Jul 20 2023The Cardinals designated Tepera for assignment Thursday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Just three days after signing a one-year deal with the Cardinals, Tepera will now be cast off the 40-man roster and sent through waivers. Tepera allowed two runs across two innings with the club, and he holds a 7.59 ERA and 2.06 WHIP on the season.
Jul 17 2023Tepera signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was released by the Angels last month after holding a 7.27 ERA in 10 appearances this season, but he got back on track after inking a minor-league deal with the Rangers, tossing eight scoreless frames with 11 strikeouts. The veteran reliever will fill a middle relief role in St. Louis.
Jun 15 2023Tepera signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was released by the Angels last month after holding a 7.27 ERA and 2.08 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 8.2 innings. The 35-year-old has been plenty viable as a middle reliever prior to 2023, though, and is worth a shot on a minor-league pact.
May 20 2023Tepera cleared unconditional release waivers and elected free agency Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was designated for assignment last Sunday by the Angels and will now look for a new team. The right-hander has struggled to a 7.27 ERA and 2.08 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 8.2 innings in 10 appearances with the Angels in 2023.
May 14 2023The Angels designated Tepera for assignment Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera has struggled throughout the 2023 campaign, and his poor outing against the Guardians on Saturday that saw him allow a pair of solo homers and blow a save ended up being the final straw. Because of Tepera's previous success in the past there could be some interest in his services on the waiver wire, and it seems unlikely that the right-hander would accept an outright assignment to Triple-A if he goes unclaimed/untraded.
May 13 2023Tepera (2-2) blew the save and took the loss in Saturday's 8-6 loss to Cleveland. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera had a nightmare eighth inning, entering the game with a 6-4 lead and one out before immediately giving up a go-ahead three-run homer to Josh Naylor on just his second pitch. Though he managed to bounce back and get David Fry to go down swinging, Tepera was taken yard once again, this time by Andres Gimenez. After a brief stint on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder issue, Tepera had racked up seven strikeouts over 4.0 scoreless innings in his last three appearances but was unable to carry the success into Saturday's contest. The outing marked his second blown save of the season and hiked his ERA up to 7.27.
May 2 2023Tepera was activated from the 15-day injured list by the Angels on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera missed the last couple weeks of action with right shoulder inflammation. The veteran reliever was struggling before getting hurt but should return to high-leverage spots in the Angels' bullpen.
Apr 28 2023Tepera (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Inland Empire on Friday, Steve Wendt of 66ers Radio reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera is slated for one inning of work in what will be his first game action since he went down with right shoulder inflammation in mid-April. It's not clear how many additional, if any, rehab appearances he'll need before activation, but he's eligible to return Monday.
Mar 25 2023Angels manager Phil Nevin suggested Saturday that the team's choice of closer early in the season will depend on "what the game dictates," Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Carlos Estevez was reportedly the frontrunner for the ninth-inning role at the beginning of camp, but the veteran has struggled this spring. While Nevin didn't indicate that Estevez has fallen out of favor -- in fact, the manager emphasized that he expects Estevez to "get some big outs late in the game most of the year" -- the door was left open for others to perhaps get a crack at closing as well. Jimmy Herget and Tepera would be the most likely options if that scenario plays out, per Fletcher.
Oct 4 2022Tepera (5-4) allowed a run on a hit and two walks with one strikeout in 1.1 innings, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Athletics on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera did fine in the ninth inning, but he loaded the bases and then walked Shea Langeliers to end the contest. That also ended a 4.2-innings scoreless streak for Tepera, who has worked as part of a closer committee down the stretch. The righty reliever has a 3.77 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47:20 K:BB with six saves, five blown saves and 17 holds in 57.1 innings this season.
Oct 1 2022Tepera struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jimmy Herget had closed out three of the last four games, so Tepera was a fresher option for the ninth inning. He got the job done on 11 pitches (seven strikes). Tepera's scoreless streak is up to 4.2 innings over his last six appearances, and he's added seven strikeouts without walking a batter in that span. He's got six saves and 17 holds in 58 appearances while posting a 3.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB through 56 innings this season. Tepera should continue to be in the high-leverage mix to close out the campaign.
Sep 29 2022Tepera picked up the save in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Athletics. He did not allow an earned run to score in one-third of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered the game up 4-1 with two outs and two runners on in the ninth inning. He allowed one of the inherited runners to score a wild pitch but got Stephen Vogt to line out to right field to end the game and earn his fifth save. Manager Phil Nevin has turned to Tepera more often recently in high leverage situations, and he has delivered with three saves, a hold, three wins and no blown saves over 8.2 innings in 10 September appearances.
Sep 28 2022Tepera (5-3) earned the win in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Athletics, firing a scoreless eighth inning during which he allowed one hit and did not record a strikeout. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered with the game tied 3-3 in the eighth inning and was able to set Oakland down on just nine pitches. Jo Adell proceeded to hit an RBI single in the ninth inning to give the Angels and Tepera the win. Over his last five appearances dating back to Sept. 16, Tepera has recorded two saves, a hold and a win while surrendering just one earned run. He has a 3.79 ERA over 54.2 innings on the campaign.
Sep 24 2022Tepera gave up one hit and no walks in a scoreless ninth inning of work to earn the save in a 4-2 victory over the Twins on Friday. He struck out two. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera recorded three outs on 15 pitches to notch his fourth save of the season. He is part of a closer committee in Los Angeles and now has two saves and two wins with an ERA of 4.50 in September. The veteran right-hander has a WHIP of 1.09 in 53.1 innings this season.
