Jun 29 2025Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly during Sunday's 6-4 extra-innings loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All three of Seager's RBI came in extra innings, as he swatted a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning and plated Kyle Higashioka on a sac fly in the 12th. Seager has homered in three consecutive games and boasts a five-game hit streak. During that five-game stretch, Seager is 6-for-18 (.333) with six runs scored and seven RBI.
Jun 28 2025Seager went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead in the third inning with a 420-foot homer, marking his first time going deep in consecutive games this season. The shortstop appears to be heating up, hitting safely in six of his past seven contests with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored. While he's slashing a modest .243/.342/.418 with nine long balls, 20 RBI, 25 runs scored and one stolen base across 198 plate appearances, the 31-year-old's track record and .286 xBA point to better days ahead.
Jun 23 2025Seager is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will get a rare day off while he battles through uncharacteristic struggles in June with a lowly .143/.313/.222 batting line so far this month. Ezequiel Duran will fill in at shortstop and bat eighth for the Rangers.
Jun 21 2025Seager went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager got a weight off his shoulder, homering for the first time in 19 contests and the first time since returning from a hamstring injury May 28. He entered the game batting .143 with just two RBI over the previous 18 games.
Jun 15 2025Seager went 1-for-4 with two walks, a double and an RBI in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager got the Rangers on the board with a run-producing double in the fifth inning. It was the second consecutive game with an RBI for Seager, who hasn't been productive since a return from the injured list in late May. He's gone 5-for-48 (.104) with a double, two RBI and three runs scored over 14 games played since coming off the IL. On a positive note, Saturday's bases on balls extended a walk streak to nine games (13 walks, .381 OBP).
Jun 7 2025Seager is not in the Rangers' starting lineup against the Nationals on Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is in the midst of a slump, having gone 0-for-18 with three walks and eight strikeouts over his last five games. He'll begin Saturday's contest in the dugout while Ezequiel Duran starts at shortstop and bats ninth.
May 29 2025Seager (hamstring) served as the Rangers' designated hitter and went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and was eased back into the lineup in a non-defensive role in his first game back. Despite tending to a calf injury late in spring training and having already landed on the IL on two occasions due to right hamstring strains, Seager has been the most productive hitter for a struggling Texas offense when he's been available, slashing .288/.333/.500 with six home runs in 27 games.
May 28 2025Seager (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been idle since May 11 due to a right hamstring strain, and after a brief stint on the injured list, he's been cleared to rejoin the active roster. The Rangers optioned Blaine Crim to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Seager is slashing .300/.346/.520 with six homers, 15 runs and 12 RBI over 107 plate appearances this season.
May 27 2025Seager (hamstring) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He faced live pitching over the weekend and was expected to be activated sometime during this series against Toronto. It was the second hamstring-related IL stint for Seager this season.
May 25 2025Seager (hamstring) faced live pitching Saturday and is expected to be activated off the 10-day injured list during a homestand that begins Monday, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The homestand runs from Monday to the following Sunday, so that's still a fairly wide window. With injuries piling up for the Rangers -- Joc Pederson (hand) just joined Evan Carter (quadriceps) on the IL -- Seager's bat is needed in the lineup sooner rather than later.
May 22 2025Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that it will be another 7-to-10 days before Seager (hamstring) is activated from the 10-day injured list, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has resumed running and is doing "very well" in his recovery from a right hamstring strain, per Bochy. However, this is his second hamstring-related IL stint this season, his third since 2023 and fourth in his career, so the Rangers want to be cautious with the shortstop. Seager has been sent to be "further evaluated by somebody else," Bochy said, to see if there might be something the team and Seager can do differently with his rehab to prevent future hamstring problems. Seager has been limited to just 26 games this season because of his recurring hamstring issues, but he's been productive when on the field, slashing .300/.346/.520 with six home runs.
May 14 2025Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said it's possible Seager (hamstring) will require longer than a minimum stay on the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed just 10 days of action the first time he strained his right hamstring, but the Rangers figure to be more cautious this time around after he aggravated the injury and had to go back on the IL this week. The shortstop is eligible for activation May 21 during the second game of a six-game road trip, but a return sometime during the Rangers' May 26 to June 1 homestand seems likelier for Seager.
May 13 2025Seager (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This will be Seager's second IL stint of the season with a right hamstring strain. The last time he missed under two weeks. Josh Smith (back) and Ezequiel Duran should fill in at shortstop. Kyle Higashioka was recalled in a corresponding move.
May 12 2025Seager (hamstring) is likely to be placed on the 10-day injured list, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was not the corresponding move for Jake Burger's recall from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. However, it sounds like the Rangers will just wait until Tuesday to put Seager on the IL when Kyle Higashioka (intercostal) is activated. It would be the second time within the last three weeks that Seager has gone on the IL with a right hamstring injury.
May 11 2025Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Seager is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Detroit after his right hamstring tightened up on a swing Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop had missed two straight games due to an injury to the same hamstring before returning to the lineup Saturday. Seager came up big in his return with two home runs and a double over four at-bats, but Ezequiel Duran came off the bench to replace him late in the contest. Seager is set to be evaluated Monday when the Rangers return home, but his availability for the start of a series versus the Rockies would seem to be in peril.
May 10 2025Seager went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 10-3 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager sat out two straight contests but returned with a bang, notching his second two-homer game of the season. The shortstop has hit safely in each of his five games since returning from the injured list May 3, going 8-for-23 with four extra-base hits, six RBI and seven runs scored in that span. On the season, he's slashing .300/.346/.520 with six long balls, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored across 107 plate appearances.
May 9 2025Seager is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager getting a day off when the Tigers send lefty Tarik Skubal to the bump isn't necessarily unexpected. However, Seager didn't start Thursday's game in Boston, either, so he might be dealing with some sort of physical issue. Josh Smith is at shortstop and hitting seventh Friday.
May 8 2025Seager is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager started each of the Rangers' first four games upon his activation from the injured list, but he'll get some rest for Thursday's matinee. Josh Smith will handle shortstop and bat leadoff for Texas.
May 4 2025Seager started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 8-1 win over Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who served as the designated hitter Saturday when he was activated off the injured list, was back home at shortstop Sunday. The Rangers have been in an offensive funk and desperately need Seager's bat in the lineup. The shortstop ranks third on the club with a .291 batting average.
May 3 2025The Rangers reinstated Seager (hamstring) from the injured list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been out of action since April 23 due to a strained right hamstring, but the 10-day minimum is all he needed to make a full recovery. He'll slide back into his usual role as Texas' everyday shortstop and look to pick up where he left off after slashing .302/.362/.524 during April. Jonathan Ornelas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.
May 1 2025Seager (hamstring) took live batting practice Thursday and also did some running, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Barring a setback, Seager is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Saturday. The veteran shortstop is sporting a .286/.345/.468 batting line with four home runs over his first 21 contests for the Rangers this season.
Apr 17 2025Seager went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager socked a 427-foot blast into deep center field in the seventh inning, giving the Rangers an insurance run to put the team ahead 5-3. The star shortstop is off to a strong start at the dish in 2025, slashing .306/.368/.516 with four round trippers, one double, six RBI and six runs scored through 62 at-bats (17 games). Seager now has multiple hits in three straight contests.
Apr 9 2025Seager went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager opened the scoring with a first-inning homer off Shota Imanaga before adding a second long ball off Nate Pearson in the seventh, extending the Rangers' lead to 6-1. Seager looks to be heating up at the plate -- he now has back-to-back two-hit games after going 5-for-31 (.161) with just one homer in his first nine contests this year.
Apr 6 2025Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager pushed the Rangers ahead in the sixth with a solo shot to right for his first home run and first extra base hit of the year. The lefty slugger has just two hits over his last 16 at-bats and a .179 batting average in the early going.
Apr 2 2025Seager is still dealing with some lingering calf soreness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's calf issue first popped up late in spring training and he has been playing through nagging soreness. The 30-year-old has received two days off so far -- including Wednesday -- and Grant suspects Seager will continue to sit out day games after night games. Seager is just 3-for-17 with zero extra-base hits in the early going this season, and it's possible the calf has contributed to the slow start.
Mar 30 2025Seager is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager went 3-for-12 with a run and three strikeouts over the first three games of the series, and he'll sit for Sunday's finale. Jonathan Ornelas, who was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, will start at shortstop and bat eighth.
Mar 29 2025Seager started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 in Friday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was held out of the field and instead served as the designated hitter in Thursday's opener due to a recent calf issue. The Rangers exercised caution with the shortstop, whose calf injury was always considered minor.
Mar 27 2025Seager (calf) will start at designated hitter and will bat second in Thursday's season opener versus the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though Seager's availability for Opening Day wasn't in much doubt after he took live batting practice Wednesday without incident, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was unsure whether the five-time All-Star would be able to play shortstop Thursday while he manages a sore calf. Per Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com, Seager was able to do some light running in the outfield earlier Thursday, but the Rangers ultimately chose to exercise some caution by deploying him in a non-defensive role in the first game of the season. Josh Smith will draw the start at shortstop in the opener, but Seager could resume playing in the infield at some point this weekend.
Mar 26 2025Seager (calf) took live batting practice Wednesday and is expected to be ready for Thursday's opener versus the Red Sox, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was held out of the Rangers' final three exhibition contests because of a sore calf, but he doesn't seem to be in any danger of missing Opening Day. The shortstop has reached the 30-homer mark in all three regular seasons with Texas.
Mar 25 2025Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Tuesday that he's confident that Seager (calf) will be in the lineup for Thursday's season opener versus the Red Sox, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will conclude spring training having missed the Rangers' final three games due to calf soreness, but both Young and manager Bruce Bochy have downplayed concerns about the shortstop's health heading into Opening Day. That said, even if Seager is cleared to start Thursday, it wouldn't be surprising if he received a day off at some point during the season-opening four-game series if the calf issue continues to linger.
Mar 24 2025Seager is out of the lineup for Monday's exhibition game against the Royals due to a sore calf, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bruce Bochy said the calf issue is nothing serious, but Seager's absence from a lineup that includes most of the Rangers' projected starters nonetheless raises some concern. Seager could be back in action for Tuesday's exhibition finale against the Royals, but if not, his status will need to monitored leading up to Thursday's season opener versus the Red Sox.
Mar 19 2025Seager went 5-for-13 (.385) with six runs, two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and a 5:1 BB:K over his last six spring games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager owned a .520 spring OPS at the end of play March 12, but thanks to his hot streak he raised that mark more than 300 points over the last week. Injuries remain a long-term concern for Seager, but he appears healthy and ready to go with the regular season just over a week away.
Feb 17 2025Seager (hip/sports hernia) reported to spring training Monday and isn't expected to face any restrictions during camp. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers shut Seager down for the season last September after placing him on the 60-day injured list due to hip soreness, and he was diagnosed with a sports hernia later that month that required surgery. After a roughly two-month rehab program following his sports hernia surgery, Seager was cleared for baseball activities over the winter and appears to have had a relatively normal offseason. While durability remains an annual concern, the 30-year-old shortstop has proven himself to be a four-category standout whenever he's on the field.
Nov 26 2024Seager (hip/hernia) is close to being cleared to perform all baseball activities, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager underwent sports hernia surgery in September. He's been resting and rehabbing for the last two months but is almost ready to begin his normal offseason routine. Seager is expected to head into spring training at 100 percent.
Sep 13 2024The Rangers transferred Seager (hernia) to the 60-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is slated to undergo season-ending surgery Friday to address his sports hernia, and his move to the 60-day IL will officially rule him out for the remainder of the season. Jacob deGrom (elbow) will return from the IL to fill the open 40-man spot, meanwhile Seager will look to return for the start of spring training.
Sep 12 2024Seager was diagnosed with a sports hernia and will have season-ending surgery Friday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been out for the last week due to what was originally deemed hip soreness. However, he has now been diagnosed with a sports hernia on his right side. There hasn't been any official word on his status for 2025, but he'll presumably be ready for spring training. Josh Smith has been filling in as Texas' shortstop and will presumably continue to do so over the final weeks of the season.
Sep 4 2024The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with hip discomfort, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's an injury that seems to have been nagging at Seager for a bit, as he had been out of the lineup for three of the previous seven contests. Seager will be eligible for activation Sept. 16, but with less than two weeks left in the season at that point and the Rangers out of the playoff picture, it's possible he's played his last game this season. Josh Smith could see the bulk of the starts at shortstop while Seager is out, with Ezequiel Duran and Jonathan Ornelas also in the mix.
Sep 3 2024Seager is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has a .968 OPS with seven extra-base hits in his last 10 contests, but he'll sit Tuesday for the second time in Texas' past five games. Jonathan Ornelas will take over at shortstop and bat ninth against Yankees lefty Carlos Rodon.
Aug 30 2024Seager is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager clubbed the 200th home run of his career Thursday against the White Sox and will sit Friday after a run of 12 straight starts. Ezequiel Duran will take over at shortstop and bat eighth in the series opener versus Oakland.
Aug 29 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 2-1 win against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager took Nick Nastrini deep in the fourth inning for his 30th homer of the season and the 200th of his career. Seager is the third Rangers' player with 30 homers in each of his first three seasons with the team, joining Alex Rodriguez and Adrian Beltre. Seager has been fantastic in August, with 11 home runs in 24 games. His 11 homers this month are the second most by any player in a month this season, as only Aaron Judge had more.
Aug 28 2024Seager went 4-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored earlier in the day as the teams completed a suspended game from Tuesday. He stayed productive in Wednesday's regularly scheduled contest, which saw him put the Rangers ahead for good with an RBI single in the ninth inning. The shortstop has seven multi-hit efforts over his last 16 games, going 21-for-67 (.313) in that span. He's up to a .277/.355/.509 slash line with 29 home runs, 73 RBI, 66 runs scored, one stolen base and 19 doubles through 119 contests this season, matching his games played from last year.
Aug 26 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager brought the Rangers within one run with an eighth-inning solo shot. It was the 29th of the season for Seager, who is on the precipice of a third consecutive season with at least 30 home runs.
Aug 24 2024Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Friday's 5-3 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager provided the winning blow with a two-run double in the second inning. The shortstop leads the Rangers with 70 RBI, fueled by a productive month. Seager has a .992 OPS with nine homers and 20 RBI over 19 games in August.
Aug 19 2024Seager went 2-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and a walk in Monday's 4-3 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The All-Star shortstop opened the game's scoring with a titanic 449-foot solo shot off Luis Ortiz in the first inning. Seager wasn't finished, returning in the third to smash a 400-foot, three-run homer off Ortiz again, accounting for all the Texas runs in the contest. The 30-year-old has found his power swing since the All-Star break, slamming nine homers while hitting .283 (32-for-113) with 20 RBI, and 18 runs scored across 29 games.
Aug 15 2024Seager is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's the first day off since July 23 for Seager, who has already popped seven home runs in 12 games in August. Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop and bat second.
Aug 12 2024Seager went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Monday's 5-4 loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran shortstop tied the game at 3-3 when he launched a 384-foot, two-run homer off southpaw reliever Bailey Horn in the seventh inning. Seager has tormented the Red Sox this season, hitting .438 (7-for-16) with four homers, six RBI and five runs scored in four games against them. Overall, the 30-year-old now sports a .277/.356/.506 slash line with 63 RBI and 59 runs scored across 458 plate appearances.
Aug 11 2024Seager went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during a shutout loss in the matinee, Seager's bat woke up in the nightcap, and his sixth-inning shot off Luke Weaver gave the Rangers a 6-1 lead in an eventual 9-4 win. Seager is surging, launching six homers over the last eight games with 10 RBI, and on the season the All-Star shortstop is slashing .273/.353/.497 with 25 long balls and 60 RBI.
Aug 7 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager spoiled Framber Valdez's no-hit bid with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with his two-run homer. It was Seager's third consecutive game with a home run and his fifth homer over the last five contests. The shortstop has 24 home runs and 57 RBI through 101 games this season.
Aug 6 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager turned on a Ryan Pressly four-seamer in the eighth inning for his fourth home run in the last four games. The blast tied the game at 2-2, setting up the extra frame. Seager's hit well since the All-Star break, posting a line of .313/.375/.578 with five homers, seven RBI and 11 runs scored over 17 games.
Aug 4 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has three homers over his last three contests, going 5-for-12 in that span. The shortstop's blast opened the scoring in the first inning Sunday. Seager is up to 22 long balls, 54 RBI, 55 runs scored, one stolen base, 14 doubles and a .277/.359/.491 slash line through 99 games this season, though he's batting a more impressive .391 (18-for-46) over his last 11 contests.
Aug 2 2024Seager went 3-for-3 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBI in Friday's 11-6 loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two-time World Series MVP opened the contest's scoring when he laced a 371-foot solo shot off Kutter Crawford in the first inning. Seager then cracked another solo homer -- this one traveling 410 feet -- off Crawford in his next plate appearance in the third. The Texas shortstop has found a groove since the All-Star break, hitting .333 (17-for-51) with three homers, two doubles, nine runs scored and five RBI over 14 games.
Jul 25 2024Seager went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer and three runs scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager got the Rangers on the board with a solo shot off Chris Flexen in the first inning and then came around to score again in the fifth on an Adolis Garcia double to tie the game at 2-2. The shortstop went on to tally four hits on the night, something he hadn't done since March 30 against the Cubs, raising his average to .269 on the season and .311 in the month of July. Seager was just 1-for-14 since the All-Star break heading into Wednesday's contest, while the long ball was his fourth this month. The three runs scored also marked a season high for the veteran infielder.
Jul 23 2024Seager is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager started the previous 15 games but will sit Tuesday after going 1-for-16 over the past five contests. Jonathan Ornelas will receive a start at shortstop versus White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet.
Jul 13 2024Seager went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He got the Rangers on the board with a two-run shot off Hunter Brown in the sixth inning. Seager has been on fire in July, racking up five multi-hit performances, three homers and 11 RBI in nine games while batting .361 (13-for-36), and the surge has pushed his slash line on the season up to .272/.352/.485.
Jul 8 2024Seager went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a double in Monday's 9-4 win against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager helped Texas get off to a fast start with his massive 457-foot, two-run blast in the first frame. The shortstop added a double in the seventh for his third straight multi-hit effort. Seager also extended his overall hitting streak to 13 games, and during that stretch he's batting .373 (19-for-51) with three homers, seven doubles, 10 RBI, nine runs and a stolen base.
Jul 7 2024Seager went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's hitting streak is up to 12 games, a span in which he's gone 17-for-46 (.370) with eight extra-base hits, eight RBI and eight runs scored. The shortstop's fourth-inning homer turned this game into a romp for the Rangers. Seager is slashing .271/.352/.473 with 16 long balls, 43 RBI, 40 runs scored and one stolen base through 77 contests overall.
Jul 6 2024Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 3-0 win over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager lashed a two-run double in the third inning and came around to score on a Nathaniel Lowe single. The double extended Seager's hit streak to 10 games, during which he's 13-for-38 (.342) with five doubles, a home run, five RBI and five additional runs.
Jul 4 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who had been dealing with a wrist injury, was a late addition to the starting lineup and was back at his normal shortstop position, batting second. He had missed the previous two games after getting hit by a pitch on the left wrist last Saturday.
Jul 3 2024Seager (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting second in Wednesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed the last two games after being struck in the left wrist by a pitch Saturday against Baltimore. He was originally slated to begin Wednesday's game in the dugout, but Seager will return to the starting lineup, bumping Josh Smith to third base and Jonathan Ornelas to the bench.
