Apr 5 2024Odor signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor signed with Japan's Yomiuri Giants in January but never wound up playing for them. The 30-year-old was last with the Yankees in 2021, posting a .665 OPS with 15 home runs over 102 games, and he posted a similar OPS in 2022 and 2023 with the Orioles and Padres. Odor's contract contains a July 1 opt-out clause.
Jul 24 2023The Padres released Odor on Monday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was designated for assignment last week and has now officially cleared waivers. Other organizations will probably have some interest in the 29-year-old, though he might have to take a minor-league contract. Over 157 plate appearances with the Padres this season, Odor slashed .210/.306/.370 with four home runs and two stolen bases.
Jul 18 2023Odor was designated for assignment by the Padres on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This move comes a few weeks after the Padres cut ties with Nelson Cruz. Odor was receiving semi-regular playing time out of the DH spot at one point, but he heads into DFA limbo having registered an overall .210/.306/.370 batting line with four homers and 18 RBI in 59 games (157 plate appearances) for San Diego.
Jul 15 2023Odor will sit for the first portion of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has featured regularly against righties of late but hasn't started against a southpaw all season, so it's no surprise to see him on the bench against Ranger Suarez. Odor could return to the lineup for the nightcap against right-hander Taijuan Walker.
Jul 7 2023Odor is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor seemed poised for an uptick in playing time when the Padres parted ways with Nelson Cruz earlier this week, but he's now been absent from the starting lineup five out of the last six games. Matt Carpenter will serve as the DH and bat eighth Friday versus the Mets and right-hander Justin Verlander.
Jul 5 2023Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Though he's on the bench for the fourth time in five games, three of the lefty-hitting Odor's absences have come against southpaw pitchers. Odor still appears to have the edge on the final spot in San Diego's regular lineup versus right-handed pitching, even though he owns a modest .214/.307/.393 slash line (96 wRC+) in those matchups on the season.
Jul 2 2023Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With lefty Andrew Abbott on the hill, the lefty-hitting Odor will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Short-side platoon mate Nelson Cruz will serve as the Padres' designated hitter Sunday in Odor's stead.
Jun 30 2023Odor is starting at second base and batting eighth on Friday in Cincinnati. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After starting in right field Thursday, Odor gets the call at his more familiar second base spot Friday. Odor was terrible in April but boasts an .821 OPS since the beginning of May and has seen starts at four different spots, including designated hitter.
Jun 5 2023Odor (groin) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Monday versus the Cubs, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will be back in the lineup after exiting Friday's loss early with a groin injury and missing the last two games. The 29-year-old has produced a .310 batting average with three homers, 14 RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases over 42 at-bats since May 16.
Jun 3 2023The Padres believe that Odor (groin) may not need a trip to the injured list, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As Cassavell notes on his report, this is an unexpected turn of events. Odor left Friday's loss to the Cubs after tweaking his groin while rounding first on a double, and Padres manager Bob Melvin told reporters that it was widely expected that Odor would need a stint on the injured list. The Padres will now wait a few days before making the decision, but the optimism suggests this could be a short stay on the IL if he is placed on the list early next week.
Jun 2 2023Padres manager Bob Melvin told reporters after Friday's loss to the Cubs that Odor exited with a left groin strain, and he's likely to be placed on the 10-day injured list before Saturday's game, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: "[Odor] gives us length in the lineup, has been great for us," Melvin said. "So, if you lose him for a significant period of time, it's going to hurt." Odor hurt the groin while he was rounding second on a double. Assuming he does go on the injured list, the Padres will make a corresponding transaction prior to Saturday's bout against Chicago.
May 31 2023Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has been occupying a regular spot in the lineup since Manny Machado fractured his left hand May 15 and eventually landed on the injured list, but with southpaw Braxton Garrett on the bump for Miami, the lefty-hitting Odor will retreat to the bench. Jake Cronenworth will fill in at the keystone for Odor, who had gone 6-for-26 with three home runs, a double, a stolen base, 10 RBI and five runs while starting in each of the past six games.
May 28 2023Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is now 9-for-28 with three homers and 14 RBI in his last seven games. The veteran infielder has certainly held his own while filling in for the injured Manny Machado (hand). Odor is now slashing .210/.289/.420 with four home runs and 17 RBI through 90 plate appearances this season.
May 21 2023Odor went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in Sunday's win against Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor ripped a three-run double in the first inning followed by another RBI double in the sixth. It was the veteran infielder's first multi-hit game of the year and his first game with an extra-base hit since May 11. He's slashing .175/.266/.298 with four doubles and seven RBI through 64 plate appearances.
May 11 2023Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Minnesota on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor briefly gave San Diego a lead with his solo shot to right field in the fifth inning, though San Diego went on to lose. The long ball was the first of the campaign for Odor, who joined the Padres on a minor-league deal in early spring. Though he's remained on the big-league roster, the veteran has played sparingly, registering a .119/.213/.238 slash line over 47 plate appearances.
May 3 2023Odor is starting at second base and batting eighth for the Padres in Wednesday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manny Machado is getting a breather, so Ha-Seong Kim will handle third base while Odor enters the lineup at the keystone. Odor is just 3-for-31 at the plate so far this season.
Apr 6 2023Odor is starting in right field and batting eighth Thursday at Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Jose Azocar and David Dahl are both on the bench for the visiting Padres. Odor enters the day 1-for-7 through three games played in a super-utility role.
Mar 30 2023Odor had his contract selected by the Padres on Thursday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor won a bench role in San Diego by slashing .316/.422/.474 with two home runs and two stolen bases across 45 plate appearances in the Cactus League. But he probably won't get quite enough playing time to garner legitimate fantasy appeal.
Mar 1 2023Odor agreed Wednesday with the Padres on a minor-league contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He reported to big-league camp Wednesday and looks like he'll get the chance to compete for a bench spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster. Though he turned in three 30-plus-home run seasons in the majors before turning 26 years old, the now-29-year-old Odor has shown a dramatic dip in power over the past three campaigns, and his perennially poor plate discipline hasn't dramatically improved either. While he was with the Orioles last season, Odor dabbled at third base but continued to see most of his action at the keystone. His lack of experience at shortstop as well as his left-handedness likely works against him in his hopes of capturing a utility or platoon role with the Padres.
Oct 5 2022Odor will sit Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will take a seat for the third time in the last four games that the Orioles have faced a right-hander, a trend that has developed late in the season. Terrin Vavra will start at second base and bat sixth in the matinee.
Oct 4 2022Odor will sit Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor spent much of the year starting against righties while sitting against lefties, but his off day here against Mitch White means he's now been on the bench against three of the last four righties the Orioles have faced. Terrin Vavra, who has a better chance of helping the team next season, will again get the start at second base.
Oct 2 2022Odor is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor and Terrin Vavra have alternated the starts at second base in recent days, and the pattern will continue Sunday, as after Odor started Saturday and Vavra came off the bench, the two will spot spats a day later.
Sep 30 2022Odor will sit Friday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor hits the bench even with righty Domingo German scheduled to start for New York. Terrin Vavra will start at second base.
Sep 28 2022Odor isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is getting a chance to rest after he went 9-for-17 with a home run, a double, seven RBI, four runs, a walk and a strikeout over the last four games. Terrin Vavra will take over at the keystone and bat eighth, but Odor should serve as the primary option at the position for the rest of the season after Ramon Urias (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Sep 25 2022Odor went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's loss against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's two-run single off Framber Valdez in the fourth tied the game up at two runs apiece and the second baseman would later come around to score on a Cedrick Mullins home run. Odor tried to spark a rally with his solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Orioles back within a run, but his effort would fall short. It was a nice game for Odor, who's struggled to find consistent playing time of late with only 11 starts in September.
Sep 21 2022Odor isn't starting Wednesday against Detroit, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has lost out on playing time recently and will be held out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game. Terrin Vavra is starting at the keystone and batting fifth.
Sep 19 2022Odor is once again not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's 0-for-15 stretch across five games has resulted in two straight omissions from the starting lineup. Ramon Urias is starting at second base Monday, but Odor will likely return to the lineup sometime soon.
Sep 18 2022Odor is not in Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has gone 0-for-7 with two strikeouts in two games since returning from a minor hand injury. He will likely be a part-time player for the Orioles over the final two-plus weeks.
Sep 16 2022Odor (hand) is starting Friday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor sat out the last two games after he was hit in the hand by a pitch Sunday, but he'll start at the keystone and bat seventh during Friday's matchup. Over seven games since the start of September, he's hit .182 with a home run, a double, four runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.
Sep 14 2022Odor (hand) isn't starting Wednesday against Washington, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was hit by a pitch on his right hand Sunday and will be held out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Ramon Urias will start at the keystone and bat fifth.
Sep 13 2022Odor (hand contusion) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor exited Sunday's game with a right hand contusion suffered on a hit-by-pitch earlier in the game. He isn't a true everyday player, so perhaps Odor is available off the bench despite not being in the lineup. Ramon Urias is starting at the keystone.
Sep 11 2022Odor was removed from Sunday's game against the Red Sox in the top of the ninth inning due to a right hand contusion, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning and initially remained in the game, but he was replaced defensively to begin the ninth inning. He underwent X-rays that came back negative, so he should tentatively be considered day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Nationals.
Sep 10 2022Odor isn't starting Saturday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor started the last four games and went 2-for-13 with a home run, a double, four runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Ramon Urias will take over at the keystone and bat seventh Saturday.
Sep 6 2022Odor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in an 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays in the second game of Monday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was on the bench for the first contest, but returned to the lineup at second base for Game 2. He delivered the opening run, a solo shot in the second inning, but Toronto scored the next eight runs before Baltimore offered a response. Odor has gone 5-for-15 (.333) in his last four games, perhaps responding to the wake-up call to the Orioles' middle infield after Gunnar Henderson was promoted Aug. 31. Odor owns a .203/.268/.360 slash line with 12 homers, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored and five steals through 119 contests.
Sep 5 2022Odor is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor will remain on the bench against a right-handed pitcher for the second straight game while the Orioles take on Kevin Gausman in the matinee contest. Gunnar Henderson will draw the start at second base while Jesus Aguilar enters the lineup at designated hitter and bats seventh against Toronto. The newly signed Aguilar could end up replacing Odor as a regular in the Baltimore lineup.
Sep 4 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the A's, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 28-year-old has regularly sat against left-handed pitching this season, but he'll take a seat Sunday with righty Adrian Martinez on the mound for Oakland. Prospect Gunnar Henderson will man the keystone and could continue cutting into Odor's playing time down the stretch.
Sep 2 2022Odor went 2-for-4 with one steal in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor recorded two singles and stole second base against Shane Bieber in the seventh inning. The second baseman's power has been nonexistent over his last 20 games, and he sports a .242/.314/.258 slash line during that stretch with zero homers and only one double. Furthermore, the 28-year-old has only four RBI during that stretch.
Aug 27 2022Odor went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has collected just five hits in 35 at-bats across his last 13 games. He was able to be productive with his fourth steal of the season in this contest, but the slump comes at a bad time for the second baseman. With rosters set to expand Sept. 1, Gunnar Henderson is seen as a potential call-up, and he's been logging time all around the infield for Triple-A Norfolk. Given that Odor is slashing just .201/.269/.360 with 11 home runs, 43 RBI and 40 runs scored through 113 games, he could be at risk of losing playing time to Henderson either directly or with Ramon Urias potentially shifting to the keystone over the last month-plus of the regular season.
Aug 25 2022Odor is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will get a day off after he went 0-for-6 with a walk and a strikeout in the first two games of the series. Terrin Vavra will take over at second base while Kyle Stowers enters the lineup in right field and bats fifth in the series finale.
Aug 20 2022Odor will sit Saturday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will hit the bench despite the fact that the Red Sox are set to start righty Michael Wacha. It's the first time this season that he'll be on the bench against a right-hander while healthy, unless he's dealing with an unreported injury. Ramon Urias will start at second base and bat fifth.
Aug 15 2022Odor isn't starting Monday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor started the last five games and went 8-for-19 with a homer, five RBI, three runs and a stolen base over that stretch. Terrin Vavra will take over at the keystone while Tyler Nevin serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 14 2022Odor went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-2 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was at risk of losing playing time to Terrin Vavra earlier in the week, but the former has responded with three multi-hit efforts in his last four games. Through 100 contests overall, Odor is slashing .208/.269/.381 with 11 home runs, three steals, 42 RBI and 39 runs scored. He should stick in the lineup against most right-handed pitchers as well as some lefties.
Aug 12 2022Odor went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 10-3 win against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor knocked RBI singles in the sixth and seventh frames, giving him four RBI over his last three games after a 10-game slump without one. He'd been stuck in a 3-for-26 (.115) skid through eight games this month entering Friday. Odor is now slashing .203/.264/.378 with 41 RBI and 39 runs scored through 99 games.
Aug 9 2022Odor went 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 6-5 victory over the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor notched a base hit in the fourth inning and launched a 415-foot home run to right to give the Orioles the lead in the bottom of the eighth. While Tuesday's performance was promising, Odor still owns a measly .196/.259/.376 line on the season. His .195 xBA and .324 xSLG suggest there is little room for improvement, so he should still be considered a fringe option at best.
Aug 8 2022Odor will sit Monday versus the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will take a seat after he went 1-for-8 with a double and a run scored over the three-game series with the Pirates. Ramon Urias will slide over to second base while Tyler Nevin takes over at third base and bats ninth in the series opener.
Aug 6 2022Odor went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Pirates. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor entered Saturday batting .128 (5-for-39) with three walks in 12 games since the All-Star break. He had no home runs or steals in that span, and just two extra-base hits. The second baseman is slashing .195/.259/.369 with 10 homers, two steals, 37 RBI, 36 runs scored, 16 doubles and three triples through 94 contests. Odor's slump has coincided with the promotion and subsequent success of Terrin Vavra, who has mainly been confined to designated hitter over concerns about his defense not being major-league ready. Considering Odor has committed nine errors (second-most among second basemen) and posted a .975 fielding percentage, the Orioles' defensive situation at the keystone can't get much worse. Vavra posted a .971 fielding percentage in 24 games at second base across two levels of the minors prior to his promotion.
Aug 3 2022Odor isn't starting Wednesday against the Rangers, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor started the last two games but will head to the bench with left-hander Martin Perez on the mound for Texas on Wednesday. Ramon Urias is shifting to the keystone while Tyler Nevin starts at third base.
Jul 31 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor will retreat to the bench with the Reds bringing southpaw Nick Lodolo to the hill for the series finale. Ramon Urias will slide over from third base to replace Odor at the keystone.
Jul 28 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor will sit for the second time since the All-Star break with the Rays bringing southpaw Ryan Yarbrough to the hill for the series finale. Ramon Urias will move over from third base to pick up a start at the keystone in place of Odor, who has opened the second half by going 3-for-17 with a double, two walks, two RBI and one run in five games.
Jul 24 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is 1-for-7 with a double and a walk in his first two games out of the All-Star break, and he'll take a seat Sunday with lefty Nestor Cortes pitching for New York. Ramon Urias will shift to second base while Tyler Nevin starts at the hot corner.
Jul 17 2022Odor went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-5 loss to the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor went yard in the sixth inning to get the Orioles within two runs, but that was as close as they got. This was the second baseman's first multi-hit effort since July 4, and he had only one extra-base hit in that 10-game skid. He's up to 10 homers, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored and a stolen base while slashing .202/.263/.393 in 281 plate appearances this year.
Jul 16 2022Odor isn't starting Saturday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor drew starts in the last five games and went 2-for-17 with two RBI, a run, a walk and seven strikeouts. Ramon Urias is shifting to second base while Tyler Nevin starts at the hot corner.
Jul 8 2022Odor went 1-for-1 with a run and two stolen bases during Friday's 5-4 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor wasn't in the lineup for Friday's matchup, but he entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning. He recorded a single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and proceeded to steal two bases to help the Orioles secure a comeback win. He's recorded hits in five of his last seven games and has hit .304 with two homers, two doubles, four runs, two RBI and three stolen bases during that time.
Jul 6 2022Odor went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 10-9 extra-inning win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when Odor took Rangers closer Joe Barlow deep for a game-tying blast. Odor has gone 8-for-31 (.258) with two homers, three doubles, four runs scored and two RBI in his last eight games since returning to the starting nine after overcoming a sore back. The second baseman is slashing .206/.262/.408 with nine homers, 31 RBI, 29 runs scored, 13 doubles and three triples in 71 contests this year.
Jul 4 2022Odor went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor hadn't posted a multi-hit game since June 16, going just 4-for-34 (.118) in 12 contests during that slump. He's showed signs of turning things around with hits in five of his last seven games. The second baseman is slashing .206/.263/.399 with eight home runs, 30 RBI, 28 runs scored, 13 doubles and three triples through 243 plate appearances. He should maintain a regular role in the lineup over Jonathan Arauz, who has mainly played third base since joining the Orioles after he was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox.
Jul 3 2022Odor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 3-1 win over the Twins on Sunday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's home run to open the scoring in the fifth was his eighth of the season. The veteran second baseman has shown a bit of pop despite struggling at the plate overall this season. Odor has never been a high average hitter, and his .197/.256/.390 slash line in 2022 puts him in the lower tier of MLB. He appears to have a secure role with the Orioles due to the team needing a veteran to take at-bats as the younger teammates like Ryan Mountcastle and Adley Rutschman develop.
Jun 27 2022Odor (back) will return to the lineup Monday against the Mariners, batting second and playing second base, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor had been out of the lineup since Tuesday while dealing with a sore back, though he did appear off the bench Sunday, striking out in his lone plate appearance. He's now past the injury, though that may not be a significant boost to the Orioles, as he's hitting just .198/.256/.386 on the year.
Jun 26 2022Odor (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor remains day-to-day with a sore back, which will keep him on the bench for a fifth consecutive contest. Richie Martin will pick up another start at second base in Odor's stead.
Jun 25 2022Odor (back) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor said his back soreness is improving, but he'll be held out of the lineup for the fourth straight game. The 28-year-old may be available to pinch hit. Jonathan Arauz will start at the keystone after being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
Jun 24 2022Odor (back) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor suffered the back injury while pinch hitting Wednesday and will be held out of the lineup Friday for the second consecutive game. It's unclear if the 28-year-old will be available off the bench. Richie Martin will start at the keystone in Odor's place.