Sep 16 2022Tepera allowed a run on one hit and struck out one in one inning to earn the save in Friday's 8-7 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera yielded a one-out solo shot to Carlos Santana in the ninth inning but still managed to get the job done after that. The right-handed reliever has had a shaky September, allowing four runs (three earned) over five innings across five appearances. The save was his third of the season and his first opportunity since a blown save Aug. 24 versus the Rays. Tepera has a 4.03 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 51.1 innings while adding 16 holds and a 4-3 record, so he's still seeing his fair share of high-leverage chances despite middling results. Regular closer Jimmy Herget earned a hold with a scoreless eighth inning, facing the top of the Mariners' order.
Sep 7 2022Tepera (4-2) earned the extra-inning win over Detroit on Tuesday, pitching two frames and allowing an unearned run on two hits while notching two strikeouts. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered in the ninth inning with the score tied 3-3 and kept the game tied. He remained in the contest for the 10th and allowed the automatic runner to score with two outs, but the Angels stormed back for two runs in the bottom of the frame to get Tepera the win. The veteran reliever has posted a 1.35 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over 13.1 innings while picking up three wins, a save and a hold across 12 contests since July 27.
Aug 29 2022Tepera (personal) was reinstated from the restricted list Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera is unvaccinated, so he was unavailable for the Angels' series in Toronto over the weekend. However, he'll rejoin the team ahead of Monday's series opener against the Yankees. Over his last seven appearances, he's posted a 1.29 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in seven innings.
Aug 26 2022Tepera was placed on the restricted list Friday ahead of the Angels' three-game series in Toronto, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The timing indicates that Tepera has made himself ineligible to cross the border into Canada by declining to get vaccinated against COVID-19. He'll presumably remain on the restricted list until the Angels return stateside to host the Yankees on Monday. Jose Quijada and Jimmy Herget line up as potential closer candidates should the Angels generate a save opportunity in Toronto.
Aug 24 2022Tepera blew the save in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Rays. He allowed one run on one hit without allowing a walk or a strikeout over one inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Interim manager Phil Nevin turned to Tepera in the eighth inning with the Angels up 1-0 and the top of the Rays lineup due up. Tepera allowed a run to score after a leadoff single by Yandi Diaz, stolen base by pinch runner Jose Siri and a couple of groundouts. While the 34-year-old has now blown five saves, this was his first since June 7, and he should still be firmly in the mix for save opportunities, although they may be few and far between for a struggling Angels team.
Aug 13 2022Tepera (2-2) earned the extra-innings win Saturday over the Twins, allowing a walk and striking out one without allowing a hit in a scoreless inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera worked the 11th inning and ended up with the win after Taylor Ward hit a walkoff home run. In his last seven appearances, Tepera has allowed three hits, one walk and one hit batter while striking out four without allowing a run. The closer role is still up for grabs, with Tepera, Jose Quijada, Jimmy Herget and Jesse Chavez all receiving high-leverage chances since Raisel Iglesias was traded to Atlanta last week. Tepera's current scoreless streak bodes well for his chances to keep getting save chances. He's converted two while adding 15 holds and posting a 3.77 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 33:17 K:BB through 43 innings this year.
Aug 8 2022Tepera picked up a save with a perfect ninth inning against the Athletics on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera needed just six pitches to quickly finish off the 1-0 victory. He earned his first save since May 1 and has now converted two of his six chances this season. The veteran righty has turned in five straight scoreless appearances, lowering his season ERA to 3.95 through 41 innings.
Aug 6 2022Tepera was unavailable Friday against the Mariners but interim manager Phil Nevin said Tepera should be available Saturday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Angels won 4-3 in 10 innings, with Jose Quijada pitching the eighth, Jesse Chavez blowing a save in the ninth, and Jimmy Herget getting the save in the 10th inning. The expectation would have been for Tepera to factor somewhere in that mix, but he was unavailable for an unknown reason. He most recently logged a scoreless frame Thursday against Oakland.
Jul 4 2022Tepera (1-2) took the loss against Houston on Sunday, allowing two runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was asked to handle the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied 2-2. The right-hander got two outs on his first three pitches before giving up a single to Jose Altuve. Tepera then served up a game-winning two-run home run to Jeremy Pena. This was Tepera's first appearance since serving a two-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the Mariners on June 26. It was also the first time he has given up multiple runs in an appearance since May 17.
Jul 1 2022Tepera's suspension was reduced to two games and will begin Friday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was one of a large number of players issued suspensions after Sunday's brawl with the Mariners. Tepera was initially suspended three games but remained active while appealing his ban. He'll now miss Friday and Saturday's games against Houston but will return for Sunday's series finale.
Jun 27 2022Tepera has been suspended three games for his actions in Sunday's brawl against the Mariners, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was among seven players to receive discipline for the altercation. He is appealing the decision, so he will be available out of the bullpen until a final ruling is issued.
May 23 2022Tepera earned a hold against Oakland on Sunday, striking out both batters he faced in the eighth inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Starter Patrick Sandoval gave the Angels seven strong innings before beginning to falter in the eighth, and Tepera was brought in with a pair of runners on base and only one out. The righty reliever cooled the threat by striking out Sheldon Neuse and Seth Brown swinging. The hold was Tepera's league-leading 12th of the campaign.
