Jun 4 2023The White Sox requested unconditional release waivers for Alberto on Sunday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old was designated for assignment by Chicago on Friday and won't be sticking around the organization. Alberto joined the club on a one-year deal in January and had a .220/.261/.390 slash line in 90 plate appearances.
Jun 2 2023Alberto was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto played a decent amount with the White Sox' infield banged up, but he missed some time with injury himself and has produced just a .652 OPS. The veteran infielder will now go through the waiver process and it's possible there will be some interest from a club in need of some defensive versatility.
May 28 2023Alberto will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he appears to be healthy again after recently overcoming a shoulder injury, Alberto may no longer be viewed as the primary replacement at second base for the injured Elvis Andrus (oblique). After sitting out Saturday's 7-3 loss, Alberto will pick up a start at the hot corner Sunday for a resting Yoan Moncada while Romy Gonzalez nabs another start at the keystone.
May 26 2023Alberto (shoulder) is starting at second base and batting ninth Friday versus the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto will be back in the lineup for the first time since Sunday after he's been nursing some left shoulder soreness. The 30-year-old has gone 3-for-26 with a run scored, two walks and six strikeouts over his last 10 contests.
May 24 2023Alberto (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto will be on the bench for a third straight contest after he exited Sunday's 5-2 win over the Royals with a sore left shoulder. Romy Gonzalez will step in at the keystone in place of Alberto, who had been serving as the White Sox's primary option at the position while Elvis Andrus (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list.
May 22 2023Alberto (shoulder) is not in the White Sox' lineup for Monday's game in Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto had to exit Sunday's game versus the Royals with left shoulder soreness, although it's not clear whether his absence from Monday's lineup is related to that. Romy Gonzalez will handle second base.
May 21 2023Alberto was removed from Sunday's game against the Royals with left shoulder soreness. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto appeared to suffer the injury while running out a sacrifice bunt during the fifth inning of Sunday's contest. The 30-year-old has been seeing regular action at second base over the past week with Elvis Andrus (oblique) on the injured list.
May 14 2023Alberto will start at second base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Astros, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto's run as a regular at third base came to an end Friday when Yoan Moncada returned from the injured list, but the 30-year-old utility man now appears set for steady playing time at the keystone after Elvis Andrus (oblique) went on the IL on Saturday. Alberto will make his second straight start at second base after going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in Saturday's 3-1 win.
May 7 2023Alberto went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Sunday's victory over the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto led the charge in Sunday's 17-run explosion by the White Sox. He kicked things off with a two-run shot in the second inning followed by a pair of RBI doubles later in the game. His season OPS jumped from .600 to .903 through 40 plate appearances with the huge performance. Yoan Moncada (back) appears to be nearing a return, which will cut into Alberto's playing time.
May 6 2023Alberto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Saturday against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto took Nick Lodolo yard in the second inning to tally his second homer of the season. With both Yoan Moncada (back) and Jake Burger (oblique) out, Alberto should have a regular role at third base in the short term. He isn't likely to make a significant fantasy impact, as he has never posted a wRC+ above 100 in any of his big-league seasons.
May 2 2023Alberto (quadriceps) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto missed two weeks of action while nursing a left quad strain. The 30-year-old utility infielder returns Tuesday to a .211 batting average and .579 OPS in 19 plate appearances this season.
Apr 30 2023Manager Pedro Grifol said Alberto (quadriceps) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, and he'll quickly rejoin the big-league club this week. The 30-year-old should fill an infield utility role once activated.
Apr 27 2023Alberto (quad) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He figures to remain with Charlotte all weekend before rejoining the White Sox early next week if all goes well. Alberto is coming back from a strained quad.
Apr 6 2023Alberto is starting at third base and batting fifth for the White Sox on Thursday versus the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The White Sox are resting a handful of regulars, providing Alberto with a rare chance to hit in the middle of the batting order. He's 1-for-4 at the dish so far this season.
Mar 30 2023The White Sox selected Alberto's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto essentially won a spot over Leury Garcia, who has been released. He'll operate in a utility role for the Pale Hose.
Jan 11 2023Alberto agreed Wednesday with the White Sox on a minor-league contract, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 30-year-old will likely get the chance to compete for a utility role with the White Sox during spring training. He appeared in 73 games for the Dodgers in 2022, seeing action at all four infield spots while hitting .244 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 13 runs over 159 plate appearances.
Nov 8 2022The Dodgers declined Alberto's $2 million club option for 2023, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto saw limited opportunities to take the field in 2022 behind the Dodgers' star-studded infield, and he only put up a .623 OPS during the opportunities he did receive. The 30-year-old infielder will likely serve as a bench option in 2023 for the team that signs him in free agency.