Jun 23 2022Odor isn't starting Thursday against the White Sox due to back soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Thursday, and he apparently sustained his back injury on a swing while serving as a pinch hitter Wednesday against the Nationals. However, it's possible that he'll be available off the bench Thursday, so he should tentatively be considered day-to-day.
Jun 22 2022Odor will sit Wednesday versus the Nationals, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will get a breather after he went 0-for-11 over the last four games. Richie Martin will draw the start at second base and bat ninth Wednesday.
Jun 18 2022Odor isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor started in the last three games and went 2-for-10 with a triple, two RBI, a run and two strikeouts. Richie Martin will take over at the keystone and bat ninth Saturday.
Jun 17 2022Odor went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor tripled home a run in the seventh inning and also collected a single to record his first multi-hit effort in his last 15 starts. He's still shown plenty of power in that stretch, collecting four home runs with eight RBI and nine runs scored. Overall, Odor has maintained a .212/.272/.413 line across 202 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 14 2022Odor is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: He heads to the bench in favor of Richie Martin with lefty Yusei Kikuchi on the hill for Toronto. Odor is hitting .156/.341/.438 with three home runs in 10 games this month.
Jun 12 2022Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor contributed to a four-run rally in the second inning with a solo shot, snapping an 0-for-10 skid at the plate. The second baseman has hit five of his seven homers this season in his last 16 games. He's posted a .213/.274/.414 slash line with 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and 10 doubles through 54 contests. With Ramon Urias (oblique) on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Odor could lose some playing time to the recently-recalled righty-hitting Richie Martin at second base. Odor also has some limited experience at third base, where Tyler Nevin has taken on a starting role lately, but there's been no indication the former will pick up any starts at the hot corner.
Jun 5 2022Odor went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Guardians. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor left no doubt on his fourth-inning homer, which landed on Eutaw Street outside Camden Yards. The Orioles mustered only five hits Saturday, but Odor's was one of three that landed over the fence. He's been solid lately with five of his six homers for the year coming in his last 15 games. The infielder has posted a .223/.268/.427 slash line with 26 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and two triples in 49 contests overall, but he's hitting a much more solid .259/.310/.630 during his power surge.
Jun 1 2022Odor went 1-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and two runs scored Wednesday against the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor took Robbie Ray yard in the second inning to record his fifth home run of the season. It was his fourth long ball in his last 12 games, during which time Odor has also recorded 15 RBI and eight runs scored. For the season, Odor has a .223/.261/.419 line across 157 plate appearances.
May 30 2022Odor will sit Monday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor had actually been in the lineup against the last three lefties this Orioles faced, but he'll retreat to the bench here against Rich Hill, as he'd done against nearly every southpaw prior to that recent stretch. Chris Owings will be the second baseman.
May 28 2022Odor went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 4-2 win over the Red Sox in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Orioles' scoring all came in the third inning, with Odor's blast serving as the biggest hit of the game. The second baseman saw his 11-game hitting streak snapped in the matinee, but he's still been effective at the plate for much of May. He's at a .230/.265/.417 slash line with four long balls, 22 RBI, 16 runs scored, 10 doubles and two triples through 43 contests this year.
May 25 2022Odor went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: An RBI groundout in the fifth inning and a three-run blast off Michael King in the seventh accounted for Odor's production. The 28-year-old second baseman extended his hitting streak to nine games with the long ball, a stretch during which he's batting .303 (10-for-33) with two homers and nine RBI.
May 20 2022Odor went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and a strikeout in Friday's 8-6 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor remained on the bench for a second straight game against a left-handed pitcher, but he entered the game in the bottom of the 11th inning as a pinch hitter. Although he struck out in his first at-bat, he homered to right field with one out in the bottom of the 13th inning. The 28-year-old is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak in which he's gone 5-for-15 with a homer, a double, three RBI, two runs and five strikeouts.
May 19 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As per usual, the lefty-hitting Odor will find himself on the bench against a lefty, as southpaw Jordan Montgomery is on the mound for the Yankees. Chris Owings will pick up a start at the keystone in place of Odor.
May 15 2022Odor is not in Sunday's lineup against the Tigers, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is hitting .200 with eight strikeouts, zero walks and one home run in 10 games this month. Tyler Nevin gets the start at third base with Ramon Urias starting at the keystone.
May 13 2022Odor (illness) is starting Friday against the Tigers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was unavailable Thursday against the Cardinals due to sinus problems, but he'll be back in the lineup a day later, even though left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is starting for Detroit. Odor has hit .143 with a double, three RBI and a run over his last five games.
May 12 2022Odor was unavailable for Thursday's win over the Cardinals due to sinus problems, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old likely wouldn't have started Wednesday even if he was healthy since lefty Steven Matz pitched for St. Louis, though he may have made an appearance off the bench. Another lefty in Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to start Friday for the Tigers, so Odor is unlikely to rejoin the lineup even if available.
May 10 2022Odor will sit Tuesday against the Cardinals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has been in a strict platoon at second base this season, starting against every righty while sitting against every lefty. Even with that usage, he's still managed a poor .203/.256/.342 slash line. Ramon Urias will slide to second base against lefty Packy Naughton on Tuesday, with Tyler Nevin starting at third.
May 8 2022Odor isn't starting the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Royals, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's matinee, but he'll get a breather in the second game of the twin bill. Chris Owings will start at the keystone and bat ninth.
May 1 2022Odor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 9-5 win over the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor singled to lead off the fifth inning and came around to score, and he led off again in the sixth and launched a homer 431 feet to right field. It's the first long ball of the season for the 28-year-old, and he improved his season slash line to .200/.274/.327
Apr 24 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor will retreat to the bench with southpaw Jose Suarez on the hill for the Angels. Chris Owings steps in for Odor at second base.
Apr 22 2022Odor will be on the bench Friday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will hit the bench against lefty Reid Detmers. He hasn't started against any of the six southpaws the Orioles have faced this season but has been in the lineup against all eight righties. Ramon Urias will be the second baseman Friday.
Apr 19 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Oakland, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has yet to start against a left-handed pitcher this season, and that trend will continue Tuesday with southpaw Cole Irvin on the mound for the A's. Ramon Urias will shift to second base while Kelvin Gutierrez starts at the hot corner.
Apr 17 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Southpaw Nestor Cortes is pitching for New York, so Odor will make his way to the bench. Chris Owings will receive another start at the keystone for Baltimore on Sunday.
Apr 15 2022Odor isn't starting Friday's game against the Yankees, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Left-hander Jordan Montgomery is on the mound for the Yankees on Friday, so Odor will retreat to the bench for the second time in the last three games. Chris Owings will start at the keystone and bat ninth.
Apr 12 2022Odor is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Milwaukee is bringing lefty Eric Lauer to the hill for Tuesday's game, so the lefty-hitting Odor will take a seat for the first time since Opening Day. In the three starts he made in between, Odor went 1-for-12 with four strikeouts.
Apr 8 2022Odor will sit for Friday's contest against the Rays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Tampa Bay is sending southpaw Shane McClanahan to the mound, which hints that Odor may be limited to the large side of a platoon this season. Odor does have a platoon split, though it isn't a particularly large one, as he owns an 80 wRC+ against lefties for his career compared to an 88 wRC+ against righties. Ramon Urias starts at second base Friday, with Kelvin Gutierrez starting at third.
Mar 31 2022Odor has gone 1-for-14 across five Grapefruit League games. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor signed with the Orioles in November, joining a crowded infield of prospects and veterans seeking an everyday role. Despite the poor hitting in spring, Odor is expected to open the season as the starting second baseman. He hit a lackluster .202/.286/.379 with 15 home runs, 39 RBI and 42 runs scored in 102 games with the Yankees last season. There's more opportunity to play in Baltimore with Ramon Urias likely to handle third base while Jorge Mateo is in line to be the starting shortstop. Still, if Odor can't get the bat going, the versatility of the Orioles' infield could eventually see him shuffled to a reserve or platoon role.
Nov 30 2021Odor agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was released by the Yankees last week and will remain in the AL East for 2022. The 27-year-old hit .202/.286/.379 with 15 home runs, 39 RBI and 42 runs in 102 games last season and should split time between second and third base.
Nov 23 2021Odor was released by the Yankees on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor crossed the 30-homer threshold three times in four years early in his career and he's still just 27 years old, but it's been several years since he's deserved anything other than a bench role. He hit 15 homers in 361 trips to the plate in 2021, but that's just about all he did, as his overall .202/.286/.379 slash line wasn't good enough for a regular even at second base. If he finds a major-league deal anywhere this winter, it will likely be as little more than a powerful bat off the bench.
Nov 19 2021Odor was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees brought Odor in last season after the Rangers gave up on him, and now he may be looking for another home. Odor hasn't hit better than .205 since 2018.
Sep 6 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor started at third base in four of the past five games, with Gio Urshela missing the last four of those contests with a hand injury. With Urshela rejoining the starting nine for Monday's series opener versus Toronto, Odor's window for everyday playing time appears to have closed.
Aug 29 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has served as an everyday player for the Yankees since the All-Star break, but he looks set to move into a full-time bench role for the final month of the season following Gio Urshela's recent return from a hamstring injury. He'll be on the bench for the third time in four games while Urshela starts at third base and DJ LeMahieu mans the keystone.
Aug 24 2021Odor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Braves. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's solo shot in the seventh inning off Chris Martin ended up being the winning run for the Yankees on Tuesday night. While his team has been soaring through August, the infielder has had a brutal time of it lately, hitting just .156 with five extra base hits in the month.
Aug 16 2021Odor went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Sunday in a 5-3 win over the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor opened the scoring with a two-run, 402-foot blast off Lucas Giolito in the second inning. He also struck out three times in the contest and has whiffed nine times over his past 20 at-bats, serving as a reminder that Odor's power potential comes with considerable batting-average risk. As a whole, Odor's tenure with the Yankees has been relatively pleasant -- his 14 homers ranks fourth on the club and his .301 OBP is on pace for his highest mark since 2018.
Aug 8 2021Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-4 victory over Seattle. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's lone hit in the game was a big one, as his sixth-inning two-run homer pulled the Yankees to within one run. The long ball was Odor's first since July 25 and snapped a season-long 11-game homerless streak. In his first campaign as a Yankee, he is slashing .227/.305/.430 with 13 homers and 35 RBI.
Jul 25 2021Odor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI single in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor opened the scoring by plating Greg Allen with a single in the third inning. Odor also took Red Sox starter Martin Perez deep in the sixth. The second baseman has gone 9-for-29 (.310) during his seven-game hitting streak. The surge has boosted his slash line to .230/.297/.460 with 12 homers, 30 RBI and 28 runs scored through 220 plate appearances.
Jul 24 2021Odor went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor delivered a game-tying double in the eighth inning, driving in two to knot the game at three. He's swung the bat very well across his last 10 starts, collecting at least one hit on nine occasions and multiple hits twice. In that same span, he's delivered three doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored. Overall, Odor is hitting .226/.294/.446 with 27 runs scored and 28 RBI across 215 plate appearances.
Jul 21 2021Odor went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor took Hector Neris yard in the seventh inning to record his 11th home run of the season. He's now gone yard in three of his last eight games, during which time he's also driven in seven and scored seven runs. For the season, Odor has managed a .224/.297/.448 line across 202 plate appearances.
Jul 18 2021Odor went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, two additional runs and a walk in Sunday's 9-1 victory over Boston. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor reached on a bunt single and scored in the fifth, took Boston reliever Darwinzon Hernandez 419-feet deep to right in the seventh, and walked and scored in the eighth. This is the second baseman's second game reaching base three times this month as he's slashed an impressive .318/.400/.636 across eight July games.
Jul 7 2021Odor went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 12-1 win over the Mariners. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor capped off Tuesday's lopsided victory with a three-run blast to right in the eighth inning to put the Yankees up 12-1. It was the first time he's plated three runs all year and his first time going deep since June 23. The 27-year-old Odor is slashing .219/.294/.431 with nine homers, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored and a 13:46 BB:K over 177 plate appearances. His hitting struggles have carried over into 2021 after averaging .205 or worse in three of the last four seasons. He's also only walked three times in 21 games since June 1.
Jun 24 2021Odor went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI on Thursday against the Royals. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor managed his second multi-hit game of June and aided in a strong offensive showing for the Yankees. He's also displayed plenty of power of late, as he has three home runs and two doubles across his last nine contests. Overall, Odor is hitting .211/.284/.422 with eight home runs, 17 runs scored and 18 RBI across 162 plate appearances on the campaign.
Jun 20 2021Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old has a .587 OPS and 30.4 percent strikeout rate through 13 games in June, and he's on the bench Sunday with left-hander Sean Manaea starting for Oakland. Odor's regular role at second base versus right-handed starters could be coming to an end with Luke Voit (oblique) expected to return from the injured list Tuesday, which will likely push DJ LeMahieu back to the keystone after the latter spent most of his time at first base during Voit's absence.
Jun 18 2021Odor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor had gone just 1-for-7 with a run and three strikeouts across his last two games, but he broke out of his minor slump with a solo blast in the fifth inning of Friday's matchup. Across his last seven games, the 27-year-old has hit .280 with two homers, three doubles, three runs and two RBI.
Jun 17 2021Odor is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran takes a seat following Wednesday's 0-for-4, three-strikeout struggle. In his last eight games, Odor has hit .179 with nine strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Wade gets the start at second base for Thursday's series finale.
Jun 15 2021Odor will sit against southpaw Hyun Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays on Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor has started 10 times against a lefty this season but hasn't gotten the nod against a southpaw since Chris Gittens was recalled in early June. Gittens starts at first base Tuesday, pushing DJ LeMahieu over to second.
Jun 13 2021Odor went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 10-inning loss to the Phillies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees fell behind early in the contest before Odor kicked off a comeback with a sixth-inning solo homer. The long ball was his first since May 28. The veteran infielder has flashed some pop with six homers and five doubles across 122 at-bats, but he is batting only .197.
Jun 10 2021Odor is not in the lineup Thursday against the Twins. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor went 2-for-8 with two doubles in the past two games but will head to the bench Thursday with lefty J.A. Happ starting for Minnesota. DJ LeMahieu will cover the keystone while Chris Gittens starts at first base.
Jun 6 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor's absence from the lineup against an opposing southpaw (Eduardo Rodriguez) on Saturday didn't come as a surprise, but he'll remain on the bench Sunday with right-hander Garrett Richards on the bump for Boston. With Odor posting a lackluster .613 OPS in 123 plate appearances since joining the Yankees shortly after Opening Day, manager Aaron Boone may be inclined to limit Odor's opportunities moving forward in favor of the newly recalled Chris Gittens, who will make his second straight start Sunday.
Jun 2 2021Odor will start at second base and bat sixth Wednesday against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Luke Voit's (oblique) recent move to the injured list looks as though it will reopen regular work for Odor. DJ LeMahieu will make his second start in three games at first base, opening up the keystone once again for Odor, who is in the lineup for the third game in a row.
May 28 2021Odor went 4-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the Yankees' offensive team struggles, Odor had his best night at the plate this season. He added three singles on top of his solo home run off Casey Mize to lead off the fifth inning. Friday was only his third multi-hit game this season, with the other two being two-hit games. The 27-year-old's average jumped from .160 to .198 after his four-hit game, and he is slashing .198/.296/.395 in 98 plate appearances. He is batting just .219 over his last five seasons.
May 23 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With southpaw Dallas Keuchel on the hill for the White Sox, the lefty hitting Odor will take a seat after starting each of the past three games. DJ LeMahieu takes over at second base for Odor, who is sitting on a meager .622 OPS through 86 plate appearances on the season. The Yankees are expected to get everyday designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (quadriceps) back from the injured list as soon as this week, and his return could create a domino effect that results on Odor losing out on regular at-bats.
May 20 2021Odor was reinstated from the paternity list and is starting Thursday's game against the Rangers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor spent just one day on the paternity list, and he'll start at second base and bat fourth Thursday. In his return from the injured list Tuesday, Odor went 2-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts.
May 19 2021Odor was placed on the paternity list and will miss Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The move comes just one day after Odor was activated from the injured list and went 2-for-5 against the Rangers on Tuesday. It's unclear how many games Odor will miss.
May 18 2021Odor (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor served as a regular starter before spraining his knee in early May, but there probably aren't everyday at-bats available for him now with Luke Voit back in action at first base, pushing DJ LeMahieu to second. Odor did nothing to earn an everyday role during his 70 plate appearances prior to the injury, hitting just .164/.271/.361. He did cut his strikeout rate dramatically from 31.8 percent last season to 14.3 percent this year, however, which offers some hope for the future once his .128 BABIP rises to a more normal level.
May 16 2021Odor (knee) had "a really good day" Saturday and could be activated during the Yankees' upcoming series against Texas, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the report of Odor's encouraging workout, it now appears more likely than not that he'll be able to play against his former team during New York's Monday-Thursday set in Texas. Odor has been out of action since spraining his knee in a home-plate collision May 4.
May 14 2021Odor (knee) won't return from the injured list when first eligible Saturday and may still require another week on the sidelines, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor reportedly has a chance to return when the Yankees travel to Texas to take on his former team in a series which begins Monday, but it's more likely that he isn't ready to go until the team begins a homestand next Friday. He hasn't shown signs of turning his multi-year skid around during his 19 games in New York thus far, hitting just .164/.271/.361.
May 9 2021Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Odor (knee) took ground balls in the infield Sunday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The door remains open for Odor to return from the injured list during the Yankees' three-game series in Baltimore next weekend, but Boone was unwilling to say whether the veteran infielder would be activated when first eligible. With Luke Voit (knee) on track to come off the IL on Tuesday, Odor will presumably have to settle for a reserve role whenever he's reinstated.
May 5 2021The Yankees placed Odor on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left knee sprain. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor injured the knee when he collided with Astros catcher Martin Maldonado in Tuesday's 7-3 win. A subsequent MRI cleared Odor of any structural damage to the knee, but he'll still be sidelined for at least the next week and a half after being diagnosed with a sprain. DJ LeMahieu should step in as the primary option at second base while Odor is out, opening up more reps at first base for Mike Ford until Luke Voit (knee) is ready to return from the IL.