May 10 2022Tepera allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out three batters over 1.1 innings to earn a hold against the Rays on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered in the sixth inning and retired two batters to close out the frame. He started the seventh and struck out the first two hitters he faced but then allowed a single and walk before being pulled. Both baserunners eventually came around to score, and Tepera was charged with his first earned run since his first appearance of the season. The right-hander has been very good on the campaign, posting a 1.88 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB across 14.1 innings. He is tied for second in the majors with eight holds.
May 1 2022Tepera recorded one out to earn a save over the White Sox on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded after Raisel Iglesias faltered. He got Gavin Sheets to ground out and preserve the 6-5 win. Tepera now has one save and six holds with a 1.64 ERA through 11 innings this season.
Apr 26 2022Tepera secured a hold against Cleveland on Monday with a perfect inning. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty reliever served as an eighth-inning bridge to closer Raisel Iglesias and had little trouble in his frame, needing only eight pitches to set the side down in order. Tepera gave up two runs in his first appearance of the campaign but hasn't been scored upon since, yielding only one hit and posting an 8:3 K:BB over his past 7.2 innings.
Apr 8 2022Tepera pitched one inning against Houston on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits. He did not walk or strike out any batters. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander signed a two-year contract with the Angels in mid-March following a standout 2021 campaign during he notched 21 holds and posted a 2.79 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 74:19 K:BB across 61.1 innings between the Cubs and White Sox. Tepera struggled in his first game with Los Angeles, however, giving up solo home runs to Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez after Shohei Ohtani and three relievers had combined to surrender just one run over the contest's first seven innings. Despite the disappointing Opening Day appearance, Tepera figures to be one of the team's top setup men behind Raisel Iglesias this season.
Mar 17 2022Tepera signed a two-year, $14 million contract with the Angels on Thursday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera put together one of the best performances of his career with the Cubs and White Sox in 2021, as he converted two of five save chances with 21 holds while posting a 2.79 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 61.1 innings across 65 relief appearances. Raisel Iglesias will likely begin the season as the Angels' closer, but Tepera should have a chance to carve out a setup role with his new club.
Oct 2 2021Tepera allowed two hits and two walks over a scoreless seventh inning in Friday's 8-1 win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was reinstated from the injured list after missing time due to a laceration on his right index finger. He managed to dance around four baserunners with the help of a double-play ball. Manager Tony La Russa said Tepera will pitch again Sunday before the club makes a determination about his postseason status. Despite the lopsided nature of the contest, the White Sox deployed what looks like a playoff-ready bullpen. Tepera followed Garrett Crochet before giving way to Craig Kimbrel and Liam Hendriks.
Oct 1 2021Tepera (finger) was activated from the injured list Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera has missed three weeks with a finger laceration, but he'll return in time to make a tune-up appearance or two prior to the playoffs. Mike Wright was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the roster.
Sep 28 2021Manager Tony La Russa is hopeful that Tepera (finger) will be able to rejoin the White Sox this weekend, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox were initially optimistic that Tepera could be back during the team's current series against the Reds, but the right-hander will have some additional time to recover. Since the White Sox have already clinched the division, they'll likely exercise caution with Tepera to preserve his health ahead of the postseason.
Sep 21 2021Tepera (finger) hopes to get back on the mound by the end of the week and throw a pair of side sessions before returning to the roster sometime during next week's series against the Reds, which begins Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera has already missed the minimum 10 days while recovering from a cut finger, but it looks as though he's still roughly a week from returning. He's been throwing since Sunday but still has a few more steps in his progression before he's ready for game action.
Sep 20 2021White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Monday that Tepera (finger) threw for a second straight day, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera is apparently still feeling the laceration on his finger when he throws, but the White Sox aren't expected to shut him down as a result. Assuming Tepera's finger gradually improves, he should get back on a mound in the near future, which would leave the door open for the reliever to make a return before the end of the regular season.
Sep 14 2021Tepera (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old will be out until at least Sept. 21 as the move was made retroactive to Sept. 11. Jace Fry was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday to take Tepera's place in the bullpen for the time being.
Aug 21 2021Tepera struck out two in a perfect 11th inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Craig Kimbrel worked the eighth inning and Liam Hendriks the 10th, leaving closing duties to Tepera after the White Sox re-took the lead in the top of the 11th. The right-hander likely won't see many more save chances down the stretch, but he's been effective following a trade from the Cubs, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB in 8.2 innings since coming to the South Side.
Jul 29 2021Tepera was traded from the Cubs to the White Sox in exchange for left-hander Bailey Horn on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was reinstated from the 10-day injured list July 9, and he's struck out nine in 5.2 scoreless innings across his six relief appearances since then. The right-hander has 15 holds along with a 2.91 ERA and 0.78 WHIP this season, and he should serve as a setup man ahead of closer Liam Hendriks.
Jul 9 2021Tepera (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right-hander landed on the injured list June 29 with a strained left calf, and he'll rejoin the active roster after a brief stint on the shelf. Tepera has a 3.35 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB over 37.2 innings with 14 holds this season, and he should return to a high-leverage role for Chicago.
Jul 6 2021Tepera (calf) came out of Monday's live batting practice session feeling well and is expected to be activated from the injured list when eligible Friday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera has been on the injured list with a left calf strain since June 29. The right-hander appears to be on track to spend just the minimum 10-days on the IL as he looks to return when the club opens a series against the Cardinals on Friday. Tepera struggled in three of his four appearances before hitting the shelf, allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks across three innings.