Jul 2 2024Seager (wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old has had X-rays and an MRI come back negative since being struck in the left wrist by a pitch Saturday in Baltimore, but he'll still sit for the second straight game Tuesday. Josh Smith will receive another start at shortstop as Seager continues to heal up.
Jul 1 2024An MRI on Seager's left wrist has come back negative, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: X-rays had also previously came back clean, so Seager's return to the Rangers' lineup will be determined by how much discomfort and swelling he's dealing with. The shortstop was injured when he was struck by a pitch Saturday in Baltimore and didn't play Sunday's game, but he has managed to avoid a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day. Texas has a team off day Monday before starting a series at home against the Padres on Tuesday.
Jun 30 2024Seager (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old had X-rays come back negative after being struck in the left wrist by a pitch Saturday, and he'll miss at least one start. The Rangers are calling up Jonathan Ornelas for added infield depth, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, which could signify that Seager will miss some time. No IL move is coming Sunday though, as Brock Burke was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Josh Smith is starting at shortstop as Davis Wendzel mans the hot corner.
Jun 29 2024Seager's (wrist) X-rays came back negative and he'll undergo further evaluation Sunday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch during Saturday's game against the Orioles and was immediately removed from the contest. Considering he looked to be in significant pain, Seager's X-rays returning negative is certainly an encouraging sign. Sill, it seems like he'll be held out of Sunday's series finale.
Jun 26 2024Seager is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will get a breather for the day game after a night game, opening up shortstop for Josh Smith as the Rangers close out their series in Milwaukee. While starting in each of Texas' last 11 games, Seager went 7-for-42 (.167 average) with no home runs and one stolen base.
Jun 15 2024Seager returned to the lineup and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 3-2 loss to Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was back in the lineup as the DH after being scratched Thursday due to ongoing issues with his hamstring. The one time he did reach base Friday -- a two-out, eighth-inning walk -- he was lifted for a pinch runner. That likely means manager Bruce Bochy didn't want Seager to risk aggravating his injury while trying to score a tying run, so the manager went with the speedier Travis Jankowski. For Seager, the walk extended his on-base streak to 30 games (.415 OBP).
Jun 14 2024Seager (hamstring) is serving as the Rangers' designated hitter and batting second Friday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was dealing with tightness in his hamstring while warming up for Thursday's game, and he was scratched from the lineup as a precaution after having missed four games earlier in the week due to hamstring problems. The issue has now subsided ahead of Friday's contest, and he will look to remain hot at the plate after going 8-for-21 with a homer and four RBI in six games since the beginning of June.
Jun 13 2024Seager (hamstring) was scratched from Thursday's lineup as a precaution, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Bruce Bochy disclosed that Seager experienced tightness in his hamstring while warming up for Thursday's game, and it's not a surprise the club played it safe after the shortstop recently missed four games due to a hamstring issue. Bochy also noted that Seager is likely to be back in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.
Jun 12 2024Seager went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed nearly a week due to left hamstring soreness, and he played in a non-defensive capacity as the designated hitter Wednesday. He delivered the biggest hit of the game, a fifth-inning blast that accounted for all of the Rangers' runs. Prior to his absence, Seager had hit safely in 17 of his previous 18 games, batting .354 and slugging .800 in that span. He's up to a .271/.362/.484 slash line with 14 homers, 33 RBI, 30 runs scored and no stolen bases through 58 contests overall. Getting Seager's bat back in the lineup is a big boost to a Texas offense that has been limited to three runs or fewer in six of 10 games in June.
Jun 11 2024Seager (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite a team day off Monday, Seager's absence will extend to four games as he continues to nurse the hamstring strain he suffered Wednesday versus Detroit. Ezequiel Duran will take over at shortstop and bat seventh Tuesday.
Jun 9 2024Seager (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will miss his third straight game Sunday due to a left hamstring strain he sustained Wednesday against the Tigers. The Rangers have an off day Monday, so the 30-year-old will have four days off before the upcoming road series against the Dodgers starting Tuesday. Josh Smith will once again start at shortstop Sunday, while Ezequiel Duran serves at the hot corner against Giants right-hander Keaton Winn.
Jun 8 2024Seager (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will sit for a second straight game after injuring his left hamstring Wednesday against the Tigers. He will be available to pinch hit again Saturday, per Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com. Josh Smith will shift over to shortstop while Ezequiel Duran gets the start at third base against Giants right-hander Spencer Howard.
Jun 7 2024Seager (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The hamstring injury that caused Seager's departure from Wednesday's matchup with the Tigers is considered minor, but he'll still be out of the starting nine for at least one game. The 30-year-old is still on Texas' lineup card, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, and he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list. Josh Smith will shift to shortstop while Ezequiel Duran receives a start at the hot corner.
Jun 5 2024Manager Bruce Bochy said after Wednesday's game that Seager's (hamstring) removal from Texas' win over Detroit was precautionary, and the team doesn't consider his injury to be anything serious, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Bochy added that Seager will not receive an MRI, and the Rangers will instead wait to see how he feels after Thursday's scheduled off day before deciding whether or not to hold him out for a few games. Should the 30-year-old need to miss any amount of time, Ezequiel Duran would likely be the next man up to start at shortstop.
Jun 2 2024Seager went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 7-0 win over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The calendar flipping from May to June did nothing to slow down Seager. After posting a 1.047 OPS during May, Seager extended a hitting streak to 14 games on the first day of the new month. He's 19-for-51 (.373) with nine home runs, 14 RBI and 11 runs scored during the streak.
May 30 2024Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, whom the Diamondbacks chose to issue an intentional walk with runners on in the third inning, didn't get a free pass in the fifth inning and paid for it. He got a hold of a first-pitch cutter and sent it over the fence in right field. It was his eighth home run over the last eight games and extended a hit streak to 12 contests.
May 28 2024Seager went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's hitting streak is up to 11 games, during which he's gone 14-for-40 (.350). He's also homered seven times over his last seven contests, with Tuesday's blast being enough to secure the win for the Rangers. The shortstop is up to 12 long balls, 27 RBI, 26 runs scored and a .259/.351/.461 slash line through 50 games, though he's been particularly impressive with his recent power surge after a slow start to the campaign.
May 26 2024Seager went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager had just two homers through the end of April, but his power swing has returned in a big way. The shortstop has clubbed six homers over his last six games and is now at 11 long balls on the year. He's also gone 13-for-37 (.351) during a 10-game hitting streak. Seager's surge has him up to a .258/.349/.447 slash line with 24 RBI, 25 runs scored, no stolen bases and three doubles through 49 contests overall.
May 25 2024Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager returned to the lineup Friday after a day off, and his bat remained hot. He homered for a fourth straight game, connecting in his first at-bat to give the Rangers an early 2-0 lead. He's hit safely in eight straight (.357, five homers) and has an on-base streak of 18 games (.420 OBP, seven homers).
May 23 2024Seager is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has hit home runs in three straight games, but he will be given a breather Thursday as the Rangers go up against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies. Josh Smith will slide over to shortstop and Ezequiel Duran will occupy third base while Seager rests.
May 22 2024Seager went 2-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run during Wednesday's 11-4 loss to Philadelphia. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager reached base four times Wednesday, but he was only able to reach home plate on a solo homer in the seventh off Gregory Soto. The shortstop has gone yard in three straight games and has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games. Seager trails only Gunnar Henderson and Elly De La Cruz for the most home runs at the shortstop position.
May 19 2024Seager went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's solid May continues -- he has gone 17-for-64 (.266) with four homers and nine RBI over 17 contests this month. The shortstop provided the Rangers' lone run against Jose Soriano. Seager's had a down year across the board with a .247/.338/.371 slash line, six homers, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored and three doubles through 44 games. The bright side is his 11.8 percent walk rate, which is the highest it's been in his three years as a Ranger.
May 15 2024Seaver went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 7-4 loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager took advantage of the Globe Life Field roof being open, swatting a solo home run off Ben Lively in the third inning. The shortstop has hit three home runs in his last eight games and is batting .267 with six RBI and an 11.4 percent K rate during that stretch.
May 11 2024Seager went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 4-2 loss the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning then walked with the bases loaded an inning later. He struggled through the first five weeks of the season -- perhaps attributable to missing much of spring training after undergoing hernia surgery in January -- and his batting average was .219 as of May 2. Since then, Seager has hit safely in six of seven games, going 9-for-28 (.321) with two home runs and seven RBI.
May 8 2024Seager is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the Game 1 loss, which ended a modest five-game hit streak. Josh Smith will shift to shortstop and Ezequiel Duran will start at third base while Seager receives some rest in the nightcap.
May 6 2024Seager went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Monday in a 4-2 victory against Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Texas was down 2-0 heading into the eighth frame before Seager turned the team's fortunes around with a two-out, three-run blast to center field. It was a much-needed big moment for the star shortstop, as he came into the contest batting just .190 in May and .228 overall on the season. After slugging 33 homers and driving in 96 runs last year, Seager has just three homers and 13 RBI through 33 games in 2024. Monday marked the first time he has driven in multiple runs in a contest since Texas' second game of the season.
May 4 2024Seager went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 7-1 loss to Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager delivered the Rangers' lone run with a single in the third inning. He's been mired in a slump and entered Friday's game batting .073 (3-for-41) with two RBI over the previous 11 games. Rangers general manager Chris Young took the long view when speaking with Kenndi Landry of MLB.com, indicating the club expected Seager to need some time to get going after undergoing hernia surgery in January. Young also feels there has been some bad luck, which speaks to the shortstop's .269 BABIP.
Apr 28 2024Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who was not in the original starting lineup for Saturday's game, was a late addition. The home run was his second of the season. Seager's off to a slow start, slashing .247/.336/.330 over 110 plate appearances, which is perhaps disappointing from a player that finished second in AL MVP voting last season. However, it's also understandable when considering Seager underwent offseason hernia surgery and missed all but the final week of spring training.
Apr 27 2024Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Seager will start at shortstop for Saturday's game against the Reds, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager left Wednesday's game against the Mariners after taking a pitch off his shin, and he played one game at DH before returning to shortstop in the series opener against the Reds on Friday. Seager was initially set to take Saturday off, but Bochy has reinserted the 30-year-old back into the starting lineup. With Seager at shortstop, Josh Smith will shift to third base while Ezequiel Duran will move to the bench.
Apr 25 2024Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop.
Apr 24 2024Seager was removed from Wednesday's game against the Mariners due to a left shin contusion, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager remained in the game to run the bases after taking a pitch off his shin in the seventh inning, but he was replaced on defense prior to the eighth. His ability to remain in the game immediately after getting hit suggests his injury is relatively minor, though it's still possible the Rangers sit him down for Thursday's series finale. The 29-year-old infielder went 0-for-2 with a walk before being pulled Wednesday and is now slashing .192/.276/.192 across his last seven games.
Apr 15 2024Seager is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's a routine day off for Seager, who has now started 14 of 17 games so far this season. The Rangers are going with Josh Smith at shortstop and Ezequiel Duran at third base.
Apr 9 2024Seager is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager started the past seven games and will take a seat after posting an .889 OPS during that stretch. It's likely just a maintenance day for the veteran shortstop since he was sidelined for most of spring training while recovering from offseason hernia surgery. Josh Smith will man shortstop in his place Tuesday.
Apr 3 2024Seager went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Leading off the sixth inning, Seager snapped a scoreless tie with a long ball that just snuck inside the right-field foul pole for his first home run of the campaign. The 29-year-old Seager has shown few signs of rust despite being limited by injuries during spring training -- he's now 8-for-22 (.364 average) with four runs scored and three RBI to start the season after slashing .327/.390/.623 with 33 homers and 96 RBI in 2023.
Mar 31 2024Seager is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is coming off sports hernia surgery he underwent in January and was able to play in only four spring training games. The 29-year-old recorded four hits with two RBI in Saturday's win. With his day off, Wyatt Langford will hit out of the two spot in left field, and Ezequiel Duran gets the start at shortstop.
Mar 26 2024Seager started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Monday's exhibition game against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who missed most of the Cactus League with a groin injury, increased his activity from Sunday's spring debut. He went from two to three at-bats and three to six innings. The two teams will play another game Tuesday, and Seager is expected to participate. It's unclear if he'll play the full nine innings, but that is probably something the Rangers would want to see before Thursday's Opening Day matchup against the Cubs.
Mar 24 2024Seager started at shortstop and went 2-for-2 in Saturday's spring game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager made his spring debut, which had been delayed following surgery to repair a sports hernia in January. He played three innings in the field before being replaced by Ezequiel Duran. The shortstop had been taking at-bats recently, and the Rangers were cautiously optimistic that he could get into game action. After the Rangers break camp Sunday, Seager is expected to play both exhibition games against the Red Sox on Monday and Tuesday, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.
Mar 23 2024Seager (groin) will start at shortstop and bat second in Saturday's spring training game against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager underwent sports hernia surgery in late January, and the shortstop has spent spring training ramping up his activity. He has participated in live batting practice since March 18 and appears healthy enough to make his 2024 Cactus League debut. Seager slashed .327/.390/.623 with 33 home runs and 96 RBI over 536 plate appearances in 2023.
Mar 18 2024Seager (groin) is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been trending in a good direction as he ramps back up following January sports hernia surgery. He has a chance to play in some Cactus League or exhibition games before the spring schedule comes to an end next Tuesday. If Seager is able to get into a game in the next week, he could be a realistic option for the Rangers' Opening Day lineup.
Mar 15 2024Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that he's more optimistic Seager (groin) will be ready for Opening Day, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not a exactly a specific update, but more optimism from the skipper is certainly an encouraging development. Seager resumed taking swings this week and has also been fielding groundballs and playing catch, and he should continue ramping up his baseball work during the closing stretch of camp. The 29-year-old appears to have a decent chance of being ready by Opening Day.
Mar 11 2024Seager (groin) will take some light swings Monday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been fielding grounders and playing catch, but he'll be swinging a bat for the first time since he underwent sports hernia surgery in January. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that he expects to know more next week regarding Seager's Opening Day availability.
Mar 8 2024Seager (groin) fielded some grounders and played catch Thursday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has resumed some baseball activities but has not yet been cleared to swing a bat as he works his way back from sports hernia surgery. He is hoping to play in some Cactus League games before the spring schedule runs out, but it's uncertain as to when that might happen. It seems more likely that not that Seager will need some time on the injured list to start the season, but he shouldn't be out long.
Mar 5 2024Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday he's "hopeful" Seager (groin) will get some at-bats in Cactus League play before the end of spring training, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old's availability for Opening Day remains in question as he recovers from the hernia surgery in underwent in late January. Seager recently had his progress slowed by the flu, but it apparently wasn't enough to delay his potential return. It's unclear if he has resumed baseball activities, but there should be more clarity on his status as spring training continues to progress. Even if Seager isn't quite ready by Opening Day, he isn't expected to miss much time.
Feb 19 2024Seager (groin) told reporters Monday that he hopes to be ready for Opening Day but isn't sure it will happen, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager underwent surgery in January to repair a sports hernia and was just recently cleared for incline walking and riding a stationary bike. It's not clear when he might be able to resume baseball activities and play in games, but it does not appear to be imminent. If Seager needs a stint on the injured list to start the season, Ezequiel Duran would figure to be in line to fill in at shortstop for the Rangers.
Jan 30 2024Seager underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a sports hernia, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager initially suffered the injury during the postseason and the hope was that it would heal with some extended rest over the offseason. That didn't happen, however, so the decision was made to have the operation. The Rangers are hopeful that Seager will be ready in time for Opening Day, but if he's not, Ezequiel Duran would figure to see extra playing time in the early going. Seager was the runner-up for American League MVP in 2023 and captured World Series MVP honors during Texas' run to the title.
Sep 28 2023Seager went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who was removed from Tuesday's game after getting hit by a pitch on the forearm, didn't miss much time. He was back in the starting lineup Wednesday and delivered a couple of singles. The shortstop extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's 10-for-32 (.313).
Sep 27 2023Seager (forearm) is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was removed from Tuesday's loss to the Angels a few innings after taking a Reid Detmers fastball off his right forearm, but X-rays turned up negative and he will immediately return to action for the Rangers in Wednesday's series finale. The 29-year-old has delivered a robust .332/.394/.640 batting line with 33 homers, 42 doubles and 96 RBI across 114 games this season.
Sep 26 2023X-rays on Seager's right forearm came back negative after he got hit by a pitch during Tuesday's loss against the Angels, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager remained in the game after getting hit by a 93-mph Reid Detmers fastball, but he was eventually pulled in the sixth after the Angels took a 9-1 lead. The Rangers will check back in with Seager on Wednesday, and his availability will likely hinge on how sore his forearm feels at that point.
Sep 23 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with with a solo home run in Friday's 8-5 win over Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager, who entered the game with just two hits over his last 22 at-bats, gave the Rangers an early lead with a first-inning home run. While Seager's .274 average in September is his "worst" month of the season, the shortstop sports a .914 OPS with seven homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI and 18 runs scored over 20 games this month.
Sep 15 2023Seager went 3-for-4 with a two-run double, a solo homer, a walk and an additional run scored in Thursday's 9-2 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager stayed hot Thursday, with a solo shot in the first frame, a two-run double off the wall in the third and a base hit in the fourth. The 29-year-old superstar has now hit safely in five consecutive contests, posting four multi-hit efforts and going 11-for-22 with five doubles, two home runs, six RBI and nine runs during the impressive stretch. Seager improved his AL-leading batting average to .344, and the shortstop is two homers away from tying his career-high mark of 33, which he achieved last season.
Sep 12 2023Seager went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager hit his AL-leading 38th and 39th doubles in Tuesday's contest. The nine-year veteran has played his role in keeping the Rangers afloat in the playoff race by swinging a hot bat since returning from a sprained thumb Aug. 2. Over that span Seager has hit .324 with 10 doubles, 15 home runs, 31 RBI and 32 runs in 145 at-bats.
Sep 10 2023Seager went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has gone 9-for-38 (.237) over his first nine games in September, but five of his hits in that span have been homers. He's also produced seven RBI. It's not all that surprising that his consistency at the plate has faltered recently -- he's still hitting an extraordinary .336 on the year through 99 contests while boasting a 1.049 OPS. He hasn't hit better than .307 in any of the previous six years. The shortstop has reached the 30-homer mark for the second year in a row while adding 87 RBI, 76 runs scored, 36 doubles and two stolen bases.
Sep 9 2023Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager cranked his 29th home run in the bottom of the first inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit. He's gone deep five times in the last eight games, as Seager continued a massive season at the dish. His 1.052 OPS ranks second behind only Shohei Ohtani (1.066).
Sep 4 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with two homers and three RBI in Monday's 13-6 loss to the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager opened the scoring with a two-run, 453-foot blast off J.P. France in the first inning before putting Texas ahead 4-3 in the fifth with his second homer. The 29-year-old Seager now has four homers in his last five games, going 8-for-23 (.348) in that span. Overall, his slash line is up to a stellar .345/.407/.658 with 28 homers, 84 RBI and 73 runs scored through 430 plate appearances this season.
Aug 30 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday in an extra-inning loss to the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager hit the Rangers' lone long ball in the contest, smacking a 420-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. The shortstop added a single to finish with his sixth multi-hit performance over his past 10 games. At this point, Seager getting on base is almost an expectation -- his .346 batting average and .411 OBP would lead the American League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. The star shortstop has added 25 home runs, 35 doubles and 80 RBI over 90 contests.
Aug 24 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's loss to Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager swatted a solo shot in the third inning for one of three Texas homers in the contest. The star shortstop added a single in the fourth frame for his third multi-hit performance over his past four games. Seager also drew a walk in the loss, marking that seventh straight contest that he has taken at least one free pass. In the month of August, he's reached base at a .417 clip while hitting nine homers and driving in 19 runs over 18 games.