May 4 2021Odor will undergo an MRI on his left knee Wednesday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old suffered the injury during Tuesday's win over the Astros when he collided with Martin Maldonado on a play at the plate. Odor figures to be unavailable Wednesday even if he's able to avoid a trip to the injured list.
Apr 30 2021Odor went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, two runs and a walk in Friday's 10-0 win over the Tigers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees' offense combined for nine runs in the first four innings of Friday's matchup, and Odor provided the 10th run with a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning. Odor has reached base safely in seven of his last eight games and has gone 7-for-27 with three home runs and eight RBI during that time.
Apr 28 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will cede his spot in the lineup to Mike Ford, who gets the start at first base while DJ LeMahieu shifts back over to the keystone. Over the past week, Odor seems to have won the battle with Ford for the final available spot in the Yankees' everyday infield. Odor had started in each of the Yankees' last six games, while Ford was in the lineup only twice during that time.
Apr 25 2021Odor went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: All the Yankees' offense came on a pair of fifth-inning solo shots off Shane Bieber, with Odor's blast proving to be the game-winner, but it was just enough offense for Gerrit Cole and the bullpen. Odor has flashed his power in New York with three homers and eight RBI in 11 games, and while his .189/.250/.432 slash line seems like a reflection of the same contact woes that caused the Rangers to give up on him, his 2:5 BB:K over that stretch offers some hope he's beginning to figure things out.
Apr 23 2021Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-3 win over Cleveland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor went yard off Cleveland starter Logan Allen in the second inning, tying the game at 3-3. The long ball was Odor's second homer in 10 games as a Yankee. He's added seven RBI and four runs scored. The second baseman is yet to attempt a stolen base. He's slashing just .176/.222/.353 in 36 plate appearances, and he usually hits in the bottom third of the order.
Apr 21 2021Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Now on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Ian Anderson) for the second day in a row, Odor appears to have lost out on an everyday role. He started in each of his first seven games with the Yankees, going 3-for-24 with a home run and one walk. DJ LeMahieu will move back to his more natural position at second base, while the recently-recalled Mike Ford picks up a second straight start at first base.
Apr 18 2021Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor went deep to right field in the seventh inning for his first long ball since joining New York on April 6. The veteran is slashing just .143/.182/.286 in six games this season, but he appears to have taken over the Yankees' everyday second base role for the time being.
Apr 17 2021Odor is starting Saturday's game against the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will be in the starting lineup at second base for a sixth straight contest while DJ LeMahieu starts at first base. While Odor has hit just .118 in his first five appearances with the Yankees, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that Odor will continue to start at the keystone LeMahieu at first base while Luke Voit (knee) remains sidelined, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Jay Bruce will serve in a depth role now that Odor has a regular spot in the starting nine.
Apr 14 2021Odor will start at second base and bat eighth Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees have wasted little time working Odor into the mix since acquiring him from the Rangers on April 6. He'll be picking up his fourth straight start at the keystone Wednesday after going 2-for-12 with a pair of RBI through his first three games with the club. New York could end up moving DJ LeMahieu over to first base on a more regular basis if Odor performs well enough at the plate to earn an everyday role.
Apr 12 2021Odor went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run in Sunday's victory over Tampa Bay. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: In his first game with the Yankees, Odor started at second base and batted sixth in the lineup. He failed to get on base in his first four plate appearances but turned things around with a 10th-inning, two-out RBI single to give New York the lead and open the floodgates to a four-run frame. This certainly ranks as a promising debut for Odor, who is looking to turn around his career after he was dropped off the Rangers' 40-man roster in early April.
Apr 10 2021Odor was activated by the Yankees on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was traded from the Rangers to the Yankees on Tuesday, but he was unable to join his new team prior to clearing COVID-19 intake protocols. However, he'll join the club ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Rays and should serve in a bench role for the Yankees. Tyler Wade was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room for Odor on the active roster.
Apr 9 2021Odor is going through the COVID-19 intake protocols in Tampa Bay and could join the Yankees during this weekend's series versus the Rays, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 27-year-old was acquired from the Rangers earlier this week but has yet to be officially added to New York's active roster. Odor is expected to fill a bench role once able to join his new team.
Apr 7 2021Odor has not joined the Yankees as of Wednesday, Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was acquired in a trade with the Rangers on Tuesday, but he has yet to make his way to the club. It's not yet clear where the veteran infielder will fit in once he does join New York. Though the team is currently carrying 25 men on its roster, Goodman also noted that reliever Justin Wilson (shoulder) is expected to occupy the 26th spot when he is activated Friday.
Apr 6 2021Odor was traded from the Rangers to the Yankees on Tuesday along with cash in exchange for Josh Stowers and Antonio Cabello, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Yankees have helped previously unheralded players like Luke Voit and Gio Urshela reach new levels in recent seasons, but Odor is quite the reclamation project. After hitting .265/.302/.464 over his first three years in the league, he's hit just .215/.279/.418 in the last four. He reached a new low last season, striking out 31.8 percent of the time while hitting .167. Odor is unlikely to serve as anything more than a bench option in New York unless he can demonstrate that he's gotten back to his former level.
Mar 29 2021Odor will not be on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor hasn't yet been officially designated for assignment, but that transaction is expected to come soon. The Rangers don't intend to send him to the minor leagues and will instead release him if they can't find a trade partner. It's quite the fall from grace for the 27-year-old, who has three 30-homer seasons under his belt but who has also hit just .197/.268/.433 over the last two years. It's possible he sticks somewhere as a reclamation project, but it would be a surprise if another team views him as an everyday player. Nick Solak will be the Rangers' primary second baseman this season, while Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson line up as the top options at the hot corner.
Mar 28 2021Odor isn't guaranteed a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Manager Chris Woodward was asked after Sunday's spring game whether Odor was going to be on the team's Opening Day roster, and Woodward said, "I can't definitively say that." Odor hit just .167 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI last year and slashed .212/.316/.424 with two home runs and five RBI in 14 spring games in 2021. The 27-year-old will likely serve as the team's primary third baseman if he breaks camp with the team, but Brock Holt would likely start at the hot corner if Odor is kept off the Opening Day roster.
Mar 8 2021Odor started at third base and went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's spring game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor made his third straight start at the hot corner and is looking like he'll be Texas' primary starter at third base. He still needs to fend off challenges from Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson, but Odor has an extra-base hit (one double, two HRs) in all three games as a third baseman.
Mar 7 2021Odor started at third base and went 1-for-2 with a two-run double in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor returned from a one-day absence due to a personal matter and was back to his mission of adjusting to third base. In addition to the double, he made multiple plays at third base including a diving stop to get an out at first base, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. "[Playing third] is not as hard if he's committed to it," manager Chris Woodward said. "I think he's got the skill set to be a third baseman. He's got a skill set, definitely, to play second, but he's got the hands and the footwork and the arm strength to play third base." Odor has played two games at third base this spring, so he's still getting used to the new position.
Mar 6 2021Odor (personal) is starting Saturday's spring game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will return to third base and bat seventh Saturday after he was excused from camp for a personal matter Friday. The 27-year-old should continue his work at third base during spring training.
Mar 5 2021Odor was excused from spring training to return to Texas for personal business, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers are off Friday, and Odor is expected to return Saturday. Upon his return, Odor is expected to continue his work at third base after playing there Wednesday for the first time this spring.
Mar 4 2021Odor started at third base and went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's spring game against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This was Odor's first start at the hot corner, the position he seems most likely to play in 2021. He was scheduled to start at second base but asked manager Chris Woodward before the game to switch positions, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports. "He felt it was important to get out there as soon as possible, which was music to my ears," Woodward said. "I thought it was great, it was good for the team." The Rangers suggested over the offseason that Nick Solak is likely to start at second base, Odor's previous position.
Feb 22 2021Texas manager Chris Woodward said he believes the team would better with Odor at third base and Nick Solak at second base, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rangers are in rebuild mode and informed Odor, who has a 0.1 WAR over the last two seasons, that his role as a starter is not guaranteed. The organization told him to be prepared for work at other positions, namely third base. Odor, who reports to camp Monday, has been off the radar during the offseason, working out privately. "He knows what he's got to do," president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said Sunday. "I'm looking forward to seeing where he's at." Woodward believes second base is Solak's best defensive position and thinks Odor can handle the challenge of third base. However, he will not be handed the job. Odor will be challenged by Brock Holt and Charlie Culberson.
Feb 6 2021Texas general manager Chris Young told MLB Network Radio that Odor could play multiple positions in 2021, Kennedi Landry of the Rangers' official site reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's notoriously poor batting average -- he batted .197 over the last two seasons -- appears to have finally cost him a spot in the everyday lineup. "We're going to try to put him in a lot of different positions," Young said. "We'd like to see him spend some time at second, third, potentially in the outfield a little bit, and just see if and where he's improved, and how during this offseason, he's been able to kind of make the steps and strides that we need to see in terms of the player that we believe he can become." Nick Solak will be given the opportunity to win the starting job at second base, while Odor explores opportunities around the diamond.
Dec 1 2020Odor will move to a utility role if Nick Solak beats him out for the second base job this spring, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The only thing standing in Solak's way is proving he can handle the keystone defensively. Odor has hit .205 or worse in three of the last four seasons, and it seems like the Rangers have run out of patience in the sense that he will no longer be given playing time based on reputation alone. Isiah Kiner-Falefa was announced as the team's starting shortstop Tuesday as well, so Elvis Andrus will also be occupying a utility role. If Solak wins the everyday job at second base, Odor could see time at third base until prospect Josh Jung gets the call.
Sep 27 2020Odor went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, one walk and one strikeout in Sunday's win against the Astros. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor had gone just 1-for-19 over his previous five games, but he had a strong season finale with home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The 26-year-old hit a career-worst .167 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI during the shortened 2020 season.
Sep 23 2020Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The lefty-hitting Odor will bow out of the lineup with southpaw Alex Young on the hill for Arizona. Nick Solak checks in at second base for Odor, who went hitless with four strikeouts in eight at-bats over his last two games.
Sep 20 2020Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's double off Patrick Sandoval drove in Leody Taveras in the third inning. The second baseman later added a solo homer off Ty Buttrey to extend the Rangers' lead to 6-2 in the eighth. The 26-year-old has eight long balls and 24 RBI while hitting .172/.218/.414 on the campaign.
Sep 19 2020Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor quickly gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead in the first inning with his blast off Angels starter Andrew Heaney. That would be Odor's only hit of the game. The second baseman has seven homers, 22 RBI and 12 runs scored, but also carries an anchor-like .161 batting average through 31 contests.
Sep 18 2020Odor is not starting Friday against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor sits after starting eight of the last nine games. He hit just .19 over that stretch, though his three homers helped him to a respectable .769 OPS, dragging his season-long mark up to .559. Nick Solak will be the second baseman Friday.
Sep 13 2020Odor went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 6-3 win over Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor broke a 1-1 tie with his three-run blast in the sixth inning. The 26-year-old has gone deep in three consecutive games, driving in eight runs during that span. He's up to a .570 OPS with 20 RBI this season.
Sep 12 2020Odor went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in a 10-6 loss to Oakland on Friday. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor took T.J. McFarland deep in the eighth inning. It was his first hit since returning from an eye infection Wednesday. Odor is slashing .144/.204/.300 over 98 plate appearances this season.
Sep 9 2020Odor (eye) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and will bat sixth as the second baseman against the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A right eye infection had kept Odor sidelined since late August. He was having an awful time at the plate prior to landing on the injured list, hitting a miserable .150/.198/.287, so the Rangers are reportedly set to give him a smaller role down the stretch.
Sep 7 2020The Rangers are moving away from Odor (eye) and Elvis Andrus as everyday players in the middle infield, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: This should come as no shock to close observers of the organization. Both players have either not produced up to standards at the plate or, in the case of Odor, experienced long slumps. Now, after losing 17 of 20, the Rangers will be evaluating players like Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Anderson Tejeda and Andy Ibanez for spots in the middle. Odor has missed time because of an eye infection, so the team is already getting a look at Tejeda and Nick Solak at the keystone.
Aug 31 2020Odor (eye) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor missed six consecutive games while dealing with a right eye infection, and his trip to the IL will allow him extra time to heal. The 26-year-old will be the starting second baseman once he returns, but Nick Solak could take over at second base in his absence with Leody Taveras seeing increased time in center field.
Aug 30 2020Odor (eye) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor will be on the bench for a fifth straight while he continues to deal with an eye infection. Nick Solak will spell him at the keystone.
Aug 28 2020Odor was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Dodgers with a right eye infection. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was initially slated to make his return to the starting lineup Friday, but he won't be ready to play. Nick Solak will take over at second base in his absence with Leody Taveras starting in center field.
Aug 26 2020Odor (eye) isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was a late scratch Tuesday due to a right eye infection, and he'll sit once again Wednesday. Nick Solak will shift to second base with Leody Taveras starting in center field.
Aug 25 2020Odor was a late scratch Tuesday with a right eye infection, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Yadiel Rivera will take his spot in the lineup. It is unclear whether this will be more than a one-game absence for Odor.
Aug 19 2020Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's loss to San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor kicked off the scoring with a solo home run off Chris Paddack in the second inning. Despite hitting safely across five consecutive games, the 26-year-old is averaging just .180/.242/.361 with three long balls on the season.
Aug 18 2020Odor is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is hitting just .158/.226/.298 this season, though he doesn't appear to be losing much playing time, as he started eight of the last nine games heading into Tuesday's contest. Derek Dietrich starts at second Tuesday.
Aug 17 2020Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Monday's 14-4 loss to San Diego. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor got the Rangers on the board with his two-run double in the fourth inning, but the Rangers were already facing a 7-0 deficit at that point. The 26-year-old second baseman has just eight RBI and a .524 OPS on the year.
Aug 16 2020Odor went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two runs scored Sunday against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor pounced on Jon Gray early, taking him out to right field for his second home run of the season. He had an effective series at Coors Field, going 3-for-10 with three RBI across three games. For the season, Odor is hitting .151/.224/.283 and is in danger of losing playing time to newly-acquired Derek Dietrich.
Aug 15 2020Odor started at second base and went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor, who was held out of the lineup Wednesday, returned to action Friday. Wednesday's fill-in, Derek Dietrich, rapped out three hits, stole a base and scored two runs in a win. That led to speculation that the struggling Odor's absence could be an extended one, but the Rangers continue to extend chances to Odor, who drove in the game-tying run in the seventh inning Friday. "These guys have got to be productive," Texas manager Chris Woodward told Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News. "I've talked to Rougie about that and he understands that, so today, he gets an opportunity to be productive. That's the line." Dietrich, who scored a run as a pinch hitter Friday, is expected to play Saturday and Sunday, although it's not certain if either start will come at second base.
Aug 12 2020Odor is not in Wednesday's lineup against Seattle, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is hitting just .116 with a 3:17 BB:K through 12 games this season, so he'll move to the bench for Thursday's series finale as Derek Dietrich picks up a start at the keystone in his place.
Aug 9 2020Odor started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor, who missed games due to an oblique injury, returned Friday as the designated hitter before playing the field Saturday. Whether he remains the daily starter at second base is open to conjecture. He's 0-for-7 with four strikeouts since returning, dropping his average to .097. The Rangers, who have watched Odor endure long slumps over the years, could use either Anderson Tejeda or Nick Solak to share second base.
Aug 7 2020Odor (oblique) went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's 4-3 win over the Angels. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor did not have a triumphant return to the lineup after missing a week with right oblique tightness. The 26-year-old is hitting .107 with 12 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances this season. Odor may need a couple more games as the designated hitter before returning to his usual second base assignment on defense.
Aug 6 2020Odor (oblique) is not starting Thursday against the Athletics, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is reportedly not expected to land on the injured list, but he'll miss a fourth straight game as he continues to battle a right oblique issue. Anderson Tejeda is making his major-league debut at second base in Odor's stead.
Aug 5 2020Odor (oblique) is not in the lineup Wednesday at Oakland. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old is dealing with a right oblique issue and hasn't seen game action since exiting Saturday's game. The team hopes Odor will be able to return Thursday or Friday, but if he remains unavailable he could end up on the injured list. Nick Solak receives another start at the keystone in his place.
Aug 4 2020Odor (oblique) isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After exiting Saturday's game with an oblique issue, Odor missed Sunday's contest and will remain out Tuesday. It's unclear when he could return to action, but Nick Solak will start at second base and bat second in the series opener against Oakland.
Aug 2 2020Odor (oblique) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor was removed early in Saturday's loss with the oblique injury, but the Rangers don't believe he's dealing with a strain and are optimistic he'll avoid a stint on the injured list, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. The injury is significant enough to keep Odor on the bench for the series finale in San Francisco, however, allowing Nick Solak to pick up a start at the keystone.
Aug 1 2020Odor was removed from Saturday's game at San Francisco with right oblique tightness ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor grounded out during third inning and was replaced in the field for the bottom of the frame. The 26-year-old hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's series finale, but the team may remain cautious with a scheduled off day to follow Monday.
Jul 28 2020Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It was a quintessential Odor performance -- the second baseman struck out three times, but ruined Merrill Kelly's no-hit bid in the seventh inning with his first homer of the year. The 26-year-old fanned a career-high 178 times last season but also reached the 30-HR plateau for the third time, and 2020 figures to be another feast-or-famine display at the plate for Odor.
Jul 25 2020Odor went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts during Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor produced the game-winning RBI during Friday's season opener, but he didn't do much Saturday -- he struck out twice and left three runners on base while recording just one hit. He has hit safely in his first two games of the season, though, and that should be a positive considering he only hit for .205 last season.
Jul 24 2020Odor went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a walk during Friday's 1-0 win over the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor plated the lone run of the game in the sixth inning when his double to center scored Danny Santana -- that was everything the Rangers needed to start the 2020 season with a win. Odor is coming off a strong 2019 season in which he registered 30 homers and 30 doubles as well as 93 RBI.
Jul 10 2020Odor is 6-for-12 with a double, two home runs and two walks over six simulated and intrasquad games, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Ever since last September when Texas management informed Odor he needs to change his plate approach, the second baseman has responded. He finished the 2019 season hitting .263/.340/.632 with nine homers and 26 RBI over the final 26 games. Odor followed up in spring training, going 11-for-31 with two homers and nine RBI in 12 Cactus League games. Despite the success he's achieved since September, Odor will not be given much leeway if he goes through a prolonged slump in 2020.
