May 21 2018Singleton was released by the Astros on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Singleton was dealt a 100-game suspension in January after testing positive for an illegal drug. He'll look to catch on elsewhere after Houston elected to part ways Monday. Singleton slashed .205/.376/.397 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI for Double-A Corpus Christi in 2017.
Jan 23 2018Singleton has received a 100-game suspension without pay after failing a third positive test for a drug of abuse, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. It's been a tough couple of years for the once-lauded prospect. After being ousted from the Astros' 40-man roster prior to the 2017 season, Singleton spent the entire year with Double-A Corpus Christi, where he hit .205/.376/.397 in 117 games with the Hooks. The 26-year-old has appeared in just 114 games for the Astros since inking an extension with the team in 2014. Singleton will be free to sign elsewhere, and hopefully get his career back on track, once his contract with Houston expires after the 2018 season.
Apr 4 2017Singleton was assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi to open the regular season, the Houston Chronicle's Jake Kaplan reports.Singleton has already been removed from the Astros' 40-man roster, but he will still make $2 million this season in the penultimate year of the extension he signed in 2014. With A.J. Reed set to be the everyday first baseman at Triple-A, Singleton will need to go down to Double-A, a level he has not played at since 2013, in order to get everyday at-bats. It's unclear how Singleton's career would have been different if he never signed that extension, but it has worked as something of a gift and a curse, as he will need to wait two years to get a fresh start in a different organization unless the Astros are willing to buy him out.
Mar 19 2017Singleton has been reassigned to minor league camp, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.Singleton was 4-for-21 at the plate during Grapefruit League play, scoring three runs and driving in two during what will end up being a short spring. The next step for the 25-year-old, who was removed from the team's 40-man roster in April, remains to be seen. Singleton should still get some run at Triple-A Fresno, but after hitting just .202 and striking out at a 24.8 percent clip last year, he'll need to quickly turn things around in order to even keep his job there.
Feb 18 2017Singleton, who was removed from the Astros' 40-man roster during the offseason, may find playing time at Triple-A Fresno difficult to come by, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.Singleton dropped off the map last season, hitting just .202 at Fresno and never reaching the majors. A former top prospect, the 25-year-old first baseman will be challenged by younger prospects A.J. Reed and Tyler White, both of whom are expected to start the season with the Grizzlies.
Nov 22 2016Singleton cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. As expected, the former top prospect will remain an Astro farmhand after no teams were interested in picking up his bat that hasn't produced a major league batting average above .200. Singleton's power is intriguing, but he'll be nothing more than an organizational depth piece until he can make more contact.
Mar 28 2016Singleton was optioned to minor league camp Monday.Singleton struggled mightily this spring, hitting just .151 with 17 strikeouts and only three walks over 56 Grapefruit League plate appearances. He'll open 2016 with Triple-A Fresno, where he hit .254/.359/.505 with 22 home runs and 83 RBI over 102 games last year. Singleton's demotion means Tyler White has likely won the Astros' first base competition.
Mar 21 2016Singleton is running out of time to earn the Astros' starting first base job, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chroncile reports.Singleton is just 6-for-40 (.150) this spring with 15 strikeouts and only three walks. Tyler White (.344) and A.J. Reed (.258) have out-performed the 24-year-old, but Singleton may still win the job anyway due to his $10 million guaranteed contract. With a little over two weeks remaining in spring training, this position battle figure to come down to the wire.
Mar 17 2016Singleton went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a solo home run Wednesday during the Astros' 7-3 Grapefruit League loss to the Tigers."It's nice to see him have a good day," manager A.J. Hinch said of Singleton, who raised his spring batting average from .104 to .152 with the performance. "He's worked pretty hard, and he hasn't had a day like this yet. Obviously he has it in him. To see him have a day like today is a nice fresh start for him for the rest of camp." The 24-year-old arrived in camp as the favorite to win the Astros' starting first base job, but he'll have to beat out A.J. Reed, Tyler White and Matt Duffy for the role.
