had an MRI Wednesday and will undergo further testing. With the Diamondbacks essentially out of the playoff mix, it would not be surprising if Marte did not return this season. We should learn more before this weekend's series against the Padres. |
Sep 17 2019 | Marte left Tuesday's game against the Marlins in the fifth inning due to back stiffness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He went 2-for-2 with a double and a run prior to being replaced by Josh Rojas. This is not the first time Marte has dealt with back issues this season, so hopefully he is able to continue to manage the issue without being shut down before the end of the season. |
Sep 9 2019 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's sixth-inning blast gave the Diamondbacks a lead the bullpen would later give away. He has four homers and 14 RBI over the last six games. Marte has hit safely in his last 18 starts, posting a .427/,469/.853 slash line with eight home runs and 23 RBI dating back to Aug. 14. |
Sep 6 2019 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk in Friday's win over the Reds. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte's homer, his 31st of the season, gave his team a two-run lead in the fifth inning. He's been on a tear at the plate over the last four games, going 11-for-17 with three homers and 11 RBI over that stretch. |
Sep 4 2019 | Marte started in center field and went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 win over San Diego. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Marte made his first start in the outfield since missing time with a hamstring injury. He had started at second base the previous two games before slotting into center field, an indication the hamstring is no longer a bother. |
Sep 4 2019 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Padres. | ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: During a scoreless game in the bottom of the seventh, Marte came up to bat with the bases loaded and crushed a 411-foot grand slam off Luis Perdomo. It was the second grand slam of Marte's career and his 30th long ball of the season. The 25-year-old has been scorching hot, tallying eight hits and eight RBI over the three-game series with San Diego. |
Sep 2 2019 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBI in Monday's 14-7 win over | the Padres. |

Jul 22 2018 | Marte is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rockies. | Marte will cede duties at the keystone to Daniel Descalso in the series finale. The 24-year-old switch hitter was one of the Diamondbacks' more productive bats through the first two games of the series, going a combined 5-for-8 with a triple, walk, stolen base, four RBI and two runs. |
Jul 21 2018 | Marte went 2-for-3 and a walk with two runs scored Saturday against the Rockies. | Marte recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game and has been productive in the weekend set against the Rockies, knocking in four and scoring twice in two games. Despite hitting well since the start of June, Marte frequently bats in the bottom third of the Diamondbacks lineup, holding back his potential to post standout counting stats. |
Jul 21 2018 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBI and a steal in Arizona's 11-10 win over Colorado on Friday. | Marte doesn't post gaudy numbers on the same level of some of the league's big-name shortstops, but he's quietly putting together a respectable campaign, as he's now posted a .736 OPS to go along with nine homers and a National League-leading nine triples through 329 at-bats. The nine long balls are already a career high, and he's on pace to stroke 17 if he can maintain his current clip through the second half of the season. |
Jul 14 2018 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in the Diamondbacks' win over the Braves. | The infielder popped a big fly off Sean Newcomb into the left-center-field bleachers during the sixth inning for his ninth of the season. Marte has typically fared better against lefties this year (.299/.364/.564 through Friday, compared to .205/.269/.330) and caught a struggling southpaw at the right time. Marte might have a solid second half as a deep-mixed-league fantasy middle infielder, at least in platoon situations. |
Jul 13 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup against Atlanta on Friday. | Marte will receive a day off following four straight starts as Daniel Descalso gets the nod at second base for the series opener. After a blistering start to the month of June, Marte is hitting just .217/.319/.417 since June 22. |
Jul 9 2018 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a double, two walks and a run scored in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 loss to the Padres on Sunday in 16 innings. | After a tough series against the Cardinals earlier in the week, Marte rebounded in swift fashion during the four-game set against the Padres. He started three of those contests and went a collective 5-for-12 with a pair of home runs, two doubles and four walks. Marte has looked like a completely different player since the beginning of June, slashing .298/.357/.632 while smacking seven of his eight home runs of the season during the last month and change. |
Jul 7 2018 | Marte hit a pinch-hit solo home run in Saturday's win over the Padres. | Marte capped off a historic night for the Diamondbacks, bringing their total to 20 runs (a club record) with his eight homer of the season. Seven of his eight home runs have come since June 1 -- he had just one long ball in his first 52 games of the season. Marte should continue to start close to every day between second base and shortstop. |
Jul 7 2018 | Marte is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres. | Marte will hit the bench after starting the last four games and going 2-for-14 in that stretch. Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth for the Diamondbacks on Saturday. |
Jul 5 2018 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Padres. | Marte bounced back from two consecutive hitless performances by driving his seventh home run of the season over the left field wall in the eighth inning. He was one of the few Diamondbacks who was able to muster anything at the plate Thursday, though this was only his second multi-hit game since June 22. After hitting very well in the first half of June, Marte has come back to earth of late, hitting just .222/.239/.378 over the past 15 days. |
Jul 3 2018 | Marte (hamstring) will start at second base and bat sixth against the Cardinals on Tuesday. | Marte was able to come in as a defensive replacement during Monday's game and went 1-for-2 after being left out of the starting lineup due to a right hamstring cramp. Across 80 games this year, he's hit .247/.299/.413 with six home runs, 31 RBI and two stolen bases. |
Jul 2 2018 | Marte (hamstring) is out of the lineup against the Cardinals on Monday, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports. | Marte will remain on the bench for a second straight contest after suffering a right hamstring cramp during Saturday's outing. In his place, Daniel Descalso will man the keystone and bat sixth. Consider Marte day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's game. |
Jul 1 2018 | Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Marte wouldn't start Sunday's game against the Giants after suffering a right hamstring cramp in Saturday's 7-0 loss, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | Marte felt his hamstring act up while he was running out an infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning. He was checked on by the team trainer and was able to walk off the field under his own power after the play, with the diagnosis of a cramp amounting to good news for the infielder. Lovullo said that Marte would be evaluated prior to Sunday's contest and could be available off the bench. |
Jun 30 2018 | Marte left Saturday's game after appearing to favor his right leg or hamstring following an infield single, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | The infielder walked off the field under his own power accompanied by a trainer, but he went down in pain after crossing first base. Expect the Diamondbacks to provide an update on Marte in the near future. |
Jun 28 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup against the Marlins on Thursday. | Marte will take a seat in favor of Daniel Descalso after going 1-for-4 with a double and one run scored during Wednesday's contest. Look for Marte to rejoin the starting nine Friday versus San Francisco. |
Jun 23 2018 | Marte is out of the lineup against Pittsburgh on Saturday. | Marte will receive a breather following six straight starts as Daniel Descalso gets the nod at second base and Nick Ahmed at shortstop for Saturday's tilt. Through 20 games in June, Marte is hitting .324/.373/.706 with five home runs and 18 RBI. |
Jun 21 2018 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three runs scored in a 9-3 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday. | Marte set a career high last year with five home runs, and he now has five this June alone and six on the season. He's racked up 17 RBI and a .339 (17-for-62) average this month while striking out just nine times and walking six. Even with the strong run, he's still slashing just .246/.302/.418 this season. |