Jul 2 2020Odor will get less slack if he struggles in the restructured season, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is notorious for long stretches of futility, but Rangers manager Chris Woodward has given the second baseman the time to work through his issues. That changed last September when he was put on notice that his job was in jeopardy if he didn't change his approach. To Odor's credit, he responded with a monster finish to 2019. That hitting continued during spring training before the season was paused, but the luxury of a long leash is not something he'll have in 2020. If Odor slumps, Woodward may replace him with Nick Solak, a hitter looking for a home defensively.
Mar 5 2020Odor went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's spring game against the Rockies. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor continues to mash in the Cactus League, batting .368 with four extra-base hits and a team-high nine RBI. The strong September finish in 2019 has carried over to 2020. His 20 spring plate appearances are among the team leaders, which is odd for an established player at this time of training camp, but it indicates the Rangers are serious to have him establish a consistent plate approach after he batted just .205 last season. It was his second time in three seasons with an average just above the Mendoza Line (.200).
Feb 27 2020Odor went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Thursday's win over the Cubs. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor is off to a flying start this spring, going 5-for-9 with six RBI in three spring games. The Rangers' second baseman feels the work he put in at the end of last season and during the offseason has continued to pay off in spring training. Odor, who teetered on losing his full-time job at times in 2019, posted a .984 OPS with nine home runs in 24 games during September last year.
Sep 28 2019Odor went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a two-RBI double, a stolen base and a walk in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor recorded both his 30th homer and 30th double of the season, and drove in six of the Rangers' nine runs in the game. The second baseman is slashing only .204/.281/.439 this year, but he's tallied a career-high 93 RBI and added 76 runs scored while stealing 11 bases in 20 tries.
Sep 26 2019Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor capped off the Rangers' rally Thursday with a solo home run in the seventh inning, his 29th long ball of the season. While still striking out at a 30.6 percent rate, Odor now has a .231 ISO to match his career-best mark from the 2016 campaign. He's flashed plenty of power of late, recording five extra-base hits across his last 10 starts.
Sep 25 2019Odor went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two walks and a second run scored in Tuesday's 12-10 loss to the Red Sox. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor popped his 28th homer during a game in which the Rangers played catch-up all night after going down by four runs in the top of the first inning. The second baseman, who continues to flirt with a .200 batting average, has picked the right time for his best hitting month. Odor's .954 OPS during September qualifies as a high-water mark for him this season and leaves a positive impression as the Rangers evaluate him for an everyday job in 2020.
Sep 14 2019Odor went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a pair of runs scored and a double in Saturday's 8-6 loss to the Athletics. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor opened the scoring with his homer off Athletics starter Mike Fiers in the second inning. He later got aboard with a double in the eighth and scored on a Jose Trevino for the final run of the game. The second baseman is hitting .333 (15-for-45) with six homers, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 12 games in September. It's a big improvement over his season line of .207/.284/.438 with 27 homers, 81 RBI and 70 runs scored in 133 games.
Sep 12 2019Odor went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's 10-9 win over the Rays. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor's three-run bomb in the eighth inning gave the Rangers a lead they would not relinquish. Odor, whose starting job next season is on the line this month, has hit like someone who wants to remain the starter at second base. He's hitting .325 with four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored over his last 11 games.
Sep 9 2019Odor went 2-for-5 with a home run and a second run scored in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor may be sad to leave Baltimore after the struggling hitter went 7-for-13 with three doubles, two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored over the final three games of the four-game series. Since the Rangers began floating news that Odor's full-time spot in next season's starting lineup was in jeopardy, he's gone 10-for-27 (.370) with seven extra-base hits and seven RBI over the last seven games. Of course, one week does not counter a season-long slump, particularly when five of those seven games have come against teams ranked 27th (Seattle, 5.15 ERA) and 30th (Baltimore, 5.76) in team ERA.
Sep 7 2019Odor went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Orioles. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Odor capped off a six-run first inning with a three-run shot off Aaron Brooks. Manager Chris Woodward recently made it clear that Odor would have to show improvement with his approach in order to secure an everyday job for 2020. Odor has responded well so far, going 8-for-22 with six extra-base hits and five strikeouts in his first six games of September.
Sep 4 2019Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees. ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Despite the fact that the Yankees were using a bullpen day instead of a traditional starter, they still took a shutout into the ninth inning until Odor spoiled it. It was the 25-year-old's first long ball since Aug. 12, and his .113/.232/.155 slash line in the 21 games between homers goes a long way towards explaining why Odor isn't guaranteed a starting job in 2020.
Aug 30 2019Odor will have the month of September to improve his approach at the plate or he risks losing an everyday job next season, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Aug 28 2019Odor is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Angels.
Aug 25 2019Odor's continued struggles at the plate could lead to his starting spot at second base being opened up to competition next season, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning
Aug 14 2019Odor went 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts Tuesday in the Rangers' 3-0 loss to the Blue Jays.
Aug 4 2019Odor went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Tigers.
Jul 27 2019Odor batted second in the order and went 1-for-5 in Friday's 5-2 win over the Athletics.

Jul 22 2018Odor went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-0 win over Cleveland.Odor has been raking since the All-Star break going 8-for-13 with a stolen base in three consecutive games. The hot streak raised his batting average from .239 to .259. Odor ended June with a meager .651 OPS but has brought it to a respectable .735 in 276 plate appearances on the year. It's been a rough year for the 24-year-old after bak-to-back 30-homer seasons, but it's a good sign to see him catching fire.
Jul 21 2018Odor went 2-for-4 with a stolen base Saturday against the Indians.Odor batted second, a rare appearance toward the top of the Rangers' lineup this season. He took advantage by reaching base twice on two singles and stealing his seventh base in 13 attempts this season. While he has swung a hot bat of late -- his average has risen from .234 to .250 since July 7 -- he has hit for surprisingly little power, which is reflected in his .383 slugging percentage through 240 at-bats this season.
Jul 14 2018Odor is out of Saturday's starting lineup against Baltimore.Odor will get a rare day off as he's started every matchup since June 19 against Kansas City. Jurickson Profar is slated to bat fifth and man second base in his stead.
Jul 10 2018Odor went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Red Sox.Odor was having a rough go of things through the first few months of the season, but since having back-to-back days off in mid-June, he is 20-for-67 (.299 average) with four home runs and four stolen bases. Overall he still has work to do in order to improve his .242/.320/.384 slash line, but appears to be trending in the right direction.
Jul 7 2018Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Tigers.Odor took Mike Fiers deep in the sixth inning for his fifth home run of the season. While his numbers remain severely underwhelming, he now has three home runs in his past 10 games and four since June 20. He's also recorded 10 hits in his last 37 at-bats, though he has also struck out 11 times. While it's too early to expect big things from Odor in the second half, this has been the most promising stretch of his season.
Jul 4 2018Odor is not in the lineup against Houston on Wednesday.Odor will receive a breather after starting the past 11 games, during which he hit .302/.375/.512 with three home runs, six RBI and four stolen bases. Jurickson Profar will draw a start at the keystone in his absence.
Jul 4 2018Odor was added to the lineup Wednesday against the Astros after Adrian Beltre was scratched due to an infected tooth. The late addition means Odor will start his 12th straight game. He's hit .302 with three homers and four steals over his past 11 games.
Jul 1 2018Odor went 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base in the Rangers' 10-5 loss to the White Sox on Sunday. It's been a difficult season at the plate thus far for the 24-year-old second baseman, who is still sporting an anemic .241/.316/.361 slash line following this three-hit effort. However, his bat has been showing signs of life in recent weeks, and he's now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. He's been chipping in on the basepaths lately as well, with three of his four steals on the season coming in the last six games. He still can't be deemed fully resurrected to his 2016 form when he posted a .798 OPS, but hopefully Odor can parlay this recent stretch into some more positive momentum going forward.
Jun 27 2018Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Padres.Manager Jeff Banister told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com prior to the game that Odor has been trending in the right direction and that the power stroke would soon follow. Odor made the manager appear prescient when he slugged a leadoff home run in the second inning, his second big fly in the last six games after hitting just one over the first 45. Odor's resurgent bat this month -- he's hitting .260 with a .750 OPS in June -- has prompted Banister to move him up in the batting order. The second baseman has batted fifth or sixth in the last 10 games.
Jun 24 2018Odor went 1-for-3, extending his hitting streak to six games in Sunday's loss to the Twins.Odor extended his hitting streak with a seventh-inning bunt single and is hitting .304 (7-for-23) during his longest such streak of the season. In addition to the hitting streak, Odor has now reached base safely in 12 straight. That bears out in a .365 on-base percentage for the month of June -- his best month in that category since June 2015.
Jun 20 2018Odor (undisclosed) is starting at shortstop and hitting sixth Wednesday against the Royals, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Odor is back in action after being scratched from Tuesday's lineup for an undisclosed reason. The second baseman is hitting .245/.367/.327 across 14 games in June and will look to keep things rolling as he faces Jakob Junis in Wednesday's series finale.
Jun 20 2018Manager Jeff Banister did not comment when asked if the decision to scratch Odor from Tuesday's lineup was related to an incident that resulted in Yohander Mendez abruptly being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Rangers general manager Jon Daniels admitted multiple players were involved to differing degrees in an incident that violated an undisclosed team rule, but chose not to directly comment on Odor. The second baseman denied the idea of being benched following Tuesday's 4-1 win over Kansas City. Odor's removal from the starting lineup, a day after he was given a day off, comes at a time when he's in the midst of his best stretch of the season. Odor has a .367 on-base percentage with seven walks during the month of June, the second-highest walk total in a month during his career.
Jun 19 2018Odor is no longer in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Royals, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. No reason has been given as to why Odor was removed from the starting lineup. Jurickson Profar is now starting at second base, with Isiah-Kiner Falefa entering the lineup as the starting third baseman.
Jun 18 2018Odor is not starting Monday against the Royals, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor will reportedly remain the Rangers' primary starter at second base, though it's not a great sign that Texas' first lineup with Elvis Andrus back from his broken elbow has Jurickson Profar starting at the keystone. The split in playing time should become clearer after the Rangers' next few games.
Jun 18 2018Odor will likely keep his starting job once Elvis Andrus returns from his elbow injury, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor has hit an anemic .217/.292/.309 on the season, posting a 61 wRC+, which exactly matches the figure he recorded in 2017. The low batting average isn't partiuclarly surprising, but he has just one home run in 45 games after hitting 63 over the previous two seasons. Jurickson Profar has been far more effective while filling in for Andrus at shortstop, hitting a solid .243/.315/.456 on the season, but the Rangers owe Odor $43.5 million over the next four seasons, so he's likely to be afforded extra time to prove he can live up to his contract. Profar is likely to start at second occasionally, but Odor will remain the team's primary second baseman.
Jun 6 2018Odor went 2-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Athletics.Odor's multi-hit game was his fifth in the last 11 games, a stretch in which he's batted .316 (12-for-38) and raised his average to a season-high .222. There's still a long way to go for Odor to be fantasy friendly -- his power numbers are way down -- but we have to take a longer term view. Improvement may come gradually and starts with baby steps.
May 30 2018Odor went 1-for-5 with a bases-clearing double in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Mariners.Odor has climbed out of his sub-.200 purgatory with an 8-for-22 stretch over his last six games to raise his season average to .214. That includes three multi-hit efforts and Tuesday's improbable three-run double, which came on a two-strike count, a situation in which Odor had hit .022 (1-for-47) prior to Tuesday. Odor stayed back on a 2-2 slider and delivered an opposite-field hit instead of swinging hard at a pitch regardless of location. It's a small step, one that hopefully reinforces the work he's been putting in to change his approach. "He's been working on it and he's been playing a lot better," manager Jeff Banister told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. "It goes a long way to helping his confidence. A belief system is the key."
May 30 2018Odor is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Mariners, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor will take a seat in place of Hanser Alberto, who's slated to take over at second base and bat ninth.
May 28 2018Odor went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Royals. This was Odor's second multi-hit game in the last three and just the fourth all season. His 4-for-11 stretch over those three games pushed his season average up to .200, its highest point since April 9.
May 22 2018Odor went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 10-5 loss to the Yankees.Odor, who has belted 63 homers over the past two years, hit his first of the 2018 season Monday. It's been a second straight year of decline for the second baseman, who's hitting .174 with a .101 ISO through 21 games. He can fall back on the hamstring injury that cost him a month, but Odor wasn't doing much prior to his stint on the disabled list. While Odor's not the lone slumping hitter on the roster, the Rangers were hoping for a run producer in the middle of the order, not a rally killer in the lower third.
May 13 2018Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.Odor went hitless in struck out in five of his six at-bats since returning from the disabled list Friday, sinking his season line to .175/.261/.225 through 47 plate appearances. After inking a six-year contract extension last March, Odor's everyday role in the middle infield is safe, so his absence Sunday is likely maintenance-related since he's coming off a hamstring injury. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will man second base and hit seventh in the series finale.
May 12 2018Odor went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's 1-0 win over the Astros.Odor returned to the Rangers' lineup after missing 27 games while on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury. He jumped right back into the fire, facing Houston right-hander Justin Verlander, against whom Odor had just one hit in 19 at-bats prior to Friday. Odor told Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News that the hamstring is "100 percent" and expects no limitations going forward.
May 11 2018Odor (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day DL and will start against the Astros on Friday.Odor will hit seventh in the order during his first game back with Texas since April 9. The second baseman appeared in five rehab outings split between Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco, going 3-for-17 with two RBI and experiencing no issues with the hamstring. Odor doesn't typically spend much time on the bench -- he played in all 162 games last season -- but don't be surprised if manager Jeff Banister tries to find a few days off for him in the coming weeks in order to keep the 24-year-old fresh.
May 10 2018Odor (hamstring) will play another rehab game for Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor, who has been on the shelf since April 10 with a hamstring injury, has already appeared in three minor-league rehab games, going 2-for-9 with a walk and a pair of strikeouts. If he gets through Thursday's contest with no issues, the second baseman could be cleared to rejoin the Rangers on Friday. Odor was hitting just .206/.300/.265 before landing on the shelf. His return to action should push Isiah Kiner-Falefa back to a reserve role.
May 9 2018Odor (hamstring) went 1-for-4 for Triple-A Round Rock in the third game of his rehabilitation stint Tuesday. This was the first rehab game at the Triple-A level for Odor, who played a couple of games for Double-A Frisco earlier. He's 2-for-9 with a walk and two strikeouts in his three rehab games. Odor is expected to return to the Rangers' roster at some point this week.
May 7 2018Odor (hamstring) worked out with the Rangers on Monday but will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.Odor was rehabbing with Double-A Frisco but didn't travel with the team Sunday, so his presence with the Rangers seemed to suggest that his rehab stint was about to end. Instead, he'll merely be shifting his rehab from Frisco to Round Rock, so he's still seemingly at least a few days away from returning to big-league action.
May 7 2018Odor (hamstring) was spotted fielding grounders Monday ahead of the Rangers' game against the Tigers, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor had played two rehab games for Double-A Frisco but did not remain with the minor-league club after it left town for a road trip Sunday. That seems to signal that he's nearing a return to action for the Rangers, who could certainly use him, as fellow infielders Elvis Andrus (elbow) and Adrian Beltre (hamstring) are both still on the disabled list.
May 4 2018Odor (hamstring) worked out prior to Thursday's game and is far enough into the recovery process that he could begin a rehabilitation assignment next week, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor, who has not played since April 10, did some light jogging, fielded grounders and took batting practice Thursday. While he's been out, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Drew Robinson have held down second base.
May 4 2018Odor (hamstring) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Saturday.Odor will serve as designated hitter Saturday for the Roughriders. The 24-year-old has been on the disabled list since April 10 with a strained left hamstring and the expected length of the rehab assignment remains unclear, although the Rangers are likely to want him to have some work in the field before he returns to the majors.
May 1 2018Odor (hamstring) took batting practice and fielded groundballs Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Monday's activities comes on the heels of Odor doing some light jogging over the weekend, as the second basemen took another step in his recovery. The next step will be sprinting followed by a possible rehabilitation stint. The Rangers aren't expecting him back until sometime next week.
Apr 29 2018Odor (hamstring) has been doing some jogging around the arc of the infield lately, but has yet to receive clearance for sprinting exercises, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. With Odor still not cleared to run at full speed after being shut down April 9 with the left hamstring strain, it appears safe to conclude that he won't come off the disabled list in the three weeks the Rangers initially set as the low end for his recovery timetable. Once Odor is able to more intense running to his regimen, he should be able to perform most baseball activities and therefore begin a rehab assignment soon after. The Rangers will get by with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Drew Robinson as their primary options at the keystone until Odor is ready to return from the DL.
Apr 24 2018Odor (hamstring) has started taking grounders from a stationary position, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor is starting to perform some activity, but has not began any running. It's been exactly two weeks since the Rangers placed him on the disabled list, and it's looking like he'll need at least one more. In the meantime, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is getting regular duty at second base.
Apr 23 2018Odor (hamstring) worked on agility drills Monday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor went down with a strained hamstring two weeks ago and is already eligible to be activated from the disabled list, though he doesn't seem to be on the brink of a return. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will remain the starter at second base while Odor is unavailable.
Apr 20 2018Odor (hamstring) has not yet returned to running, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Odor suffered the hamstring strain April 9 and the Rangers initially expected him to miss at least three weeks. An April return seems extremely unlikely for the 24-year-old given his lack of progression, leaving Isiah Kiner-Falefa to fill in at second base with Jurickson Profar at shortstop for Elvis Andrus (elbow).
Apr 10 2018Odor is undergoing an MRI on his hamstring Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Odor left Monday's game against the Angels with a hamstring injury. The Rangers expect him to miss some time, though a timetable won't become clear until after the MRI results are disclosed. Jurickson Profar is expected to start at second base while Odor remains out.
Apr 10 2018Odor (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.Odor suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's series opener against the Angels, and the issue remains bothersome enough to keep him sidelined Tuesday. The 24-year-old was sent for an MRI, so the severity of the issue should clear up once the results are disclosed. In the meantime, Jurickson Profar is starting at second base and hitting second, and would likely continue to do so if Odor is forced to miss any additional time.
Apr 10 2018Odor (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Odor sustained a left hamstring strain in Monday's loss to the Angels, exiting after earning a walk in the bottom of the first inning. The 24-year-old was sent to undergo an MRI earlier Tuesday, but the severity of the strain remains unclear. Jurickson Profar will start at second base Tuesday and should continue to see additional opportunities in Odor's absence.