Aug 21 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's third-inning homer was his 23rd of the season and eighth in 15 games since coming off the injured list Aug. 2. The shortstop's 1.071 OPS leads MLB, but Seager is still 17 at-bats shy of qualifying. He has a line of .346/.411/.660 over 367 at-bats.
Aug 15 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, a solo homer and two additional RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager posted his best game of 2023 Tuesday, securing his first multi-homer game of the campaign and tying his season-high in RBI with five on the day. The outing continued a power surge for the left-handed shortstop, who's blasted 12 long balls across his last 22 games and is now tied for the second-most homers at the position.
Aug 12 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, an additional RBI and two extra runs scored in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Giants. The shortstop reached the 20-homer mark for the fourth time in his career with his first-inning blast Saturday. He's added 68 RBI, 57 runs scored, 31 doubles and a stolen base while slashing .350/.410/.657 through 74 contests this season.
Aug 9 2023Seager is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager appears to be getting a routine day off as he gets eased back into action following his return from the injured list a week ago. Ezequiel Duran will man shortstop for the Rangers, and left fielder Travis Jankowski will slide up to the two hole while Seager sits.
Aug 8 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has gone 10-for-26 (.385) over six games since he returned from a thumb injury. That's impressive work even with the shortstop hitting .353 with a 1.070 OPS through 72 contests this season. He's added 19 homers, 66 RBI, 54 runs scored, a stolen base and 31 doubles over 325 plate appearances.
Aug 6 2023Seager is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is likely just receiving some maintenance after he started in each of the past four games upon being activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Josh Smith will step in at shortstop Sunday in place of a resting Seager, who has gone 5-for-16 with three home runs, one walk, six RBI and two additional runs since coming off the IL.
Aug 5 2023Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 win over Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager pulled a Jesus Luzardo changeup 429 feet in the first inning after the Marlins jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the frame. It was his second homer in three games since being activated off the injured list and seventh long ball over the last 14. The shortstop is slashing .345/.406/.636 with 17 home runs and 62 RBI over 69 games.
Aug 3 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in an 11-1 victory versus the White Sox on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager came off a stay on the 10-day injured list due to a sprained right thumb and showed right away that the injury is no longer an issue, drilling a two-run shot in his first at-bat. The shortstop followed with a run-scoring single in the second inning to set off an offensive explosion by the Rangers. The only thing capable of slowing down Seager this season appears to be his health. He's played in only 66 games due to injuries, but he's been a powerhouse when in the lineup, slashing .352/.414/.640 with 16 homers, 29 doubles, 61 RBI, 49 runs and a stolen base over 302 plate appearances.
Aug 2 2023Seager (thumb) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will skip a minor-league rehab assignment and jump right back into the Rangers' starting lineup Wednesday night against the White Sox after what was close to a minimum IL stint for a sprained right thumb. When healthy this season, the 29-year-old shortstop has posted a robust .350/.413/.631 batting line with 15 home runs, 29 doubles and 58 RBI across 66 games.
Jul 29 2023Seager (thumb) received a cortisone injection Friday and could start swinging a bat within the next couple days, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 29-year-old landed on the injured list July 22 with a sprained right thumb, and he's nearing his return to baseball activities after briefly sporting a splint. Seager initially believed his absence wouldn't last more than two weeks, and a return next weekend against the Marlins still appears possible if he's able to swing with no issues early this week.
Jul 22 2023Seager was placed on the injured list Saturday with a sprained right thumb. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is having an excellent season at the plate, with his .350/.413/.631 slash line representing career highs in all three categories. He hasn't been able to escape the injury bug that has nagged him throughout his career, however, as he's now on his second trip to the injured list of the year, having missed a month with a hamstring strain early in the year. The good news is that Seager himself believes this absence won't last more than two weeks, per Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com, as he's avoided structural damage. Ezequiel Duran is expected to be the primary shortstop until Seager returns.
Jul 21 2023Seager left Friday's loss to the Dodgers with a sprained right thumb, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The good news is that X-rays came back negative for any structural damage and Seager is listed as day-to-day, but the Rangers might not have the full picture as to how the thumb sprain will affect the 29-year-old shortstop until later in the weekend. He seems likely to at least be held out Saturday. Josh Smith took over at short Friday for Seager, who finished 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two runs scored while boosting his stellar season slash line to .350/.413/.631.
Jul 19 2023Seager went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager had fanned three times before taking Javy Guerra deep in the bottom of the seventh inning, turning a 2-1 lead into a 5-1 margin. It was his 14th long ball of the season. The shortstop is 5-for-18 with a 1.103 OPS since the All-Star break, building on a monster first half in which he posted a 1.026 OPS over 59 games.
Jul 15 2023Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 12-4 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager hit the first of three Texas home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning that turned a 4-3 deficit into an 8-4 lead. In all, the Rangers belted four home runs in their comeback after falling behind 4-0 in the third. It was an explosion from Texas batters, which were held in check and went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position over the final two games before the All-Star break. Seager, who missed a month due to a hamstring injury, does not yet qualify for any batting titles, but the shortstop has an impressive line of .355/.416/.628 over 60 games.
Jul 8 2023Seager went 2-for-5 with a home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Nationals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager homered for the second straight game and extended a hit streak to 10 games, including the last three with multiple knocks. He's 18-for-41 (.439) with eight extra-base hits (.732 SLG), six RBI and 11 runs scored during the streak.
Jul 7 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Red Sox on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's long ball came with Texas down five runs in the ninth inning, but that doesn't lessen its impact in fantasy box scores. The All-Star shortstop recorded his second straight three-hit effort and extended his hitting streak to nine games, a stretch during which he's slashing .444/.488/.667. However, Seager hadn't homered during the streak until Thursday -- in fact, his long ball against Boston was his first since June 17, a span of 18 contests. Even so, Seager has been productive during the 18-game stretch, driving in 14 runs and knocking 10 doubles.
Jul 6 2023Seager went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was the lone runner among the seven reaching scoring position that Texas batters were able to deliver. His sixth-inning double preceded an Adolis Garcia home run. The shortstop extended a hit streak to eight games (13-for-31) and an on-base streak to 24 (38-for-97, 1.114 OPS).
Jun 29 2023Seager is not in the lineup Thursday against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Josh Smith will start at shortstop and bat ninth as the Rangers wrap up their four-game series versus Detroit. Seager made an early exit from Wednesday's game, but this is all part of a designed plan to keep him healthy leading into the second half of the 2023 campaign. He boasts a .342/.394/.627 slash line in 175 plate appearances since returning May 17 from a severe left hamstring strain.
Jun 21 2023Seager went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's big night was lost amid a controversial overturned call in the bottom of the eighth inning that allowed the winning run to score. The shortstop has hit in five consecutive games, going 11-for-22 with five doubles, a home run and nine RBI. A celebrated hitter over the first eight years of his career, the 29-year-old Seager is off the charts in 2023. He's hitting .367/.424/.657 with 45 RBI over 42 games and 191 plate appearances.
Jun 18 2023Seager went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and one run scored in Sunday's win over Toronto. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Sunday's contest marked Seager's fourth multi-hit contest in his last eight games, while his two doubles set a season high. Seager has boasted one of baseball's top bats through 40 games, owning a .363/.420/.656 slash line with 10 homers, 40 RBI and 29 runs scored while striking out just 16.6 percent of the time.
Jun 15 2023Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk and solo home run in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's blast in the seventh inning -- the second of back-to-back homers -- provided the winning run. He's homered in two consecutive games and three times over the last five. The 29-year-old shortstop has been on a remarkable tear since returning from a hamstring injury in May, slashing .356/.395/.683 with eight home runs, 32 RBI and 20 runs over 25 games.
Jun 14 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager had another big night at the plate, launching a 435-foot blast in the fifth inning for his eighth home run of the year. The stud shortstop has been on fire of late, recording 10 hits over his last four games while posting six multi-hit games already for the month of June. If Seager can remain healthy, he could very well be in line for a career year batting near the top of the highest-scoring offense in baseball.
Jun 10 2023Seager went 5-for-5 with a double, a home run, two total runs and four total RBI in Saturday's 8-4 victory over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager came into the contest in what can be considered a mini-slump in light of his overall body of work this season, as he had gone 1-for-12 with four strikeouts over his previous three contests. The shortstop got back on track in emphatic fashion against Tampa Bay, notching his first career five-hit game, which included a two-run double and a two-run homer. Seager's batting average shot up 27 points to .352 as a result of the big performance, and he's added seven homers, 13 doubles, 33 RBI and 23 runs through 144 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 4 2023Seager went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, one walk, two RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 12-3 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Seager's fifth multi-hit effort in his last six games, a span in which he's gone 11-for-27 (.407) with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI. The shortstop's surge has him up to a .349/.405/.623 slash line, six homers, 29 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 doubles through 27 contests. He's positioned to keep putting up big numbers as the No. 2 hitter for the best offense in the majors.
May 29 2023Seager went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 5-0 victory over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed over a month on the injured list due to a hamstring injury, and since going 0-for-3 in his return, the shortstop has collected 14 hits (eight for extra bases), 18 RBI and eight runs over his past 10 appearances. The 2012 first-round pick signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers following the 2021 campaign and went on to hit a career-high 33 homers in his first season with Texas. He already has five long balls through 22 appearances in 2023, but Seager's shown more diversity at the plate this year, slashing .333/.398/.607 across 84 plate appearances.
May 27 2023Seager went 1-for-4 with a grand slam home run in Friday's 12-2 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched his home run as part of the Rangers' eight-run fourth inning. It was his third home run in eight games since being activated off the injured list. The shortstop has hit safely in six of those eight games, going 10-for-31 (.323) with six extra-base hits, 14 RBI and seven runs scored.
May 21 2023Seager went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 13-3 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Seager's second three-hit effort in a row, and he's homered in each of those contests. The shortstop was back at designated hitter Sunday after playing the field over the previous two contests. He's up to a .382/.455/.673 slash line with three homers, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and seven doubles through 15 games this season.
May 20 2023Seager started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager played the field for the first time since being activated off the injured list. He had served as the designated hitter Wednesday. Seager's double was such that he didn't have to run very hard and eventually scored from third base on a Josh Jung double, so he didn't have to test the hamstring that forced him to miss more than a month.
May 17 2023Seager (hamstring/illness) went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager wasn't able to log a hit in his return from a month-long absence, but he was able to drive in the Rangers' last run in the contest. The 29-year-old was the designated hitter Wednesday, but he shouldn't be too far away from resuming his role as the starting shortstop. Ezequiel Duran filled in nicely during Seager's absence but will likely have to move to third base or designated hitter to maintain an everyday role going forward. Seager is slashing .333/.434/.500 with a home run, five RBI, seven runs scored and no stolen bases through 12 games.
May 16 2023Seager has not been activated off the 10-day injured list because of a stomach bug, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was expected to be activated in the early part of the week from his lengthy IL stint due to a hamstring strain, but the infielder's illness has kept him from returning the lineup. Assuming he feels better in the coming days, Seager should be back and starting for the Rangers at shortstop by the end of the week.
May 15 2023Rangers general manager Chris Young said Seager (hamstring) won't be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday but is expected to return in the next couple of days, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers are beginning a series against Atlanta on Monday and Seager is expected back at some point during the three-game set. He's been on the shelf since April 12 due to a left hamstring strain but recently was able to get through three rehab contests without any problems.
May 14 2023Seager (hamstring) started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Saturday's game for Double-A Frisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager is on a rehab assignment at Frisco and made his third straight start for the RoughRiders. He's started twice at shortstop and once as the designated hitter. Seager hasn't yet played a full nine-inning game, but it's uncertain if that is a criterion for his return to the majors. The Rangers planned to evaluate him following the weekend series and could activate him early this week.
May 10 2023Seager (hamstring) is expected to return "early" during the Rangers' May 15-21 homestand, manager Bruce Bochy told Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Thursday, first playing five innings and building from there. Barring any setbacks, he would seem to have a good shot to return Monday for the start of Texas' homestand. Seager has been out since April 12 due to a left hamstring strain.
May 8 2023Seager (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been on the 10-day injured list since April 12 due to a left hamstring strain, but he continues to make progress in his recovery. Considering he's missed almost a month of action, he'll likely need a handful of contests to get back up to speed before the Rangers activate him.
May 4 2023Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Seager (hamstring) is seven-to-10 days from returning to the lineup. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: That time frame presumably includes a short rehab assignment for Seager, who was seen this week taking grounders with infielders and performing other baseball-related activities. Until his return, Ezequiel Duran should continue to hold down shortstop.
May 1 2023Seager (hamstring) fielded groundballs prior to games Saturday and Sunday, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager began baseball activities last week, initially playing catch and taking soft-toss swings. The work in the field represents a progression in those activities. Next up will be running followed by an expected rehab assignment.
Apr 6 2023Seager went 0-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A strong spring was a hopeful sign that Seager would have a better second season with the Rangers, but the shortstop hasn't sustained the momentum. He's 5-for-23 (.217) with zero extra-base hits, one RBI, three walks and three runs scored through the first six games while hitting out of the No. 2 hole. Seager has a .316 xBA and .476 xSLG, however, suggesting a turnaround could be on the horizon.
Mar 10 2023Seager went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Friday's spring game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Unlike his first season with Texas, when Seager struggled during the spring and had the second-lowest OPS (.772) of his career, the shortstop's having a strong Cactus League in 2023. He's 10-for-21 with a 1.474 OPS, three home runs and eight RBI. He had similarly strong springs in 2020 and 2021 and went on to post a .943 and .915 OPS, respectively.
Oct 5 2022Seager isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will remain on the bench for a second consecutive game to close out the regular season. During his first season with the Rangers, the 28-year-old slashed .245/.317/.455 with 33 homers, 91 runs, 83 RBI and three stolen bases over 151 games. Josh Smith will take over at shortstop and bat fifth Wednesday.
Oct 4 2022Seager is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager went 2-for-4 with a double and a run during the Rangers' loss in the matinee, and he'll head to the bench for Game 2 of the twin bill. Josh Smith will move to shortstop while Kole Calhoun enters the lineup in the outfield.
Oct 2 2022Seager went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has gone 2-for-12 with a walk, four strikeouts and three runs scored in three games since he returned from a forearm bruise. The shortstop cooled off in September, batting .206 for the month. He's now down to a .244/.318/.456 slash line with 33 homers, 83 RBI, 90 runs scored and three stolen bases through 149 contests overall.
Sep 30 2022Seager (forearm) is starting at shortstop and hitting second Friday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He missed a couple games after getting hit by a pitch Tuesday, but fortunately it seems to have been just a bruise. Seager is hitting .202/.257/.362 with three home runs in 23 games this month.
Sep 29 2022Seager (forearm) isn't starting Thursday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been dealing with a bruised left forearm since Tuesday and underwent X-rays that came back negative, but he'll be held out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Josh Smith will take over at shortstop and bat ninth.
Sep 28 2022Seager (forearm) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager suffered a bruised left forearm from a hit-by-pitch Tuesday and will be sidelined for at least one game. The 28-year-old had X-rays come back negative, so he appears to have avoided a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day. Josh Smith will move to shortstop while Kole Calhoun takes Seager's spot in the lineup.
Sep 27 2022Seager was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mariners after being hit by a pitch in the left forearm, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old initially remained in the game after being struck by a 91-mph pitch during the eighth inning, but he was replaced for a pinch runner as a visible bruise formed on his forearm. Seager went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts prior to leaving the contest, and he's likely to undergo X-rays to help determine the extent of the injury.
Sep 22 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager took Jose Quijada yard in the eighth inning to record his 32nd homer of the season. He has gone deep three times in his last eight starts, also tallying eight RBI and eight runs scored in that span. Seager has put together an excellent campaign, maintaining a .246/.329/.461 line across 625 appearances.
Sep 17 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager didn't allow the Rangers to waste a two-on, two-out situation in the fourth, delivering both runners with a double. He hasn't hit well during September, batting .169, but he's had key hits and knocked in nine runs over 14 games this month. For the season, Seager has a .918 OPS with runners in scoring position.
Sep 13 2022Seager is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's just a scheduled day off for Seager, who reached the 30-homer mark for the first time in his career Monday. Josh Smith will get the start at shortstop, hitting eighth.
Sep 12 2022Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run in Monday's 4-1 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's run was his 79th of the season, leaving him five behind Marcus Semien for the team lead. Though he's batting a career-worst .248 in his first season in Texas, Seager has enjoyed good health in 2022 and has lived up to expectations from a counting-stats perspective with 29 home runs, 74 RBI and three stolen bases to go along with his run total. He's included in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Marlins, starting at shortstop while batting second.
Aug 31 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager took Cristian Javier yard in the first inning to tally his 29th homer of the season. He has at least one hit in 10 of his last 13 starts, racking up 10 RBI and 12 runs scored in that span. For the season, Seager is hitting .255/.331/.475, and he has already set a career-high for long balls in a campaign.
Aug 28 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with two homers, three runs scored, three RBI and a walk in a 9-8 loss Sunday against Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager did his best to bring the Rangers back from a 9-0 deficit, launching a solo homer in the sixth to get the scoring started, walking and scoring in the eighth and adding a two-run blast in the ninth to bring Texas within one run. The homers were his 27th and 28th long balls of the season, eclipsing his previous career-best of 26. In August he has a .284/.368/.480 line with five homers and a 12:15 BB:K in 26 games.
Aug 24 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored Tuesday against Colorado. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager managed his first multi-RBI game since Aug. 9 but scored multiple runs in each of the Rangers' games at Coors Field. He's also riding a five-game hitting streak, and he's recorded multiple knocks on three occasions in that span. Overall, Seager has maintained a .257/.333/.467 line across 520 plate appearances on the season.
Aug 15 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager crossed the plate on a heads-up play in the fifth inning when Logan Gilbert threw a wild pitch, then again in the seventh on an Adolis Garcia single. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager belted his 26th home run of the season on an 0-1 pitch from Marco Gonzales for his 59th RBI and 61st run scored. The home-run total matches his career high from 2016. Seager was hitting .232 through the end of May, but his average is creeping higher as the season matures. The 28-year-old shortstop is now slashing .252/.331/.475 on the year and has an .805 OPS.
Aug 10 2022Seager went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to Houston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The muscle at the top of the batting order gave the Rangers an early lead. In addition to Seager's third-inning blast, Marcus Semien (first inning) and Adolis Garcia (fifth inning) homered off Jose Urquidy, but Martin Perez could not hold the lead. The homer was the 25th for Seager, who upped his line to .250/.329/.475 over 103 games.
Aug 2 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-2 loss to Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed the last three games with a leg injury and it was speculated he'd need a stint on the injured list, but he was back at it Monday despite not being fully healthy. He served as the designated hitter while Marcus Semien handled shortstop. The homer was Seager's team-leading 24th.
Aug 1 2022Seager (lower leg) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was reported Sunday that Seager could land on the injured list, but he is apparently feeling good enough not only to avoid an IL stint but to return to action one day later. Seager will hit second Monday night, but he will serve as the designated hitter rather than start at shortstop like he usually does.
Jul 31 2022Seager (lower leg) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll be on the bench for the third game in a row with a right leg contusion, and the Rangers aren't yet dismissing the possibility of the three-time All-Star requiring a stint on the injured list, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Though Grant speculates that Seager could be available as a designated hitter for Monday's game against the Orioles, an IL stint would grow likelier if the 28-year-old remains out of the lineup.
