Mar 24 2024The Athletics placed Gott (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His move to the 60-day IL frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for veteran reliever Austin Adams, whom the Athletics acquired from the Mets on Sunday. Gott is slated to undergo Tommy John surgery in the coming days and will miss the entire 2024 season, and quite likely, the early part of the 2025 campaign.
Mar 22 2024Gott will undergo Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with a fully torn UCL in his right elbow, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's not clear how long the elbow has been bothering Gott, but he was blasted for eight runs in three innings this spring. He had still been in the late-inning bullpen picture for the Athletics but instead will miss the entire 2024 campaign and will become a free agent this offseason.
Mar 15 2024Gott has allowed three earned runs on four hits and a walk while also recording three strikeouts over three innings in three Cactus League appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The third time was the charm for Gott this spring, as he was able to pitch a clean inning with two strikeouts against the Diamondbacks on Monday after surrendering three earned runs over his first pair of turns. Despite the struggles, Gott could be utilized in some high-leverage spots this season, although Mason Miller and Dany Jimenez project to be the top options for ninth-inning work.
Feb 6 2024Gott is viewed by general manager David Forst as a potential candidate for save chances this coming season, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Forst notes the team and Gott had discussed the right-handed journeyman getting closing opportunities when he signed a one-year deal in December. The 31-year-old is just 6-for-17 in save chances during a big-league career that dates back to 2015, but he does have 255 regular-season appearances on his resume and boasts a mid-90s fastball. Forst added that Dany Jimenez and Mason Miller are also firmly in the mix for the closer's role, and he didn't rule out the possibility of another free-agent signing before the start of the campaign.
Dec 15 2023Gott signed a one-year contract Friday with the Athletics, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott registered a decent 4.19 ERA and 62:19 K:BB in 58 innings of relief last season between the Mariners and Mets while holding right-handed batters to a .222/.280/.306 slash line. The 31-year-old is now with his seventh different MLB team and projects to fill a high-leverage role in Oakland's patchwork bullpen.
Aug 29 2023Gott (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Monday against Texas. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with protecting a one-run lead in the ninth as Adam Ottavino had pitched the prior two days, Gott immediately found himself in trouble after surrendering a pair of hits to open the frame. The right-hander would manage to strike out Leody Taveras and Marcus Semien before Nathaniel Lowe drove in two runs with a two-out single. Gott's now given up six runs over his last 1.2 innings, raising his ERA to 4.82 with a 1.52 WHIP and 53:15 K:BB across 46.2 innings between the Mets and Mariners this season. While New York's lack of bullpen options could keep Gott in a high-leverage role, fantasy managers would be best served looking for saves elsewhere.
Aug 29 2023Gott (0-1) blew the save and took the loss Monday against Texas. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with protecting a one-run lead in the ninth due to Adam Ottavino having pitched the prior two days, Gott immediately found himself in trouble after surrendering a pair of hits to open the frame.
Aug 18 2023Gott gave up two hits and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Thursday to record his first save of the season in a win over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley both having worked three of the prior four days, manager Buck Showalter had to get creative at the end of a 4-2 game, and Gott received the call in the ninth. The right-hander made things interesting by giving up a couple singles, but he then struck out Paul Goldschmidt to end the night. Drew Smith was needed in the seventh to get out of a jam with two on and nobody out, suggesting he's still viewed as the higher-leverage option, but Gott has earned his place in the late-inning mix with a 12-appearance scoreless streak during which he's posted a 12:3 K:BB through 11.1 innings.
Jul 3 2023Gott and right-hander Chris Flexen were traded to the Mets from the Mariners in exchange for southpaw Zach Muckenhirn on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott will head to New York as the Mets look to bolster their bullpen. The 30-year-old has produced a 4.03 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 32 strikeouts over 29 innings in 30 appearances with the Mariners this season and will likely operate in a middle-relief role with his new squad.
Jun 28 2023Gott (0-3) took the extra-innings loss against the Nationals on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk across one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tasked with preserving a 4-4 tie when he entered in the 11th inning, Gott, who'd been activated from the injured list prior to Tuesday's game, nearly escaped unscathed but allowed a two-out, two-run double to Lane Thomas and an RBI single to Luis Garcia. Those three runs proved the difference in the game, handing the righty a loss. He also conceded five earned runs on four hits over one inning against the Rangers on June 4 in his last outing before going on the IL, and with that, Gott has seen what was once a 1.75 ERA quickly balloon to 3.90.