Aug 3 2022Alberto will return to the bench for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As per usual, the righty-hitting Alberto is on the bench with the Giants bringing a right-hander (Alex Cobb) to the hill. Alberto, who went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 9-5 win against the Giants and southpaw Alex Wood, should continue to make frequent starts when the Dodgers oppose lefties.
Jul 4 2022Alberto (knee) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto was sidelined by a knee injury Sunday, but he was able to return earlier than initially expected. He's appeared in only 12 games since the start of June, going 4-for-24 (.167) in that span, so he's not expected to be a lineup regular. He could see some starts at second base and third base against southpaws.
Jul 3 2022Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Alberto is available off the bench for Sunday's game against the Padres in a pinch-hitting capacity due to a knee issue, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the hill for San Diego, the righty-hitting Alberto would have been a candidate to pick up a start, but the knee issue thwarted those plans. Roberts relayed that Alberto has responded well since receiving a pain-killing injection to address the soreness in the knee, so the 29-year-old doesn't look as though he'll be in danger of landing on the injured list.
Jun 29 2022Alberto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 7-4 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto went deep off Kyle Freeland in the second inning to pick up his second home run and fifth RBI of the season. The bench player got a start at second base with Cody Bellinger out of the lineup for a breather. Alberto is slashing .233/.243/.356 on the season.
Jun 25 2022Alberto (personal) was activated from the paternity list Saturday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto will rejoin the active roster after he spent three days away from the team following the birth of his child. The 29-year-old typically plays against left-handed pitchers and has hit .242 with a homer, seven runs and four RBI over 34 games this season.
Jun 22 2022The Dodgers will place Alberto on the paternity list Wednesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto, who typically plays against left-handed pitching, will be away from the team for up to three days. Eddy Alvarez, Stefen Romero and Trayce Thompson are candidates to get extra work in the short term.
May 30 2022Alberto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Batting out of the No. 9 slot, Alberto was one of two Dodgers to collect multiple hits in the contest. He produced the team's first run when he took Zach Thompson deep to left field in the fifth inning. The homer was Alberto's first of the season and 18th as a major-leaguer across 1,218 career at-bats.
May 17 2022Alberto will start at second base and bat ninth in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He'll crack the lineup for only the ninth time all season, with all of his starts coming out of the No. 7 spot in the batting order or lower. Alberto should retreat to his normal bench role for the nightcap Tuesday, when Gavin Lux is expected to re-enter the starting nine after sitting out the matinee affair.
Apr 17 2022Manager Dave Roberts said he expects to include Alberto in the starting lineup Tuesday against Atlanta, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Dodgers are facing a lefty (Max Fried) on Tuesday, and Roberts feels Alberto and his 113 wRC+ career mark versus southpaws will allow the lineup to remain strong while one of Los Angeles' everyday players -- presumably the lefty-hitting Gavin Lux -- gets a day off. Through Los Angeles' first nine games, Alberto has appeared in only three contests while logging five at-bats in total.
Mar 20 2022Alberto has yet to report for Dodgers' spring training due to visa issues, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto inked a one-year deal with the Dodgers last week, but travel issues have prevented him from joining the team. The 29-year-old hit .270/.291/.402 with two home runs, 25 runs and 24 RBI in 103 games for Kansas City last year and should work as a utility infielder with Los Angeles.
Mar 13 2022Alberto agreed Sunday with the Dodgers on a one-year contract, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Alberto's contract is an MLB deal, so he'll be added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster and therefore should be in good position to make the Opening Day club as a reserve infielder. While receiving 1,036 plate appearances between stops with the Orioles and Royals over the past three seasons, Alberto's high-contact approach has yielded a .292 batting average, but a lack of power and speed along with his presence in relatively weak lineups hasn't made him an especially interesting fantasy commodity. He'll get an upgrade in team context with the move to Los Angeles, but unless the Dodgers' position depth is severely tested in 2022, Alberto may not play enough to warrant intrigue even in NL-only leagues.
Oct 29 2021Alberto cleared outright waivers and was released by the Royals on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto appeared in 103 games for Kansas City in 2021 and posted a .693 OPS in 255 plate appearances, and the team didn't want to carry him on the 40-man roster further into the offseason. The 29-year-old may need to settle for a minor-league deal over the next couple month and attempt to make a big-league roster during spring training.
Sep 19 2021Alberto went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's 8-1 win over Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder has hit safely in seven of his nine games in September, going 9-for-25 (.360) in that span. Alberto has a solid .269/.291/.396 slash line with two home runs, three steals, 22 RBI and 24 runs scored across 241 plate appearances. He's started three of the four previous games, but he's not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Mariners.