Mar 15 2016Singleton went 1-for-4 with a stolen base as the DH during Monday's 1-1 Grapefruit League tie against Washington. The 24-year-old did not strike out during the game, but he's fanned 11 times over 27 Grapefruit League at-bats with only one walk to his credit. Singleton's inability to make consistent contact will hurt his chances of winning the Astros' starting first base job, as his main competition -- A.J. Reed (.318), Tyler White (.370) and Matt Duffy (three home runs) -- are off to blistering starts this spring.
Mar 7 2016Singleton went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI during Sunday's Grapefruit League win over Toronto.Prior to Sunday's standout performance, Singleton had gone hitless over six at-bats with four strikeouts. Astros manager A.J. Hinch indicated last week that the 24-year-old has the "first look and the most experience" in the team's first base competition, but A.J. Reed (three hits Sunday) and Tyler White (home run Sunday) are right there with him in one of the most exciting position battles of the spring thus far.
Mar 2 2016Astros manager A.J. Hinch indicated Singleton has the "first look and the most experience" in the team's first base competition this spring, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.Singleton is competing with the highly-regarded A.J. Reed and lesser-known Tyler White for the first base job this spring, but Hinch's comments Wednesday suggest the 24-year-old is the early favorite for the role. A lot can happen during camp, however, and Singelton has struggled mightily over 420 big-league plate appearances thus far. It probably wouldn't take much for Reed or White to overtake him in the competition.
Feb 23 2016Singleton gained 25 pounds in the offseason, 17 of which are muscle, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 24-year-old enters camp weighing 255 pounds as he prepares for a what A.J. Hinch describes as a "grueling" competition at first base with A.J. Reed, Tyler White, Preston Tucker, Matt Duffy and veterans Marwin Gonzalez and Luis Valbuena. "I haven't spent a ton of time with him on the baseball side of things," Hinch said of Singelton, "but showing up in camp, he's obviously put some time in the gym. He's very aware of what his situation is. Knowing the first base job is up for grabs - I'm sure he'll be as focused as needed."
Sep 23 2015Singleton was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday.Singleton is having a solid year in Triple-A Fresno, hitting .254 with 22 home runs and 83 RBI, but has been unable to carry that success over to the majors. In 16 games with the Astros, he's hitting .205 with one home run and six RBI.
Jul 31 2015The Astros optioned Singleton to Triple-A Fresno on Friday, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.Singleton appeared in just two games from July 23 through July 30, so the Astros decided he would be the guy to give up his spot on the big league roster for the recently-acquired Carlos Gomez. Singleton will be back with the Astros in September, if not before.
Jul 31 2015Singleton will be optioned to the minors Friday, the Houston Chronicle reports. With Carlos Gomez arriving in Houston on Friday, the team will demote Singleton to clear room on the 25-man roster. Singleton has seen time in 16 games for the Astros this season, notching nine hits in 44 at-bats (.205).
Jun 29 2015Singleton will bat sixth as the designated hitter Monday against the Royals.Singleton struggled mightily in his first start of the season, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, but was hitting extremely well in the minors, boasting a .280/.387/.553 line with 17 home runs and 66 RBI for Triple-A Fresno. He replaces Evan Gattis in the lineup at designated hitter.
Jun 28 2015Singleton got the start at DH on Saturday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. That's not exactly the impression Singleton wanted to make after being called up. He had massive trouble making contact in the majors last season as well, and while both Chris Carter and Evan Gattis are vulnerable to losing playing time, Singleton isn't going to carve out a regular role until he starts hitting.
Jun 27 2015Singleton is in the lineup Saturday against New York, batting seventh as the DH.Singleton was recalled Friday and will get his first major league at-bats of the season Saturday. He's yet another bat with pop in Houston's lineup, as evidenced by his 17 home runs at Triple-A Fresno this season. He'll face righty Masahiro Tanaka on Saturday for the first time in his career.