Jun 27 2023Seattle activated Gott (back) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Recovered from a three-week battle with lower back spasms, Gott will return to the Mariners' bullpen Tuesday night against the Nationals. Chris Flexen was designated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
Jun 6 2023The Mariners placed Gott on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with lower back spasms. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was hit hard in his last appearance, allowing five runs on four hits and a walk in just one inning of work. A trip to the injured list will ensure that the 30-year-old reliever is feeling 100 percent during his next time on the mound. Gott currently holds a 3.38 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 31 strikeouts through 26.2 frames out of the bullpen.
Apr 30 2023Gott (0-2) took the loss in extra innings against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk without retiring a batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Called on in a tie game for the second time in as many days, Gott once again faltered. Saturday, his troubles began immediately when he allowed a Vladimir Guerrero single that advanced inning-opening runner Bo Bichette to third base and then surrendered a game-winning single to Daulton Varsho after intentionally walking Matt Chapman. After opening the season with five straight scoreless appearances, Gott has now surrendered at least an unearned run in five of his subsequent eight outings.
Apr 29 2023Gott (0-1) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing an earned run on two hits and a hit batsman over one inning. He struck out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran right-hander saw a streak of four appearances without allowing an earned run snapped when he surrendered a go-ahead single to George Springer in the sixth inning that would prove to be the difference in the game. Friday's stumble notwithstanding, Gott has been a relatively effective asset out of the bullpen in his first Mariners season, posting five holds alongside a 2.57 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 14 innings over 13 appearances.
Mar 16 2023Gott has a 2-0 record, 6.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 5.2 innings over six Cactus League appearances. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott has actually been much more effective than his ERA and WHIP would indicate, as the bloated figures are essentially the byproduct of one poor outing against the Guardians on Feb. 28. The veteran right-hander allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning, but Gott has otherwise fired five scoreless frames during which he's conceded four hits while recording three strikeouts. Gott is expected to be a key middle-innings asset for manager Scott Servais after posting 11 holds alongside a 4.14 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 45 appearances for the Brewers in 2022.
Nov 28 2022Gott signed a one-year contract with the Mariners on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott will head to the West Coast after spending the 2022 campaign with Milwaukee. He served as one of the Brewers' most dependable arms during the 2022 season, finishing with a 4.14 ERA and 1.03 WHIP to go with a 44:12 K:BB across 45.2 innings. Gott is a much-needed addition for the Mariners, who have little veteran experience in the bullpen outside of Paul Sewald, Andrew Munoz and Diego Castillo.
Sep 21 2022Gott (forearm) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott sustained a right forearm strain in mid-August but was cleared to resume throwing later in the month. He spent the last week and a half on a rehab assignment and struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings over three minor-league appearances. It's possible the right-hander serves as an occasional setup man down the stretch.
Sep 10 2022Gott (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Wisconsin on Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott landed on the injured list with a right forearm strain just under a month ago, but he resumed throwing in late August. He's expected to make just one appearance at Wisconsin prior to reporting to Nashville, and it's possible that he'll be cleared to return by next weekend.
Aug 26 2022Gott (forearm) started playing catch Friday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott has been out for just over two weeks with a right forearm strain, but he's making steps in the right direction. It's unclear if he'll require a rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list.
Aug 13 2022Gott was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 11. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott spent time on the injured list with a groin injury earlier in the year, but he's now dealing with a forearm issue that will force him to miss at least two more weeks. He'll be eligible to return in late August, but it's not yet clear when he'll be able to rejoin the Brewers. Peter Strzelecki was recalled to take Gott's place in the bullpen.
Jun 25 2022Gott (groin) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was on the injured list since early June, but he began a rehab assignment at High-A Wisconsin this week and allowed three runs in two innings. The right-hander worked his way into some setup duties prior to his absence, as he picked up seven holds while posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 21 innings over 22 appearances to begin the year.
Jun 20 2022Gott (groin) will report to High-A Wisconsin on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was placed on the 15-day injured list June 7 with a right groin strain but looks as though he could be ready to rejoin the Brewers shortly after a minimum-length stay on the shelf. Prior to being deactivated, he appeared in 22 games of the bullpen and submitted a 3.86 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB across 21 innings.
Jun 7 2022Gott was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain Tuesday, retroactive to June 6. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott dealt with a quad issue in early May, and he'll now be forced to spend time on the injured list due to a groin strain. It's not yet clear how much time the right-hander is expected to miss, but Tuesday's move made room on the active roster for Hunter Renfroe, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Gott posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in five innings over his last five outings.