Jul 30 2022Seager (lower leg) could require a stint on the injured list, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager exited Thursday's game after fouling a ball off his leg, though the team downplayed the nature of the injury. However, he hasn't been in the lineup since, and on Saturday manager Chris Woodward said that Seager's availability is "hour by hour." Ezequiel Duran and Charlie Culberson have picked up playing time in Seager's absence.
Jul 29 2022Seager is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels and is officially listed as day-to-day with a right leg contusion, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He exited Thursday's game after fouling a ball off his leg. It is fortunately just a bruise, so Seager should avoid a trip to the injured list. Marcus Semien and Charlie Culberson will start in the middle infield.
Jul 28 2022Seager left Thursday's game against the Angels after fouling a ball off his leg, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager exited in the fifth inning and was diagnosed with a lower-leg contusion. His removal was described by the team as precautionary. Elier Hernandez entered the game to play left field, while Josh Smith shifted to second base and Marcus Semien to shortstop.
Jul 25 2022Seager went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's 11-8 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager led off the fifth inning with his eighth home run during the month of July and 23rd of the season. The shortstop is on pace to smash the career-high 26 blasts hit in 2017, thanks in part to career highs in launch angle (14.7 degrees) and sweet spot percentage (41.3%).
Jul 23 2022Seager went 0-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager made his first start post break after sitting out Thursday's game. Presumably, he was given an extra day because he participated in the All-Star festivities, taking part in the Home Run Derby.
Jul 21 2022Seager is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game in Miami. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will get a breather for the Rangers' first game of the second half after he appeared in the All-Star Game on Tuesday on the other side of the country. Marcus Semien will slide over to shortstop while Charlie Culberson enters the lineup at second base and bats ninth Thursday.
Jul 13 2022Seager went 1-for-5 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 14-7 extra-innings loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's solo shot was responsible for the first of two runs scored in the bottom of the ninth that sent the game into extras. He's homered in five consecutive games and six of the last seven. Seager's enjoying his first year at Globe Life Field, belting 15 of his 21 homers in Arlington.
Jul 11 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 10-8 win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager displayed his power all weekend and carried it over to Monday. This was his fourth straight game with a homer, and he's gotten on base multiple times in six of his last seven games. The shortstop's power binge has earned him his third career 20-homer season, and he's added 46 RBI, 44 runs scored, three stolen bases and a .245/.319/.463 slash line through 82 contests.
Jul 10 2022Seager went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has turned up his power and hitting in the last week, posting five multi-hit efforts in his last six games. He's gone 11-for-22 (.500) with four homers, nine RBI and six runs scored in that span. Prior to this surge, the shortstop's first year with the Rangers had looked rather disappointing, but he's now slashing .245/.317/.456 in 81 contests. He's added 19 long balls, 45 RBI, 43 runs scored, three stolen bases and 10 doubles. Seager's career high in homers is 26 during the 2016 season, and that's a mark he should have a chance to shatter over the second half of this campaign.
Jul 8 2022Seager went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Friday's 6-5 win over Minnesota. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager drilled his home run off of Caleb Thielbar as part of the Rangers' six-run fifth inning. He's 5-for-12 with two homers and six RBI over his last three games, improving his season slash line to .237/.308/.433 through 347 plate appearances. He's up to 17 long balls this year, surpassing his 2021 total in 16 fewer games.
Jul 5 2022Seager went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored during Tuesday's extra-inning loss at Baltimore. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager came through with an RBI single during the fifth inning, singled and scored in the eighth and crushed a two-run homer in the ninth to briefly give Texas a 9-8 lead. The 28-year-old ended a 12-game stretch without a long ball and now has 16 for the season. He's slashing .236/.307/.426 with 39 RBI and 40 runs through 77 contests.
Jun 29 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a run in an 8-3 win over the Royals on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager helped the Rangers knock opposing starter Jonathan Heasley from the game in the fourth inning by doubling to left center to drive in a pair of baserunners. Although he's a career .290 hitter, Seager is only sporting a .231 average in 281 at-bats this season. At least for the time being, the veteran shortstop appears to have swapped out his tendency to hit for average in exchange for power; he already has 15 homers on the season, putting him well in pace to exceed the career-high 26 he slugged in 2016 if he remains healthy.
Jun 18 2022Seager went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager entered Friday's game with a disappointing .222 batting average, but raised it to .228 after his two-hit performance against the Tigers. The shortstop now has two multi-hit games in his last five and has at least one hit in six of his last eight games. Seager still has some work to do to fulfill expectations of both the Rangers and fantasy managers as his June slash line sits at .213/.290/.361.
Jun 15 2022Seager went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager took Luis Garcia yard in the third inning to record his 13th home run of the season. He has at least one hit in five of his last six games, racking up two home runs, a double, four RBI and three runs scored in that span. Seager is hitting a disappointing .224 on the season, though he is striking out at just a 17.3 percent clip and has a .223 BABIP.
Jun 11 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-3 loss to the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager returned to the lineup after getting a break Thursday amid a 1-for-20 slide. The slump continued over his first three plate appearances Friday, before Seager swatted an eighth-inning homer, his team-leading 12th.
Jun 2 2022Seager is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will get his first day off since April 17, going 7-for-22 with three homers, four RBI, five runs and a stolen base over his last five games. Marcus Semien will slide over to shortstop while Charlie Culberson will enter the lineup at second base and bat ninth.
Jun 1 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Both Seager and Adolis Garcia bopped homers in the fourth inning to account for all of the Rangers' scoring. The shortstop is up to 11 homers after hitting three over the last four games.
May 29 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager went 0-for-9 in the first two games of this series against the A's, but he went 4-for-8 with a pair of homers and a double in the most recent two contests. The shortstop's lone hit Sunday came in the first inning. He's up to 10 homers, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases while maintaining a .237/.306/.435 slash line in 196 plate appearances this year.
May 18 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 10-5 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched his team-leading eighth homer in the first inning off Reid Detmers, giving Texas an early lead. He later initiated a comeback with a leadoff double in the eighth, setting the stage for a seven-run inning. Seager is batting .242 (32-for-132) for a team that ranks 27th in MLB with a .219 average.
May 11 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After swatting two long balls Tuesday, Seager went hitless over his first three plate appearances Wednesday. However, he launched a 420-foot shot to center field in the ninth inning to finish the game on a high note. Seager's power has mostly come in bunches this season -- he swatted a long ball in three straight games over the final days of April and now has three homers over his past two contests. Six of seven home runs on the season have been of the solo variety.
May 1 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a 3-1 victory versus the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager got the scoring started for the Rangers with a 406-foot blast to right field in the first inning. The star shortstop has gone deep in each of his past three contests following an 11-game homer drought between April 15 and 27. Seager is tied for the team lead with four home runs and ranks second with 12 RBI on the season.
Apr 30 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Will Smith deep in the eighth inning for the game's final run. Seager has been up and down to begin his stint with the Rangers, but the 28-year-old has homered in back-to-back games to give him three long balls on the season, and he's batting a cool .300 (6-for-20) over the last five contests.
Apr 17 2022Seager is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager started the first eight games of the season but will receive his first day off for the series finale versus the Halos. Marcus Semien will shift over to shortstop while Charlie Culberson starts at the keystone Sunday.
Apr 16 2022Seager went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: During the Rangers' five-run fourth inning, Angels manager Joe Maddon had Seager intentionally walked with the bases loaded, just the third time that's happened in the modern era. He's now hit safely in six of seven games played. Of Texas' two major free-agent signings, Seager (.861 OPS, six RBI) is outperforming Marcus Semien (.379 OPS, one RBI).
Apr 14 2022Seager went 2-for-4 with a home run, walk and three RBI in a 10-5 win Thursday over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager hit a two-run home run in the fourth and a RBI single in the fifth. It was his first home run as a Ranger. The two-time All-Star signed a 10-year, $325 million contract in the offseason and has started strong with four multi-hit games in the first six games.
Apr 11 2022Seager will start at shortstop and bat second in Monday's game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will hit out of the two hole for the second straight contest -- both of which have come against lefty starting pitchers -- after he previously slotted third in the order against right-handers in the first two contests. The 27-year-old has thus far lived up to the 10-year, $325 million megadeal he inked over the winter, as he's opened his tenure with the Rangers with three consecutive two-hit games while scoring three times and driving in two runs.
Mar 19 2022Seager went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's spring game against Kansas City. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers showcased their major offseason acquisitions Friday with Seager batting second behind Marcus Semien at leadoff. Each made his Cactus League debut. Seager had his most plate appearances in 2021 out of the two-hole for the Dodgers.
Nov 29 2021Seager agreed to a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The signing completes a $500 million renovation of the Rangers' middle infield, as the team gave $175 million to second baseman Marcus Semien on Sunday. Injuries are just about the only concern for Seager, who hit .306/.381/.545 with 31 homers in 147 games across the last two years. His combination of quantity and quality of contact is a rare one. Among players with at least 400 plate appearances last season, only Juan Soto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Manny Machado could match both his 16.1 percent strikeout rate and his 12.4 percent barrel rate. That suggests he should still be able to be a productive player over the back half of his deal when he eventually moves off of shortstop, something which should still be a few years away for the 27-year-old.
Nov 7 2021Seager will decline the Dodgers' qualifying offer, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was a forgone conclusion, as Seager is headed for a big payday in free agency. The shortstop options on the open market are as good as ever, with Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Javier Baez and Marcus Semien all available this winter.
Oct 3 2021Seager went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI in Sunday's 10-3 triumph over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Continuing a scorching final month, Seager singled in the first, fourth and fifth innings before being lifted in the seventh once Los Angeles' postseason fate was decided. The 27-year-old shortstop wraps up the season with a .306/.394/.521 slash line, 16 home runs, 54 runs and 57 RBI in 94 games.
Sep 30 2021Seager went 3-for-4 with a double and two solo home runs in an 8-3 triumph over San Diego on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager went back-to-back with Mookie Betts to lead off the home half of the first inning, doubled in the third and launched another homer in the seventh for his third three-hit game this month. The shortstop has been raking of late, going 14-for-29 with three doubles, a triple and four home runs over his past seven games and posted a whopping 1.153 OPS in 26 September contests.
Sep 27 2021Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and a walk Sunday in a 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was the star of the show offensively for Los Angeles in the win, belting a solo shot to left field in the first inning and booming a massive 464-foot blast to right field in the third. The multi-homer game was the first of the campaign for the shortstop, who missed over two months earlier this season due to a broken hand. Seager has enjoyed a red-hot September, slashing .350/.448/.588 with five long balls, 14 RBI and a 15:7 BB:K through 23 games.
Sep 23 2021Seager went 4-for-5 with two RBI on Thursday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager delivered a two-run single in the second inning to put the Dodgers up 3-0. He has collected at least one hit in eight of his last 10 starts, four of which have been multi-hit efforts. He's also racked up two home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored in that span. For the season, Seager is now hitting .289/.381/.456 across 370 plate appearances.
Sep 19 2021Seager went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two walks in Sunday's 8-5 win over Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager drilled a two-run shot in the third inning and later drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth. Over the last seven games, he's gone 9-for-27 (.333) with two home runs and five RBI. For the year, Seager is slashing .285/.379/.459 with 31 extra-base hits and 46 RBI through 356 plate appearances.
Sep 12 2021Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-0 win against the Padres on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager opened the game's scoring with his fourth-inning solo shot to left off Dinelson Lamet. The 27-year-old shortstop has cooled a bit of late but is still slashing .333/.439/.576 in 11 September games.
Sep 4 2021Seager went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Saturday's 6-1 triumph over San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager brought a run home with his first-inning sacrifice fly and later provided an insurance run with a solo blast in the ninth. After hitting four home runs in April, Seager now has another four since Aug. 10 to give him eight on the season and is slashing an excellent .282/.372/.466 despite the lack of power.
Aug 30 2021Seager went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 5-3 triumph over Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager accounted for Los Angeles' final two runs in the game with his third-inning long ball off Atlanta starter Drew Smyly. The blast was Seager's seventh on the season and first since Aug. 10 as his current .439 slugging and .802 OPS would be career lows for a full season if they hold.
Aug 28 2021Seager will sit Saturday against Colorado, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Trea Turner will slide to shortstop with Mookie Betts moving in to start at second base. While that will be Saturday's arrangement, the arrival of Turner hasn't meaningfully cut into Seager's playing time, as his off day Saturday is just the second since Turner was acquired at the trade deadline.
Aug 19 2021Seager went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop knocked in a run with a first-inning single, then plated the Dodgers' final runs with a two-run homer in the sixth frame. Seager's homer was just his sixth of the campaign and second since returning from a broken right hand July 30. Though the power hasn't been there, Seager has hit well since that time, slashing .333/.403/.540 with seven doubles and 13 runs over 17 games.
Aug 16 2021Seager is not in the lineup Monday against the Mets, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will receive a day off after starting the past 12 games and posting an .872 OPS during that stretch. Trea Turner will shift to shortstop while Max Muncy and Albert Pujols start at second and first base, respectively.
Aug 10 2021Seager went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored Tuesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager opened the scoring for the Dodgers with a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning. It was his fifth homer of the season and first since he was activated from the injured list July 30. In nine games since, he's recorded at least one hit on six occasion and also has four multi-hit efforts. Though he's lacked power in that span, Seager's performance hasn't indicated much after over a two-month absence.
Jul 31 2021Seager will sit Saturday against the Diamondbacks, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager missed two-and-a-half months with a broken right hand before returning to action Friday. He grabbed two hits in that game, but it's no surprise to see that he won't be asked to start two games in a row immediately after such a long absence. It shouldn't be long before he returns to a true everyday role, but it will be Chris Taylor who starts at shortstop Saturday.
Jul 30 2021Seager (hand) was activated and will start at shortstop Friday against the Diamondbacks, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers have amassed a super team since Seager last played, but he will have to wait until Trea Turner is activated from the COVID-19 injured list before forming one of the most dynamic double-play duos in recent memory. Seager has been out since May 15 with a broken hand and is hitting .265/.361/.422 on the season.
Jul 28 2021Seager's (hand) recovery has progressed well, and he is hoping to be activated from the injured list during the team's weekend series against Arizona, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has been sidelined since mid-May due to the fracture in his right hand. He is currently playing in simulated games at the team's spring training facility in Arizona and has not experienced any soreness for several days. It was previously reported that Seager would need a rehab assignment in addition to the simulated game action, though it appears that plan may have now changed.
Jul 25 2021Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Seager (hand) will "most likely" require a minor-league rehab assignment before being reinstated from the 60-day injured list, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager continues to progress in his recovery from the fractured right hand, as he was spotted Sunday at Dodger Stadium fielding grounders and throwing from shortstop. While the Dodgers head to San Francisco on Tuesday for the start of a three-game series, Seager is expected to report to the team's spring training facility in Arizona to play in at least a couple of simulated games. If all goes well, Seager would presumably be ready to begin a rehab assignment during the upcoming weekend, which would likely rule out a return from the IL before the end of July. Seager still looks to be in good shape to be activated in the first week of August.
Jul 24 2021Seager (hand) has been swinging and moving around, but manager Dave Roberts indicated Friday that he has no update on when the shortstop may be activated or whether he'll go on a rehab assignment, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: There were whispers early this week that Seager could rejoin the Dodgers as soon as Wednesday, but that proved to be an inaccurate estimate. Seager continues to take part in baseball activities and doesn't appear to have suffered a setback, so it's unclear why his return date remains a mystery. The 2020 World Series MVP still seems likely to return to game action soon, but it's uncertain whether he'll jump right back into fold with the Dodgers or head out on a rehab assignment first.
Jul 20 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Seager (hand) "feels good" but remains without a set date to be activated from the injured list, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Roberts indicated Monday that the star shortstop could be activated as early as Wednesday, but it doesn't appear that's going to come to fruition. Seager figures to continue ramping up in simulated games until he's cleared to rejoin the active roster.
Jul 19 2021Seager (hand) could be activated from the injured list as early as Wednesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Dave Roberts said the 27-year-old is scheduled to be evaluated Tuesday, and the shortstop could rejoin the active roster Wednesday if the evaluation goes well. Seager has been sidelined since mid-May with a fractured right hand, and he's been recently taking part in simulated games. The Dodgers could opt to send him on a rehab assignment if they deem he's not quite ready for major-league action.
Jul 17 2021Seager (hand) won't return from the injured list Monday but will participate in another simulated game that day, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager homered in a simulated game Saturday but did not play the field. He'll take batting practice Sunday and appear in another simulated game Monday, but it doesn't look as though he'll be out too much longer past that point.
Jul 11 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Seager (hand) will take at-bats during simulated games at the club's spring training facility in Arizona next weekend, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Roberts said that the club has yet to schedule a rehab assignment for the shortstop, though the skipper indicated that he's hopeful Seager will be ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point during the Dodgers' four-game home series with the Giants that begins July 19, according to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. The 27-year-old has been on the shelf since suffering a right hand fracture on May 15.
Jul 6 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Seager (hand) has resumed swinging and is expected to begin a rehab assignment some time shortly after the All-Star break, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was initially hoping to return to the Dodgers' lineup in early July but that return timeline went away when soreness emerged in his right hand at the end of June. The shortstop beginning to swing again marks a big step forward as he continues to target a mid-July return. If he is indeed able to start a rehab at the end of next week, it seems possible that he could be activated as soon as July 19 against the Giants.
Jul 1 2021Manager Dave Roberts is hopeful that Seager (hand) could return right after the All-Star break, which ends July 16, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday after he was shut down from hitting recently. While Roberts was hopeful that the shortstop could return shortly after the All-Star break, he isn't certain of the 27-year-old's timeline following the move to the 60-day IL. A better idea of Seager's status could be revealed once he's able to resume baseball activities.
Jun 30 2021The Dodgers transferred Seager (hand) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's fractured right hand has kept him out of action since May 15, and after recently suffering a setback in his recovery, he wasn't on track to return from the 10-day IL prior to the All-Star break. As a result, the Dodgers' decision to transfer Seager to the 60-day IL is merely a formality that won't affect his timeline for a return. The Dodgers likely won't be able to outline a clear target date for Seager to come off the IL until he's cleared to resume baseball activities again.
Jun 28 2021Seager (hand) has been experiencing soreness when swinging a bat and has been shut down from hitting for now, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Dave Roberts stated that Seager's hand "just isn't responding" as the team had hoped, and as a result, he hasn't swung a bat since last week, per DiGiovanna. "We're going to put hitting on back-burner and slow play it right now," stated Roberts. At this point, there is no clear timetable for Seager's return to the field.
Jun 27 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Seager no longer has a timetable for a return after lingering soreness has emerged in his right hand, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was hoping to begin a minor-league rehab assignment over the weekend, but Roberts said he won't do so until the hand soreness subsides. The shortstop was targeting an early July return from the hand fracture, but now there's no clear time frame for when Seager could be activated. Gavin Lux will continue to serve as the club's primary shortstop during Seager's absence.
Jun 26 2021Seager (hand) worked out at Dodger Stadium on Friday, fielding ground balls and making throws from shortstop, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: While Seager's workout suggests that his broken right hand has been healing as hoped, it's also a reminder that the shortstop isn't quite ready for a weekend rehab assignment as previously planned. In fact, according to MLB.com, Seager will remain with the Dodgers during their current homestand, which runs until Tuesday. He could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment shortly thereafter, and there remains a good chance that he'll be back with the big club in early July.
Jun 24 2021Seager (hand) remains on track to return in early July, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Dave Roberts said that "everything is where it needs to be" in regards to Seager's rehab. Even so, it's no surprise that the team is taking a cautious approach with its star shortstop, as he recently had his return to game action pushed back. Seager will now reportedly begin a rehab assignment as soon as June 28.