Jun 19 2018 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Monday in the Diamondbacks' 7-4 win over the Angels. | The long ball was Marte's fifth of 2018, matching the career-high total he supplied last season. Four of those homers have come in June, with Marte rebounding from a wretched first two months of the campaign to rediscover the emerging power he flashed in the second half of 2017. In addition to the four homers, Marte has added eight more extra-base hits this month, making him an appealing pickup for fantasy owners looking to wring more power out of their middle-infield spots. |
Jun 15 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets. | Marte has found his groove after a rough first two months of the season, and is batting .385/.421/.808 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 57 plate appearances over his last 16 games. Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat fifth for the Diamondbacks, but don't expect Marte to be out of the lineup for long given his recent production. |
Jun 13 2018 | Marte went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks. | Marte was productive in all four plate appearances, notching a triple, single, walk and sacrifice fly. The 24-year-old got off to a slow start, but he's now hitting .400 in June and has been even hotter of late. In the last three games, Marte's hitting 6-for-11 with three extra-base hits, a steal and six RBI. |
Jun 10 2018 | Marte was held out of the Diamondbacks lineup during Saturday's 12-7 win over the Rockies due in part to a tender right shoulder, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. "Maybe created some tenderness in his right shoulder," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said of Marte, who initially got banged up after sliding awkwardly into third base June 3 against the Marlins. "He could play. He's available off the bench. I just want to get him ahead of it instead of playing even. We're trying to nurse him through this situation right now." | As Lovullo suggested, Marte was available off the bench and ended up entering the contest as a pinch hitter, going 0-for-2 on the evening. Marte's exit from the lineup opened up a spot in the middle infield for the struggling Nick Ahmed, who came through with one of his best games of the season (3-for-5, one home run, two doubles, three RBI). Ahmed's performance Saturday as well as the recent hot hitting of Daniel Descalso could result in the Diamondbacks deploying a rotation in the middle infield, though Marte should see plenty of playing time thanks to his own strong form at the dish of late. Each of Marte's last nine hits have gone for extra bases, with the 24-year-old submitting a 1.226 OPS in his last 10 games heading into Saturday. |
Jun 10 2018 | Marte went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Rockies. | Marte fell a triple short of the cycle in this impressive performance, which was highlighted by his fourth home run of the season. While he has been disappointing through 223 at-bats this season -- he has just one stolen base -- he is 11-for-33 across his last 10 games and also has three home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs scored in that span. |
Jun 9 2018 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a double, walk and two runs Friday in the Diamondbacks' 9-4 win over the Rockies. | The power production is beginning to tick up steadily for Marte, whose two-bagger in the series opener was his 10th extra-base hit in as many games. The hot-hitting Daniel Descalso has made a case for regular playing time at second base against right-handed pitching, but Marte's ability to play the other middle-infield spot should continue to create a path for him in the lineup. Nick Ahmed, who is hitting .200 over his last 15 games, hit the bench Friday to make room for Marte at shortstop. |
Jun 9 2018 | Marte is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies. | Marte will head to the bench Saturday as Daniel Descalso earns the starting nod at second base. The 24-year-old Marte struggled with a .207 average and .576 OPS in May, but has responded through the first seven games of June, going 8-for-22 with eight extra-base hits, sevens runs and six RBI. |
Jun 6 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup versus San Francisco on Wednesday. | Marte will head to the bench after starting the first two games of this series while Daniel Descalso gets the nod at second base. Over the past eight contests, Marte is hitting .370/.393/.926 with nine extra base hits and eight RBI. |
Jun 4 2018 | Marte went 2-for-2 with a triple, double, RBI and run scored Sunday in the Diamondbacks' 6-1 win over the Marlins. | Though he didn't start Sunday's contest, Marte made a big impact off the bench and has now compiled seven extra-base hits in his last six games. That represents more than 40 percent of Marte's total for the season, with the 24-year-old maintaining a lowly .299 slugging percentage prior to the recent power binge. Before reverting to a groundball-heavy batting profile in the first two months of the current campaign, Marte demonstrated growth as a slugger in the second half of the 2017 season, so there's at least some precedent for his performance over the last week. Fantasy players in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues in search of middle-infield help could do worse than rolling the dice on Marte while he seems to have unlocked more power. |
Jun 3 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup Sunday against the Marlins. | Marte, who has six hits in his last 17 at-bats and has notched five RBI in his last five starts, will make his way to the bench in favor of Daniel Descalso at second base. Expect to see Marte back in the lineup Monday in San Francisco. |
Jun 2 2018 | Marte went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's win over the Marlins. | Marte clubbed a home run off lefty Jarlin Garcia in the fifth, and then hit another solo shot -- his third of the year -- off righty Brad Ziegler in the eighth. It was Marte's first multi-homer game of his big-league career, and he now has 15 RBI and 19 runs scored to go along with 14 extra-base hits. |
May 29 2018 | Marte went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the Diamondbacks' 12-5 triumph over the Reds on Monday. | Marte was out of the starting lineup Monday, but that didn't prevent him from posting his first multi-hit game since May 13. Despite the strong showing Monday, Marte is still hitting just .217 over the Diamondbacks' last seven games and hasn't resembled the player that looked like a cornerstone infielder in the second half of 2017. His OPS is down 149 points from the season before, putting Marte at risk of surrendering his everyday role. |
May 28 2018 | Marte is out of Monday's lineup against the Reds. | He is hitting just .195/.287/.260 with zero home runs and one steal in 77 May at-bats. Daniel Descalso is starting at second base and hitting cleanup against righty Homer Bailey. |
May 26 2018 | Marte was removed in Friday's 7-1 win over the Athletics after his right hand rolled up underneath him while he slid into third base on his ninth-inning triple, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | Marte's triple scored Paul Goldschmidt and boosted Arizona's lead to six runs, so manager Torey Lovullo decided it wasn't worth it to keep the infielder in the contest with the outcome essentially already decided. Lovullo said afterward that Marte checked out fine in a post-game examination and would be back in the lineup Saturday. |
May 20 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. | We may see this more often in the days and weeks ahead with Jake Lamb supplanting Daniel Descalso at third base. Descalso has been one of the team's most consistent hitters to this point, so he will continue to play, seemingly at Marte's expense. Marte is batting just .218/.317/.273 in May. |
May 14 2018 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs Sunday in the Diamondbacks' 6-4 loss to the Nationals. | Marte is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, but he has a long way to go before his season batting line returns to a respectable level. Through 157 plate appearances, Marte is slashing .228/.287/.324, with the average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage all representing the worst marks of his career. Marte could be at risk of losing playing time at the keystone to utility men Daniel Descalso or Chris Owings once Jake Lamb (shoulder, elbow) is activated from the 10-day disabled list and reinstalled as the Diamondbacks' primary third baseman. |
May 11 2018 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored the Diamondbacks' only run in the club's 2-1 loss to the Nationals in 11 innings Thursday. | Marte has recorded three base hits in his past two games following an 0-for-11 stretch in the three contests prior to that, but the second baseman is still slashing a meager .216/.281/.299 across 146 plate appearances. With his OPS down 160 points from a season ago, Marte has been a major disappointment thus far and could end up ceding starts at second base to Daniel Descalso once Jake Lamb (shoulder, elbow) is activated from the 10-day disabled list later this month. |