Jun 29 2021The Cubs placed Tepera on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left calf strain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The injury likely explains Tepera's abysmal performance Monday against the Brewers, when he allowed four runs and recorded just two outs. After stringing together 18 consecutive scoreless appearances, the righty has yielded at least one run in three of his last four games. It's unclear how long Tepera will be sidelined by the calf strain.
Jun 26 2021Tepera (0-1) allowed two runs on one hit and a walk in just a third of an inning as he took the loss against the Dodgers on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera entered in the eighth with the score knotted at 2-2 and ended up giving the lead back to the Dodgers after AJ Pollock swatted a two-run homer. The 33-year-old Tepera was taken out after facing the minimum three batters and only managing to record one out. He has now given up at least one run in two of his last three outings after he hadn't allowed a run in 20.1 consecutive innings spanning from May 12-June 20. Tepera owns a 2.43 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 37 innings this year and has solidified his role as a late-game option for manager David Ross.
Jun 21 2021Tepera pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts to record a hold in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Marlins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera keeps rolling along for the Cubs, as he now hasn't allowed an earned run since early May and has a 1.82 ERA for the season to go along with a 0.61 WHIP. His 15 holds are also good for second on the team, behind Andrew Chafin's 17. Tepera has been a pleasant surprise and should remain in a high-leverage role in front of closer Craig Kimbrel.
Jun 6 2021Tepera, who tossed a scoreless inning in Saturday's loss to the Giants, now has a 2.36 ERA and 0.71 WHIP across 26.2 innings this season. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera has been effective out of the bullpen for the Cubs and has worked his way into a high-leverage role in front of closer Craig Kimbrel. The 33-year-old has also continued to strike out batters at a good rate. His K/9 sits at 10.5 which follows the 13.5 figure he registered in 2020. If Tepera keeps generating the whiffs, he should remain an effective reliever for Chicago the rest of the season.
May 27 2021Tepera struck out two in 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save against the Pirates on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Craig Kimbrel had pitched each of the last two days, so Tepera was called on to earn a four-out save in Thursday's matchup. The right-hander has earned 12 holds this year and has posted a 2.66 ERA in 23.2 innings as a setup man. While Tepera's save Thursday was encouraging, Kimbrel has plenty of job security as the Cubs' closer.
Apr 25 2021Tepera had his suspension reduced from three games to two and will begin serving the ban Sunday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera was suspended for throwing behind Brandon Woodruff. He was available while the appeal was pending but will now be out until the second game of the team's series in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Apr 15 2021Tepera was issued a three-game suspension Thursday but is appealing, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera threw behind the legs of Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff on Tuesday and will likely miss several games as a result. However, he'll be available to pitch until his appeal is heard. Tepera has made five relief appearances for the Cubs this year and has posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 4.2 innings.
Feb 26 2021Tepera signed a major-league contract with the Cubs on Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 33-year-old was non-tendered by Cubs in December, but he'll rejoin the team with spring training in its early stages. Tepera worked in middle relief during 2020 and had a 3.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB over 20.2 innings, and he should fill a similar role this season.
Dec 2 2020Tepera was non-tendered by the Cubs on Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He logged a 3.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 20.2 innings, but it seems like the Cubs just didn't want to pay what he would earn in arbitration. Assuming Tepera is healthy, he should generate plenty of interest on the open market.
Jul 26 2020Tepera was recalled from the Cubs' alternate training site in advance of Sunday's game against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brad Wieck was placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain, so the Cubs needed a fresh arm for the bullpen. Tepera could be back and forth between the majors and the alternate training site all season.
Jul 1 2020Tepera will be a part of the Cubs' 60-man player pool this season and will head to Wrigley Field for summer camp. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera had a down 2019 with a 4.98 ERA in 23 games with the Blue Jays, but he looked much sharper in 2018 and 2017. He's now one of 22 pitchers invited to camp at Wrigley Field, and the righty will have to pitch well to earn any type of regular role with the Cubs this season.
Apr 5 2020Tepera could earn one of the Cubs' final bullpen spots when the regular season is able to begin, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: If the Cubs and other MLB teams get to use expanded rosters when the regular season begins, many will likely deepen their bullpens to deal with what figures to be a compacted schedule. Tepera, who entered spring training on the roster bubble, would stand to benefit in this scenario. The righty had a down year in 2019 with a 4.98 ERA, but he posted sub-4.00 ERAs each season between 2015 and 2018, so there is some hope for a bounceback campaign.
Dec 20 2019Tepera signed with the Cubs on Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The righty will make $900,000 if he makes the big-league roster but just $300,000 in the minors. Tepera endured a rough 2019 campaign, posting a 4.98 ERA in 21.2 innings when not battling an elbow injury. The 32-year-old recorded a 3.49 ERA over the previous four seasons, however, so he could certainly find himself handling a lower-leverage role in the Cubs' bullpen if he's able to get back on track this season.
Nov 4 2019Tepera was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera will head to waivers after posting a 4.98 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 14 punchouts over 21.2 innings this season with the Blue Jays.
Sep 17 2019Tepera will serve as the Blue Jays' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tepera hasn't worked more than an inning in any of his 17 appearances this season, so he'll likely just pitch the bottom of the first before his night comes to an end. Trent Thornton is in line to enter the contest behind Tepera and is the Toronto pitcher most likely to factor into any decision.
Sep 1 2019The Blue Jays reinstated Tepera (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.