Jun 21 2021Seager (hand) won't start a rehab assignment until next Monday, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had previously indicated that Seager could start up a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Friday, but the skipper indicated Monday that the shortstop will instead wait until early next week to return to game action. There is nothing to suggest that Seager has suffered a setback, and the delay could simply have to do with the shortstop's desire to work on a few things at the Dodgers' training facility in Arizona, as reported by Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. Seager remains on track for a return to the big club in early July.
Jun 20 2021Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Seager (hand) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Friday or Saturday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's fractured right hand apparently held up well when he resumed taking batting practice Friday, so assuming he incurs no setbacks in his workouts over the next few days, he looks like he''ll be cleared for game action by the end of the week. Because Seager has been sidelined since May 15 with the injured hand, he'll likely spend the entire weekend at a minor-league affiliate, but if all goes well, he could be cleared to rejoin the big club early next week. Before suffering the injury, Seager was hitting .265 with four home runs and one stolen base through 37 games.
Jun 18 2021Seager (hand) will take batting practice Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager will take part in batting practice for the first time since he broke his hand in mid-May. If all goes well, the shortstop is expected to begin a rehab assignment early next week, Castillo reports. The 27-year-old will likely require multiple rehab games but could be on track to be reinstated from the injured list in late June or early July.
Jun 16 2021Seager (hand) is expected to hit in Arizona this weekend and begin his rehab assignment late next week, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This will mark a notable step in Seager's quicker-than-expected recovery from a fractured right hand, which he suffered when getting hit by a pitch May 15. Considering the length of his absence, the shortstop figures to require multiple rehab games before being activated, so a late-June return remains realistic.
Jun 13 2021Seager (hand) is expected to take on-field batting practice sometime next week, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Dave Roberts recently indicated that Seager's hand is healing more quickly than expected, and the fact that the shortstop is around the corner from a return to batting practice certainly supports that statement. Seager will need to go on a rehab assignment before rejoining the big club, so early July still seems to be the most likely timeframe for his return.
Jun 11 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Seager (hand) is about two weeks from beginning a rehab assignment, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Per Juan Toribio of MLB.com, Seager has begun hitting tennis balls with both hands and could transition to hitting baseballs within the next few days. The shortstop's rehab assignment is expected to take about a week once it begins, so taking Roberts's update into account, he remains on track to rejoin the Los Angeles lineup in early-July.
Jun 8 2021Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that an early July return for Seager (hand) is a "totally fair" timeline for the shortstop, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Roberts said earlier Tuesday that the shortstop's fractured right hand is healing faster than he expected. While the skipper didn't necessarily rule out Seager being activated by the end of the month, the club appears to have its eyes set on the beginning of July as a likely return to the Dodgers' lineup.
Jun 5 2021Seager has had no problems in his recovery from a broken right hand, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The shortstop explained Saturday that he has been undergoing weekly scans on his hand to ensure that healing is happening as hoped. There have been no setbacks so far, and Seager has progressed to throwing and squeezing a bat with his injured right hand. He has yet to swing a bat with both hands, though, and he remains multiple weeks away from a return.
Jun 3 2021Seager (hand) will travel with the Dodgers on their upcoming six-game road trip, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager recently shed his cast and has been fielding grounders with just his glove hand, per Matthew Moreno of Dodger Blue, but he is still wearing a splint. The shortstop has been able to take part in some baseball activities, though he's isn't yet able to take two-handed swings. Seager remains at least two weeks away from a return.
May 27 2021Seager (hand) was wearing a splint on his hand while running the bases prior to the Thursday's game, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager had been wearing a cast to protect his right hand, so there has apparently been some progress in his recovery. Even so, he'll be out until at least the middle of June according to the original timeline given by the club. Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor should continue to fill in at shortstop.
May 16 2021Seager won't require surgery but will miss at least four weeks after fracturing the fifth metacarpal on his right hand, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old is sporting a splint on his right hand after being hit by a pitch Saturday, and he's now on the injured list for the foreseeable future. Gavin Lux is expected to see the bulk of the time at shortstop in Seager's absence, with Chris Taylor also in the mix.

May 10 2021Seager went 3-for-5 with a double in the Dodgers' loss to the Angels on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers were quiet offensively Sunday as Seager totaled three of the team's four hits. It was the second game in a row that he tallied three hits. He reached base safely eight times in the weekend series against the Angels. The 27-year-old is slashing .273/.388/.447 in a team-leading 152 plate appearances. He's been patient in drawing 18 walks to go along with four home runs, 19 runs and 19 RBI.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's highlight of the night came in the seventh inning, when he crushed a hanging slider from Amir Garrett over the wall in center to tie the game at three and eventually send it into extra innings. Monday was his third consecutive multi-hit performance, a stretch that's boosted his slash line to .275/.359/.495 with four home runs, 14 runs scored and 17 RBI to go along with a 12:18 BB:K.
Apr 20 2021Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's only hard contact of the night came in the third inning when he took Justus Sheffield deep to center field to cut the Dodgers' deficit to 3-2. He had a chance to make some more noise with two men on and one out in the ninth but grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game. The long ball has been Seager's only source of production lately, as the 26-year-old has just two hits (both home runs) in his last 18 at-bats. He'll look to get things rolling again in Tuesday's series finale before the Padres come to town Thursday for a highly anticipated four-game series.
Apr 17 2021Seager went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's extra-innings win over the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager finally got on the board with his first long ball of the campaign -- the first of four Dodgers home runs Tuesday. He entered this game with just one extra-base hit in his last five games, but after this showing, Seager is up to a .366 average and 1.030 OPS.
Apr 5 2021Seager went 1-for-5 with three RBI and a walk in Monday's win over the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager struck out three times and didn't have his best game at the plate, but he made his presence felt with the only knock he got -- he scored Chris Taylor, Edwin Rios and Mookie Betts with a three-run double in the top of the second inning. This was Seager's first single-hit game of the campaign, but the star shortstop has gotten off to a strong start -- going 9-for-17 with three doubles and six RBI over his first four games of the campaign.

Mar 29 2021Seager went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run off Andrew Heaney in the Dodgers' 6-5 exhibition win over the Angels on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager has ridden the wave from his massive postseason into spring training. After slugging eight home runs over his 18 playoff appearances in the Dodgers' run to the World Series last fall, the shortstop has now left the yard seven times through 20 Cactus League contests. Even if more of those home runs begin to turn into doubles once the regular season begins, Seager's standing as the No. 2 hitter in a deep lineup behind standout leadoff man Mookie Betts should put the 26-year-old is good position to surpass his previous career high in RBI (87 in 2019).

Oct 19 2020Seager went hitless across five at-bats in the Dodgers' 4-3 win over the Braves in Game 7 of the series. He was named the NLCS MVP as Los Angeles advanced to the World Series. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he finished the series with a relative whimper, Seager was the catalyst for the Los Angeles offense in the prior six games, during which he reached base at a .400 clip while mashing five home runs and two doubles and driving in 11 runs. The home run and RBI totals were the most by any player in a single postseason series in National League history.

Oct 1 2020Seager went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Wednesday's Game 1 victory over the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He took Freddy Peralta deep in the seventh inning to give the Dodgers an insurance run. That blast ended up being the last score of a 4-2 win. Seager and Mookie Betts did most of the damage for the Dodgers out of the first two spots in the lineup.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old was scratched from Friday's contest with lower-back discomfort and hasn't seen the field since, though he was able to run, take swings and play catch Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was held out of Sunday's win against the Diamondbacks, but manager Dave Roberts said after the game that he received treatment for his quad issue. If Seager shifts to the designated hitter role while he recovers, Chris Taylor would be the most likely candidate to see time at shortstop.
Jul 31 2020Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched a home run for the third consecutive game to give the Dodgers some insurance in the eighth inning, though Los Angeles ultimately came up short. Across eight games this season, Seager leads his teammates in average (.344), hits (11), on-base percentage (.417) and homers (three).
Jul 30 2020Seager went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and a walk during Thursday's victory over the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched a solo homer off Robbie Ray to lead off the second inning. He added another run with an RBI groundout in the fifth, and walked in the seventh. The long ball was the 26-year-old's second in as many games after hitting his first of the season during Wednesday's win over the Astros.
Jul 25 2020Seager went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a walk in Friday's victory over San Francisco. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager tied for fourth in the majors with 44 doubles last season, and he has picked up where he left off by registering a two-bagger in each of his first two games in 2020. The 26-year-old has a favorable spot in the middle of the Dodgers' loaded lineup and based on pure talent alone could stake his claim as one of the league's most productive shortstops now that he is back to full health.
Jul 21 2020Seager went 3-for-3 with a double and scored two runs in Monday's exhibition contest against Arizona. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager hit .385 during spring training and has carried over that momentum to summer camp, drawing frequent praise from manager Dave Roberts, among others. Seager will hit in the middle of the Dodgers' loaded lineup this season and could be a solid source of both batting average and RBI during the shortened campaign.
Mar 31 2020Seager slashed .385/.448/.577 with three extra-base hits and a 1.025 OPS over 29 plate appearances before spring training was suspended. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite hitting only 19 home runs last season, Seager enjoyed an understated campaign as he tied for the National League lead with 44 doubles while driving in a career-high 87 runs. He'll fill a near-everyday role at shortstop for the Dodgers when the regular season commences.
Jan 10 2020Seager signed a one-year, $7.6 million contract with the Dodgers on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager's salary will nearly double in 2020, following a season in which he slashed .272/.335/.483 with 19 home runs and 87 RBI over 134 games. He'll open the season as the starting shortstop for Los Angeles.
Sep 28 2019Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a victory over the Giants on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager sat out Thursday's game with a tight hamstring but was back in the lineup Friday, drilling a solo shot to right field in the second inning. The shortstop is ending the regular season on a high note with a .304/.337/.646 slash line, seven homers and 23 RBI in September.
Sep 27 2019Seager (hamstring) is starting at shortstop and batting fifth Friday against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager left Wednesday's matchup due to left hamstring tightness, but he's been cleared to return to action for the final weekend of the regular season. He's currently in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak and is slashing .459/.487/.784 with two home runs and nine RBI over that stretch.
Sep 26 2019Seager (hamstring) is expected to return to the lineup against the Giants on Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager was removed from Wednesday's contest against San Diego as a precautionary measure after feeling tightness in his left hamstring. Manager Dave Roberts indicated after the game that he isn't worried about Seager's hamstring: He said that the shortstop will be held out Thursday but is likely to be back in the lineup for the opener of a three-game series that begins Friday. The Dodgers have no motivation to rush Seager back after having already clinched home-field advantage through the NLCS, so his availability for Friday suggests that the issue is indeed minor.
Sep 25 2019Seager was removed from Wednesday's game against the Padres with left hamstring tightness, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers labeled the 25-year-old's exit as precautionary, but it remains a concerning development since he missed a month earlier in the season with a strain to the same hamstring. The team figures to remain cautious with Seager over the final four games of the regular season with home-field advantage already locked up.
Sep 24 2019Seager was named National League Player of the Week on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager slashed .500/.524/1.000 with two homers and seven RBI for the week to earn the honor. He has gone exactly 2-for-4 in each of his last six games, approaching the franchise record of nine consecutive multi-hit games set by Pee Wee Reese in 1949. Seager is in the midst of his best month at the plate, batting .300 with six homers and 21 RBI through 18 games in September.
Sep 22 2019Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a victory over Colorado on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager collected his second hit of the game with a 428-foot shot to right center field in the seventh inning. The 25-year-old has now registered exactly two hits in each of his last six games, hitting an even .500 (12-for-24) with a pair of homers and eight RBI over that span. Seager is slashing .273/.336/.478 with 18 homers and 82 RBI in 129 games overall this season.
Sep 21 2019Seager went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and a run scored in Saturdays' 4-2 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After Cody Bellinger reached on an error in the fourth inning, Seager ripped his first triple of the year to bring the star home. Seager himself would score on Russell Martin's single for the Dodgers' last run in the contest. The shortstop has gone hot lately, going 13-for-28 over his last seven games with a homer, seven RBI and five runs scored in that span. He's hitting .271 on the year with 17 homers, 81 RBI and 78 runs scored in 128 games.
Sep 20 2019Seager went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager cut the Dodgers' deficit in half with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Luckily they won by a lofty final score of 12-5. The long ball was Seager's 17th of the year while batting .269/.333/.467.
Sep 18 2019Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI in a win over the Rays on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager plated two runs with a double in the fifth inning and repeated the feat in the seventh. The 25-year-old has hit 41 two-baggers this season and has produced the last two 40-plus doubles tallies on the Dodgers, having previously achieved the feat in 2016.
Sep 10 2019Seager went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI on Tuesday against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager paced the Dodgers' offense Tuesday, first driving a 419-foot three-run homer in the first frame. He followed that up with a two-run shot just two innings later, bringing his season total to 16. While his overall body of work has been a disappointment, Seager now was three long balls in his past seven starts. He'll look to keep improving on his .263/.329/.463 line to close the campaign.
Sep 8 2019Seager went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in a victory over San Francisco on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Seager launched a 415-foot shot to center field in the fifth inning to stake the Dodgers to a five-run lead. The long ball snapped a 1-for-17 cold snap that included four strikeouts. Seager has rebounded from last year's Tommy John and hip surgeries to post a .261/.328/.450 slash line with 14 homers, 39 doubles and 69 RBI in 118 games.
Sep 2 2019Seager went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run, two runs scored and four RBI to help the Dodgers to a 16-9 win over the Rockies on Monday.
Sep 1 2019Seager is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Arizona, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

May 12 2018Seager was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday. The move has no effect on Seager's timeline, as he's already out for the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. By clearing a spot on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers were able to select the contract of reliever Pat Venditte.
May 5 2018Seager (elbow) had successful Tommy John surgery Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager is expected to make a full recovery, but won't get to prove it until next year, as he's already been ruled out for the season. Chris Taylor should receive the majority of starts at shortstop for the remainder of the season.
Apr 30 2018Seager was diagnosed with a sprained UCL on Monday. He will undergo Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. This is an absolutely brutal blow for the Dodgers and Seager, who was placed on the disabled list Monday as a result of the injury. He dealt with an elbow injury towards the end of last season but ultimately opted to forgo offseason surgery. The issue stuck with him at the start of spring training, but it was thought to be behind him heading into the season before the ailment ultimately proved bothersome enough to require the season-ending procedure. Seager was hitting .267/.348/.396 with two homers through 26 games before his season came to an end. Chris Taylor is starting at shortstop in his stead Monday and will likely stick there for the remainder of the season.
Apr 30 2018Seager (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. After undergoing Tommy John surgery, Seager will begin a lengthy rehab process. Per Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are hoping that Seager will be in full health by Opening Day for the 2019 season. With Seager out for the rest of the year, Chris Taylor will move from center field to shortstop.
Apr 30 2018Seager is not on the lineup card for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Chris Taylor is starting at shortstop in his place, while Breyvic Valera is with the team. There has been no indication that Seager is dealing with any type of injury at this point, but his absence from the lineup card hints at a roster move, which could ultimately mean a DL stint for the shortstop.
Apr 29 2018Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during an 8-3 loss to the Giants in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. After going 2-for-5 with two RBI in the opener, Seager stayed locked in by taking Johnny Cueto deep in the first inning of the nightcap. He's now hit safely in six of his last seven games to boost his slash line to .268/.351/.402, but Seager's power numbers remain disappointing -- he's got only two home runs and 13 RBI through 25 games.
Apr 28 2018Seager (hip) is back in the lineup Saturday for the first game of the doubleheader against the Giants, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager suffered a minor hip injury Wednesday against the Marlins and sat out for one game, but he won't miss any more than that. The young shortstop is hitting a mediocre .250/.343/.341 with just one homer through his first 102 plate appearances so far this season. His .292 BABIP is near the league average but far below his .352 career figure, so it's possible that he's been getting unlucky, though his hard-hit rate also sits at a career-low 35.6 percent.
Apr 27 2018Seager (hip) is available off the bench Friday and expects to play in Saturday's doubleheader against the Giants, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Manager Dave Roberts also said Seager could play both games of the Saturday's doubleheader, indicating that being held out of Friday's lineup was a precautionary move. The 24-year-old tweaked his hip Wednesday but appears ready for a return to the field for the Dodgers.
Apr 27 2018Seager (hip) is not in the lineup Friday against the Giants, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Seager tweaked his hip in Wednesday's contest, though it seemed like he was back to full health after undergoing soft-tissue therapy after the game. Regardless, he'll get another night off to rest, allowing Enrique Hernandez to pick up a start at shortstop.
Apr 25 2018Seager (hip) received soft-tissue therapy following Wednesday's game and said he feels fine, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager said he felt "a little blip" in his hip after he slipped while tracking a popup during the ninth inning Wednesday, though the shortstop -- along with manager Dave Roberts -- didn't seem worried about the issue afterwards. With an off-day Thursday, Seager will hopefully be ready to go for Friday's series opener against the Giants.
Apr 25 2018Seager is being evaluated by trainers after Wednesday's loss to the Marlins, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager appeared to twist his ankle after he slipped while chasing a popup late in Wednesday's game, though he was ultimately able to stay in and finish out the contest after being checked on by trainers. While manager Dave Roberts said he expects Seager to be fine, the team will play it safe and have him re-evaluated to make sure he isn't dealing with anything potentially more serious. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 23 2018Seager is not in the lineup Monday against the Marins. The young star has nine hits in the past seven games, but he'll head to the bench for his second night off of the season with lefty Darlin Garcia taking the hill for Miami. Kike Hernandez will pick up a start at shortstop in his stead.
Apr 19 2018Seager went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 13-4 drubbing of the Padres.Seager's four-hit day raised his batting average over 40 points, but he still owns a disappointing .254/.321/.338 slash line after enduring a slow start due to an elbow injury. It is still early, and the slugging shortstop has posted high-level totals for his position over the past couple of seasons. Seager's .288 BABIP is well below his .352 career mark, and he is making strong contact (55.0 Med% and 35.0 Hard%) while striking out less than usual (14.1 strikeout percentage), so better days at the plate are ahead for the 23-year-old.
Apr 11 2018Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Dodgers' 4-0 win over the Athletics on Tuesday. The long-awaited first long ball of the season finally came for the struggling shortstop, as he managed to touch up A's starter Sean Manaea with a first-inning solo blast. Seager is still hitting just .211 with two RBI through 38 at-bats but it was encouraging to see him leave the yard, especially with concerns over an elbow injury he battled throughout spring training possibly hampering his production. Owners will hope Tuesday's homer is what he needed to jumpstart his season and regain his All-Star caliber form going forward.
Apr 7 2018Seager went 2-for-4 with two walks and a run scored Saturday against the Giants. This kind of line normally isn't notable for Seager, but he has struggled early in the regular season after battling an elbow injury throughout spring training. This is only the second time this season he has managed to reach base multiple times in seven starts, and he has yet to connect for any extra-base hits. It's possible this performance is a turning point for Seager, but his health has to remain a concern based on his slow start.
Mar 31 2018Seager is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.Seager will get the day off after going hitless (0-for-7) across the team's first two games of the season. Enrique Hernandez will start at shortstop and hit second in his stead. Seager should be back in the lineup for the series finale Sunday.