May 4 2018 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI, run and a stolen base in the Diamondbacks' 5-2 loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. | Marte was the Diamondbacks' most productive hitter on the afternoon, but he'll probably need to cluster together several solid performances before recapturing his old role as the club's No. 2 hitter, which has fallen to Nick Ahmed of late. A career-worst .250 BABIP has contributed to Marte's sickly .224 average, but with his groundball rate sitting at 62.4 percent, it's difficult to see the 24-year-old's batting line climbing significantly until he adjusts his approach at the plate. Perhaps more troubling than Marte's low average and lack of power is that he hasn't been active as a base stealer, despite ranking in the 86th percentile in sprint speed in 2018, per Baseball Savant. The stolen base Marte collected Thursday was just his fourth (on five attempts) across 379 plate appearances with the DIamondbacks the last two seasons. |
May 4 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup Friday against the Astros. | Despite his 2-for-3 showing Thursday, Marte is hitting just .190 over the past seven games. As such, he'll head to the bench for a night off Friday, allowing Chris Owings to pick up a start at the keystone in his stead. |
Apr 30 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers. | Marte, who is hitting just .224/.259/.327 through 26 games this season, will head to the bench for what appears to be a regular day off after starting each of the previous three games at second base. In his place, Chris Owings will man the keystone and hit sixth. |
Apr 28 2018 | Marte went hitless across four at-bats in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 win over the Nationals on Friday. | Marte was riding a three-game hitting streak heading into the series opener, but a weak .232/.270/.347 season line prompted manager Torey Lovullo to drop the second baseman from second to sixth in the batting order. It was only the third time all season that Marte hit outside of the two hole, and it appears he may have to get used to batting in the bottom half of the order until he displays better on-base skills. The switch-hitting Marte could still have a shot at batting second against left-handed pitching, as the lefty-hitting Jarrod Dyson, who batted second Friday against Nationals righty Stephen Strasburg, often sits against southpaws. |
Apr 26 2018 | Marte is out of the lineup against Arizona on Thursday. | Marte will retreat to the bench for a rare day off after starting the past 20 games. Over the entire 2018 season thus far, Marte is hitting .232/.270/.347 with one home run and eight RBI. Chris Owings will get the start at second base in his absence. |
Apr 20 2018 | Marte is hitting fifth Friday against the Padres, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports. | Marte has been a staple in the two-hole for much of the season, but he'll get moved down in the order after collecting just one hit in the past three games. It's unclear if this is a long-term switch or not, but if it is, this could hurt his run-scoring abilities and take away a few at-bats moving forward. |
Apr 20 2018 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Diamondbacks' 3-1 triumph over the Giants on Thursday. | Marte was riding a 10-game hitting streak coming into the Diamondbacks' homestand, but had gone 0-for-12 in the series before connecting on his first home run of the season in the seventh inning. After the brief drought at the plate, Marte's season batting line sits at an unremarkable .237/.266/.382 through 79 plate appearances, which may prompt manager Torey Lovullo to consider bumping the second baseman down from the No. 2 spot in the lineup. |
Apr 15 2018 | Marte went 1-for-4 with an RBI during Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. | Marte is having decent success through his first 15 games, slashing .270/.303/.397 with seven RBI and six extra-base hits. He'll look to extend his hitting streak to 10 games Tuesday as the Diamondbacks start a three-game bout with the Giants. |
Apr 14 2018 | Marte went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers. | Marte's hitting streak now stands at eight games, with the infielder having scored five runs over the past four contests. The Diamondbacks seem to have committed to Marte as their No. 2 hitter, so his run-scoring opportunities should remain plentiful while he slots in directly in front of A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt in most contests. |
Apr 12 2018 | Marte went 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of runs and an RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Giants. | Marte entered the series finale riding a six-game hit streak, but with no multi-hit efforts mixed into those contests, he had managed just a .240 average during that span. He managed to break out Wednesday, reaching base three times while scoring more than one run in a game for the first time all season. Manager Torey Lovullo appears to have settled on Marte as the club's No. 2 hitter against both right- and left-handers, so more run-scoring opportunities should come so long as he continues to get on base at a respectable clip. |
Apr 8 2018 | Marte went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 4-1 win over St. Louis. | Marte has notched a hit in each of his past four games, although he's slashing just .211/.231/.342 through his first nine games played. His numbers figure to go up once he notches more at-bats. Marte finished the 2017 season batting .260 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 73 games. |
Apr 3 2018 | Marte went 3-for-7 with a pair of triples, a run and an RBI in Monday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers in 15 innings. | Marte did most of his damage early in the contest, recording the triples in back-to-back at-bats in the third and fourth inning off Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. Perhaps more notable than Marte's solid showing at the plate was the fact that he was deployed in the two hole for the second time this season in which the Diamondbacks have opposed a left-handed starter. Look for Marte to again occupy prime real estate in the lineup Tuesday when the Diamondbacks face southpaw Clayton Kershaw. |
Mar 31 2018 | Marte is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rockies. | Marte started the opening two games of the season at second base, going 1-for-8 with three strikeouts. Daniel Descalso will start at second Saturday in Marte's place. |
Mar 30 2018 | Marte was ejected during the sixth inning of Friday's game against the Rockies, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. | Marte slammed his bat on the ground after taking a called third strike and was promptly tossed from the game. The 24-year-old was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts prior to the ejection, but the incident didn't seem likely to be worthy of a suspension. |
Mar 26 2018 | Marte and the Diamondbacks agreed to an extension Monday, Robert Murray of FanRagSports.com reports. | The extension is for five years and $24 million and includes two option years worth a total of $22 million, bringing the potential total value to 7 years and $46 million. The extension demonstrates the team's commitment to Marte, who appears to be in line for an everyday second base role. The 24-year-old has a .265/.319/.361 slash line in 249 career games, with eight homers and 22 steals. His fantasy appeal is limited by his lack of power, though he makes a lot of hard contact on the ground and could be in line for a breakout if some of those hard grounders become hard fly balls. |
Mar 21 2018 | Marte was deployed as the starting second baseman and No. 6 hitter in Tuesday's 6-5 exhibition loss to the Angels in what could be a preview of the Diamondbacks' Opening Day lineup, Owen Perkins of MLB.com reports. | Following his promotion to the big leagues in late June, Marte secured a starting gig and ran with it, finishing the 2017 campaign with a strong .260/.345/.395 line across 255 plate appearances. While Marte wasn't as aggressive on the bases as he had been in the past, stealing just three bags in four attempts, he showed more power than expected, racking up 17 extra-base hits in less than a half season of work. Don't expect Marte to see his involvement pick up dramatically in the run game based on his projected spot in the bottom half of the order, but his full-time role should make him a serviceable source of counting stats from the middle infield. |
Mar 6 2018 | Marte appears to be in line to open the year as the Diamondbacks' primary second baseman and backup shortstop, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. | The Diamondbacks appear inclined to favor defense to offense, which is why Nick Ahmed is the frontrunner to be the primary shortstop, while Chris Owings and Daniel Descalso appear poised to serve as utility options. Marte was a plus defender at shortstop last season, so he figures to be one of the game's best defensive second basemen. He has the speed to be more of a threat on the bases than he was last year (13 stolen-base attempts between Triple-A and MLB), and a lot of his fantasy value hinges on him being more aggressive in that regard. Marte is a good bet to improve on the .260 average he posted last season -- most projection systems have him hitting above .280. While he posted a .514 slugging percentage in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, it's unlikely that he reaches double-digit home runs, even with a full season's worth of MLB at-bats. |