May 13 2022Gott has recovered from the quadriceps injury that bothered him earlier this week, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was unavailable due to the injury Tuesday and Wednesday, but he's apparently good to go coming off Milwaukee's scheduled day off Thursday. Gott has four holds and a 1.64 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 15:1 K:BB across 11 innings this season.
May 10 2022Gott was unavailable during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Reds due to a quadriceps injury, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was limited to only 12 pitches during his appearance Monday due to the injury, leading to him not being available Tuesday. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, so the right-hander should be considered day-to-day.
Apr 15 2022Gott tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Thursday's 5-1 victory over the Cardinals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott entered Thursday's contest in the sixth inning with the Brewers up five runs, and he blanked the Cardinals over two frames while facing just one batter over the minimum. Gott did not appear in a big-league game in 2021, but he is doing his best to hold down a spot in the Brewers' bullpen, giving up just two hits and posting a 5:0 K:BB over three scoreless innings to date.
Nov 3 2021Gott signed a one-year contract with the Brewers on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott spent the entire 2021 season at Triple-A Sacramento and recorded a 4.10 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 41.2 innings across 43 appearances (one start). He'll now have the chance to carve out a bullpen role with the Brewers in spring training after landing a major-league contract.
Apr 20 2021Gott was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott's contract was selected on Monday, but he'll fall right back off the 40-man roster just one day later. He did not get into a game during his brief time with the team.
Apr 19 2021Gott's contract was selected by the Giants on Monday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott has been working at the Giants' alternate training site since the start of the regular season, but he'll now join the major-league bullpen as part of a shuffle after Steven Duggar and Chadwick Tromp were sent down Monday. Gott made 15 relief appearances for San Francisco last year and recorded four saves while posting a 10.03 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 11.2 innings.
Mar 30 2021The Giants reassigned Gott to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was one of four non-roster relievers with previous big-league experience whom the Giants sent back to minor-league camp ahead of Opening Day. The 28-year-old righty was lit up for 13 runs over 11.2 innings with the Giants during the abbreviated 2020 campaign before he was dropped from the 40-man roster in February.
Feb 21 2021Gott was designated for assignment by the Giants on Sunday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott recorded four saves for the Giants last season, but he also allowed 13 runs in 11.2 innings and posted an 8:8 K:BB. With a career 5.01 ERA in parts of six big-league seasons, he probably won't be a particularly hot commodity on the waiver wire.
Feb 17 2021Gott (elbow) completed a bullpen session Wednesday during the Giants' first workout of spring training, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott finished the past season on the injured list while battling right elbow inflammation, but his ability to throw at the start of camp suggests he'll enter the 2021 campaign with no restrictions. The right-hander received a look in the closer's role last season but couldn't hold down the job, posting a 10.03 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 15 appearances before being shut down. With Reyes Moronta (shoulder) healthy for the start of 2021 and the Giants also adding Jake McGee and Matt Wisler in free agency, Gott will likely find himself lower in the bullpen pecking order.
Dec 2 2020Gott (elbow) agreed to a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Giants on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He finished the year on the shelf with elbow inflammation, so the Giants must have faith in him contributing in some form in 2021. Prior to the injury, Gott gave up 13 runs in 11.2 innings, so he will likely work in low-leverage spots to start the season.
Sep 13 2020The Giants placed Gott on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The transaction is retroactive to Sept. 10, so Gott won't be eligible to return from the IL until the final week of the regular season. The injury is a tough break for Gott, who had just stringed together several quality outings after losing hold of the closing gig in mid-August, when he blew two saves and gave up 11 earned runs over a three-appearance stretch.
Aug 18 2020Gott (1-2) blew his second straight save opportunity in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Angels, retiring one hitter via strikeout before serving up a walkoff two-run home run to Tommy La Stella. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After allowing one run in his first six appearances of the season while going 4-for-4 in save chances, Gott appeared to build some job security as the Giants' closer. Gott has been in a downward spiral ever since, however, as he's now given up 11 runs over his last three outings, retiring just four hitters over that stretch. With Gott blowing his second save in three days, manager Gabe Kapler said after the game that in the short-term, he'll look for "softer landing spots" for the right-hander and "evaluate what other options we have in the high-leverage moments," per Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com. Kapler's comments seemingly hint that other pitchers could factor into future save situations, with Tony Watson, Trevor Rogers and Shaun Anderson standing out as the top alternatives to close out games.