Mar 16 2018Seager (elbow) went 1-for-3 with his first home run of spring training Thursday against the Royals. The slugging shortstop has looked more like himself over his previous two contests, going 3-for-6 with a double, a homer and four RBI after starting off spring training mired in a 2-for-18 slump (due in large part to his minor elbow injury). It was odd to see Seager stick in the designated hitter spot Thursday after making two successful starts at short in minor-league camp over the past three days. Perhaps the Dodgers didn't want to push him following his first extended action in the field this season. Whatever the case, Seager stated that he is over the elbow issues that plagued him early on, confirming his availability for Opening Day to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports on Wednesday. Assuming there are no setbacks, the owners who gambled on his health in earlier drafts appear to have received a bit of a discount on a premier fantasy shortstop.
Mar 15 2018The Dodgers renewed Seager's contract Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager is not yet eligible for arbitration, so Los Angeles was able to assign him a salary of $605,000. The 23-year-old shortstop slashed .295/.375/.479 through 145 games a season ago, and appears ready for Opening Day.
Mar 14 2018Seager said his elbow feels good and there is no question that he'll be ready to go by Opening Day, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. This is encouraging news, as the elbow issue that limited Seager early on in camp appears to be fully in his rearview mirror. The 23-year-old was able to play seven innings at shortstop during a minor-league contest Wednesday -- his second such appearance in the past three days -- and reported no issues afterwards. Seager's next step remains unclear, but he's on track to be fully operation by the start of the season.
Mar 12 2018Seager (elbow) took the field without issues in a B game Monday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager has been cautiously brought up to speed as he works his way back from an elbow injury. He expects to take the field again Wednesday, either in the Cactus League or in another B game. That timeline should leave him with enough time to be up to speed by Opening Day, and he says he's not expecting to take any extra off days to manage his elbow early in the season.
Mar 11 2018Seager (elbow) will serve as the Dodgers' designated hitter and bat second in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Rockies, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.Sunday will mark Seager's eighth appearance of the spring, but all have come as the Dodgers' designated hitter with the team reluctant to use him in the field while he recovers from the right elbow injury that plagued him late in 2017. It's expected that Seager will return to the field in a minor-league game Monday before returning to action at shortstop in Cactus League play a few days later.
Mar 7 2018Seager (elbow) will play five innings at shortstop during a minor-league game Monday. Barring any setbacks, he will then take the field against the Rockies for Wednesday's Cactus League affair, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. This will mark Seager's spring debut in the field after participating in games as a designated hitter over the past few days. The 23-year-old has been dealing with an elbow issue for the entirety of the Dodgers' camp, but appears to be on track for Opening Day, especially if all goes well during the next week.
Mar 5 2018Seager (elbow) could return to playing the field within the week, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. The young shortstop has been able to hit in games as his time at designated hitter shows, but he's been hampered by an elbow injury keeping him from throwing in a game situation. He began throwing to bases during drills over the weekend, and although he still has some things to check off before a full return, manager Dave Roberts hasn't completely ruled out a return to shortstop later this week. Either way, Seager seems to be well on track to be 100 percent for Opening Day, but his status is still worth monitoring over the course of spring training.
Mar 5 2018Seager (elbow) is in the lineup as a designated hitter for Monday's game against the Indians, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager has been battling an elbow issue all spring and has yet to take the field, though he has appeared in three games as a designated hitter. He's been shut down since Tuesday while working on his throwing program. Still, the Dodgers expect the young shortstop to be ready to take the field on Opening Day, and returning to the lineup at least to hit is a sign of progress.
Mar 4 2018Seager (elbow) is scheduled to be in the lineup as a designated hitter Monday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager doesn't yet have a timetable for a return to the field, but the fact he's OK to swing a bat is certainly encouraging. To further the story, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com says Seager will begin throwing to bases Monday, but it seems unlikely to be in live game action based on the other report. Despite an illness going around the clubhouse costing Seager a bit of time, manager Dave Roberts remains optimistic about his shortstop's Opening Day status.
Mar 2 2018Seager (elbow) won't play in games for a few days, but manager Dave Roberts still thinks his starting shortstop has enough time to be ready for the start of the season, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. His throwing program was interrupted by an illness that has spread through Dodgers camp, but he is expected to get in a light workout Friday before going home. The concern with Seager is that his elbow won't be fully ready for him to play the field in the first week of the season, but it sounds like he has time to get right by Opening Day if he can avoid further setbacks. Seager's injury has opened up a buying opportunity, as he has been slipping too far in many recent drafts.
Feb 25 2018Seager (stomach) is batting second as the Dodgers' designated hitter in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Seager was scratched from Saturday's lineup when he came down with the stomach bug. After a day off, the star shortstop is set to reenter the lineup in a DH-capacity. Seager will be eased into action during spring training but is fully expected to be ready to go for Opening Day on Mar. 29.
Feb 25 2018Manager Dave Roberts reported Sunday that Seager is still limited in the "volume and distance" of his throwing, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager is in the lineup Sunday as the team's designated hitter but does not necessarily appear close to returning to the defensive side of the ball. Roberts stated Sunday that, "The [trainers] have him on a throwing program, a progression. Probably not very aggressive but it's what we think is best for Corey." Roberts also conceded that Seager would likely need 10 spring training appearances at shortstop before he's deemed ready for Opening Day. It sounds like the Dodgers' star shortstop is slowly making progress when it comes to ramping up his throwing intensity, but it obviously remains a situation worth monitoring.
Feb 24 2018Seager was removed from the lineup Saturday with a stomach illness, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager was scheduled to start at DH. Henry Ramos will start in his place. There are no reports suggesting that the illness is a particularly severe one, so expect the young shortstop to be back and ready to play sometime in the next few days. The Dodgers were easing him into spring action slowly anyway while he recovers from the back and elbow injuries he suffered last season, so missing a game or two won't set his timetable back much if at all.
Feb 21 2018Seager will be utilized as the team's designated hitter for Cactus League games this weekend as he continues to progress through a throwing program, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.Seager remains on a throwing program as he works to build his arm back to 100 percent after missing some time due to back and elbow injuries in 2017. There doesn't appear to be any concern over his status for the start of the season, but he's yet to be cleared for his typical spot at shortstop during spring games as the Dodgers are hoping a reduction in workload will help Seager avoid any sort of setback.
Feb 20 2018Seager's throwing will be held back a bit early in spring training, but he is confident that he will be ready for the start of the regular season, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager missed time with back and elbow injuries late in 2017. There was even talk of offseason elbow surgery, but the club went the rest-and-rehab route instead. As of last Friday, Seager was still only throwing from 100 feet, so he has several hurdles to clear yet before he can play in spring games, but there doesn't seem to be any serious concern about Seager's availability for the start of the season. Manager Dave Roberts said he will encourage Seager to reduce his heavy practice workload in camp in hopes of avoiding any more injuries. "This is his third year," Roberts said. "He's had setbacks each year, so maybe back off a little, but I hear he's in great shape."
Dec 12 2017General manager Farhan Zaidi said Seager will not require offseason elbow surgery, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager dealt with a right elbow issue for the final two months of the 2017 season, with offseason surgery being floated around as a possibility. He's apparently doing better after taking a couple of months off, however, and is expected to continue resting in the offseason before reporting to spring training. The 23-year-old finished the season with a .295/.375/.479 triple-slash and 22 homers in 145 games despite dealing also dealing with ankle and back injuries. A healthy Seager should be poised for another big season.
Nov 7 2017President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman said Seager's elbow is still being monitored, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.Seager has been managing elbow soreness since August, forcing him to miss a handful of games down the stretch. While the Dodgers are hopeful it will heal over time, they haven't ruled out the possibility of offseason surgery -- an idea that was also floated around at the beginning of September. Seeing as the specifics of the issue remain unclear, it's difficult to determine the potential recovery timeline that would come with the offseason procedure. Despite also missing time with ankle and back injuries, Seager was able to finish the season with a .295/.375/.479 line and 22 homers in 145 games.

Oct 24 2017Seager (back) is starting at shortstop and batting sixth for Game 1 of the World Series against the Astros on Tuesday. It appears the star shortstop is good to go for the Fall Classic after missing all of the NLCS against the Cubs with a back injury. Seager, who went 3-for-11 (.273) with two RBI and a 3:4 K:BB in the NLDS before injuring himself, should provide a big boost for the Dodgers.
Oct 24 2017Seager (back) is on the Dodgers' World Series roster, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. As expected, Seager will be active and available for the Fall Classic. It's unclear if he'll be in the starting lineup for Game 1 at this point, as the Dodgers may choose to use him as a high-leverage pinch hitter to avoid the possibility of him aggravating his back injury in the field. The 23-year-old went 3-for-11 (.273) with two RBI in the NLDS before injuring his back in Game 3 and subsequently missing the NLCS. He'll take the place of Curtis Granderson on the World Series roster.
Oct 23 2017Seager (back) will be a part of the Dodgers' World Series roster, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports. The 23-year-old shortstop missed the Dodgers' five-game NLCS win over the Cubs while dealing with a back issue, but he's been ramping up his activities in recent days and appears to be good to go for the World Series after getting through a simulated game with no issues Monday. The Dodgers are expected to release their official roster prior to Game 1 on Tuesday, but his return would obviously provide a big boost. While Seager is expected to be included on the roster, it's still not a given that he'll start the first game of the series; Los Angeles could choose to use him as a high-leverage pinch hitter at first to avoid the possibility of him aggravating his back injury in the field.
Oct 22 2017Seager (back) is scheduled to take part in a simulated game Monday and hopes to receive clearance to return to the lineup for Game 1 of the Dodgers' World Series matchup with the Astros on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Seager didn't travel with the Dodgers during their five-game National League Championship Series win over the Cubs while contending with the back issue, but the Dodgers didn't miss a beat. Charlie Culberson started three of the games at shortstop and hit .511 and offered strong defense up the middle, while Chris Taylor started the other two games at the position en route to earning NLCS co-MVP honors. The return of Seager, who slashed .295/.375/.479 in his second full season in the big leagues, would still amount to an upgrade at the position, so the 23-year-old will look to prove that he's healthy Monday before the World Series gets underway. Seager has previously been able to run curves on the field, take ground balls and hit off a tee over the past couple of days, but the simulated game would represent the final hurdle he would need to clear in the recovery process.
Oct 21 2017Manager Dave Roberts said Seager (back) has been hitting off a tee and running curves on the field, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager's back continues to improve, and the Dodgers remain hopeful that he'll be ready to rejoin the starting nine for Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday. "We're very optimistic," Roberts said Saturday. "Corey really doesn't want to be denied." Seager is expected to face live pitching Sunday and Monday, after which there should be a clearer idea regarding his status for the beginning of the Fall Classic. The Dodgers may choose to use him as their DH -- or as a high-leverage pinch hitter in home games -- if they don't want to risk the possibility of him aggravating his back injury in the field.
Oct 18 2017Seager (back) may start to play catch Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. He moved well Tuesday and began to work in the weight room. With the Dodgers moving ahead 3-0 in the NLCS, they have the luxury of continuing to play from an advantageous position without their best position player. It's possible he could return to action if the Dodgers advance to the World Series.
Oct 18 2017Manager Dave Roberts said he expects Seager (back) to be ready for the World Series, should the Dodgers make it, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager's back has been steadily improving, and he was able to play catch with no issues Wednesday. The 23-year-old will continue to ramp up his activity -- he's scheduled to take swings Thursday -- but barring any setbacks, it sounds like the Dodgers will have their star shortstop back for the Fall Classic if they're able to close out the Cubs in the NLCS (Los Angeles leads the series 3-1).
Oct 15 2017Seager's (back) condition is improving and is close to feeling normal, Jack Magruder of FanRagSports.com reports. While this is certainly promising news for the Dodgers, there are still no plans for him to play in the NLCS. Charlie Culberson started Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday with Seager out of the lineup. Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor could also serve as candidates to fill in with Seager out.
Oct 14 2017Seager (back) will not travel with the Dodgers when the NLCS shifts to Chicago, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. The talented young shortstop is dealing with a back injury that is preventing him from running or swinging a bat. Seager was left off the official NLCS roster, but there's a slim chance he plays if the Dodgers have to make a DL move. However, the fact that he won't travel to Chicago suggests that he won't be available until Game 6 at the earliest if the series makes it that far.
Oct 14 2017Seager (back) has yet to receive medical clearance to swing a bat or participate in running drills, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager's back injury led to him being left off the NLCS roster, and the fact that he's not cleared to test out the ailment suggests he'll have a difficult time appearing in this series unless the Dodgers make a DL move. Charlie Culberson will start at shortstop in his place for Game 1 on Saturday.
Oct 14 2017Seager (back) was left off the NLCS roster against the Cubs, Andy McCullough of The Los Angeles Times reports. In a devastating blow for the Dodgers, Seager will be unavailable for the series against the Cubs due to the back injury he sustained in Game 3 of the NLDS against Arizona. The only way that Seager would be able to rejoin the team during the series is if another member of the team sustains an injury that warrants a trip to the disabled list; otherwise, he will be out until the World Series, were the Dodgers to advance. In his place, Charlie Culberson was added to the active roster, while Chris Taylor is sure to see time manning the shortstop position.
Oct 12 2017Seager did not participate in team workouts Thursday due to a minor back injury, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Manager Dave Roberts reported that Seager tweaked his back on a slide during Monday's Game 3 victory over the Diamondbacks. Despite his absence Thursday, Roberts is confident that his starting shortstop will be ready to go for Saturday's NLCS Game 1 against the Cubs or Nationals. Seager went 3-for-11 with four walks in the Dodgers' sweep of the D-Backs.
Sep 28 2017Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and a pair of runs scored in Wednesday's 10-0 rout of the Padres. The slugging shortstop has now homered in consecutive contests after floundering through his previous 64 September at-bats (.172/.239/.250). Seager's cold streak was likely the result of his nagging ankle and elbow injuries, but his recent power binge indicates that he is back at full strength. The 23-year-old will look to end his strong 2017 campaign (.295/.375/.480 with 22 homers) on a high note at Coors Field this weekend.
Sep 27 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 9-2 win over the Padres. The blast was his 21st of the year but only his second in September, and Seager is limping into the postseason with a .191/.263/.309 slash line over the final month as he's battled through elbow and ankle issues. Don't be surprised if he gets some extra rest between now and the beginning of the playoffs, now that the Dodgers have locked up the best record in the NL.
Sep 22 2017Seager (ankle) is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. This comes as a surprise, because while X-rays on the ankle were negative, manager Dave Roberts just said Thursday that Seager would be out "at least" a couple more days. Regardless, Seager's penciled in to return, and will get a chance to improve upon his 1-for-9 career mark against Giants starter Jeff Samardzija.
Sep 21 2017Manager Dave Roberts said Seager will be out of the lineup "at least [the] next couple of days," David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. It may be best to hope for a Monday return, at the earliest, for Seager, who fouled a ball off his right ankle Wednesday. X-rays thankfully came back negative, so the elite shortstop should return sometime this season. Of course, with the Dodgers close to clinching homefield advantage in the playoffs -- despite their recent swoon and the Nationals gaining ground -- they may not be in a rush if Seager doesn't feel right. Given his murky timetable, his fantasy owners should line up an alternative.
Sep 21 2017Seager (ankle) is not in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. The shortstop fouled a ball off his ankle Wednesday, and he stayed in the contest afterward. X-rays were negative, so perhaps this absence is merely precautionary and he'll be back in the next few days. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if the Dodgers rested him a bit more before the postseason, but the Nationals still have an outside shot at homefield advantage, so Los Angeles may want to wrap that up before making other plans. Meanwhile, Logan Forsythe takes his place at the six Thursday for his first start there since Sept. 2014.
Sep 20 2017X-rays on Seager's ankle came back negative, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager fouled a ball off his right ankle Wednesday night, and while he was able to stay in the contest, the Dodgers sent him for X-rays afterwards to make sure he wasn't dealing with anything more than a bruise. Everything checked out, which is good news, but his status for Thursday's series finale remains up in the air. Manager Dave Roberts recently stated that Seager would play every game for the remainder of the season, but the team may decide to give him an off day to keep him fresh ahead of the playoffs. After an 0-for-5 showing Wednesday, Seager is just 5-for-34 (.147) over his last nine games.
Sep 18 2017Manager Dave Roberts said Seager won't be able to throw at 100 percent for the rest of the season, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager is apparently still dealing with some elbow pain when he throws, though the issue isn't expected to force him to miss any time down the stretch. The Dodgers' medical staff deemed the ailment "playable," and Roberts confirmed the star shortstop will start "the rest of the season" following Monday's day off. It has already been speculated that the 23-year-old may need offseason surgery to address his elbow injury. He'll likely have to play through some pain down the stretch; the good news is that Seager is mostly bothered by the issue when he throws, so his hitting may not be affected.
Sep 18 2017Seager is not in the lineup Monday against the Phillies, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.Seager has started nine straight games since returning from an elbow injury earlier in the month, hitting just .216/.286/.351 in 37 at-bats during that span, so he'll get the day off as Enrique Hernandez starts in his place at shortstop.
Sep 15 2017Seager went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer Friday against the Nationals.Seager crushed his 20th bomb of the year to break the game open in the second inning of a winning effort. The blast was his first since August 5, and his slugging percentage has dropped significantly since that time, but hopefully he'll get hot in time to help fantasy managers advance in the playoffs.
Sep 9 2017Seager went 1-for-5 with a double in his return to the lineup Friday against the Rockies. It was the 23-year-old's first start since being sidelined with elbow inflammation Aug. 27. When asked about how his elbow felt after the game, Seager replied with a simple "all good" to ease fantasy owners' thoughts, J.P. Hoornstra of The Orange County Register reports. The slugging shortstop's return to the lineup provides a much-needed boost to a Dodgers club that is mired in an eight-game losing streak.
Sep 8 2017Seager (elbow) is in the lineup Friday against the Rockies. As planned, Seager is ready to return to action Friday night. He'll hit second and start at shortstop when the Dodgers take on a Rockies club that's sending German Marquez to the hill.
Sep 7 2017Manager Dave Roberts said that Seager (elbow) will return to the lineup Friday against the Rockies, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Swelling and inflammation in Seager's elbow cost the 23-year-old more than a week's worth of starts, but he's finally feeling well enough to return to his spot in the Dodgers' infield. Seager has logged a couple pinch-hit appearances in recent days, singling in two trips to the plate. He's been a top-25 hitter in baseball as measured by wRC+ and should be deployed immediately in all formats.
Sep 7 2017Seager (elbow) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Rockies, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. While Seager has appeared as a pinch hitter in each of the previous two contests, he still hasn't been cleared to return to the field, so he'll remain on the bench for Thursday's series opener. He should be available to hit again Thursday, though his status for Friday's game remains up in the air. The stud shortstop hasn't played since Aug. 27 due to inflammation in his elbow, but he appears to be on the cusp of a return.
Sep 6 2017Seager (elbow) came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit single in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.Seager wasn't expected to make his return until Friday, but he was apparently healthy enough to be used off the bench in a pinch. The slugging shortstop hasn't started a game since Aug. 27 while he deals with inflammation in his elbow. The Dodgers didn't announce whether Seager would be available to start Wednesday's series finale, so he should be considered day-to-day until his name officially appears on a lineup card.
Sep 6 2017Seager (elbow) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Seager -- who hasn't started a game since Aug. 27 due to inflammation in his elbow -- was able to deliver a pinch-hit single in Tuesday's contest, but he's apparently still not ready to return to the field. This will mark his 10th straight game out of the starting lineup, with Chris Taylor starting at shortstop in his stead. Consider Seager day-to-day for now; look for him to return to the lineup sometime during the Dodgers' upcoming series against Colorado.