Feb 20 2018 | Marte is in the mix for a starting role in the middle infield, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | The 24-year-old emerged as a decent offensive option last season, batting .260 in 73 games with the big-league club. His speed also gives him an edge as he works toward garnering the starting shortstop job for Opening Day. Nick Ahmed (wrist), Brandon Drury and Chris Owings (finger) are also in the mix for playing time up the middle, but Marte likely has a higher ceiling given his combination of youth, speed and on-base skills. |
Oct 5 2017 | Marte (hamstring) went 3-for-5 with two triples, a run and an RBI in the Diamondbacks' 11-8 win over the Rockies on Wednesday in the National League wild-card game. | Though a hamstring injury forced Marte to exit early in the Diamondbacks' regular-season finale against the Royals on Sunday, a couple days off before the wild-card game was all he needed to heal up. Marte then came up big in the first playoff game of his career, becoming the first player in MLB postseason history to triple twice in the same game since 1993. With Chris Owings (finger) still on the mend and not expected to join the active roster for the Diamondbacks' divisional series matchup with the Dodgers, it's expected that Marte will be in store for a full slate for starts at shortstop. |
Oct 4 2017 | Marte (hamstring) is batting second while playing shortstop for Wednesday's wild-card game against Colorado. | Marte has been dealing with hamstring tightness for the past couple days after leaving Sunday's game in the sixth inning due to the injury. He appears to be good enough to play, and was optimistic about his chances to be in the lineup all week. Over the last five games, Marte is 5-for-16 (.313 average) with two extra-base hits and two RBI. |
Oct 2 2017 | Marte said he's optimistic about playing Wednesday against the Rockies, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | Marte was forced out of Sunday's regular-season finale with a hamstring injury, though he doesn't appear to be too worried about the issue. While he admitted he's still dealing with some tightness, Marte believes he'll be good to go for Wednesday's wild-card game after a couple of off days. If that's not the case, Adam Rosales would likely draw the start at shortstop in his place. |
Oct 1 2017 | Marte left Sunday's game in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | The severity and specific nature of Marte's injury is unclear, which puts his availability for the D-backs' upcoming Wild Card Game matchup with Colorado in question. Chris Herrmann replaced him as a pinch-runner during the sixth inning. |
Oct 1 2017 | Marte is day-to-day with left hamstring tightness after leaving Sunday's game in the sixth inning following an infield single, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | With two days off before the NL Wild Card Game against the Rockies on Wednesday, Marte has a chance of recovering in time to play. Since the calendar flipped to September, Marte has started 22 of the D-backs' final 28 games as the team's primary shortstop. |
Sep 27 2017 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, walk, two RBI and a run in Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Giants. | Marte's slugging percentage has taken a significant hit over the last few weeks, but the infielder may have regained the faith of fantasy owners by producing two extra-base hits Wednesday, matching his total from his previous 15 contests combined. He collected both of his RBI on a fifth-inning triple, helping the Diamondbacks retain their advantage after the Giants scored their first two runs of the game in the top half of the frame. .Though the Diamondbacks' spot in the playoffs is secure, Marte and the team's other lineup mainstays aren't expected to be rested frequently during the club's final four games of the regular season, as manager Torey Lovullo likely wants to keep everyone sharp for next week's wild-card matchup with either the Rockies, Brewers or Cardinals. |
Sep 25 2017 | Marte is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. | The Diamondbacks are resting their starters after clinching home-field advantage for the wild-card game, so Marte will head to the bench as Kris Negron draws the start at shortstop. |
Sep 23 2017 | Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins. | Marte will head to the bench for a breather after starting five straight games for the Diamondbacks, going 5-for-19 over that stretch. Adam Rosales will start at shortstop and bat eighth in his place. |
Sep 23 2017 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double, walk and a run scored in Friday's 13-11 win over the Marlins. | Marte has churned out a.270/.352/.365 batting line in September while chipping in 12 runs and two steals in 18 games, offering the Diamondbacks quality production while serving as the team's starting shortstop. Though Marte's power numbers have dipped since the All-Star break, his solid on-base skills and capable glove should lock him into an everyday role the rest of the way. |
Sep 21 2017 | Marte went 1-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Padres. | Though he collected his 15th extra-base hit in 64 games, Marte's power production has tapered off dramatically in recent weeks. He's delivered a home run and a pair of doubles over his last 91 at-bats, slashing a meager .220/.301/.275 over that span. Due to his strong defense up the middle along with a lack of attractive alternatives, Marte's starting role still looks to be secure, though that could change heading into the postseason if Chris Owings (finger) proves healthy once he's activated from the 60-day disabled list Sept. 29. |
Sep 18 2017 | Marte went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Giants. | Marte's production has lagged over the last few games, but he's still sporting a tremendous .283/.377/.370 line in September while walking more times (seven) than he's struck out (six). Chris Owings (finger) is on track to return from the 60-day disabled list when first eligible Sept. 29, but Owings' long layoff coupled with Marte's success as a replacement in the middle infield should be enough to lock Marte into a starting role heading into the postseason. |
Sep 10 2017 | Marte went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Padres. | Marte has recorded hits in eight of his last nine games, with multi-hit efforts in the past three contests boosting his season average to .284. Though he's continuing to reach base at a steady clip, Marte hasn't been looking to run as often as expected, stealing just two bags on three attempts in 54 games. Even so, the impact Marte provides in the average and runs categories -- not to mention his burgeoning power -- should be enough to make him a useful lineup cog in NL-only and most deeper mixed-league formats. |
Sep 10 2017 | Marte is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres. | Marte has picked up two hits in three consecutive games and scored four runs in that time. However, despite his tremendous display of hitting, the Diamondbacks will start Adam Rosales at shortstop and give Marte the day off. |
Sep 4 2017 | Marte is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers. | Despite knocking a solo homer in Sunday's win over the Rockies, Marte will head to the bench for a breather with southpaw Rich Hill taking the mound for the Dodgers. Kris Negron will start at shortstop in his stead. |
Sep 4 2017 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Rockies. | Though the home run was Marte's first since July 29, he hasn't seen his slugging percentage dip much as a result, as his .429 mark is still far and away a career best. Fantasy owners were probably expecting more stolen-base production from Marte since he's settled into an everyday role, but with a .265 average, five home runs and 20 runs in 168 plate appearances this season, the shortstop produces enough all-around value to warrant a roster spot in most deeper mixed leagues. |
Sep 3 2017 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Rockies. | With catcher Chris Iannetta receiving the day off, Marte moved into the two hole and was able to do his part in sparking the lineup, coming around to score on both of J.D. Martinez's hits on the night. Marte has previously been serving as the Diamondbacks' seventh or eighth hitter when most of the team's regulars are in the lineup, so his run-scoring opportunities will most likely diminish in subsequent contests. |
Sep 1 2017 | Marte is not in Friday's starting nine against Arizona, Fox Sports Arizona's Jody Jackson reports. | Marte will retreat to the bench following two straight starts. In his place, Adam Rosales gets the nod at short, while batting eighth in the order. |
Aug 30 2017 | Marte (hamstring) is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. | Marte missed the past two games while dealing with a hamstring issue, but returns to his typical spot at short and in the seventh spot of the order for Wednesday's affair. Over the course of Marte's last eight appearances, he's hitting just 2-for-24 (.083 average) after going on a tear to start the month. |