Apr 10 2018Manager Jeff Banister thinks Odor (hamstring) is expected to miss some time, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers are withholding any comment as to whether Odor will require a stay on the disabled list, but the fact that it's being contemplated is not a good sign. Minor League infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who is on the 40-man roster, was pulled from his game at Triple-A Round Rock as a precaution shortly after Odor's injury. In the meantime, Jurickson Profar is expected to start at second base until Odor is ready to play.
Apr 9 2018Odor was diagnosed with a strained left hamstring after leaving Monday's game against the Angels. The Rangers plan on evaluating Odor's hamstring again Tuesday, at which point the severity of the second baseman's injury should become clear. If Odor is forced to miss an extended period of time, look for Jurickson Profar to fill in at second base, although Drew Robinson could also be an option at the keystone.
Apr 9 2018Odor left during the first inning of Monday's game against the Angels with a hamstring injury, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. At this point in time consider Odor to be day-to-day, although more information regarding the severity of his ailment should surface as the team evaluates him further. After Odor's exit, Jurickson Profar entered the game. Prior to leaving, Odor had drawn a walk in his single plate appearance.
Apr 8 2018Odor hit second in the order for the second straight game Sunday and went 1-for-3 in a 7-4 loss to Toronto.Odor had been languishing at the bottom of the order, but was moved up when manager Jeff Banister ended his experiment of having Joey Gallo hit second. Over the long run, hitting at the top of the order means more plate appearances for Odor, however, that might not be too valuable given his .206 average. The silver lining is that Odor has hit safely in four of the last five games, going 6-for-18 (.333) over that stretch.
Apr 5 2018Odor (hand) is back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against Oakland, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor was held out of Wednesday's contest due to an apparent hand injury that he sustained during Tuesday's contest, but the 24-year-old will return to the lineup for the series finale. It doesn't seem like Odor will face any limitations as he's back at the keystone and hitting sixth for Thursday's contest.
Apr 4 2018Odor went 2-for-4 with two run-producing singles in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Athletics. It's been a slow start for Odor, who snapped an 0-for-15 slide with Tuesday's hits, which also knocked in his first runs of the season. He continues to work on a better approach, finding that one good pitch to drive, but it's a work-in-progress. A downside in his attempt to become a better hitter, he may be trying to do too much. He was caught stealing twice Tuesday and was picked off after his only other hit. There will be good nights and stretches of futility. The Rangers are committed to getting him right.
Apr 4 2018Odor was seen following Tuesday's game with a heavy wrap on his left hand, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.A possible injury puts a whole new spin on the Odor being held out of the lineup Wednesday, which could end Odor's streak of 170 consecutive games played.
Apr 4 2018Odor is not in the lineup Wednesday against Oakland.Odor will head to the bench after starting the Rangers' first six games of the regular season. During that span, he's just 3-for-20 with three RBI, two walks and five strikeouts. In his place, Jurickson Profar draws a start at the keystone.
Mar 30 2018Odor went 1-for-2 with a walk while batting eighth in the order in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Astros.Odor's dismal 2017 season (.204/.252/.397) precipitated a drop to the eighth spot in the batting order to open 2018. The second baseman made improving his plate approach a focus this spring, but his Cactus League results were mixed at best. Putting together batter at-bats will be on-going process, and seeing him draw a walk Opening Day was encouraging. He's got a powerful that should be hitting up in the lineup, but not if he's a rally killer.
Mar 26 2018Odor went 11-for-57 (.193 average) with 17 strikeouts and five walks during 20 appearances in the Cactus League. The ugly numbers aren't a reassuring sign after Odor hit just .204/.252/.397 across 651 plate appearances in 2017, netting him a 61 wRC+ that made him the worst qualified hitter in baseball. Odor was far better from a fantasy standpoint thanks to his 30 home runs and 15 stolen bases, but it's worth wondering if he'll face a shorter leash on an everyday role this season if he fails to make notable progress with his batting line. Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that manager Jeff Banister recently dismissed the notion of anyone other than Odor seeing regular time at the keystone this season, so at least for the time being, Jurickson Profar shouldn't be viewed as an immediate threat to Odor's full-time gig.
Mar 11 2018Odor snapped an 0-for-12 stretch with a leadoff single in Saturday's game against Oakland. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. As promised, Odor has adopted a different approach at the plate. One that emphasizes protecting the plate and laying off bad pitches with two strikes. During his first at-bat Saturday, he fell behind 1-and-2, evened the count, fouled off a pitch, and then lined an opposite field single. Later in the game, with a runner on third and none out, he fell behind 0-and-2 before grounding out to first to drive in the run. That productive out was another good sign. A year ago, Odor drove in a runner from third with less than two outs eight times in 21 attempts (38 percent), well below the AL average of 51 percent. Of course, these are anecdotal incidents in a spring-training game. We need to see Odor consistently put up good at-bats and improve the .204 batting average he foisted on his fantasy owners last season.
Feb 27 2018Odor is adjusting his approach at the plate over spring training in an attempt to reduce his number of strikeouts, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.Odor had a brutal 2017 season and posted a .204/.252/.397 line, with each mark being the lowest of his career. His primary issue was the frequency at which he struck out, as he was fanned in 24.9 percent of his plate appearances. As a result, the Rangers are having Odor look for one ideal pitch during his Cactus League at-bats, before shifting his focus to protecting the plate if the count reaches two strikes. Prior to 2017, the 24-year-old's batting average had been at least .259 in each of his first three seasons, so it's not too late for Odor's performance to trend in the right direction.
Sep 29 2017Odor is still nursing a left ankle injury he sustained in a collision with teammate Nomar Mazara in a Sept. 10 contest and may be limited to bench duties for the Rangers' final three games of the season, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. For just the second time all season, Rangers manager Jeff Banister omitted Odor from the starting lineup in Thursday's loss to the Athletics, allowing Drew Robinson to pick up a start at the keystone. Considering that the Rangers are eliminated from postseason contention, there's little reason for the team to ask a gimpy Odor to play the field at this point, but it appears that he'll still see use as a pinch hitter during the final three games. Odor, who grounded out in his pinch-hit appearance Thursday, has appeared in some capacity in all 159 of the Rangers' games to date and is seeking to become the first Texas player since Michael Young and Mark Teixeira in 2006 to suit up in all 162 contests. Odor is hitting .121 over his last 36 games to drop his season mark to .203, last among all qualified hitters in the American League.
Sep 29 2017Odor (ankle) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the A's.It was reported Friday morning that Odor's ankle injury would likely limit him to pinch-hit duty the rest of the way, but he is apparently feeling good enough to assume his customary spot at second base Friday night. He will hit seventh against A's starter Raul Alcantara.
Sep 28 2017Odor is not in the lineup against the A's on Thursday.Odor will head to the bench yet again as he remains in a prolonged slump at the plate, going just 4-for-50 during the last 18 games. In his place, Drew Robinson draws a start at the keystone.
Sep 21 2017Odor went 1-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Mariners. The blast was his 30th of the year, capping a seven-run fourth inning that fueled the Rangers win and brought then to 2.5 games back of the Twins for the second wild-card spot in the AL. Odor hasn't had a multi-hit performance since Sept. 8, going a brutal 4-for-33 (.121) over his last 11 games, but at least three of his four hits during that stretch have gone for extra bases (one double and two homers).
Sep 18 2017Odor went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Angels. In what's seemingly been a recurring theme this season, Odor is in the midst of another prolonged offensive dry spell, as Sunday's hitless effort leaves him with a 2-for-26 mark at the plate over his last nine contest. A .227 BABIP has certainly hurt Odor's cause, but a career-worst 24.5 percent strikeout rate and an almost 100-point decline in slugging percentage from the year prior suggests that bad luck alone is not at the root of the second baseman's disappointing season. Odor is probably still worth keeping active in most formats thanks to his strong counting-stats production (29 home runs, 14 steals), but a .208 average has kept him out of the upper tier of fantasy performers at his position.
Sep 15 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Thursday's 10-4 loss to the Mariners.Odor plated the Rangers' first run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning and later connected on a three-run blast in the seventh, when the Mariners were in full control of the contest. It was the 29th long ball of the season for Odor, putting him well in reach of the career-high 33 he smacked in 2016. Odor looks on track to match or surpass most of his contributions in the major counting-stats categories from the season prior, but a nearly 60-point drop in batting average has resulted in a steep downturn in his overall fantasy value.
Sep 11 2017Odor (ankle) is in the lineup Monday against the Mariners, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. It was known that the ankle sprain Odor incurred Sunday was mild, but the Rangers' second baseman won't need to miss any time as he's starting and hitting eighth Monday night. He'll look to improve his season-long struggles at the plate, as Odor enters Monday's outing with a .213/.256/.412 line.
Sep 10 2017Odor suffered a "mild" left ankle sprain Sunday, and X-rays were negative. He'll be re-evaluated Monday. It looks as if he's dodged a significant injury, but Odor probably will need time to rest. Fantasy players in weekly lineups may have enough time to decide whether to start him if his medical news is publicized soon enough.
Sep 10 2017Odor (undisclosed) left Sunday's game with an injury sustained while in the field, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Wilson said outfielder Nomar Mazara "swept" Odor's legs during a fielding attempt, which is what prompted Odor's exit. Drew Robinson is taking Odor's place at second base, and the Rangers should update the injury as more details are known.
Sep 9 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 11-5 win over the Yankees.Odor's two-run triple in the seventh inning put the finishing touches on another strong showing by the Rangers offense, which leads the majors in home runs (219) on the season and ranks third in wRC+ (112) since the All-Star break. The strong contributors ahead of him in the lineup has helped prevent Odor from noticing significant declines in his run and RBI production from a year ago, despite his on-base percentage plummeting nearly 40 points to a career-worst .257 mark in 2017.
Sep 5 2017Odor went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs in Monday's 8-2 win over the Braves.Odor two-run shot in the fifth inning was his 28th of the season, putting him well on track to crack 30 for the second straight year. A drastic decline in batting average and RBI has sunk Odor's value relative to his breakout 2016 campaign, but his strong home-run and stolen-base (14) totals have still made him a viable starting option in most fantasy formats.
Sep 4 2017Odor went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Angels.Odor has managed only two hits over his last five games, dropping his average to .211 for the season. The lack of consistent hits wouldn't be as major of an issue if Odor could demonstrate a modicum of plate discipline, but a 4.2 percent walk rate has saddled him with a career-worst .252 on-base percentage. Though he's been an easy out for much of the season, Odor doesn't look to be in any immediate danger of losing his everyday role, and is still worth keeping active for fantasy owners aiming to make up ground in the counting stats categories.
Aug 30 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with a double, two runs and a stolen base in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Astros. While Odor's stat sheet wasn't completely blank, he was one of the lower-impact performers on a night the Rangers' offense went wild. On the heels of a hot stretch in mid-August, the second baseman has fallen into yet another slump over his last eight games, mustering only three hits in 32 at-bats to sink his season average to .215. The constant crests and troughs in productivity at the plate have made Odor a maddeningly player to own, but fortunately for fantasy owners, his counting stats haven't taken too much of a hit. The stolen base Tuesday leaves him one shy of matching last season's career high of 14, and he's right on pace to hit 33 home runs for the second straight campaign.
Aug 26 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a double in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Athletics. It's the 16th double of the campaign for Odor, putting him well of the pace of matching the career-high 33 two-baggers he delivered in 2016. An uptick in strikeout rate along with a .234 BABIP have dragged down Odor's batting line this season, but despite the significant drop in his slugging percentage, he hasn't sacrificed much home-run production. With 27 long balls on the season, Odor is on his way toward reaching the 30-homer plateau for the second time in as many seasons.
Aug 20 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk Sunday against the White Sox.Odor's two-run blast off new White Sox closer Juan Minaya ended up being too little too late in this 3-2 loss. The second baseman has now hit 17 of his 27 home runs at Globe Life Park in Arlington. He's right on pace to match last season's 33 long balls, but has seen his batting average drop from .271 to .223.
Aug 19 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Saturday's 17-7 win over the White Sox.He sent Derek Holland to the showers with his three-run shot in the third, and Odor touched up Dylan Covey for a solo shot the following inning. The 23-year-old now has five multi-homer games this season and three since the All-Star break, putting him on pace to clear 30 for the second straight season. Odor has also added a few steals recently after going 37 games without a stolen base.
Aug 17 2017Odor went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Wednesday's 12-6 win over the Tigers.Odor has reached base at least twice in each of the past four games, a welcome development for fantasy owners after the second baseman had logged an .094 on-base percentage over his prior nine contests. The 23-year-old has had brief offensive surges at various points throughout the season only to see his production crater just as quickly, so despite his recent success, Odor probably can't be counted on to keep sizzling at the plate over the final six-plus weeks of the campaign.
Aug 15 2017Odor went 3-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs in Monday's 6-2 win over the Tigers. The run, hit and steal totals all tied season highs for Odor, who has reached base five times in the last two games alone. That won't completely absolve Odor from his deep struggles prior to that, as he's still hitting a pathetic .205/.222/.318 in August in spite of his strong production of late.
Aug 14 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Astros.Odor's two hits equaled his total from the Rangers' previous nine games combined, during which he needed 31 at-bats to achieve the feat. The second baseman's homer barrage to conclude July seemed to signal a breakthrough from his season-long slumber, but a rough start to August has halted his momentum and squelched most hope fantasy owners had of Odor bouncing back in the second half.
Aug 9 2017Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.A hitless performance in the series opener Tuesday leaves Odor with a 2-for-22 mark at the plate over his last six contests, so manager Jeff Banister will give the second baseman a day off to rest and clear his head. Odor appeared to be in some pain after fouling a ball of his foot during one of his at-bats Tuesday, but Banister reiterated that the 23-year-old is feeling fine and is being held out of the lineup strictly for maintenance purposes, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Drew Robinson will cover the keystone in Odor's stead.
Aug 9 2017Odor went 0-for-3 and reached base after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Mets.Odor provided fantasy owners with hope that he'd begin to go on a tear over the final two months after slugging four home runs over a three-game span from July 30 to Aug. 1, but in the subsequent six contests, he's instead fallen into a 2-for-22 drought. With 24 home runs on the season, Odor is still on track to make a run at matching his career high of 33, but his base hits and doubles totals are well behind his 2016 paces, which has left him with an unsavory .216/.254/.418 batting line. A .228 BABIP is certainly a culprit behind Odor's offensive downturn, but even if he veers closer to his .278 career mark, the 23-year-old probably won't be in store for a drastic turnaround in batting average.
Aug 2 2017Odor went 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Mariners. It's his fourth homer in the last three games and seventh in his last nine, as Odor tries to make up for his disappointing first half. He's slashing .342/.375/.921 with 11 runs and 13 RBI over that nine-game hot streak, and fantasy GMs who stuck with him -- or were able to pick him up at a bargain price while he was struggling -- are now reaping the rewards.
Aug 1 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Mariners.Odor's .220 average remains an eyesore, but the 23-year-old has at least turned on the power of late to help salvage what's been a disappointing season through the first four months. The home run -- Odor's 23rd of the season -- was his sixth in the Rangers' last eight games.
Jul 30 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Orioles. After going 0-for-19 during a five-game stretch in mid-July, Odor has bounced back to some extent, but is still only hitting .256 since July 18. Due to his free-swinging approach at the plate, Odor seems likely to remain a batting-average risk the rest of the season, even with some expected correction in his .235 BABIP. The power Odor brings from the second-base spot is still quite valuable, however, so fantasy owners will have to decide for themselves if the need to make up ground in the home-run category is worth the potential hit that would likely come in batting average by keeping him active.
Jul 30 2017Odor went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Orioles.Odor put on quite the show in garbage time, launching both of his homers in the final four innings after Baltimore had raced out to a 10-2 lead. They all count the same for fantasy purposes, so Odor's owners will take his second multi-homer effort in the past seven games any way they can get it. The second baseman also picked up two RBI on a fourth-inning single back when the game was competitive.
Jul 30 2017Odor went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and five RBI in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Orioles.Odor put on quite the show in garbage time, launching both of his home runs in the final four innings after Baltimore had raced out to a 10-2 lead. They all count the same for fantasy purposes, so Odor's owners will take his second multi-homer effort in the past seven games any way they can get it. The second baseman also picked up two RBI on a fourth-inning single back when the game was competitive.
Jul 25 2017Odor went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Tuesday's 10-4 win over Miami. He's posted two multi-hit efforts in the last three games, cranking three homers in that time. This season has been a trial for Odor, who's been whiffing at a career-high rate, leading to a career-worst batting average that's been sitting just north of the Mendoza Line for a while (now .215). However, he's still managed to provide fantasy value by contributing in other categories -- most notably his 20 homers and nine steals.
Jul 24 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Rays.Odor was the central figure in the Rangers' come-from-behind victory, as he followed up his solo blast in the second inning with a two-run job in the eighth inning to tie the score. Despite underwhelming fantasy owners this season, Odor still ranks tied for second among all second baseman in baseball with 19 long balls following his sixth career multi-homer game. The breakthrough performance Sunday also ended a rough start to the second half for Odor, who had gone 4-for-34 at the dish over the preceding nine contests.
Jul 17 2017Odor went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.Though Odor saw his 10-game hitting streak come to an end in the final contest before the All-Star break, fantasy owners were given reason for optimism about the second baseman's rest-of-season outlook after a dreadful first half. Odor has reverted to his slumping ways coming out of the break, however, as he failed to record a hit in 11 at-bats during the three-game series with the Royals, dropping his season average to .213. In light of the production Odor had provided the past two seasons along with the power surge he enjoyed earlier in the month, some patience is still advised with the 23-year-old, but expecting a major bounce back in the second half may be wishful thinking.
Jul 8 2017Odor went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 10-0 rout of the Angels. He's on an absolute tear at the moment, clubbing five homers with eight RBI and 10 runs in his last seven games while compiling a .417/.481/1.042 slash line. Odor's overall numbers remain far below expectations, but he seems poised to reward patient fantasy GMs with a big second half.
Jul 7 2017Odor (hand) is in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Angels, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Tribune reports.Odor exited Wednesday's game with a left hand contusion, but used Thursday's off day to recover prior to the series against Los Angeles. He will play in his normal spot at second while batting fifth in the order, and should be fully capable for the final series before the All-Star break.