Sep 6 2021Alberto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 3-2 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His fifth-inning blast off Zac Lowther got the Royals on the board. Alberto only has two homers on the year, with the last coming July 2, and he's started only four of the last 13 games -- a playing time squeeze that likely won't get any better for the 28-year-old now that Adalberto Mondesi is seeing action at third base.
Sep 2 2021Alberto went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 extra-innings loss to Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Playing time remains scarce for Alberto, and he's done nothing to earn more by going 5-for-23 (.217) across his last 10 games. The veteran infielder has a .259/.274/.376 slash line with one home run, 19 RBI, 22 runs scored and two stolen bases through 216 plate appearances. He figures to drop further on the depth chart given the recent return of Adalberto Mondesi. With Emmanuel Rivera also in the mix at the hot corner while Whit Merrifield and Nicky Lopez control the middle infield, Alberto figures to serve as a bench option for much of September.
Aug 14 2021Alberto went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 loss to St. Louis. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder got a start at second base with Whit Merrifield in right field for Saturday's contest. Alberto recorded his second multi-hit effort in his last six games, a span in which he's gone 7-for-16 (.438). The 28-year-old continues to fill a utility role for Kansas City, slashing a reasonable .269/.285/.392 with one home run, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, a stolen base and 14 doubles through 197 plate appearances.
Jul 25 2021Alberto went 1-for-1 with a two-RBI triple in Saturday's 9-8 win over Detroit. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old hasn't seen much playing time lately but produced the final runs for Kansas City during its five-run seventh inning. The infielder has a .274/.290/.420 slash line with one home run, three triples, 13 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base through 164 plate appearances. He'll get the start over Nicky Lopez at shortstop Sunday to allow the latter some rest.
Jul 5 2021Alberto went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 6-2 loss to Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The infielder hasn't seen many chances to run, as he's now just 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Alberto has started three of five games in July, but it appears Hunter Dozier will see more of the playing time at third base while Emmanuel Rivera (wrist) is out. In a utility role, Alberto has a .267/.285/.397 slash line with one home run, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, two triples and 12 doubles this season.
Jul 3 2021Alberto went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-4 win over the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: His third-inning blast off J.A. Happ put the Royals in the lead for good. It was Alberto's first long ball of the season, and since the beginning of May he's slashing .284/.304/.409 -- numbers almost identical to his performance last season with the O's.
Jun 24 2021Alberto went 2-for-3 with a double and a hit by pitch in Thursday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto got the start Thursday at third base to spell Kelvin Gutierrez. The multi-hit effort was just the seventh of the year for Alberto. He's slashing .275/.296/.400 with no home runs, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples through 127 plate appearances. With Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) back on the injured list, there may be more at-bats for Alberto to pick up around the infield, but he remains a part-time player.
Jun 9 2021Alberto went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto hasn't seen a lot of playing time lately, but he's been fairly productive when in the lineup. He's gone 7-for-15 (.467) with four doubles, one RBI and four runs scored across his last five games. For the season, the infielder is slashing .276/.280/.408 with eight RBI, 11 runs scored, nine doubles and two triples across 102 plate appearances. With Adalberto Mondesi (hamstring) out, Alberto could see the short side of a platoon with Nicky Lopez at shortstop.
May 19 2021Alberto is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Starts have become less frequent for the 28-year-old, who has continued to post underwhelming offensive numbers. Kelvin Gutierrez, who has gone 4-for-12 with just one strikeout since being called up May 14, gets the start at third base Wednesday.
May 14 2021Alberto will remain on the bench for the afternoon portion of Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto will sit for the third straight game. Hunter Dozier remains the starter at third base, though Alberto could return to the lineup for the nightcap.
May 13 2021Alberto is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After a string of four straight starts, Alberto will now be on the bench for the second day in a row. Ryan O'Hearn will enter the lineup in Alberto's stead, serving as Kansas City's designated hitter while Hunter Dozier shifts back to third base.
May 12 2021Alberto isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto had started each of the last four games and went 3-for-14 with a double, a run and two strikeouts during that time. Hunter Dozier will shift to third base while Jorge Soler plays right field and Ryan O'Hearn serves as the designated hitter.
May 9 2021Alberto will start at third base and bat eighth Sunday against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In the lineup against a right-handed pitcher (Lucas Giolito) and starting for the third consecutive day, Alberto appears to have temporarily captured an everyday role on the left side of the Kansas City infield. The 28-year-old has supplied a meager .213/.226/.344 in 63 plate appearances on the season, so he'll likely need to pick up the pace at the plate to ensure he continues receiving ample work.