Aug 29 2017 | Marte (hamstring) will start at shortstop and bat eighth Tuesday against the Dodgers. | Marte had sat out Sunday's series finale against the Giants with the tight left hamstring, but after the team's off day Monday, it appears he'll be on tap for a full slate of starts in the middle infield this week. The Diamondbacks have mostly received solid offensive contributions from Marte since he settled into a full-time role in late July, but his production had dipped prior to the injury. The 23-year-old enters play Tuesday riding a 2-for-24 cold streak at the dish. |
Aug 29 2017 | Manager Torey Lovullo said there is no new issue with Marte's hamstring, but he was removed from Tuesday's lineup just to give him an extra day to get right before getting him back in the mix, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | He was a late scratch, as Lovullo said he probably jumped the gun on getting Marte back in the lineup. Everything points toward Marte returning Wednesday, but he will likely have to test the hamstring again before that is finalized. Adam Rosales is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth. |
Aug 29 2017 | Marte was scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup. | Adam Rosales is now slated to man shortstop and bat eighth against lefty Rich Hill. A reason for Marte's removal was not immediately provided, but he is presumably still dealing with tightness in his hamstring. Marte left Saturday's game with a left hamstring issue and he was held out of Sunday's series finale. |
Aug 27 2017 | Marte (hamstring) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Giants. | Marte was pulled from Saturday's game after being dealt with a hamstring injury. There's yet to be any word pertaining to the severity of the ailment, but additional information should be available soon. With Marte out Sunday, the Diamondbacks are starting Adam Rosales at shortstop. |
Aug 26 2017 | Marte left Saturday's game with left hamstring tightness. | He was lifted after flying out to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Adam Rosales shifting over to shortstop and Daniel Descalso entering the game at third base. The Diamondbacks are off Monday, so they may opt to wait and see how Marte feels after a couple days of rest before making any DL decisions. |
Aug 25 2017 | Marte went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and an RBI in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Mets. | Marte plated the Diamondbacks' second run of the afternoon on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly, giving him his first RBI in nine starts. Perhaps more surprising than Marte's extended run-producing drought was the fact that the stolen base he collected earlier in the contest was his first of the season, as the 23-year-old had been a regular threat to run during the minors and in his debut campaign of 2015 with the Mariners. Though he's not quite as active on the bases as he used to be, Marte has at least traded the lack of steals for more power, which has allowed him to settle into an everyday role with the Diamondbacks. Marte's .779 OPS on the campaign is 101 points above his career mark. |
Aug 20 2017 | Marte is out of Sunday's lineup against the Twins. | After going hitless in his last two games, Marte takes a seat in favor of Adam Rosales, who will play shortstop and hit ninth. Marte is hitting .320/.404/.420 over hi last 50 at-bats, and should continue to get the bulk of the starts at shortstop. |
Aug 15 2017 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 2-0 win over the Astros. | Marte saw his 10-game hitting streak came to an end of the weekend, but he's still been red hot since returning from the bereavement list Aug. 4, churning out a .355/.459/.452. The 23-year-old should be locked into a full-time role for the rest of the season with Chris Owings (finger) unlikely to come off the disabled list until late September at the earliest, making him a worthy pickup for fantasy owners in need of a middle infielder with some batting average and speed upside. |
Aug 10 2017 | Marte went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and two RBI in Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Dodgers. | Marte's damage came too little too late, as his two-run single in the eighth inning cut the deficit to two runs but his team would get no closer. Arizona's everyday shortstop in the absence of Chris Owings (finger) has put any doubts about his ability to do the job to rest, as he has three multi-hit efforts in the past four games and is now riding a 10-game hitting streak to boot. |
Aug 9 2017 | Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Tuesday that Marte would serve as the Diamondbacks' primary shortstop for the foreseeable future with Chris Owings (finger) expected to be sidelined until at least late September, Kevin Zimmerman of ArizonaSports.com reports. | After Marte started at shortstop in the last three games following his return from the bereavement list, it was fairly evident that he was viewed as the primary option, but it's nice to see his manager verify as much. The Diamondbacks addressed their dwindling middle-infield depth by acquired Adam Rosales from the Athletics, but neither he nor Nick Ahmed (hand), who could be activated from the 60-day DL in late August, are likely to pose serious threats to Marte's starting role. On the heels of back-to-back two-hit performances, Marte is slashing a commendable .270/.337/.500 over 83 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks on the season. |
Aug 7 2017 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Giants. | Making his second straight start since being reinstated from the bereavement list, Marte was the only Diamondbacks starter to finish with multiple hits. Though the Diamondbacks acquired Adam Rosales from the Athletics prior to the trade deadline to provide another option at shortstop with Chris Owings (finger) at risk of missing the rest of the season, Marte is expected to retain a full-time role at the position so long as he's able to hold his own offensively. Marte has been able to do that so far this season, turning in a career-high .829 OPS through 79 plate appearances. |
Aug 4 2017 | Marte was reinstated from the bereavement list prior to Friday's game against the Giants. | Marte missed three games following the passing of his mother, and returns to the team in San Francisco for the series opener. With Chris Owings (finger) on the disabled list, expect Marte to earn a bulk of the starts at shortstop moving forward. |
Jul 31 2017 | Marte is expected to be placed on the bereavement list following the death of his mother, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. | This is tragic news, and Marte is headed back to the Dominican Republic to be with his family during this difficult time. Emilio Bonifacio was added on a minor-league deal and could temporarily fill in at shortstop with Marte out, though the Diamondbacks could ultimately look to add another infielder via trade given Chris Owings is also out with a fractured finger. |
Jul 31 2017 | Marte (personal) was placed on the bereavement list Monday. | As expected, Marte will head away from the team for up to three days to attend to the death of his mother. A corresponding move is expected to be made Tuesday. |
Jul 30 2017 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and two RBI in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Cardinals. | While Marte has been a below-average offensive contributor over his 68 plate appearances with the big club this season, he's started to come around since the All-Star break, providing a .265/.375/.588 line. The slugging percentage is particularly impressive for Marte, whose four home runs on the campaign are more than what he had supplied (three) with the Mariners over 713 plate appearances the last two seasons combined. The enhanced power coupled with strong defense at shortstop has allowed Marte to vault ahead of Brandon Drury on the depth chart in the middle infield. |
Jul 28 2017 | Marte went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Thursday's 4-0 win over the Cardinals. | Marte was making his fourth start in the last six games while Brandon Drury was on the bench for the fourth time during that span, suggesting that there may be a changing of the guard in the Diamondbacks infield. Drury has the superior offensive track record of the two players at the big-league level, but he's been in a tailspin at the dish since the beginning of June and doesn't offer as much defensive value as Marte, who has been playing shortstop lately. That has allowed Chris Owings to move over to the keystone, where he's less of a liability. With a .263/.307/.356 career line in the majors, Marte is unlikely to develop into a high-end fantasy asset while he's seeing regular at-bats, but he's shown some burgeoning pop this season and offers an impact as a base stealer. Those attributes, along with the shallow pool of talent at shortstop relative to other positions, might be enough for Marte to carry some value in NL-only or deeper mixed leagues. |