Jul 5 2017Odor was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox with a left hand contusion, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor was hit by a pitch on his left wrist in the fifth inning, and he was initially able to stay in the game for another inning before ultimately giving way to Pete Kozma at the keystone. The good news is that initial X-rays came back negative, but he'll likely head for more testing Thursday in hopes of confirming the early diagnosis. He'll be listed as day-to-day for now.
Jul 4 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with a solo home run during Monday's loss to Boston.Odor is sporting a modest six-game hitting streak with three homers, five RBI, two stolen bases and four runs. His .213/.251/.395 slash line is way below expectations, but the second baseman has buoyed his fantasy value by tilting the scales across the counting stats: 15 bombs, 36 RBI, 41 runs and nine stolen bases. It's going to take more than a six-game stretch to show improvement in his line, but he's capable of going on a heater, and Globe Life Park in Arlington is a cushy hitting environment in the summer.
Jul 2 2017Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. With home runs in consecutive games, Odor looks like he might be starting to hit his stride, but that won't prevent manager Jeff Banister from giving the second baseman the day off in what was likely a pre-planned decision. Pete Kozma will handle the keystone as Odor sits out for the first time all season.
Jul 1 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and two runs Saturday against the White Sox.Odor cranked out his 14th bomb of the year as part of a 10-run assault the Rangers put on the White Sox. Aside from his solid home run total, he's been a weak fantasy option, as evidenced by his .211/.249/.387 slash line.
Jun 29 2017Odor went 1-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases -- his eighth and ninth of the season -- in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Indians.Odor owns a career success rate of just 56.8 percent, but that hasn't prompted the Rangers coaching staff to put the kibosh on the second baseman's aggressiveness on the basepaths. Perhaps as a byproduct of his porous on-base and slugging percentage, Odor has tried to make up for it by running more than ever when he does reach base safely. His 13 steal attempts put him well on pace to smash last season's career-high total of 21.
Jun 26 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a steal in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Yankees. The stolen base salvaged what was otherwise another forgettable game for Odor, who struck out three times on the afternoon, marking the fourth time this season he's reached that benchmark. A career-worst 23.7 percent strikeout rate coupled with a steep drop in BABIP has fueled the 23-year-old's dreadful season, and unfortunately for fantasy owners that have stayed patient with him throughout, he's shown few signs of breaking out of the slump. Odor has gone 4-for-33 with one walk over his last eight games.
Jun 23 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with a run in Thursday's 11-4 win over the Blue Jays. After turning in three multi-hit efforts during a five-game stretch last week, Odor was rewarded with a move back to the No. 5 spot in the batting order, but he hasn't been able to maintain his performance. Over the Rangers' last five games, Odor has accrued just three hits in 21 at-bats, dropping his season average back to .215. The 23-year-old hasn't been a total zero in the counting-stats categories with 12 home runs, 31 RBI and six steals, but fantasy owners were surely counting on more from Odor coming off a breakout 33-homer campaign.
Jun 18 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mariners.Odor has been one of the season's biggest disappointments relative to where he went in fantasy drafts, but he's finally starting to deliver returns for those who stayed patient with him. Over his last eight games, Odor has gone 11-for-33 (.333 average) with four home runs, seven RBI and seven runs. It's not all coming up roses for Odor -- he's still struck out 10 times and hasn't walked during that stretch -- but the increased pop is a encouraging sign after he submitted a lackluster .604 OPS leading up to the surge.
Jun 13 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 6-1 win over the Astros.Odor had served as the Rangers' No. 5 hitter in the team's previous game Sunday against the Nationals, but he was back down to the No. 7 spot Monday with manager Jeff Banister electing to move Delino DeShields and Jonathan Lucroy ahead of the second baseman in the batting order. The 23-year-old responded with his second two-hit effort in four games, but he'll likely need to remain productive over a longer stretch before reclaiming a more prominent lineup spot. Odor's .251 on-base percentage on the season ranks 164th out of 167 qualified hitters.
Jun 13 2017Odor went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI against the Astros on Tuesday. It's been a tough season for Odor, but his last eight games have offered his fantasy owners fresh hope, as he's bashed four homers while hitting .324 (11-for-34) in that span. The young second baseman's BABIP is still awfully depressed at .245, and aside from an alarming tendency toward pop-ups, his batted-ball stats imply that he's been hit with some bad luck. Odor may not pull his batting average up to last year's .271 -- it's currently .219 -- but that's no reason to ignore his fantasy-friendly power-speed combo, and he remains keeper-league gold at just 23 years old.
Jun 10 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-2 win over the Nationals. The homer was his second in four games and ninth of the season, but the multi-hit performance was his first since May 23. Odor's .209/.252/.368 slash line is well below expectations but his .236 BABIP is also 61 points below last year's mark, offering hope of a turnaround if the 23-year-old can build some confidence at the plate.
Jun 4 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Astros. It's been a dreadful season for Odor, and his performance Saturday may have been one of his worst. Odor's first three strikeouts all came with runners in scoring position, which proved quite costly in a game decided by one run. Manager Jeff Banister has been unwavering in his faith thus far in Odor, who is batting .203/.249/.338 for the campaign, but it may not be long before the Rangers bench boss considers dropping the second baseman down from the No. 5 spot in the order.
Jun 4 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-2 loss to Houston.Odor was the first Ranger to get to Houston starter Brad Peacock, taking a 3-2 changeup to right field for his eighth home run of the season. Odor has really scuffled lately, and his power numbers have fallen off as well. He has just two home runs in his last 27 games, hitting .213 with 26 strikeouts during that stretch. Odor hit 33 home runs last year, so has he has great power potential, but right now he's in a prolonged slump.
Jun 4 2017Odor will start and second base and bat seventh Sunday against the Astros.Manager Jeff Banister has maintained patience with Odor amid the second sacker's season-long malaise, as the 23-year-old has appeared in each of the Rangers' 56 games. Odor will continue to start in the series finale, but after going 1-for-5 with four strikeouts Saturday -- all of which came with runners on base --
May 30 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a base hit and a sacrifice fly in Monday's 10-8 loss to the Rays.It was a quiet night for Odor in a game in which several players on both sides went wild at the plate, but his fifth-inning single nonetheless extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. However, with Odor recording multiple hits only once during that stretch, he's been unable to dramatically raise his batting average, which still sits at a disappointing .211 for the season. A .237 BABIP suggests that Odor is still capable of noticing more recovery in the batting-average department, but his chances of reemerging as an elite source of power at second base seem less promising. His ISO has dropped more than 80 points from a season ago, and he's sitting on a 10.1 percent HR/FB rate. That rate is only 2.6 percentage points below his career mark, suggesting he hasn't been robbed of too many round trippers.
May 26 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk Friday against the Blue Jays.Odor's seventh bomb of the year came in the ninth inning to pull the Rangers within one run of a losing effort. He's been a disappointment for fantasy owners with his .208/.262/.365 slash line, but fantasy owners will be hoping his big blast will get him started on a hot streak.
May 26 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox.Despite establishing a new season-high with three strikeouts, Odor was still the most productive member of the bottom half of the Rangers lineup, as the Nos. 6 through 9 hitters combined to go 0-for-13 with 11 strikeouts. Odor has recorded hits in eight of his last nine games, but since he only recorded multiple hits in one of those contests, he's batting just .250 over that stretch.
May 15 2017Odor failed to record a hit in three at-bats during Sunday's 6-4 win over the Athletics, but came around to score on a walk and stole his fourth base of the season.Though Odor owns a mediocre 52.8 percent success rate on steal attempts for his career, the Rangers haven't discouraged the second baseman from running when the opportunity presents itself. Odor has attempted one steal in four straight games, converting each of his last three tries. While anything Odor offers as a base stealer is certainly a nice bonus, fantasy owners will need the 23-year-old to show significant improvement with his batting average and slugging in order for him to justify his exorbitant draft-day price.
May 13 2017Odor went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, a stolen base and a run in Friday's 5-2 win over the Athletics.Odor has never been held in high esteem for his plate discipline, but in drawing two free passes Friday, he's already nearly halfway to last season's total of 19 walks. Even so, Odor's 5.2 percent walk rate still leaves a lot to be desired, and that coupled with his bad luck on balls in play has kept his on-base percentage at an ugly .258 this season. Since Odor's hard-contact rate is roughly in line with his mark from 2016, he should be in line for some correction in his batting average, but another season with a sub-.300 OBP still seems likely.
May 11 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over San Diego. His ninth-inning RBI single tied the game at two before Mike Napoli won it with a walk-off homer. It was the second multi-hit effort in three games for Odor, who could finally be starting to see his luck turn for the better with a .217 BABIP.
May 10 2017Odor went 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs in Tuesday's 11-0 win over the Padres. In spite of the two-hit effort, Odor's batting average still remains below the Mendoza Line for the season, and his on-base percentage sits at just .238. The Rangers don't have any players on their bench who could make a serious run at displacing Odor as the everyday second baseman, so manager Jeff Banister should give Odor every opportunity to break out of his season-long slump.
May 6 2017Odor smacked his sixth homer of the season and drove in two runs in Friday's 3-1 win over the Mariners in 13 innings. The home run was Odor's only hit of the evening, but his blast to right field in the top of the 13th inning held up as the difference in a game where both sides pitched well. With long balls in consecutive games, Odor remains on pace for a second straight 30-homer campaign, but that won't be of much consolation to fantasy owners if he fails to see a dramatic recovery in his batting average, which currently sits at .195 for the season.
May 4 2017Odor went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in Wednesday's 10-1 loss to the Astros.Odor was also caught stealing in the blowout loss, bringing his success rate on the basepaths down to 1-for-4 on the season. The second baseman is just 25-for-49 (51%) for his career, so it wouldn't be surprising if manager Jeff Banister implores Odor to scale back his aggressiveness as a runner, which may make it difficult for him to reach the 14 steals he accumulated in 2016. The drop in proficiency on the bases is less of a concern for fantasy owners that Odor's production at the plate, where he's noticed an even more substantial decline this season. He's slashing a meager .194/.243/.361 over 115 plate appearances, though he should at least see his batting average climb a bit once his .215 BABIP veers closer to his .287 career mark.
Apr 29 2017Odor blasted his fourth home run of the season to power the Rangers to a 6-3 victory over the Angels on Saturday. The young second baseman dealt the final blow in a rough fifth inning for Angels starter Jesse Chavez, belting a 1-2 offering into the right-field bleachers. This is a step in the right direction for Odor, as he had been batting just .154 over the past week prior to Saturday night's contest, although his OPS still sits at a relatively disappointing .618 mark.
Apr 27 2017Odor went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 14-3 win over the Twins.Odor reached base a season-high four times in the blowout victory, as he walked and was hit by a pitch in addition to supplying a pair of singles. While he turned in a respectable night for season-long and DFS owners, Odor will need to step up his contributions in the power department in order to justify his lofty preseason expectations. He's sitting on a .618 OPS through 91 plate appearances, 180 points below his mark from 2016.
Apr 25 2017Odor went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Twins.Since collecting two homers and a double in the first four games of the season, Odor has been stuck in an extended power outage. He hasn't homered in his past 16 starts and has collected just nine hits in 63 at-bats over that span, with only three going for extra bases. Odor doesn't draw enough walks to compensate when the hits aren't falling in, so his run totals could remain a bit depressed until the power shows up again.
Apr 17 2017Odor went 1-for-5 with a double and a run during Sunday's loss to Seattle. At first glance, it hasn't been a standout start for the second baseman, but don't let the .208 batting average hide his solid .479 slugging percentage and six extra-base hits. Odor is never going to post a high on-base percentage or game-changing batting average, but it's the counting stats you're really after. Remain patient with the 23-year-old slugger. He's hitting in the heart of a potent lineup and offers huge cross-category upside.
Apr 3 2017Odor went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in an Opening Day loss to the Indians on Monday. That's certainly the way you'd like to start your season. Odor, just 23, is an exciting young player with a nice power-speed combination. His high flyball rates will continue to make him a 30-homer candidate, but his low walk rates and free-swinging ways make him a volatile fantasy asset.
Mar 25 2017Odor agreed to a six-year, $49.5 million extension with the Rangers on Saturday, FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports. The deal includes an option for a seventh year.Odor, who hit 33 home runs last year, was set to be arbitration eligible in 2018 and a free agent in 2021, but he will now be locked in until after the 2022 season. According to Heyman's report, Odor's camp had been focused on the six-year, $51 million deal Jason Kipnis agreed to with the Indians three years ago, and they came close to matching that number. Odor is one of the top fantasy second baseman, not only for single-season leagues, but for dynasty and keeper leagues as well.
Mar 22 2017Odor has gone 0-for-5 with a run scored and a strikeout in two games since returning from the World Baseball Classic. The 22-year-old is sitting Wednesday with Drew Robinson filling in at the keystone. Odor turned in a strong showing for Team Venezuela, going 5-for-19 with a double, two homers, four RBI and three strikeouts, after hitting safely in five straight Cactus League games to begin spring training. He's locked in as the Rangers' everyday second baseman.
Oct 2 2016Odor is out of Sunday's lineup against the Rays, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Although Odor is healthy after getting hit in the shin Saturday night, he'll still have Sunday off. Jurickson Profar will start at second in place of Odor when the Rangers go up against Chase Whitley.
Sep 28 2016Odor went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Brewers on Wednesday. His first-inning blast gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead in a game they'd go on to win 8-5. This was huge for Odor, as he'd been in the midst of an awful slump recently -- just 1-for-29 over an eight-game stretch. He hadn't homered in more than two weeks, dating back to Sept. 12. Even that doesn't take much of the shine off Odor's star, though, as he's now doubled last season's homer total.
Sep 24 2016Odor is out of the lineup Saturday against the A's.The Rangers are resting most of their regulars Saturday after clinching the division Friday night. Jurickson Profar will start at second base and hit second Saturday.
Sep 12 2016Odor homered and drove in three runs in a 3-for-4 game with a walk Monday against the Astros.Odor continues to be one of the premier power hitting second basemen in the league. Only Brian Dozier (40) and Robinson Cano (33), who also homered on Monday, can boast more than Odor's 31 home runs. But Odor's game is also well rounded -- with 12 stolen bases, he's one of just four major leaguers with 30 homers and 10 steals, joining Dozier, Todd Frazier and Mookie Betts.
Sep 11 2016Odor (hamstring) is in the lineup Sunday against the Angels. He'll bat third in the order and start at second base.Odor was held out of Saturday's contest after experiencing tightness in both of his hamstrings, but the day off was all he needed to put the injury behind him. The fact that he's in the lineup at the keystone rather than DH suggests the Rangers don't feel his mobility in the field will be compromised.
Sep 10 2016Odor (hamstring) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Angels.Tightness in both hamstrings led to Odor's early exit from Friday's game and the 22-year-old will sit Saturday, but the issue is not considered serious. Jurickson Profar the nod at second base in Odor's stead.
Sep 6 2016Odor hit his 30th home run in a 3-for-4 game with two RBI in Monday's loss to Seattle. The red-hot Odor already has three home runs and nine RBI in four September games, and five of his nine hits this month have gone for extra bases. Odor's 16 home runs last season came as a surprise to many. Now that he has 30 in just 129 games this year, he looks like one of the game's premier slugging second basemen.
Sep 4 2016Odor went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI Sunday against the Astros.Odor's been red hot over his last five games, as he's gone 12-for-24 with five homers to raise his slash line to .280/.301/.517. The third-year player has seen slugging percentage increase significantly in each of his last two seasons, and at 22-years-old, he appears to have an amazing future ahead of him.
Sep 2 2016Odor went 2-for-4 with a double and two-run homer in a 10-8 victory over the Astros on Friday. That's now four home runs in the last three games. During that stretch, Odor is 8-for-14 (.571) with seven RBI and five runs scored. He is slashing .277/.300/.512 with 28 home runs, 74 RBI and 81 runs in 512 at-bats this season.
Aug 31 2016Odor followed up his walk-off homer Tuesday by going 3-for-5 with a pair of bombs and five RBI in a 14-1 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday. The Rangers infielder is 6-for-10 with three homers, seven RBI and four runs in the last two games. He hit six bombs in August, raising his season total to 27, which is third-most among second baseman in the league behind only Brian Dozier and Robinson Cano.
Aug 31 2016Odor went 3-for-5 with a walk-off, two-run homer in Tuesday's 8-7 win against the Mariners.Odor made two baserunning blunders earlier in the night, but made up for it with his game-winner off rookie Edwin Diaz. His career-best 25th homer of the season was his third in the last ten games, but doesn't hide the fact that the 22-year-old has stumbled in recent weeks. The second baseman owns a .248 batting average through 105 at-bats in August, his lowest mark in any month this season.
Aug 17 2016Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against Oakland.Jurickson Profar will move over to second, giving Odor a rare maintenance day. The Rangers have Thursday off, so Odor will likely return to the lineup Friday when Texas begins their series against Tampa Bay.
Jul 29 2016Odor went 3-for-4 with two solo shots in Friday's victory over the Royals.Odor became the third second baseman in Rangers history with 20-plus homers in a season, joining Ian Kinsler and Alfonso Soriano. His second career multi-homer game, both of which came this season, made him the leader in the team's clubhouse with 21 on the year. Over his last 162 games, Odor is slugging .500 with 32 home runs, 89 RBI and 100 runs. In other words, the 22-year-old is just flat out ridiculous at the plate.
Jul 22 2016Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo shot Friday against the Royals. The second baseman's fourth-inning homer was his 18th of the year, and the first by a left-handed hitter against starter Danny Duffy since 2011. Odor has been upping his game recently, as July has been his best month of the season up to this point. He's raised his season average nearly ten points this month, from .263 to .272 by going 21-for-72 (.292) while hitting three homers and collecting 10 RBI and 10 runs.
Jul 19 2016Odor homered as part of a 2-for-4 game with two RBI in Monday's loss to the Angels.Odor is up to 17 home runs already and ranks behind just Robinson Cano, Daniel Murphy and Ian Kinsler among major league second basemen. He needed 120 games to make it to 16 home runs last year and just 86 to surpass that mark here in 2016. While he showed decent power in the minor leagues, he never displayed anything like this, but at just 22 years old, he's still growing into his power. At this point, he's looking like he could become a perennial 20 home run slugger.