Aug 30 2019Tepera (elbow) is expected to be activated Sunday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Jul 21 2018Tepera earned the save Saturday against the Orioles by throwing a scoreless ninth inning, striking out a pair of batters.Tepera shut the door easily with a three-run lead and earned his seventh save of the season. His save opportunities are set to dry up soon with Roberto Osuna returning from his suspension Aug. 5, though he should remain in a high-leverage role.
Jul 15 2018Tepera (elbow) was activated off the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.Tepera threw a bullpen session Thursday and was expected to require a short minor-league rehab stint, but will instead make his return to the Blue Jays for the final game of the first half. The 30-year-old has a 2.97 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 39.1 innings with six saves, but it remains unclear if he'll immediately slide back into the closer's role or if manager John Gibbons will ease him back.
Jul 12 2018Tepera (elbow) threw another successful bullpen session Thursday, although he likely won't return until after the All-Star break Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.Tepera will require a short rehab stint prior to coming off the 10-day disabled list. He'll likely appear in a minor-league game sometime over the weekend, and if all goes well, expect Tepera to return to the bullpen as early as July 20 against Baltimore.
Jul 10 2018Tepera (elbow) could return this weekend in Boston, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. He threw about 20 pitches in the bullpen Tuesday and said it felt normal and he was able to really unleash without pain. Davidi simply says the Blue Jays' aim is for Tepera to pitch this weekend in Boston, so that could simply mean a side session, but considering he was able to throw at full intensity, it seems possible we see him in a game. It's unclear if he will be used in a save situation initially after coming off the disabled list.
Jun 30 2018Tepera (elbow) will utilize a rest and treatment recovery plan, and is not scheduled to visit a specialist, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, and says the injury is "more of a recovery thing" where the soreness lingers after outings. It's on the inner part of his elbow, which would typically be concerning, but so far the tests the Blue Jays have administered have come back negative. While it's encouraging that he doesn't yet seem destined for surgery, Tepera is without a timetable to return. Tyler Clippard and Seung Hwan Oh are the favorites to get saves leading up to when Roberto Osuna (suspension) returns on Aug. 5.
Jun 30 2018Tepera was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. This is the first we've heard of an elbow issue for Tepera, who had been leading a closing committee for the Jays. Tyler Clippard, who got the save in Friday's game against the Tigers, now appears to be the leading candidate for saves, while Seung Hwan Oh could also get some chances. Roberto Osuna (suspension) will be activated on Aug. 5, so if Tepera's elbow issue lingers, he may have collected his final save of the season.
Jun 27 2018Tepera recorded only one out in the ninth inning before serving up a walkoff, two-run home run to Alex Bregman in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Astros. The Jays' closer-of-the-moment has now blown saves in two straight appearances after converting six in a row. Tepera hadn't been taken yard since May 6, however, and he still has a 2.19 ERA and 14:2 K:BB through 12.1 innings in June despite Wednesday's slip. With Roberto Osuna (suspension) out until at least August -- assuming the team doesn't just trade him in the meantime -- Tepera likely still has six weeks of save opportunities ahead of him if he can avoid too many stumbles.
Jun 23 2018Tepera struck out two in a perfect ninth inning against the Angels on Saturday en route to his sixth save of the season. The right-hander is now 6-for-6 in save chances since taking over the ninth-inning role in late May. With a 2.63 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB in 37.2 innings this season, Tepera is looking plenty capable of holding onto the job until Roberto Osuna (suspension) returns and perhaps beyond. Osuna will not be eligible to return until Aug. 4.
Jun 20 2018Tepera gave up two hits and struck out one over two-thirds of an inning to collect his fifth save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Braves on Wednesday. It wasn't the cleanest appearance, as Tepera allowed two inherited runners to score before finally slamming the door on Atlanta, but the right-hander is still 5-for-5 in save chances since moving into the closer role for Toronto. With Roberto Osuna (administrative leave) not close to resolving his off-field legal issues, Tepera should remain the top choice in the ninth inning for manager John Gibbons.
Jun 16 2018Tepera gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 6-5 win over the Nationals. He's now converted four straight save chances since being given his opportunity at the closer role in late May, posting a 2.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB in 10.2 innings over eight appearances during that stretch. Tepera isn't going to evolve into a dominant ninth-inning option, but as long as he's getting the job done, the Jays aren't likely to make another change.
Jun 13 2018Tepera (3-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Rays, allowing one run on two hits and one walk across 1.2 innings. He struck out two.Tepera entered the game in the eighth inning with a runner on first base and the game knotted at 1-1 and he proceeded to escape the inning unscathed thanks to a pair of groundouts and a strikeout. The ninth inning didn't go quite as smooth, however, as a double from Mallex Smith followed by a walkoff single from Matt Duffy accounted for the only run of the game and handed the Blue Jays a series sweep. Tepera still owns a respectable 2.94 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB through 33.2 innings this season and should continue to see the bulk of save chances in the continued absence of Roberto Osuna.
Jun 9 2018Tepera gave up a hit in 1.1 scoreless innings to record his third save of the season in Friday's 5-1 win over the Orioles.Entering the game in the eighth inning with two outs and runners on first and third, Tepera got Manny Machado to ground out before taking case of business in the ninth. The 30-year-old hasn't exactly been dominant since getting his shot at closing, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB in eight innings, but he's converted all three of his save chances and Tepera should remain in the role unless he falters.