Apr 23 2021Alberto is out of the lineup Friday against the Tigers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto finds himself on the bench for the second straight contest against a right-hander with Casey Mize starting for Detroit. Hunter Dozier takes over at third base with Jorge Soler working in right field and Ryan O'Hearn serving as the designated hitter for Kansas City.
Apr 21 2021Alberto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Thanks to the Royals facing a string of left-handed starting pitchers, Alberto had been included in the lineup in each of the last six games. He'll head back to the bench Wednesday with right-hander Michael Wacha on the bump for Tampa Bay, but Alberto at least appears to have locked down a short-side platoon role with Kansas City.
Apr 15 2021Alberto went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto got on base with an infield single and scored on a Nicky Lopez triple in the third inning. In the sixth, Alberto plated Hunter Dozier with an RBI double before scoring on a Cavan Biggio error. Through 21 plate appearances this season, Alberto is slashing .286/.286/.476 with no homers, three RBI, three runs scored and four doubles. He's also 0-for-1 in stolen base attempts. The 28-year-old has been a utility infielder so far in his first season with the Royals.
Apr 7 2021Alberto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto had started each of the Royals' last three games at third base, but he'll head to the bench Wednesday with Hunter Dozier (thumb) cleared to return to the starting five. Unless Nicky Lopez dramatically cools down at the plate while handling an everyday role at shortstop, Alberto looks like he'll be limited to a utility role even with Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) on the shelf.
Apr 3 2021Alberto went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Saturday's 11-4 win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto contributed an RBI double in the fifth inning to plate Kyle Isbel, then came around to score on a fielder's choice by Whit Merrifield. In the sixth, Alberto got aboard with a single and scored on Carlos Santana's double. The 28-year-old Alberto posted a slash line of .283/.306/.393 with three homers, 35 runs scored, 22 RBI and three stolen bases in 54 games with the Orioles last season. He may see a more limited role in 2021, as Hunter Dozier (thumb) and Whit Merrifield are likely to occupy starting roles at third base and second base -- Alberto's two most familiar positions.
Mar 29 2021Alberto's contract was purchased by the Royals on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto was a non-roster invite to spring training, and he was able to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster by hitting .355 with two RBI in 31 at-bats. The 28-year-old will serve in a utility role for Kansas City to begin the 2021 campaign.
Mar 27 2021Alberto could begin the season as the starter at third base, MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto will likely have a utility role, but it's possible Whit Merrifield starts at second base, Hunter Dozier moves to right field and Alberto starts at third base. Alberto is hitting .407 (11-for-27) this spring.
Jan 31 2021Alberto signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Sunday as a non-roster invitee, Hector Gomez of Deportivo Z 101 reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto was non-tendered by Baltimore in November, but he'll compete for a major-league roster spot with the Royals in 2021. The 28-year-old played in 54 games during the abbreviated 2020 season, slashing .283/.306/.393 with three home runs and 22 RBI.
Dec 2 2020Alberto was non-tendered by the Orioles on Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The two sides are apparently still open to negotiating a contract for 2021, but Baltimore will not be paying Alberto what he would have made in arbitration. He played primarily second base last season and hit .283/.306/.393 with three home runs and two steals in 54 games.
Sep 23 2020Alberto is not starting Wednesday against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto hits the bench after starting eight straight games. Pat Valaika will be the second baseman in his absence.
Sep 17 2020Alberto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto got the Orioles on the board in the second part of Thursday's twin bill with a solo blast off Trevor Richards in the second inning. It was his third homer of the season and his first since July. The 27-year-old leads Baltimore with 54 hits and a .287 batting average.
Sep 14 2020Alberto is not in the lineup Monday against Atlanta, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto hits the bench after starting eight straight games at second base. He hit just .194/.194/.194 over that stretch. Andrew Velazquez takes over at the keystone in his absence.
Sep 4 2020Alberto isn't in the lineup for the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto returned from a knee injury during Friday's matinee, but he won't start back-to-back games against the Yankees. Pat Valaika will serve as the second baseman.
Sep 2 2020Alberto (knee) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto isn't believed to be dealing with a serious injury after he jammed his knee while sliding into a base Monday, but he'll sit out for the second game in a row to receive some extra maintenance. Cedric Mullins will replace Alberto atop the lineup while Pat Valaika spells him at second base.
Sep 1 2020Alberto will sit Tuesday against the Mets after jamming his knee on a slide Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The issue doesn't appear to be particularly serious, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Alberto sit Wednesday as well, as Thursday's scheduled off day would give him three straight days to rest. Pat Valaika will be the second baseman Tuesday.