Sep 5 2017Manager Dave Roberts reported Tuesday that Seager (elbow) could rejoin the starting lineup Friday against the Rockies, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.Seager has been withheld from the starting lineup each of the past four days, but he was able to increase his throwing distance Tuesday and is now on track to return to action Friday. He should be deployed in fantasy lineups with confidence upon his return, as the Dodgers likely wouldn't rush him back into action before he's fully healthy.
Sep 4 2017Seager has returned to throwing Monday but may require offseason surgery to address his elbow injury, the Orange County Register reports. An MRI on Seager's shoulder found inflammation, potentially caused by a bone spur or bone chips. If that is the case, Seager would be able to undergo offseason surgery and return in time for the beginning of spring training. Seager's week off from game action has been described as "super-super-cautious" and likely wouldn't be happening if not for the Dodgers' massive lead in the National League West standing. Expect him back in the lineup sometime during the club's upcoming series with Colorado, which begins Thursday.
Sep 2 2017Seager (elbow) will start a 4-to-7 day throwing progression Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Seager will likely be out for at least another week while recovering from elbow soreness that has kept the shortstop out of the starting lineup since Aug. 27. He's been dealing with swelling and inflammation in the elbow, but shouldn't miss too much time, as he's likely going to be able to return at the conclusion of his throwing program. In his place, Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez will fill-in at the shortstop position.
Sep 1 2017Seager underwent an MRI that revealed swelling and inflammation in his injured elbow, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager will remain shut down through at least Monday. Although swelling and inflammation certainly can't be considered good news, it's better than the alternative of structural damage. Seager will attempt to throw next week, and his return plan will be dictated by the results of those sessions.
Aug 31 2017Seager (elbow) won't resume throwing until Monday, making him unavailable to start over the weekend, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager has been dealing with elbow soreness for a couple weeks, and while he's available as a pinch hitter, the issue will keep him from playing the field over the weekend. It may take Seager a couple of days to get ready after he resumes throwing, so he may not be ready to rejoin the starting lineup until next week's series against the Rockies. Chris Taylor is starting at shortstop Thursday, while Enrique Hernandez could also see a start at shortstop in Seager's stead.
Aug 29 2017Seager is out of Tuesday's lineup with a sore elbow but is available as a pinch hitter, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. He has apparently been managing the injury for a couple weeks now, which explains why he has been held out of the lineup twice in the last five games. While Seager is available to hit, he is day-to-day to return to the field. Enrique Hernandez is filling in at shortstop and hitting eighth.
Aug 29 2017Seager is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. He sits for the second time in the last five games, presumably in an effort to get him some occasional rest as the Dodgers gear up for what they hope will be a deep postseason run. Enrique Hernandez starts at shortstop and will hit eighth.
Aug 29 2017Seager (elbow) will be out of the lineup for at least a few days, although he will be available as a pinch hitter, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. The elbow soreness he has been dealing with for a couple weeks will lead to him being held out at least until this weekend's series in San Diego, although he could see some pinch hitting opportunities off the bench over the next few days. Enrique Hernandez and possibly Chris Taylor figure to see the starts at shortstop while Seager is out.
Aug 24 2017Seager extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a three-hit performance in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates. The slugging shortstop only has one extra-base hit during his current streak, but fantasy owners aren't complaining as he continues to carry them -- as he has all season -- in the batting average department. Seager has a good shot at surpassing last year's career high 14-game hit streak with three right-handed starters on the docket.
Aug 24 2017Seager is not in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Pirates, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager receives a rare day off, his first since the All-Star break as Enrique Hernandez gets the nod at shortstop. The 23-year-old will likely be back in the lineup against the Brewers on Friday, and is hitting .338/.390/.517 during the second half of this season.
Aug 18 2017Seager will serve as the designated hitter and bat second Friday against the Tigers.Seager is seemingly dealing with some sort of right-arm issue, as he was seen testing the arm with trainers early Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. However, manager Dave Roberts said Seager is "fine," and the fact that Seager can still swing a bat at full intensity suggests as much. The Dodgers would likely DH Seager all weekend if they had to, to keep his bat in the lineup.
Aug 16 2017Seager went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBI in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the White Sox.The slugging shortstop has been on fire in the second half of the season, slashing .336/.405/.566 with six homers, eight doubles and 14 RBI in 28 games since the All-Star break. Seager currently ranks in the top-3 among all shortstops in runs (73), home runs (19), RBI (59), batting average (.308) and OPS (.917) this season, solidifying himself as one of fantasy's most well-rounded bats in just his age-23 season.
Aug 5 2017Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk Saturday against the Mets.Seager left the yard for the 19th time this season to give the Dodgers a pair of insurance runs in the ninth inning of a winning effort. He continues to be a fantasy superstar, as he boasts an impressive .314/.380/.549 slash line.
Aug 4 2017Seager went 3-for-4 with a walk and two doubles in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets. It's his second straight three-hit performance and fifth multi-hit game in his last seven, and the hot streak has now pushed Seager's OPS on the season up to .925. The 23-year-old continues his march towards becoming the most valuable fantasy shortstop in the NL -- if he hasn't already gotten there.
Jul 29 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in a 6-4 win over the Giants on Friday.Seager continues to drive the ball with authority since returning from the All-Star break, smacking five long balls over his previous 13 games. He ranks in the top third in homers (18), walks (51) and on-base plus slugging percentage (.901) amongst all major-league shortstops, solidifying his status as one of the league's premier sluggers. At just 23 years of age, it is exciting to think about what type of hitter Seager could be once he actually enters his prime years.
Jul 23 2017Seager's only hit in four at-bats Saturday was a solo home run in a 6-2 victory over the Braves. The 23-year-old saw his modest 10-game hitting streak come to an end Friday, but he rewarded his fantasy owners with his third homer in eight games since the All-Star break. Possibly lost in the hubbub surrounding Cody Bellinger's breakout campaign, Seager has quietly been producing another stellar fantasy season with 16 homers, 50 RBI and a .907 on-base plus slugging percentage through 89 games.
Jul 20 2017Seager went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the White Sox.The 23-year-old extended his current hitting streak to nine games, and Seager is now slashing .340/.400/.600 in July with three homers and 10 RBI through 12 games.
Jul 14 2017Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Friday against the Marlins.Seager launched his 14th bomb of 2017 to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in a road victory. He's been everything that fantasy owners hoped for this season by rewarding them with an excellent .297/.394/.508 slash line.
Jul 9 2017Seager is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Manager Dave Roberts will grant his star shortstop a day of rest prior to the All-Star festivities. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start in Seager's absence, batting sixth.
Jul 2 2017Seager picked up a pair of RBI on three hits in a 5-3 loss to San Diego on Sunday. On a day where he was named to the National League All-Star team (as a reserve), Seager stroked a trio of hits for the second game in a row. He's now back over the .300 mark (.305), tied for second on the team with 42 RBI and leads the Dodgers in doubles with 21.
Jul 2 2017Seager went 3-for-5 with solo home run in Saturday's win over the Padres. The start shortstop received an extra day of rest after returning from a minor hamstring injury Thursday, and it resulted in Seager's 25th multi-hit game of the season. The 23-year-old remains one of fantasy's top options at short with a healthy .299/.401/.511 slash line through 75 games.
Jun 30 2017Seager is not in the lineup for Friday's game, J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.Seager returned to action from a hamstring injury Thursday after missing the previous five contests. He will get another day off to rest following an 0-for-4 day that included two strikeouts while Enrique Hernandez takes over at short. Seager is likely to be back in the lineup Saturday.
Jun 29 2017Seager (hamstring) is starting at shortstop and batting second Thursday against the Angels, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager is good to go for Thursday's series finale after missing the previous five games with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The 22-year-old, who is slashing .298/.403/.506 with 12 homers in 73 games this season, will face JC Ramirez in his return to the starting lineup.
Jun 28 2017Seager (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.Seager is set to miss his fifth straight game as he continues to work back from a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The 23-year-old was apparently available off the bench Tuesday night, so he'll likely be an option to hit again Wednesday if needed, but the Dodgers will give him an extra day on the bench to rest his ailing hammy. Seager remains hopeful he'll be back at shortstop for Thursday's series finale.
Jun 28 2017Seager (hamstring) is hopeful to return to the field before the end of the series with the Angels, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Seager has missed the past four games with a Grade 1 hamstring strain that he suffered during last Friday's affair. It appears as though Seager was available to pinch hit off the bench during Tuesday's contest, and although he did not do so, that should come as a good sign concerning the severity of his injury. There's a possibility that Seager will be in the lineup for Wednesday's game, but he should be considered day-to-day as the Dodgers aren't going to force him back until he is completely ready.
Jun 28 2017Manager Dave Roberts said Seager (hamstring) will likely play Friday against the Padres if he isn't able to return for Thursday's series finale against the Angels, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.Seager has missed five straight games while dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, but he appears to be on the verge of a return. The 23-year-old said he was able to run and swing a bat as close to 100 percent as possible before Wednesday's game, according to J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News, so look for him to be back in the starting lineup Thursday or Friday.
Jun 27 2017Seager (hamstring) is available off the bench for Tuesday's game against the Angels, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager has now missed four consecutive games with a hamstring strain, but is apparently healthy enough to jump into live action if necessary. Despite the fact that he's reportedly healthy enough to play, the Dodgers are not ruling out a trip to the 10-day disabled list. He'll remain day-to-day for the time being.
Jun 27 2017Seager (hamstring) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Angels, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.Seager will be held out for a fourth straight game as he continues to work his way back from a hamstring strain. Manager Dave Roberts said he was at about 80 percent before Monday's contest, so he appears to be nearing a return to action. He'll remain dau-to-day; Enrique Hernandez will continue to fill in for him at shortstop.
Jun 26 2017Seager (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Monday against the Angels but is not expected to go on the disabled list, Seager is at roughly 80 percent, manager Dave Roberts said. He was able to do agility drills and running on the field, but for now, he will be held to pinch hit duties alone. He is not out of the woods yet, but the Dodgers are working hard to ensure a disabled list is not necessary for their star shortstop.
Jun 25 2017Seager (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.Though he will again be held out of the starting lineup, manager Dave Roberts announced that Seager is "feeling considerably better" and has a chance to make a pinch-hit appearance Sunday. It certainly sounds like the star shortstop won't require a trip to the disabled list. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start in his stead.
Jun 24 2017Seager (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.Seager was lifted from Friday's game with a hamstring injury, and while the preliminary diagnosis was a cramp, the Dodgers did schedule an MRI to determine the full extent of the issue. The results have not yet been disclosed. Enrique Hernandez will fill in at shortstop Saturday.
Jun 24 2017Manager Dave Roberts said an MRI revealed Seager has a Grade 1 hamstring strain and will be day-to-day moving forward, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.Fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief it's nothing more serious, though the young slugger may be out through the weekend as he recovers. Look for Enrique Hernandez to see the majority of time at shortstop while Seager is on the mend.
Jun 23 2017Seager was forced to leave Friday's game with an apparent leg injury, SBNation.com reports.Seager advanced to second base on a second inning RBI single but pulled up and grabbed the back of his right leg on the way there. It appeared to be a hamstring injury by the way Seager was grabbing at his leg, but we'll have to wait for an update from the Dodgers medical staff to know for sure. If so, though, the Dodgers could be losing one of their best players to the disabled list. For now, we'll consider him day-to-day.
Jun 23 2017Seager left Friday's game with a hamstring cramp, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Fantasy owners and Dodgers fans alike can breathe a sigh of relief. When Seager grabbed at his hamstring rounding first base, it was easy to assume the worst. Seager should still be considered questionable for Saturday's game, but it doesn't sound like a disabled list trip will be required.
Jun 22 2017Seager is not in the lineup Thursday against the Mets, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Despite riding a three-game hitting streak, Seager will head to the bench for a breather after starting all 19 games this month. Chris Taylor will take over for him at shortstop, giving Franklin Gutierrez a chance to start in left field.
Jun 20 2017Seager hit a double and three homers in five at-bats against the Mets on Tuesday, driving in six runs in the process. That matches his homer output from the past 32 games put together, as Seager didn't have his power stroke going for a while there. Even so, he's maintained strong numbers thanks to a steady stream of singles and doubles, with Seager's 54 runs in 70 games particularly standing out.
Jun 12 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam in Sunday's comeback win over the Reds.Seager played the role of hero for the second consecutive night, smashing an eighth-inning grand slam that put the Dodgers ahead for good. The star shortstop had cooled off a bit in the month of May, but he appears to be getting back on track, collecting five extra-base hits and seven RBI in this three-game set against the Reds.
Jun 7 2017Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Nationals.Seager got the Dodgers on the board in the sixth inning with a 422-foot blast to center off Stephen Strasburg. Seager's eighth homer of the season started a two-out, two-run rally that was the margin of victory for Los Angeles. The 23-year-old phenom has been scuffling lately - he's hitting just .192 in June with one RBI - but he remains one of the best shortstop options around.
May 30 2017Seager is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.Seager will get some rest after starting 12 consecutive games for the Dodgers. Over said games he hit .302 with an OPS of .886. With Seager getting the night off, Enrique Hernandez will start at shortstop. Look for Seager to return to action for Thursday's outing versus St. Louis.
May 21 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and a pair of runs scored in Saturday's loss to the Marlins. After a slow start to the month of May, the 23-year-old has picked things up at the plate of late, batting .353 (12-for-34) with two homers and six RBI over his last 10 games. Seager's .299/.397/.510 slash line through 43 games is nearly identical to last year's line (.308/.365/.512) that earned him a spot amongst the elite fantasy shortstops.
May 19 2017Seager went 1-for-3 with two walks in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Marlins. The 23-year-old is slumping overall in May but he's now hit safely in four of his last five games. What's been missing is the power, as Seager has just five extra-base hits, including just one homer, in 68 plate appearances during the month. Although his hard contact has dropped from April's excellent 53.5 percent figure, it remains a solid 34.0 percent; therefore, it could be just a matter of time before Seager experiences a power surge.
May 17 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs in a 6-1 win against the Giants on Wednesday. He's contributing in every fantasy category, as Seager's solid .286 average is accompanied by six homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs and a pair of steals. After exploding onto the scene over the past two seasons, Seager's settled in as one of the game's top shortstops, and it's hard not to feel like the best is yet to come for the impressive 23-year-old.
May 16 2017Seager is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.Seager will take a seat for the first time all month as the Giants send lefty-throwing Ty Blach to the mound. It appears to be a routine day of rest for Seager, who is 0-for-5 in his career against Blach. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start at shortstop in his stead.
May 14 2017Seager went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI, a pair of runs and his sixth home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.A weekend at Coors Field has provided some relief for Seager's early-May slump, with the slugger tallying three extra-base hits and four RBI in four games against the Rockies. The 23-year-old is batting .283 on the season while ranking in the top three among shortstops in both homers (six) and RBI (21).
May 11 2017Seager went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. After a strong start to the season, Seager has cooled off in May, batting just .188 with no RBI through eight contests. Even with his recent slump, the 23-year-old owns a solid .286/.381/.471 slash line on the season. The Dodgers are about to begin a four-game series against the Rockies at Coors Field, which is usually the ideal remedy for any hitter to snap out of a funk.
May 8 2017Seager did not sustain an injury in Monday's game and was removed solely to get some rest, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. With the Dodgers up 10-0, they could afford to miss Seager for the final four innings. He was seen talking to a trainer before hitting the showers, but thankfully that was a false alarm. Expect Seager in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
May 8 2017Seager left Monday's game in the fifth inning with an undiscloseed injury after talking to a trainer, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. The Dodgers were leading 10-0, so they had no reason to leave Seager in with even the most minor of injuries. Consider him day-to-day until the club updates his status.
Apr 30 2017Seager is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports. After starting the team's past seven games, it appears that Seager is simply receiving a scheduled day of rest ahead of Sunday's tilt against the Phillies. The star shortstop should be back in the lineup Monday against the Giants. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start in his absence.
Apr 28 2017Seager went 1-for-3 with two walks and his fifth home run of the season in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Giants. The 23-year-old continues to impress early on, taking a pitch to the opposite field for a home run for the second consecutive day, this time off of the left-handed Matt Moore. The lefty understandably has better batting average splits against righties (.392) than against southpaws (.206) this season, but he has been able to maintain his power (two homers) and plate discipline (9:5 K:BB ratio) against pitchers who the same handedness. Seager has been as advertised this season, ranking second amongst shortstops in home runs (five) and RBI (17) while carrying a .318 batting average.
Apr 26 2017Seager went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants. The star shortstop's bat has been as advertised this season (.312/.386/.506), but he is also showing a little more speed than he has in the past. He has gone 2-for-2 in steal attempts through 21 games after going 3-for-6 in 156 games last season. It is unlikely that he will suddenly develop 20-steal speed, but if he can get in the 5-10 range, it would give his owners an unexpected -- albeit small -- boost in value.
Apr 23 2017Seager went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a pair of walks in Sunday's win over Arizona. The trip to Chase field has been kind to the slugging shortstop, as he has gone 5-for-9 with a home run and five RBI in the three-game series with Arizona, boosting his batting average north of .300 in the process. Seager has been as advertised this season, leading all major-league shortstops with 15 RBI through 19 games.
Apr 22 2017Seager is out of Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports. The Dodgers will deploy a righty-heavy lineup with lefty Robbie Ray on the mound for Arizona. Enrique Hernandez will start at shortstop and lead off.
Apr 17 2017Seager went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.Even some of the best young players have bad nights like these, and the soon-to-be 23-year-old is no exception. Seager is now sporting an uncharacteristic 28.3 percent strikeout rate in the early going, but he also has a slash line of .283/.350/.491 despite the bad night at the plate. He's hitting .250 (5-for-20) with a home run against lefties so far, and he'll sometimes sit against them, but he remains a must-start whenever he's in the lineup.
Apr 17 2017Seager went 0-for-4 to snap a six-game hit streak during Sunday's loss to Arizona. The shortstop has recorded a hit in 11 of 13 games this season and already has eight runs, two home runs, 10 RBI, a stolen base and a .306/.375/.531 slash line. Expect more of the same from Seager going forward, and his game-to-game consistency is worth keeping in mind for daily contests -- especially in favorable matchups.
Apr 9 2017Seager went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in the 10-6 victory over the Rockies on Sunday. It was Seager's second dinger of the season, and he's now hitting .308 in the early going. The soon-to-be 23-year-old is one of the best all-around young shortstops in baseball, and he proved why yet again Sunday.
Apr 7 2017Seager is not in the Dodgers' lineup Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Though he has played strongly early on, the Dodgers apparently want to rest Seager against a left-handed pitcher (Kyle Freeland) and to manage his recent oblique injury. Enrique Hernandez is playing shortstop in his place. Expect Seager to return to the mix Saturday.
Apr 6 2017Seager reached base four times Thursday, going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and his first steal of the season in a win over the Padres. The star shortstop's concerning back injury during spring training seems like a distant memory after his strong start to the regular season (.313 with a homer and five RBI through four games). If Seager can build on his impressive rookie campaign, he should have no problem finishing the year as one of the game's top fantasy shortstops.
Apr 3 2017Seager finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's 14-3 win over the Padres.Seager was a spectator as his team built a big early lead, but he joined the party with a three-run dinger to left center in the fifth inning. He emerged as one of the best young hitters in the game last season and should have big things in store in his second full season as a Dodger.
Apr 1 2017Seager (oblique) is starting at shortstop in Saturday's game against the Angels, J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.Seager had been expected to return Sunday, but he'll be back in action a day early. With his return, it appears that Seager is all set for the Dodgers' Opening Day outing against the Padres.
Mar 30 2017Seager (oblique) is expected to start Sunday's game against the Angels in the Freeway Series, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Dodgers have been cautious with Seager's recovery from an oblique injury this spring, but they're confident enough in his progress to where he'll get back into game action Sunday. Provided that Seager makes it through his appearance without any setbacks, he figures to be ready for Opening Day against the Padres.