Jul 26 2017 | Marte doubled, homered and walked in a 2-for-4 effort against the Braves on Wednesday, driving in two runs and scoring two. | He came into this game hitting a brutal .196/.255/.370 with only a single multi-hit effort, which came more than three weeks ago, so this was a badly needed breakout performance for the 23-year-old infielder. However, we'll need to see more before he can be recommended even in NL-only formats, as Marte is stuck in a utility role. |
Jul 23 2017 | Marte will start at third base and bat second Sunday against the Nationals. | Due to J.D. Martinez (hand) still recovering from injury and manager Torey Lovullo opting to rest some established regulars over the last few days, Marte has seen more at-bats of late, with Sunday marking his fourth consecutive start. Marte's placement in the No. 2 spot is a new development, however, as he had hit seventh in the preceding three contests. The cushy landing spot ahead of the red-hot David Peralta and MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt would normally give Marte appeal as a low-cost DFS option, but a tough matchup with Stephen Strasburg could make it difficult for the infielder to get much going offensively. |
Jul 20 2017 | Marte went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Reds. | The long ball, a two-run shot off Ariel Hernandez in the ninth, was Marte's second in 16 games since he recall. Thursday's start was just Marte's second since the All-Star break, and with sporadic playing time, Marte's appeal is limited mostly to daily and NL-only formats. |
Jul 7 2017 | Marte went 1-for-2 with a solo home run -- his first of the season -- in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers. | Marte's 440-foot blast to left field gave the Diamondbacks a two-run lead in the top of the eighth inning, but closer Fernando Rodney was unable to finish off the job as the Dodgers were able to secure a series sweep. The slap-hitting Marte shouldn't be counted on for power production with any sort of regularity, but his speed, contact skills and ability to play multiple infield spots should afford him a few starts per week while he maintains a spot on the 25-man roster. |
Jul 3 2017 | Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk-off RBI single in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. | Marte was making his second start with the Diamondbacks since his June 28 promotion and carried his weight in the eight hole, finishing as one of only two players on the team with multiple hits. Though he held down an impressive .338/.391/.514 slash line at Triple-A Reno prior to being called up, Marte is unlikely to see consistent at-bats unless either of the Diamondbacks' regular middle infielders (Chris Owings and Brandon Drury) succumbs to an injury. |
Jun 28 2017 | Marte was promoted to the big leagues Wednesday, prior to Arizona's game against the Cardinals. | In an expected move, Marte earns the call-up with Nick Ahmed heading to the disabled list with a fracture in his hand. Marte should get some time in the infield during his stay with the Diamondbacks, but will play second fiddle to Brandon Drury and Chris Owings at both middle infield positions. |
Jun 6 2017 | Marte is hitting .381/.418/.555 with four home runs and seven stolen bases across 251 plate appearances at Triple-A Reno this season. | A .410 BABIP aided by the friendly hitting confines of the Pacific Coast League is surely propping up Marte's batting line, but even after accounting for the offensive environment, it's hard not to be impressed with the 23-year-old's numbers. Marte's speed and slap-hitting skills have always allowed him to maintain high batting averages in the minors, but he's also been able to tap into more power than ever this season. Twenty-seven of his 90 hits have gone for extra bases, and he's smacked home runs in three of his last five games, including one off rehabbing Mets starter Steven Matz (elbow). Marte is doing everything necessary to make his case for a promotion, but unfortunately, his services aren't needed with middle infielders Chris Owings, Brandon Drury and Nick Ahmed all performing well for the big club. |
May 9 2017 | Marte is slashing .414/.460/.539 and has gone 6-for-7 on stolen-base attempt across 139 plate appearances with Triple-A Reno this season. | Marte was optioned to the minors out of spring training after the Diamondbacks decided to proceed with Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed as their two shortstops coming out of the spring. With at least one base hit in 27 of his 29 games at Reno, Marte has looked unchallenged at the Pacific Coast League and figures to be first in line for a promotion if the Diamondbacks are in need of additional infield depth at some point. Unfortunately for Marte, Owings has been one of the Diamondbacks' top bats this season with a strong .300/.342/.491 slash line of his own, so it's unlikely that Marte would receive regular at-bats once he ultimately returns to the big leagues. |
Mar 25 2017 | Marte flew out in his only at-bat in Saturday's spring training loss to the Angels. He's hitting .261 (12-for-46) this spring and remains in the shortstop competition with Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed. | Owings is hitting .409 and looks like the leading candidate for the starting job but a decision may not come until next week. If he can show signs of getting on base at a clip closer to his 2015 level in Seattle, Marte could become a threat to overtake Owings for the starting job at short at some point this season. |
Mar 11 2017 | Marte went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his first game back from an illness Saturday. | The 23-year-old returned from a four-day absence and went hitless against the Giants, dropping his average below the Mendoza Line on the spring (4-for-21). Marte's struggling bat isn't helping his case for either of the two middle-infield spots, which currently belong to Chris Owings and Brandon Drury. If he is able to get on base closer to his 2015 clip with Seattle (.351 OBP), he could start to challenge Owings for the starting job at some point this season. |
Mar 9 2017 | Marte was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to illness, the Arizona Republic reports. | All signs point to Marte beginning the season as a backup to Chris Owings and Brandon Drury at the two middle-infield spots. Through seven games this spring, Marte is 4-for-18 (.222) with a homer, four RBI and a 3:1 BB:K mark. If he can show signs of getting on base at a clip closer to his 2015 level in Seattle, Marte can become a threat to overtake Owings for the starting job at short at some point this season. |
Nov 23 2016 | Marte was traded along with Taijuan Walker to the Diamondbacks as part of a five-player trade Wednesday night. | Marte likely won't provide the Diamondbacks with flashy numbers at the plate, but he did steal double-digit bases in 119 games last season and hit .259/.287/.323. The Diamondbacks don't have any studs in the middle infield, so Marte could see some playing time with Jean Segura's (traded to Seattle) departure opening up second base in a more hitter-friendly environment. However, he doesn't own much power to take advantage of the situation. |
Oct 2 2016 | Marte is not in Sunday's lineup against Oakland, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | Over the last two games, Marte has gone 0-for-6 with two strikeouts. Shawn O'Malley will start at shortstop for Seattle's final game of the season while Marte heads to the bench. |
Sep 20 2016 | Marte is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports. | Marte is 3-for-19 over his last six games and 0-for-9 over his last three games. Shawn O'Malley will start at shortstop and bat ninth Tuesday. |
Sep 18 2016 | Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. | Marte has gone 0-for-6 over the last two games, so he'll get his first day off since September 8. With Marte out of the lineup, Shawn O'Malley will head to shortstop and hit ninth against Doug Fister and the Astros. |
Sep 8 2016 | Marte is not in the lineup Thursday against the Rangers, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte is only hitting .208 over his past seven games, so he'll head to the bench for a day off. Shawn O'Malley will take over at shortstop for the series finale with Texas. |
Sep 3 2016 | Marte had two hits and three RBI on Friday in a win against the Angels | Marte has picked it up recently, hitting .320 with a .346 OBP in his last 14 games, though he only has two extra-base hits (two doubles) in that span. Marte played well early in the season, but he hasn't gotten back to that level after a couple DL stints. The Mariners tried to acquire a shortstop at the trade deadline , and it wouldn't surprise if they tried again in the offseason. Marte likely needs a solid September to make his case for 2017. |
Aug 20 2016 | Marte hit a run-scoring double Friday in a 7-6 win against the Brewers. | It was the first sign of life Marte has shown since coming off the DL on Aug. 9. In eight games since, he has three hits and three walks in 33 plate appearances. Marte played well early in the year, hitting .276 with 12 extra-base hits and five steals in his first 40 games through May 21. But then he went to the DL for the first time and struggled when he returned before hitting the DL a second time in mid-July. The Mariners sought an upgrade at shorstop at the trade deadline and could still make a move at the position if Marte doesn't turn it around. |