May 27 2018Tepera worked around a walk in a scoreless inning of work to record his second save of the season Sunday against the Phillies.Staked to a two-run lead, Tepera walked the first man he faced but was able to retire the next three to close out the game. After failing to record a save prior to Friday, Tepera has now done so in back-to-back appearances, albeit in less convincing fashion in his previous outing. Still, he looks to have climbed the pecking order for save opportunities in the continued absence of Roberto Osuna.
May 25 2018Tepera picked up the save against the Phillies on Friday despite giving up a run on two hits, walking two and striking out one in Toronto's 6-5 victory. With Toronto's closer situation currently in flux, Tepera got the nod for ninth-inning duties against Philadelphia, and ended up working himself into a jam after giving up one-out hits to Jorge Alfaro and Pedro Florimon. He then allowed a run on a wild pitch and walked two more hitters before finally buckling down and striking out Rhys Hoskins and inducing a game-ending groundout from Odubel Herrera. He got the job done but it was by no means a smooth performance, so he would likely have to show he can consistently close out games in less dramatic fashion before he'd be officially given the role.
May 10 2018Tepera picked up his third win of the season in Wednesday's victory over Seattle. The 30-year-old right-hander allowed just one walk and struck out one opposing batter over his inning of work, lowering his ERA to 3.06 for the season. Tepera has appeared in 19 of the Blue Jays' 37 games and has carved out a late-inning role with the club, as he's typically utilized in the eighth inning during high-leverage situations by manager John Gibbons. Though his ERA, WHIP of 1.19 and 19:6 K:BB are all healthy totals, be wary of a 5.18 FIP which indicates that he may be due for a little regression in the coming months.
Jan 20 2018Tepera is working on developing a split changeup, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. While Tepera is expected to serve as one of the Blue Jays' top setup men in 2018, the reliever noted that he'd ultimately love to join the team's rotation at some point down the line, which prompted him to add a third offering to his repertoire this offseason. The 30-year-old hasn't started since 2013, when he posted a 4.70 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 20 starts (99.2 innings) with Double-A New Hampshire. He finished the 2017 campaign with a 3.59 ERA and 81:31 K:BB across 77.2 innings of relief.
Sep 9 2017Tepera allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one across one inning to earn his second save Saturday against the Tigers.Tepera was fortunate to come into the game with a three-run lead, as he allowed four runners to reach base before finally closing out the contest. He was able to earn the save while taking over for Roberto Osuna (neck), and will likely return to his set up duties in which he's already recorded 15 holds on the season.
Aug 19 2017Tepera will not be available for Saturday's game at Wrigley Field after being sent home with an illness, Arash Madani of Sportsnet reports.A flu-like bug has been taking down Blue Jays in recent days. Tepera was tabbed the closer Friday after Roberto Osuna was sent back to the hotel with a fever, but the two will reverse roles Saturday as Osuna returns to action. The Jays have off Monday, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Tepera held out Sunday, also, to get extra rest.
Aug 18 2017Tepera will fill in as closer with Roberto Osuna (illness) unavailable, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.Osuna is dealing with the flu and may need an additional day this weekend to recover. Tepera, meanwhile, may add another closing opportunity to his secretly solid numbers (3.23 ERA, 9.4 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 in 61.1 innings). Daily transaction fantasy players trying to gather as many saves as possible could give him a brief look.
Aug 8 2017Tepera allowed one run and walked one over 1.1 innings Tuesday against the Yankees to pick up his 12th hold of the season.Through a career-high 50 games, the right-hander owns a solid 3.45 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Tepera was used in low-leverage situation through his first two MLB campaigns, but circumstances have thrust him into a setup role this year. His 12 holds fall one shy of the team lead held by Joe Smith.
Jul 13 2017Tepera notched four wins, seven holds and picked up a save while striking out 49 over 39 games prior to the break. The 29-year-old has excelled in his third season, and has unexpectedly locked down the team's setup role at the halfway point. With Jason Grilli now gone, Tepera should approach 20 holds by the end of the season.
Jun 21 2017Tepera will help fill in as the team's setup man while Joe Smith is sidelined with a shoulder injury, Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun reports.Manager John Gibbons plans to use Tepera and Danny Barnes to fill the eighth-inning void. Through 30 games, the righty sports a career-best 2.70 ERA while posting a fancy 0.98 WHIP. With his new role, Tepera becomes an interesting add in leagues that value holds.
Jun 7 2017Tepera walked one over a scoreless inning Tuesday in Oakland, lowering his ERA to 3.03 through 26 games. The right-hander continues to excel in a useful role out of the team's bullpen. Tepera's .182 BAA is the best such mark for a Toronto pitcher this season. With Joe Biagini currently taking on a starter's role, Tepera has seen increased involvement in higher-leverage situations.
May 14 2017Tepera (3-1) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner and striking out two batters to collect his third win of the season Sunday against Seattle. The 29-year-old righty has now strung together 12.2 scoreless innings with 15 strikeouts. Considering his current solid run, it wouldn't be surprising to see Tepera begin to pitch more frequently in high-leverage situations going forward.
Apr 26 2017Tepera gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless 11th inning to pick up his first save of the season in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Cardinals.Roberto Osuna blew the save in the ninth and Jason Grilli worked the 10th, leaving Tepera to record his second career big-league save when the Jays pushed a run across in the 11th. He did save 18 games for Triple-A Buffalo last season, but it would take an improbable set of circumstances for the 29-year-old righty to start seeing regular ninth-inning duty for Toronto.