Jun 26 2015Singleton was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Friday.Singleton owns a .280/.387/.553 slash line for Fresno, but he already proved last season that he can handle Triple-A pitching. He'll now get a second chance in the majors, after struggling to a .168/.285/.335 slash line over 362 plate appearances with the Astros last season. It's not clear how much playing time Singleton will get, as the Astros already have Chris Carter at first base and Evan Gattis as the regular DH. According to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Singleton will likely cut into both of those players' at-bats, but Luhnow also noted that manager A.J. Hinch will be free to decide how the young slugger is used.
May 19 2015Singleton was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week after hitting .357 (10-for-28) with five home runs, 23 RBI and two stolen bases.Backed by a Fresno-record 10 RBI performance on Wednesday and three grand slams in a five-game span, Singleton had what might have been the most impressive week by a Triple-A slugger this season. Through 37 games, he's hitting .263/.382/.606 with 12 home runs and he leads all Minor Leaguers with 40 RBI.
May 13 2015Singleton went 4-for-6 with two home runs and 10 RBI in a game with Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday. The numbers clearly speak for themselves, and the 10 RBI gives Singleton the Pacific Coast League lead in runs batted in for the time being. Singleton also has 11 home runs and seven doubles on the season, to go along with 22 walks in 31 games. The Astros may decide to bring him up at some point this season, but they appear content to give Chris Carter and Evan Gattis regular at-bats for the time being.
Apr 1 2015Singleton was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Singleton's spring average was over .300 at one point, but he struggled mightily over recent Grapefruit League play, going 1-for-21 with nine strikeouts before his eventual demotion. The 23-year-old even admitted the move was necessary after hitting .200/.273/.320 with six doubles, four RBI and 18:5 K:BB over 50 Grapefruit League at-bats. Chris Carter figures to step in as the Astros' primary first baseman to open 2015.
Mar 27 2015Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said it's "still to be determined" whether Singleton makes the Opening Day roster out of spring training, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Singleton got close to 10 at-bats on the minor league fields on Thursday, as he is working on specific things with his swing. The 23-year-old leads Houston with six doubles this spring, but he's hitting .244 with 14 strikeouts in 41-at bats. If Singleton doesn't break camp with the team, Chris Carter would step in as the regular first baseman with Evan Gattis and Matt Dominguez as secondary options for the position.
Mar 20 2015Singleton is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with six doubles in 11 spring appearances.Singleton got off to a slow start this spring, but he has turned things around at the plate and leads Houston with six doubles. The 23-year-old's contact issues remain (nine strikeouts this spring), but he appears to be in line to open 2015 as the Astros' starting first baseman.
Feb 26 2015Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow expressed confidence that Singleton will "do the things he needs to do to make this club," Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Singleton failed to make an impression during his rookie season with the Astros last year, hitting a mere .168/.285/.335 with 13 home runs in 95 games. While he's currently the favorite to open 2015 as the Astros' starting first baseman, don't be surprised if he ends up back in the minors if his struggles carry over from 2014.
Sep 26 2014Singleton is not expected to start any of the Astros' final three games, the Houston Chronicle reports.Singleton's last hit came all the way back on Sept. 9, as he's 0-for-his-last-23 with 18 strikeouts over that span. The 23-year-old admitted that it's been a "very difficult" way to his end his rookie campaign, and he'll likely be relegated to pinch-hit duty for the entire Mets series, unless Chris Carter's nagging lower-back injury presents issues. Singleton has hit just .168/.287/.336 with 13 homers and 133 strikeouts in 92 games with the big club, after inking a long-term extension with the team in early June.
Sep 24 2014Singleton is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers.Singleton has struggled mightily this season, slashing just .168/.287/.336. He has just three at-bats over the team's last five games, as Chris Carter will fill in at first on Wednesday.
Sep 22 2014Singleton is not in the lineup Monday. He has just one at-bat over the last three games, and his batting average has dipped to a putrid .169 on the season. Chris Carter will get the start at first base.
Sep 20 2014Singleton is out of the Astros' lineup again Saturday.Singleton will ride the pine for a second straight day, following a 4-for-37 start to September. The 23-year-old has struggled to adjust to major league pitching (.169 average), but it seems likely he'll open 2015 in an everyday role, after inking a long-term extension with the club in June.