Jul 15 2016Odor will hit leadoff in Friday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Regular leadoff hitter Shin-Soo Choo is not in the lineup for Friday's game, so Odor will hit in the first spot in the order for the first time since June 16. Odor has hit the ball well in July, posting a .920 OPS through 10 games.
Jun 29 2016Odor went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Wednesday at the Yankees.Odor's 15th homer of the year gave the Rangers a six-run lead in the sixth inning of a game they'd go on to lose. He's now hit safely in each of his last seven games, and he's slashing .271/.292/.486.
Jun 21 2016Odor is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Reds, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. It appears to be just a normal day off for Odor, as he's played in 17 consecutive games following his 7-game suspension. Jurickson Profar will get the start at the keystone in his place Tuesday and hit fifth against Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani.
Jun 17 2016Odor went 1-for-4, but his solo home run was all the offense needed to defeat the Cardinals 1-0 Friday night.Odor must have spent his suspension in the weight room, because his power numbers have been on the rise since returning. Although his average and OBP are practically the same as before the layoff, his slugging percentage is up nearly 50 points from where it stood the day of the infamous brawl against the Blue Jays. In 55 at-bats since returning, Odor has hit three doubles and six home runs while notching nine RBI. He had just seven home runs in 187 at-bats before being disciplined.
Jun 16 2016Odor went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 victory over the A's.The 22-year-old has been solid since returning from his seven-game suspension, and is enjoying a strong month with the long ball. Odor now has five homers in June, and has hit safely in nine of 12 contests. His first round-tripper, a 379-foot shot in the sixth, plated Jurickson Profar and completed a Rangers' comeback from a 5-0 deficit, while his 433-foot solo blast in the eighth helped pad the Texas lead to 7-5. He's now slashing .266/.290/.481 on the season.
Jun 4 2016Odor returned to the lineup Saturday versus the Mariners, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a pair of runs scored. The hard-hitting second baseman slotted into the fifth spot in the lineup due to the emergence of Jurickson Profar as the club's leadoff hitter, and he fit in seamlessly as the Rangers hung 10 runs on their division rivals. Odor was having a strong season before his suspension, and he could be in for some extra RBI opportunities if he continues to hit further down in the order.
Jun 4 2016Odor (suspension) was reinstated and is hitting fifth Saturday against the Mariners. As expected, he's back in the lineup now that his suspension is complete. Jurickson Profar, who filled in admirably in his absence is also in the lineup as the DH Saturday, but Odor won't miss out on much, if any, playing time even if Profar lingers with the big league club a little longer. Deploy him as usual Saturday.
May 26 2016Odor is expected to get a slight reduction to his eight-game suspension and will begin serving the suspension Friday, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports. There is still no word as to exactly how long the suspension will be, but owners should be prepared to be without Odor for at least the weekend series against the Pirates. Jurickson Profar will reportedly be recalled to take Odor's place in the lineup during the suspension, making him a strong short-term play in daily leagues and full-season leagues with daily roster moves.
May 26 2016Odor had his suspension reduced from eight games to seven games Thursday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.Odor is still expected to start serving his suspension Friday, and while a one game reduction is small, it is better than nothing. Expect Jurickson Profar to be recalled to take his place in the short-term.
May 25 2016Odor is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, batting leadoff.Odor's suspension hearing was held Tuesday, but as of early Wednesday, an official decision has yet to be made. According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Thursday is the expected date for MLB to hand down its decision on Odor's suspension, so the rising star second baseman will get at least one more start before having to sit out.
May 24 2016Odor is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.Odor had an appeal hearing pertaining to his eight-game suspension Tuesday, but the league will not pass down a decision until Wednesday at the earliest. Thus, Odor will remain in the lineup Tuesday and bat leadoff against Jhoulys Chacin.
May 22 2016Odor has a Tuesday appeal hearing for his eight-game suspension, the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor could still be available Tuesday and Wednesday, as it often takes a day or two before the final ruling is announced. Given the nature of his offense, Odor is likely just hoping for a reduction of two or three games.
May 22 2016Odor is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Astros, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. There's no news on the suspension front so it appears Odor is simply sitting out Sunday's contest with the left-handed Dallas Keuchel toeing the rubber for the Astros. Drew Stubbs will lead off in his absence, with Hanser Alberto set to start at second base.
May 17 2016Odor is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's, batting leadoff and playing second base.Although Odor was given an eight-game suspension earlier Tuesday, the second baseman is still eligible to play given that he is appealing the punishment. He'll be in the lineup Tuesday, batting leadoff against Oakland's Jesse Hahn, and he figures to remain in the lineup until the appeals process reaches a conclusion.
May 17 2016Odor was given an eight-game suspension Tuesday but he will appeal, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.A suspension for Odor was imminent after he landed a punch on Toronto's Jose Bautista during Sunday's heated contest, the only question was the length of the suspension. Odor was handed down an eight-game suspension but he will appeal the penalty, meaning that he will be able to remain in the lineup until a final decision is reached. If Odor ultimately is suspended for any amount of time, Hanser Alberto or Ian Desmond could fill in at second base for the Rangers.
May 15 2016Odor was ejected from Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays in the top of the eighth inning after throwing a punch at Toronto's Jose Bautista, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The heat had been turned up after Jose Bautista was plunked by a fastball from Rangers reliever Matt Bush. Bautista proceeded to slide hard into Odor, leading to the benches clearing. Odor landed a punch on Bautista and was subsequently ejected. It wouldn't be surprising if a suspension is right around the corner, but further punishment would likely be announced in the coming days.
May 8 2016Odor went 2-for-5 with a leadoff solo homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-5 victory over the Tigers. The Rangers second baseman is in the midst of a power surge, now having homered in back-to-back games, and three times in the last five contests as well. Odor also has multi-hit games in six of the last eight contests, and has already raised his average 28 points to .292 since the calendar turned to May. He's slashing .364/.364/.697 over the first seven games of the month, and his ability to contribute across all major offensive categories makes him highly coveted in virtually any fantasy format.
May 6 2016Odor was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as the Rangers downed Detroit on Friday night. He hit a solo homer in the fifth, and then added a two-run double in the ninth to seal the deal. He's now hitting a solid .287 and has contributed five long balls to go with 19 RBI on the season.
May 2 2016Odor went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Angels. He was also caught stealing for the first time this season. Odor is now slashing .283/.327/.457 on the season with three homers, 14 RBI, 16 runs scored and four steals, and as long as he remains in the leadoff spot for the Rangers he should be able to maintain strong fantasy value.
Apr 26 2016Odor hit a solo home run, his third, in Monday's win over the Yankees. It was Odor's only hit, and he is now 1-for-8 in his two starts atop the Rangers' lineup. The power has been there thus far for Odor, who has four doubles to go with his three home runs, but his batting line is still underwhelming at .232/.272/.403. With the Rangers still struggling to find a consistent leadoff hitter amidst Delino DeShields troubles, Odor could see continued run at the top of the Texas order despite his struggles.
Apr 26 2016Odor will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Yankees.Make it two straight starts atop the order against right-handed pitching for Odor, with Delino DeShields in the nine-hole. DeShields has maintained a walk rate north of 10 percent, but he's seen a big increase in strikeouts in the early going this season (22 in 76 plate appearances). It appears this may be the new norm against right-handers, at least DeShields gets back on track. Odor has been batting eighth lately against left-handed starters.
Apr 26 2016Odor served as the leadoff hitter against right-handed Nathan Eovaldi on Monday.Delino DeShields, who had hit leadoff 16 times this season, served as the #9 hitter in Monday's contest. It remains to be seen if Odor atop the lineup against righties will remain beyond just the single game, but it would provide a nice boost for Odor if the arrangement sticks.
Apr 21 2016Odor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros. With the Rangers facing left-hander Dallas Keuchel on Thursday, Odor will take a seat in favor of righty Hanser Alberto. After a slow start to the year, Odor has begun to pick things up over the last week, slashing .333/.333/.542 with a home run and seven RBI over the last week. He does occasionally sit against lefties, however, so he may be out of the lineup Friday as well when the Rangers face Jose Quintana of the White Sox.
Apr 14 2016Odor went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI, and a run in Thursday's win over the Orioles.Odor broke the game open in the sixth inning with a two-run double to give the Rangers a lead that they would not surrender. His strong performance Thursday bumps his slash line up to just .200/.256/.375 on the year, but he has had a solid second week of the season with a pair of multi-hit games, four doubles, and five RBI since Monday.
Apr 11 2016Odor went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI Monday in Seattle.Odor's reduced workload Sunday clearly did him a lot of good, as he doubled his season RBI total while picking up multiple hits in a game for the first time in the new campaign. The 22-year-old earned a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock due to early struggles last season before heating up with the Rangers in the second half, but a few more performances like this will assure history doesn't repeat itself.
Apr 10 2016Odor is not in the lineup Sunday against the Angels, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor has started the first six games of the season at second base for Texas, but will receive what looks to be a regular day off for the afternoon contest. Hanser Alberto will man the keystone in his stead.
Apr 1 2016Odor's four home runs led Texas' hitters in Cactus League play.Odor will be looking to build upon a very successful 2015 season in which he swatted 16 homers in 120 games.
Mar 18 2016Odor (oblique) went 0-for-2 in Friday's sprining training loss to Seattle. It was his first game since March 6.Odor said Thursday that he feels 100 percent, so he should be read for Opening Day barring a setback. Odor will be looking to improve on a breakout 2015 season in which he posted a .781 OPS with 16 homers, six steals, 61 RBI and 54 runs in 120 games.
Mar 18 2016Odor (oblique) played in two separate minor league games Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a double, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. "I feel pretty good right now," Odor said. "I need a couple more at-bats but I'm pretty good."Tightness in Odor's right oblique muscle has set the 22-year-old back this spring, but Odor said Thursday that he feels 100 percent. While he is without a timetable to return to major league spring action, Odor said he expects to back in the Cactus League lineup soon. After a 2015 season in which he posted a .781 OPS with 16 homers, six steals, 61 RBI and 54 runs in 120 games, Odor is firmly inside the top 10 among second baseman options.
Mar 13 2016Odor (oblique) took soft toss Saturday.Odor had hoped to be taking batting practice off live pitching but now but remains limited. He could return to game action in a few more days.
Mar 11 2016Odor (oblique) remains day-to-day, but hopes to take batting practice Friday, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports. His oblique tightness has kept him sidelined recently, but it is not expected to be something that keeps him out when the regular season starts. If he can take batting practice Friday, there's a chance he could get into Cactus League games early next week.
Mar 9 2016Odor (oblique) remains day-to-day and is expected to return to practice Thursday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports.Odor continues to deal with some minor tightness in his oblique, but it doesn't look to be anything that will threaten his availability for more than a few days. Expect to see the second baseman back on the field later in the week.
Mar 8 2016Odor was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's spring game due to minor tightness in his right oblique, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Opening Day is still nearly four weeks away and Odor will likely just be day-to-day. Although he hasn't shown much promise on the basepaths, few second basemen offer similar potential at the plate. Odor put up identical .781 OPS marks against righties and lefties last season, so even with the Rangers boasting strong infield depth, he should be a regular in the starting lineup.
Sep 24 2015Odor went 1-for-4 with a mammoth solo homer in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Athletics.Odor's home run was a sight to be seen, as the 5'11'' infielder muscled up for a second-deck long ball against R.J. Alvarez. The power is real for Odor, as the 21-year-old's hit a career-best 15 home runs in under 400 at-bats. Home runs are difficult to come by among middle infielders, driving up Odor's draft day price next season.
Sep 17 2015Odor went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored against the Astros on Wednesday. If you prorate Odor's stats right now over 162 games, that's 22 home runs, 86 RBI and 70 runs from the second base position. This from a 21-year-old who didn't even get his bat going until June. Great things are coming from Odor; enjoy his productivity down the stretch and make sure you're the one who reaches a little for him on draft day next year.
Aug 31 2015Odor (finger) is in the lineup on Monday, batting fifth and playing second base, according to Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telgram.Odor has played once in the past week, but his presence in the lineup will help as they travel to a National League park where they can use the extra pinch hitter. Odor's hitting .280 on the season with 11 home runs and 43 RBI and will replace Hanser Alberto in the starting lineup.
Aug 31 2015Odor (finger) is expected to rejoin the starting lineup Monday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor has missed the last five games and plays the first three games this week in pitcher-friendly Petco but offers too much fantasy upside to keep him reserved for week. Deploy as usual.
Aug 30 2015Odor (finger) is out of Sunday's lineup against the Orioles.Odor continues to recover from his middle finger nail on his right hand falling off, but will miss his fifth straight contest Sunday because of the issue. The Rangers will turn to Hanser Alberto again in his place, batting ninth for the Rangers.
Aug 29 2015Odor (finger) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Orioles.Make it four straight games out of the lineup for Odor, who lost a fingernail on his right (throwing) hand while fielding a groundball Tuesday. Hanser Alberto will once again man second base and bat ninth for Texas. While Odor's status in the short term remains uncertain, X-rays on the finger were negative and he doesn't appear in immediate danger of landing on the DL with rosters set to expand Tuesday.
Aug 28 2015Odor (finger) is out of the lineup Friday against the Orioles, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor will now miss his third straight contest after losing a finger nail in Tuesday's game. He was able to play catch on the field earlier Friday, so it appears as though the second baseman is getting closer to a return and may be available off the bench. Hanser Alberto will get the start at the keystone in his stead, batting ninth.
Aug 27 2015Odor (finger) remains out of the lineup Thursday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports. The loss of a fingernail in Tuesday's game has now cost the Rangers' starting second baseman two games this week. While the finger is still a little swollen, the hope is that he will be able to return Friday or Saturday against the Orioles. Hanser Alberto will get the start at second base and hit ninth Thursday.
Aug 26 2015Odor (finger) is out of the lineup Wednesday, but hopes to return Thursday or Friday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor lost the nail on his right middle finger Tuesday, which forced him into an early exit from the game. The injury is still too painful to allow Odor to play, but there is some optimism that he'll be back for the start of Texas' series against Baltimore.
Aug 25 2015Odor lost his middle finger nail on his right hand and was forced to leave Tuesday's game, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Evan Grant reports. He suffered the injury in the sixth inning and was bleeding as he exited the field. Hanser Alberto replaced Odor and while the Rangers say the injury isn't serious, Alberto would be in line for a start or two if Odor ends up missing further time.
Aug 23 2015Odor went 2-for-4 Saturday with a solo shot, his 10th home run of the season. It's his second home run and third multi-hit performance in his last six games as Odor continues to impress with his bat, and the 21-year-old is now slashing .315/.342/.541 over the last month.
Aug 18 2015Odor went 2-for-3 with his ninth home run of the season in Tuesday's game against the Mariners.Odor needed 114 games to get to nine home runs last season but reached that mark in just 81 games this time around. He is solidifying himself as one of the best young second basemen in the game.
Aug 5 2015Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Astros, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor continues to swing the bat well, but will get the day off with a southpaw in Nick Martinez on the mound for the Astros. In his place, the Astros will turn to Adam Rosales at second base, and he'll bat eighth for the Rangers.
Jul 27 2015Odor stayed red-hot Sunday against the Angels, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. The 21-year-old has been on fire since being recalled from the minor leagues and is hitting .378 with six homers, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored over the last month. Odor has certainly hit his stride and is flashing the kind of potential that made him a highly regarded sleeper candidate heading into the season.
Jul 25 2015Odor went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored Saturday against the Angels.Odor is swinging a hot bat of late, with six extra-base hits in his last four games. Then again, this barely qualifies as a hot streak anymore, since Odor has been raking ever since being recalled from triple-A on June 15. Odor entered Saturday with a .360/.398/.631 line since that date, and only enhanced those totals with this performance. The way the 21-year-old has been playing lately, there is no better second baseman in all of fantasy.
Jul 22 2015Odor went 3-for-4 with a triple, a homer, a walk, two RBI and four runs scored Wednesday in Colorado.Odor's been on fire since returning to the Rangers after a stint in Triple-A, but particularly since the All-Star break -- he's opened the second half by going 12-for-28 (.429) with two homers, three triples and two doubles in six games. To be fair, all those games have been in triple- and homer-friendly parks -- Coors Field and Houston's Minute Maid Park. Of course, he gets to play his home games in Arlington, which is a pretty good place to hit too.
Jul 18 2015Odor went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, two runs and two RBI against the Astros on Saturday.Odor was moved to second in the lineup for the last two games, and responded by coming up just a double short of the cycle in this one after recording three hits Friday. The 21-year-old got off to a slow start in 2015, but he has been excellent since his June 15 recall from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Odor is hitting at a fantastic .378 clip since his return to the big club, and the young second baseman is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. If he sticks in the two-hole, Odor will be an excellent source of runs moving forward to go along with his strong average.
Jul 2 2015Odor (mouth) is back in the lineup Thursday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.Odor underwent a dental procedure Wednesday and was held out of the lineup. He's back in the lineup Thursday, leading off and playing second base.
Jul 1 2015Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Orioles, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor has collected hits in each of his last five contests, but will yield Wednesday's leadoff spot to Hanser Alberto. Alberto will bat in his spot atop the order, but Odor remains the primary second baseman at this point.
Jul 1 2015Odor underwent a dental procedure Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The 21-year-old was unable to eat pain-free after undergoing the procedure, so the Rangers will err on the side of caution and hold him out for at least one day. Odor is batting .391/.453/.587 since his return to the majors and has been seeing time atop the order against right-handers.
Jun 27 2015Odor went 2-for-3 Saturday with his third home run and fourth stolen base of the season. He's been on fire since being called back up to the majors, hitting .364/.421/.606 in 11 games. Odor's overall numbers are still poor due to his awful start to the season, but if he's still available in your league don't wait any longer to snap him up.
Jun 23 2015Odor hit his second home run as part of a 3-for-4 game with a walk and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to Oakland.Odor started in the leadoff spot with Shin-Soo Choo nursing back spasms and continues to shine since returning from the minor leagues. Odor is 8-for-18 with seven RBI now since returning June 15. If he can keep this up, he might even steal some opportunities against lefties from Hanser Alberto.