Aug 18 2016 | Marte is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels. | Shawn O'Malley will get the start at shortstop for Thursday's series finale against the Angels, bumping Marte from the order. Marte has started turning things around at the dish over the last two weeks, slashing .385/.467/.731 in his last 26 at-bats. |
Aug 14 2016 | Marte is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. | Marte returned from mononucleosis last Tuesday and had started at shortstop in each of his first four games back, going 1-for-15 with a pair of walks and runs scored. In an effort to ease Marte back in a little bit, Mariners manager Scott Servais will rest his young shortstop during Sunday's matinee, enabling Shawn O'Malley to pick up a start at the position. |
Aug 9 2016 | Marte (illness) was activated from the 15-day DL on Tuesday. | Mike Freeman was optioned to clear a spot on the active roster for Marte, who ended up missing three weeks due to mononucleosis. Marte has failed to meet expectations so far this season after his strong run with the big club down the stretch last year -- he's batting .273/.299/.358 and hadn't stolen a base in well over a month before he hit the shelf. That said, he should continue on as the primary option at short now that he's healthy and perhaps see occasional opportunities in the leadoff spot. |
Aug 8 2016 | Marte (illness) is expected to play a full game at Triple-A Tacoma on Monday and may return to the Mariners on Tuesday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte has had a decent showing at the plate during his rehab assignment, having gone 3-for-10 with a home run. Upon his return, Marte is expected resume his duties as Seattle's everyday shortstop. |
Aug 1 2016 | Marte (illness) is expected to begin a brief rehab assignment Wednesday for Triple-A Tacoma, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte has sidelined since July 17 due to mono. While he should be able to return within a week or so, it's unclear how much strength he has lost to the illness. That said, neither Shawn O'Malley nor Luis Sardinas have set the world on fire in Marte's absence, so if he shows well in his rehab assignment, he should be able to work his way back into the starting lineup quickly. |
Jul 29 2016 | Marte (illness) has progressed to hitting in a cage and throwing, but it is unknown whether he will be ready to play when he comes off the DL on Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | Manager Scott Servais says that Marte is coming along better than expected and it appears the shortstop is well on his way to a full recovery. Nonetheless, expectations for his return should be tempered. The 22-year-old has lost a bit of strength from the mono and it's likely he will be eased back into the starting role when he comes back. Marte's bat is needed, Seattle shortstops are hitting just over .200 in his absence. |
Jul 29 2016 | Marte (mono) has progressed to hitting in a cage and throwing, but it is unknown whether he will be ready to play when he comes off the DL Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | Manager Scott Servais says that Marte is coming along better than expected and it appears the shortstop is well on his way to a full recovery. Nonetheless, expectations for his return should be tempered. The 22-year-old has lost a bit of strength from the illness and it's likely he will be eased back into the starting role when he comes back. Marte's bat is needed, Seattle shortstops are hitting just over .200 in his absence. |
Jul 26 2016 | Marte (illness) remains without a timetable to return from the 15-day disabled list, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | The young shortstop is battling a case of mono has lost a good bit of weight and strength as a result, according to Johns. With that, the Mariners will have to be patient and wait for Marte to get over the illness before he starts ramping up his activity. A return in early August looks more realistic for Marte than does a return when he's eligible to come off the DL on Friday. |
Jul 22 2016 | Marte (illness) was placed on the disabled list Friday with mono, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte didn't make the trip to Toronto with the team this weekend after losing some weight in the past couple days. He will miss some time recovering from the illness, while the team will let Shawn O'Malley and Luis Sardinas split time at short until he returns. |
Jul 21 2016 | Marte, who has missed the last three games with an illness, did not make the trip to Toronto for the Mariners' weekend series, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | "He's lost some weight, too, and that's a concerning thing," manager Scott Servais said. "His tonsils are really swollen. He is on antibiotics, and I hope that kicks in. But he is not feeling good." Luis Sardinas is expected to recalled prior to Friday's series opener. |
Jul 20 2016 | Marte (illness) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte will miss a third straight game Wednesday as he continues to battle an illness. The team has not provided much in the way of an update, but he should be considered day-to-day until further notice. Shawn O'Malley will start at short Wednesday and bat ninth. |
Jul 18 2016 | Marte is under the weather and out of Monday's lineup, Shannon Drayer of MyNorthwest.com reports. | Marte will see the team doctor and could potentially be available off the bench Monday if everything checks out. Expect him to return to the lineup as soon as he's feeling better. |
Jul 17 2016 | Marte (ankle) is a in the lineup at shortstop and batting ninth in the order Sunday against the Astros. | Marte suffered a mild ankle sprain in Friday's series opener and was forced to miss Saturday's game, but after testing out the injury in the field and during batting practice Sunday, he's been cleared to return. The fact that the Mariners are using Marte at his usual shortstop post rather than at DH suggests that the injury isn't compromising his lateral quickness too much. He'll likely be on tap for a full slate of starts this week. |
Jul 17 2016 | Marte, who was injured Friday for the second time this season while sliding into a base, will begin a training plan to learn a better sliding technique, the Tacoma News Tribune | Marte suffered a sprained right ankle sliding into third base. He missed 13 games earlier this season because of a sprained left thumb suffered on a slide at second base. The Mariners plan to work with him so he can slide more effectively. "We've got to tighten up Ketel's sliding," manager Scott Servais said. "It's an issue. His technique is poor. That's where the injuries have come from. If you're going to play every day in this league, you have to be able to do the fundamental things the game requires. Sliding is one of them." Marte's latest injury was mild, and he returned Sunday. |
Jul 16 2016 | Marte (ankle) is not in the lineup for Saturday's matchup with Houston, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | Marte exited Friday's game with an ankle sprain caused by a slide at third base and appears to need some time off to return to full health. It's unclear at this point whether he'll need a stay on the DL but in the meantime, Shawn O'Malley figures to see some fill-in starts at shortstop. |
Jul 15 2016 | Marte has been diagnosed with a mild ankle sprain, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. | It's not clear which ankle is bothering Marte, but he was forced to exit Friday's game after being injured sliding into third base with his right foot first. The "mild" designation indicates Marte's setback is not believe to be serious, so he should have a chance to return to action as soon as Saturday. |
Jul 15 2016 | Marte was removed from Friday's game with an apparent ankle injury, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports. | Marte was injured sliding into third base while trying to come up with a triple in the bottom of the third inning. The Mariners figure to provide an update once more is known about his status. Shawn O'Malley took over at shortstop following Marte's exit. |
Jul 2 2016 | Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles. | Shawn O'Malley will take over at short and bat ninth against right-hander Tyler Wilson, with Marte sitting following 22 consecutive starts. With a mere two walks since his return from the DL in early June, Marte's walk rate is down to 3.4 percent -- he's not getting on base enough to capitalize on his speed. |
Jun 22 2016 | Marte had three hits Tuesday, including his 13th double of the season, backing up a four-hit night Monday. | Marte, who doubled twice Monday, ranks third among AL shortstops in doubles. He also has 17 multi-hit games (7th). He has eight stolen bases, though he doesn't run that often -- five of those steals came in a three-game span in early June. Marte makes good contact but needs to walk more (3.5 percent walk rate), which would help his .310 OBP and give him more opportunities for stolen bases. He usually leads off against left-handers despite a .288 OBP vs. southpaws with two walks in 80 plate appearances. |