Sep 19 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Friday against the Mariners.Singleton will get a day off following an 0-for-4 night at the plate Tuesday, wearing the golden sombrero with four strikeouts. He has been floundering at the plate recently, and is currently riding a 0-for-19 skid at the plate with 15 strikeouts over his past seven games. Chris Carter gets the start at first base while Jose Altuve takes the designated hitter spot for Friday's contest.
Sep 14 2014Singleton is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.Singleton will get a day off after stating the last seven games for the Astros. Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base Sunday in Singleton's place.
Sep 6 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Saturday. He hit his 13th home run of the season Friday, but 13 of his 49 hits have gone for homers, and he really shows no signs of getting his average over .200 (currently at .179) this season. Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base.
Aug 30 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rangers.Singleton will take a seat with a five-game hitless streak in hand, though he did draw five walks during that span. He'll be relieved at first base, at least for a day, by Jesus Guzman.
Aug 27 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Wednesday against the A's.With lefty Drew Pomeranz on the hill for Oakland, Singleton will head to the bench for the second time in four games, opening the door for Jesus Guzman to start at first base. Singleton is batting just .186/.296/.372 with the big club this season, and while his struggles have mostly come against right-handed pitching (.160/.280/.326), manager Bo Porter may be inclined to further limit Singleton's exposure to lefties over the remainder of the season.
Aug 23 2014Singleton is not in Saturday's lineup, the Houston Chronicle's Jose de Jesus Ortiz reports. The rookie first baseman has been playing everyday despite still sporting a sub-.200 batting average. While he still offers plenty of upside over the rest of the season for owners looking for some help in home runs, he's going to be a drain on batting average in roto leagues. Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base.
Aug 18 2014Singleton hit his 11th homer of the season, drew two walks and scored twice in the Astros' 8-1 win over the Red Sox on Sunday.Despite 11 home runs in 66 games with the Astros, Singleton has posted an uninspiring .185/.288/.371 slash line in his rookie season.
Aug 4 2014Singleton went 5-for-9 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored over the weekend against the Blue Jays.Perhaps even more impressive was he didn't strike out in the series after fanning at least once in every game he played during the month of July. Through 53 games with the Astros, Singleton is hitting .195/.282/.405 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI and a 73:22 K:BB over 185 at-bats.
Aug 1 2014Singleton hit his ninth home run of the season in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.Singleton's home run was his third in his last five games, but he hit a mere .153/.250/.365 in July and struck out at least once in every game he played during the month.
Aug 1 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays.Singleton had started nine games in nine days for the Astros coming into Friday, with only four hits in those games, but three of them going for home runs. He will take a seat in favor of Jesus Guzman, who will bat fifth for the Astros.
Jul 31 2014Singleton clubbed a two-run homer - his eighth this season - during Wednesday's 8-1 win over the A's. He also drew a walk and scored twice in the game.Singleton isn't making much contact (59 percent) in his rookie season with the Astros, but he's proven he can hit it far when he does connect. His .181 ISO is one of the few positive marks on a disappointing season statistically thus far.
Jul 28 2014Singleton hit a solo home run and walked twice in Sunday's loss to Miami.Singleton's seventh home run of the season off Marlins closer Steve Cishek broke an 0-for-11 skid at the plate. The 22-year-old first baseman is hitting a disappointing .178/.266/.350 in 46 games with the Astros thus far.
Jul 25 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Friday.Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base for the slumping rookie. Singleton's batting average dipped below .180 after Thursday's 0-for-4 performance.
Jul 22 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Tuesday against the A's.It's been a while since Singleton got a day off, and with his batting average sitting at .182, the Astros are more than justified to give him a day on the bench. However, he is a big part of the team's future, and should remain the regular first basemen even if he continues to struggle this season.