Aug 28 2020Alberto went 4-for-5 with one RBI and one run in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto posted four singles Friday, but his production didn't result in much run production as the team largely struggled to reach base. The 27-year-old now carries a four-game hit streak and while hitting .331 this season.
Aug 23 2020Alberto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto is 5-for-28 over his last seven games and will head to the bench for Sunday's contest. Pat Valaika will shift to the keystone while Andrew Velazquez starts at shortstop in the series finale.
Aug 18 2020Alberto is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Toronto, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto has followed up his .305 batting average last season with a .313 mark through 22 games this year. He'll get a rest Tuesday, with Pat Valaika taking over at second base.
Aug 13 2020Alberto went 1-for-4 with a walk and three strikeouts Wednesday in the Orioles' 5-4 win over the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The stat line might represent Alberto's biggest outlier performance of the season, as he entered play Wednesday with a measly 8.8 percent strikeout rate and an even-more-minuscule 1.5 walk rate. He still managed to deliver a single in the victory, extending his hitting streak to five games. Alberto has thus far shown that the career-best .305 average he posted in 2019 is no fluke, as he'll carry a .342/.368/.548 slash line into Thursday's series finale. He'll bat leadoff in the contest, and he should stick atop the lineup against both right- and left-handed pitching for the foreseeable future.
Jul 31 2020Alberto went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old had a breakout 2019, and Alberto is quickly proving it was no fluke by hitting .440 (11-for-25) through the first six games of this season with two homers, four RBI and six runs scored.
Jul 30 2020Alberto went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto got the offense rolling for the Orioles, launching his home run in the first inning off J.A. Happ. It was Alberto's first long ball of the season. He's shown plenty of ability to get on base early on, collecting eight hits and walking once in his first 22 plate appearances this season.
Jul 25 2020Alberto went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI during Saturday's 7-2 win at Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season as he's 4-for-8 through the first two games. Alberto struggled to maintain a roster spot with the Rangers after making his major-league debut in 2015, but he joined the Orioles prior to 2019 and secured a starting role with a .305/.329/.422 slash line and 12 home runs in 139 games.
Mar 19 2020Alberto has hit .357/.379/.500 with one home run and three RBI over 29 plate appearances this spring. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto had a productive campaign last season and has carried his production into spring training in 2020. After Jonathan Villar was traded during the offseason, Alberto figures to slot in as the primary second baseman for the Orioles this season, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Jan 10 2020Alberto agreed to a one-year, $1.65 million deal with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto found himself in the right spot at the right time, as the Orioles gave him enough playing time (550 plate appearances) to be worth almost two wins in 2019, according to FanGraphs. This was his first of three seasons as an arbitration-eligible player.
Sep 28 2019Alberto is not in Saturday's lineup against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto is hitting .237 with two home runs in 22 games this month. Richie Martin is starting at shortstop, pushing Jonathan Villar over to second base.

Sep 18 2019Alberto is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto has hit .231 with zero extra-base hits over his last nine games. Stevie Wilkerson starts at second base Wednesday.
Sep 16 2019Alberto went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With another two-hit performance in tow, Alberto's batting average sits at .317 for the season. He's just short of qualifying for the batting title at the moment, but if Alberto avoids an injury over the final two weeks of the season and maintains steady playing time, he should finish near the top of the AL leaderboard. Alberto's current average trails only Tim Anderson (.332), DJ LeMahieu (.328) and Michael Brantley (.321) among qualified AL hitters.
Sep 13 2019Alberto will be on the bench Friday against the Tigers, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Alberto is hitting .365 over his last 16 games, bringing his season batting average up to .318, the ninth-highest mark among qualified hitters. His 9.1 percent strikeout rate is the lowest mark among that group. Stevie Wilkerson will get the start at second base Friday.

Aug 31 2019Alberto went 5-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 14-2 rout of the Royals.

Aug 1 2019Alberto (lower leg) went 2-for-2 with one run before exiting in the eighth inning of Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Jun 10 2018The Rangers recalled Alberto from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. With the ability to play all four infield spots, Alberto will provide the Rangers with some versatility off the bench while he's up with the big club. Given his meager track record as a hitter in both the majors and minors, however, it's unlikely that he'll be in store for meaningful at-bats during his stint in Texas.
Jun 2 2018The Rangers optioned Alberto to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports.Alberto played in only three games since having his contract purchased by the Rangers, going 1-for-8 with a walk and a strikeout. The 25-year-old returns to Triple-A Round Rock where he has a .281/.308/.383 slash line in 128 at-bats.