Mar 27 2017Seager (oblique) is scheduled to play in a minor league game Monday and will stay in Arizona for the first two games of the upcoming Freeway Series, Bill Plunkett of the OC Register reports.Seager continues to work back from an oblique injury that's kept him out of action for much of spring training. At this point, the team is focusing on getting Seager increased at-bats at the minor league level, but it appears he'll rejoin the Dodgers on Saturday prior to Opening Day. Seager could perhaps play in Saturday's home matchup with the Angels as Los Angeles wraps up its exhibition slate.
Mar 26 2017Seager (back) isn't satisfied with the quality of his swing, and he could stay back in Arizona when the team heads to Los Angeles for their final exhibition games later this week, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports. There are no reports of a setback with the shortstop's back, it just sounds like he isn't satisfied with his swing after missing the majority of spring training action. Seager has played in three minor league games this past week, and reportedly felt fine physically. If the Dodgers decide to hold their young star out of Freeway Series, it would simply be to get him more consistent at-bats in minor league camp, rather than a sign that they are planning on placing him on the disabled list to start the season.
Mar 24 2017Seager (oblique) is scheduled to work seven innings at shortstop Saturday in a minor league game and is likely to return to the Dodgers after that, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. There wasn't any initial clarification about whether this replaces or adds to his initially scheduled Friday efforts in a minor league outing. Either way, the fact they're projecting him to rejoin the big club soon marks a positive step for the highly coveted fantasy shortstop.
Mar 23 2017Seager (oblique) will hit and play four or five innings at shortstop in Friday's minor league game, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. After appearing in Tuesday's minor league game as DH, Seager is now scheduled to return to shortstop for the first time since injuring his oblique. This is encouraging, as the 22-year-old has been sidelined for most of March with the issue. It will be close, but barring any setbacks in the field on Friday, he still has time to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 21 2017Seager (oblique) will serve as DH in Tuesday's minor league game but will not take the field, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager was set to play three innings at shortstop to go along with his at-bats, but the Dodgers will continue to take it slow with him. If all goes well Tuesday, he is scheduled to play five innings on Thursday and could return to the field later in the week. The 22-year-old still has enough time to get ready for Opening Day, but it's looking like it will be a close call.
Mar 21 2017Seager (oblique) said he felt no discomfort in his side while serving as DH in Tuesday's minor league contest, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports,Seager went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, but the fact that he got through three at-bats without any discomfort is the bigger takeaway. He'll take off Wednesday before he progresses to five innings of work at shortstop in Thursday's minor league game. The Dodgers will continue to be cautious with the 22-year-old, but if he is able to avoid any setbacks through the rest of spring, he should have enough time to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 21 2017Seager (oblique) will get three at-bats and play three innings at shortstop in Tuesday's minor league game, SB Nation's Eric Stephen reports. It was originally reported that he would DH in the game, but the fact that he will also get action at shortstop is an encouraging sign. If all goes well, he will progress to five innings in the field on Thursday, presumably still on the minor league side, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports. Seager still has enough time to be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 21 2017Seager (oblique) is expected to DH in a minor league game Tuesday, AM 570's David Vassegh reports. The Dodgers said last week that they believe their star shortstop has enough time to be ready by Opening Day, but it's looking like it will be a close call. He will presumably progress to taking the field in a game later this week if he avoids setbacks. Enrique Hernandez or Chris Taylor would likely fill in at shortstop at the start of the season if Seager is not ready.
Mar 16 2017Manager Dave Roberts said that Seager (oblique) "absolutely" has enough time to get ready for Opening Day, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reported that the star shortstop ran, threw, and even took 25 to 30 swings at half speed Thursday and felt fine, so it seems like Roberts' hope is well within the realm of possibility. Of course, Seager will have to get back into games relatively soon in order to have his activity built up enough for a full regular season game, but the Dodgers seem optimistic that the youngster can progress quickly enough for that to happen. Either way, his status moving forward should become clearer as he continues to ramp up his activity.
Mar 16 2017Seager (oblique) has been medically cleared to throw Thursday, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager isn't expected to suit up for game action until next week but moves on to a positive step in his recovery from oblique tightness. His prolonged absence might've simply been an effort by the club to ease him back in during an extended spring training. If the 22-year-old fails to return to game action next week, however, the level of concern will rise.
Mar 13 2017Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Seager probably wouldn't play in games this week, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager has had his return date pushed back several times already this spring, and although Roberts also noted the shortstop would still have time to get ready for Opening Day, his extended absence is starting to raise questions. It's still a little early to hit the panic button on the 22-year-old, but his progress in the coming days will be something to monitor.
Mar 11 2017Seager (oblique) remains without a timetable to return, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. The Dodgers' everyday shortstop continues to be hampered by tightness in his oblique. The fact that he is still without a timetable despite initial expectations of a return Saturday is concerning, but there's still no indication that his status for Opening Day is in jeopardy. In any case, Seager's progress in the coming days will be a story line to monitor.
Mar 10 2017Seager (back/oblique) is still experiencing tightness and it's uncertain when he may return to the lineup, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports. The plan was for Seager to return to action Saturday but manager Dave Roberts backed off that expectation Friday. To this point, the injury has been classified as an upper-back issue, but Roberts clarified that's it's actually a "mild" oblique injury. Seager still has time to ramp up toward Opening Day but this will be a situation worth monitoring closely.
Mar 8 2017Manager Dave Roberts said that he expects Seager (back) to be get back into the lineup Saturday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. The Dodgers skipper originally had said that his young shortstop could return by Friday, but then backed off that return date. Regardless of the exact date, the Dodgers are simply taking things slowly with their franchise player as they gear up for the regular season. Seager should be back to full health with plenty of time before Opening Day, barring any extraneous circumstances.
Mar 7 2017Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that he is no longer sure Seager (back) will be able to return to game action Friday, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.Roberts backed off the projected return date of Friday from earlier in the week, but said he is still not concerned about Seager's status for Opening Day. This is obviously not an ideal situation, but it seems like the Dodgers are just using extreme caution with their star shortstop.
Mar 6 2017Seager (back) is out of the Dodgers lineup again Monday, and may not return until Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. He's now missed three consecutive days with the upper-back stiffness, but the Dodgers are chalking it up to an "abundance of caution." He'll get plenty of rest and should be ready to go by Friday, if not earlier.
Mar 5 2017Seager (back) is out of the Dodgers' lineup Sunday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.Seager was also held out of Saturday's action due to upper back stiffness. Though he's now missed two consecutive days, there are no reports that this injury is anything too serious. The star shortstop will continue to be considered day-to-day.
Mar 4 2017Seager will take the day off Saturday due to stiffness in his upper back, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. The issue doesn't appear to be anything serious, but the Dodgers will hold Seager out of action Saturday as a precaution. Consider the All-Star day-to-day until the team says otherwise.
Mar 3 2017Seager (shin) is back in the Dodgers' Cactus League lineup Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. After tests came back clear on his shin, the elite shortstop will return to action. The 22-year-old ranks as a borderline first-round pick in mixed fantasy drafts.
Mar 1 2017X-rays on Seager's injured shin returned negative and manager Dave Roberts suggested Wednesday evening that he is expected to rejoin the lineup Friday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. This is a positive sign for the Dodgers and fantasy owners alike, as the Seager appears to have avoided any serious damage. Assuming he stays healthy, the 22-year-old shortstop figures to place among the elite at his position in the league again in 2017.
Mar 1 2017Seager fouled a pitch off his right shin but said he will return to the lineup Friday, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports. He fouled the pitch off his shin, just above his protective guard. It sounds like a minor ailment, and he should be back in action this weekend.
Feb 14 2017Seager enters camp as the Dodgers' everyday shortstop.Seager was everything the Dodgers hoped he could be, and more, in his first full season as a starter. He slashed an impressive .308/.365/.512 in 687 plate appearances. His 40 doubles ranked first among MLB shortstops and his 26 homers ranked second. Those numbers themselves are worth early-round consideration in fantasy drafts, but the potential of the 22-year-old shortstop improving this season is what makes him such a desired commodity.
Sep 29 2016Seager is absent from Thursday's lineup against the Padres, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports. It's likely just a day of rest for the elite shortstop. Expect him to be back in there Friday. Charlie Culberson is taking his spot and batting second Thursday against San Diego left-hander Christian Friedrich.
Sep 25 2016Seager went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. The Dodgers were down to their last out when Seager, who'd tied the game with a run-scoring triple in his previous at-bat, smacked a game-tying homer off Adam Ottavino to send the game to extra innings. The long ball was his 26th of the year but first since Sept. 10. Seager finished the day a double short of the cycle, snapping an 0-for-13 skid at the plate and raising his slash line to .313/.371/.523.
Sep 22 2016Seager was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Giants. The probable NL Rookie of the Year and potential MVP candidate is batting .317/.375/.525 with 25 home runs while playing top-notch defense at shortstop.
Sep 5 2016Seager scored twice, drove in three runs and hit his 24th home run in a 3-for-5 game Monday against the Diamondbacks.Seager went on a power tear in August, with seven doubles, five home runs and a .552 slugging percentage over 27 games last month. It looks like he's ready for more of the same in September. Seager's season slugging percentage is up to .535, second only to Manny Machado among qualified shortstops.
Sep 4 2016Seager is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres.Seager rarely sees time off, as the young shortstop has started 124 of 135 games for the Dodgers this season. He'll get a regular maintenance day against lefty Christian Friedrich, however, with manager Dave Roberts electing to avoid the lefty-lefty matchup by awarding Charlie Culberson the start for the afternoon matchup.
Aug 31 2016Seager (hand) is back in the lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, the Los Angeles Times' Andy McCullough reports. He missed just one game with the hand injury and will return to the two hole for Wednesday's matinee. It would not be surprising for him to be held out of the nightcap in an effort to ease him back, but owners will at least get to enjoy one game from Seager in Coors Field on Wednesday.
Aug 30 2016Seager (hand) is expected to return to the lineup Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.X-rays were negative after Seager was hit on the left hand/wrist area during Monday's game and it sounds like the 22-year-old will return after missing just one start. Seager is batting .370/.429/.584 since the All-Star break and is looking like a potential first-round pick in 15-team leagues next year.
Aug 30 2016As expected, Seager (hand) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies. It was reported Monday night that Seager would not start Tuesday, and that will indeed be the case. Charlie Culberson will get the start at shortstop in Seager's place.
Aug 29 2016Seager suffered an injury to his left hand during Monday's game and has already been ruled out Tuesday against the Rockies, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.Seager sustained the injury after being hit by a pitch Monday, but X-rays came back negative and it seems as though he's just dealing with swelling. He'll have an opportunity to return Wednesday, since manager Dave Roberts had actually planned on resting Seager on Tuesday anyway.
Aug 28 2016Seager went 1-for-4 with a first-inning solo homer in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Cubs. The standout shortstop took Jason Hammel deep in the first to open the scoring for the Dodgers, his third straight game with a hit. Seager has also hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games during what has been a standout August in which he's tallied seven doubles, five homers and 12 RBI.
Aug 20 2016Seager was one of the few Dodgers to show up offensively in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Reds, going 2-for-3 with an RBI single, two walks and a run.The dynamic shortstop plated Rob Segedin with his seventh-inning single, which was the first run of the game for the Dodgers. Seager also scored the only other run, coming in on an A.J. Ellis groundout in the ninth. He now has a 10-game hitting streak with eight multihit efforts during the streak.
Aug 20 2016Seager is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds. The Reds are starting a lefty in Brandon Finnegan but it's still odd to not see Seager in there. A reason for his absence was not immediately provided. With a pair of base knocks Friday, Seager extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he's recorded multiple hits in all but two games over that span. Chris Taylor starts at shortstop in his absence.
Aug 14 2016Seager went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run in Saturday's 8-4 victory over the Pirates. He continues to wield a red-hot bat, with five straight multi-hit efforts. Seager also has a pair of doubles, three homers and six RBI over his first 46 at-bats in August and a .304/.347/543 line for the month overall.
Aug 12 2016Seager (wrist) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.X-rays on Seager's wrist were negative after he was hit by a pitch Wednesday, with the official diagnosis being a minor bone bruise. Seager will tough it out and play Friday without missing a start as he looks to build on his MVP-caliber .305/.360/.534 line in his rookie campaign.
Aug 10 2016X-rays on Seager's bruised wrist came back negative Wednesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.Seager went 2-for-3 for his third straight multi-hit game Wednesday, but suffered a minor bone bruise in the process. Aug 8 2016Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in Monday's victory over the Phillies.Seager's solo shot in the bottom of the first was the first of many Dodgers runs in a 9-4 rout. Jul 31 2016Seager went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and a pair of runs scored in the Dodgers' 14-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday. With his team already up 8-3 and with two runners on base, Seager got to face D-Backs rookie reliever Steve Hathaway in Hathaway's first career big league appearance. Seager got the best of the rookie, and deposited a truly awful curveball into the right field bleachers. Seager, who is amazingly still just 22 years old, is tearing up the NL this season, hitting .310/.365/.532. The .532 slugging mark is the best among all MLB shortstops save Colorado phenom Trevor Story. But Seager has had the more complete season, leading NL shortstops in hits and runs as well. In short, Seager is a stud and looks to be one for years to come.

On the season, Seager is hitting .322 with 13 home runs against right-handed pitching.
Jul 21 2016Seager (flu) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Nationals, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.Seager will effectively be held out of the starting lineup for the third straight game after starting to experience flu-like symptoms on Tuesday. It's a bit of a lengthy absence for a common illness, but the team will take it easy with the young shortstop and give him ample time to recovery. Chris Taylor will get the starting nod in his stead Thursday afternoon.
Jul 19 2016Seager is not in the Dodgers starting lineup on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.Seager, who hit three doubles in Monday's game, will get the day off as the Dodgers take on Reynaldo Lopez and the Nationals on Tuesday. Seager is third in the NL All-Star voting at shortstop behind the Cubs' Addison Russell and the Rockies' Trevor Story.
Jun 29 2016Seager went 1-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's 7-0 loss to the Brewers. The Dodgers phenom had the team's sole extra-base hit on a night when Brewers starter Junior Guerra stymied hitters across the lineup. Seager managed to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, and is now hitting .337 (33-for-98) during June while raising his season average 18 points in the process.

Seager also has multi-hit efforts in five of his last six contests, and has his impressive June line up to .349/.409/.663 over 83 at-bats. Jun 14 2016Seager hit a solo home run, scored twice and walked in a 2-for-4 game Monday against the Dodgers.Seager's 15 home runs puts him just one behind Manny Machado and Trevor Story for the major league lead among shortstops, as his power production has blossomed earlier than anyone could have predicted. He reached 20 home runs just once in the minor leagues but is well on his way to do that in his first major league season this year. Seager was never going to match his .337/.425/.561 line from his brief stint last year, but he's proving his hot debut was no fluke.
Jun 8 2016Seager is is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.Seager is out of the starting lineup for the first time since May 9. In his place, the Dodgers will start Enrique Hernandez at shortstop, batting leadoff. Seager has been hitting well lately, with seven hits, five home runs and seven RBI in the past five games. He will most likely be back in the starting lineup Friday against the Giants.
Jun 3 2016Seager went 3-for-4 with three solo home runs during Friday's win against the Braves. All three of Seager's hits left the yard, and he had his best game in the majors at the plate. The shortstop saw his average rise to .283 on the season.
May 15 2016Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The youngster had six total bases in Saturday's game, and he kept it up in Sunday night primetime, providing the only offense the Dodgers could muster as a team. He is now batting a cool .440 with three home runs, six RBI and six runs scored over the last six games.
May 11 2016Seager went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and run scored in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Mets. The 22-year-old got the scoring started for the Dodgers with a first-inning double that plated Chase Utley. Jun 13 2015Seager is out of the Triple-A Oklahoma City lineup for the second day in a row Saturday after jamming his finger earlier in the week, The Oklahoman's Jacob Unruh reports. He apparently jammed a finger sliding in Thursday's game, and it sounds like he is day-to-day. Seager is the second best hitting prospect in the minor leagues behind only Byron Buxton, and he should force his way to The Show sometime this summer.
May 18 2015Seager, 21, currently has a six-game hitting streak at Triple-A Oklahoma City, which has pushed his line to .281/.324/.344 through 16 games since his promotion from Double-A at the beginning of the month.Although he fanned three times Sunday, Seager has only struck out 13 times in 64 at-bats against Triple-A pitching thus far. The Dodgers' infield remains crowded on the left side, but a prolonged stretch of top-end production in the PCL could go a long way in forcing the front office to consider bringing him up during the second half of the season. It should be noted that he's played three games at third base since being promoted, while most of his time (14 games) has been accrued at shortstop.
May 1 2015Seager has been promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, MLB.com reports.Seager was removed from Thursday's game with Double-A Tulsa, but only after hitting his fifth home run of the season, bringing his slash line to .375/.407/.675 through 20 games. Tulsa manager Razor Shines said Seager is the best player he's ever managed, and even went so far as to loosely compare the young infielder to Willie Mays and Hank Aaron in terms of dominance. Not that those comparisons actually matter, but it's highly impressive how Seager has consistently dominated through multiple levels of the minor leagues. While there's no denying his value in dynasty leagues, it's somewhat problematic that the Dodgers already have an embarrassment of riches in the infield. Jimmy Rollins, Juan Uribe and Howie Kendrick are all healthy at the moment, while fellow top prospect Alex Guerrero is also on the big-league roster. It thus seems likely that Seager will stick with Triple-A Oklahoma City for a while, even if he continues to rake.
May 1 2015Seager was removed without injury from Thursday night's game in the fourth inning for Double-A Tulsa, fueling speculation that he's getting promoted to Triple-A.If that's the case, Seager went out on a high note, hitting a homer in his final at-bat Thursday. He's hitting .375/.407/.675. The Dodgers have been playing him more at third base, perhaps hastening his callup to the big leagues.
Feb 27 2015Seager will only play shortstop this spring, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports. The general thought is that Seager's size (he's a Ripkenesque 6'4") will eventually force him to third base, but for now, the Dodgers seem content with his defense. He could be an option later this season should there be a need.
Dec 9 2014Seager will join the Dodgers in the big-league camp during spring training as a non-roster invite, the Los Angeles Times reports. One of the top prospects in the Dodges' organization, Seager isn't expected to make the roster out of spring. A late-season debut, though, could happen.
Nov 11 2014The Dodgers have no immediate plans to move Seager off of shortstop, TrueBlueLA.com reports. "His hands work really well. We have a number of guys who feel like he has a real chance to stick there," Dodgers president of baseball operations Friedman said. "In the few games we got to see him a couple weeks ago he had a lot of different chances and completed plays from all different angles - to the backhand, up the middle. His body control is really good."While Seager has acknowledged a willingness to move to third base if desired, the Dodgers are likely trying to maximize Seager's short-term value as a prospect by keeping him at shortstop. At 6-foot-4, a move to third base seems very likely for Seager, but he's played just one game at the position over three seasons as a professional.
Jul 19 2013Seager, 19, is slashing .304/.390/.496 with eight home runs, 45 RBI and nine steals through 62 games for Low-A Great Lakes.Seager has been scorching of late, hitting .364/.523/.545 over his last 10 contests.
Apr 22 2013Seager went 5-for-6 for Low-A Great Lakes in the doubleheader on Sunday.Seager is raw, but also projectable and talented. We'll know when he really starts to adjust to Midwest League pitching as his SO:BB is 15:6 right now.