Jun 17 2016 | Marte will bat leadoff Friday against the Red Sox. | The 22-year-old will be atop the order for a third straight game with the Mariners set to face their third straight opposing left-hander in Roenis Elias. Marte has hit safely in seven of nine games since his return from the DL, adding three stolen bases. He's hit at the bottom of the lineup against right-handers. |

Jun 8 2016 | Marte (neck) is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians, batting eighth and playing shortstop. | Marte came down with some neck spasms prior to Tuesday's game and was eventually scratched from the lineup, but the dynamic young shortstop will be back in the order for Wednesday's matchup. His return bumps Shawn O'Malley back to a role coming off the bench, and provided that Marte can stay healthy moving forward, he should continue to see the bulk of the starts at shortstop. |
Jun 8 2016 | Marte (neck) expects to return to he lineup Wednesday evening against the Indians, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. | Marte was scratched late from Seattle's lineup on Tuesday due to neck spasms. Shawn O'Malley stepped into the lineup at shortstop while Marte rested. Manager Scott Servais could still choose to rest Marte another night, as the shortstop is also just coming off of a thumb injury that placed him on the 15-day disabled list, but Marte's optimism is a good sign that his neck injury isn't too severe. |
Jun 7 2016 | Marte was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to neck spasms. | Shawn O'Malley will step into the lineup at shortstop. Marte just made his return from a thumb injury Monday, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base in the loss to Cleveland. The extent of this setback is uncertain. |
Jun 6 2016 | Marte was officially activated from the disabled list Monday. | As expected, Marte will rejoin the active roster after completing a rehab assignment over the weekend. Marte didn't exactly light it up at the plate while on rehab, but his thumb is back at full strength, and he's expected to step back in as the Mariners' primary shortstop. To clear room on the 25-man roster, Seattle optioned Stefen Romero to Triple-A. |
Jun 5 2016 | Marte (thumb) will be activated from the disabled list Monday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | This was the plan all along for Marte, who kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma. Though he's batted just 4-for-20 in his five games with the minor-league squad, more importantly, he's experienced no setbacks with his thumb. Marte should immediately reclaim the starting shortstop job from Luis Sardinas upon rejoining the Mariners. |
May 31 2016 | Marte (thumb) will start his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte suffered a thumb sprain May 21 after he appeared to jam his hand while stealing a base against the Reds. The 22-year-old will return to game action with Tacoma on Tuesday and stay with the minor league club through Saturday. It appears that Seattle will then activate Marte next Monday assuming there are no setbacks during his five game rehab stint. |
May 28 2016 | Marte (thumb) is on track to begin a rehab assignment next week, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports. | Marte took batting practice Saturday and fielded ground balls, which puts him on pace to return to game action next week. Barring any setbacks during his rehab assignment, it appears he has a good chance to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible June 6. |
May 26 2016 | Marte (thumb) will likely resume baseball activities over the weekend, Jessamyn McIntyre of ESPN 710 reports. | The young shortstop had gotten into a groove at the plate before he suffered a thumb injury in Saturday's game against the Reds, which led to him landing on the DL. However, the expectation is that he'll be able to recover quickly, and that is certainly underlined by the fact that he'll resume baseball activities over the weekend. The earliest Marte will be able to be activated off the DL will be June 6 when the Mariners host the Indians. |
May 22 2016 | Marte (thumb) was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte suffered the thumb sprain Saturday, and although he was initially expected to miss a few games, a DL stint had not necessarily been in consideration. Now, the Mariners will make it official, calling up shortstop Chris Taylor to take his roster spot. While Taylor travels, the Mariners will award Shawn O'Malley the starting nod at shortstop Sunday. |
May 22 2016 | Marte (thumb) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, according to Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune. | Marte injured his thumb in Saturday's game in Cincinnati, and the setback is not initially believed to be serious. However, he will miss at least one game due to the setback, and sit out Sunday for the first time since April 20. Shawn O'Malley will get the start at shortstop in Marte's place. |
May 21 2016 | Marte exited Saturday's game with a sprained left thumb, but the Mariners have yet to announce the severity of the injury, Bob Dutton of The News Tribune reports. | Marte was replaced at shortstop by Shawn O'Malley in the fifth inning after he appeared to jam his hand while stealing second base in the top half of the frame. There's still no word on whether Marte will need to miss additional time beyond Saturday, but if he does, O'Malley would likely continue to serve as his replacement at shortstop. |
May 21 2016 | Marte (thumb) is only expected to miss a few games after injuring his thumb Saturday against the Reds, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. | X-rays have come back negative on Marte's thumb, so fortunately nothing is broke. He is still expected to miss a few games however, as the Mariners will likely be conservative. Shawn O'Malley should fill in for him at shortstop while he is out. |
May 10 2016 | Marte will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Rays. | Coming off a career game (4-for-5 with two doubles and a homer), the switch-hitting Marte will move atop the order against lefty Drew Smyly. It marks Marte's third time leading off this season. Nori Aoki now has a .460 OPS against same-handed pitching, but he has a .352 OBP against right-handed pitching and the Mariners have given no indication that a permanent change in the leadoff spot is coming. |
May 10 2016 | Marte (ankle) returned to the field Tuesday to hit in batting practice, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | He left the field with a trainer during batting practice after appearing to tweak his ankle, but it seems Marte's good to go. The 22-year-old is still penciled in atop the order for Seattle against Rays lefty Drew Smyly. |
May 10 2016 | Marte walked off the field with a trainer in the middle of Tuesday's batting practice, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. | The 22-year-old Marte is currently slated to lead off against lefty Drew Smyly, but he apparently tweaked his ankle during BP. While he walked off the field under his own power, the Mariners could always end up scratching him from the lineup if they have any reservations about his health. |
Jul 9 2015 | Marte was assigned to Double-A Jackson on Thursday, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. | Marte excelled at Triple-A Tacoma, hitting .343/.394/.434 with 17 steals in 51 games, but Seattle might have wanted him to return to a more friendly environment. His time in Double-A shouldn't be too long, it's likely the Mariners are waiting for him to feel truly 100 percent before they promote him back or possibly to the majors. |
Jun 23 2015 | Marte (thumb) is starting to work out in Arizona and is still targeting a mid-July return, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports. | Recent X-rays on his broken thumb were positive, so it sounds like everything is going according to plan in his recovery. Marte is one of the more underrated prospects in baseball, and might be the Mariners' shortstop of the future. That future might not be so far away, as it seemed like he could have forced his way to the big leagues sometime this summer had he not suffered the thumb injury. Marte has an excellent hit tool and approach at the plate. He was slashing .343/.394/.434 while striking out at just a nine percent clip in 51 games at Triple-A Tacoma to start the season. |
May 27 2015 | Marte, 21, is hitting .335/.387/.429 with two home runs and 14 steals in 201 plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma. | Despite not turning 22 until Oct. 12, Marte can boast a .328/.381/.435 slash line in 291 plate appearances with Tacoma dating back to last year. The quality of his hit tool is not up for debate at this point, and he happens to be a plus runner to boot. Marte should continue to push for a promotion all summer and will figure prominently in the Mariners plans for 2016. |
Nov 21 2014 | Marte was added to the Mariners' 40-man roster on Thursday. | Marte had a strong 2014 campaign playing for both Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma, slashing .313/.367/.450 with two homers for in Triple-A in 13 games. The 21-year-old could see time in the majors in 2015, but he'll likely start back in the minors. |