May 21 2018Alberto started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox.Alberto was added to the Rangers roster last week but had not played since his contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock. He gave Isiah Kiner-Falefa an off day Sunday, the final game of a nine-game road trip, and is expected to return to the bench Monday when the Rangers host the Yankees.
May 15 2018Alberto had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.Alberto will join the Rangers to offer additional infield depth in the absence of Adrian Beltre (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old was hitting .281/.308/.383 across 37 games with Round Rock prior to being promoted.
Mar 16 2018Alberto (hamstring) is 2-for-8 with a double and two RBI since returning from injury on March 7.Alberto was removed from a Cactus League game in late February due to hamstring tightness, but he wound up missing a bit over a week due to the ailment. Even at full health, he seems like a long-shot to break camp with the major-league squad.
Feb 24 2018Alberto exited Saturday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers with left hamstring tightness. This is a tough break for Alberto, who was finally back to full health after missing the entire 2017 season with shoulder issues. The severity of the issue should clear up after he's further evaluated, but depending on how long he's sidelined, it could all but end his chances at winning a utility role during spring training.
Feb 24 2018Alberto (shoulder) is batting ninth and playing second base for Saturday's Cactus League game, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Alberto is fully operational heading into spring games after missing most of the 2017 campaign with shoulder issues. He will battle to win a utility role with the big-league squad but is a likely candidate to begin the season back at the Triple-A level, where he's spent a majority of the past three years.
Dec 14 2017Alberto (shoulder) signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training.Alberto was limited to just 21 total plate appearances at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2017, as nagging shoulder soreness eventually shut him down and led to surgery. The organization declined to tender his contract back on Dec. 1, but still has enough confidence in the middle infielder to give him an opportunity during spring training. He's a career .194 hitter though 76 games at the major league level, but offers plus defense and is just 25 years old, so there's plenty of potential to carve out a role whether it be with Texas or elsewhere.
Dec 1 2017The Rangers declined to tender Alberto (shoulder) a contract for 2018.Shoulder issues derailed Alberto's 2017 season, and surgery was ultimately deemed necessary to repair rotator cuff debridement. The 25-year-old hasn't hit much at any level, posting a .696 OPS in eight minor-league seasons. Defensive versatility is his calling card.
Nov 6 2017Alberto (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day DL on Monday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto missed all of 2017 with a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery in June. He should be ready to go for the start of spring training, where he'll look to break camp as a utility infielder.
Jun 20 2017Alberto underwent shoulder surgery Monday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports.Alberto has been on the disabled list all season and will now miss the remainder of the 2017 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair rotator cuff debridement Monday. He'll begin rehabbing in the coming days with his sights set on 2018.
Jun 16 2017Alberto will undergo shoulder surgery Monday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Alberto has yet to play an inning this season due to numerous setbacks in his rehab process, and it seems that things have gotten bad enough that he'll now go under the knife to correct his shoulder woes. It's unclear exactly what is going to be done, but it's tough to imagine that he'll be able to return this season after all that he's been through thus far.
Jun 8 2017Alberto (shoulder) has sat out the last two games for Triple-A Round Rock due to arm soreness, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The utility infielder has been sidelined all season with a shoulder issue, but he was able to get back into game action this week. He appeared in five games with Round Rock before sitting out Wednesday and Thursday, slashing .350/.381/.550 with a home run and a double. Alberto had been reportedly getting closer to being activated, so it's unclear whether his recent issue will push back his expected return date.
Jun 5 2017Alberto (shoulder) will move his rehab to Triple-A Round Rock this week, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Alberto, who has been out all season while recovering from a sore right shoulder, appeared in three games for Double-A Frisco, going 3-for-11 at the dish. He'll likely remain with Round Rock for the next handful of games before the Rangers activate him from the 60-day disabled list, though it's unclear if he would immediately join the big club in a utility role.
Jun 1 2017Alberto (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Thursday.Alberto managed to appear in games at extended spring training, but this is the first time he'll be able to play outside of the controlled environment. No word has emerged on how long he'll remain on the rehab stint, but it seems like Alberto is finally nearing a return to the big-league club in the next week or two.
May 27 2017Alberto (shoulder) played seven innings at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in an extended spring training game Friday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto and Adrian Beltre (calf), who have both been sidelined all season, comprised the left side of the infield in Friday's game, but it's believed that Beltre is further along in his recovery and will be in store for a quicker activation from the disabled list. Once Alberto demonstrates in rehab games in the minors that he's capable of playing all over the diamond and that the right shoulder tightness isn't compromising his hitting, he'll likely rejoin the Rangers and work in a utility role.