Aug 16 2020Gott blew the save and picked up the loss Saturday against Oakland, pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott began the game a perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities, but he was pounded by the Athletics for the second straight day to blow his first save of the campaign. The right-hander entered the series against Oakland having yielded only one earned run over six innings, but he has been knocked around for nine earned runs while registering only three outs over the last two games to drive his ERA all the way up to an unsightly 12.86.
Aug 12 2020Gott (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Astros after pitching a scoreless inning, allowing one walk and striking out one. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott walked a batter for the third straight outing, but that might be the lone negative point in his outing. The 27-year-old right-hander has gone five straight appearances without allowing a run and owns a sterling 1.50 ERA in six games this season.
Aug 8 2020Gott earned his fourth save of the season Saturday against the Dodgers after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed one walk. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott is now 4-for-4 in save opportunities this season, and the 27-year-old right-hander has gone four straight outings without allowing runs, fanning two and walking two in that stretch. The strikeout numbers aren't eye-popping -- just two in five innings -- but he's getting the job done, and that should keep him as the Giants' closer for the foreseeable future.
Aug 6 2020Gott threw a scoreless ninth inning against the Rockies on Wednesday to earn his third save of the season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After putting the tying run aboard via a two-out walk, Gott struck out Garrett Hampson to end the threat. Manager Gabe Kapler talked quite a bit about not having defined roles in the bullpen, but he's actually had a fairly traditional structure at the back end. Kapler has leaned on heavily on Tyler Rogers, Shaun Anderson and Tony Watson to set up while Gott has received all three save chances the team has had thus far.
Jul 26 2020Gott worked around a hit to throw a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save against the Dodgers on Sunday. He struck out one batter. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tony Watson and Tyler Rogers were widely seen as the top two candidates for ninth-inning duties in San Francisco, but manager Gabe Kapler has handed the ball to Gott for the Giants' first two save chances. Gott has shut the door both times, and looked pretty good doing so Sunday, striking out Max Muncy swinging with a 96-mph fastball to end it. Kapler has said that he won't have defined roles, but he tipped his hand this weekend, and with that Gott looks like the arm to roster in fantasy leagues.
Jul 25 2020Gott allowed a solo home run but earned the save Saturday in a 5-4 win over the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott was taken deep by Dodgers catcher Will Smith to start the bottom of the ninth inning, but he was able to retire the next three batters in order to secure the save. In 2019, Gott featured in more of a middle-relief role for the Giants, but he's their first reliever to record a save this season. Tony Watson remains the favorite for the bulk of closer duties, but Gott could be useful for fantasy mangers in formats that count holds.
Jul 16 2020Gott is expected to be a factor in high-leverage, late-inning situations in 2020, but Giants manager Gabe Kapler isn't likely to define roles for any of his relievers prior to Opening Day, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. "We don't really have the personnel with the track record where we could just slot guys into roles," Kapler said. "Outside of [Tony Watson], and Watty is still working himself into shape, we don't have a long track record of success, a long track record of guys being in one role in our bullpen. I think roles will define themselves as performance happens in-season at the major-league level." ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: During his time as Philadelphia's manager, Kapler was similarly reluctant to set roles for his top late-inning options, so it's no surprise he's planning to take a similar approach with a Giants bullpen that's lacking in proven options. That reality makes it difficult to bank on any one Giants pitcher being the top option for saves, but when handicapping the closer situation, Pavlovic suggests that Gott is an "easy third answer" behind Tony Watson and Tyler Rogers. A former college closer, Gott already boasts ninth-inning experience, and he was generally one of the Giants' more dominant bullpen arms in 2019, posting an 18.7 K-BB% while doing a good job of keeping the ball in the yard (0.7 HR/9). The Giants have had Gott stretch out during both spring training and summer camp, suggesting that he could be groomed for a potential multi-inning role that might give him some value as a ratio stabilizer even if he's not getting save opportunities.
Feb 27 2020The Giants want Gott, who is one of only a couple relievers assured of making the Opening Day roster, to be versatile enough to pitch at any time, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old righty is out of minor-league options, so he should make the 26-man roster out of camp, but it doesn't sound like he is being groomed for a ninth-inning role. Manager Gabe Kapler said that if a pitcher grabs a hold of the closer role during spring training, he would name an official closer, but he is also open to going into the season with undefined roles. Tony Watson is the most accomplished reliever of the bunch, so he is the de facto favorite to lead the team in saves, but this could be a situation where there is not one pitcher getting enough consistent save opportunities to provide fantasy value in mixed leagues.