Apr 17 2017Tepera allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while recording just one out in Sunday's disastrous 11-4 loss to the Orioles. The right-hander entered Sunday's contest with five solid innings under his belt (1.80 ERA and 0.60 WHIP through five innings). That all changed when Tepera was jumped by the O's in an appearance that included a three-run homer and a wild pitch. Although the poor outing ruined his early-season numbers -- he now owns an 8.44 ERA and 1.31 WHIP -- Tepera's job is not currently in jeopardy, so he'll continue to be deployed routinely.
Apr 2 2017Tepera secured a spot on the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports. With Roberto Osuna (back) unexpectedly landing on the DL to begin the season, the Blue Jays weren't forced to make many tough cuts, allowing Tepera to claim a roster spot after a strong spring. Osuna isn't expected to be out much longer than the 10-day minimum, however, so Tepera may need to pitch well in his limited opportunities out of the bullpen early on if he hopes to stay with the Blue Jays on more than a short-term basis.
Mar 27 2017Tepera is one of three remaining relievers vying for the team's final two bullpen spots, Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star reports. After finishing his fourth straight scoreless outing Friday against the Yankees, the right-hander lowered his spring ERA to an impressive 2.16. Tepera has allowed an earned run in just one of his eight Grapefruit League games. Despite the solid audition, the 29-year-old still may find himself in the minors on Opening Day, largely because Tepera has options remaining. Mike Bolsinger is out of minor-league options which should help him get the nod. That leaves Tepera and Aaron Loup to duke it out down the stretch. "We're still up in the air there. It's going to go down to the wire," manager John Gibbons said about the bullpen choices. A pair of upcoming weekend exhibition games against the Pirates in Montreal will be the deciding factor.
Mar 1 2017Tepera pitched a scoreless inning, allowing three hits and picking up a strikeout in Monday's exhibition game against the Pirates.Tepera allowed three singles, but mixed in a double-play before striking out Pirates star Gregory Polanco on three pitches. The right-hander has appeared in 52 games for the Jays over the past two seasons while holding opponents to a .208 BAA en route to a 3.16 ERA over 51.1 innings. A starter at the beginning of his professional career, Tepera has been a full-time reliever in the majors and minors since 2014. He's competing for an Opening Day bullpen job.
Feb 1 2017Tepera will likely spend another season bouncing between the majors and Triple-A Buffalo, MLB.com reports.Over the past two seasons, Tepera has pitched in 52 big league games and 58 minor league contests. The 29-year-old right-hander has done well at both levels which will earn him a fair chance to compete for a job this spring. If Tepera can somehow manage to stay on the major league roster all season, he could hold some value in the deepest of leagues.
Sep 26 2016Tepera has managed a respectable 3.86 ERA over nine outings -- seven of which were scoreless appearances -- this month since being recalled as part of roster expansions.Although Tepera's ERA doesn't appear to be a problem, his 1.57 WHIP might explain why he isn't used in high-leverage situations. The 28-year-old right-hander was actually more successful in his previous stays with the team this season, posting six consecutive scoreless appearances over seven innings from June 1 to Aug. 16.
Sep 12 2016Tepera pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out two Red Sox on Sunday. It was a nice rebound for Tepera, who allowed two runs on four hits and a walk just two day's earlier. Since being recalled at the beginning of September, the 28-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs on six hits over 3.2 innings (four appearances). The only bright spot to Tepera's work this month has been the five strikeouts he's notched.
Sep 2 2016Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Shi Davidi of SportsNet reports.Tepera's time with Toronto was limited this season, as he threw just 9.1 innings across nine games. However, he allowed just three runs in that time, giving him a 2.89 ERA in the majors. He was fantastic with Buffalo and put up a 2.58 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 37 games (45.1 innings).
Aug 10 2016Tepera was recalled by the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.Tepera represents the corresponding move for the Blue Jays after the club optioned Danny Barnes following Tuesday's contest. The 28-year-old Tepera tossed a pair of scoreless frames over two appearances at Triple-A Buffalo after he was sent down on Jul. 26. He hasn't pitched since Jul. 31, so he should provide a fresh arm out of the pen for Toronto.
Jul 26 2016Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Mike Wilner of Blue Jays Radio reports.Tepera will be headed back to Buffalo in order to make room for the newly-acquired Melvin Upton. He'd been recalled on July 24 and didn't have the chance to pitch in any games for the Blue Jays in that brief span. Tepera has posted a 2.95 ERA over 36.2 innings of action at the Triple-A level this season.
Jul 24 2016Tepera was recalled Sunday from Triple-A Buffalo, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.Tepera had been serving as the closer for Buffalo, amassing a 2.95 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 37 strikeouts over 36.2 innings on the season. He previously made five appearances with the big club earlier in the year, but wasn't able to establish himself as a dependable setup man.The Blue Jays will likely try to limit Tepera's use to low-leverage situations until his performance warrants an enhanced role.
Jun 26 2016Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.Tepera struggled in his earlier stint with the Blue Jays allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings with the club. His Triple-A numbers tell a different tale, however, so the 28-year-old reliever will get another shot at the big league bullpen, knocking southpaw Chad Girodo back down to Buffalo.
Jun 5 2016Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. The Blue Jays recalled third baseman Matt Dominguez from Buffalo in a corresponding move to add depth to the infield while Josh Donaldson remains limited by a thumb injury. Tepera saw light usage with the Blue Jays upon being recalled from the minors last Monday, making just one appearance during his five-game stint with the club.