Jul 20 2014Singleton was a late addition to Sunday's lineup vs. the White Sox.Originally scheduled to receive the day off Sunday, manager Bo Porter decided to swap Singleton into the lineup in favor of Jesus Guzman. Singleton, who is sitting on a .182 batting average with 59 strikeouts in 143 at-bats since earning the call to the majors, will need to get things going offensively or risk a demotion back to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Jul 20 2014Singleton is not in the lineup Sunday vs. the White Sox.While Singleton isn't whiffing at a high rate over his last couple of games, the four-day All-Star break didn't seem to resolve his collective offensive woes. He's gone a meager 1-for-7 over the first two games of the series with Chicago and will give way to Jesus Guzman at first base Sunday.
Jul 8 2014Singleton went 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI double and three-run homer during Monday's 12-7 win over the Rangers. With his three-hit night Monday, Singleton broke a 6-for-59 slump, during which he struck out 28 times. Through 33 games with the Astros, the 22-year-old first baseman is hitting .188/.284/.385 with five doubles, six home runs and 20 RBI in 117 at-bats.
Jul 7 2014Singleton is hitting .102 with 28 strikeouts in 59 at-bats over his last 17 games with the Astros.Singleton, who went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Sunday's loss to the Angels, has struck out in 35.7 percent of his plate appearances for the Astros thus far. The 22-year-old rookie has a respectable 10.9 percent walk rate, but he needs to make better contact (59 percent contact rate) as he continues to adjust to big league pitching.
Jun 22 2014Singleton is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rays. With the Rays bringing left-hander Erik Bedard to the hill Sunday, Singleton will be on the bench, a move that should help preserve his sinking batting average. Since homering in back-to-back games June 12 and 13, Singleton has gone 2-for-20 with 10 strikeouts, dropping his season line to .203/.288/.422.
Jun 15 2014Singleton is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.Singleton has started every game for the Astros since being promoted to the majors June 3, so he'll just be getting Sunday off for maintenance purposes. He's been as good as advertised with four hours and 10 RBI in his 12 games, but his mounting strikeout totals could make him a bit of a risk in the batting average department.
Jun 13 2014Singleton went 1-for-3 with a walk, solo home run and two RBI on Thursday, as the Astros beat the Diamondbacks 5-4.Singleton's home run in the third inning off Wade Miley was his third of the season. The left-handed slugger is batting .364 with two home runs in 11 at-bats off southpaws this season.
Jun 11 2014Singleton recorded the first three-hit game of his career on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.Singleton doubled among his three hits and scored the Astros' lone run of the game, but was also caught stealing on the basepaths. The 22-year-old slugger raised his batting average to .265 with the three-hit performance.
Jun 8 2014Singleton is batting cleanup in the Astros order on Sunday and playing first base.Singleton has mainly batted sixth in the order for the Astros, but will get a crack at the cleanup spot despite batting just .158 with the big league club. The main reason for the change is the absence of Jason Castro from the order on Sunday, so Singleton will likely move back down when Castro returns to the lineup.
Jun 8 2014Singleton went 2-for-6 with a grand slam and two runs scored in Sunday's 14-5 thrashing of the Twins.Singleton, who hit cleanup in the game with Jason Castro out of the lineup, smashed his first-career grand slam off Twins' reliever Glen Perkins. Through six games with the Astros, the 22-year-old first baseman is hitting .200/.231/.480 with a double, two home runs, six RBI and a stolen base.
Jun 7 2014Singleton is starting at first base and batting sixth Saturday against the Twins, the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich reports.Singleton has gotten off to a slow start in his major league debut, hitting only .133 and striking out seven times in 15 at-bats. The slow start is not a major concern, The Astros were patient with George Springer, who also struggled initially after being called up, so it is way too early to panic on Singleton.
Jun 4 2014Singleton drew a bases-loaded walk and hit a solo home run in his MLB debut on Tuesday, as the Astros beat the Angels 7-2.Singleton's first major league hit came via the long ball, as he smashed a 412-foot blast to right center field in the eighth inning off Angels' reliever Matt Shoemaker. It was his only hit of the game in three at-bats. The 22-year-old first baseman also struck out twice and committed two fielding errors, but his power display and patience during an at-bat against Angels' lefty C.J. Wilson to bring home a run on a bases-loaded walk certainly outweighed any negatives from Tuesday's performance.