Sep 26 2019Gott (elbow) had surgery on his groin and is expected to make a full recovery within six weeks, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gott apparently dealt with a groin injury for most of the season. He also dealt with a UCL sprain and flexor strain in his right elbow but should be ready to go by the time spring training rolls around. Gott compiled a 4.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 52.2 innings this season.
Sep 6 2019Gott (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This puts an end to Gott's season, as he last pitched Aug. 26. He finishes with a 4.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 52.2 innings.
Aug 27 2019Gott won't throw for two weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL sprain and a flexor strain in his right elbow, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Aug 26 2019Gott walked off the mound with the team trainer during Monday night's game against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Aug 17 2019Gott earned a one-out save against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Jul 15 2018Gott was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Gott heads back to the majors for the first time since early June to replace Austin Voth, who was optioned to Syracuse following Saturday's spot start against the Mets. It may not be a long-term stay with the big club for Gott, who will likely be one of the top options for a demotion the next time the Nationals need to add a player to the active roster. Over 18 relief appearances with Washington on the season, Gott has accrued a 4.96 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB in 16.1 innings.
Jun 10 2018Gott was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Gott and fellow minor-league reliever Wander Suero have been summoned from Syracuse following the placements of Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) and Brandon Kintzler (forearm) on the disabled list. Gott owned a 5.28 ERA over 15.1 innings of relief with the Nationals prior to his demotion on May 31.
May 7 2018Gott (ankle) hit a batter, allowed one walk and struck out two during a scoreless eighth inning Monday night against the Padres.Gott appears to have fully recovered from a sprained ankle after entering Monday's game out of the bullpen. He managed to throw a scoreless inning despite struggling with his command, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. Gott has accrued a 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 11.2 innings this season.
May 6 2018Gott (ankle) is available out of the bullpen Sunday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.Gott suffered a sprained ankle Friday, but the team is confident the right-hander will not require any time on the DL. He'll be available if needed Sunday, but don't count on an appearance with one of the league's best starters in Max Scherzer scheduled to take the mound.
May 4 2018Gott suffered a sprained ankle during Friday's win over the Phillies, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.Gott sustained the injury slipping on the mound, and allowed three runs on three hits -- including two home runs -- while recording only one out. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day until he is further evaluated Saturday.
Apr 21 2018Gott was called up to the majors to replace the injured Matt Grace (groin) on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.Gott had been down with Triple-A Syracuse for just five days after having originally made the Opening Day roster. In his first five innings for the Nationals this season he had a 5.40 ERA, walking three batters and striking out three.
Apr 16 2018Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.Gott was sent down to make room for Jeremy Hellickson, who was activated in order to make his first start of the season. The 25-year-old threw five innings for the Nationals before being sent down, striking out three, walking three and allowing three earned runs on three hits. He could be up again later this season in a low-leverage bullpen role.
Mar 26 2018Gott survived the final round of roster cuts and is set to be on the Opening Day roster, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports. He's pitched only nine innings for the Nats over the last two seasons, and Gott's 4.11 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 66:26 K:BB in 76.2 innings for Triple-A Syracuse over that stretch doesn't suggest he's about to become a key member of their bullpen. Expect the right-hander to work in middle relief and low-leverage situations, limiting his chances to record holds -- much less saves.
Mar 15 2018Gott tightened his slider during the offseason, giving him a second strong pitch and putting him in contention for the final spot in the Nationals' bullpen, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports. The right-hander has only thrown nine innings in the big leagues over the last two seasons, but Gott has yet to allow a run this spring with a 5:2 K:BB through six innings and has impressed the coaching staff with his improved breaking pitch. If he does win a spot on the 25-man roster it still wouldn't come with much fantasy upside, however.
Jul 14 2017Gott will be recalled by Washington prior to Friday's game against the Reds, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.Gott has been having a solid year with Triple-A Syracuse, and will provide depth out of the bullpen for the Nationals as the second half of the season begins. He's made two appearances at the big-league level in 2017, allowing five earned runs off six hits and a pair of walks over the course of two innings. With the bullpen being a clear weakness for Washington at this point, Gott could wind up earning some high-leverage appearances if he can find success on the mound this time around.
Jun 15 2017Gott was sent back to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.Gott will head back to Syracuse after allowing five runs on five hits and two walks over 1.2 innings during Wednesday's 13-2 loss to the Braves. The 24-year-old should continue to ride the shuttle between the majors and minors whenever the Nationals need bullpen help.