May 30 2016Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.Tepera will be called up to provide bullpen depth, taking the roster spot of Jimmy Paredes, who was designated for assignment Monday in a corresponding move. Through 17.2 innings in the minors this season, the right-hander owns a 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.
May 11 2016Tepera (0-1) took the loss to the Giants Wednesday by recording two walks, a hit batter, and a wild pitch in the 13th inning. It was a miserable outing for the reliever. After hitting Brandon Belt, the first batter he faced, he threw a wild pitch and eventually walked Buster Posey with the bases loaded to end the game. Tepera -- who was just recalled from Triple-A Buffalo Monday -- won't do himself any favors with a performance like this.
May 11 2016Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. After walking home the winning run in Wednesday's game against the Giants in addition to the impending activation of Brett Cecil off the paternity list, the Blue Jays saw enough to send Tepera back to the minors. He'll slot back into the Bisons bullpen, although he'll have to improve his command and his 7.27 minor league ERA if he wants another shot with Toronto.
May 9 2016The Blue Jays recalled Tepera from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.Tepera was just optioned to Buffalo last week, but he will rejoin the big club with Brett Cecil landing on the paternity list. Tepera will resume pitching in middle relief for the Blue Jays.
May 6 2016Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.Tepera is still waiting to be awarded a consistent spot in Toronto's bullpen, but instead he's bounced back and fourth with Buffalo over the past two seasons. Although, his 2.0 innings of work for the Blue Jays resulted in two earned runs over two outings this season, so there's still room for obvious improvement. Andy Burns' contract was selected in a related move Friday.
Apr 27 2016Tepera was recalled by the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. The Blue Jays swapped finesse for power in a pair of bullpen moves Wednesday, optioning Pat Venditte down to Triple-A Buffalo and recalling the hard-throwing Tepera. Over eight appearances at Triple-A Buffalo this season, Tepera has struggled a bit, allowing seven earned runs over 8.2 innings pitched. That said, Tepera does bring a mid-90s fastball that will be a welcome addition to the Toronto bullpen.
Mar 30 2016Tepera will open the season in the Blue Jays' bullpen, the Toronto Star reports.Tepera certainly earned his way onto the roster: he posted a 1.42 ERA and 0.79 WHIP this spring after finishing 2015 with a 3.27 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 32 games with the Blue Jays. Despite throwing right-handed, he is more effective against lefties than righties, and will open as the Blue Jays' No. 2 option against left-handers behind Brett Cecil.
Oct 10 2015The Blue Jays added Tepera to their ALDS roster Saturday, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.Tepera will take the roster spot of Brett Cecil, who will miss the remainder of the postseason with a calf injury. Expect Tepera to serve as a middle relief option for the Blue Jays.
Sep 1 2015The Blue Jays recalled Tepera from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.Tepera will provide the Blue Jays with another quality bullpen arm -- the right-hander posted a 1.06 ERA in 21 appearances with Buffalo and a 2.28 ERA in 21 outings with the big club earlier this year. He will join the Blue Jays' middle relief corps.
Aug 1 2015Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet Blue Jays reports.Tepera looked strong in his second stint with Toronto, allowing only two runs in 10.2 innings and allowing a .540 OPS to his opponents. Don't expect the 27-year-old rookie to be gone for too long, as quality depth arms can frequently rotate between levels.
Jul 3 2015Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, SportsNet's Shi Davidi reports.Tepera was called up along with Felix Doubront, who is a candidate to start against the White Sox on Tuesday. Although he hasn't seen much work in key situations, Tepera has impressed by posting a 2.77 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB ratio over 13 innings this season. He isn't an especially promising prospect, but his recent performance at the big-league and Triple-A levels suggests he could be a solid middle reliever.
Jun 21 2015Tepera was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo following Sunday's game against the Orioles.Tepera was one of three pitchers losing a spot on the 25-man roster following Sunday's contest, though he wasn't horrible in the outing. He allowed one hit and struck out one in just one-third inning of work Sunday, but the hit allowed a fourth run to score in the top of the 9th inning. No corresponding move has been announced, but Tepera will once again serve as organizational depth.
Jun 9 2015Tepera struck out one in a perfect inning against the Marlins in Monday's victory.Tepera has been used sparingly this season, but is currently in possession of a sparkling 0.72 WHIP, pitching 8.1 innings with six hits allowed and no walks to go along with seven strikeouts. Tepera hasn't been entrusted with pitching in any sort of high leverage situation and has limited fantasy value due to his low innings count and lack of counting stats.
May 11 2015Tepera made his first career MLB appearance, pitching two perfect innings with a strikeout.Pitching the seventh and eighth innings, Tepera opened his MLB career by facing Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez, getting all three out in order. He had good numbers in Triple-A and with how much the Jays bullpen is in flux, he could see some higher leverage situations; however, he has limited fantasy value due to the revolving door nature of their bullpen and his lack of counting stats.
May 8 2015Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, SportsNet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports. The 27-year-old righty will slot into the Jays' bullpen, bringing adequate stuff and command that has been much better this year than in past seasons in the minors. He had a 0.57 ERA and a 17:5 K:BB ratio in 15.2 innings at Buffalo. Chad Jenkins was sent down as the corresponding move.
Nov 20 2014Tepera was added to the 40-man roster on Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. In doing so, Tepera will be protected from being eligible for the Rule 5 draft. The 27-year-old, a 19th-round pick in 2009, spent last season at Triple-A Buffalo, going 7-3 with a 3.66 ERA in 64.0 innings. Tepera allowed just four home runs while striking out 67 batters and walking 24.