May 25 2017Alberto (shoulder) has resumed full baseball activities at extended spring training in Arizona, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Alberto has been out since the spring with a sore shoulder, which prompted the Rangers to shift him to the 60-day disabled list last week. The 24-year-old is probably multiple weeks away from being activated, but it sounds like he'll be able to take part in simulated games at extended spring training within the next few days. If all goes well on that front, Alberto would likely then head out on a rehab assignment in the minors. Once the Rangers determine he's ready to come off the DL, Alberto could displace Pete Kozma as a utility man off the bench.
May 16 2017Alberto (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday. The Rangers needed a spot on the 40-man roster for recent call-up Jared Hoying, and given that Alberto is still a ways away from returning to action, he was a logical choice to be moved off the 40-man. No firm timetable for Alberto's return has been provided yet, but things should become clearer as he progresses further in his rehab program.
Apr 25 2017Alberto (shoulder) has been cleared to resume playing catch, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. The platelet-rich plasma injection Alberto required in his sore shoulder in late March has apparently had the desired effect, so the utility infielder will now attempt to ease his way back into playing shape following a layoff of about a month and a half. Because the 24-year-old missed a large portion of spring training, he'll likely require an extensive rehab assignment before the Rangers activate him from the disabled list, perhaps at some point in mid-May.
Apr 1 2017Alberto (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. This isn't a surprise, as Alberto was shut down from throwing for two weeks after receiving a PRP injection in his shoulder Monday. The 24-year-old remains without a timetable, though there should be a better idea of when he'll return after he's cleared to resume throwing. With Alberto sidelined to start the year, Drew Robinson has replaced him on the Opening Day roster.
Mar 27 2017Alberto is set to receive a PRP injection in his right shoulder and will be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto has been bothered by a sore right shoulder for most of March, and it appears the lingering issue will force him to begin the 2017 campaign on the DL. His timetable remains unclear, but there should be a better idea once he's cleared to begin throwing agains. With the 24-year-old sidelined for the start of the season, Drew Robinson could replace him on the Opening Day roster.
Mar 26 2017Alberto suffered a setback with his sore right shoulder and required an MRI on Saturday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers decided to temporarily shut Alberto down after he experienced renewed pain in the shoulder, and his status for Opening Day is now looking like a serious question mark. He'll be reevaluated Monday, at which point the Rangers should have a better idea of how long he'll be sidelined. If Alberto is forced to open the campaign on the 10-day DL, it could aid Drew Robinson's bid for a roster spot.
Mar 21 2017Alberto (shoulder) is still experiencing soreness when he throws, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Alberto was cleared to throw earlier in the week, but it seems like he'll need some more rest before he picks things back up. It didn't seem like the injury would affect his readiness for Opening Day, but if it continues to linger, it could hurt his chances at making the roster as a reserve infielder.
Mar 17 2017Alberto (shoulder) has been cleared to throw again and should appear in game action next week, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. The 24-year-old was seeing extra playing time with other infielders away at the World Baseball Classic, and it's possible his shoulder was a little overworked during that time. He'll begin throwing again on Friday and is hoping to return to action by next week. Barring any setbacks, he should provide infield depth for the Rangers in 2017.
Mar 13 2017Alberto has been shut down for a few days due experiencing shoulder soreness, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Alberto had been seeing added time in the lineup as of late while some the players ahead of him on the depth chart have been away at the World Baseball Classic. It's possible that some of the extra playing time could have contributed to the 24-year-old feeling a little fatigued. Alberto will be hoping that his shoulder soreness will not hurt his chances making Texas' opening day roster as a backup infielder.
Sep 2 2016The Rangers recalled Alberto from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.Alberto, who appeared in 25 games with the Rangers earlier this season, was called up to provide infield depth during the Rangers' postseason run. He can play shortstop, but Elvis Andrus starts there nearly every day, so expect Alberto's playing time to be minimal.
Jul 20 2016Alberto was recalled by the Rangers on Wednesday.Injuries to Prince Fielder (neck) and Shin-Soo Choo (back) forced the Rangers hand Wednesday as they had to call up reinforcements just days after the All-Star break. Alberto will presumably take on Fielder's role but to a lesser extent while he's up with the big league club, meaning he'll add depth at first base while also providing depth in the middle infield spots. During Alberto's 24-game stint with the big league club earlier in the season, he slashed .162/.162/.162 with a 33 percent strikeout rate over 39 plate appearances.
Jun 4 2016Alberto was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. This was the corresponding move for Tom Wilhelmsen getting recalled to join the bullpen. Alberto wasn't going to be playing much now that Rougned Odor has finished serving his suspension and Jurickson Profar has yet to be optioned back to Triple-A.