Jun 23 2015Odor will bat leadoff Tuesday against the A's, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. With Shin-Soo Choo out of the lineup due to back spasms, Odor will slot in atop the order against right-hander Jesse Chavez. It marks his second career start atop the order (second this season). Odor is 6-for-15 with five RBI and two steals since his return to Texas, but he sat against two of the White Sox's three lefty starters over the weekend.
Jun 21 2015Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.The White Sox will now have sent a left-handed starter to the mound for each game of the series, which is partially to blame for Odor's absence in the starting lineup in two of the last three contests. Adam Rosales will man the keystone Sunday afternoon, but look for Odor to see the majority of the reps there moving forward.
Jun 20 2015Odor is back in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.Hanser Alberto got the start at second base Friday, but Odor will be back in the fold Saturday against Carlos Rodon and the White Sox. After getting off to a rough start this season that resulted in being optioned to Triple-A, Odor has collected five hits since being recalled Monday.
Jun 19 2015Odor is out of the lineup Friday.Odor has started three of his first five games since getting recalled from Triple-A, with five hits and four RBI in those three starts. He should be owned in most 14-team leagues at the moment, and it's quite possible that he will warrant universal ownership if he starts to play every day. Hanser Alberto will get the start at second base Friday.
Jun 16 2015Odor is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, according to Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake.Odor crushed Triple-A pitching over the last five weeks, leading the Rangers to call him back up before Monday's game, in which he went 3-for-3. Although he's expected to get most of the playing time at second base, he probably won't get many at-bats against left-handed pitchers. With Brett Anderson taking the hill for the Dodgers on Tuesday, the Rangers will go with Hanser Alberto at second base.
Jun 15 2015Odor went 3-for-3 -- all singles -- and knocked in two runs in a win Monday over the Dodgers.Odor hit a brutal .144/.252/.233 in 103 plate appearances before being sent down in early May, so he needed nothing more than to set a season high with three hits. He tore the cover off the ball at Triple-A Round Rock (1.065 OPS), and the Rangers will likely give him every chance to win the job over the raw Hanser Alberto and veteran utility man Adam Rosales.
Jun 15 2015Odor has officially been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and is in the lineup Monday against the Dodgers.Odor struggled at the big league level earlier this season, but he's torn the cover off the ball at Triple-A, hitting .355/.430/.645 with five home runs and a 10:12 K:BB in 107 at-bats. Odor will take over at second base Monday, and he'll bat sixth against Los Angeles' Carlos Frias.
Jun 14 2015Odor will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.Odor was a disaster at the plate for the Rangers earlier this season, but he's made a mockery of Triple-A pitching since his demotion, posting a .355/.430/.645 slash line with five home runs, three stolen bases and a 10:12 K:BB ratio in 107 at-bats. He'll take over for Hanser Alberto as the Rangers' regular second baseman.
May 19 2015Odor has gone 7-for-22 with three home runs, eight RBI and a 5:2 BB:K over seven games at Triple-A Round Rock since getting demoted by the Rangers last week. The Rangers likely view Odor as a key piece in their future, so getting him back on track in the Pacific Coast League before bringing him back to the big leagues in a few weeks may ultimately be their plan. While he's been dropped in many redraft leagues, Odor could be worth stashing if he remains hot at Round Rock and pushes his way back to the starting job in Texas in the near future.
May 11 2015Odor was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.Odor is hitting just .144 and was replaced as the Rangers' regular second baseman over the weekend, so the Rangers decided to send him down to give him ample opportunities to play and refine his swing. Adam Rosales, who started the last three games at the keystone for the Rangers, figures to take over as the club's primary second baseman for the time being.
May 10 2015Odor will remain out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The 21-year-old didn't receive a single start in the series, as manager Jeff Banister has chosen to ride with veteran Adam Rosales as his regular second baseman for the time being. Rosales doesn't present a major obstacle to pass up on the depth chart, but Odor won't warrant regular at-bats until he shows some improvement at the plate. A three-strikeout performance in his most recent start dropped his season batting average to .144.
May 9 2015Odor is out of the lineup for the second straight game, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor will take a seat again Saturday as the Rangers go with Adam Rosales at second base. Odor is hitting just .151 on the season, and it's possible a demotion to Triple-A could be in his future.
May 8 2015Odor is out of the lineup Friday, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.Odor took batting practice with the team Friday, but there is a general feeling that he could be sent down to Triple-A in the near future, given is struggles to start the season. Adam Rosales will start at second base for the Rangers on Friday.
May 6 2015Odor is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor is slashing just .151/.263/.244, and could potentially be in line for a demotion in the near future. For the time being, the team still seems committed to giving him regular starts while he's in the big leagues, so it's likely just a regular day off as Adam Rosales will get the start at second base.
May 5 2015Odor is a candidate to be demoted, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The demotion wouldn't necessarily be immediate, as it's clear the Rangers want Odor to develop into their everyday second baseman. The plan simply hasn't worked out thus far, with the 21-year-old sporting a horrid .146/.263/.244 slash line through 82 at-bats this season. He could probably use some more work at the Triple-A level, but it also wouldn't be surprising if he gets a chance to work his way out of the slump in the majors.
May 4 2015Odor is not in the lineup Monday against the Astros, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor hasn't been able to do much at the plate this season as he's hitting just .148/.266/.247 and is coming off of an 0-for-4, three strikeout performance against the Athletics on Sunday. The team appears to be committed to keeping him in the lineup though, so this is likely just a day off as Adam Rosales will get the start at second base.
Apr 25 2015Odor is not in the lineup Saturday. He is in a major slump, hitting .132 on the season with just two hits in his last 24 at-bats. Those in deeper leagues know that it's too soon to panic with Odor, given his talent, but in shallower leagues there may be something more enticing on the waiver wire.
Apr 14 2015Odor will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Angels. While Odor hasn't gotten off to a blistering start (4-for-25), three of his four hits have gone for extra bases and Leonys Martin has really struggled (5-for-36). Manager Jeff Banister will attempt to spark his offense by moving Odor atop the order and Martin down to the No. 8 spot, but it remains to be seen if this change will be permanent.
Apr 6 2015Odor (lower leg) will be in the Opening Day lineup against the Athletics, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor suffered a bruised left shin earlier in spring training, but the issue was believed to be minor. He played in a couple spring games following the injury, so it appears all is well heading into the regular season.
Mar 29 2015Odor exited Sunday's spring training game early with a bruised left shin, and is considered day-to-day.Odor's injury appears to be minor, and it shouldn't impact his availability for Opening Day barring a setback or something more serious coming of the issue.
Feb 24 2015Odor's expected path to a full-time role in the Texas lineup this season got a final boost with the news that Jurickson Profar willl undergo season-ending surgery. It was widely assumed that Odor would begin the year as Texas' second baseman, with Profar starting the year in the minors, prior to Profar's injury and the injury just further solidifies Odor's path to playing time. Odor swatted nine homers and swiped four bags as a 20-year old last season and should be able to improve on those numbers.
Sep 24 2014Odor was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a stolen base and his ninth home run of the year Wednesday in a win over the Astros. When Odor is on, he can really fill up a stat sheet. Fortunately for the rookie, those games have become more common in the second half, as witnessed by his seven multi-hit games and .318/.375/.530 line in September.
Sep 23 2014Odor is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, according to Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake.Odor will get a day off after starting the last seven games. Guilder Rodriguez will get the start at second base in Odor's place.
Sep 22 2014Odor had only one hit Monday, but made it count, tripling home three runs in the third inning.Odor has been locked in this month, hitting .302 with eight RBI. At just 20 years old, the infielder is up to 46 RBI this season to go along with seven triples and eight home runs.
Sep 18 2014Odor went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run and an RBI Wednesday in a win over the Athletics.Odor's second double tied the game in the top of the ninth and he was later score the winning run on a J.P. Arencibia home run. The rookie has struggled at the plate most of the year, but is slashing .326/.383/.512 in 43 September at-bats.
Sep 14 2014Odor is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Braves, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worh Star-Telegram.Odor tallied three hits and three RBI over his last four starts, but he will get a day off Sunday. Luis Sardinas will fill in at second base for the Rangers.
Sep 9 2014Odor is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.Odor has started every game but once since August 22, so manager Tim Bogar decided to capitalize on Monday's team off day and give Odor a two-day break. Guilder Rodriguez will get the start at second base in Odor's place.
Sep 3 2014Odor is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Royals. With lefty Jason Vargas on the mound, Odor will give way to Luis Sardinas at the keystone. Manager Ron Washington doesn't want to disrupt what has been something of an offensive surge for Odor, who has produced six hits and two walks over his last 16 plate appearances.
Aug 27 2014Odor went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the Rangers' rout of the Mariners on Wednesday.Moving to the No. 7 spot in the order, Odor had a big contribution in the third inning, which helped to chase Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez. The 20-year-old second baseman became the youngest player to hit a grand slam since Jose Reyes did it in 2003.
Aug 22 2014Odor is out of the lineup Friday against the Royals. It's a rare day off for the Rangers' young rookie and Adam Rosales will get the start at the keystone. Odor hasn't been a great fantasy option this season, hitting .255 with five home runs and two steals in 81 games, but considering he's only 20 years old, it's still pretty impressive that he's been able to hold his own.
Aug 19 2014Odor went 2-for-5 and a run scored at the dish in Tuesday's loss to the Marlins.Odor hit his ninth double of the season in the seventh inning, and came around to score on the play when Giancarlo Stanton misplayed the ball in the outfield. The 20-year-old will take runs any way he can, as his proximity low in the lineup has afforded him few scoring opportunities since his early-May promotion from Double-A Frisco.
Aug 10 2014Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.Odor will take a five-game hitting streak with him to the bench, but has only one hit in each of the games and has only those five hits in his last 26 at-bats. Adam Rosales will start at second base and bat fifth for the Rangers on Sunday.
Aug 6 2014Odor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox.Odor will take a seat Wednesday with the left-handed Chris Sale on the mound following nine straight starts at second base. He will yield the start to Adam Rosales, who will bat sixth fof the Rangers.
Jul 27 2014Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor has started every game since the All-Star break at second base for the Rangers, so he'll receive a routine day of rest. With lefty Scott Kazmir on the mound for the As, manager Ron Washington will instead go with the right-handed Adam Rosales at the keystone. The 20-year-old Odor has started to heat up since the break, slashing .345/.387/.483 over nine second-half games.
Jul 10 2014Odor is out of the lineup Thursday against the Angels.Odor has started 13 straight games for the Rangers, but will take a seat in favor of Adam Rosales on Thursday. With lefty Hector Santiago taking the hill for the opposing Angels, manager Ron Washington likely wanted to get another right-handed bat in his lineup, as the 20-year-old Odor is batting just .195 against southpaws this season.
Jun 26 2014Odor is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.Odor will take a seat after starting four straight games and seven of the team's last eight, as Luis Sardinas mans the keystone in the finale against Detroit. The 20-year-old Odor has cooled off recently, with two hits, two runs scored and zero RBI in his last six games, but his batting line for the month of June is still sitting at a very respectable .283/.345/.434.
Jun 20 2014Odor is out of the lineup on Friday.Odor will sit in favor of Luis Sardinas on Friday. The young second baseman is hitting .302/.327/.490 in 31 games for the Rangers this season. He is likely just taking a day of rest on Friday, and should be back in the lineup on Saturday barring an unforeseen injury.
Jun 17 2014Odor tallied three hits and a run in Monday's win over the A's.Odor was called up to Texas prematurely and has had some development to do at the big league level. The rookie second baseman has been making more consistent contact over the past few weeks and has his average up to .303. Keep Odor on your radar, as he could have a significant jump in value if he were to move up in the Rangers' batting order.
Jun 15 2014Odor is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.Odor returned from a shoulder injury that sidelined him Monday to start each of the last four games, going 4-for-15 at the plate. He'll just be rested Sunday in favor of Luis Sardinas, but still looks to be on top of the depth chart at second base for the Rangers.
Jun 10 2014Odor (shoulder) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins. The 20-year-old hurt his shoulder diving back to first base Sunday, and while the injury looked fairly serious, he'll end up missing just one game as a result. Odor has drawn just two walks in 24 games with the big club, but he's batting .290 with two homers and 13 RBI and it doesn't look like he's going anywhere anytime soon.
Jun 10 2014Odor (shoulder) will throw prior to Tuesday's game and could be cleared for game action, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Texas may elect to play it safe here and keep Odor sidelined an extra day, but he should be back in the lineup by the middle of the week at the latest.
Jun 9 2014Odor's MRI on his right shoulder was returned negative, and he'll undergo batting practice Monday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Removed from Sunday's game as a result of a sprained shoulder, Odor's short-term availability is up in the air. However, how he emerges from batting practice will aid in determining his status going forward, which could result in a pinch-hit appearance Monday.
Jun 8 2014Odor left Sunday's game in the fifth inning with a right shoulder sprain.Odor's injury has him listed as day-to-day at this point, according to the report. It occurred when he dove back to second base and ended up getting picked off. Danny Sardinas came in to replace him at second base, batting ninth in his spot.
Jun 7 2014Odor is not starting Saturday against the Indians.Odor will sit in favor of Luis Sardinas on Saturday. Odor had started every game since June 3 so it looks like a routine day off. Odor has had a solid June so far, hitting .313 with a .389 OBP.
Jun 6 2014Odor was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the Rangers win over Cleveland on Friday night. He has been steady since being called up in early May and now has a pair or homers and 13 RBI to go with a .284 average. While he often hits near the bottom of the Rangers order, he has earned regular playing time and that gives him value in most fantasy formats.
Jun 1 2014Odor is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, Rangers' VP of Communications John Blake reports.Odor has started three straight games and eight of the last nine at second base, but will sit in favor of Luis Sardinas on Sunday. The 20-year-old has a .744 OPS since his early-May call-up.
May 28 2014Odor is not in the lineup Wednesday, the Rangers' official Twitter feed reports.Luis Sardinas will get the start at second base, as Odor gets the day off after starting five games in a row. Odor is swinging a pretty hot bat right now, with nine hits in his last 19 at-bats, including four extra-base knocks.
May 24 2014Odor went 4-for-5 with a double, two triples and five RBI in the Rangers' win over the Tigers on Saturday. While he continues to bat ninth in the order, Odor is heating up recently at the plate and is now hitting .278/.297/.500 through 12 games. Luis Sardinas could push him for playing time if he slumps, but given Odor's pedigree, he's likely to retain the upper hand if the keystone turns into an ongoing job battle in Texas.
May 24 2014Odor is expected to get the majority of playing time at second base following the injury setback to Jurickson Profar despite the activation of Donnie Murphy from the DL, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Texas is likely looking back to last season, where Profar received very little playing time in a reserve role, and not wanting to make the same mistake twice. Odor figures to be a lineup regular for as long as he remains in the majors.
May 22 2014Odor is not in the lineup Thursday for the second straight day, according to Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake. The Rangers said Wednesday that Odor is healthy, but his absence from the lineup for the second time in two days indicates he may still be dealing with the sore wrist that prevented him from playing Sunday. Odor could return to the lineup as soon as Friday if he is truly healthy, but Luis Sardinas will receive another start at second base Thursday.
May 21 2014Odor is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, according to Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake.Odor is feeling fine after missing Sunday's game with a sore wrist, but manager Ron Washington still decided to give him a day off Wednesday. Luis Sardinas will get the start at second base in Odor's place.
May 20 2014Odor (wrist) is back in the starting lineup Tuesday. As per usual, Odor is batting ninth and manning the keystone for the Rangers on Tuesday night after a day off Sunday due to right wrist soreness.
May 18 2014Odor was scratched from Sunday's lineup with right wrist soreness, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor must have experienced the issue with his wrist at some point during batting practice, as he was listed in manager Ron Washington's initial lineup. The young second baseman should be viewed as day-to-day at this time, while Luis Sardinas fills in at second base Sunday in his stead.
May 11 2014Odor recorded his second career hit on Saturday in a pinch hit role.Saturday's hit was Odor's second in as many days after getting his first career hit on Friday. His most notable contribution thus far, however, was a controversial error that nearly cost Yu Darvish a perfect game. Odor hasn't had much of an opportunity to make an impact since being called up on Thursday, but will likely see a lot more in the coming days with Donnie Murphy on the DL.
May 8 2014Odor will make his major league debut Thursday against the Rockies. He'll play second base and bat eighth in the Texas lineup.Following Thursday's dismissal of Josh Wilson from the 40-man roster and placement of Donnie Murphy on the 15-day DL, the Rangers will embrace a youth movement at second base, with 20-year-olds Odor and Luis Sardinas getting the call to the big leagues. Both players are well-regarded prospects, but Odor probably brings more to the table in terms of offensive potential, and seems the better bet of the two infielders to see the bulk of the duty at second base. Odor was hitting .279 with six homers and six steals at Double-A Frisco prior to his promotion Thursday.
May 8 2014Odor has been recalled from Double-A Frisco, Rangers' VP of Communications John Blake reports.Odor has slashed .279/.314/.450 with six home runs over 32 games at the Double-A level this season, and the Rangers will hope his arrival will help alleviate some of their second base woes. Josh Wilson was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, and with Donnie Murphy currently day-to-day with a neck strain, Odor should see an opportunity to earn playing time out of the gates. Manager Ron Washington should have no problem finding him at-bats, at least until the return of Jurickson Profar (shoulder). The 20-year-old Odor has a high ceiling, and is worth an add in most deeper formats.
Mar 24 2014Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told reporters Monday that Odor will remain in the minors for now, ESPN Dallas reports. The lack of viable alternatives behind Jurickson Profar (shoulder, out 10-to-12 weeks) has left many to wonder if the Rangers might promote their highly touted second-base prospect, but Odor is only 20 years old and has 30 games played at the Double-A level at this point. More likely, Josh Wilson, Kensuke Tanaka and Adam Rosales will be given an opportunity for an expanded role, especially if the Rangers are unable to find a more suitable short-term option to man the keystone via trade or waivers. Odor could see the big leagues in 2014, but he's a speculative reserve pick target for deeper one-year formats at the present time.
Feb 3 2014Odor was added to the Rangers' major league spring training roster on Monday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.Odor is considered one of the Rangers' top prospects, and will get a chance to flash his potential in a big league camp. The 20-year-old had an impressive .839 OPS in the minors last season, adding 32 stolen bases over 130 games. Due to the Rangers' current infield depth, Odor will likely start the season again in the minors, but they won't be able to keep him there long if he continues to post these types of numbers.