Jun 3 2014Singleton will bat sixth in his big league debut Tuesday, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports. The Astros are facing Angels lefty C.J. Wilson on Tuesday night, so it will be interesting to see if Singleton moves up in the order against right-handed starters.
Jun 2 2014Singleton's five-year contract with three option years was made official Monday night. He's been added to the 25-man roster and will be in uniform Tuesday.Singleton is take over regular duties at first base right away for the Astros, after mashing 14 homers at Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 22-year-old's agreement to the long-term contract probably sped up his arrival to the big leagues, and should keep him affordable for the Astros as he hits his prime. Marc Krauss was sent down to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.
Jun 2 2014Singleton has been informed that he'll be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday's game against the Angels, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.Singleton has the potential to provide the Astros with an immediate power boost, as he's racked up 14 home runs over 54 games this year in the minors, to go along with a .267/.397/.544 slash line. It's currently unclear how he'll fit into the Astros' lineup on a daily basis, but it's unlikely that the 22-year-old is getting the call to warm the bench. Look for him to see time at first base, potentially putting the reps of Chris Carter, Marc Krauss and Jesus Guzman in danger. As a top Astros' prospect heading into the year, Singleton is definitely worth a look on the waiver wire for owners in need of power. He's also shown strong plate discipline for a young player, owning a 52:42 K:BB ratio on the year. Additionally, Singleton has reportedly signed a long-term contract extension with the Astros, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. The deal can last up to eight years and is worth $10 million guaranteed, a contract that is truly unprecedented for a player with no major league service time.
Apr 14 2014Singleton was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week after hitting .325 with four home runs and 15 RBI, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. After struggling to make contact at the plate to kick off his 2014 campaign, Singleton has recorded three straight multi-hit performances and has homered in three of his past four games. Since the Astros aren't getting much production from their first base platoon of Jesus Guzman and Marc Krauss, Singleton could force a promotion to Houston sooner rather than later if he continues to swing a hot bat.
Mar 20 2014Singleton was reassigned to Astros' minor league camp on Thursday.Singleton had been competing for the Astros' starting first base job, but he'll likely report back to Triple-A Oklahoma City after hitting .154 this spring with a home run, four RBI and a 9:9 BB:K ratio over 14 appearances. The 22-year-old will likely make his major league debut at some point in 2014.
Mar 11 2014Singleton is hitless through 15 spring at-bats thus far. It's a rough start for the 22-year-old, but neither Jesus Guzman (.133) or Japhet Amadaor (four at-bats) have done much to stand out in the Astros' first base competition. Houston could give the job to Marc Krauss (.529), but he only logged two appearances at first base for the team last season. On the bright side, Singleton has exhibited a fair amount of patience at the plate this spring, with six walks compared to five strikeouts.
Feb 19 2014Singelton is one of the few position players that has yet to report to Astros' camp, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.Singleton still has through tonight to report to spring training, so consider this a non-issue. Manager Bo Porter expects the 22-year-old first baseman to be at Houston's first full squad workout on Thursday.
Oct 2 2013Singleton was added to the Astros' 40-man roster Wednesday. After serving a 50-game suspension for marijuana use, Singleton made his season debut at Low-A Quad Cities in late May and ended up progressing to Triple-A Oklahoma City in less than a month. There, Singleton hit .220/.340/.347 in 73 games, and while it seems likely that he'll need more seasoning at Oklahoma City before the Astros bring him up, this move indicates he'll be in the majors at some point in 2014.
Jun 12 2013Singleton, 21, is 7-for-25 (.280) with five RBI through seven games with Double-A Corpus Christi.Working his way back from a 50-game suspension, Singleton is likely headed to Triple-A shortly.
May 28 2013Singleton is not a lock to get called up this year, according to the team's official site.Astros' GM Jeff Luhnow told reporters that ultimately Singleton will make it to the majors, but first he has to demonstrate that he can handle the Triple-A environment and pitching before he is called for Houston. The plan is for Singleton to spend a few days with Quad Cities and a few days at Double-A Corpus Christi before eventually winding up with Triple-A Oklahoma City. From there, his path will be up to him.