May 5 2016Alberto is in the lineup and batting ninth for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto is struggling offensively this season, going just 2-for-17 through 13 games. His inability to produce at the plate along with his lack of playing time makes his fantasy value minimal.
Apr 27 2016Alberto is batting eighth and starting at first base in Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The natural middle infielder gets a rare start in Wednesday's game as the Rangers attempt to put as many right-handed bats in the lineup as possible. Alberto is hitting .143 this season with no runs, RBI or extra-base hits. He replaces Mitch Moreland in the lineup.
Mar 29 2016Alberto was told that he will make the Opening Day roster, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.Alberto's inclusion on the final roster likely means that Pedro Ciriaco won't make the team. Alberto should see time at all three infield spots, but he probably won't get more than a start or two per week, at least at the beginning of the season.
Mar 24 2016Alberto enters Friday's game hitting .351 in 37 at-bats as he continues to battle Pedro Ciriaco for the utility infielder role.Alberto actually trails Ciriaco in the race strictly from a numbers' perspective, with Alberto's .351/.342/.514 (37 at-bats) slash line trailing that of Ciriaco's .500/.488/.548 (42 at-bats), though Alberto has the advantage of being on the 40-man roster already and time spent with Texas last season. Neither player is expected to see much action once the season begins however.
Oct 9 2015Alberto is in the lineup for the Rangers' ALDS matchup with the Blue Jays on Friday, Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports.Alberto replaced an injured Adrian Beltre (back) at third base during Thursday's game, and he will do the same in Friday's lineup with Beltre unable to play a full nine innings. Alberto will hit ninth against Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman.
Aug 26 2015Alberto will get the start at second base Wednesday and bat ninth in the order.Rougned Odor will miss Wednesday's game after sustaining a finger injury, so Alberto will fill in at second base. The 22-year-old Alberto has yet to collect a hit in five at-bats since being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock last week and he'll have the tough task of trying to break that mini-slump against David Price on Wednesday.
Aug 19 2015Alberto was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.Alberto will basically take the role of the man he's replacing, Adam Rosales, as a utility infielder. He played decently over 24 games with the Rangers earlier in the season, going 18-for-73 without a home run. The 22-year-old doesn't provide much power, but did post an average of .310 and an OBP of .331 at Triple-A Round Rock this season, earning him another shot with the big league club.
Jul 5 2015Alberto was sent down to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. The return of Delino DeShields (hamstring) from the DL left the Rangers with no room to carry Alberto, who had seen his playing time decline following the promotion of Rougned Odor from the minors. Alberto is only 22 and stands to benefit from playing regularly, so the Rangers determined it wasn't ideal for his development to serve as a lightly-used bench bat with the big club.
Jun 6 2015Alberto went 3-for-4 Saturday with a double and a run scored. He's now hitting .344 (11-for-32) in eight games since being called up, and Alberto appears to be locking down the Rangers' starting second base spot. Tommy Field started out hot before fading as well though, and Alberto's minor league track record doesn't suggest a lot of fantasy upside, so don't blow your FAAB budget trying to add him to your roster.
May 30 2015Alberto will start at second base and bat ninth Saturday against the Red Sox, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. After going 1-for-3 with a triple in his debut Friday, Alberto will start again Saturday, this time at second base rather than short. Tommy Field was designated for assignment, so the door may be open for Alberto to continue seeing starts, but Adam Rosales, Delino DeShields and perhaps Rougned Odor could all receive consideration for time at second base as well.
May 28 2015Alberto was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Anthony Andro of FOX Sports reports.Alberto will provide depth in the infield, but he doesn't hit for power, draw walks or steal many bases. While only 22 years old, he hasn't shown any real signs of possessing long-term upside.
Mar 15 2015Alberto has been cleared after battling a triceps injury over the weekend, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto took a pitch off the triceps and was experiencing pain and bruising Saturday. However, he's considered fine going forward and should not be limited as the regular season approaches.
Mar 13 2015Alberto is dealing with a bruised left triceps after getting hit by a pitch in Friday's game against the Giants, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Alberto should be considered day-to-day moving forward but there's no reason to be overly concerned since it's the type of injury that won't likely have implications for his long-term viability. However, it's still unclear if he'll be available against the Padres on Saturday.
Nov 21 2014Alberto was added to the Raners' 40-man roster. After struggling at the Double-A level in 2013 hitting just .213, Alberto showed some improvement for Double-A Frisco in 50 games in 2014. He slashed .275/.314/.354 and while he could continue to work his way up in 2015, his addition to the 40-man roster was likely just to ensure the Rangers don't lose him to the Rule 5 draft.