Jun 12 2017Gott will be recalled from Triple-A ahead of Monday's contest against the Braves, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.Gott has found success with Triple-A Syracuse so far this season, compiling a 3.30 ERA and 28:6 K:BB across 30 innings pitched (23 appearances). The 24-year-old owns a combined 2.85 ERA in the majors over the past two seasons (53.2 innings), and although it's a small sample size, he could still see some higher-leverage innings given the Nationals' bullpen injuries and struggles. A corresponding move will likely be announced prior to Monday's series opener.
Mar 29 2017Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, MLB.com's Jamal Collier reports.Gott has yet to establish himself as a trusted bullpen arm at the major-league level, so he likely needed an impressive spring in order to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Alas, after the 24-year-old was blown up for four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in Grapefruit League play, the Nationals determined he needed more seasoning in the minors.
Mar 5 2017Gott walked one and struck out one in a shutout inning during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He has yet to give up a run in three innings so far this spring, but the Joe Blanton signing might have ended any realistic shot Gott had of breaking camp on the 25-man roster. Look for him to head back to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the regular season, and get the call if and when injuries hit the Nats' middle relief corps.
Feb 2 2017Gott will head into spring training competing for a bullpen spot with the Nationals. He spent most of last season at Triple-A after coming over from the Angels, posting a lackluster 4.35 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB in 39.1 innings for Syracuse, but Gott was a little sharper in six big league frames. The Nats have a lot of arms competing for just a couple of openings in their 'pen this spring, but Gott's lively fastball gives him a strong chance of emerging with a 25-man roster spot.
Sep 2 2016Gott was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. He has yet to pitch in a game with the big club this season after making 48 appearances out of the Washington bullpen in 2015. The results this season with Syracuse have been less than stellar, with Gott posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 33 appearances. Look for manager Dusty Baker to use him mostly in low-leverage spots.
Apr 2 2016Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.Gott was expected to be a middle reliever or setup man for the Nationals this season, but will begin the year at Triple-A Syracuse. In eight spring training appearances, Gott has given up nine hits and three earned runs in 9.0 innings. The 23-year-old was traded from the Angels in December after posting a 3.02 ERA in 47.2 innings of work in the majors last season.
Mar 16 2016Gott took the mound for one inning Wednesday, giving up one walk, earning a hold against the Marlins. The 23-year-old has accumulated four innings of work over the course of spring training, allowing two hits and two earned runs in that span. However, Gott has held opposing batters to a .143 batting average and compiled a 0.75 WHIP over the course of those games. With the amount of offseason moves that occurred within the Nats' bullpen, Gott will have a decent chance to maintain a regular relief role with the team.
Dec 10 2015Gott was included in a trade to the Nationals on Thursday in exchange for veteran Yunel Escobar, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. The 23-year-old Gott had an impressive first season in the majors in 2015, posting a 3.02 ERA and 1.238 WHIP over 47.2 innings of work. He should have a chance to carve out a solid relief role with the Nationals after the club experienced so much turnover and turmoil in the bullpen over the past year.
Sep 27 2015Gott is the leading candidate to head the Angels' closing committee for the remainder of the season, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. The Angels, who find themselves a half game behind the Astros in the AL wild-card race, will now have to make do without their closer, as Huston Street suffered what appeared to be a serious groin injury after he needed to be helped off the field in the ninth inning of Sunday's contest. Though Mike Scioscia mentioned that the Angels would likely go with a committee approach to the ninth inning, Gott should rank as the team's top option after emerging as a key setup man for Street in recent weeks. The 23-year-old has posted a 3.07 ERA across 44 innings with the big club this season, although it has come with a rather middling 25:15 K:BB ratio. Along with Gott, look for Fernando Salas and Mike Morin to fill vital roles at the back end of the Angels bullpen.
Aug 9 2015Gott notched his second win of the season, pitching two scoreless innings in Sunday's victory over the Orioles.Since being called up from Triple-A, Gott has been excellent, holding a 1.85 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in 24.1 innings. While he doesn't miss many bats, striking out 12 in that span, he gets plenty of ground ball outs and efficiently works through innings.
Jun 13 2015Gott will be called up by the Angels from Triple-A Salt Lake, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.Gott has had an excellent 2015 season in the minors, first getting a promotion to Salt Lake thanks to a 3.20 ERA in Double-A Arkansas and then not allowing a run in 8.1 Triple-A innings. He isn't likely to take over an impact role this season, but at just 22, he could be a promising relief prospect going forward.
